Mliswa Exposes Zanu PF Rigging Tactics

Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent) has urged opposition political parties to deploy polling agents at all polling stations and ensure they are well-paid to prevent rigging in the 2023 elections.

Speaking during a Zimbabwe Elections Support Network-organised panel discussion on election results management, Mliswa said opposition parties have no one to blame if they fail to safeguard their vote. He said:

When you have manual counting happening and you don’t have someone competent enough, who do you blame?.

Most of the political parties, even (MDC Alliance leader Nelson) Chamisa, did not have polling agents at most of the polling stations in 2018.

As a presidential candidate, whatever happens, you cannot blame the system.

The results are posted outside the polling station, which you see and the results go to the ward centre, then to the district centre, provincial centre up to the national centre.

There is nowhere the results can change if they have been posted outside and you have agreed with them. Your duty is to make sure the figures tally.

Chamisa narrowly lost to ZANU PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa in the 2018 presidential poll. He refused to accept the results, alleging rigging, but his petition was dismissed by the Constitutional Court.- NewsDay

Women Sexually Abused In ZUPCO Queues

Student activists from the University of Zimbabwe have implored Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) authorities to avail more buses to reduce pressure when people board buses and kombis as this has resulted in rampant sexual abuse of women in queues.

Acknowledge Mawere, spokesperson for Observe Our Rights Group, told B-Metro that they had encountered a lot of women and girls who had been abused at ZUPCO buses pick-up points.

Said Mawere:

From the interviews and researches we have done so far, women and girls are telling us that since there is usually a lot of pressure and a lot of people trying to get into the buses at times some men touch their private parts and other sensitive parts of their bodies.

There is also an issue of conductors, drivers and monitors demanding to date young school girls to secure them a seat.

Mawere urged ZUPCO officials to create a women-friendly environment in the ZUPCO ranks and terminuses.- B- Metro

PICTURE: Chinese Employer Strangles Black Worker

The incident captured on camera

A CHINESE employer, He Chisheng Mike of Yakuts Investment in Matopo, Matabeleland South province, is accused of strangling his employee before dismissing him from work.
Some of the workers told Southern Eye that they were terrified by the incident. They said Mike ran amok vandalising property before strangling Charles Muswaka. Muswaka said he reported the matter to police.

“We were just sitting in our rooms and Mike came from nowhere and vandalised the door before approaching and strangling me. “I fled from the premises and went to report at Matobo Police Station,” he said.

“Upon returning to the company, I was fired.” National Union of Mines, Quarrying, Iron and Steel workers of Zimbabwe (NUMQISWZ) legal and education training officer Shadreck Pelewelo said employee rights should be respected.

“The worker reported to the police but nothing has been done. This confirms that our workers are not protected. Mike has been boasting saying ‘go wherever you want and report these issues’,” said Pelewelo.

“These people (Chinese) are abusing workers. This is not the first case, there are so many cases and nothing is being done. The immigration office had promised to deport him (Mike) but we are surprised he is still here.”

Contacted for comment, Mike said: “If you want to publish the story, come to the company and see what happened.”

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena said: “I will have to verify with Matopo Police Station and will give you a comment afterwards.”

Recently, there were reports that workers were locked up in the mining premises and forced to stay in shacks with no ablution facilities.- Newsday

Mnangagwa’s Secret Girlfriend Says He’s Committed To Fixing Up Gukurahundi Issue

Emmerson Mnangagwa is “committed” to bringing closure to the Gukurahundi issue, his own girlfriend who works in the Justice ministry has said.

This is not the first time Mnangagwa is meeting traditional leaders in Bulawayo over Gukurahundi and a number of issues affecting southern Zimbabwe. He first met chiefs in 2019 and followed up with other engagements with civic society organisations.

Addressing journalists in Bulawayo yesterday, secretary for Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Virginia Mabiza said the engagements were clear testimony of Mnangagwa’s commitment to addressing regional concerns.

“…the President will receive recommendations on how to deal with issues related to Gukurahundi. The national council of chiefs has in the past two weeks been engaged in intensive stakeholder consultations with various groups from Matabeleland,” Mabiza said.

“The meeting is a demonstration of His Excellency’s commitment to find a lasting solution to matters affecting the region and, in particular Gukurahundi.”

Local Government, Justice and Home Affairs ministers July Moyo, Ziyambi Ziyambi and Kazembe Kazembe respectively will attend the meeting, she added.

Despite initiating debate on the Gukurahundi massacres in 2019, there has been little movement towards finding a lasting solution to the sensitive issue.

Mnangagwa was State Security minister at the time of the massacres when government deployed a North Korean-trained force to crack against alleged dissent to the late former President Robert Mugabe’s rule in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces. Over 20 000 people were killed, according to the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace. Ironically, Mnangagwa hails from the Midlands province. Additional Reporting, Newsday

President Chamisa Dismisses Mnangagwa’s Muka Ubike Doro Mantra

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has responded to Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ‘Muka Ubike Doro’ mantra.

According to President Chamisa, in politics no leader will stay in power forever.

President Chamisa also accused Mr Mnangagwa of abusing State institutions to cling to power.

See President Chamisa’s brief statement below:

THE PEOPLE SHALL GOVERN…

In our own traditional wisdom, there is an idiom that says “Ubukhosi ngamazolo” or “Ushe madzoro hunotambidzaniwa” literally meaning that leadership is best that occurs in turns.

The era of “strong men” or “vana HANDIENDE” who abuse state institutions is OVER. No abuse of electoral bodies, police, military and intelligence services shall be accepted or tolerated.

Our liberation struggle was about ‘one man one vote’ and “We the People”…meaning “Power to the People”or “Amandla Ebantwini” or “Masimba Kuvanhu”..We are next.

We are the new leaders! #GodIsInIt #thenewiscoming #JoinTheNew #RegisterToVoteZW

MEMORY MACHAYA: Husband Arrested

Hatirarami Momberume, accused of impregnating the 15-year-old girl who recently died while giving birth at an apostolic sect’s shrine in Marange, has appeared in court charged with murder while the girl’s parents were also arrested in Kwekwe for defeating the course of justice.
Momberume (26), who works at a farm in Kwekwe, is also being charged with being intimate or performing indecent acts with a young person.

Marange alleged rape attacker

Yesterday, police detectives picked the deceased’s father, Edmore Machaya (45) and his wife Ratchel Mabika (36) at Garibold Farm in Kwekwe amid indications they had lied about the girl’s date of birth.

They were taken to court where they were denied bail. Mabika stands accused of misleading the police by submitting her name as Shy Mabika when her real name is Ratchel.

Momberume was not asked to plead to murder and having sexual intercourse with a minor when he appeared before Mutare regional magistrate Mrs Lucy-Anne Mungwari. Mrs Mungwari remanded him in custody to September 3.

Messrs Tirivanhu Mutyasira and Jonathan Chingwinyiso appeared for the State, while Mr Brian Majamanda of Khupe and Chijara Law Chambers represented Momberume. Mr Majamanda told the court that he would apply for bail in due course.

However, bail applications in respect of murder cases are dealt with by the High Court, which has jurisdiction over such third schedule offences.

It is the State’s case that Momberume caused the death of the girl by impregnating her and failing to take her to a proper health institution to receive healthcare services.

“Instead, the accused person took Annah Machaya to Johanne Marange traditional midwives where she delivered and died after some labour complications.

