Landmark Ruling, Woman Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Raping Ten Year Old Boy

JOHANNESBURG. – A KwaZulu-Natal woman who raped her 10-year-old cousin on multiple occasions has been sentenced to life imprisonment, police say.

The Eshowe Regional Court convicted and sentenced the 30-year-old women on Tuesday, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said on Wednesday morning.

“The court heard how she raped a boy last year at Maqhakaza area, Eshowe.”

Zwane said the arrest would send a strong message to others “who might be involved in such criminal activities”.

He said the boy was raped on August 24, last year, after the woman was invited to a birthday party of the survivor’s younger brother in Maqhwakazi.

“After the party, family members, the victim and the accused went to sleep in a rondavel house. In the middle of the night, the accused was caught raping a 10-year-old boy inside the rondavel,” Zwane said.

He added: “When the boy was questioned about rape, he told his mother that he was raped twice before by the same accused.”

Zwane said a case of rape was then opened at Eshowe police station.

“After an intensive investigation by our experienced Eshowe Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit members, the accused was arrested the following month and was charged for rape.”

Khupe’s Executive Threatens To Resign En-masse In Solidarity With Linda

Thokozani Khupe

Media Statement|MDC-T Mashonaland Central Provincial Executive Committee has learnt with great shock about the expulsion of leader Linda Masarira who was the National Spokesperson.

As a province which believes in her able and capable leadership, we continue to stand with Cde. Masarira as she has been the only one truly concerned about the Mashonaland Central Province.

We have agreed as Mashonaland Central Province that we will resign en masse and follow Leader Masarira who is the only National Leader who was always in the province and guiding us on the way forward.

We believe in unity and tolerance and the expulsion of Leader Masarira based on images which circulated on social media of her donning Zanu PF regalia is unprogressive and a sign of political immaturity.

We unconditionally stand with Masarira during this moment recognizing her for having tirelessly shielded the party through thick and thin. She has consistently and visibly served as the voice of the Party from the date she assumed office. We will gladly follow her where she is going.

Dear Editor: Opposition Party Leaders Make Their Supporters Poorer

Abigale Mupambi

By ABIGALE MUPAMBI |TODAY let me attempt to unpack the untold reality; the untold truth , Remember that facts are stubborn, so bear with me. The good about the truth is that it sets the people free.

It maybe a painful injection never to be disguised as a lollipop but the sick will be healed.

There is a deliberate and artificial confusion to often align or bunch partisan and government agendas in one cooler box. The major risk caused by this misinformation and concoction has rendered the opposition followers vulnerable.

Here in Zimbabwe we are blessed with a ‘vibrant’ opposition movement that is driving democratic Agenda and the hopes for many are banked around this . The painful reality to note is that loyalists are fast drowning into abject poverty and misery day in, and day out as they wait for the “democratic” dawn.

Name a single opposition that has in the past or is presently encouraging its supporters to participate in government projects that can benefit them or at least economically empowering them by its own efforts.

Which opposition movement encouraged its supporters to benefit from government projects? Rather, there has been all sorts of political speeches made so that the people shy away from national programs that benefit them.

The Case of the Land reform:

The local opposition movement denied its supporters their right as Zimbabweans to own land by fooling the innocent supporters that the land redistribution program was rather a ZANU PF program than a national program. The opposition propaganda detached its supporters from their own entitlement.

In the political philosophy of the opposition, 4000 whites deserved to own land while majority of their supporters were to remain in the towns and over populated arid, infertile soils. Alas! Are they not Zimbabwean children who deserve to own land and make production from that land.

After all they pay tax just like everyone else but they are told not to partake in what is rightfully theirs. I realise that in all efforts to support what they believe to be a noble cause a significant part of the populace have been hoodwinked. All government programmes meant for the women and youths empowerment are labelled Zanu PF projects and forbidden fruits.

Take the inventory for yourself and see how many ‘opposition’ leaders have the farms they denied their supporters. How many are in business with those they call enemies. Whose trucks haul Gushungo Dairy products? How many are always knocking at the State Procurement Boards doors looking for business? Yet they misled the majority into the thick forest of abject poverty.

There is nothing wrong in opposing or being an opposition supporter but there is everything wrong in opposing and misleading the members to reject their stake in government programs.

Members are misguided till they forfeit their rightful benefits in the name of opposition. The level of hypocrisy and propaganda is highly toxic and demonic.

The dilemma is yet to come when my fellow colleagues will realize that even in the aftermath of the opposition forming Government through the grace of God, there will be no room whatsoever to start a new land reform targeting the them.

What it literary means is that some of us will remain poor even if the opposition is to govern today should we remain blindly shunning development opportunities around us as a way of demonstrating loyalty to the opposition.

It has to be noted clearly that partaking in developmental programs of your country and being a beneficiary of such will not usurp anyone’s political attachment to their political party, instead that makes you a complete citizen. It is the government that had the obligation to meet all socio-economic needs of its people.

What kind of struggle really that won’t let the people to become self sufficient and develop themselves by taking up available opportunities! It is evil to subject people to poverty, through making them victims of a political game of allegiance to political party opinions when the ruling party and in particular opposition leaders team up in in taking developmental programs.

Do their followers realise that the so called opposition movements are abusing their blind supporters to amass wealth for themselves while their supporters remain poor.

I attended many rallies in the past where the leaders for opposition movements tell people to shy away from government initiatives and programmes that are meant to benefit them. Such actions are driving the poor men further and further into the doldrums of poverty.

Today its a taboo in the opposition for an ordinary member to announce that they have land, to be known that you got a government scholarship, its even worse when you are known to be chasing the women or youth loans that are availed under the respective ministries.

Once caught in these genuine attempts to partake of the right empowerment, you gain yourself the unpopular name “mutengesi”. This has been a major tool used to demonise, brainwash and drive away citizens from a reasonable livelihood.

Now the reality of extreme frustration manifests itself in the emotional and violent way our fellow colleagues are intolerant and use hate speech and insults as a smoke from a cigarette of bitterness.

Productive time is substituted by addictive social media activism in their bid to display or sell their support of their leaders. Its beyond a democratic cause to them, its indeed a do or die play. Intolerance dominates ,they seem to be growing anger with everyone.

One way or the other l understand them ,they are my fellow colleagues. They are waiting for the rains ” yet the rains are there” Cry my beloved motherland.

These group of people suffer from a double capture if l may borrow their rhetoric, the internal capture is deadly let’s win that first ,19 years of paying tax and fleeing away from your direct benefits is not a joke.

What have you become in the name of opposition politics…a charity case. We need progressive opposition politics .

Abigale Mupambi is the leader of the newly established Civil Society and Churches Convergence which has been giving Emmerson Mnangagwa a huge civil society backing.

Zim Man Wins R12mil Lottery Jackpot In S.A

By Own Correspondent- A Zimbabwean man who has been living in South Africa for the last 10 years on Wednesday won 12 million Rand in a national lottery jackpot, Ithuba.

The man who grew up in abject poverty back home decided to try his luck for a second time after he won nothing at the first attempt.

After winning the lottery, the 34-year-old man said he would renovate his family home in Zimbabwe, buy himself a house and car, and invest the rest of the money.

He said:

“A few weeks ago, I decided to give lotto a try for the first time and I won just over R200. I decided to play again. I did not think much about the numbers, I just randomly selected them.

I could not believe it when I learnt that I had a winning ticket. I won R12m!

My parents passed away when I was still very young and my sister had to step in as a mother figure to my siblings and me. Growing up in a child-headed home was tough – the poverty just never improved.

When I was in my early twenties, my friend who was already living and working in Durban suggested that I come to look for work in South Africa to help ease my circumstances at home. I stayed in Durban for five years and during that time I worked a lot of different casual and domestic jobs.

