By A Correspondent- A police officer, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on charges of assault after he reportedly attacked a woman following a misunderstanding over her bus stop.
Calm Kungusai, 29, appeared before magistrate Joseph Mundondo facing allegations of assault and motor transportation.
According to court papers, the accused is a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police stationed at Mbizo Police Station.
Magistrate Mundondo granted him RTGS 7000 bail and remanded him to the 15th of September.
It is reported that on 30 August 2021 at about 1500 hours, the accused was driving an Isuzu Pick-up truck registration number AEM 4585 from Kwekwe to Harare.
He was reportedly clad in police uniform and the complainant was aboard the same vehicle seated at the back.
After the robot intersection of Bishop Gaul and Samora Machel Avenue, the complainant indicated that she wanted to drop off at a bus stop adjacent to TelOne.
However, the accused did not stop at the point only to stop at a point opposite Glow Service Station after the complainant had banged on the vehicle.
An altercation ensued between the two parties prompting the accused to slap the complainant several times on the face with open hands.
The accused also picked up a concrete stone and hit the complainant on the top right eye thereby causing injuries.
The accused was refrained from further assaulting the complainant by members of the public.
He was arrested by the police who had been notified by members of the public as the complainant was referred to the hospital for treatment.
A suspected armed robber and rapist reportedly spent 27 days with three gunshot injuries and a damaged private part without seeking medical attention fearing arrest.
Kudakwashe Choga was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Judith Taruvinga charged with four counts of armed robbery and rape.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court and the matter was remanded to 27 September
