Third Faction Emerges In Troubled Zanu PF

Mugabe has helplessly watched as two distinct groups in Zanu PF heckle over who will take over from him, but yesterday Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe (ARDCZ) president, Killer Zivhu told journalists that the 92-year-old leader “must never lose sleep”.

“We have set in motion a process that we see all councillors across the country meeting the President as soon as he returns from his annual leave. We want to tell the President that he must never lose sleep because some people want his position.

“The so-called factions and their leaders are all detached from reality. Even some para-Zanu PF groups that have also been making noise should never be allowed to hold the President to ransom, claiming they have the power to determine whether he retains power next year. We are standing by him,” Zivhu said.

“We want to tell the President about the problems people are facing, the bad state of the roads and growing poverty. But most importantly, we have a message from the rural folk that we support President Mugabe as our leader in the next election. We are going to use our proximity to rural people to fight against the ‘bhora musango’ idea.”

Mugabe has always been accused of using State institutions to retain power and the emergence of ARDCZ as a Zanu PF anchor in hugely-anticipated elections next year gives credence to calls by opposition parties for reforms.

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, seen as Mugabe’s heir apparent for years now, is facing growing opposition to his bid to take over from Mugabe by a faction pushing for First Lady Grace Mugabe as a possible successor to her ailing husband.

Zivhu said his proposed meeting would include chiefs and chief executive officers of rural district councils. His declaration that his association would not support the existing factions could be seen as a continuation of the struggle for power in Zanu PF and the continued weakening of the G40 group, whose major proponents include Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere.

Kasukuwere doubles as Zanu PF political commissar and was reportedly not happy with Mugabe’s decision to split his ministry that previously superintended over rural councils and traditional leaders.

Traditional leaders have also been accused by opposition parties of frog-marching poor villagers to Zanu PF rallies and threatening them against voting for any other party, but the ruling party.

Zivhu told NewsDay that rural councillors would begin to campaign for Mugabe this year, while war veterans have threatened to dump the veteran politician, accusing him of refusing to hand over power to Mnangagwa.

Mugabe lost the first round of voting in 2008 to MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai after an internal revolt persuaded people to vote against the Zanu PF leader.

War veterans have threatened another rebellion in the coming elections. – Newsday

Mugabe Death Pastor To Appear In Court

Mugadza, the founder and leader of Remnant Church, was picked up by police, as he walked out of the Harare Magistrates’ Court, where he was facing a separate charge of abusing the national flag, over which his trial has been set for February 22 and had been expected to appear in court yesterday.

His lawyer, Gift Mtisi, said the cleric remained in police custody and was to appear in court today.

“They decided to keep him in custody and he will only be brought to court tomorrow [today],” he said.

The cleric told journalists in Harare last week that on December 26 last year, God had revealed to him in a “prophecy” that Mugabe, who turns 93 next month, would “die on October 17” this year.

His prophecy caused fissures and anxiety within the government, leading to his arrest.

Announcing his prophecy last week, Mugadza said: “It’s not to say that I am glad to announce this, but I am just saying it because that is what the Lord has revealed to me. It was on December 26, when I was in prayer and God said to me this coming year, in 2017, the President is dying. He told me that he is dying on October 17.”

On Sunday, Zanu PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere admonished clerics prophesying Mugabe’s death, warning of unspecified action.

This is not the first time prophecies have been made of Mugabe’s “looming death”, but the veteran politician has laughed off the predictions, jokingly saying he had surpassed Jesus Christ’s record, dying and resurrecting several times. – Newsday

Wicknell Chivayo Finds Love | LATEST

IT seems the search by flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo for a wife has yielded results, if yesterday’s picture on his Facebook page of a mysterious woman lying on his chest is anything to go by.

The picture captioned: “Sir is chilling at home with the successful candidate…..” was posted on New Year’s Eve.

Chivayo last year put out a list with criteria for the type of woman that could be his wife on his Facebook page.

The self-proclaimed successful businessman posted 16 requirements for a wife, as if he was looking for someone to fill in a post at one of his companies.

“Looking for a wife….I have finally decided I’m getting married in 2017. Applicants with the following requirements should apply…”

The list is complete with requirements that those who wanted to be considered should have recommendations from their last two boyfriends and from their parents. The deadline was January 1.

The first criteria is for the successful woman to have natural hair, which according to this latest post is not a thing for him as the mysterious woman’s head has a weave.

The mysterious woman seems to fit one of his characteristics of being light skinned, while the other attributes such as being a good cook, having a degree and having a satisfactory income source backed by a bank statement are not yet established.

Naturally, his Facebook post was flooded with comments from his followers who gave their two cents on the matter.

Others congratulated Chivayo for getting someone to love saying it had been a long time coming while others especially women were distraught that he was now attached.

Some questioned why Chivayo had overlooked his first criteria of natural hair while some were not amused that he called her a candidate, as if she was auditioning for a play or sitting for an exam.

The “successful” candidate’s nationality could not be immediately established after Wicknell last year took a dig at Zimbabwean women calling them stubborn and disrespectful. He said he would rather marry a foreigner than a woman from his home country. – State Media

MUGABE OUT: Come Clean Mnangagwa Told

Former Education minister David Coltart has waded into Zanu-pf’s deadly tribal factional and succession wars becoming the latest prominent figure to challenge vice president Emerson Mnangagwa to come clean on his mooted presidential aspirations.

This comes as Zanu-pf’s two major factions have been savaging each other with malicious intent ever since the images of Mnangagwa holding coffee mug with the words “I am the boss” emerged in the public domain a fortnight ago.

But Coltart who was recently quoted by an influential British magazine suggesting that Mnangagwa was the Zanu-PF bigwig who was most likely to succeed president Robert Mugabe said the midlands godfather needed to be upfront about his residential ambitions. – Daily News

Lightining Kills Three Family Members

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo |Three family members from Mushandike area of Masvingo were seriously burnt after a bolt of lightining struck their hut last week.

Mercy Ashley Masvaure (32) and her two sons Anyway (10) and Tatenda (6) were burnt to death after lightining struck their hut. Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson ,Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident.

“It is true three family members from Mushandike area were struck and killed by lightining,”said Mazula. Before the tragedy happened, Masvaure had gone to fetch water with her husband Nomore Munemo who ordered her to rush home as there was a storm gathering.

Munemo proceeded to the well to fetch water. Masvaure is said to have called his two sons who were herding goats instructing them to rush home and seek shelter. Unfortunately the three were struck and killed by lightning moments after getting into the hut. Shocked neighbours said the three were seriously burnt.

“We are still struggling to come to terms with what happened. You cannot not imagine the fact that we were talking to each other a few hours before the incident happened. It is really shocking and painful.I don’t know how to describe the incident because of the gravity of the matter,”said a neighbour. The police urged the public to seek shelter near lightining conductors to avoid tragedy.

Linda Masarira, Sex And The Thorough Beating! | OPINION

By Nomazulu Thata | Linda Masarira received “a healthy dose of beating.” Those are the words of journalist, Maynard Manyowa in yesterday’s article. This description Maynard made of a physically mutilated woman, is nasty and tasteless. I will find it difficult to forgive Maynard for this use of wording “healthy dose of beating.” There are in the journo’s words, connotations of shaming her, because of Linda’s younger lover: she is a decade older than the lover! Mugabe is (4) four decades older than Grace Marufu! So!

We women of Zimbabwe should condemn it. It confirms the worst of our misogynistic society: in our society women are nothing: no respect whatsoever. Physical violence against women is a crime itself regardless of the case in question. I am not privy to what transpired in the argument that led to this masculine brutality towards a woman and a mother. I am seriously concerned about the level of physical violence surrounding the case. She did not deserve this brutality for whatever reason.

In the picture… Linda Masarira at the Avenues’s Clinic Harare:

The image of Linda in that article – a woman beaten to pulp by some young lover, that beating is not justifiable: at best a coward, one to reduce a woman to that level, physically and emotionally. Such men who perceive their physical phallic power as superior to women should go for a second circumcision, without which they are just boys, not grown up humans. What is functioning in their bodies is just the spinal code and zero brain in the head.

Mako right now is nowhere to be seen! Linda is supposed to account for his missing! She landed in the hospital because of the beating. Such men are like snakes: its either they strike and bite or its running away.

My article today is not about male chauvinism in our society, but the role of a mother in a home. Mothers are cornerstones, the rock of the family, the home ticks if the mother is present. Ms. Jean Gasho exemplified to us how mothers should just be like a “mother hens” and how the mother-hen looks after its chickens. I could never have said it better than her full description of the importance of a female persona in a home where there are still growing children as old as two and sixteen years of age. Did we not shout at her when she eloquently highlighted what all of us should know about the warmth of the mother in the home and how it protects all of us, and its absence can have serious repercussions on the growth and general wellbeing of the children?

According to this article from Journalist Manyowa, Linda has five children with their fathers at large. This is not new at all to Zimbabwe, there are so many such single-headed families nowadays. I too am a single parent and there are a million more out there like me.

I need to ask myself questions regarding her beating by this young man called Makomborero, the young lover. Where were the children when Linda was being beaten by this Mako? Did they witness the humiliating episode, seeing their mother brutally beaten like that by seemingly a casual bed- friend to the mother? How do you as a child take in such physical vulgar meted on your mother: a woman you love so dearly?

If this article is to go by: how does mother-Linda who has a teenage daughter of sixteen, bring in man-friend, visibly younger than her and expose her children to such a questionable character, unpredictable, violent and barbaric persona? What does this teenage girl think about her mother right now? Notwithstanding that I have been seeing Linda on social media hanging around with young men in a ZRP car, seemingly carefree and enjoying the hippy life: dreadlocks and dark glasses posing on selfie for yet another photo-shoot to send to Face-book. (Mama what did you see in that creepy-scumbag, are you sure he is good for you and us?)

Linda Masarira, a mother of five, having stayed in Chikurubi Central Prison for eighty days should do better than what we all are reading in the news-media about her. She needed to come close to her children and make up for the time she was absent. Mothers with feeling for their children do that in most cases. We need men and women out there to fight the crude regime of Zanu PF yes. You do not however sacrifice your bowels for the revolution to take place. We should always know our priorities if you are a mother, a young mother like Linda. Linda’s priorities are wholly misplaced. We are 14 million people in Zimbabwe, she did not need to emotionally abandon her children and live a life of a scumbag to prove she is a revolutionary! Linda is by no account, not present in her children’s lives because she is dreaming about a revolution outside her home.

Dear Linda, single parenthood goes with a lot of responsibility. Single mothers need to know and spell the word sacrifice. As long as those children are growing up they need you 24/7. You cannot pass on responsibility of looking after children to a maid. If you do that you will regret later in life because you will lose those emotional and very intricate threads to your own children. Your political activities already put you on spotlight: your movements are traced: You are secretly followed by the CIO, you are the bread-winner, you must bread win for your kids, and there are no jobs in Zimbabwe. You put your kids in a serious situation full of uncertainties and insecurities: is it worth it? Are you sure you still can say political activism is a better option than bringing up your own children: children who look up at you as the sole provider; emotionally and otherwise, you have a toddler who is two years?

What is more worrying about you is: how many times have you casually talked about death in your videos: “I don’t mind if I die!” you said! Do you know what that will mean to your children if you died, some of whom have father who is deceased: we know you as a widow!

I can advise you once more; the advice Ms. Jean Gasho gave you for free of charge months back. Leave this revolution, it is not for you, you have serious responsibilities regarding your children at your home. Learn to make sacrifices by looking after your children first. Make those children better citizens of Zimbabwe first, you are young: 34 years you can always bounce back, come back to politics.

Try and get to know the political lives of Mrs. Thenjiwe Virginia Lesabe and Mrs. Ruth Chinamano. Those two women sacrificed for the revolution absolutely. Their children suffered too and to this date if you talk to their children and they will tell you how much they missed their mothers in their teen ages because the revolution took them away from them.

Some of the children never made it at all in life because the mother element was absent. Personally I suffered too when my mother was sent to the famous Chikurubi Prison in 1977 where you were not long ago. I wish my mother was present in my life, she was always absent. I am talking about my experience as an abandoned child.

We are fighting Zanu PF at another level of the struggle, and not the racist Smith Regime of yesteryear. As a mother of five you should never be told this but you should know this instinctively. Linda stay home and be a mother to your children. Learn to protect your children from men-friends coming into your home. They can be very dangerous to them.

Depending on donor aid is not sustainable Linda: find another occupation than to pose as a political activist you are evidently not one. As a mother myself, I am genuinely concerned about the welfare of you growing children and your apparent negligence and emotional abandonment towards them!

Mugabe Plots Another Genocide | OPINION

Tinotenda Mrewa | The predatory behavior by Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF on Zimbabwean citizens living in the diaspora citizens is unwarranted and an exercise in futility that is tantamount to a declaration of genocide. The sentiments issued by Dr Masimba Mavaza, a ZANU PF functionary, calling opposition activists in the diaspora as treasonous elements is breath-taking and a direct threat to the safety of opposition activists based in the United Kingdom should they return to Zimbabwe.

Such reckless sentiments not only put to risk citizens in the diaspora but their families back in Zimbabwe, it is a callous act of genocide placing the lives of fellow citizens at risk at the hands of a merciless Mugabe regime which has a track record of hunting down political dissidents.

To refresh our minds and the gravity of this issue, the same regime stands accused for the murder of Roleen Gandiwa in South Africa sometime in 2016 and inland Zimbabwe has been a fertile ground for the murder of opposition activists that include Learnmore Jongwe, Tonderai “Seji”Ndira, Better Chokururama and Talent Mabika among a list of 300 activists assassinated at the beginning of the millennium. Of late the ZANU PF government is responsible for the disappearance of Itai Dzamara who was abducted by suspected state security agents on 09 March 2015.

The statements from ZANU PF activists have well been known to be in sync with the party mentality and policy towards those that hold different views on the political trajectory in Zimbabwe. It goes without saying that activists that visit their families should be on the watch as their safety will not be guaranteed following these overzealous sentiments.

It is this same government that is at the forefront of begging the diaspora contingent to finance the economy back home through the diaspora remittances that amount to US$2 billion annually yet they have the audacity to attack the same, label and put at risk.

To add to this deplorable second class treatment of the diaspora population, the same government deliberately does not want us to participate in elections yet the constitution is clear on the diaspora vote.

Meanwhile opposition activities in the diaspora must continue anchoring protest action and advocacy on the right to vote, an end to mass murders, closure of democratic space and the freeing of Zimbabwe from a predatory public administration. The sentiments by unguided elements should not deter our efforts at ridding Zimbabwe of a dictatorial nonagenarian in 2018, Mugabe and Minions Must Go!

Mujuru Claims Victory

THE Joice Mujuru-led opposition Zimbabwe People First says it has pulled all the stops to ensure a resounding victory for its parliamentary candidate, Kudakwashe Gopo, in the Bikita West by-election this weekend.

Gopo’s election agent, Desire Nyahunda, told Southern Eye yesterday that losing the by-election, the first to be contested by his party, would signal a death knell for Mujuru’s political project.

He said they were confident of winning the seat despite the widespread intimidation, vote-buying and scare tactics by Zanu PF supporters.

“The campaigns are on, temperatures are rising by the day considering the resentment by the constituency to be cowed by Zanu PF threats and goodies. Attempting to unleash violence proved risky to them and they resorted to threatening the unknown after elections, if they lose,” Gopo said.

“Zanu PF cannot survive without vote-buying and it is a ploy that they have always used. They are dishing rice, seed, maize, fertilisers among other goodies.”

ZimPF interim youth spokesperson, Khulani Ndlovu, said ruling party supporters had resorted to threatening unspecified action should the party lose, but Zanu PF has denied the accusations.

“Despite intimidation, which varies from issuing electronic cards, purporting to be election agents taking a pre-vote exercise to ascertain whom the electorate voted, and other tactics, losing Bikita West is not an option. In this terrain, ZimPF stands the highest chances of grabbing the seat,” he said.

Gopo will contest against Zanu PF’s Beauty Chabaya, independent candidate and former MP, Heya Shoko, Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe’s Terrence Makumbo, National Constitutional Assembly’s Maddock Chivasa and another independent, Innocent Muzvimbiri. – Newsday

Germany Holds Zim Women As Sex Slaves

Government has dispatched teams to Germany to investigate cases where local women who were offered scholarships by human trafficking agents disguised as college facilitators are now being held as sex slaves, an official has said.

Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development Minister Nyasha Chikwinya said in an interview that the Zimbabwean women were now stuck in the European country after being promised free and affordable university studies.

She said the Ministry of Home Affairs, security agents and embassies were tasked to deal with the matter.

“I have also been talking to our ambassador in Germany; there is something happening there and I will be talking to you about that,” said Minister Chikwinya in an interview. “There is some place in Germany where they (the women) are being taken to, Zimbabweans, and being kept there.

“This is true, we do not come here to lie, these are facts. I was talking to my permanent secretary that we have another issue that is coming up and we have so many girls that have gone out there.

“The programme started as a rosy one where they would be learning language and go to school later, but the tables have turned and this is what I wanted to share with you and this is what we are taking on board as Zimbabwe.”

Minister Chikwinya said of late there was an increase of human trafficking, where young women were being grossly abused even in some European countries.

Reports have revealed that the human trafficking agents have been facilitating migration of young women to Germany after promising them some university education.

Once they arrive, the women are whisked off to remote parts of the country where they are exposed to severe cases of sexual and physical abuse.

“It is depressing to note that even countries in the West can be involved in human trafficking, yet we thought we were in the final stages of exposing it,” said Minister Chikwinya.

“This is something we thought they would help us come on board and expose the scourge, but here we are with several reports of the Western country involved in this.”

Minister Chikwinya said human trafficking required urgent global attention.

“We would also want to talk about this horrible scourge at the African Union (AU) and the United Nations levels, where we will be showing videos and pictures of the level of abuse our women have gone through,” she said.

“At times, I don’t agree with the diplomacy that is involved in these issues because when this happens, there are diplomatic ties between countries. We have those diplomatic relationships and they need to be protected, but what of the women who are being abused?”

Minister Chikwinya said Government would not tire in its fight against human trafficking.

“Zimbabwe is the only African country that has taken head-on the issue of human trafficking to an extent of going to those countries and demanding that the girls be freed,” she said.

Last year, several Zimbabwean women were rescued with the help of teams that went to Kuwait where they were being held as slaves after being promised work as domestic workers.

A number of Zimbabweans, including some workers at the Kuwait embassy, have since appeared in court facing several charges of human trafficking. – State Media

Econet Wireless to Raise $130 million to Pay Debts

Econet Wireless Holdings plans to raise $130 million — possibly the biggest ever local capital raise — through the issue of additional shares and debt as it bids to clear foreign loans, but the company will require shareholders to make offshore payments as part of the transaction.

Econet owes a consortium of creditors — China Development Bank, African Export Import Bank, Ericsson and South Africa’s Industrial Development Corporation — just over $128 million. But the company says it has increasingly found it difficult to service the loans due to foreign currency shortages in Zimbabwe.

“In recent months it has become clear that there is a critical shortage of foreign currency in the overseas nostro accounts of Zimbabwe’s banks, and that the flow of local USD cash that those banks can export to fund their nostro accounts has diminished materially. This has made it extremely difficult for the Company and its subsidiaries to service their financial obligations to lenders and creditors outside Zimbabwe,” Econet said in a circular to shareholders on Tuesday.

In a bid to avoid a damaging default on the foreign loans, Econet is asking its shareholders to pay for their rights issue shares in US Dollars directly to the Egypt-based Afrexim Bank, where the telecommunications giant holds a debt service account.

“The Company intends to raise foreign currency from its members by way of a Rights Offer of shares and Linked Debentures. It is a condition of the proposed Rights Offer that the members shall follow their rights by paying the proceeds of the offer in United States Dollars directly outside Zimbabwe into the Company’s debt service account with AFREXIM Bank outside Zimbabwe,” Econet said.

Between 2012 and 2014, Econet secured more than $460 million in multi-creditor loans to expand its network and refinance earlier facilities. The company said it intends to clear its secured long term loan obligations, which now stand at $128 million, using the rights issue and debenture cash.

In terms of the capital raising proposal, Econet seeks to raise $67.26 million through the rights offer and $62.75 million through debentures — a debt instrument with fixed interest used by firms to raise cash.

However, the transaction hinges on approvals by the central bank, which has maintained a stringent priority list for foreign payments since May 2016 as it seeks to manage a biting foreign currency shortage in the economy, of offshore payments for locally held shares.

Hard-up Zimbabwean minorities have, in recent years, struggled to follow their rights in similar transactions. The requirement to make offshore payments is likely to add to the difficulty.
Econet Wireless Global, the privately held anchor shareholder in Econet Wireless Zimbabwe with a 30 percent stake, will underwrite the transaction and could be the biggest beneficiary should the offer be significantly under-subscribed.

The offer price of US$0.05 is at a significant discount from Econet’s share price of $0.3 on the ZSE.

Econet, which postponed its annual general meeting last July, will seek shareholders approval for the proposed transaction at an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for Harare on February 3.

The company has seen its revenue and profitability declining amid Zimbabwe’s economic slowdown. Revenue came down from $753 million in FY2014 to $641 million in FY2016, while profit after tax came down to $40.2 million in FY2016 compared to $119.4 million in FY2014.

Warriors Ready For Senegal

ZIMBABWE captain Willard Katsande has dismissed speculation the Warriors staged another protest yesterday over bonuses and reiterated his men were firmly focused on their next Afcon Group B qualifier against Africa’s top-ranked side Senegal tomorrow night.

The match gets underway at 9PM.

The Warriors didn’t train in the morning yesterday after having held a 90-minute workout on Monday night, and it fed into speculation the players had boycotted training after allegedly clashing with Zifa over how much they should be paid for the point they picked in the 1-1 draw against Algeria.

“We never said we are not going to train but it was recovery day because we played on Sunday night and last night the guys who were on the bench played a friendly match to keep the fitness levels high and then the coach decided to give the whole day off and train at night and so we are training tonight (last night),’’ Katsande told our Harare Bureau.

Team manager Sharrif Mussa said the training schedule he had been given by coach Callisto Pasuwa to use for logistical planning did to include a workout in the morning.

“My schedule did not have a training session (in the morning) but what I got was an instruction from the HOD (Omega Sibanda) to bring my schedule of payments because they wanted to pay a draw bonus for the players for the game against Algeria and all this was done without any dispute,’’ Mussa said.

Katsande said they were focused on their next match.

“The guys are now looking at the next game against Senegal. The Algerian game is now behind us. We have to make sure that we come up with a result,” said Katsande.