One of the companies I worked for in Durban recognised my hard work and offered me a permanent job at their head office in Johannesburg.

This move changed my life. I was able to rent a decent place and was able to help my family back home to have food on the table every day. I thought that my life could not get better than that.”-SowetanLive

Full Text: ‘Presidium’ Member Almost Died in Mutare

By Farai Maguwu| Sickness is not a crime but …..if one is terminally ill they should step down from public office and concentrate on their health.

So this VVVVVVIP Came to Mutare to proceed to Chimanimani to inspect the impact of Cyclone Idai. He spent the night at Golden Peacock Hotel and in the morning as delegates prepared to go to Aerodrome to take the flight to Chimanimani he didnt appear from his room. An emergency situation was declared. Local Doctors were rushed to Golden Peacock since the South African and Indian Doctors would need hours and days to reach Mutare respectively.

For about 2 hours doctors battled to resuscitate him and thankfully or whatever you feel, he regained consciousness. Am told Doctors had very mixed feelings when he popped open his eyes.

Here we are beloved Africa. We have leaders sitting in the departure lounge clinging to power when their minds are firmly fixed on their next destinations. Its no surprise most of them take thousands with them as African leaders naturally prefer large delegations when they travel.

Leading a nation is a huge responsibility which requires one to work 16 – 18 hours a day. This means one must be fit, both physically and mentally. People who are in and out of hospital must NOT be in public Office. Respect to the Algerian people for forcing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to resign on medical grounds and his advanced age.

Farai Dziva|MDC T president Thokozani Khupe who fired party spokesperson Linda Masarira for wearing a wrapping cloth bearing Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s face today accompanied the Zanu PF leader to Manicaland in a State helicopter.

In a picture circulating on social media, Khupe is seen ensconced in the helicopter accompanying Mnangagwa to Manicaland.

Masarira Attacks Khupe Over Expulsion

By Own Correspondent- Former MDC-T spokesperson Linda Masarira who was recently fired from her party led by Dr Thozokani Khupe for wearing a Zanu Pf wrapping has attacked her former boss likening him to MDC leader Nelson Chamisa.

Masarira accused Khupe and Chamisa of disregarding party Constitutions.

She said:

In terms of constitutionalism, the difference is the same. They [Chamisa and Khupe] both indicate left and turn right. We have a mammoth task to ensure constitutionalism at all levels in our country.

Being expelled for tying a mere piece of Zanu PF cloth is the highest level of mediocrity which I will not dwell upon as I have better things to focus on as national development issues for the prosperity and posterity of this nation.

I am not going to join any political party rather its time to put my vision into action. I am a visionary with a vision for a united, tolerant and democratic Zimbabwe.

Masarira was on Wednesday shown the exit door by Khupe after she was pictured wearing ZANU PF regalia at a rural function.

The Khupe-led MDC was worried that Masarira’s indiscretions will give traction to the view held by some that MDC-T is a mere appendage of ZANU PF.

Mudzuri, Mwonzora Plot To Oust Chamisa Revealed?

Farai Dziva|MDC A vice president Elias Mudzuri and Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora are clandestinely working with the party leadership in Masvingo to remove Nelson Chamisa from the presidency, party sources have said.

Impeccable sources have exclusively revealed to ZimEye.com Mwonzora and Mudzuri took full advantage of the clash between Chamisa and Masvingo provincial chairperson James Chafungamoyo Gumbi to advance their political ambitions.

Gumbi, who has been supporting Chamisa for the presidency switched camp after being embarrassed by the youthful leader at a provincial council meeting at Mucheke Hall in Masvingo two weeks ago.

Gumbi is unhappy with the fact that Chamisa undressed him during a provincial council meeting at Mucheke Hall two weeks ago.

“What we are looking at is that the Gumbi faction is no longer supporting the president.Surprisingly the team is leading the race in the province.

We are also investigating sources of intimidation and violence,” said the sources.

Linda Masarira was sacked for wearing a wrapping cloth bearing Emmerson Mnangagwa’s face.

Mwonzora: “Chamisa Must Support Me For Party Presidency In The Same Way I Supported Him For State Presidency” | VIDEO

By Farai D Hove| As the MDC national congress draws nigh, the party’s Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora has said that he expects his boss, Nelson Chamisa to support him for the party presidency in the same way he assisted Chamisa win the national presidency vote tally in Manicaland.

ZEC’s 2018 figures in Manicaland show Chamisa leading against Mnangagwa, said Mwonzora.

Speaking to 263chat, Mwonzora said, “The question of his rise to the presidency of the party is a matter of, that was a bit of an argument within the mdc and I do not want to revisit that. Suffice to say that he is the president as we stand and to that extent I do respect him as the president of the party. I worked with him well when he was gunning for the state presidency.

“I actually campaigned for him in Manicaland, and I am happy to say that Manicaland is the only rural province where MDC won without question.

“The president he won so and I do credit myself and my colleagues in Manicaland, for having stood by him, but that was that. That was in the state presidency.

“I suppose that if I were to be the president of the party I will expect the same from him I will expect the same from other leaders so we have always supported each other.”

“She is an elder; I can’t exchange words with her in public, and these are internal party matters. There is no need to drag it out in the media.”

Matutu, a close ally of Mnangagwa owing to his Midlands connections, has been loosely leading the fight back against those suspected to be trying to block the President in 2023, but his peers in the youth league feel Matutu was not doing enough, resulting in an attempted vote of no confidence on him and other leaders.

Zanu Pf Stalwarts In Public Confrontation

By Own Correspondent- Irene Zindi, ZANU PF central committee member and Mutasa South legislator confronted Lewis Matutu, party deputy secretary for youth affairs over why the youths were fighting her.

Zindi confronted Matutu at the Zanu PF central committee meeting last Friday.

She said:

Why are you de-campaigning me? You came to my constituency and held meetings, accusing me of fronting the remnants of G40. That is bad, I don’t like that. You have to stop it or we will face off.

Matutu was talking to journalists when Zindi confronted him. He asked her that she refrain herself from discussing party issues in the public.

A defiant Zindi is reported to have continued shouting saying:

“I don’t care who you are standing with, I want the matter discussed. I know you and I don’t know the other people you are with.”

Matutu who refused to comment on the issue said:

She is an elder; I can’t exchange words with her in public, and these are internal party matters. There is no need to drag it out in the media.

Zindi disproved allegations that she secretly de-campaigned Mnangagwa ahead of 2018 elections. She claimed that her detractors wanted her out of the constituency in the 2023 elections. Meanwhile, Matutu, believed to be Mnangagwa’s close ally, is reported to have retaliated against purported obstacles to Mnangagwa’s 2023 presidential candidacy.

By Own Correspondent- Wheat trucks heading to Zimbabwe which have been stuck in Beira are now on their way after being stuck in Mozambique for some time due to Tropical Cyclone Idai.

Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe spokesperson Garikai Chaunza revealed that most of the wheat was not affected by the rains.

Said Chaunza:

“The bread situation in the country is set to improve because the 100 trucks that were holed up in Beira are now crossing Forbes Border Post and are trickling into the country in instalments because most of the wheat was not affected, although some of it got wet, the losses were not huge.

We are expecting another ship to dock next week with 30 000 metric tonnes and we have directed the ship to dock in Maputo and then the wheat will be transported through Chiqualaquala Border Post.”

Zimbabwe has been experiencing bread shortages over the past several months due to shortages of foreign currency.

Bread producers recently attempted to increase the price of bread but were blocked by the government.

The price of bread is pegged at RTGS$1.80, which is less than 50 per cent of what it costs in South Africa, according to reports.