“He thereafter secretly buried her without notifying the authorities of her death,” reads part of the court papers.

To cover up for the offence, it is alleged that there was misrepresentation that the deceased was Memory Machaya aged 22.

On the other count, Momberume is said to have impregnated Annah (15) and stayed with her as his wife. She then fell pregnant and died on July 15 while giving birth to a baby boy at a shrine in Marange, Manicaland.

Annah’s parents were picked up in Kwekwe and taken to court for defeating the course of justice by furnishing investigators with false information.

The couple Edmore Machaya and Ratchel Mbika were remanded in custody to 9 September after their bail request was shot down.

Kwekwe prosecutor Ms Michelle Daraja told the court that the two gave false information to the police following the death of their child Anna Machaya on 15 July 2021.

Police from Homicide section in Harare were tasked to investigate circumstances surrounding the death of the girl, the court heard

It is the State’s case that on 9 August 2021 the two, who are biological parents to the deceased, were approached by detectives investigating the death.

The couple allegedly misrepresented to the police that the girl who had died was Memory Machaya born on January 2, 1999.

They allegedly furnished the police with a national registration certificate of the said Memory Machaya which they knew belonged to another person who is alive. Police investigations later established that the deceased was in fact, Annah Machaya born in July 2006. –Herald

You Can’t Stop Change, Biti Tells Jamwanda

Tinashe Sambiri| MDC Alliance vice president Hon Tendai Biti has said in a normal country, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba would have been arrested and charged with treason.

Charamba, who calls himself Jamwanda on Twitter, claimed men in overalls would not allow MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa to rule…

Hon Biti described Jamwanda’s remarks as treasonous:

“The remarks of the regime’s spokesman Mr George Charamba are not only false but treasonous and designed to create public disorder & despondency . In a normal country George Charamba would be charged with treason and incitement of public violence. The truth however is that George Charamba is not a spokesperson for the military.

The military are a legitimate constitutional body that will defend the constitution & people of Zimbabwe. The attempt to politicize same & to suck same into internal party politics &ZANU factions is deranged…

..Change will occur in Zim. Sooner rather than later.Change is the only constant variable. That change will be part of a new consensus . A new United Vision that will establish a sustainable democratic great Zimbabwe in which all are free to pursue justice, prosperity and happiness.”

MDC Alliance Youth Assembly official Antony Taruvinga said:

“Mnangagwa does not decide, people make their own free decision. His statement of “brewing beer” and Charamba’s is a sign the dictator is quacking in his boots. Panic mode!”

Zanu Pf Ups Game To Reclaim Urban Votes

By A Correspondent- ZANU-PF Provincial chairperson for Harare and Zone 4 District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa has challenged branch leaders in Harare to play the game of numbers in order to win back the capital.

“Zone 4 has a target of 120 000 registered voters and this is only possible if we the leaders go on the ground and recruit more members,” said Masimirembwa.

Masimirembwa said this yesterday during a debrief with party branch leaders, following the closing of submissions of registered cells in preparation for branch level restructuring, at ZANU-PF Zone 4 DCC Headquarters.

“Over the years we have been using old cell registers recycling them whenever we needed to account for our membership, that is going to change now. In the new dispensation we are not going to rely on old registers with ghost members that leaders make up in the comfort of their homes.

Lets mobilize real numbers to the Party and secure our place as the ruling party in the nation’s capital again. At the end of the restructuring we will have 19 000 branch leaders in the district.

To be a leader you must be willing to serve, and sacrifice,” said Masimirembwa.

He mentioned that the youth are coming in their numbers and that they should not be afraid to take up leadership positions in their league.

“There is a reason why there is a well organised hierarchy in Zanu-PF. The numbers that leadership commands constitutes an overwhelming electorate is if we each bring the recommended numbers at cell level,” Masimirembwa added

He said Branch Restructuring will be complete by Friday this week.

Come 2023 We Will Defeat Mnangagwa- Sikhala

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has scoffed at the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa’s empty bravado.

Addressing Zanu PF supporters in Mutare on Thursday, a visibly jittery Mnangagwa declared that those dreaming of an opposition victory in Zimbabwe should wake up and brew beer as that would not happen.

However, Hon Sikhala dismissed Mnangagwa’s swaggering…

“I wonder whether the people around Emmerson Mnangagwa tell him the truth or they simply lie to him.

The man is unelectable, unlovable, non charismatic, raw & lacks the touch of a statesman.

Dear Zimbabweans, we will defeat him in 2023 and install Chamisa as President of Zimbabwe,” Hon Sikhala wrote on Twitter.

Brand Mnangagwa Unsellable

Mnangagwa’s Fall Will Be Thunderous!

20-08-2021

Statements by Emmerson Mnangagwa that he is indispensable as exhibited by his rants in Mutare yesterday clearly shows that he is detached from reality.

Clearly the old man is living in dreamland. Either the people around him are misinforming him or he is just another miserable dictator who does not take advice.

He seems not to be aware that his name is soiled and unsellable to the public.

Mnangagwa’s name stinks to the public and a mere mention of his name in public places like bus terminus and shopping centres is usually greeted by a serious disapproval from citizens.

He is just unlikable, unelectable and way past his sell-by political date.

On the other hand, a mere mention of Nelson Chamisa’s name charms the nation. His brand is abundantly acceptable to the public.

Like all miserable dictators, Mnangagwa is clouded in a false sense of invincibility.

He is heading towards a crushing defeat at the hands of MDC Alliance led by President Nelson Chamisa.

Meanwhile, we implore all young people to go out in their numbers to register to vote. We are the change that we seek!

Mushikashika Driver Commits Suicide At Police Station

A pirate taxi (mushikashika) driver allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Zvishavane Central Police Station after police refused to return his vehicle which they had impounded for operating in contravention of COVID-19 restrictions.

Tapiwa Manyimo (38) of Maglas suburb in the asbestos mining town was pronounced dead on arrival at Zvishavane District Hospital where he had been rushed for medical attention.

Police found a suicide note in one of his pockets which indicated that he was having sleepless nights at home as his wife was harassing him over the impounded vehicle which was his only source of income.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident but said he had no full details at hand. He said:

I can confirm that there is a sudden death matter involving a Zvishavane man who committed suicide and left behind a suicide note.

A source close to the matter said:

He [Manyimo] walked to the police station and pleaded with the police officers to have his pirate taxi released but the police would not budge.

The police were insisting that all impounded vehicles will be taken to the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) for inspection first before they are released to their owners.

Marimo then allegedly took some pesticides from his pocket before consuming some at Zvishavane Central police station before collapsing.- Chronicle

Mliswa Tips Chamisa How To Defeat Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent- Norton legislator Temba Mliswa said MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa would beat Zanu PF in the 2023 elections if he deploys polling agents at every polling station.

Speaking during a Zimbabwe Elections Support Network-organised panel discussion on election results management, Mliswa said opposition parties often left most polling stations unmanned, increasing rigging chances.

Chamisa Allies Fight For Town House

By A Correspondent- The Harare City Council has suspended a full council meeting after two MDC-Alliance councillors failed to understand each other over who to chair the meeting.

Full council meetings are held every Thursday and are chaired by the Mayor.

Mayor Jacob Mafume, who was on suspension and returned to work Monday and was supposed to chair the meeting, but acting Mayor Stewart Musarurwa Mutizwa refused to leave the office for him.