“Everyone knows what we should do. We are happy with the first game, we showed everyone that we are not a small team. We told them before the game and now there is a bit of respect that we see here where we are staying.”

The Warriors were scheduled to train in the evening yesterday.

Striker Cuthbert Malajila believes they have to forget about the missed chances against Algeria.

The Warriors striker got what was one of the best chances to seal victory against Algeria, but decided to go for glory when Kuda Mahachi, who was unmarked in the box, was the best option.

That chance and efforts saved by the Algerian goalie saw the Warriors settling for a draw in a match they could have caused one of the tournament’s major upsets.

“In a game of football, when you are playing a game as a striker, you want to score goals. Sometimes it won’t happen as you want. We as a team wanted to win the game for the nation. That is why we are a team and we want to do it for the nation. Everyone out there when they see us, they are supporting and encouraging us. When you miss a chance, it is a different thing because as a player you want to get goals and when you do not score, it is a different scenario. But what can we do as a team? We have to fix that,” said Malajila.

Against Senegal, the Warriors will come up against English Premiership side Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

Malajila said: “I don’t want to talk about individuals because we played as a team against Algeria. We have seen Senegal. They are big and skilful, but we know what we can do. We were supposed to win that game; we were supposed to take three points, but that was not to be. We will train under floodlights and see how it is like and be ready for battle. I believe it was a game of two halves. We controlled the first half and they had the second half. Next game we will be fine and take it up. I think as a team we are prepared that is why we have qualified to be this far. The coach has been selecting the players that he knows can do the job at anytime. Remember, we have 11 players on the pitch, so nothing is impossible. We’ve done it before as a team and we can do it against Senegal.”

Right-back Hardlife Zvirekwi believes they have managed to ensure they get respect after the Algeria game. But respect alone will not appease this ambitious group of players based in the town of Moanda.

Zvirekwi said after the 2-2 draw, they set themselves a target of beating Senegal.

“We went onto the match with the underdog tag. We are on a mission to do the country proud and we are on a mission to make sure that we do better than the (Warriors) teams that came to Afcon before. Obviously to play against those big guys because those guys are playing at a very high level, it needs courage. It’s a privilege for some of the players playing in the lower leagues to rub shoulders with the big guys. It gives us an idea of where we are as players,” said Zvirekwi.

“It is not going to be an easy match and I never thought there was going to be any easy match in this tournament. I think Senegal are going to be tough and we need to stand as a team. We will need to go there and put up a fight against them. Obviously as underdogs, people didn’t know much about us. But after that game, they are now aware of what we can do as a team. So we are ready to give our best as a team.

“Now you can now underestimate us at your own peril. With all due respect to the teams that are in the same group with us, they have to know that we are ready to give a real fight. Obviously at this level of competition you have to go there and fight regardless of who they are. Football being football, you have to face skilful players and those playing at a high level. We look forward to counter our opponents by relying on our strengths,” Zvirekwi said. – State Media

Shocker As 15 Zimbas Break Out Of Botswana Jail

POLICE in Botswana have launched a manhunt for 15 Zimbabwean prisoners, some of them dangerous, who escaped from a jail in Francistown after cutting the security fence.

Three of the inmates have since been arrested following their escape from Gerald Estates Centre for illegal immigrants on Saturday afternoon.

Francistown deputy police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Dipheko Motube confirmed the incident yesterday.

He said they had launched a manhunt for 12 Zimbabweans who remain unaccounted for following the escape.

“We’ve launched a manhunt for the prisoners. Police officers, soldiers and intelligence officers have been deployed in and around Francistown, including the country’s borders,” said Snr Supt Motube.

Botswana Prisons Services northern regional commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Sekano Sekano said the prisoners used the lid of a manhole to cut the security fence.

He said three inmates were arrested on Sunday and they are Mlindeli Moyo, Sicelo Sibanda and Methuli Sibanda.

Moyo and Sicelo, Snr Asst Comm Sekano said, were on remand awaiting trial for murder while Methuli was awaiting trial on charges of illegally possessing ivory.

They were arrested at Tati Siding village near Francistown.

He named those still on the run as Rowland Moyo, Godwin Mapunga Nyika, Elvis Ndlovu, Zikhamani Ndebele, Edwin Ncube, Thabani Ncube, Sunganai Batiraushe, Brilliant Thabani, Innocent Nyoni and Charlotte Ndlovu.

The names of two others who also escaped were not immediately available.

“The 15 prisoners destroyed the security fence using a manhole lid before running into the bush at the weekend. We’ve notified the police in Botswana and the security forces in Zimbabwe.

“The escapees were arrested for different crimes in Botswana, which include murder, robbery, possession of ivory, housebreaking and theft,” said Snr Asst Comm Sekano.

Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could not immediately comment on the matter. – State Media

Gruesome Murder, Armed Robbery In SDA Church

A SECURITY guard at the Seventh Day Adventist church-run Pelandaba Primary School in Bulawayo died after he was savagely attacked by four armed robbers during a raid in which two laptops and cash amounting to $200 were stolen early yesterday morning.

Buton Skalongo died on admission to Mpilo Central Hospital while his colleague Mr Vusa Tshuma survived the attack.

Four men broke into the school and church, which are located on the same premises, at around midnight yesterday and brutally attacked the two security guards.

They allegedly tied them with ropes and left them in a passage.

The armed robbers escaped unnoticed after stealing $200 and two laptops from the school guard room and the church safe.

Both Mr Tshuma and Mr Skalongo were rescued at around 6AM and rushed to Mpilo hospital.

Mr Skalongo died on admission to the hospital while Mr Tshuma was treated and discharged.

The Chronicle visited the scene yesterday and heard how the four men armed with iron bars raided the premises.

“These men were both guards for the school and church and we found them tied with ropes in the morning. Skalonga was severely attacked and his blood was splashed on the school floor,” said Pelandaba resident Ms Sihle Nyathi.

“It’s so sad that robbers have resorted to attacking churches thereby evoking God’s wrath.

“We will greatly miss Skalongo who had served this church for more than 30 years. I will miss his harmonica pieces he normally delivered during worship.”

SDA West Zimbabwe Conference spokesperson Pastor Tadius Nkanyezi said the church was in mourning.

“We had a break in yesterday night at Pelandaba Primary School and church and two guards who were manning the premises were severely attacked.

Unfortunately, one of them, Skalongo, died at hospital and the other one survived.

“We hope investigations will help us identify the four men. We are working on getting the fuller details,” he said.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said investigations were underway.

“We attended the crime scene at Pelandaba Primary School and Church where four unidentified men broke in and stole laptops and cash,” she said.

“We urge members of the public to help us to patrol their neighbourhoods and apprehend suspicious characters. They must also desist from carrying dangerous weapons at any time as we will treat everyone as a suspect.”

Insp Simango said people should be careful and report any suspicious activities to the police.

“Once more I will advise people to stop keeping money and valuables in safes or strongrooms as grinder-wielding criminals are on the loose.

“If possible they must even paste notices next to wide open safes and strongrooms advising everyone that they don’t keep cash or keys in those premises,” she said. – State Media

No Bonus Cash As Govt Announces Civil Servants Salaries

THE Government does not have money to pay civil servants their bonuses yet, but will next week convene a crunch meeting to map the way forward.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Prisca Mupfumira yesterday told The Chronicle that she would meet the Minister of Finance and Economic Development Patrick Chinamasa and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mangudya on January 25 to discuss the way forward on the issue of bonuses.

“The Government doesn’t have money at the moment. This makes it difficult for us to announce dates. We don’t want to make promises that we’ll not be able to fulfill as the Government.

“Minister Chinamasa, myself and hopefully Dr Mangudya will meet on January 25 to map the way forward,” said Minister Mupfumira.

She said she would also meet the Apex Council, the umbrella body that represents all civil servants, to discuss the same issue.

The Minister also confirmed pay dates for January salaries.

The army will be paid today while those in the health sector will be paid on Friday.

Members of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services and police will be paid on January 24 while those in the education sector will receive their salaries on January 30.

The rest of the civil servants will be paid on February 3.

Pensioners will be paid their allowances on February 7 while those working at grant aided institutions will be paid on February 10.

Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (Zimta) chief executive officer Mr Sifiso Ndlovu yesterday said the Government must ensure that they get all what is due to them.

“Right now we’re implementing a new curriculum which is so taxing in terms of work and planning. The least of things you should worry about is your financial concern,” he said.

Mr Ndlovu said civil servants were anxiously waiting to be informed about their bonuses.

“This is what I made reference to at the beginning of the term. The Government must come clean with a plan of paying bonuses to alleviate the issue of anxiety. Our encouragement is that as quickly as possible, the Government should activate the National Joint Negotiation Council. Make it a council that can make decisions not the current status where it is taken as a reference point,” he said. – State Media

Zanu PF Is Taking Bikita-West – Mliswa

Norton independent legislator Mr Temba Mliswa yesterday tipped zanu-pf to win the Bikita West by-election this Saturday.

Mr Mliswa won the Norton seat as an independent candidate last year.

Addressing a Press conference in Harare, Mr Mliswa said opposition coalitions were not effective on the electoral field.

“You cannot win an election without a component of zanu-pf,” he said. “zanu-pf is the ruling party and for the coalition to think, even if they gather, no matter how big it might be, their numbers are not big enough to beat zanu-pf and that is the truth of the matter.”

“MDC has lost before and people should not put pressure on zanu-pf since this was an independent seat and it is up to the MDC to reclaim it,” he said.

“What is the percentage of the 2013 elections? Over 60 percent zanu-pf, less than 40 percent it was the opposition. If you put the figures together, how do you come in (opposition coalition)?”

Mr Mliswa said he respected President Mugabe because he gave him confidence as an African.

“I respect President Robert Gabriel Mugabe for he gave me confidence as a black man so that we do not fear any other race,” he said. “We believe that we are superior. He has a history that we cannot forget.”

Mr Mliswa dismissed opposition party claims of election rigging in Bikita West.

“Ballot stuffing does not happen,” he said. “Do not lie to people. Youth Advocate for Reform and Democracy (YARD) members are trained, they are coached to be polling agents and everyone who will be present there knows there is no such thing as ballot stuffing.”

Yard is Mr Mliswa’s organisation which he formed after being expelled from zanu-pf a few years ago.

Eyeing the Bikita West seat are zanu-pf Masvingo Women’s League provincial executive member Cde Beauty Chabaya, National Constitutional Assembly spokesperson Mr Madock Chivasa, Mr Terence Makumbo of Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe (PDZ), independent candidate Mr Innocent Muzvimbiri and former Bikita West legislator Mr Heya Shoko.

The seat fell vacant following the incarceration of Munyaradzi Kereke for ten years for rape.= State Media

Lazy Judges Slammed

A High Court judge is likely to be brought before a disciplinary committee by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) over poor performance and is now being viewed as a liability in the justice delivery system.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the official opening of the 2017 legal year on Monday, Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku did not name the judge, but said there was reasonable concern about the judge’s ability to perform.

“There are, however, one or two judges whose performance remains unacceptably poor,” he said. “In one instance, the Judicial Service Commission directed me to write a letter of reprimand to the judge concerned.”

The JSC, said Chief Justice Chidyausiku, dismissed the ‘’flimsy’’ excuses given by the judge who claimed had cleared all the cases assigned.

“The judge in question was warned of disciplinary action in the event of no improved performance,” he said.

The JSC has been criticised for basing its assessment of the performance of the individual judges solely on the written judgments bearing HH (High Court Harare) and HB (High Court Bulawayo) numbers.

But the modern trend is to minimise the writing of formal judgments that may, in fact, satisfy neither of the parties affected.

There is a shift even in the courts towards the use of other equally effective alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation, conciliations, compromise and arbitration.

A judge with a high degree of success in achieving settlements out of court is no less hardworking than the next judge with a higher number of HH and HB judg-ments.

Apart from dealing with HH and HB judgments, the judges also deal with other matters which the JSC seems not to consider such as trial matters, opposed and unopposed applications, chamber applications, pre-trial conferences, electoral and fiscal matters, civil and criminal appeals and criminal reviews.

In 2015, Chief Justice Chidyausiku torched a storm after he criticised “under-performing” High Court judges during the official opening of the 2015 judicial year.

He claimed that one of the judges had managed to deliver only two judgments during the course of the year.

The High Court judges hit back, saying Chief Justice Chidyausiku was out of touch with the modern judiciary delivery trends. They wrote a petition to him demanding that he withdraw his statement, which they said was made in bad faith.

Two years after the criticism, most High Court judges’ performance has vastly improved.

The outgoing Chief Justice Chidyausiku said he had no regrets over his criticism of the performance by all judicial officers, especially by High Court judges.

He said he was happy that since that date, most judges’ performance had improved remarkably.

“In some instances, the performance of those judges who had previously underperformed has surpassed my expectations,” he said.

Mnangagwa Declared Clean On Gukurahundi

Firebrand Norton Constituency legislator, Temba Mliswa has laid into the highly divisive Gukurahundi atrocities matter, claiming the genocide attacks were a political move by the Zezuru tribe, led by President Robert Mugabe against the southern tribes.

Mliswa who since his dismissal from the ruling Zanu PF party has never fallen short of controversy, said the genocide attacks which took place in the early 80s, were  a result of President Mugabe’s plot to eliminate Kalangas and Ndebeles whom he viewed as a threat to his governance.

He said, together with Sydney Sekeremayi who was the Minister of National Security and the late Solomon Mujuru, the then Army General, Mugabe brutally killed more than 20 000 people mainly from the Midlands and Matebeleland provinces.

“We can try and ignore the Gukurahundi issue for as long as we want, but someone has to come out and talk about it. Someone has to be held accountable for the atrocities which killed more than 20 000 of our brothers, mothers, sisters and fathers,”

“To put the record straight, the genocide was caused by the Zezuru tribe which has ruled this country for the past 36 years with an iron grip. The Zezurus have always wanted to eliminate the people from the southern parts of the country, so the Gukurahundi was just there to eliminate other tribes in order for the Zezurus to maintain supremacy over everyone,” alleged Mliswa.

“Do no blame the likes of (Air Marshal) Perrence Shiri for the atrocities, but blame Rex Nhongo (Solomon Mujuru) and President Mugabe for the killings because they were the ones in influential positions. They are the ones who could give orders of the killings,” Mliswa further said.

Despite his alleged influential role, Temba Mliswa distanced Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa from the brutal killings saying he was not and could have not been involved on the basis that he was not in any influential position.

“It is well known that Vice President Mnangagwa was the CIO Boss and that means he had no say in whatever was happening. Those who want to draw his name into this whole mess are misinformed,” said Mliswa.

The outspoken former Zanu PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairman, said the country cannot be held at ransom by one tribe and that the balance of power must not be on one side adding that the time for a new tribe to rule has come.

He said for 2018 election campaigns, he will discourage people in his village from voting for Zanu PF as the war has turned tribal since the top hierarchy in the ruling party is largely composed of Zezuru people.

“As we go into the 2018 election mode, we are saying it is enough, we cannot let the country be held at ransom by one tribe for 37 years. We cannot be monopolised by one tribe so I will discourage the people in my village from voting. I’m a village head so they will listen to me,” bragged Mliswa.

He blamed the Zanu PF leadership of side lining Ndebeles and Kalangas from holding influential positions in the ruling party as he said “Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko knows he has no power and he does not dream of being a president because those Zanu PF guys do not want anyone from Matebeleland to be in that position,” Mliswa added.

Nigerian preacher, TB Joshua has been humiliated after his prediction that the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane would be found within days flopped, with the search ending yesterday without a trace (nearly) 3 years later.

Millions of dollars have been wasted by the governments of China, Australia and Malaysia after TB Joshua 3 years ago misled the world claiming that (back then on March 15th 2014), the whole plane would be found within days.

“Despite every effort using the best science available … the search has not been able to locate the aircraft,” Malaysian, Australian and Chinese authorities said in a statement.

TB Joshua who is Walter Magaya’s so called “spiritual father” even claimed he was the only “servant of God” God told that the plane would be found within days of his prediction in March 2014, (SEE HIS DIRECT WORDS VERBATIM AND THE VIDEO BELOW).

This classic expose by ZimEye.com, is further evidence on how Joshua not only makes predictions of chance, but preys on simple minds using cunning video editing techniques, SEE THE 3rd VIDEO BELOW.

ZimEye avails below TB Joshua’s false MH370 prophecy as it was in March 2014, and next to it.. the preacher’s new video (click to watch it directly from the man’s Emmanuel TV church channel) uploaded a year later which is heavily edited (SEE BELOW)…

The second video is the preacher’s NEW VIDEO EDIT COPY which has been chopped off the following declarations: “They don’t know where the plane is. I am the only minister if not only me…that God used to speak about this issue. But the whole thing is coming to an end. I say the whole thing has come to an end. Coming to an end in the sense that they will discover the plane. They will discover the particles. they will discover…Everything will end, any moment from now (- April 2014), any moment from now. So this coming week we are not going to talk about it, rather the family concerned will know their fate. From this coming week we will no longer talk about it again. Rather the families concerned will know their fate.”

Horror As Lightning Kills 6 At Funeral

SIX people who were among villagers attending a funeral in Binga District on Sunday were struck and killed by lightning while three others sustained severe burns. Other reports say they could have been 11 dead.

The deceased and the injured who are all from Chief Siachilaba’s area, had taken a shelter under a tree when a bolt of lightning struck, killing the six.

A hut at the chief’s homestead was also struck by lightning at the same time but no one was killed or injured.

Chief Siachilaba said yesterday that the six who died and those who sustained burns were attending his late sister’s funeral at her homestead when tragedy struck.

He said when it started raining, some of the people attending the funeral took shelter under the tree which was later struck by lightning.

Chief Siachilaba said in their culture, they gather for four days after one’s death and tragedy struck on the fourth day.

“There were few houses at the homestead forcing other people to seek shelter under the tree which was later struck by lightning,” said Chief Siachilaba.

He said those who sustained burns were rushed to Binga District Hospital and have since been discharged.

Siachilaba village head, Mr Joe Mudimba, said his village was going through one of its darkest moments following the tragedy.

“We’re in deep shock because of what happened in our village. This is one of the darkest moments in the village and entire district. As I’m speaking right now all the shops in the village are closed because everyone is grieving. It’s sad that we lost mostly elderly people including a veterinary officer,” said Mr Mudimba.

A villager, Mr Bazala Sinyele, said the scene after the bolt of lightning struck was horrific.

“We provided the vehicle to rush the burnt victims to a nearby clinic where they were later transferred to Binga District Hospital. An ambulance crew which came to the scene at around 6AM confirmed the six dead,” said Mr Sinyele.

Efforts to get a comment from Matabeleland North provincial acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Eglon Nkala were fruitless as his cellphone was not reachable. – State Media

Chidyausiku Torments Mnangagwa

OUTGOING Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku yesterday revealed the extent of government interference in the judiciary, amid claims that a member of the Executive wrote a fake letter trying to stop the process of appointing judicial officers.

With the top judge set to retire at the end of next month, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) set in a motion a process to replace him, but an unnamed government official is said to have clandestinely tried to stop the process, but failed.

A lawsuit to stop the process soon followed, but yesterday the Chief Justice lifted the lid on the behind-the-scenes machinations meant to stop the process.

In his speech to mark the official opening of the 2017 legal year, he said he realised there was potential for conflict, as the process to appoint his successor was markedly different from the previous one and he informed the Executive of this and when he received no response, he inferred that it meant the government had no issues with the new procedure.

“I was surprised to receive communication a few days before the interviews were to commence that an Executive order had been issued ordering the JSC to stop the interviews of filling the post of Chief Justice,” he said.

“I responded to the communication, advising that the Executive’s directive could not be complied with without breaking the Constitution and that the interviews would proceed as planned and in terms of the Constitution.”

Then Chief Justice Chidyausiku dropped the bombshell: “I have since established that the President never issued the alleged Executive order to stop the interviews.”

He said since they reaffirmed their decision to be guided by the Constitution in choosing his successor, a certain section of the media had decided to impugn the JSC, a subtle attack on State media, which has seemingly chosen a factional slant in the debate on choosing the next Chief Justice.

The Chief Justice did not reveal who was responsible for the said Executive order, although last year it was reported that chief secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda, had written to the JSC seeking to halt the interviews.

Sibanda is said to be a key ally of Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, as Zanu PF factional fights continue to dominate the news.

To add to that, Mnangagwa, in his capacity as being in charge of the Justice ministry, wrote to the courts and the JSC informing them of an impending constitutional amendment to change the way judges are appointed — as he sought to have the President to have the sole prerogative — further muddying the waters.

Under the Constitution, JSC interviews four candidates and forwards three names to the President.

“In the proposed amendment, he [the President] will be at large to choose the next CJ from the bench. Thus, whichever method is used, in the final analysis, it is the President’s choice that will prevail,” Chief Justice Chidyausiku said.

The judiciary seems to be the site of Zanu PF’s latest turf war, as factions squabble on the procedure to appoint the Chief Justice, raising fears they may want to influence judgments.

REVEALED : Mugabe’s Media Mastery

President Robert Mugabe still rules Zimbabwe at age 92, making him the world’s oldest sitting president.

And while his party, the Zanu-PF, is in strife over who will come after him, the state media’s dilemma is how to report the succession battles – with talking about Mugabe’s succession being an editorial red line.

State-owned news outlets such as The Herald newspaper and the Zimbabwean Broadcasting Corporation remain loyal to Mugabe, but even they are backing one faction in the Zanu-PF – albeit indirectly – by attacking the other.

Mugabe’s message is clear: the media has no place in Zimbabwe’s political future.
But with ripples from last year’s anti-government protests still in the air and instability at an all-time high, the silenced social media campaigns and wary journalists make for a concerning overview of the coverage surrounding Mugabe’s succession.

An example of the uncomfortable relationship betwen the media and the government occurred in December 2016, when President Mugabe was seen struggling to leave the podium after a speech.

“When the minister [of information] was asked about the president’s health, he became very hostile; he asked the reporter who had sent him to ask those questions. This explains the kind of relationship that we have with the minister of information. They suspect that the private media is pushing a foreign agenda against the president,” says Kholani Nyathi, editor at privately owned paper The Standard.

But what does this mean for Mugabe’s successor and how does this affect the Zimbabwean media story in the long term?

ELECTION CRISIS: Four Ministers Resign from Jammeh Govt

The Gambia’s ministers for finance, foreign affairs, trade and the environment have resigned from President Yahya Jammeh’s government, according to ministry sources and state television.

