The Outgoing British Ambassador to Zimbabwe has dismissed claims that she was working hand in hand with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF.

Ambassador Catriona Laing who bid farewell Mnangagwa at State
House on Wednesday denied she had a hand to hand working relationship with the Government of Zimbabwe.

“I find it laughable. I have heard these
sad rumours. Of course, I am not
running this government. I am a
diplomat representing my country. The government of Zimbabwe is running this government.

I have a relationship with them as the representative of Her Majesty’s government; a constructive
relationship based on mutual
understanding but, I am not running
this government.

We built a relationship based on
professionalism and trust with
the government which is what we need on both sides to listen to each other. I have a good cordial relationship with him and I do not have any problems at that level,” said Laing.

The opposition and some civic society organisations have in the past accused Laing of NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKINGbias towards
Mnangagwa ahead of the July 30 elections.
