Sangulani Chikumbutso changed his own name soon after his conviction for fraud.
On Tuesday, Mnangagwa announced Maxwell Chikumbutso as a persecuted inventor facing arrest by the government to stop his scientific activism for which he was once poisoned. ZimEye has fact checked this claim and found Chikumbutso as one of many undercover agents the ZANU PF run state conveniently persecutes.
Police and prosecutors report there is strong evidence linking Maxwell Sangulani Chikumbutso to various armed robberies in Harare. Some of the court records have since disappeared from the court records website archives.
