High riding Benni McCarthy is the new Bafana Bafana coach and is set to be unveiled on Wednesday.

According to a high ranking SAFA official, McCarthy will take charge of Bafana Bafana in a negotiated arrangement which will see his assistants at AmaZulu Siyabonga Nomvethe and Moeneeb Josephs assist him at the national team.

McCarthy who has had a stellar show at AmaZulu taking them into the title race, will take full charge of Bafana Bafana at the end of the season.

His first assignment will be against Zimbabwe on 5 June in Harare in a World Cup qualifying match.

SAFA settled for McCarthy after failing to lure back Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane. The deal to bring back Portuguese Carlos Quiroz fell through on the last minute forcing SAFA to turn on to local coaches.
