UK Demands Genuine Political Reforms From Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|In a development that is likely to punctuate the hullabaloo in the Zanu PF camp, the UK has insisted on genuine political reforms.

According to SADC News, the UK has urged the President of Zimbabwe to deliver on “genuine” political and economic reforms in order to ensure a brighter future for the country.

Newly elected Prime Minster of the UK, Boris Johnson, also asked Emmerson Mnangagwa to implement recommendations by the Motlanthe Commission, which was set up after demonstrators were shot and killed in 2018.

STORY OF THE WEEK: Walter Magaya Confesses After 4 People Killed, Says Aguma Was Clinically Tested In Botswana

“It has gone through all trials, and it has gone through all tests in South Africa, in Botswana, in India and other countries.” –

 – Walter Magaya

  • Botswana Minister Of Health says it is not true

By Simba Chikanza| Speaking after four people died after taking his Aguma medication, the controversial preacher, Walter Magaya has returned to the fore to defend his HIV AIDS “treatment”, this time claiming it has undergone clinical tests in three nations, namely, South Africa, Botswana, and India.

The development comes 10 months after Magaya’s treatment was “banned” and the preacher was arrested, convicted and fined USD700.

Impeccable documents show that just as Magaya was raided by police over his so called “treatment,” Aguma on the 30th October 2018, within 10 days he had registered another brand and would continue selling Aguma under a second brand known as Aviivo.

Four people have since died after taking Aguma. The father of one the victims, tells his story in the feature release today, on 1st August.

“We are the first batch of clients, if I am not mistaken, we should be the 3rd customers; When it was first called Aguma, and we were buying on behalf of my son, whatever the case, we thought my son was going to be helped, until he developed a condition with the kidney infection, it was caused by those herbs. He died on the 4th April this year.

ZimEye reached Magaya’s lawyer for a comment early in July and none was given, despite messages reaching him.

The preacher however contacted ZimEye on Monday evening apparently hoping to use a well known politician so to possibly obtain media favours. Magaya told ZimEye he wishes to travel to the London, UK for a crusade meeting and before then, he wants to clear his name concerning many reports and allegations against his name.

Although he hung up the phone promising to phone back on Wednesday, Walter Magaya answered the crucial question concerning complaints about his Aguma medication.

His exact words were: “Apparently, everything is tested, everything is clinical and I’ve all the papers that are necessary to answer. Let me tell my team to contact Dr Wellness to address everything, as I have said, allow me to answer everything on Wednesday, and all the things, to clear the conceptions to the minds, to answer on all such things.

“Cause whatever is said to have been given to people, it has gone through all the clinical trials, but Aviivo is not me. I am not even Avivo at all, and I have the papers to prove that Aguma was discontinued, and it has gone through all trials, and it has gone through all tests in South Africa, in Botswana, in India and other countries.

“I am sure you have all those things. But anyway everything I will answer you [on Wednesday].”

Wednesday however came and Magaya did not call as per his promise. He later responded via text message to claim he is in Nigeria with his mentor TB Joshua.

Contrary to his claims, a brief visit at Magaya’s premises at 166 – 8 Smuts Road, Prospect proves the preacher is truly selling Aviivo. (SEE PICTURES)

Furthermore contrary to his claims, there is no record at all of clinical tests on Aguma, or Aviivo in Botswana, or South Africa, and on Tuesday the Botswana’s Minister  of Health & Wellness, Dr Alfred Madigele told ZimEye via phone, “it is not true, I am not aware of any such.” He then requested for an email so he could forward an official response.

Dr Stella Nyanzi Jailed For Ridiculing Museveni

Stella Nyanzi

Former Makerere University Researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for cyber harassment. However, she will only spend eight months in prison, in consideration of the time she has spent on remand, since her arrest in November 2018.

Nyanzi was sentenced by Buganda Road Court Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu following her conviction which stemmed from a boorish birthday poem, which was posted on her social media pages on September 16, 2018, a day after President Museveni’s 74th birthday. The poem ridiculed President Museveni’s late mother Esteeri Kokundeka.

In the post, Stella Nyanzi, formerly a research fellow at Makerere University Institute for Social Research, crafted vulgarity about President Museveni and his birth. On the basis of the post, she was accused of cyber harassment and offensive communication.

The prosecution said that the post disturbed the peace, quiet or right of privacy of President Museveni. However, she was found guilty of cyber harassment and acquitted on the charges of offensive communication.

Although the offence of cyber harassment attracts a maximum sentence of 3 years or a fine of sh1.4 million shillings, the Magistrate said the term of 18-months was appropriate, since Nyanzi was a first time offender, with no criminal record.

Nyanzi’s heard her sentence through video conferencing live from Luzira Prison, while hundreds of her supporters filled the courtroom.  On the live link, she was seen stripping naked and heard uttering obscenities, in what was interpreted as a sign of protest. But the images and the volume were muted by the technical team.

Before the images were switched off, Nyanzi was seen rubbing and squeezing her breasts while cursing the ruling government of President Yoweri Museveni faulting it for poor service delivery especially in Luzira prisons.

Her supporters at the courtroom were cheering her, equally hurling insults at the Magistrate. A number of them held protests outside the court. URN has learnt that four of them were arrested and taken to Kampala Central Police Station.

ZANU PF Forces Teachers And Learners To Attend Mnangagwa’s Event

Mnangagwa opens the youth games with Minister of Sports Kirsty Coventry

NewsDay|GWERU teachers and pupils from Grades 4 to Form 6 were this week compelled to attend the official opening of the Zimbabwe Youth and Paralympic Games at Mkoba Stadium, where President Emmerson Mnangagwa was officiating.

The move was aimed at boosting attendance at the venue located in the MDC stronghold.

Mkoba constituency has been in the hands of MDC since the opposition party’s formation and Zanu PF has performed dismally in the area in all elections.

In a communication sent to all headmasters in the city on Tuesday, the acting Gweru district schools inspector Angeline Zahile, citing authority from top officials, ordered that all learners from Grades 4 to “A” Level, teachers, support staff and all officers in the education ministry attend the event without fail.

Schools were ordered to suspend lessons and cancel mid-year examinations currently underway.

Though Mnangagwa was expected to officiate at 3pm, the correspondence ordered all educators and pupils to be seated in the stadium by 11:30am. They had to endure the scorching sun until the end of the proceedings around 4pm.

The correspondence, seen by Southern Eye, reads: “Tomorrow, the State President will be in our district for the official opening of the Youth Games at Mkoba Stadium. What does this mean? The message from the PED (provincial education director) is, take note all leaners from Grades 4 up to ‘A’ Level, teachers, support staff and school heads and all district staff are expected to be seated by 11:30am in the stadium,” she wrote.

“So, may we suspend all mid-morning and afternoon mid-year examinations or lessons and all go to the stadium … all schools with buses, inclusive of St Patrick’s, Lower Gweru, Anderson Adventist High School, Guinea Fowl and in our rural areas are expected to carry learners and teachers to Mkoba Stadium … We expect a minimum of 5 000 learners to be in that stadium… HEADS (school headmasters), THIS IN AN INSTRUCTION! Thank you,” Zahile ordered.

Contacted for comment, Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president, Takavafira Zhou, condemned the development, saying it violated children and teachers’ rights.

“The DSI is certainly off-side. To cancel lessons and examinations because of Youth Games is the highest ludicrous hallucination by a Zanu PF activist, masquerading as a DSI. Schools are terrains for learning and not extensions of Zanu PF mass mobilisation. To also force all teachers and pupils to be at the Youth Games venue, merely because Mnangagwa is coming there, is a violation of their freedom of association, let alone a violation of children’s rights,” he said.

“PTUZ condemns outrightly such force-marching of teachers and pupils to Youth Games at the expense of teaching and learning. Worse still, the DSI is forcing minors to attend a rally without the consent of their parents. Any movement of pupils outside the school premises must be indemnified by parents.”

There was a stampede during the proceedings as security details prohibited people from leaving the venue before Mnangagwa had finished his address.

Mnangagwa, in his speech, said sport teaches inclusivity and discipline.

“The Youths and Paralympic games were initiated to uplift people living with disabilities. This willingness is enshrined in our Vision 2030. Indeed, sports knows no colour… it also teaches people to respect rules and laws. My government is going to increase the funding of these games,” he said.

He also congratulated the women’s netball team, The Gems, for their success at the World Cup and challenged the Zimbabwe Football Association to take a leaf and ensure the men’s national team, the Warriors, reach similar levels.

Gauteng Premier Vows To Revenge On Foreigners Who Attacked Police In Joburg

Foreigners overpower police in Johannesburg

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, has condemned the violent, riotous behaviour, spearheaded by ‘foreign nationals’, which engulfed the Johannesburg CBD on Thursday.

Johannesburg’s inner city was plunged into chaos on Thursday morning, when law enforcement agencies attempted to confiscate counterfeit goods from informal traders. A joint operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) quickly spiralled out of control when vendors fought back against the raids.

Joburg riots led by foreign nationals, says Makhura
According to Premier Makhura and Chief of the JMPD, David Tembe, foreign nationals operating in the inner-city responded with violence; hurling bricks and petrol bombs at law enforcement officers.

The police raid quickly turned into a full-scale riot. Multiple roads into the city were cordoned off and officers were eventually forced to unleash rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the ferocious crowd.