The refusal by Mutizwa to recognise Mafume resulted in the postponement the full council meeting

Harare City Council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme confirmed the postponement of the full council meeting citing other reasons.

” The meeting was postponed to allow for more time for councillors to study and comprehend the full council minutes,” said Chideme.

However, a councillor who spoke to The Herald on condition of anonymity said the meeting had been aborted due to the mayoral chaos.

“The meeting has been rescheduled for next week pending the finalisation of the mayoral issue as the councillors are divided on who will chair the meeting. Some are adamant that Mutizwa should chair while others prefer Mafume. It’s a catch 22 situation. We just hope by next week, there will be a clear position.

Mafume was suspended last year as a mayor and a councillor by Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo, pending his criminal charges trial outcome.

Acting Mayor Mutizwa was appointed following the arrest, recall and suspension of successive mayors, including Herbert Gomba and his deputy Enock Mupamawonde.

Their successors, Mafume and his deputy Luckson Mukunguma were also arrested and suspended.

Prisoners Hit Hard As Courts Suspend Operations

By A Correspondent- Chief Justice Luke Malaba has directed all courts to postpone further pending criminal and civil matters.

Malaba said the courts would remain closed until next Tuesday in response to the extension of the Level four lockdown by President Mnangagwa to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Courts were set to resume full operations yesterday.

This would mean that inmates on remand will not be attending court hearings.

The filing of new cases, process, documents, pleading and papers was suspended on July 29 in line with the Covid-19 regulations.

President Mnangagwa last Monday extended level four of the lockdown by another two weeks.

In a statement issued on court operations yesterday, CJ Malaba said all cases that had been set down from today to August 24 will be rolled over to September.

“All court operations previously suspended from July 29 up to August 19 are further suspended to August 24 2021 on the same conditions stated in Practice Direction 7 of 2021.

“Any act required by the rules to have been done during the period of the lockdown within a specified period of time shall be done within the specified time limited calculated from August 24 2021.

“This practice direction takes effect from August 20 and shall remain in effect until the expiry of the extended lockdown period,” he said.

According to the latest Covid-19 update from the Ministry of Health and Child Care: “As at August 18 2021, Zimbabwe had 121 498 confirmed cases, including 101 837 recoveries and 4 181 deaths. To date, a total of 2 193 346 people has been vaccinated against Covid-19.”

Police Haunt Foreign Investor

By A Correspondent- A crackdown on illegal gold mining by the Zimbabwe Republic Police has forced Zim Goldfields, a joint venture between Zimbabwe and Belarus, to end its operations in Penhalonga, in Mutare district, Manicaland Province.

The joint venture was signed in 2018 by the Mines and Mining Development Minister, Winston Chitando and Belarus Chief of Presidential Affairs, Victor Sheiman.

Goldfields had been granted the right to mine gold in the province.

But the recent government ban on riverbed mining and the threat of illegal gold miners, forced the company to stop operations.

The joint venture has been subject to controversy as many questioned government policies with regard to riverbed mining.

“After some time, illegal operations were getting out of hand, so our company has written numerous reports to the local and district offices of police, EMA, Ministry of Mines. Police had to come on the ground and hold operations against illegal mining, explaining to the local community about mining rights and their importance. The problem was not solved as the illegal miners were benefiting more,” Zim Goldfield’s representative Dmitri Krasilnikov told Business Times.

“[Also], due to the ban on riverbed mining, our operations had to stop and currently, we do not hold any operations in that area, as our company strictly follows all government regulations.”

Krasilnikov hoped the ban “will soon be lifted and we will be able to hold proper operations”.

Zim Goldfields was planning to set up a test plant which has now been shelved. BusinessTimes

Bayern Munich Peg Prohibitive Transfer Fee For Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski has hinted at exiting Bayern Munich after revealing that he told the club he wants a new challenge elsewhere.

Lewandowski, who turns 33 on Saturday, wants to secure a move to another top European club before the age of 35.

According to Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour, Lewandowski has already informed the club that he would want to leave.

“Robert Lewandowski, one of the best in the world, the FIFA and UEFA Player of the Year,” Gilmour said on Sky Sports News.

“What we are being told is Robert Lewandowski wants a new challenge away from Bayern Munich.

“Let me just bring you some context on this, he turns 33 on Saturday, he has two years remaining of his Bayern Munich contract.

“It runs until June 2023, when he will be approaching his 35th birthday.

“What he feels, we are being told, is that when he gets to that stage it maybe difficult to find that new big European club.

“That’s the reasons for wanting this challenge but the problem is that, Bayern Munich have put a valuation of around £110m on him.

“It makes it very difficult for a potential buying club to come in and pay that kind of money.”

However, the German champions’ £100m ($137m) plus valuation may price him out of the move. His current contract will keep him at the club until the end of his contract in 2023.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

About Malaria And Vector-borne Diseases

New guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) sets essential standards to inform future research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, particularly in addressing issues relating to ethics, safety, affordability and effectiveness.

Malaria and other vector-borne diseases, including dengue and Zika, affect millions globally. More than 400 000 people a year die from malaria alone. If proven safe, effective and affordable, genetically modified vector mosquitoes could be a valuable new tool to fight these diseases and eliminate their enormous health, social and economic burden.

The guidance framework for testing genetically modified mosquitoes, developed in partnership with TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, and the GeneConvene Global Collaborative, an initiative of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, describes best practices to ensure that the study and evaluation of genetically modified mosquitoes as public health tools is safe, ethical and rigorous.

Current strategies for limiting transmission of mosquito-borne diseases are only partially effective. New, complementary approaches are needed to close the gaps in current vector control interventions, such as effective control of outdoor biting, and to provide alternatives to manage the increasing threat of insecticide resistance. Research suggests genetically modified mosquitoes could be a powerful and cost-effective tool to supplement existing interventions.

“We urgently need innovative approaches to help control mosquito-borne diseases, which have a devastating impact around the world,” said Dr John Reeder, TDR Director. “Genetically modified mosquitoes is one such approach, but we want to be sure it’s fully and responsibly evaluated, as outlined in a recent WHO position statement.”

“Like any new public health intervention, genetically modified mosquitoes raise new questions for researchers, affected communities and other stakeholders,” said Dr Michael Santos, Director of the GeneConvene Global Collaborative.

“The updated guidance framework aims to answer these questions and help ensure that testing of genetically modified mosquitoes is as rigorous as it is for other public health products – and that it generates quality results to guide decisions about if and how these technologies are used.”

“Over the last 2 decades, we have achieved remarkable results with existing malaria control tools, averting more than 7 million deaths and 1.5 billion cases of the disease,” said Dr Pedro
Alonso, Director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme.

“However, progress towards key targets of our global malaria strategy remains off course. Genetically modified mosquitoes are one of a number of promising new tools that could help speed the pace of progress against malaria and other vector-borne diseases.”

“The incidence of dengue continues to increase and affect people in over 129 countries, so we need more sustainable vector control tools to stem the tide of dengue and other arboviral diseases and a few novel tools offer the potential to control these diseases,” said Dr Mwele Malecela, Director of the WHO Department for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

“We welcome this new guidance from WHO which will help countries suffering from mosquito-borne diseases to evaluate a promising new intervention,” said Professor Aggrey Ambali, Senior Advisor at the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD), the development agency of the African Union.

The new guidance addresses specific questions and challenges associated with research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, including standards for decision-making about how and when testing should proceed.

