ANALYSIS| Emmerson Mnangagwa has unleashed security agents onto his political enemy, Phelekezela Mphoko on exactly the same day the late VP Joshua Nkomo (fled from ED) flew back into Zimbabwe. On the 16th August 1983, Mnangagwa was in hot pursuit after Nkomo when he flew back into Zimbabwe.

The three Mnangagwa, Nkomo and Mphoko have served at the same level, as Vice Presidents. Exactly 16 years later, Mnangagwa last week (16th Aug 2019) unleashed his new state security arm which he said “bites” the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption agency onto Mphoko’s house, seeking to arrest the former VP. There is a crucial legal principle that is used in courts of law all-over Zimbabwe and internationally – This is that Justice must not only be done but it must be seen to be done. It is a no brainer that the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission’s principal, Mnangagwa already has a political interest in humiliating Mphoko, so do they carry any locus standing to arrest Mphoko, especially in these circumstances?
