By A Correspondent| WestProp Holdings has been named as one of the genuine, properly registered and competent property developers that Government is keen on working with to achieve universal housing delivery.

Speaking during the official handover of 112 lifestyle Millennium Heights apartment units to owners on Tuesday Deputy Minister of Local Government and Public Works Eng Benjamin Kabikira said “Government is keen to work with companies that can deliver and WestProp is certainly one of them”.

“Government is identifying genuine, competent and formally registered companies to work with in the land and property development sector. Interested companies ready to partner Government are invited to register their interest with the Ministry through the department of Public Works and the office of the Government Valuer General.

“We want to nurture a critical mass of able, competent and genuine land and property development companied, and weed out fly by night individuals and groups that have been reaping off our citizens,” he said.

Suitable land for housing development has already been identified with Government ready to “model and make financial guarantees as means to ensure urban development is made seamless”.

Eng Kabikira urged property developers to remain alive to ecological sensitivities noting that the Millennium Heights project “is a demonstration of environmentally conscious designs”.

He lauded WestProp for dovetailing into Government densification model to contain urban sprawl.

“Land is a finite resource which we must use intelligently and productively. We look forward to witnessing the conservation aspect blended with the project as it matures and becomes more prominent with time,” he said.

Deputy Minister Kabikira said WestProp was doing well to satisfy the needs of its niche market and urged other companies to emulate highlighting that doing so allows Government to address the needs of the low-income earners “knowing well the middle and high niches are well catered for”.