On April 3, 2019, the instant messaging platform announced plans to give users more control over group chats.

This new update will come with a privacy feature that gives users the option of accepting or declining requests to join groups on the app.

Prior to this feature, WhatsApp users could be added to any group without their consent. Now, users have control over which groups they want to join.

“WhatsApp groups continue to connect family, friends, coworkers, classmates and more. As people turn to groups for important conversations, users have asked for more control over their experience,” the Facebook-owned company said in a statement.

Mliswa Lures Linda To His Side, “Come To Where I Am My Sister.”

Temba Mliswa

Own Correspondent|NORTON legislator Temba Mliswa (INDEPENDENT) has urged fired MDC-T spokesperson Linda Masarira to consider being an independent politician.

This follows the firing of Masarira without a disciplinary hearing for bringing the party’s name into disrepute and aligning herself with the rival Zanu PF party after a photo of her wrapped in ZANU-PF regalia went viral on social media.

“Come to where I am my sister as an independent, there is fresh air. No one chases you from Parliament and all i do is represent people,” Mliswa said to Linda.

He added: “Linda, I have always told you to be an independent as I’m. As an independent i can wear whatever I like, T-shirt for Nelson Chamisa or Emmerson Mnangagwa or (Thokozani) Khupe. No one whips me into line, i do it myself.”

In response to her firing, Masarira has said she will not be challenging the expulsion and will not waster her time challenging issues as trivial as a cloth.

“We don’t fight for power. I am not challenging the expulsion. We can’t divide ourselves over mere lives of cloth. Those are trivial issues that my conscience can’t waste my time on challenging,” she said.

In a rather cryptic message, Masarira warns that there were interesting times ahead.

“When you choose a side of the coin you want to belong to, be prepared to face the consequences that come with your choices that you make. Pachanakidza pano (watch this space!).”

South African Police Arrest Xenophobia Leaders

File Picture: Mozambique national Emmanuel Sithole is attacked by men in Alexandra township during anti-immigrant violence in Johannesburg April 18, 2015. He later died of his injuries.

South African law enforcement agents have arrested three people for leading attacks and attacking foreign nationals, the government said on Tuesday.

The arrests came after some locals attacked foreign nationals in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces last week.

“Three people have been arrested for their part in the criminal incidents and law enforcement agencies remain steadfast to bringing the perpetrators responsible for these crimes to book,” said Phumla Williams, acting director-general of the Government Communication and Information System.

The government has warned people against using social media to spread fake news about xenophobic attacks in the country.

There have been messages circulating on Facebook and WhatsApp about impending attacks on foreign nationals living in the country.

“The spread of misinformation, fake pictures and videos on social media as well as fake websites may be fuelling tensions in our communities between South Africans and foreign nationals,” Williams warned.

People should not believe everything they read or see on social media that is purported to be about attacks on foreign nationals, she said, adding that some video clips and images purporting to be of the recent attacks on foreign nationals are not true.

“The recent spate of the fake online stories which are fuelling tensions between South Africans and foreign nationals calls for greater efforts to raise awareness in society about fake news and fake social media posts,” Williams said.

The fake news are meant to sour the relations between South Africa and its neighbors, she said.

U.N Rubbishes Negative Report On Zim Cyclone Relief Situation

One of the UN planes used in coordinating relief distribution.

Media Statement|The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is aware of a news article alleging shortages of Jet A-1 fuel in Zimbabwe that would impact negatively on relief efforts.

The information in that article is outdated.

WFP Zimbabwe, working closely in coordination with Department of Civil Protection and local fuel suppliers, has secured adequate fuel supplies for its current operations.

In the immediate aftermath of Cyclone Idai, ensuring access to fuel for relief operations was an urgent priority.

WFP continues to liaise with Government and other partners to ensure sufficient access to fuel to continue air operations to affected areas.

WFP is currently providing humanitarian air services to some 20 partners, supporting the delivery of urgently-needed relief items (including food, medicine and shelter) to those in need in Chimanimani and Chipinge.

Over the next three months WFP plans to reach up to 270,000 affected people with food and nutrition assistance.

The plan will include multiple phases, from initial focused distributions of a nutrition product, Super Cereal +, to the most vulnerable, for three weeks, to scaling up to a full food ration for the broader population for three months, and it will also include a final early recovery phase.

Minister Convenes Indaba To Discuss Run Away Price Increases Of Basic Commodities

Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu

GOVERNMENT will hold candid discussions with industry and commerce executives in Harare today to address the latest spate of basic commodity price increases, which have sparked an outcry from consumers and are frustrating economic progress, Industry and Commerce , said yesterday.

Responding to questions during a Bulawayo Provincial Investment Conference held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, Minister Ndlovu said Government was equally concerned by the unjustified price increases.

“Businesses have been increasing prices in the last two weeks and someone was telling me that it is in response to the exchange rate.

I don’t know whether our economy is a foreign exchange market or what but this does not make sense,” said Minister Ndlovu.

He said he met operators in the tourism industry on Tuesday and they were also saying they had increased prices in response to the exchange rate.

“What component of their business requires foreign currency, what percentage requires foreign currency and why are our price increases or price adjustments a mirror of the foreign exchange rate and not the inflation rate?”

A few days ago retailers including major supermarkets increased prices of basic commodities by margins of up to 75 percent.

The move was despite the stability in the economy after the February Monetary Policy Statement, which has been widely endorsed by business.

Minister Ndlovu condemned the tendency by the private sector to profiteer through charging exorbitant prices.

“They are pushing consumers to revolt and thereafter want to engage and I believe that this is not responsible practice. I will be meeting them (private sector) tomorrow morning (today) and we want to have candid discussions around this issue which is killing our economy. It is killing our efforts to re-engage and have competitive products,” he said.

The Minister said some of the private sector players have informed the Government that there was no incentive to export because they were able to make their money locally.

“In other words it doesn’t matter to them whether or not our products are competitive in the region because they are making their money here.

“But they will come to Government for foreign currency to import raw materials, which foreign currency is earned by the private sector not by Government through exports. So it’s a concern to us and we hope this will be addressed,” said Minister Ndlovu.

The latest price increases have pushed prices beyond the reach of most consumers as their salaries have not been increased.

Prices of grocery items that include flour, rice, cooking oil, sugar, toiletries, washing powder, cereals and meat have been increased and as such are no longer affordable to most consumers.

A snap survey conducted a few days ago revealed that prices have gone up by margins of up to 75 percent.

A two litre bottle of cooking oil has gone up from an average of RTGS$7, 50 to RTGS$14 while a two kilogramme (kg) packet of chicken portions has gone up from RTGS$11 to RTGS$16.

A 10kg bag of mealie-meal has gone up from RTGS$6 to RTGS$8, 50 while 500g margarine shot up from RTGS$8 to RTGS$22.

Rapist Lecturer Sentenced 12yrs

By Own Correspondent| A Harare college lecturer will spend the next 12 years behind bars after he was found guilty of raping a student.

The 23-year-old lecturer however pleaded not guilty when he appeared before a Harare magistrate on Friday.

Magistrate Gloria Takundwa found him guilty due to overwhelming evidence and sentenced him to 12 years, four of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The magistrate considered the age of the victim (19 years), and the sentence was to act as a deterrent to teachers who would prey on students.

Prosecutors Chipo Chitambo said that the convict approached the complainant on February 15 this year and made a love proposal.

On the 20th of the same month, he ordered the student to remain behind after a lecture and she complied.

The convict then forced himself upon the complainant after locking the door to a reception area where he did the deed.

The complainant then  bolted out of the room soon after the incident and went to the police base along First Street where she reported the matter.

The lecturer was picked up by the police within 30 minutes of committing the offence.