The resignations were announced on Tuesday less than a day after the country’s Chief Justice Emmanuel Fagbenle pulled out of a case filed by Jammeh seeking to stop the inauguration of President-elect Adama Barrow.

Fagbenle said late on Monday that he could not hear the new case, dealing a blow to Jammeh’s efforts to halt the inauguration of Barrow, who remains in Senegal.

The inauguration is scheduled for Thursday, when Barrow is expected to return from Senegal.

“Given that the injunction affects me in my capacity as the chief justice, I will recuse myself from hearing it,” he said.

“The motion therefore waits for the constitution of the Supreme Court or allow the judges to arrive in The Gambia.”

Edward Gomez, a lawyer for Jammeh’s party, conceded that it was “certainly not possible under these circumstances” to have an injunction barring Barrow from being sworn in.

On Tuesday, Morocco’s Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar and a top secret service official arrived in The Gambian capital Banjul to hold talks with Jammeh, Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque reported from neighbouring Senegal.

There have been talks of a possible asylum or exile for Jammeh to an African country, in exchange for him stepping down.

The small West African country has been plunged into political turmoil since Jammeh disputed Barrow’s December election victory and refused to cede power.

Jammeh has lodged a challenge to the election result with The Gambia’s Supreme Court and last week filed a fresh injunction to prevent the chief justice from swearing Barrow into office.

Last week the Supreme Court said Jammeh’s challenge to the election result could not be heard for several months as it did not have a full bench, and the extra judges needed to hear the case were not available.

The Gambia relies on foreign judges, notably from Nigeria, to staff its courts due to a lack of its own trained professionals.

With tensions running high, Jammeh said on Sunday that he had spoken to Liberian leader Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and was adamant he would not budge until the Supreme Court had heard his challenge to the poll result.

“The so-called deadline of January 19, 2017, is not cast in stone and all parties shall await the outcome of the Supreme Court,” he said on state television.

Leaders of neighbouring countries and the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, have repeatedly called on the long-serving strongman to leave office peacefully, so far to no avail.

As well as Sirleaf, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Ghana’s President John Mahama, who left office 10 days ago, have appealed to Jammeh to step down twice in person, without success, most recently on Friday.

Barrow was the surprise guest at a Bamako summit over the weekend, where he was welcomed as a head of state and introduced to several world leaders.

On Sunday, a personal tragedy struck his family when his eight-year-old son Habibou died after being bitten by dogs, according to a family source.

The prospect of military intervention in The Gambia has even been floated in recent days, following declarations by the United Nations and African Union that boots on the ground could get the green light without a rapid resolution of the crisis.

The head of the UN Office for West Africa and the Sahel said on Friday that ECOWAS would ask the Security Council to approve the deployment of troops to The Gambia if Jammeh continues to refuse to leave office.

On Friday, it was reported that the Nigerian military issued a memo to prepare 800 soldiers for a possible deployment in Gambia. There have also been reports that the Nigerian military has sought training and logistical support from British advisers before any military intervention.

Before his inauguration on Thursday, Barrow’s special adviser Mai Fatty read a statement on his behalf in Dakar, urging Gambians to “exercise restraint, observe the rule of law and not to respond to provocation”  – Al Jazeera and news agencies

War Vets Want Moyo Jailed

War veterans say they are baffled as to why Higher Education Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo is still a free man.
“We are also saying what has happened to Jonathan (Moyo)? Why is he not being arrested? Hakusi kuba here kwaakaita?
“Are we saying as a nation that what he did is not stealing and yet he says I stole the money and I bought bicycles for my constituency? Why is it that he becomes untouchable?
“We are saying as war veterans, ngaasungwe, ngaende kucourt. If he is innocent, the courts will exonerate him because we respect this important arm of the State — the judiciary. Jonathan (Moyo) must go to court. He must not become indispensable,” said Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) spokesperson Mr Douglas Mahiy.
He also said Zanu-PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere should concentrate on building the party than expelling members and dwelling on trivial issues that do not add value to the party.
Mahiya said: “I was in Mutare recently and there are lots of potholes; go to Chitungwiza and I think even in Bulawayo and other towns that is what is happening.
“The national political commissar is busy trying to remove us from the party, destroying the party and yet the Ministry of Local Government has failed dismally to deliver that which it has been mandated.
“Houses are being sold by people who are walking in the streets. “So, where is the council going to get the money to sustain its operations as a local authority? If you want a house, I can tell you that you can get it from a G40 chairman or chairwoman.
“That is happening in Chitungwiza and war veterans are saying no to that. “It’s corruption. Kasukuwere must know that it may take long, but one day, he will find himself in my position, him being expelled. He will never own zanu-pf. Nobody will ever own zanu-pf.”
Mr Mahiya’s remarks come in the wake of a meeting of zanu-pf provincial chairmen that was presided over by Kasukuwere that largely dwelt on who the party members should associate with. – Newsday

Tsvangirai Dashes to Matabeleland

Morgan Tsvangirai…

MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai is dashing into Matabeleland for session-teasers on his coalition plot for the 2018 elections. Below is the official announcement:

President Morgan Tsvangirai this week kicks off a national programme where he will go out to all the country’s provinces to interact as well as hear from the people themselves their views on a range of issues, among them the key issue of alliance building ahead of the next election.

He kicks off his national tour in Matabeleland South this Friday before proceeding to Matabeleland North, Bulawayo, Midlands, Masvingo and the rest of the provinces. This is a highly interactive tour where he shall be meeting ordinary people, party structures as well as opinion leaders in the country provinces  to hear them out on the crisis facing the country as well as other national issues, alliance building being  key among them.

President Tsvangirai, whom the party has given the responsibility of leading this process of working other political parties ahead of 2018, believes in the mass line and that every party action on this matter must be guided by the views and the direct input from the ordinary people.

The party through the national council, the supreme decision-making body between Congresses, has already adopted the principles for alliance building. The President’s interactive programmes are meant to further enrich the alliance building process so that the leadership proceeds and is informed by the people’s views and input.

President Tsvangirai values people’s participation and input on all important matters and is urging those who can attend the provincial engagement programmes to do so. Zimbabweans can also write in or send in their views to the party through our various social media platforms.

President Tsvangirai wants this all-important process of alliance building to be enriched and enhanced by direct people participation.

Let’s engage.

ALLURE : Sex And The African Beads

By Oluhle Sibanda |Since time immemorial beads have played an amazing role as a beauty accessory in the lives of African women. Beads made in various forms have always been used by African women to accentuate their beauty, giving them unique features compared to women from other continents.

However, researchers say the culture of adorning the waist with beads probably began in ancient Egypt where they were called “girdles” and were worn by women as a status symbol.

In West Africa, it is understood that the tradition was made popular by the Yorubas who wore beads for various reasons.

It might be for a good reason though it looks unusual. It might be fulfilling to their wishes, as many Zimbabwean girls are seen openly adorning these.

An elderly woman MaDlamini said; “there is more to it, it might be used as a vodoo/ juju to lure men cause I had a maid who had those. When I accidentally saw them she said she was given by her grandmother and it’s for luck with men.”

Really! Ladies can you keep such a helper in your house working around your husband? One can suggest that it is used in commercial sex work to lure men.

Could this waist belt have some spiritual supremacy? What does Christianity say about it if ever? There is bound to be reservations from the Christian community concerning the use of beads as these are associated with the other forms of spirituality, meaning not many Christian women will accept wearing these.

One male friend of mine said women go to traditional healers and sangomas to get these beads, warning men to beware of such women because they use their waist beads as a sex trap.

Are they for health reasons?

Growing up, many African girls were told tales of women who laced beads with charms and fragrances that made them irresistible to the opposite sex.

Certain in Zimbabwean communities women were famous for their charmed waist beads. In particular in Zimbabwe the Tonga and the Tshangani women are popular for their brazen use of beads in their daily lives. These charms are believed to possess the powers to entice and entrap the opposite sex and even improve their sexual prowess, according to other researchers.

This attribute no doubt contributes primarily to the negativity associated with waist beads.

The most popular perception of waist beads is its sex appeal. It is said that wives often lured their husbands with the rattle of beads or use them to communicate their fertility at certain times of the month.

Sexy is sexier when there’s a lot for the mind to imagine. This practice though now less popular, is perceived to be a major reason some women wear them.

Culture and Beauty

Research in Ghana indicates that it is regarded as the Bead Production Capital of the World perhaps because of the cultural relevance of beads to her people.

Like other west African countries, women have held a long fascination with beads, as symbolic and cultural ornaments of womanhood, sexuality, fertility, spirituality and wealth.

Traditionally, a set of beads for the wrists, neck, ankles, arms and waist formed part of culturally accepted feminine beauty and adornment for the African society.

Let’s suppose it’s for cultural purposes , closely look at the girl in question dressing and the way she displayed her waist beads. Really!

In West Africa, the tradition became such that a lady wears multiple strings of beads around her waist; and the only person allowed to remove them was her husband on her wedding night. Then wedding ceremonies used to be more symbolic than it is now, according to the magazine Nairaland.

The Yorubas particularly, would ask the couple to consummate their marriage on a bed laid with white clothing and show a blood stained fabric as proof that the lady was a virgin.

A stainless white cloth comes with a deluge of shame not only for the lady but her entire family. In other culture, the beads were adorned with bells, which was a signal to let a partner know that the woman was clean- meaning she is at the proper stage where sexual intercourse is allowed.

It’s only now that waist beads are becoming visible. They used to be considered as underwear exclusively worn under garments in Africa.

Floods Savage Harare

Staff Reporter |  The country is expected to receive heavy rains this week with a possibility of flooding in some areas, the Meteorological Services Department has warned.

The weather organisation has since advised responsible authorities to be high on alert as many people might need assistance.

The Civil Protection Unit has also warned of possible landslides in hilly slopes in susceptible areas. Farmers are likely to suffer heavy leaching and damage to their crop as a result of flooding and heavy downpours. Below are pics of some floods;

Maid Bonks Boss’ 14 Year Old Son

A 20-year-old Harare housemaid allegedly forced her employee’s son (14) to have sexual intercourse with her after threatening to report him to the police for raping her and threatening his family’s life.

Gladys Chukura allegedly told the 14-year-old boy that she wanted to teach him how to have sex and when he refused, she threatened to burn his mother and mutilate his six-month-old sister if he refused.

Chukura appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Rumbidzai Mugwagwa facing charges of aggravated indecent assault.

She was remanded in custody to January 30 and advised to make a bail application at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on December 21 at around 9pm, Chukura went into the complainant’s bedroom and told him that she wanted to teach him how to have sex.

It is alleged that Chukura advanced at the teenager and started kissing him.

It is the State’s case that the complainant told Chukura that he was not interested in having sex with her and ordered her to stop kissing him.

The court heard that Chukura verbally threatened the complainant that she would burn her mother who was her employer, mutilate his six-month-old sister and report him to the police that he had raped her.

It is alleged that the complainant got frightened and opted to give in to her demands resulting in Chukura having sexual intercourse with him without his consent.

It is the State’s case that the complainant finally got the courage to tell Chukura to stop and she stopped.

The complainant did not reveal the matter to anyone.

The matter came to light on January 11 when the complainant’s mother was informed by one of her neighbours that Chukura and the complainant act weird when they are together, the court heard.

The court heard that the complainant was interviewed by his mother and told her what happened. – State Media

Kasukuwere Savages Deplorable Mnangagwa Media

ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere has vented his anger at top scribes at the State-controlled Herald newspaper, accusing them of fanning factionalism instead of supporting “the [ruling] party and leadership”.

In a tweet directed at the Herald, Kasukuwere, who is believed to be a member of the Zanu PF G40 faction, said on Sunday: “@Herald Zimbabwe, editorial team has to change. You defend [businessman, Energy] Mutodi at the expense of the party and leadership. In your view he was correct?”

Mutodi, who is a fierce backer of Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Lacoste faction, recently caused a storm after he called on President Robert Mugabe to quit and leave his deputy — Mnangagwa — to take over.

Mutodi’s statements, which came after Mnangagwa hosted Zanu PF “renegades” and suspended party officials at a New Year’s party at his rural home in Zvishavane, were interpreted as having the Vice-President’s backing.

Kasukuwere’s tweet appears to be a direct response to an opinion published in The Herald on Saturday, which insinuated that some politicians were up against the paper for its reportage.

“Someone clearly sees a stumbling block in the ‘State media’ and has been heard many times whining about it and even calling for a change of guard at our newspaper stables,” read the opinion, authored by an anonymous columnist.

After the post, some of Kasukuwere’s followers attacked him for suggesting that the State media — which should be impartial — should support a particular political party.

Opposition politicians have always accused the State media of being the mouthpiece of Zanu PF, used for the party’s propaganda. – Newsday

MUGABE GONE : The Succession Fear Factor, Mnangagwa Vs Grace

Tinotenda Mrewa | Zimbabwe is on the verge of irredeemable collapse at a time that ZANU PF has expressed confidence in the leadership of President Robert Mugabe, today I will take a leap forward to explain the supposed ‘confidence in the leadership of the purported revolutionary leader’ and unpack the mysticism of succession politics in ZANU PF.

The reason why we devote so much effort on analysing the genealogy of politics in Zimbabwe is because of the warped political justice system that has seen the conflation of state and ZANU PF into one unit, that smacks of the ideals of both the liberation struggle and the modern democratic aspirations of generations to come.

By design, ZANU PF is presided over by an octogenarian leader who has all but been succeeding himself over the last four decades. The ruling party (ruling not governing) now finds itself in a precarious war to succeed Mugabe either by default or crook and factions are forced to lay praise on mediocrity.

Because of unresolved and absent succession plan the two major factions in ZANU PF (Mnangagwa’s Lacoste and the G40 fronted by Grace Mugabe, Kasukuwere and Jonathan Moyo with the support of Mugabe) find themselves either propping their images to succeed Mugabe or preferring the continuation of the status quo. Each faction has been on the rampage promising to annihilate the other in the event it takes over power, we have heard the likes of Tsenengamu and the ‘we will arrest you phenomenon’ as if the Lascoste faction has saints.

Similar sentiments are shared by blind followers like Ceasar Zvayi and the myopic Energy Mutodi and yet Zimbabwe cannot afford the leadership of Grace Mugabe and company, they are lethal surrogates of an obsolete system. A progressive Zimbabwe should never accommodate the presidency of either these two factions.

The continuation of the present will benefit either factions as they edge to annihilate each other preferring to rely in the adage quantum that given time either of the factions will disintegrate. Such divisions are at the core of the heavy electoral loss during the Norton by-election and manifested themselves in the spinning of context on the man and the famous mug inscribed “I’m the Boss.”

The stalemate in ZANU PF will only further impinge on personal and national development given what I have alluded to in earlier discussions and there is little hope that the party will find itself glued together in 2018 as in previous elections raising higher possibilities of the Bhora Musango phenomenon. However, there is no direct correlation between the developments in ZANU PF and the concept of power transfer to an opposition party.

Given the nature of carrot and stick politics that Mugabe has crafted over the last 37 in power none of the factions will be comfortable to come out in the open and support the exit of Mugabe in the impending ZANU PF electoral defeat in 2018. Mugabe’s two factions will prefer a stalemate and the overthrow of the existing is only an aspiration of democracy loving citizens.

What citizens should brace themselves is what the opposition still needs to share, that is, a strategy to defend the vote and mobilise for electoral success given the levels of demobilisation among citizens. In the absence of this strategy ZANU PF and Mugabe will not meet their Waterloo in 2018.

BLOODY ATTACK: Kwekwe Man Killed For Urinating In Public | WARNING DISTURBING PICTURES

Terrence Mawawa, Kwekwe |An enraged Kwekwe man, Tinashe Sibanda fatally assaulted a man who pulled out his manhood and urinated in front of the former and his girlfriend, killing him in the process.

Brighton Mlilo (31) of Amaveni Township, Kwekwe, was fatally assaulted by Sibanda after urinating in front of the latter who was walking with his girlfriend. Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Joel Goko, confirmed the incident and said the suspect was arrested after handing himself to the police. According to the police, Sibanda was walking with his girlfriend, Mininehle Ngwenya.

As they approached St Martins Primary School in Kwekwe, Mlilo pulled out his organ and urinated in front of the two. Sibanda did not take the incident lightly and attacked Mlilo.

The two began to fight and Sibanda hit Mlilo with an unidentified object others described as a machete causing him to fall unconscious and died instantly. When Sibanda realised that Mlilo was dead, he went to Kwekwe Police Station to report the matter.

The ZRP has confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that a man was assaulted and died in Amaveni after urinating in front of a man who was walking along with his girlfriend. The man (Sibanda) handed himself to the police immediately after the incident,”  said Goko.

Goko urged the public to desist from taking the law into their hands.  “It is always imperative for the public to respect the law. That way we can avoid unnecessary deaths,” he said. – ZimEye

Military Deployed Into Nyathi to Quell Tribal Mining Wars

Ray Nkosi |Reports just in from Nyathi in Bubi District Matabeleland North indicate that a serious tribal war between Ndebele and Shona speaking people is escalating amidst claims that soldiers have been deployed into the area.

About ten people were recently injured following bloody attacks in the area.

Sources told ZimEye.com that the Shona speaking miners referred to as “AmaShurugwi” in the area yesterday woke up to face a huge reinforcement of fellow miners from other areas as far as Nkayi and Kwekwe to help their colleagues defend their mining territory.

So far over twenty people have been brutally injured in the fights between the local Ndebele villagers who are demanding that the Shona speaking illegal miners  leave the area.

Posts circulating on social media also indicate that a group of Ndebele speaking people in Bulawayo has been gathering people to go to the area to fight off the miners. In a post sent to ZimEye.com by sources, the group claims that so far it has managed to fill up ten minibuses and is ready to dispatch the regiment to Nyathi this evening.

Meanwhile, two truck loads of heavily armed soldiers are said to have descended into the area to try and bring peace in the area. Police in the area said to have failed to handle the volatile situation resulting in the call for army reinforcements.

No comment has yet been made by the local Member of Parliament nor the district administration offices.

Police Hunt For Nude Teen Video Producer

Joylene Mtandwa | Reports from Gwanda indicate that police are on the hunt for persons who recorded a video of a teenage girl who was being forced to do laundry while naked by a wife who caught her in bed with her husband.

The nineteen year old girl who it has since emerged is a high school student appears in the videos recorded by several people, in tears as she is ordered by an angry woman, who does not appear in any of the videos, to wash the bed linen and clothing she had used while having sex with the woman’s husband.

Witnesses who spoke to ZimEye.com said that the girl arrived at the man’s house apparently being delivered by a “sister” who is a known “lady of the night” for an afternoon session with the man while the wife was away.

The wife acting on a tip off, returned home unexpectedly and found the two in bed with the girl in her birthday suit in her matrimonial bed. The husband is reported to have fled the scene living the girl at the mercy of the angry wife.

The wife stripped the girl naked and ordered her out of the house to wash the linen outside in the open resulting in neighbours and by passers stopping over to enjoy the “drama” and recorded videos of the girl doing the laundry naked.

Unprintable words are heard being said to the girl on the videos by both the wife and members of the public. Sources who claim to know the girl told ZimEye.com that the girl has since disappeared from the Gwanda community and her whereabouts have not yet be established.

Police in Gwanda would not confirm nor deny the incident saying that investigations are underway and if there are valid  facts enough to warrant the arrest of the culprits will be brought to book soon.

Human rights activists on social media he strongly condemned the dehumanizing reaction from the wife.

Netone Hikes Bundles Charges

Ray Nkosi |The government backed cellular phone service provider Netone, has also increased its social media bundles charges following a similar move by competitor Econet Wireless last week.

The giant service provider this week changed its unlimited social media bundles to 80 megabytes data for a weekly bundle on popular social media facilities WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter much to the disappointment of users who were beginning to migrate from Econet to Netone.

Netone was beginning to be the people’s preferred data provider with its unlimited daily, weekly and monthly packages which were not being offered by rival Econet who nearly doubled their charges in the price rise frenzy two weeks ago.

Netone has also removed from its bundles packages combo bundles that offered varied offers of combined social media bundles that were favoured by the consumers.

The changes in the charges follow a Post and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority POTRAZ directive at the end of last year which suggested that the charges were too low leading to massive abuse of social media.

Information and Technology Minister Supa Mandiwanzira however reversed the price increase directive last week leaving consumers confused how Netone was proceeding with the price adjustments regardless of the Minister’s directive not to have any adjustments on the prices.

While Econet Wireless has issued a statement that it has since reversed the price adjustments, Netone has not yet given an official statement on the matter.

Tsvangirai Hangs On Mugabe’s Last Breath

Staff Reporter| MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said his future is hanging on President Robert Mugabe’s life.

The MDC leader says his right to his Highlands mansion is limited to President Robert Mugabe’s life with whom he has a secret deal, SEE DIRECT WORDS BELOW.

Tsvangirai who has over the past years survived on the sole largess of President Robert Mugabe his boss during the Government of National Unity, is set for a bleak financial future after Mugabe dies.

Tsvangirai has defended his prolonged stay in the government owned Highlands mansion saying that only President Mugabe knows the deal and why he is still there.

When probed by journalists on earlier threats by Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere  to evict Tsvangirai from the  mansion in Highlands, he said: “I am not answerable to Saviour Kasukuwere. He doesn’t know anything about this house. He is just trying to make political hot air out of something that he doesn’t know. He doesn’t know that I have a house which has a contract and I advise him to talk to President Mugabe before he starts uttering something that he doesn’t know.”

To further compound Tsvangirai’s post Mugabe survival strategy, the former PM now also claims that a $70 000 handout from Mugabe was an entitlement, part of his pension benefit.

A weekly newspaper the Financial Gazette, however, pours cold water over Tsvangirai’s claims on many fundamental procedural issues to do especially with the right office that handles pensions.

Tsvangirai it is reported, is receiving benefits directly from Mugabe’s own pocket, that are not recognised in any stipulated Zimbabwean law, to make matters worse for the self proclaimed democrat, are not known even to parliament; meaning that Tsvangirai in the long term will be a victim of the lack of transparency in the handling of important financial matters.

Potraz Attacks Econet

THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has accused “some mobile network operators” of being double faced after they disowned a commonly agreed tariff increase, which has sparked a public outcry.

The telecommunications industry regulator recently gave operators the green light to hike data and voice tariffs to ensure profitability, but the move has met stiff resistance from consumers.

To exonerate themselves from the public fury, some of the operators distanced themselves from the collectively agreed tariff hike, and instead pointed the finger at Potraz.

