By A Correspondent| Police officers ran for dear life after a group of armed men pounced on money changers at Makoni shopping centre Wednesday afternoon.
The robbers, who according to an eyewitness arrived in a white double cab which had no plates were wearing masks when they disembarked from their vehicle in a typical movie style.
They were holding AK47 riffles and they allegedly fired shots in the air before pouncing on the money changers robbing them of their forex, bond notes and a Toyota Allion belonging to one of the money changers.
Said the witness:
“Police details mounting a roadblock a few metres away from where all the drama took place ran for dear life when the robbers started firing into the air. They took off their luminous green bibs and like everyone else took to their heels when they heard gunshots.”
It could not be immediately established how much the robbers went away with but eyewitnesses alleged that most of the money changers who operate near Chicken Inn Makoni were robbed.