The victim was referred to the hospital for medical examination.-Newsday

Top Police Officer Arrested For Stealing Weapons From Armoury

Ross Camp Bulawayo

A SENIOR police officer in charge of Bulawayo province’s armoury has been arrested for allegedly stealing seven different types of guns from the armoury in a case that has exposed illegal dealing in firearms by a number of cops.

Manatsa Matibe (43) who is the officer in charge of the Bulawayo provincial police armoury at ZRP Ross Camp was found in possession of an 9mm FN browning pistol, 9mm Norinco pistol, Beretta pistol 6.35mm, Webley and Scott pistols 6.35mm, Unique pistol 6.35mm and a BSA Krico rifle .22.

The firearms, which are privately owned, were lodged at the Bulawayo provincial armoury for safe keeping.

Matibe appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mrs Ulukile Mlea-Ndlovu facing charges of theft and defeating or obstructing the course of justice.

He was remanded in custody to April 16 and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Mufaro Mageza said on March 23, Matibe allegedly stole privately owned firearms from the Bulawayo provincial armoury.

The weapons were lodged at the armoury for safekeeping. He allegedly took the guns to Matabeleland North provincial police armoury.

The court heard that after learning of the arrest of his three colleagues stationed at Matabeleland North provincial police armoury in connection with the firearms, Matibe raised a false issue voucher to cover up for the charges levelled against his accomplices.

His accomplices David Fugao, whose age was not given but is the Officer-in-Charge of the Matabeleland North Provincial Armoury, Wonder Tawanda Karamba (33), Francis Chaterera (39), who are both stationed at the armoury have since appeared in court facing similar charges. They were remanded in custody to April 6 for trial.

The three police officers were arrested two weeks ago after they were found with 15 different types of guns, more than 180 live rounds of ammunition and an assortment of weaponry, which was not accounted for by the force.

In papers before the court, detectives from the homicide section received information that there were suspicious movement of firearms at the armoury.

The court heard that the detectives, through investigations, found out that some members of the police were removing firearms that are subject to a handover-takeover from the armoury to a backyard room.

The discovery followed the arrest of Fugao, after he was implicated by a suspected armed robber, Ame Mpala, who was arrested with an AK-47 rifle along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

When detectives arrived at the armoury they requested that it be opened and a search was conducted in the presence of Karamba and Chaterera.

It was discovered that there were several firearms that had been stored in the armoury that did not match those recorded in official documents.

Some of the guns listed included 22 Birmingham Sport Company rifle, 12 Bore Winchester shotgun, 22 Bruno rifle, 22 Mauser long rifle, 303 Era rifle, 22 Kregskorte rifle, 22 Winchester rifle and 22 revolver.

On the same day at around 7PM detectives received a tip-off informing them that there was a suspicious package that had been stashed at a house in Thorngrove suburb.

When the house was searched, the detectives found an assortment of weapons and ammunition.

Some of the weapons found at the house included a Noringo pistol, Vsor Pistol, FN pistol, Special Renato gamba revolver, 22 Astra revolver, 6.35mm Berreta pistol and 6.35mm automatic pistol.

The detectives interrogated the owner of the house, Delighted Chingoyori who revealed that Karamba had left the firearms at her house.

ANOTHER CYCLONE ATTACK? : Ngangu Headman Says: Mountain Rocks Will Strike Zimbabwe If People Fail To Pay Reparations For Causing Cyclone

“We’re going to have to hold a cleansing ceremony because the very same rocks which descended from the mountains will rise and go to attack the people’s houses. So what I am saying is that every individual must pay something.”

By A Correspondent| The Headman for the Ngangu area is demanding payment from people in the form of traditional sacrifices as reparations for allegedly causing the deaths of many people from the cyclone Idai last month. More than 400 people are feared dead in Zimbabwe alone.

The cyclone effects entered Zimbabwe from Mozambique; however Ngangu’s headman, vaMukono alleges it all began in Zimbabwe after some unnamed Christians who entered the mountains seeking to increase their powers, had stolen sacred pots reserved for the ancestors which are kept in the mountain.

He said these sacred pots were left in the mountain by his late father.

He told ZimEye.com, ” There was an incident before before the cyclone hit the area as told. Drums were heard blasting loudly, before it all happened.”

He also said, ” You do not pray in this mountain you are not allowed, But they were entering this mountain, thinking that this will increase their powers.

“While they were seeking to increase their powers, they then stole my father’s secret pots.”

He added saying: ” on all this that happened we are going to have to hold a cleansing ceremony. “We’re going to have to hold a cleansing ceremony because the very same rocks which descended from the mountains will rise and go to attack the people’s houses. “So what I am saying is that every individual must pay something. “When I talk to the whites, they understand that this must be done, but our own black people refuse. “All this needs the King/Chief. I am really pained by all that happened,” he concluded.

Mnangagwa Takes His “Todya Mari” Crew To Manicaland

Mnangagwa with his “todya mari” crew

Own Correspondent|President Emmerson Mnangagwa is taking his crew of 17 losing presidential candidates to cyclone ravaged Manicaland Province purportedly to assesses the effects of the cyclone.

This is the first time that the bloc of political party leaders taking part in the Mnangagwa led national dialogue have come together to assess damage caused by Cyclone Idai.

The team made up of mostly unknown politicians who emerged to contest elections last year suffered a credibility dent last week when one of their members recorded a video of himself at Rainbow Towers in Harare boasting that they were enjoying state funds (“Todya mari”) while MDC leader Nelson Chamisa remains outside.

Chamisa and three other candidates refused to be part of the dialogue which Mnangagwa dominates. Speaking on the visit, Mnangagwa called on Chamisa and other leaders to join him and put political differences aside.

“Now with disaster that has struck us, all I want to say is that let us put our politics aside and let us see what assistance we can give as a people to those among us who have lost their beloved ones,” said Mnangagwa.

“We have come as a team of the Zimbabwe Political Dialogue, the heads of political parties in the dialogue, the Presidents including myself have come over so that together we can move around and show solidarity because this disaster has no totem, has no political party, everybody is affected. So we need this unique unity which we are experiencing as Zimbabweans, which has brought us together as a result of the disaster that we demonstrate that we are one people.

“The grief of one family is the grief of the entire community, the grief of the community is the grief of the entire province is also the grief of the entire nation. The lesson that I believe one now realises is that when disaster strikes is when we realise that we are human beings, we all have feelings, we all have relatives and we all belong to this one family.”

Today, Mnangagwa will lead a programme that will see leaders of political parties traversing Chipinge and Chimanimani using helicopters to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Idai and efforts being made by Government to rebuild the affected communities.

After his arrival in Mutare yesterday, Mnangagwa interacted with leaders of other political parties where they received a detailed brief on the national disaster and measures that were being undertaken to mitigate the effects of the catastrophe.

He took time to field questions from leaders of the opposition parties who wanted to know what Government did to sensitise people about the cyclone before it struck.

This morning, Mnangagwa will lead the first delegation that will leave Mutare for Nedziwa where they will see a damaged bridge before proceeding to Machongwe which is one of the hardest hit areas.

Mnangagwa did not manage to visit the area during his last visit because it was not navigable.

From Machongwe, Mnangagwa will proceed to Ngangu, a township in Chimanimani urban where he will deliver a keynote address and take part in the clean-up campaign.

On the other hand, Vice President Constantino Chiwenega will lead a delegation that will go to Biriiri before proceeding to Chipinge.

Chipinge was hard hit in terms of water supply and the hospital there is the one where most people from affected areas were taken to.

From Chipinge, the VP will then proceed to Ngangu for the Mnangagwa key note address.

Another delegation that was supposed to be led by Vice President Kembo Mohadi will leave Mutare for Cashel at Mutambara Hospital.

