Farai Dziva|In another desperate move, government has gazetted an instrument that bars individuals and companies from buying maize from farmers.

The government has gazetted Statutory Instrument 145 of 2019 which imposes strict controls on the selling and transportation of Maize.

Among other things, the SI makes it illegal for individuals and comapanies to buy maize directly from farmers as they must go through the Grain Marketing Board.

The move is an attempt to revitalize the operations of the struggling Grain Marketing Board.
