Burundi Kicks Out WHO Official

Burundi has ordered the World Health Organization (WHO) official to leave the country. The official was directed to vacate the country alongside three other health experts over utterances that Burundi government is operating in denial.

Foreign Affairs Ministry declared the WHO official Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo and three others as ‘persona non grata’ and gave them 24 hour ultimatum to leave the country.

Dr Mulombo among Prof Tarzy Daniel, Dr Jean Pierre Murunda and Dr Ruhana Mirindi Bisimwa were declared ‘personna non grata’ in Burundi by doubting the figures given by the ministry of health about Covid-19 infections in the country.

Burundi has been on the chopping board with critics blaming the authorities for negligence by holding elections in the midst of a pandemic. The elections slated for May 20 have precipitated campaign rallies with various candidates traversing the country soliciting for votes.

There are only 15 confirmed cases of Covid-19 cases in Burundi with one fatality recorded.