From Cashel the delegation will go to Nyahode river where there was a badly damaged bridge. Until this week, rescuers were not able to go beyond that river by road either with food or to evacuate people.

The delegation will then go to Chikukwa which is the most isolated area right now by road. Evacuation of people or delivery of food is still by helicopter.

From Chikukwa the delegation will proceed to Ngangu. Another team of political parties will depart Mutare heading towards Mhandarume near Wengezi where there is a bridge which is now passable.

The delegation will fly over Nedziwa and Muusha and land at Nyahode bridge before proceeding to Kopa. After Kopa the helicopter will go to Ngangu for the Presidential address.

According to the programme, another team will land at Mhandarume before heading to Silver Stream and then to Ngangu.

Another team will depart Mutare for Biriiri and then Chipinge. From Chipinge the team will go to Kopa before proceeding to Ngangu.

The delegations will also end up in Ngangu, the ground zero of the Cyclone Idai damage.

Deputy Mayor Accused Of Teaming Up With “Bouncers” To Disrupt MDC Ward Meeting

One of the placards thrown down at the venue after the fracas.

Bulawayo Deputy Mayor Tinashe Kambarami is reported to have teamed up with ward 28 losing Councillor Collet Ndlovu to block some MDC Youths from accessing a Ward 16 Congress venue on Tuesday.

Ndlovu is the Luveve District Deputy Chairperson.

Reporting on the matter Ward 16 Secretary for Elections Abel Dube said, “Chaos prevailed once again in Gwabalanda today (Tuesday) due to youths being not allowed to go inside the designated Venue, a house owned by former ZRP Law and Order Constable Malusi Fuyana, the Outgoing Ward Chairperson.

“The electoral process was being conducted by Former Councillor Collet Ndlovu his son Masiza Ndlovu, Former Ward 16 councillor Nephat sibanda who is the district chair and her daughter Samkeliso.”

Dube said Ndlovu had brought his bouncers to vet the voting delegates.

“The process couldn’t go on due to the fact that Mr Collet Ndlovu’s bouncers who work for him at his Cowdray Park bar (mahweba) were the ones vetting people and disallowed the youth led by Wayne Mpala and Leo Phiri from entering the voting venue.

“After half of the delegates were called in, Deputy Mayor Tinashe Kambarami, who was recently found guilty of threatening violence on people, arrived in the company of Takunda Madzana and Pashor Sibanda and instructed the Collet’s security to block the youths from voting and this resulted in Ward youth chair and his troops to forcefully push the gate and enter Fuyane’s yard in their large numbers.

“The youths were upset due to the fact that, they can’t be disallowed to vote in their ward by a person who just got 221 votes and lost an election to ZANU PF and being commanded by beerhall security in their own ward.” Dube added.

There have been reports of chaos in some MDC Ward congresses held across the country with some cases reported to have turned bloody.

Govt Announces Salary Increases For Civil Servants, Minimum Pegged At $600.

Minister Mthuli Ncube announcing the new salaries

Government has announced a $400 million cost of living adjustment package for civil servants with effect from 1 April 2019 that will see the lowest paid employee taking home over RTGS$600 as it moves to cushion its workers from the obtaining economic challenges.

The salary increases will range from 13 percent to 29 percent according to grades.

This will be effected from deputy director level in Government ministries to the lowest income earner, who in this case will get the highest increment of 29 percent.

Of the $400 million, the Public Service Commission including the uniformed forces have been allocated $281 million, Health Services Board will get $56,8 million, while the Judiciary Services Commission gets $2,5 million.

Independent commissions and grant aided institutions get $2,6 million and $56,8 million respectively.

This development follows negotiations with the civil servants body, the Apex council recently.

The latest figure is an increase from the $350 million Government had offered to its employees that it reviewed after realising the need to further cushion the workers.

The cost of living adjustment is also in addition to the $63 million once off allowance civil servants received during the first quarter of 2019.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Dr Sekesai Nzenza, said Government together with civil servants had agreed on the $400 million offer and this would be reviewed again in June in line with the cost of living.

“Following the announcement of the cushioning allowance, which the President announced from January to March of $63 million, there have been negotiations through the National Joint Negotiating Council, which looks at salaries and benefits for civil servants.

“Government has now offered $400 million as the cost of living adjustment for civil servants, which is an outcome of the negotiating processes that have been going on in order to support them given the cost of living in the country.

“The workers agreed with Government that $400 milion will be offered from the initial $350 million,” she said during a briefing in the capital yesterday also attended by Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube.

Dr Nzenza emphasised Government’s commitment to improving the living conditions for civil servants by supporting them with both monetary and non-monetary benefits.

“We will be reviewing this again in June. Government is committed to the welfare of civil servants,” she said.

Also speaking at the same briefing, Minister Ncube said Government would continue to watch economic developments as they unfold and cushion the civil service in line with that.

Minister Ncube also indicated this cost of living adjustment will see the lowest income earner pocketing a salary above the poverty datum line (RTGS$600).

“We are looking at grades from deputy director to office orderly who is at B1. We expect to cushion the lower grades with higher percent increase, for instance the deputy director gets 13 percent. The lowest earner is getting a 29 percent increase.

“We will continue to watch the economic developments for instance the inflation and cost of living and in June we take stock,” he said.

Government is also looking at other non-monetary benefits such as transport and housing provision for the civil service.

Public Service Commission chairman Dr Vincent Hungwe, said this was in line with international best practice and Government would continue to address these basic needs for a sustainable living during and after service.

“It is imperative that civil servants have access to basics even when they retire,” he said.

LIVE: BREAKING- Ngangu Headman Blames Christians For Causing Cyclone Idai Deaths By Praying In Chimanimani Sacred Mountain

By A Correspondent| The Headman for the Ngangu area has blamed Christians for allegedly causing the deadly cyclone Idai through which more than 400 people are feared dead in Zimbabwe alone.

The cyclone effects entered Zimbabwe from Mozambique but Ngangu’s headman alleges it all began in Zimbabwe after some unnamed Christians had stolen sacred pots reserved for the ancestors which are kept in the mountain.

He told ZimEye.com, ” There was an incident before before the cyclone hit the area. Drums were heard blasting loudly, before it all happened.”

He also said, ” You do not pray in this mountain you are not allowed, But they were entering this mountain, thinking that this will increase their powers.

” While they were seeking to increase their powers, they then stole my father’s secret pots.”

Mnangagwa’s Praise Singer Warns Him, “Chinowora Chinhu Ichi”

Jones Musara

Correspondent|ONE of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s most staunch supporters has turned the guns on the party bosses including Mnangagwa himself and accused them of “eating alone” while ignoring the youths.

A frustrated Jones Musara has accused President Mnangagwa’s administration of giving each other jobs as “old madhalas” and showing traits that got former President Robert Mugabe kicked out by a military coup.

He also goes on to blast the so-called technocrats in government, asking “where were they when Mnangagwa needed support during his succession battles with G40.

Read his full threat below:

See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil has destroyed many countries, governments or parties and therefore should be avoided.

Chinhu ichi should not appear like or be chinhu chavo madhara chete. It should be always Chinhu cheduand that requires Generational blending and Gutsaruzhinji.

Madhara akangodya ega as usual as was the case in the Mugabe era then we would be back to Chinhu Chavo. Chinowora chinhu ichi zvikadaro.

When some of us supported Chikara to succeed Mugabe we wanted a new system different from Mugabe system. We wanted a new system where there is Gutsaruzhinji kwete Gutsamashefu or Gutsavashoma chete chete. We wanted more freedom and more Development. We still want that.

That cannot be achieved by dominance of the same folks loyal to Mugabe or new folks opportunists who only started supporting Mnangagwa after he won.