Despite the police’s best non-lethal efforts, the angry crowd continued to surge forward. Under severe pressure and “not willing to exercise deadly force”, law enforcement withdrew from the area. According to an official statement issued later that day:

“[Police] tactically withdrew from an intelligence-driven operation targeting counterfeit goods in the Joburg CBD. This came after a violent crowd of foreign nationals attacked police with objects including bricks and petrol bombs.”

Following the wanton lawlessness and vicious attack on police officers, major stakeholders in the City have lashed out at ‘foreign nationals’. Makhura vowed to intensify police operations in the city and hold those responsible for the violence accountable, saying:

“Some foreign nationals who sell counterfeit goods and occupy buildings illegally in the Joburg CBD attacked our police with bottles and petrol bombs. This despicable crime against our state will never be tolerated. Okae Molao will respond in full force to defend rule of law.”

Mashaba demands arrests, says CBD should be ‘closed off’
City of Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba, also voiced his disdain early on Friday morning, saying:

“I am deeply hurt and devastated to wake up this morning to learn that not a single criminal is arrested after the blatant disregard of our country’s laws yesterday in the Inner City.

I would have expected the city to have been closed off and all criminals behind bars by now.”

Gauteng community safety MEC, Faith Mazibuko, said she too condemned the attacks, taking specific aim at foreigners, saying:

“We condemn all criminal elements hellbent on undermining the rule of the law in this country and making this country ungovernable.

We can’t co-govern with criminals, especially foreign nationals who want to turn our country into a lawless Banana Republic.”

U.S Kills Osama Bin Laden’s Son

Osama bin Laden’s son Hamza

Osama bin Laden’s son Hamza, chosen heir to the leadership of Al-Qaeda, has been killed, US media reported Wednesday citing American officials.

NBC News said three US officials had confirmed they had information of Hamza bin Laden’s death, but gave no details of the place or date.

The New York Times subsequently cited two US officials saying they had confirmation that he was killed during the last two years in an operation that involved the United States.

Questioned by reporters in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump did not confirm or deny the NBC report.

“I don’t want to comment on it,” he said.

Both reports suggested that bin Laden may have been killed well before the US State Department announced a $1 million bounty on his head in February 2019.

The 15th of Osama bin Laden’s 20 children and a son of his third wife, Hamza, thought to be about 30 years old, was “emerging as a leader in the Al-Qaeda franchise,” the State Department said in announcing the reward.

Sometimes dubbed the “crown prince of jihad, he had put out audio and video messages calling for attacks on the United States and other countries, especially to avenge his father’s killing by US forces in Pakistan in May 2011, the department said.

Documents seized in the raid on his father’s house in Abbottabad suggested Hamza was being groomed as heir to the Al-Qaeda leadership.

US forces also found a video of the wedding of Hamza to the daughter of another senior Al-Qaeda official that is believed to have taken place in Iran.

Hamza bin Laden’s whereabouts have never been pinpointed. He was believed to have been under house arrest in Iran but reports suggest he also may have resided in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.

The group behind the deadly September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, Al-Qaeda’s prominence as a radical Islamist group has faded over the past decade in the shadow of the Islamic State group.

But the proliferation of branches and associated jihadist groups in Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and elsewhere have underscored its continuing potency.

Hamza bin Laden was not targeted just because he was bin Laden’s son, said Rita Katz, executive director of the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks extremists.

“He was one of Al-Qaeda’s loudest voices calling for attacks in the West and giving directives. He, with Al-Qaeda’s help, was positioning himself to lead the global jihadi movement,” Katz said on Twitter.

“He was seen as a future leader who would unite the global jihad. Thus, if he is indeed dead, it will be a major blow to the movement,” she said.

“I think it’s a big loss for Al-Qaeda,” said Pakistani security expert Rahimullah Yusufzai, one the few journalists to have interviewed Osama bin Laden face to face.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Mr Shepherd Gwenzi, in a statement, said the session comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s historic visit to the Russian Federation early this year.

President Mnangagwa’s three-day State visit saw him meeting his Russian counterpart Mr Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin where they sealed a number of deals, including a financial package to assist Harare settle and restructure its international debt and fund new projects.

“The second session of the Intergovernmental Commission was held in Harare from April 28-30 2016 during which numerous agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed,” said Mr Gwenzi.

“The session comes on the heels of His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s historic and very successful official visit to the Russian Federation in January 2019. Again a number of MoUs were signed in order to broaden and deepen bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.”

Mr Gwenzi said the session will focus on the review of the implementation of existing agreements and MoUs to increase economic cooperation.

“The upcoming session, which will focus mainly on the review of the implementation of existing agreements and MoUs, will see increased cooperation between Zimbabwe and Russia in such sectors such as trade, mines, energy, defence, agriculture, higher and tertiary education and media,” he said.

“The evolving economic cooperation between the two countries is furtherance of economic diplomacy firmly anchored on the excellent political relations between Harare and Moscow which dates back to the days of the liberation struggle. Since the attainment of our independence in 1980, these relations continue to blossom.”

Mr Gwenzi said the generous donations of tents, blankets and food supplies by the Russian government to assist people affected by Cyclone Idai was yet another testimony of the strong bond of friendship and solidarity that binds the two countries and peoples together.

Zimra cracks whip on tax defaulters

Zimbabwe, he said, appreciated the fraternal gesture.

The visit by the Zimbabwean delegation is part of President Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement drive that is one of the key pillars towards making Zimbabwe an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

Jane Mlambo| Sports minister Kirsty Coventry has committed to help Caps United Football club to be able to bring home their bus donated by former player Nyasha Mushekwi.

Mushekwi purchased a 45 seater bus which his is set to be donated to Makepekepe.

The Green Machine wrote to Coventry requesting to import the bus duty free and the former swimming sensation has expressed willingness to assist the team.

CABS Shuts Down Four Key Access Branches

Old Mutual owned CABS bank has shut down four of its branches in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare in a move that is likely to leave tens of workers jobless.

Though CABS did not state the reasons for the move, it could be attributed to the current economic challenges that has seen most local companies struggling to remain operational due to a myriad of problems from inflation, increased cost of operation owing to excessive loadshedding among others.

Below is the CABS communication to its customers.

Woes Mount For Detained Tourism Minister

State Media– Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira is a flight risk who holds two passports and has properties in the United Kingdom, a High Court judge heard.

Mupfumira, who was arrested by the recently-constituted Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), will spend the weekend in remand prison after Justice Erica Ndewere yesterday deferred her bail application to Monday.

Justice Ndewere postponed the matter to allow the State to call the investigating officer to give evidence during the bail application. Mupfumira is facing criminal abuse of public office charges involving US$95 million.

She was detained last week after the State invoked Section 32 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which allows it to seek the further detention of a suspect up to 21 days to conduct further investigations.

The State led by Mrs Sharon Fero challenged Mupfumira’s bail application at the High Court yesterday, arguing that there was already a certificate which was tendered to the Prosecutor-General that bars any court from entertaining her before the stipulated 21 days lapsed.

“An aggrieved part can only approach this court when an inferior court had made a determination in relation to bail,” said Mrs Fero.

“I submit that the magistrate did not entertain the issue of bail. He was never asked to make a determination. He did not refuse to grant the applicant bail, so, for that reason the appeal ought to be struck off the roll.”

Mrs Fero accused Mupfumira of trying to take her bail application to the High Court through the back door.

“This court has no right to hear a case which is being brought via the back door,” she said.

Mupfumira, through her lawyer Advocate Lewis Uriri, who is acting on the instructions of Mr Charles Chinyama, said they had a right to be heard, arguing that they were rightly before the court.More in Home

Justice Ndewere ruled that the court had jurisdiction to hear Mupfumira’s bail application.

The State then opposed that Mupfumira be granted bail, arguing that investigations into the matter were still in progress.

Mrs Fero said Mupfumira had two passports and properties in the United Kingdom, leaving room for her to abscond trial. She said there was need for the investigating officer to testify to that effect.

Adv Uriri denied that Mupfumira had properties in the United Kingdom, saying being a holder of two passports did not mean that she will not stand trial.

He said Mupfumira had once travelled out of the country late in July and returned with full knowledge of the allegations she is facing.

Justice Ndewere deferred the matter to Monday for continuation of the bail application where the investigating officer is expected to testify before the court.

Temba Mliswa Showers Perence Shiri With Praises For Parly Behaviour

Perence Shiri

Independent member of parliament for Norton Constituency Temba Mliswa, has showered praises for disgraced Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement, Retired Air Chief Marshal Perence Shiri for apologising for his unwarranted slur on opposition members of parliament on Wednesday.

Mliswa shockingly described Shiri as a principled man who stooped too low to apologise for his shocking behaviour.

Mliswa gave his praises in parliament on Thursday ahead of the presentation of the supplementary budget by Minister Mthuli Ncube.

Mr. Speaker Sir, let me also recognise and appreciate Hon. Shiri’s remarks.  It is real magnanimity for him to do that.  It is not many leaders of his level: he was a commander of the liberation struggle, ZANLA in the Tete Province, that he can stand up and make such an apology.  That is something that has humbled me and because of, that I would want to be schooled by him on how to do things.

I do not know if he can agree to be my mentor, though late but I think that is something I have never thought a man of his stature would stand up to do that.  There is a lot that we can learn from him.

Foreigners Fight Off Police In Joburg, Mayor Blames Immigration Department For The Chaos.

Joburg streets littered with bricks after the violent clashes.

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says national government is to blame for the ongoing chaos in the Johannesburg CBD.