By establishing a common set of expectations that is specific to genetically modified mosquitoes, the new resource will enable more informed and rigorous evaluation by researchers, developers, those responsible for regulatory and policy decisions and the people to whom these stakeholders are accountable.

The guidance builds on an earlier document published by TDR and FNIH in 2014, incorporating the latest scientific advancements related to genetic modification of mosquitoes, as well as other key updates and learnings related to safety and ethics, including:

methods for understanding the implications of genetically modified mosquitoes for human health, animal health and the environment;
increased understanding of the most effective strategies for risk assessment and stakeholder engagement;
clearer criteria for projects to proceed from one testing phase to the next, incorporating descriptions of the steps needed to safely and responsibly take genetically modified mosquito technologies – including those incorporating gene drive – into the field; and
a concrete set of safety and efficacy considerations that should be evaluated at each phase of testing, to inform decisions about further testing and implementation…

Emmerson Mnangagwa Basking In False Sense Of Invincibility

“Prophet” Orders Gumbura Widows Not To Date Men Before Seeing Him

Morgan Zvemangororo

The late pastor Robert Martin Gumbura, who died in prison early this month, might not rest in peace as Masvingo controversial preacher Isaac Makomichi says he is begging for one on one sessions with his five most beautiful widows.

The preacher also claimed those widows must not date men before seeing him.

Makomichi is under the spotlight as people are accusing him of using secret powers to perform miracles.

Last week Makomichi reportedly wrote a letter to government applying for permission to move Marimba mountain.

“The late man of God died in prison, he was in love with his wives and it’s possible that he might ruin their love life. They must come to me for prayers and I will give them the anointed love potion so that they can enjoy their love life again.

I’m seeing that his spirit didn’t rest well as he is still thinking about his wives, especially the beautiful ones.

Those five must come to me, all of them will be married again.

I will give them the love potion for free.

If anyone knows Gumbura’s widows please give them my number +263777469342. The whole world will see the power of God through those widows,” claimed Makomichi.

According to sources, Makomichi’s love charm was the secret behind the late Moana’s fame.

Emmerson Mnangagwa Unelectable- Wiwa

President Chamisa Responds To Mnangagwa’s ‘Muka Ubike Doro’ Mantra

Arrest Jamwanda For Uttering Treasonous Remarks- Biti

Court Shelves Resumption Of “Full Operations”

court gavel

By A Correspondent- Chief Justice Luke Malaba has directed all courts to further postpone pending criminal and civil matters to next Tuesday in response to the extension of the Level four lockdown by President Mnangagwa to combat the spread of Covid-19. Courts were set to resume full operations yesterday.

“All court operations previously suspended from the 29th of July up to the 19th of August are further suspended to the 24th of August 2021 on the same conditions stated in Practice Direction 7 of 2021.

“Any act required by the rules to have been done during the period of the lockdown within a specified period of time shall be done within the specified time limited calculated from the 24th of August 2021. “This practice direction takes effect from the 20th of August and shall remain in effect until the expiry of the extended lockdown period,” he said.

According to the latest Covid-19 update from the Ministry of Health and Child Care: “As at 18 August 2021, Zimbabwe had 121 498 confirmed cases, including 101 837 recoveries and 4 181 deaths. To date, a total of 2 193 346 people has been vaccinated against Covid-19.”

Government, which is pushing hard to attain herd immunity of 10 million people, has widened its mass vaccination programme to include the private sector. It has also deployed mobile teams in remote areas to ensure that all people have access to vaccines.

Stepmom Nabbed For Beating Up Teen Over Firewood Money

By A Correspondent- A woman from Pumula South suburb has been arrested for flogging her step-daughter with a stick after she accused her of converting money from the sale of firewood to her personal use.

What stoked the fire is that when Nomcebo Sibanda (29) got home at around 5pm this week on Wednesday she found her 15-year-old step-daughter lighting a fire with the firewood that she sells at home.

After that she unleashed a verbal attack on her while accusing her of being untrustworthy and disrespectful.

She allegedly grabbed the minor and dragged her into her bedroom before locking the door.

“She took a stick and flogged her all over the body. She accused her of converting the money from the sale of firewood to her personal use. And she also accused the minor of disrespecting her,” she said.

The minor suffered bruises on the body and a swollen thigh.

The minor reported the matter at Pumula Police Station leading to the arrest of her stepmother.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.

She bemoaned the rising cases of domestic violence.

“It is worrying to note that there is a notable rise in domestic violence cases. We would like to urge community members to live in harmony with each other and seek advice from third parties like pastors or police’s Victim Friendly Unit whenever they are faced with disputes than to take the law into their hands,” she said.

Two Soldiers Nabbed For Robbery

By A Correspondent- Two soldiers have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and robbing two brothers of their hard-earned cash after they accused them of violating Covid-19 regulations.

The two soldiers are Mbonisi Ncube (20) and Peace Maphosa (21) and they are stationed at 2.1 Reserve Force Battalion, Mt Darwin.

A source close to investigations said while Zenzo Masina (53) was walking to Lobengula West suburb from Njube suburb at around 7pm last week on Sunday after he had parted ways with his younger brother Brighton (39) he met the duo of Maphosa and Ncube.

They accused him of violating Covid-19 regulations and being out and about during curfew hours.

They grabbed him by his hand before they hit him with open hands while they demanded cash. Masina gave them US$20 and $80 and they let him free.

After about 10 minutes they bumped into Brighton while he was returning to his place and they accused him of being outside during curfew time. While he was trying to explain, they grabbed him by his throat and took turns to slap him with open hands on the face and head, said the source.

They demanded money, but he could not give them anything because he had nothing on him.

Their luck ran out when neighbourhood watch committee members arrived and apprehended them.

They took them to Njube Police Station leading to their arrest.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

He succumbed to Covid19 related ailments at Materday Hospital in Bulawayo at 5pm yesterday. He was admitted at the hospital for some time.

His son Rory Nesbitt confirmed the death to a local publication.By A Correspondent- D

Nesbitt ran a number of thriving businesses including a chain of hotels among them N1 in Bulawayo. Nesbitt who once owned Nesbitt Arms Hotel in Chiredzi, the first and best hospitality center in the Lowveld then, saw his fortunes decline after the land reform programme.

Nesbitt Arms was sold to Pote Holdings early this year. Nesbitt owned many buildings in Chiredzi and Bulawayo and is said to have bought a hotel in Harare recently.

“My father has passed on. He suffered lung failure and he also tested positive to Covid19 a few weeks ago,” said Rory.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

Man Thrown Behind Bars For Marrying Minor (14)

By A Correspondent- A Chipinge man has been sentenced to 36 months in jail for having sexual intercourse with a minor as defined in Section 70 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

Msindo Makuyana (48), of New Year’s Gift, had been living with a 14-year-old juvenile (name withheld because of her age) as husband and wife since 8 August when the two met at Samhutsa Business Centre.

Makuyana appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Elizabeth Hanzi on Tuesday, who convicted him on his own guilty plea and sentenced him to 36 months in jail.

Six months were suspended on condition that he will not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

Asked why he committed the offence, Makuyana said he was misled by the girl’s physical appearance. He said:

I was not aware of the girl’s age. I thought she was an adult since she has a big body. I am begging for lenience because I am in good books with my wife (the minor). I also did not force her to be my wife.