Mnangagwa loyalists both dhalas and youths should be dominating chinhu ichi because ndovanoziva zvinangwa zvatakasarudzira Garwe. Otherwise chinowora chinhu ichi.

Whereas retention of some Mugabe era elements is necessary for experience and institutional memory, the once who should dominate in creation of a new system are ED loyalists both old and young, old faces and new faces not opportunists or Mugabe loyalists. Otherwise chinowora chinhu ichi.

All these politicians and technocrats now dominating chinhu ichi, where were all these people when ED needed help and support most during the succession battle? Chinhu ichi should be dominated by ED loyalists not Opportunists or Mugabe loyalists otherwise chinowora chinhu ichi.

Reports are that Mohadi attacked Sen Tambudzani in full view of members of the Police.

SUDDEN ESCAPE: Prisoner Vanishes

A prisoner escaped from Victoria Falls prison where he was serving 15 months, Matabeleland North public relations officer for the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), Assistant Principal Correctional Officer (APCO) Gareth Nkomo has confirmed.

Noel Mwembe (33) of Victoria Falls escaped on Monday afternoon and a manhunt has since been launched.

He was serving a 15-month jail term after being convicted of disposing pesticide or toxic substance into the environment,” said APCO Nkomo.

Mwembe was set to complete his term on January 21 next year. APCO Nkomo said investigations to establish how Mwembe escaped are in progress.

A source however said Mwembe escaped when he and other inmates were doing some menial work near CHOGM Park about 400 metres from the prison holding cells at the magistrates’ court.

Mwembe allegedly told prison guards that he wanted to relieve himself and entered a nearby bush before disappearing.

Prison officers searched for him after noticing that he had not returned but could not find him. A report was then made to the police.

In 2017 a self-proclaimed prophet who doubles as a tsikamutanda, Jabulani Nyoni escaped from Victoria Falls prison.

He was re-arrested a few days later and claimed that he bribed a prison officer who assisted him to escape. Nyoni was then transferred to Khami Maximum Prison.

Last year, another self-proclaimed inyanga Masimpe Muleya escaped from Hwange Prison in the company of Maxwell Musariri, a constable who had been arrested for breaking into colleagues’ houses.

The two used a piece of steel from a combat boot to drill a hole on a wooden section of the prison cell wall before making good their escape.

Both were re-arrested and transferred to Khami Maximum Prison.

Meanwhile, a Gwanda Prison inmate has been jailed three months for escaping while he was working at a ranch in Colleen Bawn with 14 other inmates under the supervision of five prison officers.

Polite Siziba (23) of Vokola area in Filabusi fled from prison officers and went to his homestead where he was arrested the following day.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty to escaping from lawful custody by Gwanda magistrate, Mrs Nomagugu Sibanda.

Siziba was sentenced to an effective three months in jail. Prosecuting, Miss Faith Mutukwa said Siziba fled on March 25 and was arrested the following day at around 1PM.

“On 25 March at around 7AM Siziba who is serving a 30 month jail term for unlawful entry at Gwanda Prison was clearing bushes along power lines at South Hill Ranch in Colleen Bawn together with 14 other inmates under the supervision of five prison officers.

“Siziba escaped into the bushes and went away unnoticed. The prison officers later instructed the inmates to get into the vehicle at around 2PM so that they could return to Gwanda Prison and that’s when they realised that Siziba was missing. They searched around the area but failed to locate him,” she said.

The prison officers laid an ambush outside his home the following day and they arrested him when he turned up there at around 1PM.- state media

Court Outlaws Corporal Punishment

Justice Luke Malaba announcing that he does not believe in figures

The Constitutional Court (Concourt) has outlawed judicial corporal punishment, saying it amounts to inhuman and degrading punishment.

Chief Justice Luke Malaba, sitting with eight other judges of the apex court, ruled that such inhuman treatment had no place in a democratic society.

The court struck down Section 353 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which provides for the caning of juvenile offenders, saying it was in conflict with Section 53 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The latest decision was made in a case in which a 15-year-old boy, who was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl, was contesting the legality of the sentence of six strokes of the cane.

High Court judge, Justice Joseph Mafusire in 2014, found the sentence to be unconstitutional but in terms of the law, the case was referred to the Constitutional Court for confirmation.

Advocate Thabani Mpofu filed heads of argument as a friend of the court in the matter, while Messrs Tendai Biti and David Hofisi represented the Justice for Children Trust and the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), respectively.

Mr Justin Uladi represented the State, while Mrs Olivia Zvedi acted for the Attorney-General.

The nine-member bench heard the matter in 2015 during the tenure of the now late former Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku and reserved judgment.

Chief Justice Malaba had to write the judgment which was availed yesterday. The issue of caning had sparked legal challenges in Zimbabwe, with others even contesting caning at school and in the home.

However, the Concourt had to make a ruling in relation to the sentencing of juveniles to strokes of the cane, which was before it.

“The court holds that judicial corporal punishment is, by nature, intent and effect, an inhuman and degrading punishment within the meaning of Section 53 of the Constitution.

“The court also holds in respect of the main question that Section 353 of the Act is inconsistent with Section 53 of the Constitution.

“The order of the High Court concerning constitutional invalidity of Section 353 of the Act is hereby confirmed,” ruled Chief Justice Malaba.

Chief Justice Malaba said the judgment also applied to those who have been convicted of offences, but awaiting caning.

“With effect from 3 April 2019, no male juvenile convicted of any offence, shall be sentenced to receive moderate corporal punishment.

“The prohibition shall apply to juveniles already sentenced but awaiting execution,” he said.

The chief Justice said any punishment which involves the infliction of physical mental violence on a person which caused pain and suffering was inhuman.

Many countries, the court said, had since done away with corporal punishment.

“Caning invades the integrity of the human body. It is an inhuman punishment which blocks the way to understanding the pathology of crime. It has been abolished in many countries of the world as being incompatible with the contemporary concepts of humanity, decency and fundamental fairness,” the court ruled.

He said there were several other alternatives lawful sentences that can be imposed to rehabilitate the juvenile offenders.

The chief justice said community service, suspended sentence or even postponement of the sentence are other alternatives available for juvenile offenders. Other judges who heard the case were Justices Vernanda Ziyambi, Elizabeth Gwaunza, Susan Mavangira, Ben Hlatshwayo, Chinembiri Bhunu, Tendai Uchena and Lavender Makoni. -state media

Mandiwanzira Cleared Of One Charge

Supa Mandiwanzira

Former Minister Supa Mandiwanzira heaved a sigh of relief yesterday after the High Court acquitted him on one of the criminal abuse of office charges involving a $218 million auditing contract signed by NetOne and a South African company.

Justice Nicholas Mathonsi granted the defence application for review of the trial court proceedings, in which Mandiwanzira sought to set aside the charge relating to procurement of services from the South African-based Megawatt Energy.

Mandiwanzira was accused of unprocedurally cherry-picking Megawatt Energy to investigate a $218 million contract that was signed by former NetOne chief executive Reward Kangai.

The Nyanga South legislator had denied all the charges and was cleared of the first count.
He now faces one charge involving the appointment of his personal assistant Tawanda Chinembiri, a civil servant at director level, to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz) board and Universal Services Fund in violation of corporate governance principles.

Charges against Mandiwanzira were that on June 26, 2013, Kangai and a Chinese company Huawei Technologies entered into a contract for the supply of network expansion and modernisation equipment to the tune of $218 954 843.

After signing the contract, NetOne secured a loan with China Exim Bank through the Finance Ministry then represented by former minister Patrick Chinamasa. It was alleged that on January 19, 2015, Megawatt Energy, a South African company owned by Lui Xiadong wrote to Mandiwanzira, seeking a meeting with him. Mandiwanzira agreed to engage Megawatt supposedly on a pro bono basis.