Mashaba described the situation in the CBD as a “time bomb in the City of Johannesburg”.

On Thursday, police officers clashed with foreign shop keepers in the CBD.

Police used rubber bullets to disperse a group of protestors who had barricaded Rahima Moosa Street on Thursday.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubele said the owners of a shop barricaded the road and threw stones at police when they heard that a raid was going to take place in the building.

Three Johannesburg Metro Police Department vehicles were damaged and three civilians members were injured.

“The protest became violent as JMPD officers were attacked,” said JMPD Spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar.

“Their vehicles were damaged in the process.”

Shopkeepers accuse police of using live ammunition.

Mashaba says Home Affairs is responsible for the mess in the city’s streets.

“Unfortunately we are being let down very badly by Home Affairs who are creating this mess,” said Mashaba who was visiting the scene of a skirmish between police and vendors.

“In the under three years I have been in office, I am now dealing with the fifth minister of Home Affairs, I have brought this matter up in December to say that the City of Johannesburg is sitting time bomb in terms of undocumented people in the city.”

Mashaba says what happened in the CBD is unacceptable and the culprits must be arrested.

“It is unacceptable that our police can be attacked in that matter regardless of what happened,” Mashaba said.

“I don’t believe I want to live in a country where police can be attacked in that manner and we don’t retaliate.”

The mayor further stated that he is disappointed that no arrests have been made 24 hours after the incident.

Rambai Makashinga, Mnangagwa Calls On Zimbabweans

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has acknowledged the downside of the economy, telling Zimbabweans that they should persevere and confront the hardships head-on.

“We have problems, but we must not avoid them. We are supposed to face them head-on. In that process, we have to go through hard times until we surmount those challenges,” he said.

Speaking during his traditional national clean-up exercise in Mount Pleasant, Harare, Mnangagwa said the country did not, as yet, have its own currency despite having banned the use of the multi-currency regime.

“You know that on the aspect of currency, we banned the multi-currency regime and said we want our own money. We are yet to have our own currency, but we banned the other currencies,” he said.

“What we have left is the RTGS and swipe. In the future, money will come that will have our own features of Zimbabwe so that we can hold our heads high.”

Ncube increased prices of most government services and electricity tariffs, pushed up taxes on alcohol and fuel.

Before the introduction of the new Zimbabwe notes and coins, the local currency is already taking a beating after Finance minister Mthuli Ncube in his Mid-term budget review on Thursday introduced measures that could trigger inflation.

In anticipation of the looming price hikes, the Zanu PF leader warned business people, saying he could soon introduce laws to arrest those who increase prices of their commodities, but failing to increase salaries of their workers.

“Prices in this country are just going up and going up, but the business owners, who are increasing prices, are not increasing salaries of their workers, who are selling their goods in the shops,” Mnangagwa said.

“What is happening to the money that you are taking from your consumers? Yesterday, the good was $3, today it’s $7, the next day, it’s up to $10. Have you done the same for the worker? No, you have not. Well, it’s good, we will see between me and you who has power. I have the law and I have handcuffs to arrest you. We will see who will arrest the other. We need laws to deal with this.”

Mnangagwa, facing threats of impeachment and demonstrations from the opposition, said he was doing everything within his power to improve the livelihoods of the general citizenry.

“Your government is doing all it can day in, day out so that we have a better life tomorrow. The journey is difficult, but where we are going, there is hope for good things. I think by the end of the year, we will remove austerity measures because things will be well,” he said.

NSSA Pays Wedza Teacher $48000 Monthly Salary

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Sekai Nzenza

While thousands of aged National Social Security Authority pension beneficiaries went for months with no pay, the authority’s records show a classic case of a teacher in Wedza whose monthly salary was recorded as $48 000.

The shambles in the NSSA membership records were revealed in the much-awaited forensic audit report which was tabled in Parliament, with Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Sekai Nzenza saying it will be used to “bring the guilty to book” and recover looted funds.

The report  which was commissioned by Auditor-General Mildred Chiri covered the period from January 2015 to early 2018.

Parliament is now expected to debate the report and make necessary recommendations to Minister Nzenza arising from the report.

Kwekwe Left With One Ambulance After ZIMRA Took a Away Donated Ambulances Fraudulently Imported By Tapfuma

Director State Residences in the Office of the President and Cabinet Douglas Tapfuma picture at Harare magistrates court

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has impounded two Kwekwe City Council ambulances for circumventing import tax, as investigations into the tax fraud involving former Director State Residences in the Office of the President and Cabinet Douglas Tapfuma deepen.

The ambulances, which were donated to the local authority by Vongaishe Mpereri during his tenure as a Member of Parliament for Mbizo, were brought in from South Africa, and ZIMRA has queries on clearance of the vehicles upon entry into the country.

Tapfuma was allegedly involved in importing the ambulances together with 81 other vehicles without paying tax.

Mpereri said the ZIMRA officers had some investigations to make regarding the clearance of the vehicles.

“We bought the ambulances in South Africa using the CDF funds, so the officers have questions on the clearance of the vehicles,” he said. “But I am told that the investigations are almost complete and the vehicles will be returned to council in a few days. We are not there to block the authorities from carrying out their duties.”

Contacted for comment, ZIMRA head of corporate communications Mr Francis Chimanda confirmed the probe, but declined to give more details citing secrecy provisions.

“Please note that the query relates to an individual’s clearance and in terms of the secrecy provisions in both the Revenue Authority Section 34A and the Customs and Excise Act, Section 210, we are not in a position to provide a response,” wrote Mr Chimanda in response to e-mailed questions.

Acting Kwekwe Town Clerk Dr Lucia Mnkandla said council officials were in the dark over the seizure of the ambulances.

“I can confirm that ZIMRA took away two of the ambulances that were handed over to council by Mpereri,” she said. “We are, however, not aware of the reasons behind the seizure of the vehicles.”

Dr Mnkandla said the local authority’s ambulance fleet had been left depleted and only one ambulance was functional.

“We have been left in dire straits as we are left with only one ambulance that is up and running,” she said. “Two others are down, so the ambulances had helped to ease the situation in the town.”

Zim Among Top Six Countries With High HIV Drug Resistance Rate

ZIMBABWE is among the top six countries in Africa with a high HIV drug resistance rate especially among women, the World Health Organisation (WHO) 2019 Drug Resistance report has revealed.

South Africa tops the list with a 23.6 percent Pretreatment Drug Resistance (PDR) to Efavirenz or Nevirapine — components of antiretroviral drugs followed by Namibia which has a 13.8 percent while Zimbabwe has 10.9 percent PDR to EDF/NVP.

Globally there are 18 countries including Swaziland, Cameroon, Namibia, Uganda, Nepal, Cuba, Vietnam, Brazil and Mexico whose rise in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the greatest threats to global health.

“About 12 of 18 countries that reported survey findings to WHO, PDR to nevirapine/efavirenz in populations initiating first-line ART had reached levels above 10 percent and these include Swaziland, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

In the Ssdc region, South Africa tops the list with a 23.6 percent Pretreatment Drug Resistance (PDR) to efavirenz/nevirapine followed by Namibia which has a 13.8 percent PDR to EFV/NVP while Zimbabwe has 10.9 percent PDR to EDF/NVP,” read the report.

The rise in drug resistant cases according to WHO, if not urgently addressed, may result in millions of deaths, an increase in new and hard-to-treat infections and increased health-care costs.

“As a result, combating AMR, including the threat posed by drug-resistant HIV, is a major goal for the global community. Prevention, monitoring and timely response to population levels of HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) is critical to achieving the WHO/UNAIDS 90–90–90 targets for 2020,” read the report.State media

Mnangagwa Government “Summons” US Ambassador Over “Sanctions “

GOVERNMENT yesterday summoned the United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe Brian Nichols over the placement on sanctions of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-designate to Tanzania, Anselem Sanyatwe and his wife, Ms Chido Machona on allegations that the former violated human rights.

Ambassador Sanyatwe is a former Commander of the Presidential Guard.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade spokesperson Mr Shepherd Gwenzi said the Ministry’s permanent secretary Ambassador James Manzou met Ambassador Nichols yesterday.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on 2 August 2019 summoned the Ambassador of the United States of America to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Brian Nichols. He met the Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ambassador James Manzou and the purpose of the summons was to express displeasure of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe over the public designation of His Excellency Lieutenant-General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe, currently Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-designate to the United Republic of Tanzania and former commander of the Zimbabwe National Army’s presidential Guard Brigade, by the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo under section 7031(c) FY 2019, Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programme, Appropriations Act (Div.F.P.I.116.6), allegedly for gross violations of human rights related to the August 1, 2018 post-election incident,” he said.State media

Mnangagwa Rejects Investment “With Conditions “

Zimbabwe welcomes foreign investors into the country but will not accept investments that come with conditions attached.

This was said by President Mnangagwa after taking part in the ninth edition of the National Environment Cleaning Day at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre yesterday.
He also said there must be unity and peace among Zimbabweans if the country is to develop.

“We want a better future, we want the next generation to live a better life than ourselves and to do so the current generation should be united as a country, as a people and we must put our heads together and shoulders on the wheel to develop, to modernise, to industrialise our country,” President Mnangagwa said.

“We can do that and achieve that on our own, depending on our resources but alas, the pace at which we develop would be very slow. That’s why we have said ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ in order to attract foreign direct investment into the country and assist us to develop the various sectors of the economy: agriculture, mining, tourism, manufacturing, infrastructure development and ICTs.

