President Emmerson Mnangagwa has confirmed an investigation that a hand grenade was used in the White City Stadium rally blast that killed two people last week.

His statement confirmed what an analyst picked up LIVE on ZimEye.com within the hour of the incident last Saturday.

Mnangagwa revealed this at a Press conference at State House in Tanzania after holding talks with host President Dr John Magufuli.

Mnangagwa’s confession however comes at a time when his security was criticised and a former police intelligence officer says the details are not adding up… ” I have worked for the security team around Mugabe when I was at PPU , then CID. For those who do not know, the teams work like this. A week before the rally we are deployed. The PISI section of the police station which polices area where there is a rally gathers information. The CID also deploy. The army also deploys. The CIO also deploy. So there are four groups here…” (click to read more).

Notwithstanding, Mnangagwa said, “You might be aware about the events that took place Saturday when a hand grenade was thrown at me. But since you see me here, it means I am now fine. That was a minor incident, we are going to proceed with elections. We have opened up democratic space and we now have 133 political parties, but (for) President, we are better (than) Tanzania, we are 23 (candidates); here (in Tanzania), you had 42 candidates.”