Megawatt, it was alleged, jointly owned a property in Johannesburg with Mandiwanzira’s company Blue Nightingale. Mandiwanzira engaged Megawatt without going to tender and in the absence of a contract, according to the State case.- state media

Linda Masarira Says: It’s True I’ve Been Fired By Khupe

“Unfortunately she (Khupe) succumbed to pressure from some sheep in wolves clothing posing as loyalists.”- Masarira

By Farai D Hove| Thokozani Khupe’s spokesperson Linda Masarira has said it is true that she has been fired by her party.

This was as a result of revelations in pictures-while wearing ZANU PF regalia.  This also follows an expose’ by ZimEye.com on Tuesday afternoon which saw the party deputy, Obert Gutu responding to ZimEye’s investigative which shows that the makeshift party has no more than 10 members.

Masarira last night stated she has received an email from the party announcing the decision. It was revealed that there was no hearing conducted.

Masarira who has in recent months been staying in South Africa said “we meet to part and part to meet; I am not going to challenge the expulsion as it will put me at the same level of myopia, tomfoolery and intolerance.

“It is difficult to exist in an establishment where guns are always out blazing on you. I came, I served and got fired.

“I am now moving on with my vision for Zimbabwe which I had put on hold to assist a sister Thokozani Khupe who was facing a lot of abuse from misogynists in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

“Unfortunately she succumbed to pressure from some sheep in wolves clothing posing as loyalists,” she added.

Commenting on the issue of the regalia, Masarira said: “I am shocked by the depths of political illiteracy shown by some Zimbabweans. The way that most people especially from the opposition major in trivial issues leave a lot to be desired and one wondering whether such politically illiterate citizens are supposed to vote or not. Our politics have produced a polarised society full of intolerant citizens who breathe hate speech and insults. We must work very hard to undo this self destruct and poisonous culture.

“Few days ago I found myself in an African home, my new home to be precise. My husband took me there to meet my new found family. It is common that in the rural areas where ZANU PF dominates you will obviously find Zanu PF regalia. The families there are not as polarized as we are in the towns were could possibly be stoned to death for wearing another political party regalia.

“I found myself in a situation that I had to embrace the diversity of my hubby’s people who have also become my people. I found it an opportunity to bond with my mother in law and aunts. It never was an offence to put on my Aunt’s regalia. As in soccer where teams in competition when the match is over, despite their rivalry do a jersey swap. Eden Hazard exchanging a jersey with Rashford, is an act of many words to football lovers. Wearing my in-laws regalia was an acceptance of their diversity and a testimony that I had become their daughter unconditionally. They needed not be MDCT or any other opposition. I accept them as they are.

“With me that was a token in our culture that became an expression of my pride for my people. African homes should not be destroyed by the toxicity of urban politics of intolerance. It should never surprise the politically mature and level headed that it is not a sin to integrate amongst ourselves. Politics comes second to our families and on arrival they are not to divide us. So the legend Morgan Tsvangirai saw no offence in marrying someone from ZANU PF.

“Now if a whole former prime minister and president of the MDC found nothing uncultural, unconstitutional and unnatural in sharing the same blankets with a Zanu PF member or daughter of ZANU PF parents, why should I be judged by the politically illiterate opposition bootlickers! It is a trivial thing that only those not informed major on. Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events and small minded social media activists discuss people.

“As we move towards 2023, seeing we are already almost a year from last elections, where unfortunately our erstwhile cdes to the MDCT the party I am proudly National Spokesperson have chosen to remain in elections mood forever, we must demonstrate to our fellow citizens, relatives and friends in every society be it urban or rural, a culture of tolerance, acceptance of our diversity.

“It is imperative, therefore, that we engage in conversations that show demonstrable maturity and focus on developmental issues. It must be taboo that we get offended by a mere T Shirt. We must tell our people to channel their energy on proffering solutions to our challenges to rise from this quagmire. Its high time political parties followers understood that we are not enemies of each other but institutions of different political ideologies all aimed at building our great country. As such we must discourage a language dominated by a vocabulary of hate speech, insults and political violence. Our language should be of peace, love and harmony. True leaders need that as a foundation and revolutionaries make that the a purpose to their visions. We have more that unites us than what divides us.”

Full Text Of ZESN Report On Cowdray Park By Election

On 30 March 2019, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) conducted a local authority by-election for Cowdray Park (Ward 28) to fill a vacancy that had arisen following the death of the incumbent Councillor, Hapson Ncube, who died in December 2018.

Cowdray Park is in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province and is one of the three wards that make up Luveve Constituency, the other 2 wards being Gwabalanda (Ward 16) and Luveve (Ward 15).

The ward has a voting population of 23 257 which is one of the largest in the province. Accordingly, ZEC established 36 polling stations for use in this by election.
The Nomination Court for aspiring candidates sat on February 22, 2019 in keeping with Section 125(4)(b) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13] .

Feedback from the

ZESN observers who closely tracked the Court proceedings indicated that due processes were adhered to in the processing of the submissions by aspiring candidates.

Seven (7) of the 18 people who contested this ward by-election did so as independent candidates.

Observer reports indicated that the campaigns were largely peaceful; however, disturbing reports of defacing and tearing of campaign posters were reported by ZESN observers.

The most prominent modes of campaigning in use for candidates and political parties were reported to be campaign posters and door to door visit. The ruling party conducted the most visible political campaign and It was also the only party that held a rally in the ward.

At the invitation of the ZEC, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) such as ZESN and a Consortium of CSOs based in the Matabeleland region conducted a number of civic and voter education activities that included distribution of Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials, convening meet the candidate forums, radio talk shows, and public meetings.

The only voter registration center that was open for voter registration was the provincial ZEC offices; this presented a significant financial hurdle for those who intended to register to vote.

Election Day political environment was generally calm and peaceful, in keeping with the political environment that was observed in the pre-election period.

On Election Day, reports from ZESN observers indicated that all polling stations in the by election were set up in accordance with laid down procedures and opened on time, with all essential election material being present.

However as a departure from what had become the norm, ZEC did not provide height adjusted voting booths to cater for persons with physical handicaps such as wheelchair users and voters of short stature. ZESN observers reported high numbers of voters redirected to other polling stations.

The ZANU PF candidate Kidwell Mujuru was duly elected as the Councillor of Ward 28 of Cowdray Park having garnered 1,899 votes. The seat was previously won by the MDC Alliance during the 2018 harmonized elections.

The Alliance fielded two candidates in the by-election who polled a combined tally of 1,450 votes. The other political parties and candidates polled a combined total of 1,002 votes. Kidwell Mujuru becomes the only Zanu-PF councillor out of 29 councillors in an MDC-Alliance-dominated Bulawayo City Council.

MDC And ZANU PF Square Off In Another By Election

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has presided over a nomination court for Mutasa Ward 10 with three candidates from Zanu PF, MDC Alliance and NCA being duly elected to contest in the by-elections scheduled for the 11th of May next month.

The by-elections for Mutasa Ward 10 are being held after Councillor Frank Chitembwe of the MDC Alliance party was convicted and imprisoned over the #ShutDownZimbabwe violent protests leaving the seat vacant.

Following a nomination court held in Mutasa, Nomination Court Officer Cornelius Mudehwe declared Magret Tindinika of Zanu PF, Tanyaradzwa Rose Mukodza of the MDC Alliance and Tanyaradzwa Justin Chirimo of the NCA duly elected candidates to contest during the 11 May by-election.

The successful candidates thanked the electoral officials for conducting the process in a transparent manner with women candidates saying they are happy to be afforded the opportunity by their political parties to contest for leadership positions.

