Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo|Barely a few months after she swiped at First Lady Grace Mugabe as a young woman who should not be found usurping men’s authority, Masvingo Minister Shuvai Mahofa has laid into her own boss Robert Mugabe saying his leadership has the failed the nation. In her first address in the ancient city last week, Minister Mahofa told party members at Victoria Primary School she was disappointed by the lack of zeal on the part of her boss Mugabe’s administration.
The outspoken Mahofa who has just returned to office after a lengthy absence following what many believed was a deadly sickness caused by food poisoning, attacked Mugabe’s administration for allowing the food crisis in Masvingo Province to continue. She said the failure by the government to come up with poverty alleviation methods, reflected a lack of commitment.
“Masvingo is a province that is hard hit by drought and we did not receive food aid from government in February and we want our allocation to come.The food being distributed is not enough to feed the people in need in the province. We need to be more committed towards food relief efforts.I am surprised by what is happening. Even those who lead us have to reflect the passion to help those in need of food aid,” said Mahofa.
Although Mahofa subtly mentioned the need for commitment from her said “leaders”, many party immediately expressed displeasure saying the minister’s words were pointing at President Mugabe.
“Mahofa must show respect for the government leader who is President Mugabe.How can she say the government has failed to feed the province of Masvingo yet she is part of the system?Therefore her utterances were loaded with evasive talk. She has to be careful with what she says,” said a senior provincial member.