Prosecutor Chipo Matanga told the court that Makuyana’s marriage to the minor came to light after the two visited the complainant’s aunt, Susan Sigauke where she (the complainant) intended to introduce Makuyana as her husband.

Sigauke told Makuyana that he cannot marry the complainant because of her age.

She (Sigauke) made a police report on Monday leading to Makuyana’s arrest.

The complainant was taken to Chipinge District Hospital for medical examination.

“No Zambia Repeat In Zim”: ED

By A Correspondent- Addressing government officials and businesspeople at the official opening of an oxygen production plant in Mutare, Mnangagwa urged opposition leaders entertaining such a dream to “wake up from their slumber”.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday scoffed at suggestions that the winds of change sweeping across southern Africa, which led to the recent electoral defeat of Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu by the opposition’s Hakainde Hichilema would land in Zimbabwe and end his rule come 2023 plebiscite.

“Let me tell you even before you ask me, if anyone dreams of what happened in Zambia happening in Zimbabwe, come back to your senses and brew some beer,” Mnangagwa told a cheering crowd.

His comments came a few days after opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa declared that he had “a sweet smell of victory in his nostrils” that he would win the 2023 presidential election, adding that Lungu’s defeat in Zambia signalled the demise of liberation movements in Africa.

Zanu-PF, in power since independence in 1980, has won all past elections except in 2008 when its presidential candidate late former President Robert Mugabe lost the first round to late opposition MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai amid allegations of vote fraud.

In the July 30, 2018 polls, Mnangagwa narrowly won against Chamisa, although the youthful opposition leader still insists he was denied victory by ruling Zanu-PF in connivance with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the military and Constitutional Court.

Mnangagwa also revealed that he personally contacted Lungu and persuaded him to concede defeat at a time when the outgoing Zambian leader was adamant that the polls were not free and fair.

His remarks that there is no Zambia repeat in Zimbabwe were interpreted by opposition leaders as confirmation that Zanu-PF would use all means at its disposal to retain power.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said there was no doubt that recent developments in Zambia had unsettled Mnangagwa.

“The illegitimate, oppressive, anti-people regime in Harare is clearly in panic mode following the victory for democracy in Zambia,” Mahere quipped.

“They know that defeat is coming for them in 2023. The good news for us is that power does not reside in Mr Mnangagwa, Mr (George) Charamba (presidential spokesman) or Mr (Simon) Khaya-Moyo (Zanu-PF spokersperson) — all of whom have been at pains to minimise the impact of the victory in the region.”

Mahere added: “Power belongs to the people who will vote in their millions in 2023. We have set a target of six million votes to secure a people’s victory. Citizens are tired of dictatorship, poverty and corruption. We are confident that an overwhelming victory will be upon us as Zimbabweans form a broad alliance to win our nation for change. What happened in Zambia is exactly what will happen in Zimbabwe.”

But MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba said his party was focused on its target to reach the 66% mark in the 2023 elections.

“Currently, we are focused on the induction of our shadow Cabinet, which must get to work as soon as possible so that they offer alternative policies in Parliament as we are working on the ground to garner 66% of the valid vote cast for the presidency in 2023,” Damba said.

Damba added: “Coming back to your question directly, how do you stop anybody from expressing their wish and freedom of speech?”

Mnangagwa was accompanied by senior government officials including Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri and Manicaland provincial affairs minister Nokhutula Matsikenyeri, Zanu-PF provincial chairman Mike Madiro.

Yesterday, the commuting public which uses Zupco was left stranded as buses were reserved for Zanu-PF supporters.

MDC Alliance Manicaland spokesperson David Panganai said Zanu-PF only used COVID-19 as an excuse to avoid by-elections white it is gathering people.

“I am very concerned because Zanu-PF bussed people using State resources. You see (it) is the same party that is hiding from by-elections. Come 2023, we are going to shock the party,” he said.

On the oxygen plant, Mnangagwa said the plant would go a long way in assisting COVID-19 patients.

“We were buying oxygen outside the country and it was very expensive and then COVID-19 came, and we sat down because we were aware that COVID-19 patients need oxygen,” he said.

“We gave our boys and girls some resources and after 18 months, they managed to come up with a plant to produce oxygen and now we are producing oxygen. Our boys and girls are very talented. What is needed is to give them the chance and resources so that they can do their research.”

Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing scores of Zanu-PF supporters at Mutare Aerodrome, oblivious of the level 4 COVID-19 regulations which ban huge gatherings.

“Zanu Will Resort To Same 2008 Election Tactics”

“Thinking that the military are just wearing overalls (military gear) for Chamisa to just rule, fear God” George Charamba tweeted.

By Patrick Guramatunhu- MDC had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms including reforms of the military, Police, CIO and Prison Services; sadly, the golden opportunity was wasted because not even one reform was ever implemented in five years. Zanu PF was gloriously happy that no reforms ever saw the light of day and have since been boasting about their dictatorial powers.

Can Zimbabwe ever have free, fair and credible elections without first implementing the democratic reforms designed to cut the umbilical cord tying Zanu PF to the Army, Police, etc.? The answer has to be an emphatic NO!

SADC leaders advised Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the democratic reforms. The MDC leaders did not listen and have participated in Zimbabwe’s flawed elections, so flawed the MDC never had any real chance of winning the majority for them to form the new government. MDC leaders participated to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and a share of the spoils of power in the form of a few gravy train seats, as their reward.

When Emmerson Mnangagwa seized power from Mugabe in 2017 he was cocksure he was going to kick-start the Zimbabwe economic. He was cocksure investors would flood into the country is answer to his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” clarion call! No investors came because they are shrewd lot who know that the musical chair challenges following the November 2017 military could had changed nothing in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe was a Banana Republic ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs before the coup; the same thugs were in power after the coup. Nothing had changed!

Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation means Zanu PF will have to resort to the same wanton violence as that seen in 2008 to force people to vote for the party. Charamba’s tweet is a shot across the bow!

The truth with 49% of the population now living in abject poverty, the nation’s education and health care services all but totally collapsed the nation is desperate for change. Desperate people will do desperate things, the threat of the country descend into chaos and civil protests in now a matter of time.

The nation is now deeply regretting the wasted opportunities to implement the democratic reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship. This is not the time for feeling sorry for ourselves and cry over spilt milk. However, this is the right time to finally acknowledge that MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent and, most important of all, to acknowledge they are the last people the nation must look up to, to get out of this mess.

The way forward, the sure way to manage both the Zanu PF threat of violence and the threat of civil violence through street protests, is to demand the implementation of the democratic reforms designed to end Zanu PF’s draconian powers.

The 2023 elections must be postponed until the reforms are implemented. Both Zanu PF and MDC would want the 2023 elections to go ahead with no reforms in place; this is just foolish designed to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy with nothing of substance to be gained as the 2013 and 2018 elections have shown.

An interim administration must be appointment to implement the democratic reforms. The very fact that MDC and Zanu PF failed to implement any reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU does not mean the reforms are not important; they are important. Indeed, we are up to our eyes in this mess precisely because it was folly to have kicked the reforms down the road all these years.

Just because MDC and Zanu PF failed to implement even one reform does not mean there are no men and women who can do this; there are plenty who can!

Time is of the essence; we must appoint the interim administration a.s.a.p. or the events on the ground will overwhelm us all!

Gweru Journalist Hauled To Court By Way Of Summons

By A Correspondent- A Gweru-based journalist who was at the Gweru Magistrates Court on Thursday to answer charges of disorderly conduct will now appear in court by way of summons.