“But when FDIs come into the country, they must come at the dictates of ourselves; no political ties, no conditions. The conditions should only be those which we want and this can only be achieved if we remain united, when we remain peaceful, when each one of us strives to do one’s best in whatever they are doing.”

President Mnangagwa said Government had embarked on the re-engagement process so that the country re-joins the community of nations.State media

Woman Stays With Two Lovers In Same House

A Maphisa woman has shocked villagers in the area after her two male lovers settled to stay with her in the same house for two months since neither of them could let her go.

At first Pretty Mangwende and her two lovers, Simbarashe Mukupe and the other only identified as Oliver seemed to be living peacefully in a section of the growth point, commonly known as Garikai.

However, it is reported that trouble began when Mangwende got a job at Velakuhle Bar. What had seemed to be a mutual arrangement between the two men turned to a battle ground.

Oliver and Mukupe reportedly quarrelled incessantly over who should continue to stay with Mangwende until Oliver decided to go and report at Mangwende’s workplace that she was staying with him and Mukupe and this resulted in Mangwende being fired.

When B-Metro contacted Mangwende she opened up about the issue before dropping the phone.
“Yes, I was dating the two men and I was living with both of them. The thing is they had different rooms but we lived in the same house and so I don’t see anything wrong with that”, raged Mangwende.

She added: “What I can tell you is that at the moment I am no longer living with them because things did not just work out. It is not true that we had any misunderstandings or quarrelling. I was not even fired at work because of that issue. I cannot tell you more because I have never seen you and you have no business asking about my life”.

Efforts to get a comment from Oliver and Mukupe were fruitless. However, residents of the area are still shocked at Mangwende’s guts.

“We just cannot believe that a woman can stay with two men in the same house. It is our first time to hear about it and we do not know how she managed to do that, maybe she used juju ”, said a bewildered man who only identified himself as Sibanda.

A source close to this issue spoke on condition of anonymity: “I used to live close to them and it was just weird to witness Mangwende staying with the two men. I cannot even say they were desperate for shelter because they both work.”

The Maphisa woman’s case comes hot on the heels of another similar case in which a woman from Lupane left her community shocked last month after it emerged she was married to two men and had children with both of them.State media

Retail Giant Donates To Auxillia Mnangagwa

The Spar Group yesterday donated 50 scholarships to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s charity, Angel of Hope Foundation, to benefit disadvantaged children of her choice.

The donation was made at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre in Mt Pleasant, Harare, by the company’s human resources director, Mr Moses Chihuri, after the clean-up exercise that was led by President Mnangagwa.

Mr Chihuri told the President that the donation was in recognition of the charity work the First Lady was doing.

“Your Excellency, the First Lady has done a lot of good work to assist vulnerable groups, especially children, and in recognition of that good work, we are donating 50 scholarships to the First Lady’s charity that will assist the children until they complete their education and she will choose the beneficiaries,” Mr Chihuri said.

He said the value of the scholarships was dependent on the education level attained by the beneficiaries.State media

Soccer Fans Call For Erection Of Nakamba Statue

SOME Hwange residents and villagers have called for the erection of a Marvelous Nakamba statue at his rural home Dinde in Hwange district along Victoria Falls road as an honor of becoming the first player from the district to play in the English Premier League.

Nakamba penned a five year old deal with EPL returnees Aston Villa this week, joining other iconic stars like Bruce Grobbelaar, Peter Ndlovu and Benjan Mwaruwari, ironically all with roots to Bulawayo giants Highlanders.

While Nakamba played organised junior football for Highlanders and later on Bantu Rovers, he was born in the coal mining town of Hwange 25 years ago when his father Anthony, was an assistant goalkeeper to Johannes Tshuma at Hwange FC.

His rural home is Dinde about 35km from Hwange town, under Chief Nekatambe.State media

Fireworks Expected As FC Platinum, Caps Clash

Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe is expecting a big response from his team when they face champions FC Platinum in a top-of-the-table Castle Lager Premiership clash at Mandava this afternoon.

Chitembwe last week criticised his players for lacking the fighting spirit of a team chasing the championship following a demoralising 1-2 home loss to Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The Green Machine have won one game in their last seven outings.
“Of course, we are happy we did a bit of some very good work during the course of the week.

”I thought the response by the boys, over what happened last week, was very good going by what I saw in training.

“It was very encouraging and I think there is no better opportunity to try and correct what happened last week than this game.

”I think it has presented us with an opportunity to try and correct everything,” said Chitembwe.
Apart from Phineas Bamusi, who is on national team duty, Chitembwe is expecting to have all his arsenal at his disposal.

The platinum miners limp into the match after losing some of their key players during the just-ended mid-season transfer window.

The Zvishavane miners, who appeared compact during the last few years when they enjoyed success in the domestic league, should be feeling the pinch after they parted ways with the quartet of Elvis Moyo, Kevin Moyo, Farai Madhanhanga and Ali Sadiki.

The Moyo twins, Kevin and Elvis, joined Chippa United while Sadiki moved to Kabwe Warriors in Zambia.
Madhanhanga was the latest to leave when he signed for Bidvest Wits in South Africa.

Utility man Godknows Murwira has also crossed the floor to join rivals Dynamos.
The platinum miners, for the second game on the bounce, will not have their coach Norman Mapeza on the bench after the former Zimbabwe international was reportedly given a two-week leave to recover from an undisclosed sickness.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum have registered a 26-man squad, which coach Norman Mapeza believes has the capacity to again reach the Caf Champions’ League group stage.State media

Mupfumira Has Properties in UK, And 2 Passports

Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira is a flight risk as she is a holder of two passports and has properties in the United Kingdom, a High Court judge heard.

Mupfumira, who was arrested by the recently constituted Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, will spend the weekend in remand prison after Justice Erica Ndewere yesterday deferred her bail application to Monday.

Justice Ndewere postponed the matter to allow the State to call the investigating officer to give evidence during Mupfumira’s bail application.

Mupfumira is facing criminal abuse of public office charges amounting to $95 million. She was detained last week after the State invoked Section 32 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which allows it to seek further detention of a suspect up to 21 days to conduct further investigations.

The State led by Mrs Sharon Fero challenged Mupfumira’s bail application arguing that there was already a certificate from the Prosecutor-General that bars any court from entertaining her bail application before the stipulated 21 days lapsed.

“An aggrieved part can only approach this court when an inferior court has made a determination in relation to bail. I submit that the magistrate did not entertain the issue of bail. He was never asked to make a determination. He did not refuse to grant the applicant bail, so, for that reason the appeal ought to be struck off the roll,” said Mrs Fero.
She accused Mupfumira of trying to take her bail application to the High Court through the back door. “This court has no right to hear a case which is being brought via the back door,” she said.

Mupfumira, through her lawyer, Advocate Lewis Uriri, who is acting on the instructions of Mr Charles Chinyama, said they had a right to be heard, arguing that they were rightly before the court.

When Justice Ndewere ruled that the court had jurisdiction to hear Mupfumira’s bail application, the State then opposed granting bail arguing that investigations into the matter were still going-on.

Mrs Fero said Mupfumira had two passports and also had properties in the United Kingdom and was likely to abscond if granted bail. She said there was need for the investigating officer to testify to that effect.

Adv Uriri denied that Mupfumira had properties in the United Kingdom, saying being a holder of two passports did not mean that she will not stand trial.

He said Mupfumira late last month travelled out of the country and returned with full knowledge of the allegations she is facing.

Justice Ndewere deferred the matter to Monday for continuation of the bail application and the investigating officer is expected to testify. -state media

“We Will Not Rest Until We Complete Struggle For Democracy”

One Year Later, the struggle for the Zimbabwe we want continues unabated.

Today marks a sad one year commemoration of the brutal, callous and devilishly senseless murder seven civilians in cold blood, all in a bid supress fundamental rights by the Dambudzo regime.

That these murders happened in broad daylight and in the full glare of the media says a lot about a regime with no regard to human life and will go to unimaginable lengths for the sake power retention.

The young people who took into the streets that fateful day were nothing more than a hopeful generation exercising their Constitutional rights to peacefully demonstrate and express themselves. They were young people fed up with the plunderers of our national wealth who were already in the process of stealing their voices again, voices loudly made in the voting booth.

Today a year later, no one has been held to account for those has been held to account for the killings. The regime has in fact wasted millions of dollars in a brazen attempt to cover up using the compromised and captured Motlante Commission.

Today exactly a year later, the same evil system young people were demonstrating is not only still here with us but has even gotten more ruthless, clueless and cruel. Twice the number was killed in January, human rights defenders continue to be frequent inhabitants of police cells on flimsy charges while the military thinks abductions are their chief role.
Today we are still as determined as we always have been to remove the illegitimate cabal that some opt to call a government and restore our great Zimbabwe to its former glory, by all means neccesary.

August 1 2018 should never be repeated, Zimbabwe should, must, can and shall be liberated and a New Zimbabwe shall be born where each of us including military shall know our place in democracy and civilian politics shall lead the gun not the current status quo.

May the innocent souls who perished on August 1 2018 rest in Power and may we ALL not find rest until their lives are accounted for through the completion of the STRUGGLE for Democratization.

Zimbabwe Shall Be Free.

