Today we as a nation commemorate our heroes. As I have observed on previous occasions, there is hardly any Zimbabwean family that did not participate in the effort for the liberation of our country. It follows, therefore, that this day, Heroes Day, is a day for ALL Zimbabweans.

Let us all, therefore, join in the commemorations, in our own way and in our own spaces, as we feel appropriate. Let us be cognisant that those lying at the Heroes Acre are but a representative sample of a lot more unsung heroes. We must salute them all on this day. To all those who paid the ultimate price for the liberation of our country, we will never forget your sacrifice.

May this day serve as a point of reflection by all who are living, as to whether we have stayed true to the cause for which they gave their lives.
