A senior Zanu PF official has been arrested for kidnapping an opposition activist.

Zanu-PF Senator for Seke, Tabeth Murwira, Christopher Mujeyi (51), Cater Matengambiri (59), Kalisto Pemiwa (72) and Lawrence Guwa (65) appeared before Chitungwiza Resident Magistrate Mrs Yeukai
Chigodora jointly charged with kidnapping and destroying the opposition activist’ s property.

Murwira and her fellow party members pleaded not guilty.
Murwira’s vehicle was allegedly used in committing the offence.

On December 13 last year
Phillip Mashongahande (50) was sleeping in his shop at Cornerstone, Beatrice at night when the suspects arrived. They knocked at his door and assaulted him when he opened it. They allegedly handcuffed Mashongahande and searched his shop. One of the suspects allegedly
tried to set the shop on fire while
Mashongahande was inside.

They allegedly left Mashongahande handcuffed in the shop and he was only rescued the following day by
Constable Tinashe Katsuwa. Trial will continue on September 6.
