By ZEC Commisioner Qhubani Moyo|Having spent lots study in elections in Africa & beyond & having participated in electoral processes including but not limited to South Africa and India my conclusion that ZEC management of elections has greatly improved over years and it is not far from meeting regional standards.

Of course some work needs to be done into the future for instance on results transmission. What many people don’t know is that ZEC announces results at polling stations soon after closing and counting is concluded.

In most cases within 5hours most polling stations will have declared their results & posted them outside. It is very easy for political parties with a strong presence of polling agents to know their performance trend by morning after election day.

What probably we can learn from SA is to ensure that those results that are posted outside polling stations be posted into a leaderboard where those outside those polling stations can follow.

Otherwise on ZEC management of elections is top notch. Ignorance of our processes is the biggest problems of perception. It’s very unfortunate that even some senior leaders of political parties also don’t know our own electoral processes and they have become sources of misinformation!!

But of course there is the historical baggage of previous Commissions which we should not be painted with!!!
