
Own Correspondent|Reports just received indicate that a combination of police and army officers in Masvingo manhandled state media reporter George Maponga, at a roadblock near Mucheke River Bridge in Masvingo late afternoon on Good Friday.
Maponga was driving into Masvingo cbd on official business when he was stopped at the roadblock before being harassed by the soldiers and police officers in anti riot gear.
Witnesses indicated that the senior Herald Newspaper reporter was rescued by two other police officers who quickly identified him.
The officers were randomly barring everyone, no matter the reason to get into town.
Maponga is the ZUJ chairman Masvingo chapter.
According to the lockdown regulations announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, journalists are free to do their work without hindrance.
This is the third time that journalists in the Province have been harassed by the Police. Former ZUJ president, Matthew Takaona was detained for three hours this week while another reporter in Chiredzi was allegedly arrested while covering COVID 19 stories.
