By Own Correspondent| Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) today descended on Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) offices and arrested its leaders Japhet Moyo and Peter Mutasa.
Information gathered by ZimEye revealed that riot police are still currently condoning the offices after taking away the workers’ body leadership.
Mutasa who is the ZCTU President and Moyo who is the Secretary General were thrown into a police truck by riot police officers and taken away.
Other police officers who descended on the protestors at Gorlon house along Jason Moyo beat up several people who had gathered for the “Economic Meltdown protest” confiscating and tearing down their placards and posters.
In an earlier interview before his arrest, Mutasa said the police had rounded their offices nationally since the protest was supposed to take place in all the provinces.
ZCTU offices in Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo, Chinhoyi and Bulawayo among others are surrounded by police who are dispersing protestors who are currently waiting for the go ahead from the court where the ZCTU is challenging the ban of their protest.
In a statement earlier, ZRP called off the planned ZCTU protest citing cholera.