The regulator’s accusations could be seen as largely directed at the country’s largest mobile network provider, Econet, which hastily hiked data tariffs, but later backtracked and blamed Potraz for the increase.

Potraz set floor prices for data and calls at two cents per megabyte and 12 cents per minute respectively.

The other two providers, Telecel and NetOne, were yet to review their charges amid reports that they were still engaging Potraz.

However, Government intervened on Thursday and suspended the new tariffs pending further consultations.

But on Friday Potraz absolved itself from initiating the new tariff structure, saying the service providers had met prior to the issuance of the directive and proposed even higher floor prices.

“As the sector regulator, we are concerned and disturbed by the conduct, double standards, negative utterances and refusal to take ownership of this decision by some mobile network operators,” Potraz said while announcing the termination of the new tariffs in line with the Government directive.

“It has become apparent to us that the service providers have decided not to own up to the fact that they engaged the regulator regarding declining revenues, which were, according to them, threatening industry viability and service roll out.”

Potraz added; “In its quest to ensure that consumers continue to enjoy quality telecommunication services and maintain the expansion drive towards universal access, Potraz positively received the plea by operators and eventually agreed to the introduction of a moderated floor price, which as envisaged by the authority, would ensure both sector viability and continuous service provision to consumers.”

Leaked minutes of a meeting between Potraz and Telecommunications Operators’ Association of Zimbabwe, show that Econet is said to have proposed a floor price of five cents per megabyte, but the regulator eventually set it at two cents. — New Ziana.

Lumumba Ditched By SA ‘Lover’

CONTROVERSIAL political activist Acie Lumumba’s claim to be in a relationship with Lerato Hlongwani, daughter to South African business tycoon, Fana Hlongwane, has been met with heated denial by the latter.

Lumumba last Thursday revealed to H-Metro that he was in love with Lerato and was ready to settle but she described the claim as “lies! False information.”

“Please , I am not dating Acie Lumumba ! Never have and Never will. He is, and in this case I guess it’s safe to say, was my friend,” fumed Lerato who said she is “very hurt and upset” by the story.

The controversial activist made the sensational claims moments after a Harare magistrate ruled that he be given back his passport but Lerato insists they were only friends and Lumumba’s claims have dragged her family name into unnecessary shame.

Lumumba’s passport was being held at the Harare Magistrates’ Clerk of Court as part of his bail condition in a matter in which he is being charged with undermining the authority of the President and soon after he got his passport he volunteered information about Lerato claiming she is his girlfriend.

After the interview, he went on to shower H-Metro with pictures of him and Lerato as proof that they were an item.

“I am now free to travel. I have been handed back my passport.

“My lover had been worried on whether I would travel to South Africa to see her.

“I have found love in another beautiful woman . . . Lerato Fana the daughter of South African businessman Fana Hlongwane,” he said.

However, a clearly agitated Lerato made it very clear to H-Metro that Lumumba’s claims are not only false but embarrassing to her and her family.

She insisted that the only relationship she had with Lumumba was friendship and suggested that even that friendship was over after the political activist, popular for leaking a sex tape, claimed to be her lover.

The Bonking Prophet Magaya – VIDEOS

Airlines Slash Fares By Up To 50%

The year 2017 has opened with heavy discounts on air tickets, bordering on a fare war of sorts, to woo passengers back to flying.

Average fares have fallen by 50 percent as airlines cut prices to boost market share amid intensifying competition. The cuts come as budget airlines are reporting a rise in net profit.
Traditional airlines have vowed to take market share from rival airlines.

This aggressive discount scheme has seen the country’s largest airlines by market share slashing air fares by half to a number of destinations.

A return arirfare to Dubai now costs $520, to and back from London $880, Sydney $1050, Johannesburg $280, Cape Town $620, and Guangzhou $750, according to Fivebulls Travel Tours & Safaris.

This includes taxes or service fees but are subject to availability. The move literally throws down the gauntlet to budget airline rivals by traditional airline.“This is a normal practice in line with demand,” a spokesperson for Fivebulls Travel Tours & Safaris said.

The move to slash fares by almost half, has seen all airlines follow this pricing strategy, the spokesperson said.

February to April is generally considered a lean period for the domestic travel industry.
An airline executive told the Daily News that the scheme is to sell excess inventory that airlines are sitting on, coming from the holiday season.
Fares will be back to normal soon, he said.

“Airlines are trying to fill up inventory especially for March and April, which is when peak summer travel begins, so that they can plan revenue management better,” he said.

Currently, almost 20 airlines are flying into Zimbabwe from a peak of 48 in 1999 and there are efforts to lure more and grow the tourism sector that has the potential of earning $5 billion annually by 2020. daily news

Bring on Senegal, Roars Pasuwa

WARRIORS’ coach Calisto Pasuwa believes they will play with more confidence against Senegal after holding Algeria 2-2 at the Stade de Franceville on Sunday.

Zimbabwe hadn’t been given a chance going into their opening Group B match of the Afcon finals in Gabon, but defied the odds and could have won had they put away all their chances.

Senegal beat Tunisia 2-0 in the other Group B game. Pasuwa said they need to perfect their act and get a result against Senegal to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive.

“If you defend for a long time, you end up making mistakes, hence you saw us conceding so many corner kicks in a few minutes. But again the good thing is that we got a point,” said Pasuwa.

“I think a point is better. I think this will motivate the boys to do a little better in their next game. We didn’t come here to add to the numbers and I even said so when we were in our meeting. We had problems, but when they were solved, we came here to do business,” he said.

Goals from Kuda Mahachi and Nyasha Mushekwi earned the Warriors a point, while Riyad Mahrez’s brace saved Algeria the blushes.

“In the first half, we were very offensive and we missed too many chances. Had we put away those chances, we could have buried them. In the second half we sat too deep and we conceded the equaliser. Yes, we lost two points because we wanted all three points.

“We are planning for Senegal now and remember they are very physical. They are one of the best teams in Africa. We saw our weaknesses when we played this game and we also saw our strengths. We have to utilise our strengths and build on that strength going forward. We will work on our weaknesses at training for the next game,” Pasuwa said.

He said Knowledge Musona’s injury early in the match shredded their plans, as he was forced to introduce Matthew Rusike.

“As you know Musona has been one of our regular players scoring goals. I heard it is a hamstring, but I don’t know how serious it is. We will hear from the doctors. But pulling him out in the early stages of the game was something else when we look at how we had planned,” said Pasuwa.

Soon after the Desert Foxes of Algeria had levelled the scores, substitute Cuthbert Malajila could have changed the situation, but selfishness got the better of him when he decided to go for glory from a tight angle instead of passing the ball to the unmarked Kuda Mahachi.

“In football at this level, you need to take your chances. It’s one of those chances that we missed. And there were so many chances that we missed also. We need to bury chances when we get them,” Pasuwa said. – state media

Mphoko Meets Buhari’s Special Envoy

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has deployed his special envoy to President Mugabe to introduce his country’s candidate for the post of Commissioner for Peace and Security in the African Union Commission.

The special envoy, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe paid a courtesy call on Acting President Phelekezela Mphoko at his Munhumutapa Offices in Harare yesterday where they were informed that Zimbabwe had two candidates vying for senior positions at the African Union Commission.

Ambassador Kingibe was accompanied by Nigeria’s candidate Ms Fatima Kyari Mohammed and other officials.

Speaking to the media after a closed door meeting with Acting President Mphoko, Ambassador Kingibe said Zimbabwe and Nigeria enjoyed strong relations that saw them consult on various issues.

“My President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria sent us as a delegation to His Excellency, the President who unfortunately is on his holidays,” said Ambassador Kingibe.

“But I am glad they probably met in Mali at the France Africa Summit and they will have an opportunity to meet in Addis Ababa at the end of the month at the African Union Summit.

“He sent us to wish him all the best for 2017 and to share with him some thoughts about the future of the African Union Commission and to present our candidate for the Office of the Commissioner for Peace and Security in the forthcoming elections of the African Union Commission.

“We were well received by the honourable Acting President and we had very fruitful and in-depth discussions. We have also taken note that Zimbabwe also has two candidates up for elections. As we always do in the African family, I am sure we will find some kind of an outcome that will make everybody comfortable and able to work with.”

Ambassador Kingibe said Ms Mohammed had vast experience in peace and security where she excelled in managing and preventing conflicts.

Zimbabwe’s candidates to the offices of AU commissioners are Dr Pride Chigwedere (Social Affairs) and Dr Hesphina Rukato (Political Affairs).

Ambassador Kingibe said the developments in Gambia where outgoing President Yahya Jammeh refused to pave way for President-elect, Adama Barrow were disturbing.

“Of course, that was a matter of concern to the leaders in West Africa. President Muhammadu Buhari has in fact, been appointed as the mediator to have the President of the Gambia change his mind and peacefully cede power to the winner of the elections.

“They had a useful meeting with him on Friday. I am not briefed on the outcome. But the collective effort of West Africa is to ensure that the will of the people as reflected in the results of the elections are respected by President Jammeh peacefully,” Ambassador Kingite said. – State Media

Ruling on Gandawa Concourt Bid Postponed to Thursday

The ruling on Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Deputy Minister Godfrey Gandawa’s application for referral to the Constitutional Court was yesterday postponed to Thursday.

Gandawa is jointly charged with Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) finance director Nicholas Mapute on fraud and criminal abuse of duty charges.

Mapute did not seek Concourt relief and wants to stand trial.

In his application through his defence counsel Advocate Firoz Girach, Gandawa said his case was similar to Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo whose arrest was suspended by the Concourt.

He wants the Concourt to also declare his arrest, detention and placement on remand unconstitutional.

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) does not, in terms of the Constitution or the law, have the power to arrest and detain suspects,” he said.

“In terms of the Constitution, the Prosecutor-General does have the power to order the Commissioner of the Police to arrest any person.

“The search warrant by Zacc is illegal and should be nullified.”

Gandawa and Mapute are accused of unlawfully benefiting about $430 000 from Zimdef between November 2015 and June 2016.

Some of the counts includes that of $95 800, which was transferred from Zimdef to Wishbone Trading through CABS.

Gandawa received $20 000 through his personal Barclays account after which he transferred $19 030 to HIB Rajput PL T/A Ace Cycles.

He then transferred $27 550 to SKM Motorcycles for 10 tri-cycles for Prof Moyo and the balance was withdrawn in cash.

It is alleged that $107 525 was transferred from Zimdef to Fuzzy Technologies’ NMB Bank account, of which $5 745 was transferred to Pridham Investments for Gandawa’s personal furniture.

Gandawa also paid for 69 bicycles worth $7 260 for Prof Moyo. He also transferred $12 900 to Wisebone Trading as capital to finance his personal business and the remainder was withdrawn in cash. – State Media

Girls Crash Glass Ceiling, Out-Shine Boys In A’Level Exams

Girls out-shone boys at Advanced Level Zimbabwe School Examinations Council’s November examinations whose results were released on Friday last week.

According to an analysis by Zimsec, female candidates scored a 91,6 percent pass rate while their male counterparts managed 86,4 percent. In 2015, girls were in the lead, scoring a 90,5 percent pass rate against the boys’ 85,4 percent.

Zimsec board chairperson Professor Levi Nyagura said there were more male candidates than females in last year’s examinations. “The total number of school female candidates who sat for November 2016 A-level examinations was 14 610,” he said. “Of these, 14 489 wrote two or more subjects and 13 266 passed with two or more subjects.

“The total number of school male candidates who sat for the same examinations was 18 790, which is 4 180 more than their female counterparts. A total of 18 650 male school candidates wrote two or more subjects and 16 117 passed with two or more subjects.”

Prof Nyagura said candidature had increased in 2016 compared to 2015. “There is a slight increase in both entries and pass rates for female and male candidates from 2015 to 2016,” he said. “Though female candidates are significantly fewer than male candidates, their performance also notably surpasses that of their counterparts.”

According to statistics, 85,1 percent of female school candidates passed one subject, while their male counterparts managed 72,9 percent.

On private candidates, females scored a 47,4 percent, while their male counterparts managed 53,2 percent.

The statistics also show that 73,3 percent of female school candidates passed two subjects, while males managed 66,7 percent.

Female private candidates scored 27,1 percent, while the male candidates managed 34,3 percent.

On candidates who passed three subjects, female school candidates registered a 71,78 percent pass rate compared to their male counterparts who settled for 66,3 percent. – State Media

10 Injured In Violent Gold War

MORE than 10 people have been hospitalised following a bloody attack by illegal gold panners in Inyathi, Bubi District.

The victims were rushed to Inyathi District Hospital while one was transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo after being attacked by omakorokoza with machetes, knives and stones.

It is believed that the gold panners were searching for a rival gang when they ended up indiscriminately attacking people at a bar.

The incident occurred at Senco Night Club, Mahamba Business Centre at about 11PM on Friday.

Running battles have been reported in the area allegedly over occupancy of mining claims, most of which have been abandoned.

The Chronicle visited one of those who were attacked, Mr Martin Khabo — a soldier on leave — at Mpilo Central Hospital yesterday and he narrated his ordeal.

Mr Khabo said he passed out after being attacked by a machete and stones.

He said more than 10 people were taken to Inyathi District Hospital with some injuries and he was caught up in a crossfire as he was not involved in mining activities.

“I had gone to the business centre to spend some time with friends as usual. We went to Sencor Night Club and at about 11PM, I decided to go home. As I was going out I was shocked to see scores of people stampeding back into the night club.

“I saw a group of men carrying machetes and knives. Before I knew it, I was attacked with a machete on the back of my head and several other people were also attacked. There was chaos as people screamed and tried to run away,” said Mr Khabo.

He said he tried to escape but was attacked with a stone on the head and he fell unconscious.

Bubi Small-Scale Miners’ Association secretary general Mr Benjamin Ndlovu confirmed the incident.

“I received the information yesterday and I was disturbed. Illegal gold miners from other areas have swamped the mining area and this has created fierce feuds.

“The local leadership, including security forces, political and traditional leaders should tackle this issue as a matter of urgency and bring it to an end,” said Mr Ndlovu.

Ward 11 Councillor Siwela Siwela said the incident occurred when he was away and was yet to get reasons behind the attack.

Acting Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Eglon Nkala could not immediately comment on the matter. – State Media

Mugabe “Death Prophecy” Pastor Charged And Detained

https://youtu.be/LZ_h9VCeAkk?t=70

Controversial Pastor Phillip Patrick Mugadza who was this morning arrested over a prophecy he made last week that President Robert Mugabe would die on October 17 has been charged and detained. Below is a ZLHR statement;

ZIM CLERGYMAN CHARGED AND DETAINED OVER MUGABE “DEATH PROPHECY”
ZIMBABWEAN authorities on Monday 16 January 2017 arrested and charged Remnant Pentecostal Church leader Pastor Phillip Patrick Mugadza for insulting President Robert Mugabe after he allegedly prophesied that the nonagenarian leader will die this year.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers who quizzed Pastor Mugadza at Harare Central Police Station claimed that the clergyman on Friday 13 January 2017 unlawfully acted in a manner which is likely to create a nuisance by giving a prophesy that President Mugabe is going to die on 17 October 2017.

The ZRP officers charged that Pastor Mugadza misrepresented to the public that the prophesy was a true prophesy.

However, Pastor Mugadza, who is represented by Gift Mtisi of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights denied the charge in a warned and cautioned statement he signed at the Law and Order Section at Harare Central Police Station, where he is spending the night under detention in police cells.

Initially, ZRP officers had indicated that they would charge Pastor Mugadza for insulting and undermining the authority of the president in contravention of Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act before altering the charge.

Pastor Mugadza has had several run-ins with Zimbabwean authorities. In December 2015, the clergyman was arrested and detained during the ZANU PF National People’s Conference for allegedly staging a demonstration denouncing President Mugabe’s 35 year-old reign.

Pastor Mugadza was charged with criminal nuisance in contravention of Section 46 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23 after he allegedly protested against the manner in which the ZANU PF party leader had presided over the affairs of the country.

In 2016, the Remnant Pentecostal Church leader was also arrested several times and charged with criminal nuisance and for draping himself with the country’s national flag without seeking permission from the country’s authorities.

Obama Gives Mugabe A Farewell Bashing

Joylene Mtandwa | Outgoing United States of America President Barack Obama has given Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe a rude farewell by extending US sanctions against him, his wife, family and close aides by another year.

Just less than a week before leaving the White House at the end of his term, Obama signed an extension on US sanctions on Mugabe and his inner circle on accusations that Mugabe has not reformed on human rights abuses that caused the US to set sanctions on the aged leader.

President Robert Mugabe has previously challenged the US to remove the targeted sanctions claiming that Zimbabwe won’t achieve set United Nations development goals if the restrictive measures are maintained. Mugabe and his fellow ZANU PF officials insist that the western nations are punishing the country for possessing a lot of mineral wealth, which they want to exploit for their own benefit. Letter — Continuation of National Emergency with Respect to Zimbabwe

TEXT OF A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
TO THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE

January 13, 2017

Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)

Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)) provides for the automatic termination of a national emergency unless, within 90 days prior to the anniversary date of its declaration, the President publishes in the Federal

Register and transmits to the Congress a notice stating that the emergency is to continue in effect beyond the anniversary date. In accordance with this provision, I have sent to the Federal Register for publication the enclosed notice stating that the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 of March 6, 2003, with respect to the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions is to continue in effect beyond March 6, 2017.

The crisis constituted by the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions has not been resolved. These actions and policies continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States. For these reasons, I have determined that it is necessary to continue this national emergency and to maintain in force the sanctions to respond to this threat.

Sincerely,
BARACK OBAMA

Mnangagwa Crushes Opposition Supporters

Terrence Mawawa, Bikita |Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa shocked local villagers recently when he warned that anti-Zanu PF elements should be dealt with in a ruthless manner.

Addressing party supporters at a rally held at Gwindingwi High School ahead of the Bikita West by-election, Mnangagwa instructed traditional leaders to compile lists of people who do not support the ruling party. The Vice President has been accused of descending hard on opposition supporters, a claim he has denied. Recently Mnangagwa declined he played a leading role in the Gukurahundi atrocities.

The politician said Zanu PF would remain in power despite attempts by opposition and western forces to topple the revolutionary party. “Traditional leaders you know those who do not support Zanu PF in your respective areas, go and compile lists of such people so that they can be dealt with accordingly. We cannot let the opposition candidates win the seat. That will never happen,”said Mnangagwa.

He added:”We know that some of you support opposition parties. We know everything and do not regret when we identify you.” Mnangagwa who is said to be the leader of a faction called Team Lacoste in Zanu PF has been accused of dealing ruthlessly with his foes both in and out of the ruling party. Political analysts also view the Midlands godfather as President Robert Mugabe’s heir apparent.

Soul Jah Love Finally Speaks | BREAKING NEWS

SOUL JAH LOVE has spoken out for the first time after jetting into Zimbabwe. Speaking exclusively to ZimEye, Soul Musaka refused to comment further on his hospital encounter in the United Kingdom where he spent 3 days under the care of nurses and doctors, shortly after he fell on stage. Below was the interview:

“Soul Jah Love” Hospitalised for 3 Whole Days

By Staff Reporter| Dancehall sensation, Soul Jah Love was hospitalised in the UK for 3 whole days, ZimEye has been told.

Soul Musaka’s UK promoter, Donald Chinouya, Monday afternoon claimed the singer went into the hospital for a mere checkup. “He only went on the Tuesday, it was just the family’s concerns that he should go for a check up,” he said.

But it has emerged as ZimEye reveals, the singer was hospitalised for 3 days, raising suspicion that the man who Walter Magaya claimed he had healed, is not well at present after Magaya staged a camera act depriving the singer of his wheelchair. SEE VIDEOS:

Moyo, Charamba Clash “Shocks” Zanu PF

War Veterans minister, Tshinga Dube, said the public spats among top government officials have shocked and confused him, as Zanu PF factionalism continues to play out in the open.

Dube’s remarks come as there is seemingly no love lost between Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo and President Robert Mugabe’s spokesman, George Charamba.

“That’s a million dollar question my friend that I cannot answer or comment on until I talk to those two people,” Dube said.

“I thought I understood how Zanu PF worked, but this has confused me.”

Dube’s remarks came after Charamba savaged Moyo in a column he reportedly writes under the pseudonym, Nathaniel Manheru in State-controlled media. Moyo also gave as much as he got, describing Charamba as a “useful idiot”, a jibe he has used before.

Charamba seemed to be doing Vice-President Mnangagwa’s bidding, telling Moyo to stay out of succession debates.

Last year, Charamba warned that Mugabe was about to descend heavily on the G40 faction, saying the grouping was being given a long rope to hang itself.

This comes as critics are questioning whether Mugabe is still calling the shots or whether he has faith in his deputies.

The President is interspersing his annual holiday with official engagements and observers say this shows he has little faith in his deputies, Vice-Presidents Phelekezela Mphoko and Mnangagwa, as he could have easily assigned them those duties and remained on holiday.

Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association secretary-general, Victor Matemadanda, told NewsDay that in light of the circus that has consumed Zanu PF and government since the beginning of January, the former freedom fighters felt vindicated in their earlier call for Mugabe to step down.

“Mugabe is old and while he can be physically present, he is always mentally absent, he should not be allowed to run this country,” he said.

Matemadanda said the public fights were all being caused by Mugabe.

“We worked with Mugabe when he was young, he was a man who did not brook this nonsense, which is going on even after he warned members of his party not to abuse Twitter, he is the reason that his own Vice-Presidents are not even respected locally by his own ministers because he has lost touch,” he said.

“The people of Zimbabwe should wake up from this mirage and confront the real evil. They should go into the streets and demonstrate against massive corruption happening in Zanu PF. Moyo must go to court and face the music.”

MDC-T spokesperson, Obert Gutu said the President decided to go to Mali was clear testimony that he was the be all and end all in Zanu PF and government and he maintained a tight leash on all activities even in his absence.

“Robert Mugabe is Zanu PF and Zanu PF is Robert Mugabe. Sadly, in his scheme of things, Robert Mugabe is Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe is Robert Mugabe. This is a one-man dictatorship,” he said.

“Mugabe is obsessed with political power as an end in itself.”

Gutu said Mnangagwa and Mphoko were only ceremonial figureheads with no real power to make any decisions or represent Mugabe at international level.

“His Vice-Presidents are merely ceremonial figureheads with no executive authority. The buck always starts and stops with Mugabe himself. When he is not in the country, Cabinet doesn’t sit and no major executive decision is made by any Cabinet minister. The man is a fully-fledged dictator. Mugabe will make the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un green with envy,” he said.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman, Jacob Mafume said Mugabe has totally lost power, as proven by the Nigerian movie script playing out in his government.