“We are happy with the process and the chance to contest. For me as a Zanu PF candidate I am contesting for the first time to be a councillor,” said Tindinika.

A number of council by-elections have been held after the 30 July 2018 harmonised elections with the ruling party taking the lion’s share. — ZBC

FUNERAL OUTBURST: Who Will Defend the Dead Step Mother?

By Ndaba Nhuku| Having watched that video, l am still left asking why she had to be insulted on the day she should be mourned and buried to rest in peace. What crime did she commit, falling in love with someone who proposed to her?

I don’t think children have to fight on behalf of parents. Noone knows what drives parents apart. Some men do not want to tell the world that their wives are seeing other men; Will children know that if dad just walks out? As someone said elsewhere, “the battle is not for children”.

In the video, the gentleman calls Beauty a “hure/ prostitute.” But why? On what grounds? His father loved her and never called her hure? What is a “hure”? Zimbabweans like describing women, esp second wives or women who fall in love with married men this way. Are men not prostitutes if they do the same thing?

Did Beauty rape this PhD student’s father? Whilst discussing the issue with a friend, she asked, “What if his mother was abandone for the same kuhura which he is accusing the late Beauty for?” He can legitimately complain for not having been sent to school because his father was irresponsible but there is no evidence the step mother caused it. If she did, then his father was an irresponsible fool.

It is appalling and sad to listen to such a grown man talking nonsense in public kurwa shanje dza mai. And to think that there is a woman and children who call such “baba”! This guy should move on and have a life. His PhD is meaningless with this kind of behaviour and thinking. Or he wants to justify taking over Beauty’s possessions? This is a sense of entitlement and public humiliation of his family.

He is not God to have decided the right wife for his father and name calling of Beauty. What if Beauty had realised her own mistakes in life and had truly repented? That is if there is something she did wrong and she lived well with members of her community. Who is he to judge Beauty and denigrate the church?

Sone step children are vengeful and vindictive without knowing the relationship that existed being their parents and caused them to divorce. They have no idea about their own mother’s past but they are quick to label ana mainini mahure. In brief , this is not his battle to fight. Akashaya akamupa size panhamo ipapo. This is an insult to most step mothers doing a great job with kids who are not appreciative just because they want to fight their mothers corner!

The gentleman needs anger management and some counseling to help him move on with his life and have a great family. He is simply embarrassing his wife, children and his own mother. He could have made the public acknowledge him in a very polite and reconciliatory manner. He would ha e walked away the winner. But now be walks away as someone in need of psychiatry treatment to live a better and more fulfilling life.

Step mothers, most of you do a great job just life men who take on step kids as their own. Fathers, avoid abandoning your children once you divorce their mothers. Your children remain your responsibility for life. There is no justification at all for abandoning your kids. And fathers’ recklessness and irresponsibility should not be transferred to his new wife. Some men are simply irresponsible even with the new wife!! Grown up step children should research esp for a PhD student, causes of divorces and why some parents abandon their children, before making public stunts about their step mothers

Patson Dzamara Believes ZANU PF Did Not Rig The Cowdray Park By Election

Patson Dzamara

Activist Patson Dzamara has ignored the clear ZEC and ZANU PF alliance which allows the MDC to field more than one candidate and has accused some of his colleagues in the Movement for Democratic Change of being in denial saying it was ridiculous for anyone to suggest rigging in the Cowdray Park council by-election which the MDC lost at the weekend.

The MDC lost the Cowdray Park council seat to ZANU-PF candidate Kidwell Mujuru who polled 1 899 votes against the combined votes of two MDC candidates of 1 450.

Dzamara’s sentiments seemed to be a reaction to MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’s spokesman Nkululeko Sibanda’s defence to the party’s loss to rigging after Sibanda tweeted: “Look, we blinked and the rigging machine took advantage. This is primarily because the president focussed on the cyclone and humanitarian situation. Be rest assured, president will look into this.”

Dzamara responded: “I see some are in denial regarding the defeat our party suffered in Cowdray Park over the weekend. It’s actually ridiculous for anyone to even suggest rigging. Hama, there was no rigging apa, we were beaten because of our internal issues. We must attend to those issues.”

He said if the MDC doesn’t reset during this congress “then we must forget about dismantling ZANU-PF anytime soon”.

Dzamara said three things must happen:

  1. Absolutely nobody is entitled to anything.
  2. All tired hands & feet must be rested.
  3. A multi-pronged reset of the entire party must be effected.

MDC Vanguard Leader Arrested, Accused Of Wearing Army Uniform And Shooting With An AK47 Rifle

Shakespeare Mukoyi

MDC youth assembly leader Shakespeare Mukoyi was arrested on Monday accused of shooting a Zanu-PF activist two days after a nationwide strike over fuel prices in January, his lawyer said.

Mukoyi is accused of shooting the unnamed Zanu-PF supporter in the thigh with an AK47 while dressed in military uniform, which he refutes.

The incident allegedly happened on January 16, two days after widespread protests in response to a 168 percent fuel price increase decreed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mukoyi spent the greater part of Monday, April 1, being questioned by detectives at Harare Central Police Station before being released into the custody of his lawyer. He will appear in court soon facing charges of attempted murder.

Obey Shava, of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, said the charges were baseless.

“The allegations are without foundation and we will be fighting them vigorously. If they were genuine, surely the police would have been ready for court by now, considering that it allegedly happened in January 2019,” the lawyer said.

The January 14 protests were crushed by the military, which is accused of killing at least 18 people, while over 80 others were left nursing gunshot wounds.

Opposition leaders and labour activists are among over a thousand people rounded up after the protests and accused of a range of crimes, including plotting the overthrow of the government.

Human rights groups have called for justice for the over 400 people allegedly brutalised by the military, including victims of rape and murder, in the nationwide crackdown that followed.

The military denies committing any atrocities in the campaign, blaming it on rogue opposition elements who allegedly stole army uniforms.

LIES AGAINST SENATOR TIMVEOS WILL NOT WORK

A sad scenario, where the ZANU CIOs are pretending to be loyalists of President Nelson Chamisa while falsely castigating those who stood with President Nelson Chamisa from before the rigged 2014 Congress, has arisen.

In the audio, Linia Msipa, who works in Mudisi’s Butchery is encouraged to lie and defame Zvishavane Senator, Lilian Timveos, by labelling her a disciple of Douglas Mwonzora. A few women, among them Lynettte Madzingaudza, Esnath Ndhlovu and Gamuchirai Tsvete, join the conversation to assassinate Senator Lilian Timveos’ character.

The lies are peddled to disguise the fact that at the Zvishavane-Ngezi 2019 District Congress held last weekend, *the party won resoundingly over Mudisi’s CIO project.* Since Mudisi’s faction hatched a plan to portray itself as being aligned to President Chamisa, Senator Timveos is being cast as a Mwonzora disciple.

Mudisi and his faction are in fact closer to former CIO boss, Pearson Mbalekwa, than they are to President Nelson Chamisa.

For the record, Senator Lilian Timveos wholeheartedly supports MDC President Nelson Chamisa, Moyo Chirandu Gono and will continue to do so.

Losers at last weekend’s MDC District Congress in Zvishavane-Ngezi *should not* turn to lies to prop up their vanished political careers.

Reports are that Mohadi attacked Sen Tambudzani in full view of members of the Police.

The fact that he had the guts to harass someone in front of potential witnesses and law enforcement points out to the fact that the Zimbabwean State on a broader scale has been captured by very dangerous individuals.

We demand that action be taken against Mohadi, everyone must stand up in protection of rights of women, in this case, they were clearly violated.

Allegations of malicious damage of property and deaths threats must be investigated. “
