Jane Mlambo| Police have poured cold water on the planned demonstration by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change after posting on Twitter clarifying that they are yet to respond to the notice for the 16 August mass action.
Through its official Twitter handle @PoliceZimbabwe, the police acknowledged receiving the MDC notification but were quick to state that considerations were still being made on the notice with an official response yet to be given.
“The ZRP acknowledges receipt of MDC A notification on the intended demonstration on 16/8/19, however the Police reiterates that considerations are still being made on the notification and the official response is yet to be given to the concerned convener,” said the ZRP.

Knowing the politics in Zimbabwe and the circulating messages to the effect that the mega demonstration would a final push against President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the police notice clearly shows that the event will not be sanctioned.