“To say Mugabe has power is a joke … It is now a full Nigerian movie, where government ministers talk about coffee mugs instead of hungry and jobless people,” he said.

Zimbabwe People First were quick to agree, saying the Mali trip vindicated former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s public pronouncements that only Mugabe knows what’s happening in his government.

“It is not surprising for a man, who believes that he alone is the man in Zimbabwe and that he has no confidence in both Mnangagwa and Mphoko,” party spokesman, Jealousy Mawarire said.

“This confirms that Zimbabwe is a dictatorship and it also puts away the idea of complicity they put on Mujuru, Mugabe alone knows what is happening and Mugabe alone is culpable for all the problems we are facing because he is a system.”

When Mugabe met Chinese President Xi Jinping, while on leave, Charamba said it would not have made sense to fly a deputy from Zimbabwe to China when Mugabe was already in that country. – Newsday

Mugabe Has Final Say on New Chief Justice

Outgoing Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku says President Robert Mugabe has the final say on who becomes the new chief justice.

He clarified the current debate on the appointment of his successor while speaking during the official opening of the 2017 legal year at Mashonganyika Building in Harare.

Chief justice Chidyausiku who was appointed in July 2001 replacing Justice Anthony Gubbay, is going on retirement at the end of next month (February) when he reaches the mandatory age of 70.
The official opening of a new legal year is important in the judicial calendar which allows the chief justice an opportunity to review key developments of the previous year.
Chief Justice Chidyausiku highlighted some of the achievements achieved during his tenure that included maintaining the independence of the judiciary, upholding the constitution and the rule of law, separating the administration of the courts from the government and improving gender equality in the judiciary sector.
He applauded the promulgation of the Judiciary Services Act in 2006, which helped set up an efficient administration system that monitored the performance of lower courts and brought about infrastructural development as 30 new Magistrate courts were constructed and others refurbished throughout the country.

He applauded development partners Danida, treasury and the Department of Public Works for supporting infrastructural development in the justice delivery sector.
Justice Chidyausiku, however, bemoaned lack of funding as a hindrance in their quest to improve justice delivery in the country.
He urged his successor to utilise available resources and cultivate fruitful relationships with funding partners. – State Media

AU Recognizes Adama Barrow As Gambian President Warns Jammeh

President Yahya Jammeh’s term in office as leader of the tiny West African country comes to an end next Thursday and AU has warned of “serious consequences” if Mr. Jammeh’s refusal to give up power causes a crisis.

Going by the recent position adopted by the African Union (AU), that it will no longer recognise Yahya Jammeh as President of The Gambia, the continental body would in principle turn to Adama Barrow as the country’s leader for official relations.

President Yahya Jammeh’s term in office as leader of the tiny West African country comes to an end next Thursday and AU has warned of “serious consequences” if Mr. Jammeh’s refusal to give up power causes a crisis.

Barrow, who won the December 2016 presidential election, said he believed he would be sworn in Thursday, even as the outgoing Gambian dictator, Jammeh, has closed the country’s border with Senegal.

According to Agency reports, the border closure followed reports of massive exodus of Gambians fleeing the country amid threats of external invasion from ECOWAS to flush out the despotic Jammeh regime.

Similarly, President-elect Barrow, who told the BBC in an interview that he is willing to have a face-to-face dialogue with Jammeh, was invited to take part in the ECOWAS meeting holding in Mali yesterday.

Barrow, the winner of the December presidential election, has also said there is no need for President Yahya Jammeh to seek asylum, expressing confidence that direct talks can solve the crisis.

While also expressing optimism that he would be sworn in on January 19, despite his rival’s refusal to give up power. The President-elect declared: “We want to keep Jammeh in The Gambia, I don’t think there is any need for him to go to another country.”

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari among other ECOWAS leaders, flew to Banjul to try and broker an end to the deadlock, even as Nigeria’s House of Representatives voted to offer Jammeh asylum to help negotiations.

But the man expected to take over from the outgoing President; Barrow maintains: “We solve our problems within ourselves without the intervention of anybody. I think that’s what we’d prefer.”

It would be recalled that Jammeh had initially conceded defeat, but later contested the election, contending that he wants the results annulled claiming the electoral commission had admitted some errors, although the body insists it did not affect the final outcome.

Jammeh, 51, seized power in the country in 1994 and has been accused of human rights abuses, although he has held regular elections. The country’s Supreme Court said it was unable to hear Jammeh’s petition until May, owing to a shortage of judges, but Jammeh maintains that he will not step down until then.

At its meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, the AU peace and security council called on Gambia’s security forces to exercise restraint. online

Trump To Reverse Mugabe Sanctions?

Ray Nkosi | Donald Trump the incoming President of the United States of America is set to reverse many of President Barak Obama’s policies, with speculation rife that he will also take a softer stance on President Robert Mugabe.

Analysis

A number of Obama’s policies from healthcare to his contentious relationship with Israel and Zimbabwe could be short-lived once Mr Trump becomes the 45th president later this week, analysts say.

Mr Trump has been vocal about his disapproval of many of Mr Obama’s policies, often voicing his disagreement or engaging in public disputes with Obama on Twitter.

Obama last week extended sanctions against Mugabe with many of the pro democracy movement lauding his move meant to advance democratic values in Zimbabwe. Said Obama in a White House statement; “The crisis constituted by the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions has not been resolved.”

He goes further to state, “These actions and policies continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States. For these reasons, I have determined that it is necessary to continue this national emergency and to maintain in force the sanctions to respond to this threat.”

Ok Zimbabwe Attacked by Dirty Criminals

OK Zimbabwe suffered a $70 000 hit in their finances after Isaiah Marange, a 33 year old man from Chitungwiza hacked into OK’s Money Wave system.

According to the state media, Marange signed up and opened a Money Wave account making an initial deposit of $5 under the name Kundai Liberty Musamba.

On 26 December 2016 he then allegedly hacked into the system and credited $35 000 to his account claiming to have made the transaction at OK Queensdale till number 5.

Marange went on to credit an additional $35 000 and was joined by some accomplices that he went with on a spending spree swiping at a number of wholesale stores that include National Foods and National Tyre Services.

In some instances Marange is alleged to have looked for customers in these stores with cash and asked to swipe for them and get the hard cash in return.

The issue came to light for OK Zimbabwe after their Queensdale branch received bank statements from CABS that did not tally with the branch’s reconciliation statements.

The issue has since been taken to court and Marange was remanded last Friday until February 14 2017 on $300 bail.

Ok Zimbabwe has since failed to recover any of the money they were swindled. How exactly he performed the crime is still a mystery but this highlights how weak cyber security is in Zimbabwe. – Fingaz

Tsvangirai Willingly Participated In A Rigged Election | OPINION

Nomusa Garikayi | Did you know that Movement for Democratic Change leaders did not just know but were 100% certain that Zanu PF was going to rig the 2013 elections months before the July vote and yet still participated in the elections for selfish reasons? If you did not know, here it is confirmation from the horse’s mouth.

In his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of tyranny in Zimbabwe, former MDC – Ncube Senator and Minister of Education in the GNU, David Coltart, gave details of how Zanu PF flouted the electoral rules, it clear the upcoming 2013 elections would not be free and fair. Meanwhile talks of uniting the two MDC factions to fight the elections as one were going nowhere.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

Let us remember that MDC was elected on the promise of bringing democratic change and by failing to get any reforms implemented during the GNU and then giving legitimacy to an illegal process, MDC were betraying the people who elected them. They paid lip-service to bringing democratic change, just as Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs have paid lip-service to freedom, justice and human rights for all.

“Kwavari mhiko, mudonzo wepwa, wonzedzara unodya!” as one would say in Shona. (To Zimbabwe’s politicians, principles are sugar cane walking stick, you eat them when are hungry!)

Although MDC leaders were certain the elections would be rigged, they told the people the exact opposite. It was not until noon of 31 July 2013, voting day, that Tsvangirai admitted “Zanu PF stole the elections”, with feigned disappointment of one who did not know this would happen. Soon thereafter the all MDC factions vowed they will not take part in any future elections without implementing the democratic reforms first. “No reform, no elections!” they said.

MDC factions have boycotted the by-elections but have long since they will participate in the national elections although the accept that no meaningful reforms have been implemented. Just as happened in the 2013 elections, MDC leaders take part in the elections knowing the elections will be rigged for the sake of winning the few seats Zanu PF allow the opposition to win.

Again, just as happen before the July 2013 elections, MDC and other opposition leaders will pretend the 2018 elections not be a betrayal of the people whose right to a meaningful vote will be denied once again. The opposition leaders are claiming that the formation of an opposition coalition, an aggressive voter registration exercise and other opposition strategies will stop Zanu PF rigging the vote. All nonsense!

In the March 2008 vote Zanu PF managed to get Tsvangirai’s 73% share of the vote, by Mugabe’s own inadvertent admission, reduced to 47% after five weeks of “recounting” 5 million votes! The regime has since improved on its vote rigging tricks and has billions of dollars looted from Marange to bankroll its schemes. How does a coalition or voter registration stop NIKUV, the Israeli company paid a princely sum of US$10 million in 2013 to corrupt voters’ roll, doing so again!

The status quo suits Mugabe and Zanu PF, he and his cronies are enjoying absolute power and the influence and luxuries it brings. He would not want any reforms implemented and risk lose power.

Tsvangirai and his opposition friends will continue to make a big song and dance about fighting for democratic change to help calm the restive populous but do nothing, even when presented with the golden opportunity to do as happened during the GNU. They will take part in the elections knowing they will be rigged; they are content fighting for the scraps Zanu PF throws at them and the bragging rights to call themselves “main opposition party”.

The big losers in Zimbabwe are the ordinary Zimbabweans whose lives hell-on-earth after 37 years of this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. Unemployment has soared to 90%, millions now live in abject poverty and, so far, over 30 000 have been murdered in cold blood by the regime for selfish political gains. Another rigged election in 2018 will mean a worsen economic meltdown and deepening political crisis.

Socially, politically and economically, Zimbabwe cannot afford another rigged election in 2018 because the country will pay the price for such folly with the usual sweat and treasure but increasing in human misery and lost human lives!

If there are going to be free, fair and credible elections in 2018 it is the ordinary people themselves, who must to demand the implementation of the democratic reforms. Senator David Coltart’s admission that the opposition are now more interested in fighting over main opposition party bragging rights that democratic change is just one more piece of evidence that opposition is not fighting in the people’s corner.

Mugabe has thoroughly corrupted opposition politicians like Tsvangirai as he has corrupted his own Zanu PF thugs; the opposition politicians are not just run with the hare and hunt with the hounds, they are hounds and are actively hunting the hare. The sooner the people of Zimbabwe wise up to the reality that opposition will never ever implement democratic reforms to secure free and fair elections, the sooner the country will start the important task of digging itself out of the hell-hole Mugabe landed us in.

Mugabe Death Prophecy, Pastor Mugadza Arrested | BREAKING NEWS

https://youtu.be/LZ_h9VCeAkk?t=3

By Joylene Mtandwa | Controversial Kariba based Pastor, Patrick Mugadza, has been arrested.

Mugadza last week prophesied that President Robert Mugabe would die on October 17 and told a ZimEye LIVE audience he was ready to face the consequences of his prophecy.

Mugadza was picked outside the Harare magistrates court earlier today where he had gone for his routine remand hearing. “They are accusing me of undermining the authority of the president and they picked me at 0945hrs at the court”, Mugadza told ZimEye soon after his arrest Monday. More to follow…

Male Stripper Gives Zim Women Sex Lessons

In Zimbabwe male stri_ppers are no longer just being used to send off a bride — well-heeled women now simply gather, even just a few of them, and hire a man or two to dance and strip for them. Unlike female stri_ppers, who can be anything from pot-bellied to being a “proud plus size” woman — when it comes to male strippers, the rules are strict.

One has to have a “chiseled body”. In short, they need to be a body builder or fitness enthusiast looking like they just walked straight out of a Hollywood movie.

Ever wondered what most of these jobless guys who spend most their time at the gym do for a living? How they afford to pay their gym fees, maintain strict healthy diets and even frequent upmarket restaurants and clubs?

Speculate no more. There is an underground network of these young men that charges between US$120 to US$500 to entertain groups of women, especially in the affluent parts of the city.

Having heard stories of one celebrity guy who survives this way, journalists went undercover to find out if this industry really exists.

The network is impenetrable unless one is invited or referred by a known client, stri_pper or middleman.

With this reporter pushing a “thank you Harare” pot-belly and thus not wanted anywhere near a hen party, we sought the services of our in-house fitness enthusiast, Andrew Moyo, who is one of this publication’s reporters, so that he could pose as one of the dancer’s ‘manager’.

His gig with our informant, a bouncer at a local upmarket club, hit a brick wall when the client demanded a taller and bigger person.

However, the bouncer agreed to tell us what goes on in this seemingly lucrative but secretive business on condition of anonymity.

“The dancing itself lasts no more than an hour. In fact, it should be just 30 minutes — that is what our (verbal) contract says,” began the bouncer’s narration.

“If the client wants more they have to pay extra. As long as they are paying money we can do anything. That is why it is a two or three-man job. We do this so that while one of us dances, the other one monitors to see that no recordings and other shenanigans are taking place.

“The dancer usually wears a mask to avoid giving identities away. Some women, though, can pay so that you remove the disguises. If we are satisfied that no one there knows us or is a close relation or friend, we take off the masks but if we are not sure we refuse,” he explained.

The bouncer-cum-stri_pper also explained that the job is mostly about teaching the bride-to-be what men want in bed.

“The deal is showing the lady set to wed how to handle her man in bed. We do this through demonstrations on her or a selected lady. Some may even demand an actual ‘act’, either right there in front of the crowd or in a separate room but they pay more money.

“The weird thing is that sometimes these ladies’ husbands will be outside while all this is happening. But measures are put in place to ensure they do not get in.” The bouncer said while the business started years ago as strictly for entertainment at bachelorettes, this has evolved and male dancers or stri_ppers can now be hired by a group of ladies or even one lady, just for “some fun”.

Quizzed if this was not prostitution, the bouncer said, “The money is good so these are some of the dangers, you end up doing anything. However, my partner or manager always has to be there no matter what, in case something arises plus you need a witness. We share the money 50/50.

“In the last two to three years, things have become extreme and caution has been thrown to the wind. Nowadays we can stri_p for people that just approach us without being referred by anyone. There is now competition and the guys are advertising themselves underground.

“In the past women would come individually to ask for our contacts but these days we just give out the numbers we use for bookings because we are looking for work.”

The bouncer revealed that this past festive season had been particularly good for the business as they would sometimes do up to three shows a day, especially during weekends.

He also divulged some of the rules of the business.

“When we get to a gig, we do not eat, we do not drink. Some of our colleagues have been drugged before, so we guard against these things. We carry our own water when going for these jobs and we do not accept anything else from our clients except money.

“You also need to have a few special underwear for such jobs and always be clean shaven and smelling good. You find that many bouncers, while they need the money, they lack the discipline and so they can’t do the job,” he said with a chuckle.

He said the downside is that the job is like a drug deal.

“You do not ask or permit the other party to ask too many questions, otherwise the deal collapses. You cannot risk your wife, girlfriend or family finding out. For instance, I have kids that are now in secondary school, it would be disastrous if it ever came out that I do this.”

Could this weird trend spill into actual stri_p clubs?

“No. Not yet. Nightclubs are mostly frequented by men and the male stri_ppers prefer dancing for women only, it could be a while. But remember ‘the love of money is the root of all evil’, where there is money anything can happen.” – Agencies

MUGABE DEATH: Kasukuwere Attacks “Reckless” Prophets

ZANU PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere (pictured) has warned prophets against causing alarm in the country by declaring false prophetic pronouncements.

The warning came after Kariba-based cleric, Philip Mugadza, predicted that President Robert Mugabe will die on October 17, this year unless he publicly-confessed and repented to prayer.

Speaking to NewsDay, Kasukuwere said the prophets in Zimbabwe were becoming reckless and careless with their pronouncements.

I think these prophets are becoming reckless and careless. They should just stop the behaviour or they will force government to act,” he said without being specific.

This is not the first time Zanu PF has been at loggerheads with prophets, who have predicted doom and unrest in Zimbabwe.

Mugadza, however, said threats would not stop him from declaring the prophecy, which he claims he received while in prayer on December 26.

“I am not saying I am going to be killing him on October 17, so there is no way anybody can say to me what you have done is wrong, I am not going to be killing anybody, I am only saying what God told me that he is going to die,” he said.

Mugadza’s prophecy comes after Prophetic Healing and Deliverance ministries founder Walter Magaya predicted the death of a prominent politician this year. – Newsday

HORROR FLOODS : Scores Of Families Displaced, Red Cross To The Rescue

HARARE City Council has teamed up with the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society to evacuate and provide emergency shelter for at least 30 families displaced by flooding in Budiriro 5 Extension.

Council spokesperson, Michael Chideme said the most affected families were those with homes built close to Marimba River, which had burst its banks following incessant rains at the weekend.

“Marimba River burst its banks owing to the incessant rains and 30 families had to be evacuated because their homes are now immersed in water. We have had help from Red Cross, which has provided tents for the makeshift shelter,” he said.

Chideme said council has opened investigations on how the families, who are members of Common Vision Housing Co-operative, ended up being allocated stands on the banks of the river.

“Harare City Council is investigating circumstances that led to the allocation of residential stands 50 metres from Marimba River. The investigations will ascertain the authenticity of the layout plan and whether the affected stands are within the approved plan,” he said.

Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni visited the affected families on Saturday to assess the extent of the damage, where he said the local authority would only provide the way forward after completing its investigations.

NewsDay could not reach the affected homes, as the foot bridge, which connects Budiriro 5 Extension and the rest of the city was submerged in water.

Meanwhile, members of the police sub aqua unit were yesterday dispatched to the area to search for an 18-year-old Mufakose resident feared to have been swept away by the floods.

Chief police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said she had not yet been briefed over the incident. – Newsday

EXPOSED : Andrew Langa’s Gukurahundi Link

Ray Nkosi | Ousted Former ZANU PF Matabeleland South chairman Andrew Langa, who has for long been accused by communities in Insiza District of murderous violent campaigns for ZANU PF in the eighties has finally provided a glimpse of evidence on his alleged role in the atrocities.

In a desperate bid to assure his ZANU PF colleagues of his loyalty to the party with a hope of having his suspension from the party reversed, Langa pulled up an old picture of his clad in the notorious ZANU PF youth league of the eighties uniform.

For years the people of Insiza District have allegedly been linking Langa to several unexplained political violence related deaths in the area which the Insiza North legislature has always denied.

The ZANU PF youth league in Matabeleland worked hand in hand with the brutal Gukurahundi 5th Brigade army unity which killed an estimated 20 000 people in the the Midlands and Matabeleland provinces.

The notorious ZANU PF youth recruits were trained in a Pangani disused mine in Filabusi in the eighties was a near military wing, used by the Gukurahundi soldiers to go out and gather people targeted for manslaughter by the soldiers.

The youth would gather villagers and make them sing ZANU PF and President Robert Mugabe praise songs before beating them up and handing them over to the Gukurahundi soldiers for further torture and eventual killing for most.

In Mugabe’s absence, Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa who was Acting President went on a fast track review of some suspended ZANU PF members and seeing the opportunity have his suspension also reversed Langa quickly threw in photos of himself of old.

ZANU PF disbanded the violent youth at the signing of the Unity Accord on 1987. Most of the members of the league were seconded into the national army which went on a tour of duty in Mozambique and the DRC.

Warriors Hold Desert Foxes

Terrence Mawawa The Zimbabwe Warriors survived a late onslaught from the Desert Foxes of Algeria to hold the highly rated North African giants 2-2 in a pulsating Group B opening clash.

The Algerians drew first blood and the Warriors levelled matters through Kuda Mahachi. With neutrals in the stadium and the travelling contingent of supporters rooting for the Warriors, the Algerians suddenly found themselves chasing the game after falling behind following a Nyasha Mushekwi goal from the penalty spot.

In the second half the Desert Foxes took the game to the Warriors and began to commit men forward searching for an equaliser. Substitute Cuthbert Malajila and Mamelodi Sundowns player, Khama Billiart both failed to score after unlocking the Algerian defence. Algeria equalised towards the end of the match and after the goal, the Desert Foxes found the zeal to pour forward in numbers searching for the winning goal.

Soccer fans have expressed mixed sentiments over the Warriors’ draw with Algeria with some supporters arguing the Warriors could have killed the game as a contest in the first half while some ardent Warriors fans congratulating the team for a superb performance. Zimbabwe will meet Tunisia and the Teranga Lions of Senegal in their remaining Group fixtures. This year’s Africa Cup of Nations has been full of surprises. Yesterday hosts Gabon were held to a 1-1 draw by Guinea Bissau while Cameroon drew 1-1 with Bukina Faso.

Mugabe Scared Of Magaya ?

threatened…President Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe, government, and the entire parliament are all scared of Zimbabwe’s spiritist prophets, a top MP says.

Speaking on the sidelines of an interview with ZimEye.com on the Olinda – Stunner matter, womens rights activist, HON Priscilla Misihairabwi Mushonga said the state might never act against men of the cloth who abuse the public because government and parliament office holders dread encroaching into the so called “supernatural.” She gave the example of CIO minister Kembo Mohadi who sold himself to necromancer Shepherd Bushiri last year.

Mugabe Humiliates Mnangagwa & Mphoko While On Holiday

President Robert Mugabe raised a stink while on his holiday by circumventing his two deputies Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa.

AnalysisMugabe classically humiliated the two by stepping into their way, blocking them from flying out of Zimbabwe to attend international functions. Instead of an Acting President, Mugabe came out himself, flying away from his holiday rest in the Middle East all the way to Mali.

The end of last week saw Mugabe jetting into Mali for a meeting either Mnangagwa or his counterpart Mphoko should have attended. To make matters worse, the two-day summit — titled “Partnership, Peace and Emergence”— was a meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers and yet Mugabe would gatecrash it at a time when he is not supposed to be at work.

Analysts say the development shows how Mugabe does not trust both Mnangagwa and Mphoko. ” At a time when we are expecting him to be preparing his successor’s baton stick, Mugabe is showing signs of destructive aging”, said Shelton Ncube. Meanwhile in December, last year, Mphoko voiced out that Zimbabweans do not trust Emmerson Mnangagwa.