The Mirror Midlands bureau chief and Assistant Editor, Elizabeth Mashiri was arrested on Tuesday by police despite producing her Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) press card.

The prosecutor on duty said that because of the prevailing COVID-19 situation and the partial closure of courts, her case will be heard by way of summons.

Mashiri was arrested for allegedly taking pictures and videos of police in running battles with vendors. The vendors accused police officers of demanding bribes daily.

The vendors openly told the cops that they were tired of paying bribes and those arrested exchanged harsh words with the police officers right into the charge office.

At the police station, the Member in Charge Crime Assistant Inspector Chinounye wanted Mashiri to either pay a fine or spent the night in a filthy cell.

Mashiri was adamant that she would not pay the fine because she was at the scene of the skirmishes as a registered and accredited journalist.

She also told Constable Locadia Mutundwa who arrested her that she had a constitutional right as a journalist to cover the story of the vendors and the alleged bribe-taking cops.

Mashiri was released late in the afternoon after her lawyer intervened and told the Member in Charge Crime that the case was too trivial for someone to be detained overnight.

She is being represented by Reginald Chidawanyika of Chetere Chidawanyika and Partners.

Fresh Details Emerge On The Late Memory Machaya Who Died While Giving Birth

By A Correspondent- Police yesterday said they had arrested Hatirarami Momberume, also known as Evans Momberume (26), following the alleged death of a 14-year-old minor on July 15 while giving birth at the Johane Marange Apostolic sect shrine in Mafararikwa, Manicaland.

Momberume is facing charges of rape or alternatively contravening section 70 of the code.

The police also said the minor’s parents were facing arrest for faking identity documents of their deceased daughter in a bid to conceal the crime.

The minor died after developing complications while giving birth at the shrine and the matter was concealed until early this month.

According to police investigations, the deceased’s first name was Anna Machaya (15) although, she had been previously identified as Memory Machaya.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said that the deceased’s first name was Anna and not Memory as indicated in documents submitted by her parents.

Nyathi said girl’s parents sought to defeat the course of justice by submitting the birth certificate of deceased’s 22-year-old cousin, Memory in a vain attempt to protect the minor’s”rapist”husband Momberume.

Momberume was supposed to appear at Mutare Magistrates Court yesterday, but the matter was postponed to today.

Nyathi said police were pressing criminal charges against the deceased’s mother, Shy Mabika (36) and father Edmore Machaya (45) for obstructing the course of justice.

“Memory Machaya (22) is alive and is actually married to a man called Lameck Makonye alias Sigodhla (54) in Mhondoro. We want to tell Zimbabweans that the person who died is not Memory Machaya. The person who died is Anna Machaya. Memory is alive,” Nyathi said.

“It is clear they were hiding information and it is clear that they also produced fake documents in a bid to hide the death of Anna Machaya. Information that was being presented was now indicating as if Anna was born in 1999, meaning to say that the person by now is an adult, yet in actual fact, she was born in 2006 meaning to say by now she is 15 years old and was married off when she was a minor.

“The parents lied to the police that Anna Machaya was born on January 2, 1999. The mother went on to give police investigators a national identity card in a bid to prove that she was born on January 2, 1999.

This was false. Investigations have revealed that the identity card produced to the police belonged to a namesake of the late minor, who is a daughter to Ernest Machaya. This is an uncle to the late Anna Machaya.

It is through school records in Mhondoro that the police proved that the late Anna Machaya was born on July 5, 2006 to Edmore Machaya and Shy Mabika. The police have obtained the correct birth certificate copies in respect of Memory Machaya (22) and the late Anna Machaya (15). These are two different people.”

Nyathi appealed for more information on Johane Marange sect members marrying off minor children.

Machaya’s death triggered a global outcry from child rights defenders with the United Nations and several other non-governmental organisations calling on government to end child marriages. Yesterday, different girls from Johane Marange and Johane Masowe Apostolic sects pleaded with stakeholders during a virtual discussion by the Female Students Network to intervene and end early child marriages.

Apostolic sect member Moline Mukomawasha, a University of Zimbabwe student, opened up, saying she had witnessed several girls in the sect being married off.

“Sexual exploitation and the practice of cultural processes happen at apostolic sects, especially the Johane Marange sect,” Mukomawasha said.

“There is also the issue of the virginity tests which is done using unhygienic methods where fingers are inserted into a girl’s reproductive parts. Those that have lost their virginity are forced into marriage with the people that would have impregnated them.”

She said some young girls fell prey to older men during prayer sessions held at the shrines.

Baby’s Corpse Devoured By A Dog

By A Correspondent- The body of a newly born baby was seen being eaten by a dog in Shamva, Mashonaland Central province last week.

Following a tip off the police managed to apprehend the mother Happiness Kandunduma (25) who wrapped the child with a sack and dumped her at a dump site in Shamva.

Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.

“I can confirm the arrest of Kandunduma who gave birth to a baby girl alone in the bush and wrapped her in a sack before throwing her away. The baby’s corpse was discovered by Anna Nyaude. She saw a dog feasting on the body and filed a police report. The police investigated the matter and arrested the suspect,” Dhliwayo said.

Police warned people to respect the sanctity of life

“The people must respect the sanctity of life and must understand that a child is a blessing from God not from man.

Whenever they face economic or social problem they should seek counseling.”

Hospitals Shelve Non- Emergency Surgeries Over Acute Blood Shortage

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s major hospitals such as Parirenyatwa Hospital and Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare, Mpilo in Bulawayo and others around the country have shelved non-emergency surgeries due to acute blood shortages as a result of dwindling blood stocks at the blood bank.

In an Interview with HealthTimes, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals spokesperson, Linos Dhire said they had resolved to channel blood and blood products towards emergency or life-threatening cases such as maternal emergencies and the casualty division until the blood stocks situation normalises.

Said Dhire:

Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has not stopped doing surgical operations although the hospital is currently experiencing some challenges with blood availability. Not all surgical operations require blood.

However, the hospital is deferring non-emergency surgical cases which require blood until the blood availability situation improves.

The hospital continues to work closely with the National Blood Service Zimbabwe and rationalise the use of blood products according to national and WHO guidelines.

Non-emergency or elective surgeries are those that one can either plan in advance and do not require emergency attention.

Sally Mugabe Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Christopher Pasi told the publication that they cannot be expected to have blood when the NBSZ does not have it.

He said:

If the NBSZ says they have got shortages, it also applies to the institutions because that’s the source.

There is no way we can say they have blood and we say we don’t have or vice-versa. The issue is about national blood stocks.

NBSZ Communications Officer Ephraim Mubayi said even though there have been improvements in terms of donations and stocks, the majority of the blood clinics were still operating below the requisite 5 days normal supply.

Musorowegomo Mukosi Duped US$1.6k In Botched Mines Deal

By A Correspondent- Former broadcaster Musorowegomo Mukosi who has ventured into farming and mining allegedly lost US$1 600 to fraudsters who had promised to register three blocks of mines in Odzi district, Manicaland in his name.

The issue came out when suspected fraudster Chirawo Tinashe namani (31) on Wednesday appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi to answer to fraud charges. namani was remanded to September 3 on $10 000 bail.

Allegations were that sometime in January 2021, Mukosi wanted to register three blocks of a mine in Odzi district. In mid-May he was introduced to one of the accused, Jonathan Chirawo at his office in Harare.