“Not A Single Soldier Arrested for August 2018 Shooting, Why” – Not A Single Reform Implemented Either

AMBASSADOR BRIAN NICHOLS

By Nomusa Garikai| USA Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian A Nichols expressed his country’s disappointment with the lack of progress by President Mnangagwa’s government failure to hold those responsible for shooting dead 7 civilians and injuring many other in the 1st August 2017 violent crush of street protests.

“President Mnangagwa deserves much credit for inviting former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe to lead a Commission of Inquiry (COI) to investigate the events of that fateful day. Ultimately, the COI produced a thorough report with many sound recommendations that the President announced and unconditionally accepted on December 18, 2018. On January 28, 2019, he formed a special Cabinet task force led by the Justice and Foreign Affairs ministers, specifically tasked to implement these recommendations,” wrote the Ambassador.

“Unfortunately, now over seven months after the Motlanthe report’s release, the government has very little to show in terms of progress. I read as of mid-June that the Ministry of Justice was processing 35 victims’ claims for compensation. While laudable, this should not take so long. I continue to hear about how the police are being “re-equipped” to better deal with demonstrations, as if this was the central lesson learned from the commission’s report. I have yet to learn of a single soldier or security forces member held to account for the deaths of civilians as the report clearly mandated.

“Sadly, the ink was barely dry on the report before the security forces again acted with impunity, killing more civilians in January 2019. Likewise, the government has held no one to account for these deaths either. Equally troubling, Defence deputy minister Victor Matemadanda threatened to use soldiers “trained to kill” against protesters only a few days ago.”

Mr Ambassador, President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF regime have perfected the art of saying what people want to hear whilst the regime continues to do as it pleases. After the November 2017 military coup he and his putsch knew the world was not amused about the coup and so he was quick off the mark to promise free, fair and credible elections. He did not implement even one token reform and went on to blatantly rig the elections.

You are 100% correct, Mr Ambassador, that the regime has dragged its feet as regards implemented the Motlanthe Commission’s recommendations to bring those responsible for the shooting to account.

The regime has also not implemented any of the recommendation of the various election observer teams. After 39 years of rigged elections this is the country’s number one challenge. The only sure way to get the reforms implemented is for the nation to appoint an interim administration tasked to implement the reforms. Zanu PF rigged last year’s election, the party has no mandate to govern, it is illegitimate and should step down to create the space for the interim administration.

If Zanu PF is allowed to stay in office, either on its own or in the new GNU MDC is calling for, we can be 100% certain that no meaningful reforms will be implemented and that Zanu PF will rig the 2023 elections. Besides, Zanu PF insists that last year’s elections were free, fair and credible; proof the regime has no intention of implementing any reforms.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs there will never be any meaningful economic recovery and political stability. No investor wants to do business with a thug and the worsening economic meltdown is socially and politically unsustainable.

The prospect of present economic chaos and suffering continuing for even one more month, much less Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections to extend its corrupt and tyrannical rule, is simply unthinkable! – SOURCE: zsdemocrats.blogspot.com

“I Am Not A Bad Guy”: Chatunga Mugabe

By A Correspondent| Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, son to former President Robert Mugabe, said that he is not the bad guy as some people want to make him appear to be.

Chatunga was recently implicated in a bar brawl with an upcoming female musician. He is accused of having sent assailants to assault Shashl last weekend.

In an interview with Harare tabloid, H-Metro, Chatunga claimed that people are framing him.

He said:

Even if someone says to me ndakauraya munhu its fine. If you go on Internet, I used to spend a day and see nyaya dzinobuda ipapo.

Pane dzimwe nyaya dzinobuda ipapo but I can’t go one by one spending my day, you end up depressed, it’s now a thing I am used to.

You can’t tell everyone, one by one to say no this happened and this didn’t happen.

If people like me, they like me and if they don’t like me, I can’t force them.

I’m not trying to be impressed.

How sad it is. Today, if you were to be my friend, whatever you do you get to be scrutinised, now your family gets scrutinised because you are my friend, that’s a bit unacceptable

That’s is why I got few friends, less than five because no one knows …even if I have a party, they are the only people invited, you can check on the guest list because I don’t have friends.

Those were the only people, I had invited, there were people who were relatives, even if I am in South Africa.

“Gukurahundi Reveals Heart Breaking Tales”: NPRC Commissioner

By A Correspondent| The ongoing National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) public hearings have been characterised by victims of the Gukurahundi genocide expressing their grief and anger over what they experienced and witnessed.

The NPRC was in Entumbane this week, a suburb that witnessed ferocious fighting between Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (Zipra) and Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (Zanla) guerrillas.

The two liberations armies clashed on February 11, 1981, while authorities were in the process of integrating the fighters into the regular army.

Speaking during the NPRC public hearings in Entumbane, this week one of the participants reportedly said:

You are playing and wasting time. For how long must we continue talking about this while you keep on investigating? Is there anyone with doubts that Gukurahundi occurred or anyone who doesn’t know?

The NPRC commissioner responsible for Victim Support, Gender and Diversity, Netty Mushanhu, conceded that people were extremely emotional and angry.

She said:

From our meetings, people have shown that they are extremely emotional and are angry. The meetings taught me that we have left it too long but I think we have an opportunity to engage.

If we don’t do anything about this, we may create a very difficult future for ourselves.

… The stories I heard here are heart-breaking, no one deserves to go through what women went through. A lot of women are afraid to talk about what they have gone through; they fear the unknown and also fear what is known.

I think as a nation; we owe it to our children and ourselves to make sure we have safe spaces for truth-telling. We need to engage with our violent and emotional past.-DailyNews

Like Mnangagwa, Mozambique’s Nyusi’s Name Comes Top On Ballot Paper

The candidate of the ruling Frelimo Party, Filipe Nyusi

Maputo — The candidate of the ruling Frelimo Party, Filipe Nyusi, who is running for a second term of office, will occupy the top position on the ballot paper for the Mozambican presidential election, scheduled for 15 October.

The Constitutional Council, the highest body in matters of constitutional and electoral law, on Thursday, in the presence of representatives of the candidates, drew lots for positions on the ballot paper.

Following Nyusi on the ballot paper will be Daviz Simango, Mayor of Beira, and leader of the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM). In third position will be Ossufo Momade, leader of the former rebel movement Renamo, while the fourth slot will be occupied by Mario Albino of AMUSI (Action of the United Movement for All-round Salvation).

Representatives of Frelimo, the MDM and AMUSI all attended the ceremony, but Renamo did not send anyone. Both the Frelimo and MDM ceremonies expressed satisfaction at their place on the ballot paper, while the AMUSI representative refused to speak to the press.

Meanwhile, Frelimo may be in difficulty with some of its candidates for the provincial assembly elections. Renamo is demanding that the heads of the Frelimo lists (and hence candidates for provincial governor) in four provinces should be disqualified, because they are registered as voters in other provinces. The Frelimo candidates affected are:

1. Judite Massengele, candidate for governor of Niassa province, whom Renamo says is registered in Nampula; 2. Manuel Rodrigues, candidate for governor of Nampula, but registered in Manica; 3. Francisca Tomas, candidate for governor of Manica, but registered in Niassa; 4. Julio Parruque, candidate for governor of Maputo province, but registered in Cabo Delgado.

The law on the election of provincial assemblies states that candidates must be resident in the province, while the law on voter registration states that citizens may only register in the places where they live.

Health Minister’s Daughter Thoroughly Beaten By Chatunga’s Ex-girlfriend

Obadiah Moyo

Health minister Obadiah Moyo’s daughter, Ashleigh, was recently assaulted and left unconscious at a popular Harare night club, Pabloz, by her friend and a South African woman believed to be the girlfriend of former President Robert Mugabe’s son, Chatunga.

Ashleigh Angel Moyo

The friend, Godfrey Utsiwegota (21), appeared before magistrate Learnmore Mapiye yesterday charged with assault. Utsiwegota’s lawyer, Cathew Manyani, filed a complaint against the court officials and police, saying his client was detained at the holding police cells for no apparent reason.

Manyani said it appeared as if there was interference in the matter after his client was released by court officials on Monday at Harare Magistrates Court, only to be called to come to court. The magistrate released Utsiwegota on free bail and remanded the matter to August 15.

It is the State’s case that on July 26 this year at around 11pm, Ashleigh was at Pabloz Night Club recording her music. After recording, she left the club and walked towards her car, but was allegedly punched by Ovio Mgijima, a South African national.

Utsiwegota allegedly joined in and assaulted Moyo until she fell unconscious. A medical report was obtained and will be produced in court as exhibit.

Open Letter To SB Moyo, “Stop The Lobbying And Fix Gross Human Violations At Home”

Let it be on record on the 1st of August 2019 that we stand with our fellow Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe and all over the world who demonstrated against you for being an architect and overseer of anarchy, torture, abduction and murder to sum it up GROSS Human Rights violations.

We write this today, in memory of the victims of the 1st of August 2018 massacre, in which you unleashed the army on innocent civilians, whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right.

We are saddened by your continued lobbying and advocacy for re-engagement when you have not done anything for the people of Zimbabwe so they may enjoy their freedoms as per the constitution. We note your utterances to the effect that you are planning yet another lobbying trip to the USA.

In solidarity with all the oppressed people of Zimbabwe, we want to assure you that we are not going to stand aside and watch you destroy the only land that we call home Zimbabwe.

