Correspondent|THE leader of the opposition party MDC, Nelson Chamisa, has responded to former Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu who yesterday said Chamisa admitted in a telephone conversation to have lost the presidential election.

Mpofu told the Commission that on the day of protests, he recorded a phone conversation, “as I always do with suspicious characters. That recording will give you a story … he (Chamisa) admitted that he had lost the elections.”

The recording was made available to the Commission which is led by former South Africa president Kgalema Motlanthe.

But Chamisa has shot back. In a tweet this morning, he said: “Econet is my service provider. His call was never about the result but the people he alleged to be MDC.”

The MDC leader said it was “bizarre” to receive a call from Mpofu, who he called a “junior Minister”.

“It was so bizarre to receive a call from Mpofu. This was his first and last call to me up to today.

“Why would I discuss unannounced results to concede to a mere junior minister?”

The Commission of Inquiry has concluded hearing evidence from the members of the public, and is preparing its report which will be handed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The President assured the nation the report will be made public.
