Wilbert Mukori |MDC-T Member of Parliament for Bulawayo South, Eddie Cross, said he was quitting active politics to make way for the young blood.

Before you ride into the sun set, MP Cross, are you going to admit and apologise for you and your fellow MDC leaders’ betrayal of this nation by selling-out on reforms during the GNU?

The GNU offered the best opportunity since independence for the nation to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship once and once for all and you MDC lot wasted it! The primary purpose of the GNU was to implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to stop a repeat of the blatant cheating and wanton violence of the 2008 elections. MDC had five years to implement the reforms but failed to get even one reform implemented. Not even one! Why?

There is no doubt that MDC has some of the most incompetent individuals ever. Former USA Ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell, said Tsvangirai “was a flawed and indecisive character” and that was after the guy only a handful of times. The fact that there are many MDC leaders and worse the mindless wildebeest herd of the membership who continued to follow the idiot even after his countless blundering during the GNU speaks volumes of just foolish the followers are.

It is no secret that the overwhelming majority of the MDC leaders have no clue, even to this day with the benefit of hindsight, what the GNU was about.

SADC leaders tried their best to remind MDC leaders that they must implement the reforms, but their words fell on deaf ears. MDC leaders were like cockroaches in a milk-trap. Robert Mugabe entrapped the MDC leaders with the ministerial limos, generous salaries, $4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. The MDC leaders were gorging themselves on the gravy train trappings, they knew Mugabe did not want his dictatorship dismantled and they obliged by kicking reforms into the prickly pear thicket.

Of course, MDC leaders sold-out and leaders like MP Eddie Cross must come out clean and admit that and apologise to the nation.

“I am not going to contest in this year’s elections and I am handing over my constituency which I had been the MP for 10 years to a young and vibrant candidate who is going to be chosen by the party,” Cross told a national state controlled commercial radio station during a debate Monday night.

“I believe in succession politics and after 10 years leadership has to change and nothing new could anyone bring after serving for 10 years.”

No doubt, MP Cross, you and your fellow MDC leaders must have considered yourselves “young and vibrant” 20 years ago, when MDC was launched, but clearly that did not stop you blundering from pillar to post and, much worse, sell-out during the GNU.

The last 38 years have been a total disaster for Zimbabwe. The nation has fallen from its high perch of being the bread basket of the region to one starving in the Garden of Eden to become the poorest nation in Africa. ¾ of our people today live on US$1.00 or less a day! The very least we can do now is learn from our mistake and answer the question, where did we fall off the track, honestly.

How will it benefit Zimbabwe if a young and vibrant MDC leader taking over from MP Cross takes the nation even deeper into this hell-on-earth our corrupt and incompetent leaders have landed us into these last 38 years?

Getting people like MP Cross to admit they sold-out is a good starting point in making sure we learn from our past mistakes. What this nation is dying for is not just change but, more specifically, change for the better and that comes with a price tag – learn from the past.