This lobbying and unnecessary travel at the taxpayers’ expense will not remove the sanctions you imposed on the people of Zimbabwe through gross Human Rights Violations and failure to respect and follow the Zimbabwean constitution, rather the implementation of tasks outlined in the ZIDERA document, which are meant to award Zimbabweans the freedoms that they have not seen in a very long time will expeditiously have the later removed.
We honour the FALLEN HEROES & HEROINES of August the 1st 2018 and many other such cases dating back to the Gukurahundi massacre.

Note that, as Concerned Zimbabwean Citizens, we are promising you that we will engage in all constitutionally guaranteed freedoms within the various provinces of the world, to express the feelings of the OPPRESSED citizens of Zimbabwe and the USA intended visit is not an exception.

We note with great concern, efforts by your fellow anarchists, to muzzle the descending diaspora voice evidenced by your unleashing of Zanu PF BULLIES to publish on the internet propaganda news sights, social media and other forums the names pictures of fellow citizens in the UK to bully them into NOT exercising their constitutional freedoms.

SB Moyo, you lied in the UK when you stated that, no one had been killed during the January 14th, 2019 protests.

You are the architect and overseer of the many cases of ABDUCTIONS, TORTURE, RAPE unleashed again on this very day.

As Concerned Zimbabwean Citizens in the diaspora, we shall continue to protest any Zanu pf government ministers who travel outside of the country to come and engage with other governments.

The Zanu pf government needs to engage with Zimbabweans first on what happened during Gukurahundi, 2008 killings, Elections of 2018 and the killings of August 1st, 2018 and January 14th, 2019.

To our departed friends we say, may they continue to rest in eternal peace.

Concerned Zimbabwean Citizens.

Nakamba The Biggest Thing Out Of Hwange,Villagers Demand A Statue For Him.

Marvellous Nakamba

His rural home is Dinde about 35km from Hwange town, under Chief Nekatambe.

Zimbabwe Summons US Ambassador Over Sanctions On Anselem Sanyatwe.

Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda (left) confers the rank to Presidential Guard commander Major-General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday summoned the Ambassador of the United States of America Brian Nichols to express Zimbabwe’s displeasure over the imposition of sanctions on the country’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Tanzania Lt General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe.

In a statement issued on Friday the Ministry said, “The decision by Washington is regrettable as it comes at a time that government is intensifying the implementation of political and economic reforms including the Motlanthe Commission’s recommendations.”

When is An Employer Liable for their Worker’s Facebook Post?

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

By Muchie Shamuyarira| In the UK, the Employment Appeal Tribunal(EAT) recently found that Heathrow Airport was not liable for an employee’s racially offensive Facebook post. The decision in the case all came down to timing and circumstance, according to Hannah Ball.

Could a discriminatory Facebook post made by an employee land a company in hot water? The recent case of Forbes v London Heathrow Airport considered just this point. Mr Forbes worked as security officer at the airport. One of his colleagues, Ms Stevens, shared a racist image on her own Facebook page outside her normal working hours, together with the message “let’s see how far he can travel before Facebook takes him off”.

That image was shared with Ms Stevens’ Facebook friends, including another colleague, who subsequently showed it to Mr Forbes, and it caused Mr Forbes offence. As a result, Mr Forbes complained to his line manager and then raised a grievance, while Ms Stevens was subjected to a disciplinary investigation, during which she appeared remorseful and offered an apology. At the end of the disciplinary process, Ms Stevens was issued with a final written warning.

After the incident, when Mr Forbes and the employee were scheduled to work together, he complained to Heathrow Airport and, as a result, was moved to work at a different location without explanation. He then went off sick and later brought claims of harassment and race discrimination against his employer relying, in part, on the discriminatory Facebook post.

When was the post made?

A tribunal determined that posting the image on Facebook was not done ‘in the course of employment’ and so the claim was dismissed. It also held that the image was posted privately, not on a work computer and was circulated only amongst Ms Stevens’ friends, which did not include Mr Forbes. Furthermore, the post made no mention of Heathrow or any of Ms Stevens’ colleagues. However, Mr Forbes appealed to the EAT. The EAT dismissed Mr Forbes’ appeal. The EAT found that sharing an image on Facebook could, dependent on the facts of the case, be found to be done in the course of employment.

The EAT gave an example of where the Facebook page is solely or principally used for the purpose of work, however that was not true of the present case.

The EAT agreed with the initial tribunal. It held that whether something is done “in the course of employment” is a question of fact and the words should be interpreted in a way that a lay person would understand. It held that a lay person would not consider that sharing an image on a private Facebook page, with a list of friends that largely did not include colleagues, was done in the course of employment.

Even though the image was shown to Mr Forbes by a colleague, this did not deter from whether this was done in the course of employment, so it was right that the initial tribunal focused on the timing of the image being shared. The EAT did note that the act of showing the image to Mr Forbes at work could have been regarded as “in the course of employment”, but this was not how the claim was presented by Mr Forbes. What should employers be aware of?

The EAT did make it clear that it was not possible to lay down any hard or fast guidance on when posts would be deemed to be in the course of employment, especially given that the use of social media platforms continues to increase, and it would be a question of fact in each case. However, the EAT did helpfully confirm that where an employer considers it appropriate to take action against employees for making discriminatory posts, that in itself will not mean that the conduct complained of is done in the course of employment. It gave the example of an employee chanting racist slogans at a football match: that could, in no way, be seen as being done in the course of an employee’s employment but the employer may still wish to address the behaviour with the employee due to reputational issues.

Employees are also reminded that any disciplinary action taken against may lead to further regulatory referral processes depending on each case, for example , Nursing Midwifery Council in the case of Nursing staff etc. And while the EAT did make it clear that it is not possible to lay down any hard or fast guidance, this decision still provides useful guidance for employers about when social media posts may be deemed to be in the course of employment. So even though each case will be determined on its own facts, it would appear that usually there would need to be a connection between the social media account and the employer or a group of work colleagues. It is also a useful reminder that employers can, dependent on the circumstances, be held liable for the actions of their employees including posts made on social media.

The EAT’s comments about the disciplinary action taken by the employer not being determinative of the issue, are also helpful.

People Just Don’t Like Me, Chatunga.

 ‌

Former President Robert Mugabe’s last born son Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe has opened up lamenting that he receives a lot of hate from people, most of whom, he has never met in person.

Chatunga who has a reputation as a party animal and bad boy said that he had very few friends as a result because people associated with him end up getting a lot of public scrutiny.

In an interview with Takawira “Photovet” Dapi of H-Metro, Chatunga said,

Even if someone says to me ndakauraya munhu its fine. If you go on the internet, I used to spend a whole day and reading nyaya dzinobuda ipapo.

Pane dzimwe nyaya dzinobuda ipapo but I can’t spend my day going through the stories, you end up depressed, it’s now a thing I am used to.

You can’t tell everyone, one by one to say no this happened and this didn’t happen. If people like me, they like me and if they don’t like me, I can’t force them…I’m not trying to impress.

How sad it is. Today, if you were to be my friend, whatever you do you are scrutinised, your family gets scrutinised because you are my friend, that’s a bit unacceptable.

That’s is why I have a few friends, less than five because no one knows…even if I have a party, they are the only people invited. You can check on the guest list because I don’t have friends.

Those were the only people, I had invited. Some people were relatives, even if I am in South Africa.

Latest: Zimbabwe Is No Longer Open For Business, Mnangagwa

President Mnangagwa

Zimbabwe welcomes foreign investors into the country but will not accept investments that come with conditions attached.

This was said by President Mnangagwa after taking part in the national clean-up campaign at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre today.

He said there must be unity and peace among Zimbabweans if the country was to develop.

“We want a better future we want the next generation to live a better life than ourselves and to do so the current generation, united as a country as a people we put our heads together and shoulders on the wheel to develop, to modernise, to industrialise our country,” President Mnangagwa said.

“We can do that and achieve that on our own depending on our resources but alas the pace at which we develop would be very slow that’s why we have said Zimbabwe is open for business in order to attract foreign direct investment into the country and assist us to develop the various sectors of the economy agriculture, mining tourism, manufacturing, infrastructure development and ICTs.

“But when FDIs come into the country it must come at the dictates of ourselves no political ties, no conditions. The conditions should only be those which ourselves want and this can only be achieved if we remain united, when we remain peaceful, when each one of us strives to do one’s best in whatever they are doing.”

He said Government had embarked on the re-engagement process so that the country re-joins the community of nations.

JUST IN – Zim Govt Summons US Ambassador Over 45 Degree Soldier Sanyatwe

The Zimbabwe government has summoned United States of America’s Ambassador, Brian Nichols, over a travel ban imposed on the country’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Lt General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe. FULL TEXT:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs a. International Trade on 2 August 2019 summoned the Ambassador of the United States of America to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Brian Nichols. He met the Secretary for Foreign Affairs a. International Trade, Ambassador James Manzou.

The purpose of the summons was to express the displeasure of the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe over the public designation of His Excellency Lieutenant General (Rtd) Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe, current Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-designate to the United Republic of Tanzania, and former Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army’s Presidential Guard Brigade, by the US Secretary of State. Michael Pompeo, under Section 7031(c) of the FY 2019 Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act (Div.E,P.L.116.6), allegedly for gross violations of human rights relating to the August 1, 2018 post-election incident.

The decision by Washington is regrettable as it comes at a time that Government is intensifying the implementation of political and economic reforms including the Motlanthe Commission’s Report recommendations. This runs counter to the spirit a. substance of re-engagement. These sovereign processes must be allowed to conclude.