BLOODY ATTACK: Thief Gunned

A suspected thief, believed to be part of a syndicate that specialises in stealing from haulage trucks at Beitbridge Border Post, was on Saturday morning shot and wounded when he tried to attack and disarm a security guard.

Sunboy Simango, who was part of four others who had gained entry by scaling the border parameter fence, was shot at around 6am.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said he was yet to get details on the matter.

Sources at the border yesterday said Simango had been taken to Beitbridge Hospital where he is recuperating under police guard.

“The suspect entered the border with two others with the intention of stealing goods from trucks waiting for clearance by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority on the arrivals commercial section,” said an official close to the scene.
“They were then spotted by alert security guards patrolling the area and were refrained as they were about to pounce on a truck. The trio resisted and started throwing stones at the guards, while Simango, who was carrying a metal bar, charged at one of the armed guards.”

The official said seeing that he was in danger, the security guard fired one warning shot in the air, but Simango kept on advancing towards him.
He said the guard then shot the man once on the left arm.

“Simango was then apprehended and handed over to the police,” said the official.
“His other two accomplices identified as Geza and Malvin Kabila fled the scene. Kabila was later arrested after he was cornered near the Limpopo River.

“The alleged gang leader known as Geza is still on the run.”
There has been an upsurge of thefts from vehicles, especially haulage trucks, at the border post. – state media

Soul Jah Love Smuggled Out Of Zim By “Prophet” Magaya To Europe ?

Dance-hall singer Soul Jah Love who at the end of 2016 appeared in a church video with controversial preacher Walter Magaya, is in the United Kingdom.

Despite reports that he had a show in the UK in December, the state owned Metro claims he is currently in a UK hospital.

His medical expenses at a British hospital, it is claimed, were under Magaya’s funding in a desperate move to make sure the singer is healed so that Magaya’s stage-prayer for the man is validated. Magaya has on video admitted to paying thousands of dollars in order to falsify facts.

In December Magaya’s workers staged a deceptive act claiming the singer had been healed and were pictured taking away the man’s wheelchair, SEE THE BELOW PICTURES:

But days later the singer’s condition has only worsened. The state media reports that the singer was admitted at a UK hospital after his condition worsened during his tour last month.

Reports coming from UK are that the Ndini Uya Uya hit-maker’s condition deteriorated whilst he was performing on stage in Northampton on New Year’s Eve.

The conquering Family boss is said to be still admitted but recovering.

“There were a number of shows still lined up for him but it is unfortunate that he could not fulfil them. On December 31 last year, he had to be rushed to hospital after he fell seriously sick. Hos performance was full of energy which affected his condition since he was already sick,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Jah Love’s manager Wadis Bimha said he had no finer details of what is happening to his artiste since he was not part of the UK entourage.

“I am not really aware of what is going on in the UK at the moment since I didn’t go with my artiste. I have heard of the reports but I am not in a position to authenticate the reports. I am going to get in touch with Jah Love and as soon as I get some information of what’s going on, I will furnish you with details,” he said.

THEFT SCAM: Manager Says “I Was Forced”

A SIMBISA southern region banking manager who is facing theft charges involving more than $90 000 has denied the charge saying he was forced to sign an incriminating affidavit.
Simbisa is a subsidiary of Innscor Africa.

Trust Machaka (40) pleaded not guilty to theft charges before Bulawayo magistrate Ms
Charity Maphosa on Friday.

His lawyer, Mr Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice, made an application for the charges to be dropped at the close of the State case. He alleged that two managers at Simbisa threatened Machaka with arrest and forced him to sign an affidavit incriminating himself.

Magistrate Maphosa dismissed the application saying there was evidence linking Machaka to the crime.

“There is a need for the accused to prove allegations that he was forced to sign the affidavit where he was admitting committing the offence. Accused offered two of his houses to settle the debt he owed. There were audits carried out that proved there were existing shortfalls,” said Ms Maphosa.
“Accused was overally in charge of the company’s money. He signed for it whenever it was banked. It was discovered during audits that he sent false statements that figures were balancing.”

Mr Sengweni had said Machaka was forced to sign the incriminating affidavit. “On September 9 he was called to Mr Tshuma’s (Human Resources Manager) office and was accused of stealing cash but he denied the allegations. He was threatened by Mr Tshuma and Mr Lifa Ncube (Finance Manager) with arrest before being forced to admit to theft,” said Mr Sengweni.

He said Mr Ncube and Mr Tshuma dictated to Machaka what to write in the affidavit.
“His six-year-old daughter could hear Mr Tshuma and Mr Ncube threatening him with arrest as she was at the office during the time the threats were being made. Had the accused person not been threatened he would not have admitted to the offence,” said Mr Sengweni.
Mr Ncube told the court that Machaka stole the money.

“Sometimes his subordinates would not be at work so he is the one who collected cash from shops and banked it. There are banking documents that have his signature on them as evidence,” he said.

Prosecuting, Mr Jeremiah Mutsindikwa said Machaka stole the money between July 2015 and July 2016.

“Machaka would receive daily takings from Pizza Inn, Bakers Inn, Creamy Inn, Chicken Inn, Mr Baker, Steers and Nando’s. His responsibility was to deposit the money into the company’s account. Each month he would under-bank the amounts,” he said. – state media

Zimbabwean Man Collapses, Dies While On Bus in Scotland

A Zimbabwean was left dying on a bus in Scotland for five hours after he suffered a heart attack.

No-one helped Gavin Wudinge despite two driver changes and many people coming in and out of the bus. Gavin got on the bus in his hometown at 1.10pm and was travelling to Leven to visit a friend. He took ill half an hour later but wasn’t found until 5.55pm.

His family have seen CCTV footage which shows him falling face down on a seat and passengers looking at him as they got off the Stagecoach bus.

When one finally checked on him, they found no heartbeat and raised the alarm. The 31-year-old father-of-three from Dunfermline, was taken to hospital on December 23.

Paramedics managed to restart his heart but his life support was turned off on Boxing Day with his family by his side.

He was laid to rest at the weekend with more than 100 mourners attending his funeral at the Headwell Bowling Club, in Dunfermline, Fife – some had travelled from Zimbabwe to attend.
Friends and family paid glowing tributes to the doting dad, who leaves daughters La-Ticia, 12, Shanyse, 10, and 18-month-old Yasmine.

Best pal Mick Walker, from Middlesbrough, knew Gavin for 14 years. He said: “Gavin was an amazing person – everyone who met him loved him. He had a unique quality. He lived for his children and family and loved being the centre of attention. He had a unique outlook on life.

Methodist minister Andrew Letby, who conducted the service, said: “Gavin was a special person to very many people. He changed the world for the better.”

Gavin’s cousin Derek Dodo, who lives in Markinch, Fife, helped organise the service.

“We were told by Stagecoach that the reason it took so long to get to Edinburgh was because of traffic and the bus was running late. But they neglected to mention the bus had stopped for an hour and a half in Leven. They should have checked”

Police are investigating the death, which they do not believe was suspicious. – DailyRecord

Zim Warriors Brick Algeria

Algeria . . . . . .. . . . . . (1) 2

Zimbabwe . . . . . . . . . (2) 2

ZIMBABWE’s Warriors came within minutes of causing a major upset as they turned on a hearty performance, only to let slip through what could have been a famous victory over Algeria in their African Cup of Nations Group C tie against Algeria last night.

The Warriors were nine minutes away from victory when they were caught on the break as the Desert Foxes rallied from behind to snatch a draw via the effort of their double scorer Riyad Mahrez.

Yet the Warriors had bravely fought from an early setback in which they found themselves trailing after just 12 minutes off a Mahrez curling shot that beat a diving Tatenda Mukuruva.

The Warriors suffered a huge setback to their game plan when talismanic forward Knowledge Musona hobbled off the pitch clutching his hamstring and coach Callisto Pasuwa replaced him with Mathew Rusike.

Zimbabwe, however, did not drop their heads after the double setback of conceding a goal and losing Musona and five minutes later they were back in it with Kuda Mahachi firing home an angled shot that was rich in quality.

Nyasha Mushekwi then put the Warriors ahead for the first time on the night when he cooly struck a penalty after Onismor Bhasera had been felled inside the box.

The Warriors could in the end have won the match with more precision and luck as Khama Billiat, brilliant all night twice came perilously close to finding the target only for the Algerian goalkeeper to deny him.

But it was Zimbabwe’s 81st minute chance that was sent begging by substitute Cuthbert Malajila that denied the southern African nation a memorable win.

Malajila had done well to steal possession inside the Algerian penalty box, but his finishing wasn’t as clinical when coming face-to-face with the goalkeeper.

The Bidvest Wits man also had Mahachi waiting unmarked to pounce but he chose to shoot at the goalkeeper’s outstretched legs.

Pasuwa reminded the reporters who had laughed at him during the pre-match press conference when he suggested that the Warriors were the favourites to win the match, repeating the feat of the 2004 AFCON finals in Tunisia when they humbled the Desert Foxes 1-2.

“I was asked a question which team is the favourite and I said Zimbabwe and you laughed,” said Pasuwa. “But there is no small team in this group. We think this point will motivate our boys to do better when we play our next game.”

Zimbabwe face Senegal in their next match on Thursday. Pasuwa believes the point they got from Algeria will spur his charges to even want to achieve more.

The Warriors showed so much intent in an entertaining match and returned blow-for-blow against the star-studded Algerians.

The Algerians however, came back from the breather firing from all angles. The Warriors did their best to hold on to their lead and had to survive some anxious moments along the way with defender Elisha Muroiwa almost turning the ball into his own nets in a desperate attempt to clear his lines.

Algerian Ramy Bensebaini also crashed his header against the woodwork as Zimbabwe fought for their lives until the 82nd minute when Mahrez found the equaliser from a distance.

“Our main weakness was, maybe, we sat too deep and we were spending the whole day defending. But again we were catching them on the break most of the time and we missed the chances. At this stage you need to be very perfect in front of goal in order for you to win games. You saw the way we missed a chance and they went straight away and equalised. It’s another level of football and we have learnt a lesson too.

“On the point dropped, yes we can say so because it was only nine minutes before full time and we conceded a goal,” said Pasuwa. – state media

Bishop Eddie Long Dies

CNN – Bishop Eddie Long, the controversial Georgia-based head of one of the nation’s largest megachurches, has died, according to the church he presided over. He was 63.

Long died after a battle with an aggressive form of cancer, according to a statement by the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

“Bishop Long was known as one of the most influential faith leaders in the world,” the church said in the statement. “He stood strong as a Kingdom Builder, pioneering leader, and revolutionary mind changer.”

“Although his transition leaves a void for those of us who loved him dearly, we can celebrate and be happy for him, knowing he’s at peace,” his wife Vanessa Long said in the statement.

At its peak New Birth Missionary Baptist Church had about 25,000 members.

But Long had a controversial past. In 2010, he and his church settled a lawsuit filed by four young men who accused him of pressuring them into sexual relationships while they were teenagers and members of his congregation.
Long, who preached passionately against homosexuality for years, denied the allegations.

In 2011, Vanessa Long filed for divorce. Shortly afterward, Long told his followers he was taking some time off to work on his marriage.

“I do want you to know that this is, for me and my family, especially with me, one of the most difficult times and things I’ve had to face, and only because my strength, other than God, is in Miss Vanessa,” he said at the time.
“And I want you to rest assured that I love her and she loves me. … In all the things that I’ve ever had to deal with and being pastor, my rock has been to be able to come home to a virtuous woman who always had peace in my house… We’re going (to) work it out.” he said.

In its statement the church called him “a family man and spiritual leader who was well respected and loved for his passion to unapologetically and courageously preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The couple later reconciled.

Long is survived by his wife, four children and three grandchildren, the church said.

The injured were taken to Nkai Hospital.

Most buses are stuck in Kana Mission because they cannot cross over Kana river which is overflowing and the area is more risky because there is no bridge.

Mugabe Blows $6Million as Zim Hospitals Crumble Without Drugs

President Robert Mugabe has blown over $6million on foreign travel single trip including one for treatment in Singapore and this happens at a time when the country’s hospitals are left at with an acute shortage of vital drugs.

Zimbabwe’s collapsing public health sector was yesterday hit with another dose of bad news after it was revealed the country’s major hospitals are only left with two weeks’ supply of a major drug used during surgical operations.

Health Minister Dr Daivd Parirenyatwa examines Thalitha Moyo suffering from bacterial meningitis while her mother Mrs Sinikiwe Ncube look on during a tour of Filabusi District Hospital in Filabusi

The unsettling news comes as President Robert Mugabe’s misfiring government has allocated a measly budget allocation to health services sector despite the humongous and worsening problems it is facing.

In his budget presentation in December, Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa reduced the vote for health from $330, 7 million to a disappointing $282 million — a figure that falls way short of meeting the big demands of the public health services sector.

Parirenyatwa hospital chief pharmacist Davison Vuragu has warned that the country is left with two weeks’ stock of atracurium — a major anaesthetic drug used in addition to other drugs for muscle relaxation during surgery — after the relocation of drug supplier, GSK which pulled out of the Zimbabwean market last year.

“The country’s hospitals have been hit by a shortage of atracurium injection following the pulling out of GSK from the Zimbabwean market.

“The GSK atracurium is the only one that is registered in the country and since Zimbabwean wholesalers could not import into the country, the stocks that were available have been exhausted.

“As Parirenyatwa hospital we are left with less than two weeks of stock.
“This means that we have a disaster on our hands as the drug is one of the major anaesthetic medicines that are used in surgery.

“Alternative molecules like cis-atracurium, vercuronium and rocuronium are also not available in the country and they are not registered,” said Vuragu in a letter written to new drugs’ supplier, Aspen.
Vuragu also noted that since Aspen had taken over the stocking of atracurium and cis-atracurium, they should urgently import the product to avert a disaster.

“Parirenyatwa hospital is the biggest referral centre in the country providing the greatest number of specialist surgical services.

“We therefore cannot afford to reduce our surgical operations which will have to be done if we do not receive more stock of atracurium injection soon.

“As the situation stands, not only Parirenyatwa hospital is affected but all major public and private hospitals,” further warned Vuragu.

Parirenyatwa, Harare hospital and Avenues clinic had sought alternative sources through local wholesalers but were experiencing problems with local banks said Vuragu.

As Zimbabwe’s political and economic rot has escalated over the past five years, the health sector has experienced myriad problems which include poor funding and severe shortages of drugs.
Last year, the country’s major referral hospitals had to suspend many services as a result of the shortage of drugs, including painkillers — exposing how much things have fallen apart in the country since the early 2000s.

United Bulawayo Hospitals and Harare Central Hospital were among the major health facilities that had to suspend normal services as a result of drug shortages, including pethidine — a synthetic compound used as a painkiller, especially for women in labour and during Caesarean operations.

And in November, Binga District Hospital, which is situated in one of Zimbabwe’s poorest regions, was forced to scale back its services as a result of water and electricity shortages. – Daily News

Bank Queues Suddenly Disappear

The cash crisis in Zimbabwe appears to have eased with queues disappearing at most banks while some supermarkets are offering cash-backs even without being asked.

The seeming return to normalcy has been attributed to a reported low demand for cash and increased confidence in bond notes.

A survey by Standardbusiness last week showed that queues had disappeared at several banks in the capital Harare, while automated teller machines (ATMs) were also dispensing cash. The ATM cash limit at most banks ranges between $50 and $100 dispensed in either dollars or bond notes.

Some banks, like POSB and Steward Bank, however, still had long queues of people waiting to withdraw cash. At the height of the cash crisis last month, a few banks were dispensing money through the ATMs.

Our survey found that retail shops such as Choppies and Food World that had suspended the cash-back facility had restored the service. They join OK, TM Pick n Pay and Cell Services, among others in offering the cash back facility.

An economist with a leading commercial bank said the disappearance of the cash queues was a result of a combination of factors that include increased confidence in bond notes and low demand for cash after the festive season.

“We are in the off-peak period after coming from the Christmas holiday. January is usually a month in which demand is low. People have already paid the school fees for the first term,” the economist said.

He said some of the panic withdrawals experienced last year were to do with the low confidence people had in bond notes.

The bond notes were introduced in November under a $200 million export incentive facility guaranteed by the African Export-Import Bank. There were sceptics who feared the bond notes would drive the economy into that frightful hyperinflationary era of 2007/2008.

“The Reserve Bank has managed the situation well by making sure bond notes are limited in terms of circulation to support basic transactions. That has cultivated the confidence. Panic was also driven by speculative tendencies as people feared the bond notes would drag the country back to hyperinflation,” the economist said, adding that the introduction of only the small $2 note had killed the appetite for unscrupulous individuals to come up with fake bond notes.

As at December 31, $72,9 million worth of bond notes were in circulation up from $12 million when the surrogate currency was introduced on November 28.

Economist Prosper Chitambara said the easing of the cash shortages had to do with the increased uptake in the use of plastic money. He said the increase in the bond notes in circulation was another factor.

“Market reception towards bond notes has been positive and it reduced pressure on US$ cash holding,” Chitambara said.

A banker told Standardbusiness last week that what was needed was to increase production in order to be able to generate more export receipts for the economy.

“It would be sad to have a good rainy season and we don’t put it to good use in terms of agriculture. It is incumbent on the authorities to ensure that we keep our eyes on the ball in terms of production,” the banker said.

However, critics say this could be a false calm before a storm.

“It happened in Germany after World War One. In Germany due to the massive uncertainty caused by the WWI, people started “saving” currency by keeping money at home. Despite the Bundesbank pumping in cash, people would withdraw and keep the money at home. So inflation didn’t immediately hit them. When people started spending their hordes of cash, the wheels then came off,” a banker said on Friday.

“The traders may also not have been banking. Most of this cash is actually bond notes in my view.
My take is that the dollar will continue to leak from the system. Bond notes will continue to take over. This may be the false calm before a storm. The tsunami is surely coming.” – Standard

MAGAYA INSERTED HIS MANHOOD INTO ME!: 4 Women Testify Against Prophet | LIVE VIDEO at 5pm

Log Onto ZimEye.com this afternoon at 5pm as ZimEye profiles 4 women who testify against spiritist preacher, Walter Magaya. The development comes as observers advised Magaya’s wife that she must desert the man – what top author Chimamanda Adichie hints might never happen.

Magaya Admits SEX VIDEO EXPOSE 100% Authentic

Spiritist preacher Walter Magaya has confessed that a serialised video expose of his sex attacks on several women is authentic.

Magaya has been fingered for attacking three church women in 2016.

The preacher is now classed as “a sex pest” following his own admissions that he has been pleasuring himself outside his matrimonial bed and furthermore paying thousands of dollars to cover it up.

Many of the preacher’s followers have begun deserting him after it emerged the latest admission is one of many with another video expose last year blown open by ZimEye.com saw Magaya paying an out of court lumpsum. During a ZimEye LIVE program, one Peter Makina, one of many, spoke out saying that he has since quit the church which he found to be a “dirty organisation” after Magaya said the only thing he disputes is that the police video file is chopped of a larger file which contains a police bribe demand, SEE DETAILS BELOW.

Magaya was last year shown video evidence by police officers the latter which resulted in the preacher breaking down. He can be seen in the video confessing to having an affair with Petronella Donhodzo who was last year suing him for rape before she withdrew the case after being allegedly paid to carpet the matter down.

Towards the end, he then suddenly discovers that someone is video recording and stops talking. He complains to the senior officer in charge to which the cop tells him he has personally given permission for recordings to be done.

The source says they are offloading more damning videos should he deny its authenticity, a development following ZimEye’s expose on the man’s affairs last year, SEE VIDEO (Story continues below):

With a rape case still opened which the preacher is currently fighting at the Constitutional Court…

will “Prophet” Magaya survive jail?

Meanwhile, Magaya’s spokesperson, Admire Mango, was quoted by the state media saying Magaya had resisted attempts by some two witnesses, one of whom is a senior police officer who had been making a spirited demand of $500 000.

Mr Mango said the witnesses have since posted on social media a video chop in which they sought to create an impression that Magaya had admitted to the charge when in actual fact the video showed how the witnesses sought to demand money from the man of the cloth.

“If they were acting in good faith they should have posted the whole video which is 30 minutes long and not what they did so that people make their own independent judgments without being swayed by the edited version.
“They have posted a three minute video by deleting the portion in which they were demanding $500 000. Initially the senior police officer wanted to extort Prophet Magaya $100 000, but he was steadfast in resisting that,” said Mr Mango.

“The fact of the matter is that these witnesses sought to extort Prophet Magaya using a guy called Kudakwashe alias Ranjisi who stays in Chitungwiza. Initially the senior police officer, who is an Assistant Commissioner made a demand of $100 000 which was turned down. He then instructed his lawyers to demand that same amount under the guise that he had been defamed by Prophet Magaya. Our leader, has however, remained steadfast in resisting the demand, ” said Mr Mango.

Whizz Kid Fails To Get Results

A BULAWAYO whiz kid who aced his Grade Seven examinations with four units is failing to proceed to Form One after his former school held on to his results for non-payment of fees.

The boy — Mbongeni Masuku — got four units in the 2016 Grade Seven examinations but his former school — Mawaba Primary in Lobengula West — is refusing to release his results over a debt of $442. The school instead gave him a hand written letter, signed by the school head Mrs Molina Dlamini, confirming that he owes the school and that he got four units in the examination.

“To whom it may concern. This is a confirmation of fees arrears for Masuku Mbongeni who last paid fees in 2014. Total fees $442, please assist in any way possible,” reads part of the letter.

When Sunday News visited the Masuku home yesterday in Lobengula West, Mbongeni’s mother, Ms Sithembiso Masuku said she was saddened by the fact that her child was failing to proceed to Form One yet he was intelligent. She said she was now putting everything in God’s hands as she had no way of raising the required $442.

“I have tried everything but nothing seems to come through and the school is not budging as they are saying they want the $442 before they release the results, they just told us that Mbongeni passed and wrote some letter confirming what we owe and the results.

“I am now appealing to well-wishers to assist me raise the required money. As for me my only source of income is going around doing people’s laundry, which does not assist much all. Mbongeni is an intelligent boy, who wants to study hard and be a medical doctor one day,” said a teary Ms Masuku.

She said she had managed to talk to officials at Masotsha High School, who had since indicated that they could assist Mbongeni get a bursary under the Mayor’s Cheer Fund but this could only be done after the production of the Grade Seven results.

“Yesterday (Friday) they called me to the school and made it clear that I have to pay what I owe them after which they can release the results. Mbongeni, on the other hand has said he wants to attend Masotsha High School, of which I have talked to the officials there but they want the results first,” said Ms Masuku.

