By Dorrothy Moyo| Mrs Svorai Chiwara, who is the wife of a jailed MDC councillor (incarcerated over the military engineered January protests) beat the ZANU PF candidate to retain the seat for the MDC party.

Despite violence by a ZANU PF gang known as ve-mabhemba, Svorai Chiwara won by 782 votes against 381 for Lloyd Nyambo of Zanu PF.

The events during the violence were tracked via video and exposed by ZimEye.com (watch below).

Her husband, Michael Gore, who is Chiwara’s husband, was sentenced to four years in jail on allegations of setting on fire ZANU PF offices in Kadoma during January protests.  Locals believe that he was convicted on from trumped up charges.

ZANU PF members from the gang called ve-mabhemna went amok on polling day at Rimuka 1 School and began assaulting people.

At least 6 people were attacked using whips that had wires on them. The attackers were also wielding machetes.

The Kadoma deputy mayor, Tendayi Kokera was one of the assaulted and her bloody stripes (on her back) are on LIVE camera.  Kokera said she “was beaten by Zanu PF youths with sjamboks. They were also wielding machetes. I reported the matter to the police. The security agents were involved because I saw some of them in suspicious vehicles.”

During his side interview the MP for the area told ZimEye.com he is concerned that the police did not act immediately.
