Terrence Mawawa Masvingo| Some members of the war veterans association have distanced themselves from the embattled Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his supposed support stronghold the Masvingo Province.
In a dramatic turn of events the veterans of the liberation struggle have distanced themselves from Mngangagwa, who is currently engaged in a fatal no holds barred public spat with Manicaland State Minister Mandi Chimene.
The war veterans in Masvingo who a few months ago declared open allegiance to Mnangagwa castigating the First Lady Grace Mugabe, whom they likened to a stepmother, have made a sudden U-turn and distanced themselves from the under-fire Midlands Godfather.
Furthermore, in the past the liberation fighters from Masvingo also had the tenacity to pen a scathing letter to Mugabe, attacking him for neglecting them claiming he gave them paltry allowances.
Masvingo Provincial war veterans chairman Tendeukai Chinooneka who openly attacked Mrs Mugabe a few months ago, said the former freedom fighters did not have any association with the anti-Mugabe communique presented in Harare.
He vowed the war veterans in Masvingo were fully behind the octagenarian publicly viewed to be the party’s candidate for the 2018 presidential plebiscite. “We are soldiers of the revolution and we always take orders from our commander.”
“Soldiers will never disobey orders. Lately war veterans have come under the spotlight after the communique but as former freedom fighters here, we distance ourselves from the statement. I do not think the communique was written by genuine war veterans,” he said.
I did not attend the meeting in Harare but I am sure the communique was written by a few individuals,” said Chinooneka.
Although Chinooneka distanced himself from the Harare meeting, there was a wave of panic within the Zanu PF rank and file following the strong communique calling on the veteran ruler to step down and pave way for Mnangagwa.

It’s very clear proceeds from looted resources are changing hands bringing out the confused and gullible wide in the open. The U-turns by these so called war vets are just staggering, mired in covert selfish agendas which amount to downright hypocrisy, what a sad lot. Unfortunately, the momentum towards change is irreversible, in time, these imbeciles will have to confront their conscience, with barely enough sand to bury their thick heads. I have always voiced my sentiments about these war vets, they deserve none of our sympathy at all, to abandone our very pride, the true ideals of our liberation just to bootlick for crumbs. Shame on you fake war vets and Revolution sellouts. Zvichapera !

So for the war veterans, it is a war of who gets more from the looting. The endgame is to stop the looting and reorganise value creating activities, so that all Zimbabweans benefit.