In an interview, the soft-spoken Mbongeni said all he wanted to do was study hard so that one day he can help improve the livelihood of his family. He revealed that the secret to his excelling at school was working hard and forgetting the problems being faced at home.

“Countless times I would go to school hungry but this would not deter me in my studies. I would get homework and ensure that I pass it. My wish is that one day I become one of the topmost doctors in the country. I now wish that I could just get my results so that I go study at Masotsha High and fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor,” said Mbongeni.

However, Mawaba School Development Committee (SDC) chairperson Mr Nkosana Mazibisa refuted the allegations that the school had refused with Mbongeni’s results, instead saying they had asked Ms Masuku to come to the school to collect the results.

He said the school had even registered the pupil under the Mayor’s Cheer Fund Bursary, which would pay for his fees at any secondary school within their district but Ms Masuku had rejected the offer.

“I am actually surprised that this issue has got to this point. The school has actually been looking for Ms Masuku for the past week, we have sent a number of messages for her to come to the school to get the results and also sign for the bursary but she has not been forthcoming.

“What happened is that we registered her for the bursary, got Mbongeni a place at Sikhulile High school, which is within our district but she declined the offer saying she wanted her child to go to Masotsha High School, which is not in our district. At one point she even claimed that she did not need the bursary as she had secured a sponsor from the diaspora,” said Mr Mazibisa.

He said all they wanted now was for Ms Masuku to approach their offices so that she collects Mbongeni’s results and sign up for the bursary, which will ensure that he starts his Form One at Sikhulile High.

“We have informed officials at Sikhulile High to keep Mbongeni’s place open because what we are saying is that the boy’s life should not be affected. We will deal with the debt issue with Ms Masuku and not Mbongeni. The boy has a bright future ahead of him hence we should be seeing to it that we support him by all means possible. What Ms Masuku has to understand, however, is that we cannot recommend Mbongeni to go to Masotsha High because it is not in our district, he can only go to Sikhulile High and we have already secured a place there,” said Mr Mazibisa. – State Media

Algeria Clash With Zimbabwe

Algeria go into their Group B opener as clear favourites to take victory.

With a team that boasts BBC and Caf African player of the Year Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Yacine Brahimi, the Desert Foxes will pose huge problems for Zimbabwe.

Ranked 103 in the world and 30 in Africa, Zimbabwe are making their first appearance at the finals since 2006.

They will be heavily relying on Belgium-based striker Knowledge Musona for goals and inspiration.

MATCH PREVIEW

Zimbabwe upset Algeria 2-1 at the 2004 Cup of Nations in Tunisia in the only previous meeting between the countries during the 60-year history of the tournament.

But Algeria are a much stronger team now, while Zimbabwe are a lot weaker.

Mahrez and Brahimi provide midfield creativity for the Desert Foxes ,while Slimani and El Arabi Hillel Soudani are potent strikers.

There are, however, questions about the Algerian defence – and their sole Nations Cup title was won 27 years ago.

Zimbabwe have endured a troubled run-up to the tournament, with players refusing to attend a farewell gala and missing scheduled flights to the tournament in a dispute over pay.

The Warriors, who have all now arrived in Gabon, will need Musona and Africa-based Khama Billiat, who had a strong season at Mamelodi Sundowns, to play to their potential if they are to get anything out of the tournament.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Algeria coach Georges Leekens: “All the Algerian media and public are talking about is Senegal and Tunisia (the other two teams in Group B), but I am thinking only of Zimbabwe.

“I know they had some pre-tournament problems regarding bonuses, but the Nations Cup history is littered with teams who have defied off-field problems to succeed.

“Zimbabwe travelled to Cameroon this week and drew 1-1 in a warm-up match – that was an impressive result against a country that have been African champions four times.

“I view our game against them as a tough challenge. We need to apply our minds 100% to how we are going to conquer Zimbabwe.”

Zimbabwe coach Callisto Pasuwa: “We clearly know we are in a tough group that includes the likes of Algeria and Senegal.

“Football is decided on the pitch and if they can put enough effort just like they did against giants Cameroon in the friendly, then we will surprise everyone.

“I’m happy because our opponents will treat us like underdogs, taking the pressure off us and making it easier for a good surprise from the Warriors.”

“Norton Will Never Be The Same Again”

By Meluleki Ncube | The die has been cast for the envisaged mass rebuilding of Norton constituency, with the holding of a development summit, the Norton Constituency Strategic Planning workshop at ZIPAM yesterday.

Experts and stakeholders from diverse fields concluded the meeting with resolutions meant to advise the development path suggested by the MP, Hon. Temba Mliswa. The workshop was meant to capacitate the structures of the Norton Advisory Board, an idea of the legislator through which he wants to ensure community participation in development programs.

In a wide-ranging session punctuated by enthusiastic contributions, delegates pledged to tackle the issue of local authority misplacement of priorities head on as it was a major factor in the constituencys underdevelopment.

Auditor-General (AG) Ms Mildred Chiris recently-released report on local authorities for 2015, exposed corruption in most councils. In Norton the audit showed that the council had total employment costs of $3 108 321 out of expenditure of $5 022 069 indicating that employment costs constituted 62 percent in violation of the ministerial directive prescribing a ratio of 30:70 in favour of service delivery.

Issues of title deeds and security of tenure, alternative energy sources, the need for more schools, health facilities and others will be addressed by engaging the relevant authorities within the next two weeks. Prior to those engagements, the four components under the NAB, namely, Norton Sports Council, Norton Business Alliance, Norton Farmers Association and Norton Development Association will each hold meetings to come up with priority areas in their respective fields.

After debating it, the delegates adopted the recently circulated Norton Contituency Strategic Planning document as appropriate to guide Norton constituency’s development strategies.
The ofur ssociations under the Norton Advisory Board will then come up with key priority areas, implementation and report-back timelines.

It was agreed that the development path will follow the ZIMASSET clusters model, so as to plan according to government policy. The strategy is to then locate and lobby for Norton priorities within that framework. However, the ZIMASSET model will not be a straight-jacket in relation to issues and problems unique to Norton constituency. For example, although ZIMASSET locates fish vendors under the Small to Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) umbrella, the fish industry was actually Nortons heartbeat at present, requiring that it be treated in its own unique way.

In his guest presentation to the gathering, Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (ZIPAM) Director-General Professor Norman Maphosa, emphasized on the aspect of time management. He said nothing will stop the people of Norton from achieving their aspirations, as long as they set their priorities right.

One of Zimbabwes best young musicians at present, the Norton-based Mbeu and his group, Mhodzi Tribe provided entertainment for the delegates.

“I Will Forgive Mugabe”

*Ex VP tells SABC she is ready to forgive veteran ruler
*Speaks on Mugabe claims she is a witch and is of loose morals
*Says she didn’t challenge excesses while in government because of war background

Former vice-president Joice Mujuru says she is willing to forgive President Robert Mugabe for alleged human rights violation for the sake of peace in Zimbabwe if she wins the 2018 elections.

Mujuru, who is negotiating a coalition between her Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) party and other opposition parties, including the Morgan Tsvangirai-led MDC-T, said an inclusive government was crucial to rebuild the country.

“We will forgive Mugabe the same way we forgave [late Rhodesian Prime minister] Ian Smith,” Mujuru told SABC News Friday night.

Mujuru, who was fired from Zanu PF two years ago on allegations of plotting against Mugabe, said she will contest the 2018 elections and if she wins, will take cognisance of the fact that people needed peace and economic independence.

“Our people want a good life. Right now we have land, but what is coming out of it?” she said.

The ZimPF leader said she was unable to curb Mugabe’s excesses while she was in government as her background as a freedom fighter influenced her “non-combative attitude”.

“I wish it was that simple. There are two sides to a coin all the time. I am from the fighting forces where you go for training. As a youth, you look up to your seniors,” Mujuru said.

Mujuru said as a “freedom fighter, one remained with certain practices that will make you someone unable to challenge seniors.”

“Yes, people might say why did you keep quiet, but that is my other side. And here you are talking about Teurai Ropa who was below the age of 30,” said Mujuru.

The former vice-president said although she tried in her own way to highlight some of the issues, the “last word remained with the executive person [Mugabe].”

“You don’t want to appear as if you are fighting your seniors but instead take those issues that demonstrate you are for the people,” she said.

Mujuru said her stance was “soft” but it doesn’t mean she condoned Mugabe’s actions.

“These things happened whilst Joice was part of the group, but I didn’t want them to be so. I just did not want to ruffle any feathers,” she said.

“I tried to ask in public why people were being beaten. The masses saw that.”

She also denied reports that she was corrupt.

“If people say Joice was fighting for money, they would have seen fat bank accounts and if it was about power, I would have done it long back,” she charged.

Mujuru said when she was the vice-president of the ruling party after being elected in 2004, she could have easily influenced the populace, but she chose not to do that.

She said the 2013 elections were non-violent because she was leading the process.

“I did 43 rallies using the terrible Zimbabwean roads, but the president did only 12 using helicopters,” she said.

Mujuru also recalled how Mugabe fired her after accusing her of being a witch. She said the veteran ruler used seven Zanu PF youths to fight her.

“He told them I was a witch, of loose morals but look, I am a widow but I do not have a boyfriend. I do not know where they got that from,” she said.

“A character such as mine, why would I need a husband? If you had one before, why would you go around doing unbecoming things?

She said despite the onslaught against her, she held no grudges against Mugabe.

“Especially Mugabe himself whom I respect as a father and a father figure to the nation, knowing exactly that he was lying, I kept quite,” she said.

Mujuru is yet to earn the trust of many Zimbabweans who fear that she would return to Zanu PF if the ruling party extended a hand of reconciliation.

Her pledge to forgive Mugabe would not go down well with victims of gross human rights violations, especially in Matabeleland and Midlands where over 20 000 supporters were killed in newly independent Zimbabwe. – Standard

Mnangagwa Navigates Political Minefield

By Everson Mushava | VP Mnangagwa remains coy about ambitions to succeed President Robert Mugabe, but impatient followers are now speaking out
*Expelled Zanu PF youth leader says they will not stop attacking Mugabe and propping up Mnangagwa
*Energy Mutodi, Christopher Mutsvangwa etal clear about their choice for Zim’s next president

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa is between a rock and a hard place.

Touted as ailing President Robert Mugabe’s successor following his elevation to the vice-presidency after one of the greatest purges in Zanu PF’s history two years ago, the Justice minister has been navigating a minefield.

Less than a year after his appointment as a replacement for former vice-president Joice Mujuru — a long-time understudy of the soon to be 93-year-old ruler — Mnangagwa had to contend with first lady Grace Mugabe who wanted his career cut short allegedly for showing too much ambition.

He survived the onslaught by dumping his stormtroopers — a motley crew of war veterans and vocal members of his so-called Lacoste faction — the same way he did with the likes of Jonathan Moyo in the aftermath of the infamous Tsholotsho Declaration in 2005.

Zanu PF at the time accused six provincial chairpersons of plotting against Mugabe by seeking to elevate Mnangagwa ahead of Mujuru.

Last year after war veterans’ demand that Mnangagwa should immediately take over from Mugabe, the vice-president pledged his loyalty to Zanu PF’s life president.

For a while things seemed to have returned to normal but as details of a controversial New Year ’s Eve party Mnangagwa held at his Zvishavane homestead unfold, it is now becoming clear that his backers are becoming increasingly impatient to see him take the baton from Zimbabwe’s only ruler since independence nearly 37 years ago.

As an experienced politician, the vice-president would naturally keep his cards close to his chest, but a growing number of unofficial spokespersons are taking advantage of social media to lay out the “crocodile’s” game plan.

Facebook and Twitter profiles of Gokwe Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena and controversial businessman Energy Mutodi are now the go-to platforms to gauge the mood in the Lacoste camp as much as Moyo’s Twitter timeline reflects the thinking among his critics in Zanu PF.

“The year 2017 may see Mnangagwa being elevated to president and he is most likely to pick Constantino Guvheya Chiwenga [army commander] as his deputy and Kembo Mohadi [State Security minister] as second vice-president while other security chiefs will be assigned to powerful ministries,” Mutodi wrote on Facebook on New Year’s Eve just hours before he was snapped meeting the then acting president at his homestead in Mapanzure, Zvishavane.

Mnangagwa, who was pictured knocking back what appears to be whisky from a mug written, “I am the boss”, also met with at least two dozen activists who were either suspended or expelled by Zanu PF, among them former Zanu PF Matabeleland South youth chairman Washington Nkomo, his Mashonaland Central counterpart, Godfrey Tsenengamu, Edmore Samambwa from Midlands, Tawanda Mukodza (Manicaland) and Vengayi Musengi from Mashonaland West.

The mug fiasco has given ammunition to the VP’s G40 rivals who say it is enough proof that he is plotting against Mugabe.

Again, Mnangagwa reacted by distancing himself from Mutodi and the Chris Mutsvangwa-led war veterans who have openly called on Mugabe to pave way for his junior.

However, analysts say this time around, the Midlands Zanu PF political godfather would find it difficult to wriggle out of the web he has been entangled in by his vocal backers.

Harare-based political commentator Vivid Gwede said it was clear Mnangagwa was the puppeteer behind the sometimes comical advocates for his presidency. These include youth leaders who were expelled for allegedly pushing Lacoste interests in Zanu PF.

“They [expelled members attacking Mugabe] are speaking on his [Mnangagwa] behalf,” he said.
“He only dismisses them when he is under pressure to show his loyalty to Mugabe.

“It is Mnangagwa’s political strategy to use the expelled members to advance his factional agenda.

“He is the biggest beneficiary in it and he could obviously be sponsoring the members behind the scene. That could be the reason why he invited them to the party at his home during the festive season.”

Gwede said Mnangagwa blundered by wining and dining with Mugabe’s sworn enemies in the bitter succession battle that has been intensified by the president’s advanced age.

“Children are known for protecting and fighting for their fathers and as a result, Mnangagwa should not have dined with those members, attacking the person who appointed him to the VP post,” he said.

But political analyst Eldred Masunungure said Mnangagwa could not be naïve enough to send people to attack Mugabe, insisting the likes of Mutodi and Mutsvangwa were only expressing what they truly believed in.

“It is all about dynamics of the factional gladiation,” he said.

“The starting point is, G40 has control of the party while Lacoste controls the state machinery.

“Lacoste members feel aggrieved that they are being expelled from the party at the machinations of G40.

“They see Mugabe as authorising the purging and thus [they are] venting their anger on him.

“The reality is Team Lacoste members expelled from the party remain loyal to Mnangagwa and they continue to support him. They think Mugabe allowed their ejection from the party.

“Even the communiqué by provincial chairpersons censuring Mnangagwa over the boss mug, it shows G40 is in control of structures and are now harnessing the opportunity to deal with Mnangagwa.

“It is a continuation of the factional battles until the succession issue is resolved.”

Godfrey Tsenengamu, a former Zanu PF youth leader in Mashonaland Central who was one of the first casualties of the purge against the Lacoste faction, claimed that no one gives them instructions to attack Mugabe.

He said the disgruntled party members were used by Mugabe until “we discovered that he is taking us for a ride and playing games with our future. We had no option, but to confront him in the way we have been doing.”

“His divide and rule antics, gross insincerity and selfishness has caused us to take him head on,” Tsenengamu added.

“No one is sending us, we feel that we are our own liberators and we have to do it ourselves.

“We have long ceased to be hired ‘mercenaries’ after the Mujuru debacle.

“Mnangagwa is too loyal to Mugabe that he can’t even plan against him as he regards him as his father and Mugabe knows that, thus taking advantage of his subordinate’s loyalty.

“This overdose of loyalty is Mnangagwa’s biggest undoing and he risks going down together with Mugabe.”

He added: “I don’t see any reason why people must not support Mnangagwa if that is what they want for Mugabe was supported against Ndabaningi Sithole.

“Those who were for Mugabe against Sithole criticised Sithole and pointed out his weaknesses and there is nothing new about us doing the same. It is there in history.”

He said he personally didn’t care what people thought as long as he secured his future.

“Mugabe himself knows who Mnangagwa is for they have been together for more than half a century and if he is to believe that Mnangagwa is sending anyone, then that’s for him to do, but he knows the truth,” Tsenengamu continued.

“So is Mnangagwa the one also sending those from opposition parties to criticise President Mugabe?
And if the answer is positive, then he has a massive following and is electable 100%.

“This is our struggle and not ED’s [Mnangagwa] struggle. He may at our discretion lead us at the appropriate time, but it is our struggle.

“We cannot allow ourselves to be a cult again in the same way the party has been turned into a cult and against that background, we don’t need Mnangagwa to think for us in this struggle. We will do it by ourselves.”

He said they were attacking Mugabe because despite being an undeniable hero, he was presiding over the demise of a once great nation.

In reference to G40, Tsenengamu said: “If they all genuinely love him [Mugabe] as they claim, let them advise him to call it quits for his own sake, his family, the party, the nation and the whole region.

“If the truth is to be told, he has passed his [best-before date] and all those in Zanu PF know that, but they continue to pretend.”

Mnangagwa has also found support in the state media, with Mugabe’s spokesperson George Charamba yesterday insinuating in his Nathaniel Manheru column that the VP’s ascendancy was now unstoppable. – Standard

Musindo Fights For Makandiwa

DESTINY for Africa Network leader Obadiah Musindo has leapt to United Family International Church (Ufic)founder Emmanuel Makandiwa’s defence after his church was ridiculed for telling followers the amounts of money they had to give as “seed” in 2017.

In a video posted on Facebook, Ufic spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufa encouraged people to “seed” money ranging from $77, $770, $7 700 and $77 000.

Explaining the reasoning behind the figures, Kufa said, “Number seven is a prophetic number, a number of perfection which makes the year 2017 a year for your dreams, hopes, aspirations and all your visions, if only you are willing to start it perfectly.”

However, following the clip there was a huge public outcry, with some people accusing the charismatic cleric of robbing his congregants using the Bible.

But in a statement, Musindo dismissed the attacks, saying numbers were not theological, but more scriptural.

“Look at the book of Revelations, the issue of the 12 disciples as well as the 12 tribes of Israel,” he said.

“In the things of God, we do not have tutors, referees, the chief executive officers of God or the advocates of God who think they can speak on God’s behalf.”

Musindo said people should not monopolise Christianity.

“We have people who criticise tongues and healing yet all these are in the Bible,” he said.

“There’s nothing wrong or unscriptural for the people under Ufic to give according to the instructions given by their leaders.

“Many people are prophetically told to give or seed in many ways. It is not everything that we do in the church that has a biblical reference or biblical example,” Musindo said.

He also fired a volley at some “pastors” who did not cast out demons.

“A church which is not prophetic is so blind. I see bishops and leaders wearing collars. Where is this found in the Bible? What about titles such as ‘Dr’? where is the title ‘Dr’in the things of God?” he quipped.

He also said church leaders were overstepping their mandate.

“You are not supposed to attack other churches as if you are leading perfect churches yourselves,” Musindo said.

“There are serious problems happening in other churches that we are reading about in newspapers involving fights and legal actions against one another.”

He said he had concluded from his own investigations that Makandiwa was a serious entrepreneur who employed a lot of people. – Standard

Econet, Mandiwanzira Fight Gets Nasty

Days after reversing extortionist government-approved mobile data charges by Econet Wireless, Information Communication Technology and Courier Services minister Supa Mandiwanzira is yet to know peace.

Mandiwanzira was hounded out of his holiday by angry Zimbabweans on social media after the country’s largest mobile phone operator by subscription, Econet Wireless, announced shocking mobile data charges that went up 25 times in a flash and he had to do the unprecedented by intervening, while Labour minister Prisca Mupfumira was holding fort at the ICT ministry.

The increase followed a Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) directive to mobile operators setting a floor price for data and voice calls. Potraz claimed the prices were proposed by mobile operators.

Mandiwanzira had to douse the fire after Zimbabweans besieged his Twitter account demanding an explanation, resulting in him announcing that the floor price had been suspended.

However, the minister courted Econet’s ire after he claimed that Strive Masiyiwa’s company was actually the one that proposed the new prices, adding that the telecommunications company had gone further than what government had prescribed.

Econet, in a stinging statement released late on Friday night, accused the minister of being dishonest after he claimed that he was not aware of the mobile operator’s “shockingly” high tariffs and accused the company of “gluttonous corporate greed”.

The mobile phone operator said problems started in July last year when Potraz refused to allow it to continue running its promotions that included free WiFi on prepaid data bundles, international bundles promotion, the SMS and win promotion. Econet said Potraz’s excuse was that it wanted to introduce a new framework.

The framework, Econet said, had been necessitated by government arguing that low data tariffs led to social media abuse.

“Liaison meetings between [the] operator and regulator followed. The regulator communicated its intention to fix a floor price for data and invited us to contribute to the determination of the floor price,” read part of the statement.

“We fully participated in this exercise and in good faith.

“Being the only operator that has paid the punitive licence fee of $137,5 million and being the only operator that is owed millions of dollars by government-owned competitors in respect of interconnection charges, our pricing structures are bound to be more expensive than those of our government-owned competitors.”

Econet said a regulatory notice number 3 of 2016 was issued on December 7 2016 and amended on December 29, and again on January 9 2017.

The notice set floor prices on data and voice and fixed a mandatory compliance date of January 9.

Econet said on January 9 it adjusted the tariffs when it became clear that Potraz was fully aware of the involvement of the ICT minister.

It said the tariffs were reversed after it became clear that there was a sinister plot behind the directive, which it alleges involved the minister.

“On January 12 2017, when it became clear that an exercise that was driven by the regulator with the full knowledge and participation of the minister and our competitors, who are under the minister’s control, to portray the new Potraz director general [Gift Kallisto Machengete] in bad light and portray Econet as gluttonous and insensitive to the public, our board directed us to reverse the data tariff increase,” Econet said.

The mobile operator said the new tariffs were only introduced at Mandiwanzira’s instigation and it now believes it was a ploy to set them on a collision course with Machengete.

Econet believes Mandiwanzira was trying to sabotage its business to help government-controlled Telecel and NetOne gain ground on the market.

“We wrote and delivered a letter to Potraz on January 12 2017 in which we indicated we would revert to our old tariff increases if the regulator did not ensure that all operators complied with its regulatory notice by end of January 12 2017,” Econet added.

“To anticipate our reversal of the date tariff increases, the minister, who is supposed to be on leave, published a notice in the press in which he claimed to reverse the data tariff increases.

“Our reversal to the tariff increases followed a directive of the board.

“The duplicity by the minister is intended to discredit us in the eyes of our customers and in the eyes of the public and to also portray the new director general of Potraz as incompetent.”