That notwithstanding. the Government of Zimbabwe will continue with its Reform Agenda and its efforts on engagement and re-engagement, in pursuit of the national vision of making Zimbabwe an Upper Middle Income Country by 2030.

Zimbabweans To Feel The Pinch As Power Costs Shoot Up

Picture: Pexels.

Zimbabwe’s finance minister has more than doubled the cost of power.

The country has been facing chronic power shortages since May and daily blackouts last for up to 18 hours in most areas.

In a mid-term budget review, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube hiked the price of power, from 10 cents per kilowatt hour to 27 cents.

That’s for farmers and ordinary households.

Miners and exporters will have to settle their electricity bills in US dollars, at a rate of between six and nine US cents per kilowatt hour.

The state power company had been pushing for an upward review of its prices to help it remain viable.

The higher power costs will have an impact on shop prices and the wallets of hard-pressed Zimbabweans.

Though it remains to be seen whether the adjustments will do anything to ease severe load shedding.

Mudenda Withdraws MDC Parliamentarian Allowances Over Boycott Of Budget Seating

Jacob Mudenda

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda has ruled that parliament will not pay MDC parliamentarians for Thursday’s seating after they boycotted the presentation of the complementary budget which was attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Ruling on a submission by ZANU PF parliamentarian Joseph Chinotimba, Mudenda condemned the opposition parliamentarians for continuously resisting Mnangagwa.

Chinotimba’s said:

“My point of privilege is that every time and then when the Zimbabwe President who resoundingly won the election in 2018 is coming into this august House, Members of the opposition walk out or abscond and yet the next day they will come here demanding cars from Parliament of which the money is being availed by the President of the country.”

“So, my point of  privilege is that there is supposed to be an order that says that if a Member of Parliament engages in a mass demonstration which is what they have done right now, it is a mass demonstration not coming into Parliament.  They should not absent themselves when the President is coming.  It does not pay for us to say we have a country and yet we are taking this country for granted.”

“If they have a problem with the President, they should go to the courts.  When we are in Parliament, we should do our Parliamentary duties.”

Below is Mudenda’s full ruling on the matter:

“It is unfortunate that the Hon. Members of the main opposition party here in Parliament have decided to boycott this session in which His Excellency the President will be in attendance.  There are two issues that we need to put on record.  The first one is that His Excellency the President is Head of State and Government and Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces.

Now, there is some lack of understanding when we say the President is Head of State.  The President is Head of State because he is an embodiment of the sovereignty of the people of Zimbabwe without any exclusion or discrimination.  His uncontested position as Head of State has been recognised by the United Nations and the International Community, let alone the African Union.  We have not heard of any country under the sun that has not recognised His Excellency President Mnangagwa.  So therefore, there is misdirection in terms of the opposition in their unwarranted behaviour.

Secondly, in terms of section 116 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe which I shall quote, the Legislature of Zimbabwe consists of Parliament and the President acting in accordance with the Constitution, which means His Excellency the President institutionally is part of this august House and that position has got to be respected and cannot be contested.

Accordingly, as head of this institution, I rule that the Hon. Members from the opposition shall not be allowed to attend Parliament today, including after his Excellency has gone. Relatedly, their allowances for today shall not be paid accordingly, so I have ruled.

Manchester United Agrees £80 Million Deal For Maguire

Manchester United have agreed an £80m deal to sign Leicester defender Harry Maguire, according to Sky sources.

The deal is subject to a medical and would eclipse the current world-record £75m Liverpool paid for a defender when they bought Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

Maguire is now set to discuss personal terms with United, who are set to beat rivals Manchester City to his signature.

Speaking to The Transfer Showyesterday, Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett said: “I’ve always been told throughout this process that £80m was the magic figure for Leicester to do business. It seems as though United are prepared to go there so this could happen quite quickly.”

England international Maguire, who phoned in sick for training on Monday, has four years left on his contract and Leicester’s position all summer has been that he is not for sale.

Dambudzo Regime Does Not Value Human Life

One Year Later, the struggle for the Zimbabwe we want continues unabated.

Today marks a sad one year commemoration of the brutal, callous and devilishly senseless murder seven civilians in cold blood, all in a bid supress fundamental rights by the Dambudzo regime.

Bvondo

Why Nakamba Deal Took Long

Farai Dziva|The confirmation of Marvelous Nakamba’s move to Aston Villa took longer than expected and the reasons for that delay have been revealed.

Aston Villa announced Nakamba yesterday much to the delight of both local and the club ‘s faithful and according to The Herald, negotiations regarding financial terms and returns for the player and his handlers delayed the deal.

The publication further revealed that the amount  Villa paid for Nakamba, a reported £12 million, was purely a transanction between the two clubs and no part of that amount was reserved for the player and his representatives, meaning they had to negotiate that with Villa before the deal was made official.

The general norm that a player gets 10% of his transfer fee was not applied in this instance.

VP Mohadi said the revival follows the dissolving of the old board by President Mnangagwa, who subsequently appointed seasoned business people and experienced professionals, carefully selected from the country’s 10 provinces.

“Today marks a major milestone in the resuscitation of the DTZ since His Excellency, President Mnangagwa appointed me as chairperson,” he said.

“The provincial representation (of board members) is meant to ensure that Zimbabweans from all parts of Zimbabwe have a chance to benefit from work and output of DTZ which is a national asset with great economic and social development potential through its business entities whose flagship is Nuanetsi Ranch limited.

“Nuanetsi Ranch and other DTZ entities have suddenly come alive. I can confidentially inform the Zimbabwean nation that, DTZ which had fallen into slumber into over the years has been resuscitated. The economic and social development giant has awakened,” he said.

VP Mohadi also activated the work committees of the trust and ensured that they shared the trust’s objectives.

“DTZ sub-committees are entrusted in carrying out work of the trust in-between meetings of the trust and work towards achieving the objectives of the DTZ. These objectives will be shared among the three committees that we have set using the mandatory of each committee as reflected in the attached documents entitled implementation and achievement of DTZ objectives as articulated in the trust.

“The rational of sharing the objectives was the key functions of each committee which are executive, finance and human resources, and the business collaboration, legal and marketing functions.

Sikhala Files Mega-Money Lawsuit Against Police

MDC vice-chairman Job Sikhala, who was allegedly abducted from Harare Central Police Station after his arrest on charges of subverting a constitutionally-elected government, is now suing the police for acting unlawfully and unconstitutionally.

Sikhala, through his lawyers Koto and Company, has initiated a $3 million lawsuit against Home Affairs minister Cain Mathema, Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and Superintendent Daniel Joseph of Harare Law and Order section.

“We write to you at the instance of our client (Sikhala) hereby providing you with notice of intention to institute legal proceedings against yourself, within 60 days from date of this letter as defined in terms of section 5 of the State Liabilities Act,” Sikhala’s lawyers wrote.

The lawyers said after Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi had granted his consent to have Sikhala appear before a Harare court, the police abducted him and locked his lawyers in police cells, thereby blocking them access to him.

“Despite the consent having been obtained, the police officers, including Superintendent Daniel Joseph, locked the team of lawyers who were in the company of our client, Tendai Biti and Innocent Gonese, inside cells of Harare Central (Police Station) and refused to give them access to our client, when Joseph dragged and smuggled our client out of Harare Central Police Station,” the lawyers said.

Sikhala alleged in his letter that he suffered insults, dehumanising treatment and a sense of shock from the actions of the police while he was blindfolded and suffering unbearable pain.

“Our client was tortured and experienced an aggravated and deliberate form of inhuman or degrading treatment. Severe pain, suffering both physically and
mentally, was intentionally inflicted upon him. He was insulted and threatened, which diminished his human dignity and aroused feelings of fear, anguish or inferiority capable of breaking his morale,” the letter read.

Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital operations are being hampered to the extent of losing patients as a result of load-shedding by ZESA.

… Power cuts are causing increased risk to lives of such patients and sometimes even loss of life.

Chinhoyi provincial hospital has 422 beds and relies on two standby generators. However, the generators often break down and require 300 litres of diesel daily to run them.

Mawire also revealed that the hospital is understaffed, having 79 nurses out of an ideal complement of 350, while there are five specialist doctors out of a possible 10.

Sanctions Against Sanyatwe Anger Zim Govt

State Media: Government has criticised the placement on sanctions of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-designate to Tanzania, Anselem Sanyatwe, and his wife Ms Chido Machona, by the United States on allegations that the former violated human rights.

Sanyatwe is a former Commander of the Presidential Guard.

According to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana, the establishment of the Motlante Commission showed that there was nothing to hide.

“The Motlanthe Commission worked in full of view of the public and had its hearings televised and run on different live platforms as the State showed it had nothing to hide. No one was made immune to its subpoena,” Mr Nick Mangwana, the Secretary for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, noted in a statement last night.

“When the report of the Commission came out, President Mnangagwa made it public and constituted a Cabinet Committee on Reform to see through the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission as well as other reforms such as Election Observers Missions’ reports,” reads the statement.

Government says this was done in the interest of transparency and justice.

The process of the hearings at the Commission had an important role as a truth-telling exercise.

“It is no doubt that President Mnangagwa marshalled the country through this tragic but fleeting phase, with long-term benefits of peace that no one today can deny.

“We, therefore, take serious umbrage at the posturing of some foreign powers who have taken it upon themselves to invoke actions that are clearly out of sync with the spirit and letter of the Commission whose work was public and credible,” Mr Mangwana said in reference to the US.

