Pre-diabetes can be reversed if detected early.

“Sitting at the edge of the table in her Doctor’s office, she could not believe her ears. How could she be Pre-Diabetic? She was only 30 years old, had no history of this disease in her family, ate relatively healthily and her body was not what you could classify as being, ‘obese.’ She was confused, filled with a deep sense of hopelessness and at the same time, worried about how she would be able to start a new diet plan, living a different lifestyle and manage this disease that she knew so little about.”

Prediabetes, if undiagnosed or untreated, can develop into type 2 diabetes; which whilst treatable is currently not fully reversible. Prediabetes is a critical stage in the development of diabetes, at this point lifestyle choices can turn it around. Early, decisive action can slow down or even halt the development of type 2 diabetes.

From personal experience, with a UK based client, one can successfully reduce their blood sugar levels by simply eating right and changing their lifestyle. Please note, this was at the ‘Pre Diabetic stage’, which simple means – before diabetes or fasting plasma glucose: 6.0 mmol/L to 6.9 mmol/L or HbA1c: 42 to 47 mmol/mol (6.0 to 6.4%).

Prediabetes can be due to: Overweight, abdominal fat, chronic stress and poor eating habits.

Signs to look out for:
– Extreme thirst or hunger
– Feeling hungry even after a meal
– Frequent or increased urination
– Feeling more tired than usual

If you are experiencing any of these signs, visit a nearby pharmacy, doctor or clinic and get a fasting plasma glucose test or an HbA1c test.