Econet accused Mandiwanzira of killing the mobile phone business through his alleged duplicity, imploring government to act with speed to avert the collapse of the critical sector.

“We urge the government of Zimbabwe to move decisively against the capture of this all-important industry by an individual who has such inconsistency and duplicity,” Econet said.

“Since his appointment to this ministry, he has behaved as if he is the minister of the government-owned entities alone and has been relentlessly attacking us without just cause and reversing the gains that this sector has made over the years.”

Meanwhile, Mandiwanzira escalated the war of words yesterday, accusing Econet of politicking and insisted that the company was behind the unreasonable tariff hike.

“I have noted a public statement by Econet Wireless which is highly political and defamatory,” he said in a statement.

“The political undertones of the statement, which takes a dig at the ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services and myself are alarming.

“I urge the company to stay away from politics and stick [to]its core mandate of business.

“Rather than attack the minister and the government, it is advisable that Econet should address concerns by their subscribers who are and have been losing money through seemingly fraudulent billing that makes data credit disappear even when susbcribers have not used it.

“These complaints have come to my office, Potraz and are widely shared on social media.”

The minister claimed that Econet’s top management had visited his offices on several occasions trying to persuade him to ignore proposals to reduce tariffs because it would threaten the existence of the business.

He said Econet wanted the tariffs to be increased because it said it was under pressure to service its loans with unnamed European bankers.

According to the now suspended new tariffs that had been effected on January 11, the cheapest bundle of data (5MB on a standard connection plus another 5MB available on WiFi) cost 50 cents.

For 10MB plus the bonus WiFi 10MB it would have cost $4, while the highest amount of data one can get (2.5GB plus 2.5GB bonus on WiFi) was pegged at $50.

Social media bundles for Whatsapp and Facebook that have been the cheapest avenue for partial internet access had also gone up and would have been based on usage rather than daily, weekly or monthly flat charges.

The cheapest bundle was also set at 50 cents and it came with 10MB of data plus a 10MB bonus.
For $2,50 (which is close to what subscribers used to pay for a month’s access) one would get 80MB plus an extra 80MB on WiFi. – Standard

BLOODY ATTACK: Diasporan Knifes Peacemaker in Love Triangle

A SOUTH AFRICA-BASED Masvingo man has been arrested after he allegedly fatally stabbed a fellow villager with an Okapi knife for playing peacemaker in a love triangle.

Witness Mapurisa (24) of Village 9, Mushandike Resettlement Scheme tripped Taruvinga Tazira (23) of Acton Farm to the ground and used an Okapi knife to stab him before fleeing. Taruvinga was rushed to Masvingo General Hospital hours after he was stabbed on New Year’s Day but doctors failed to remove the knife resulting in him being transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare. Although the knife was later removed in Harare, he died five days later while admitted to the institution.

His body was taken to the same hospital’s mortuary for a post-mortem. Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula could neither confirm nor deny the incident saying police had not yet received the report.

“We have not yet received a report to that effect,” said Insp Mazula.

However, Sunday News visited Buka Business Centre about 20 kilometres from Masvingo along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road where villagers and family members narrated the story. A relative to the deceased, Mr Alfred Mutete said police came to the area the following day and arrested Mapurisa together with his younger brother Innocent (21) at their grandmother’s home where they were hiding. He said on the day, Mapurisa wanted to attack his rival suitor, a fellow villager, only to turn against Taruvinga who was playing peacemaker.

“All along, Mapurisa has been staying in South Africa but was in love with Taruvinga’s neighbour Ms Shelta Mukaro (22).

During his absence, Ms Mukaro allegedly dated another man from the village,” said Mr Mutete

He alleged that on the day at around 6pm while at Buka Business Centre, celebrating the arrival of the New Year Mapurisa confronted Ms Mukaro’s unidentified boyfriend over the issue.

“A dispute ensued between the two and Taruvinga intervened in an attempt to restrain them from fighting. Instead, Mapurisa turned against Taruvinga, tripped him to the ground before I attempted to block him but failed. Mapurisa pinned Taruvinga to the ground and stabbed him on the left nose and cheek leaving a deep cut,” said Mr Mutete.

He said Taruvinga attempted to recover from the attack but the emotionally-charged Mapurisa further pressed him down before “planting” the knife into his head, leaving it stuck. He then fled the scene.

Father of the late Taruvinga, Mr Gerson Tazira said the incident happened a few minutes after he had left the deceased with the accused, ostensibly in a jovial mood at the business centre.

“AT around 7pm, I left them in a celebratory mood and came home as I had enough of the eats and drinks. After about 30 minutes I heard one of the villagers calling out my name and I came out of the house to investigate. I initially thought he was being attacked and wanted my help only to realise that he was alerting me,” said Mr Tazira.

He said the villager informed him that his son had been stabbed by Mapurisa as he attempted to restrain him from stabbing a fellow villager.

Mr Tazira said he went back to the business centre to investigate but stumbled upon his son lying on the tarmac in a pool of blood writhing in pain with the knife stuck into his head, about a kilometre from the scene, near his plot.

“My son wobbled for about a kilometre from the business centre before he fell unconscious just on the edge of my maize plot but on the busy Masvingo-Beitbridge highway. We were fortunate at that time that a Chivi-bound ambulance crew arrived and agreed to rush him to Masvingo General Hospital,” he said.

He said the personnel at the hospital failed to remove the knife and referred him to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

The village head, Mr Tinago Konde, said the whole village was still in shock.

Meanwhile, Mr Tazira is demanding $3 000 being hospital and travelling expenses the family incurred on their late son.

He said compensation will be determined at a yet to be held family meeting. – State Media

Toddler Dies In House Fire

IN a heart wrenching incident, a two-year-old toddler died while her twin sister is battling for life at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare when their house was gutted by fire following an electrical fault which developed from a nearby electricity line.

The horrific incident occurred in Redcliff last week when Mutsawashe Chekayi died while her twin sister Makanaka is nursing injuries sustained in the inferno after she sustained 40 percent burns when their house was razed down by fire following an electrical fault. The incident happened when their mother Kudakwashe Chekayi, a police officer was on night duty.

However, Ms Chekayi’s other two twin brothers Tadiwa and Tatenda escaped unhurt but all the furniture and other valuables in the house worth thousands of dollars were reduced to ashes.

Ms Chekayi confirmed the incident but could not shed more light as she was still failing to come to grips with the terrifying incident and was also still nursing her other child Makanaka at Parirenyatwa.

“It is true that my daughter died in an inferno after a fire broke out following an electrical fault. I was not at home when it happened so I might not be able to tell you the matter in detail. However, I am deeply saddened by the matter but I have to accept what has happened because God saw it fit,” she said.

A tenant at the house, Mr Ophias Sibangani said the fire broke out at around 8pm when the maid, Sophia Sigodo was preparing supper in the kitchen while Makanaka and Mutsawashe were sleeping in one of the spare bedrooms.Mr Sibangani said Ms Chekayi’s younger sister Nyasha was watching television in the lounge with Tadiwa and Tatenda when they heard the two children crying.

“Nyasha rushed to the kitchen to alert Sophia and went next door to seek assistance. Sophia immediately rushed to the spare bedroom but the entire house was now engulfed in fire. She managed to take Makanaka and Mutsawashe outside the house but they had already sustained serious burns,” he said.

Mr Sibangani said the neighbours called an ambulance which arrived after about 10 minutes and rushed Makanaka and Mutsawashe to Kwekwe District Hospital where they were transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals as their conditions were critical.

“When the fire tender arrived, the house had already been reduced to a shell as all windows and the roof had been destroyed and there was nothing they could do,” he said.

Redcliff Mayor Councillor Freddy Kapuya said one of the children, Mustawashe, died on her way to Parirenyatwa and was buried in Gweru on Tuesday last week.

“It is suspected that the fire broke out as a result of an electrical fault. The fire also came from a nearby electricity pole and started from the ceiling,” he said. – State House

Taxi Driver Left For Dead, ‘Siphatheleni’ Robbed

A FIVE-MAN gang allegedly carjacked a pirate taxi driver, axed him and left him for dead before using his vehicle to rob an illegal money changer of more than R75 000 in assorted currencies.

Police have arrested three suspects following the heist on Tuesday. The police Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) arrested Venson Nzima (22) of Pumula East, Africa Ncube (24) of Lobengula West, Anisto Nyoni (22) of Emganwini the following day and recovered the stolen car — a Toyota Starlet.

The detectives have spread a dragnet for Farai Moses Chitsa (37) whose last known address is A6297 Pumula Old and Elton Nzima of 72018 Lobengula West. Fellow pirate taxi drivers told the Sunday News that the five hired Mr Onisimo Matanga near Alasco Supermarket in the city centre around 5pm.

“They asked him to take them to a shopping centre along Old Gwanda Road,” said the source.

“When they were about to get to the shops they asked the driver to stop. One of them grabbed him by the neck from the back seat and others began punching him and striking him with a small axe. They also hit him with a hammer.”

The gang, added the source, demanded cash and threatened to kill Mr Matanga if he resisted. They allegedly robbed him of an unspecified amount of cash and his cellphone. The criminals pushed a heavily bleeding Mr Matanga out of the vehicle and sped off in his vehicle. A pirate taxi driver who identified himself as Mr Sam Ncube said Mr Matanga staggered to the shops where a passersby called an ambulance and made a police report.

“He was treated at UBH (United Bulawayo Hospitals) and discharged the following day. His condition is said to be stable but he is refusing to receive visitors,” said the taxi driver.

Mr Matanga’s brother, who declined to be named, said Onisimo was out when the news crew visited his home in Barham Green suburb. He was also not at work in the city centre. Onisimo could not be contacted on his mobile phone because it was stolen.

The robbers allegedly drove to the city centre where they started shadowing Ms Annie Usavi, an usiphatheleni (money changer). Ms Usavi yesterday said they tailed her to Pumula South suburb and deliberately side swiped her car.

“Three of the gangsters jumped out of the vehicle and pretended to assist me. I got out of my car and they attacked me,” said Mrs Usavi who appeared to be still shaken by the incident.

“They punched me and grabbed my handbag. I couldn’t resist because they were too strong. The bag contained R55 000, $1 320, P7 600, two Samsung cellphones and personal stuff,” she said.

Ms Usavi said she stood by the roadside in shock as the gang drove away.

“I could not believe I had been robbed where there was still so much traffic, a stone throw from my house. I’m still feeling pain on my face and upper body. The robbers looked mean enough to kill me,” she said.

Fortunately, Ms Usavi said, she recognised one of her attackers. She said she got into her car and drove to Pumula Police Station in a daze.

“I made a report. The police arrested the man I had identified and I’m told he implicated the others. Detectives recovered some of my money and property from all three suspects’ homes,” said Ms Usavi.

A source close to investigations said police recovered R9 700 and $160. Ms Usavi said the arrested trio alleged Chitsa had the bulk of the money. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector precious Simango confirmed the robberies.

“Police have arrested three men who are suspected to have been part of a five-man gang that allegedly carjacked a taxi driver and used his car to rob a Pumula South woman. Two suspects are on the run,” said Insp Simango.

She appealed to members of the public who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the duo to contact their nearest police station.

“Alternatively, they can put the information in a police suggestion box or call (09) 885479 the 24-hour police hotline,” said the police spokesperson. – State Media

MaZimbabweans Yes We Can Marches Against Mass Deportations

Zimbabweans braved the chilly weather in the march against mass deportations with the Scotland based Movement for Justice (MFJ) in Brixton today on 13/01/17, between 12 and 2:00 pm.

Members of the MaZimbabweans Yes We Can joined the MFJ in marching around Brixton in a well organised demo attended by about more than a hundred different nationalities.

The protesters were chanting against mass deportation, racism orchestrated by Brexit, chartered planes being hired to deport what the Home Office terms “illegal immigrants”.

Cars, buses, and business in shops came to a standstill giving way to the peaceful protesters. Even the police stopped and gave way to the protesters. Different nationalities came together and presented a unity of purpose. Passersby lined the streets of Brixton as the protesters chanted different but well coordinated slogans.

The demo ended with speeches from different organisations and a plan for future demos was read by the organisers.

Mugabe, African Leaders Attack France

President Robert Mugabe joined more than 30 African Heads of State and Government gathered for the 27th France-Africa Summit have attacked France and other western governments insisting that there should be African solutions to African problems. Mugabe has at present even delayed accrediting France’s ambassador to Zimbabwe after the western nation’s previous envoy flew out of Harare while joking about Mugabe’s health and was also accused by Mugabe of supporting the Tajamuka protest group.

The Summit which ended here yesterday with issues around peace and security taking centre stage.

The high level summit — held at the Bamako International Conference Centre — witnessed exchanges, discussions and commitments on pertinent issues between the African and French leaders.

Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and France President Mr Francois Hollande co-chaired the two-day forum.

Summarising some of the resolutions that were set for adoption by the leaders later yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said: “Basically the document looks at two issues that is peace and security in the African region and partnership and development between Africa and France. “France has been active especially in this part of the world (West Africa), assisting in the security sector where there has been problems of rebels of various kinds.

“This is an area that is hot to Mali and neighbouring countries and a lot of time was devoted to discussing these issues.”

France has been deploying soldiers in Mali since 2013 to help the conflict-ridden nation push back an Islamist insurgency. This resulted in a peace deal between the Malian Government and Tuareg-led rebels in 2015.

President Mugabe, then African Union chairperson, oversaw the major peace deal, imploring the warring parties to adhere to the accord and “turn their swords into ploughshares”.

On economic development, Minister Mumbengegwi said: “France has already pledged 20 billion euros towards development assistance, some of which will assist French companies willing to invest in Africa.”

France claims to have delivered 11,5 billion euros of development assistance between 2014 and 2016 to Africa and plans to spend about 4 billion per annum for the next two years to reach the 20 billion euros mark pledged at the 2013 France-Africa Summit in Paris.

In Zimbabwe, a number of French companies are taking up vast investment opportunities in the Southern African country’s manufacturing sector.

Opening yesterday’s summit, President Keita called for commitment and concerted efforts from African countries to end challenges bedeviling them.

“Mali is not yet stable but you showed trust and Malian people will not forget their debt to you,” he said. “We are facing the threat of terrorism but if we join hands we will conquer and become fully developed.”

President Hollande echoed the same sentiments, saying “nothing is impossible when we are united and acting in solidarity to counter terrorism”.

“France is not there to exert influence or change political decisions made by African countries,” he said. “We are here for peace, working with African countries to build their defence capabilities. It is African countries that have to ensure they provide security for Africans. It is Africa that has to combat terrorism, we are just here to offer support. “

African Union chairperson, President Idriss Deby of Chad said the summit’s theme — “Partnership, Peace and Emergence” — addressed the concerns of African countries.

“This is a period of major turbulence in Africa,” he said. “The turbulence is two-fold, security and economic challenges which are affecting development programmes. We have no choice but to unite our forces.

“Africa is a place where peace and security are always threatened and it is us who have to re-double our efforts to counter this.”

He said the summit could not deliberate without pondering the issue of migration that sees thousands of African youths leaving their countries in quest of opportunities elsewhere, mainly Europe. – State Media

BONUS PAYMENTS: Govt Boobs

Robert Mugabe’s administration has once again dodged civil servants on their much awaited bonus payments.

Last year the government frantically offered to batter trade the bonuses with residential stands, an offer that was slammed by the furious workers.

The civil servant’s leaders are this week resuming their crunch meetings over payment of the 2016 bonuses. The no-nonsense workers are demanding to know specific dates for the release of the 13th cheque.

Last week, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa said he was not able to comment as he was on official leave and would return to work next week while his Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare counterpart Minister Prisca Mupfumira was not available for an interview. Apex Council President Mrs Cecilia Alexander however told The Sunday Mail that the workers are going to resume meetings with Government this week to pick up from where they left last year.

She said the 2016 bonuses will be the main agenda of the talks while other issues on the table include the 2017 salary pay dates and working conditions.

“Yes we were supposed to meet with our employer but we have decided to give them more time to work on the issue since we realised that some of them are still to resume their respective duties after the festive holidays,” she said.

“However starting next week (this week), we are going to do a serious follow up on the matter as we would want Government to give us concrete dates on when we will start receiving our bonuses for 2016.”

Mrs Alexander said although the workers appreciate Government’s offer on residential stands, the Apex Council is of the opinion that the proposal came in late and should only be considered for 2017 bonuses going forward.

“Government had offered to give us the bonuses in the form of stands but we felt the proposal came a bit late. We might consider the offer this year but as for the 2016 bonuses, we are expecting cash,” she said.

“We would want an answer on the matter as soon as possible.”

Human Resources expert Mr Memory Nguwi urged the civil servants to reconsider the residential stands offer in light of cash flow challenges being faced by Government.

“The civil servants should consider the key issue and look at the financial cash flows being experienced by the Government,” he said.

“Sometimes it is better to compromise and take what is there because the opportunity might pass and never present itself again.”

Government has been struggling to pay civil servants’ bonuses over the years due to cash flow challenges.

Last year, authorities staggered their bonuses with the last batch of civil servants receiving their 2015 bonuses well into the second half of last year.

President Mugabe has been on record saying despite the low revenue inflows, Government workers deserve to get the 13th cheque as per tradition.

In November last year, Government introduced a residential scheme for civil servants as part of the employer’s non-monetary incentives to workers. Over 500 000 civil servants have registered for the scheme with modalities of the project already underway. – state media/agencies

Zim Dollar Resurfaces?

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is said to be bringing back the loathed Zimbabwe dollar through the back door by introducing bond notes as the RBZ prints a new $5 bond note.

Former Finance Minister Tendai Biti says the word bond denotes a loan or a legal instrument issued by the Finance minister in terms of the Public Finance Management Act. But just like bond coins, bond notes are being issued by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) as legal tender signed in (accordance with) the RBZ Act, meaning to say bond notes will be money and not a prescribed instrument. So the bond paper will also be a currency. It will also be used as legal tender. It will be used interchangeably with the US dollar and for that reason, there should be no doubting in anyone’s mind that the central bank is trying to reintroduce the Zimdollar.

This came as the central bank announced it is printing a new $5 bond note denomination.

The currency notation will be in full circulation by March this year.

RBZ Governor Dr John Mangudya made the announcement through the state media.

The $1 bond coins and $2 bond notes were introduced in November last year as an export incentive and to ease cash shortages triggered by flight of the US dollar. US$72, 9 million of bond notes are now on the market after the RBZ paid the export incentive to exporters of goods and services, including diaspora remittances.

Mangudya told the state media that the $5 notes will be released in March in a gradual manner with monetary authorities wary of not over-flooding the market with the currency.

“The $5 notes will be unveiled when it comes at the appropriate time, normally those are issues of security, but they will be on the market during the first quarter around March.

“We are not going to flood the market but we want to make sure that bond notes continue to be a reliable medium of exchange.”

He encouraged employers to manage their employees so that they do not queue for cash hours on end instead of engaging in productive work. “Employers need to manage their employees better. What time will they be working if they spend the whole day at the bank?’ he asked.

“If you check we normally have problems when people get paid. Instead of working they will be at the bank.”

Mangudya encouraged members of the public to withdraw cash on a gradual basis, saying their money is safe within the banking system. He said panic withdrawals put unnecessary pressure on banks.

“Our banking sector is sound, there is no need to panic and put unnecessary pressure on the banks. We must give our banks some space.

“We are encouraging people to use plastic money and mobile banking. This is very critical because it reduces pressure on the hard cash. The purpose of money is to transact and by using your card or electronic banking system, it achieves the same purpose. “As we speak we have invested a significant amount of money in improving our infrastructure. We have released more than 30 000 Point of Sale machines, which is significant from the 9 000 we had by mid last year.”

He said plastic money transactions at established retailers have gone up to between 60 to 70 percent.

Dr Mangudya said the RBZ is aware of some retailers who are painting a bad picture on the country’s POS infrastructure.

“Our electronic banking infrastructure is intact but just like any other electronic gadget, sometimes the system breaks down. It’s not more about the card but service providers might have problems, it’s normal just like any other system.

“Perfection is very difficult to attain but when the system is working 90 to 95 percent, I think it will be very good.”

“The banks are working very hard to improve, this is work in progress.”

Dr Mangudya said the RBZ is working with other Government departments to promote the usage of plastic money and mobile banking.

Since early last year, Zimbabwe has been facing critical shortages of the US dollar owing to a number of factors that include high imports versus low imports, low foreign direct investment and the fact that the country is being used as a fishing pond for the green back.

Mugabe At Africa-France Summit

At least 60 delegations and 35 heads of state including the President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe attended the official opening of the 27th Africa-France Summit which was officially opened with calls for the African continent to be vigilant in protecting its citizens against the threat of terrorism without waiting for outside interventions.

President Mugabe joined other 34 heads of state from the continent at the Bamako International Conference Centre (BICC) in Bamako Mali for the two day summit which was officially opened today (Saturday).

French president Francois Hollande who co-chaired the official opening session with his Malian counterpart president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said African forces must combat terrorism without being dependent on outside interventions and France is available to provide support.

The host president Ibrahim Keita acknowledged that the peace agreement signed with the Touareg rebels has not yet been fully implemented but he thanked Africa and France for their efforts to end terrorism in the Sahel region.

He also paid tribute to the leaders for attending the summit saying their participation is crucial.

African Union chairperson Mr Idriss Deby who is also the president of Chad said the new year is full of promise and hope and the theme for the summit ‘Partnership, Peace and Emergence’ and the topics that the leaders will discuss are a reflection of the relationship between France and Africa

After the official opening the heads of state went into a closed door session where they are expected to come up with the Bamako declaration.

Meanwhile, France has committed to release at least four billion euros per annum to Africa to honour the agreement signed at the Paris 2013 Summit where the European Union country committed US$20 billion towards development projects in Africa.

This was revealed by Mumbengegwi who attended the foreign affairs ministerial meeting which was held as a precursor to the 27th Africa-France Summit.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the continent and officials from the French government attended a preparatory meeting where they came up with a draft resolution to be adopted by the heads of state at the end of the summit.

Mumbengegwi said two pertinent issues came under the spotlight, that is peace and security and partnership and development between Africa and France

France has also pledged to support French companies that wish to invest in Africa under a social development assistance fund.

Since the 2012 crisis in Mali, the list of French military interventions in the Sahel region has grown steadily and the foreign affairs ministers meeting also looked at issues to do with peace and security says Cde Mumbengegwi. Â

There is generally peace in Bamako but security has been beefed up with some 10 000 security personnel on hand to protect the 3 000 delegates and heads of state who are attending the summit. – State Media