Chirawo demanded US$300 per block and was paid US$100 deposit. The balance of US$800 was to be paid after issuance of a certificate of registration by the Mines ministry.

On May 28, Chirawo allegedly increased the figure to US$1 500, saying it was for purposes of registration of the three blocks with the Mines ministry.

Chirawo then sent namani to collect the US$1 500 from Mukosi at a city hotel and was handed over the money by the former broadcaster’s driver Tichaona Kasena, who accompanied him to Mines ministry offices in Mutare.

When they got to Mines office, namani instructed the driver to remain outside and when he returned, he claimed that he had paid the money, but did not produce any receipt.

Chirawo called Mukosi and informed him that all payments had been made, adding that he would give him a certificate of registration from the ministry.

The certificate never materialised and Mukosi became suspicious. When he demanded proof of payment, he was given a copy of a receipt numbered 045, which was not a Mines ministry receipt.

He then went to the Mines ministry in Harare where he was told pegging charges were only US$100 per block.

Further investigations by the Mines ministry established that the ministry did not receive payment.

Mukosi was prejudiced of US$1 600 and nothing was recovered.

New Mayor For Kwekwe Following Mwonzora Recall

Douglas Mwonzora

By A Correspondent- The City of Kwekwe has a new mayor and deputy after Councillor Angeline Kasipo and her deputy Melody Chingarande both MDC Alliance were recalled last month by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T.

Ward 2 Councillor Future Titora was elected the new Kwekwe mayor while her Ward 3 counterpart Pikurai Msipha was elected deputy at a special full council meeting held in the council chambers on Thursday.

Chingarande was recalled days after being elected to replace the late Shadreck Tobaiwa who succumbed to cancer.

Cllr Titora garnered six votes to narrowly beat Ward 7 councillor Charles Juta who had four votes in the second round after the first round of voting resulted in a stalemate after each received five votes.

Cllr Msipha also won by the same number of votes and in a similar fashion to beat Joshua Tinago.

In her acceptance speech, newly elected Mayor Titora said she will work hard to develop the city. She said:

I pledge to play the oversight role as expected of us and complement management efforts to develop our city.

I urge all councillors to stop bickering and put differences aside as we work towards achieving vision 2030.

Kwekwe District Development Coordinator Fortune Mpungu who presided over the election of the mayor said service delivery and implementation of the devolution agenda should come first.

Kwekwe City had 14 councillors but only 10 are left after the death of Tobaiwa and the recalling of Kasipo, Chingarande and Ward 12 councillor Washington Moyo.

Of the 10, nine were elected on an MDC Alliance ticket and one was sponsored by the ruling ZANU PF party.

Lawyers Challenge “Command” Vaccination

By A Correspondent- A group of lawyers, going by the moniker Anti-COVID Vaccines, has initiated moves to sue government, churches and employers over compulsory vaccination of employees and congregants.

The lawyers have started circulating a petition to be signed by disgruntled workers and congregants, in support of the legal action.

This followed recent pronouncement that churches would only open to vaccinated congregants.

Recently, the Public Service Commission (PSC) issued a circular barring unvaccinated government workers from physically reporting for work or board PSC buses.

Several private firms and State institutions, including universities, are reportedly implementing a similar policy, forcing employees to get inoculated or risk forced leave.

Some church leaders have been arrested for allowing unvaccinated congregants to attend services in church.

One of the lawyers behind the campaign, Obert Kondongwe yesterday said there was no law in Zimbabwe which made vaccination compulsory despite the health benefits likely to be derived from the exercise.

“It must be noted from the onset that there is no law in Zimbabwe which makes vaccination mandatory. As such, there is no criminal law which penalises church gatherings of unvaccinated congregants. It is trite that each person, having fully considered the implications and effects of vaccination, is expected to make a personal decision on whether or not to get vaccinated and even to make a personal decision regarding the timing of such vaccination,” Kondongwe said.

“The practice of obliging anyone to get vaccinated constitutes an infringement of rights and freedoms contained in the Constitution under sections 51, 52, 56, 58, 60 and 65.”

Kondongwe added: “It is common cause that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land. Section 44 of the Constitution provides that the State and every person, including juristic persons, and every institution and agency of the government at every level must respect, protect, promote, and fulfil the rights and freedoms set out in chapter 4 of the Constitution.”

The lawyers accused employers of invading workers’ privacy contrary to what is enshrined in section 51 of the Constitution by insisting on COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

They added that the vaccines were still experimental and according to section 52(c) of the Constitution, citizens had a right not to be subjected to medical or scientific experiments without their consent.

“Section 58 gives everyone the right to freedom of assembly and association. Unvaccinated congregants must still enjoy their freedom to assemble as much as the vaccinated,” the petition read.

The lawyers said fair labour practices did not impose mandatory vaccination as a condition for employment.

“This is more so because it appears that employers are only barring unvaccinated employees and not customers. It is also quite clear that a majority of workers are not yet vaccinated and a sudden and unregulated imposition of mandatory vaccination will lead to massive job losses that will have far reaching consequences on the economy,” the petition further read.

Women Abused In ZUPCO Buses

By A Correspondent- Student activists from the University of Zimbabwe have implored Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) authorities to avail more buses to reduce pressure when people board buses and kombis as this has resulted in rampant sexual abuse of women in queues.

Mawere urged ZUPCO officials to create a women-friendly environment in the ZUPCO ranks and terminuses.

“Deploy Polling Agents To Curb Rigging”: Mliswa Tells President Chamisa

By A Correspondent- Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent) has urged opposition political parties to deploy polling agents at all polling stations and ensure they are well-paid to prevent rigging in the 2023 elections.

He refused to accept the results, alleging rigging, but his petition was dismissed by the Constitutional Court.

Fake Zim Prophet Nabbed In Botswana

Tanaka Gapare

By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwean man masquerading as a prophet in Botswana has been shamed after it emerged that he was sleeping with a number of women who sought his services and peddling a ‘magic’ oil called ‘Do as I say’ for P10 000 a bottle.

According to reports by one of Botswana’s popular newspapers, The Voice, Gerald Eliazer Tanaka Gapare, aka Gerald Miracle’s arrest came after his former fiancé, Tebo Mooki, spotted a poster advertising Miracle’s appearance at a ‘Prophetic Invasion’ in Mahalapye.

The paper recently reported that Gapare who is now behind bars was arrested after being deported thrice for being in that country illegally.

According to The Voice, Mooki, 40, who herself is a prophetess at God Grace International Ministry (GGIM), was in fact responsible for Miracle’s initial arrest back in April when she had a vivid dream that showed her then-lover was using charms.

The God-fearing woman, known as Prophetess Hannah, told The Voice that in her dream she saw exactly where Miracle hid his devices, which included an animal horn as well as various herbs, bones and ointments.

According to Mooki, when she awoke, she went to the hiding place and found there were indeed strange items hidden there. She says when she confronted her man, he duly confessed to using charms to defraud women and have sex with them.

“I reported to the police and they discovered that he was using a fake passport and was an illegal immigrant. He was deported on the 14th of April but, on the 18th, I was surprised to see his poster advertising a church service in Mogoditshane. He was arrested and deported in June. He is back again!” Prophetess Hannah told The Voice.

Describing Miracle as a sex-hungry maniac, Mooki claims when she asked him to get rid of the horn, he refused, saying he needed it to manage his erections.

