By Own Correspondent| The MDC Alliance is calling on citizens to maintain peace as the Alliance’s court application is set down tomorrow (Wednesday, 22 August 2018).
The party said it was aware of the merchants of violence planning on causing chaos and urged citizens to follow proceedings peacefully and exercise maximum restraint as the court processes occur.
“Meanwhile, preparations for inauguration are at an advanced stage with the Organising Committee leading the process.”
Below is the full statement by the MDC Alliance’s National Organising Secretary Amos Chibaya.
The MDC Alliance court application will be set down this Wednesday at the Constitutional Court in Harare.
Thousands are expected to turn up at the Constitutional Court to follow these proceedings. The MDC Organising Committee sat today and deliberated on this and many other issues.
The Committee noted that the interest generated by the current constitutional court challenge is epic and the Committee urges Zimbabweans to follow proceedings peacefully.
No regalia is allowed at the courts, and our peace loving citizens are urged to exercise restraint and to maintain order as they follow court proceedings.
We are reliably informed that the generators of chaos intend to disturb the expected peaceful and logical flow of the court proceedings but we urge the people to exercise extreme restraint in the face of provocation.
No amount of intimidation, threats of violence or abuse shall stop this generation from claiming whats rightfully theirs.
The people of Zimbabwe overwhelmingly voted for change that delivers on 30 July 2018 as represented by the young, focused, clean and visionary leadership of the people’s President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
It is because of this, that the outgoing Zanu PF government is running scared. But Zimbabweans know that their dreams and aspirations can only be met under the able leadership of President Chamisa and his MDC Alliance partners.
Democracy is on trial in this case.
The hope of a new, democratic Zimbabwe versus despotism, unconstitutionalism and illegitimacy is on trial at the Constitutional Court. It is in that regard that thousands will throng the courts to stand in solidarity with democracy, hope for a new, developed state. Hope for transformation, opportunity and prosperity. Hope for a new and great Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, preparations for the inauguration are now at an advanced stage with the Organising Committee leading the processes.
According to the Electoral act, inauguration takes place 48hrs after a court decision has been made so, given the timeframes, the committee is ceased with the issue.
