By A Correspondent- A man drowned in a dam in Harare while evading security guards who wanted to arrest him for trespassing at a farm, police have said.
The incident took place on Monday at Harava Dam in Hatfield.
“An unidentified male adult drowned at Harava Dam, Hatfield, Harare on Monday, 11th May while evading arrest from security guards for trespassing at a local farm,” police say.
His accomplice managed to swim across the dam and escaped, the police statement added.
Police say that investigations into the case are continuing.
Meanwhile, police say that replenishing of supplies should be done at the nearest shops within a 5 km radius.
“… gathering for the purpose of consuming alcohol at shopping centres/private residents is illegal. The police will arrest all those who violate the law,” the police warned.
However, residents say oftentimes, the basic commodities they want to purchase such as mealie-meal and sugar may not be available at nearby shops
