By A Correspondent- Three top members of the presidential guard, Blessmore Tembo (32), Gilbert Charuma (31) and Liberty Munemo (31) together with a former broadcaster, Musorowegomo Mukosi (41) on Thursday 30 January appeared before Mt Darwin magistrate Rutendo Muchena facing assault charges.

News Day reports that the accused were granted $500 bail each.

Reports suggest that the accused were arrested for allegedly assaulting 15 villagers and forcefully tried to take Chin gold mine in Mt Darwin.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused pounced on Mushaki Business Centre, Mt Darwin, armed with a pistol and demanded identity cards from artisanal miners, assaulted them before they disappeared.

The assaulted individuals reportedly regrouped, pursued the quartet and effected citizen arrest on the suspects.

The alleged assault happens when there is chaos in the mining sector caused by the notorious machete gangs popularly known as Mashurugwi or Al Sabab.

Machete gangs have all along been torturing, killing and or robbing miners and members of the public, particularly in mining towns until recently when reports suggested that they were even invading cities including Harare.

Economic analysts have warned that the anarchy in the mining sector might scare off potential investors and also the country risked losing potential revenue as performance is affected by the violence.