Zanu PF Youth Leader Bashed For Corruption, Sexual Abuse

Knives are out against Zanu PF Masvingo youth league boss Brian Munyoro who was last week beaten up by a group of local and Harare-based youths who accused him of corruption, sexual abuse and personalising party property.

Zanu PF national youth league political commissar Godfrey Tsenengamu led a group of Zanu PF youths from Harare for an outreach in Masvingo.

Munyoro with President Mnangagwa

The outreach was met with little success after Munyoro reportedly snubbed the meetings in the wards and failed to mobilise party supporters to attend as a way of sabotaging Tsenengamu’s work.

Sources said during one of the meetings at Roger Howman Training Centre, some youths seized Munyoro’s car keys and cell phones while others beat him up.

TellZim News established that the some members of the Masvingo provincial youth league are unhappy with Munyoro’s leadership but no one had the guts to stand up to him until they formed an alliance with the visiting Harare youths to humiliate him.

When contacted for comment, Munyoro said the youths who demonstrated against him were just jealous and are fabricating stories to try and soil his name.

“It all happened in full glare of our leadership and they are all aware of what happened. I now wait to hear from them on the course of action to be taken against the culprits.

“They are just people who are jealous of my life and will do anything to soil my name. I have not done anything wrong but I have remained focused in supporting and building our party even during the time when we were vilified for being Lacoste members,” said Munyoro.

Youths who spoke to TellZim News accused Munyoro of being a sexual predator who abused women under his ranks.

“We want him to go and we will not rest until he is send packing. We want leadership which is exemplary not what we are seeing in Munyoro.

“He has bedded many women under his rank by abusing his powers and the car which the party gave him. Last week in Chiredzi he tried the same tricks on one of the ladies but he was turned down. He then tried to force himself on the lady but he failed.

“He uses the party vehicle as his bedroom and that must stop. The vehicle he drives belongs to the party yet he personalises it. We heard a lot of reports about him and we decided to act because the youth here are afraid of him,” said one youth from Harare.

The youth league accuses Munyoro of stealing over 3 000 litres of fuel which had been donated for party programmes.

“Masvingo got 4 000 litres of fuel to do party programmes and Munyoro converted 3 000 litres to personal use and declared only 1 000 litres,” claims one youth.

Other sources said Munyoro was dictatorial in his leadership approach, accusing him of stripping other league leaders of their powers.

“He does everything himself. He is now the chairperson, the treasurer, the spokesperson and the commissar of the whole province. He personalises power and all other elected members have been rendered irrelevant. He is also abusing his power to sleep with all the girls,” complained a source.

Another youth league member, however, defended Munyoro saying the fight was simply a manifestation of factionalism in the youth league.

“There are bigger divisions in the league and Munyoro is just a victim. They are jealousy of his success and the big car he is driving?” said the member.

Zanu PF national youth league boss Pupurai Togarepi could not be reached for comment as his mobile went unanswered.

Addictive Woman Stays With Two Boyfriends In Same House, Non Wanted To Let Her Go

It is our first time to hear about it and we do not know how she managed to do that, maybe she used juju”, said a bewildered man who only identified himself as Sibanda.

A source close to this issue spoke on condition of anonymity: “I used to live close to them and it was just weird to witness Mangwende staying with the two men. I cannot even say they were desperate for shelter because they both work.”

The Maphisa woman’s case comes hot on the heels of another similar case in which a woman from Lupane left her community shocked last month after it emerged she was married to two men and had children with both of them.

Ms Siphathisiwe Mkandla (48) of Manansa Village in Malunku ward cohabited with Mr John Mpala (55) and Mr Dolete Mlotshwa for the past three years.

Mr Mpala collapsed and died at their matrimonial home in June after complaining of chest pains and was buried at his uncle’s homestead in Sindombe area in the same ward. Mr Mlotshwa is a gold panner in Inyathi.

Parents Fight USD Charging School

Disgruntled parents of children at Goldridge College, an upmarket private college in Kwekwe, are suing the school for allegedly demanding tuition fees and outstanding balances in United State Dollars (USD) despite Government abolishing the use of the multi-currency regime.

In their application to the High Court, the parents Stanley Makunde, Tichafa Chiwanza and Livious Mukwiri, accused the school and its Board of Governors of defying a Government directive by continuing to demand payment in United States dollars.

The college is allegedly asking parents whose children have been offered Form One places next year to pay US$500 in Development levies.

The parents alleged that the children whose parents were defaulting were being sent home by the school authorities.

ED Takes Clean-UP Campaign To Mt Pleasant

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa will today head for Ashbrittle Shopping Centre in Mt Pleasant for this month’s clean up exercise, as Government intensifies efforts to build sustainable environmental management and waste disposal systems.

The President last year declared the first Friday of each month as the National Environment Cleaning Day when all citizens are supposed to clean their surroundings between 8am and 10am.

Presidential spokesperson Mr George Charamba confirmed the President’s event for today.

“The President is heading for Ashbrittle Shopping Centre in Mt Pleasant tomorrow (today) for this month’s clean-up exercise which will start in the morning,” he said.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi will be in Beitbridge for the same exercise.

Acting Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu said the clean-up exercise was a noble and brilliant vision by President Mnangagwa.

He called on Zimbabweans from all walks of life to join hands in the initiative.

“I urge the nation to rally behind this brilliant and noble vision by the President of Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We should all embrace it and join hands in this exercise.

“Let us all clean-up our environs wherever we are. A clean environment is a healthy environment for everyone. As you all know, the President launched this brilliant initiative last year in December and this is the 9th month into it and already our country is getting cleaner by each day, this is commendable.”

Launching the campaign on December 5 last year, President Mnangagwa stressed the importance of unity and harmony to keep the environment clean.

“The world we live in is deteriorating rapidly due to the dire consequences of climate change which manifest as floods, heat waves, diseases, water and air pollution, land degradation and desertification, among other challenges,” he  said.

“These developments require us to take bold and decisive action with regards to the management of our environment of ensuring a clean environment. We need to keep our villages, towns and cities clean and hygienic, both for this generation and generations to come.

“We must, therefore, be re-oriented to practice good environmental and waste management through increased advocacy, education, training and awareness. We must do this from a place of pride not just a necessity.”

Sanyatwe Sanctions Anger Zim Govt

GOVERNMENT has criticised the placement on sanctions of Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-designate to Tanzania, Anselem Sanyatwe, and his wife Ms Chido Machona, by the United States on allegations that the former violated human rights.

Ambassador Sanyatwe is a former Commander of the Presidential Guard.

The US seeks to apportion blame on Government security forces for the death of six people during opposition-instigated violence on August 1 last year, which was orchestrated to delegitimise the outcome of the harmonised elections which President Mnangagwa and the ruling Zanu-PF party won favourably.

The polls had won lots of praise from observer missions and other stakeholders for their peaceful and orderly conduct before opposition MDC-Alliance supporters unleashed mayhem following threats by the party’s leader, Mr Nelson Chamisa, and others that they would not accept defeat.

However, President Mnangagwa instituted an international panel of experts to inquire into the incident and has since been implementing its recommendations, including reform, retraining and upskilling of the police service, the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

Government said while it was pursuing a policy of re-engagement and rapprochement with some members of the international community, this should not be construed as appeasement.

“We, therefore, take serious umbrage at the posturing of some foreign powers who have taken it upon themselves to invoke actions that are clearly out of sync with the spirit and letter of the Commission whose work was public

and credible,” Mr Mangwana said in reference to the US.

“These powers have arrogated themselves power beyond our processes and in this context a Zimbabwean diplomat and his family has been placed under sanctions for ostensibly violating human rights in relation to the events of August 1, 2018,” said Government.

Government says its position is that sanctions imposed on the country are illegal and “any escalation of the same is counterproductive”.

President Mnangagwa has adopted a policy of rapprochement towards countries with whom Zimbabwe has endured bad relations over the past two decades.

However, Government said the rapprochement policy was not “a policy of appeasement”, saying the principles of equality, sovereignty and self-determination in statecraft should be respected.

“We therefore wish to place on record our strong displeasure of actions to undermine Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and condemn posturing meant to fan divisions rather than initiate national healing and understanding,” said Government.

MDC Legislators Freedom Bid Delayed

JUDGMENT in a case in which MDC Alliance legislators, Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo) and Lloyd Mukapiko (Redcliff), who are accused of public violence and inciting mayhem during the January fuel price hike protests, was on Wednesday deferred to August 9.

The legislators are on ZWL$300 bail each, which was handed by Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese after Kwekwe magistrate Story Rushambwa denied them their liberty.

Rushambwa was yesterday expected to deliver judgment after both the State, led by prosecutor Yeukai Mugumba and the defence, led by Wellington Davira, closed
their cases last month.

MDC supporters from both Redcliff and Mbizo constituencies had thronged the courts to hear the much-awaited verdict.

“I still need more time to study the submissions by both the State and defence and so the matter is deferred to August 9, 2019,” the magistrate ruled.

Sikhala Hits Back Over Abduction, Torture While In Custody

By A Correspondent- MDC vice-chairman Job Sikhala, who was allegedly abducted from Harare Central Police Station after his arrest on charges of subverting a constitutionally-elected government, is now suing the police for acting unlawfully and unconstitutionally.

Severe pain, suffering both physically and mentally, was intentionally inflicted upon him. He was insulted and threatened, which diminished his human dignity and aroused feelings of fear, anguish or inferiority capable of breaking his morale,” the letter read.