“I want this man to be exposed because he is sexually abusing women and stealing their money in the name of God.

“I also found out he was having love affairs with many of my church ushers. I asked him to destroy the horn and he said it is not easy because when he throws it away, he remains horny!”

The paper reported that Miracle’s libido was said to be so strong that, according to Mooki, when the police were looking for him, a receptionist at one of the hotels in Gaborone told them that in one night, the miracle man could bring up to seven women back to his room for sex!

Casting her mind back to happier times, Mooki told The Voice the couple first met in 2017 in Rustenburg, South Africa where the church is based. After preaching the Word of God together for some time, they fell head-over-heels in love.

Smitten, by 2018 they were engaged, with Miracle keen to introduce his wife-to-be to his family in Masvingo, Zimbabwe.

“When we met, he claimed to be owning a mine in Zimbabwe, but I became suspicious because he was always broke. I asked his mother about his mining business and she told me it’s a lie.

“He kept on pushing that we get married but I refused and told him not until he found a job. He told me he was a servant of God and he was not supposed to work,” she told The Voice, concluding it was thanks to the good Lord for showing her Miracle’s true colours and helping her avoid a nightmare marriage.

Meanwhile, upon his arrest the alleged bogus prophet was found using a passport, the police believed to be fake.

Memory Machaya Is Actually Alive, Police Announce

Memory Machaya thought to be the 14 year old Marange victim of child marriage, is not dead at all, the Zimbabwe Republic Police announces. Full Text-

ARREST OF HATIRARAMI MOMBERUME IN CONNECTION WITH THE PREGNANCY AND DEATH OF A MINOR AT MARANGE SHRINE
The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to thank the public for patience and space which they allowed the Police to conduct investigations into the alleged death of Memory Machaya at Mafararikwa Village, Marange while giving birth in July 2021.
The Police has indeed conducted comprehensive investigations culminating in the arrest of Hatirarami Momberume (26) alias Evans Momberume. The minor who died in this case is Anna Machaya, born on 5th July 2006 and not Memory Machaya born on 2nd January 1999.

It is correct that Anna Machaya died on 15th July 2021 and was buried at the shrine after experiencing complications while giving birth.

The police is also pressing criminal charges against Anna Machaya’s father, Edmore Machaya (45) and mother Shy Mabika (36) for obstructing or defeating the course of justice. The parents openly lied to the Police that Anna Machaya was born rd January 1999. The mother went on to give Police investigators a national identity card in a bid to prove that she was born on 2″d January 1999. This was false. Investigations have revealed that the identity card produced to the police belonged to a namesake of the late minor who is a daughter to Ernest Machaya. This is an uncle to the late Anna Machaya. It is through school records in Mhondoro that the Police actually proved that the late Anna Machaya was born on 5th July 2006 to Edmore Machaya and Shy Mabika. The Police has obtained the correct birth certificate copies in respect of Memory Machaya (22) and the late Anna Machaya (15). These are two different people with different mother and father. Memory Machaya is alive and currently married to Lameck Makonye alias Sigodhla (54) in Mhondoro.

Hatirarami Momberume is facing charges of rape or alternatively contravening section 70 of the Code. The late Anna Machaya’s parents will face charges of pledging a minor after trying to hand over another minor aged nine years to the suspect.

Investigations are in progress with a view of unraveling all the facts in this case. The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges all Zimbabweans to be law abiding citizens and engage in lawful activities. Anyone who tries to interfere with Police investigations will face the full wrath of law.

Mafume Bounces Back…

Harare mayor Jacob Mafume, who was suspended last December by Local Government minister July Moyo, is back in office, triggering confusion at Town House over who is in charge between him and acting mayor Stewart Mutizwa.

Mafume returned to work on Monday and held several meetings, including a presentation on Sunshine Holdings projects with former Harare mayor Muchadeyi Masunda.

“I am back in the office now. My suspension ended,” Mafume told NewsDay yesterday.

Harare has been operating with councillor Mutizwa as acting mayor since the suspension of Mafume who is being accused of criminal abuse of office relating to improper allocation of residential stands.

Mafume, however, denies the allegations.

Harare is currently in a crisis as it is operating with only one substantive director, Prosper Chonzi (health) after several others were suspended and were facing criminal charges.

Former mayor Herbert Gomba (MDC Alliance), who was elected mayor in 2018, but was recalled by the MDC-T, is also facing criminal charges.

He was succeeded by Mafume before his suspension. Luckson Mukunguma took over as acting mayor and was also suspended.

Mutizwa was not picking calls yesterday. But sources at Town House said he was the preferred choice of government officials, adding that it was only a matter of time before Mafume was “dealt with”.

Mnangagwa Home Driver Commits Suicide Inside Prison

A 38-year- old mshika-shika driver in Emmerson Mnangagwa’s home area allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Zvishavane Central Police Station in protest after his vehicle was impounded by the police.

Tapiwa Manyimo of Maglas suburb, Zvishavane in the asbestos mining town was pronounced dead on arrival at Zvishavane District Hospital where he had been rushed for medical attention.

A suicide note was found in one of his pockets which indicated that he was having sleepless nights at home as his wife was tormenting him over the impounded vehicle.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident but said he had no full details at hand.

“I can confirm that there is a sudden death matter involving a Zvishavane man who committed suicide and left behind a suicide note,” he said.

Asst Comm Nyathi said police investigations were underway. Sources close to the matter said the incident occurred on Saturday.

They said Manyimo visited Zvishavane central police station to negotiate for the release of his vehicle which had been impounded by the police.

The police have been impounding pirate taxis and other vehicles caught violating the Covid-19 regulations countrywide.

“Police in Zvishavane recently launched a blitz on pirate taxis and Tapiwa Manyimo was one of the victims of the blitz as his fun cargo was impounded,” said Mr Promise Mariba.

He said Manyimo penned a suicide note in which he was accusing his wife of pressuring him to recover the impounded vehicle because he was no longer able to look after his family.

Mr Mariba said the vehicle was their only source of income.

“He then walked to the police station and pleaded with the police officers to have his pirate taxi released but the police would not budge. Man Killed For Relieving Self On Tombstone

BONGANI NEEDED a pee so he stepped into the graveyard.

But if he thought it was okay to pee on a tombstone, somebody with a gun thought it wasn’t.

He was shot at close range at Bakerton Cemetery in Springs, Ekurhuleni by a person who accused him of not respecting his ancestors on Sunday and died on the spot.

His gatvol family want cops to hunt down the suspect to pay for what he did.

A 28-year-old friend of Bongani Zwane (26) from Gugulethu squatter camp in Springs was with him when the incident happened.

Health Expert Warns Of COVID-19 Fourth Wave

Professor Solwayo Ngwenya has warned Zimbabweans to remain vigilant and reduce human interaction to avoid the fourth wave of COVID-19.

Prof Ngwenya, who is Mpilo Central Hospital acting chief executive officer, said lightening the lockdown would be akin to lighting a fire. He said:

I’m afraid the fourth wave is going to be in the making very soon. I can see even yourself you are starting to talk about lightening the lockdown, so once it is lightened, you are going to light a fire.

I’m afraid that the message remains the same, the consistency of Solwayo Ngwenya of Bulawayo is that people must respect that the coronavirus is a terrible disease that has befallen humankind.

According to my predictions, this disease is not going to go away without taking many lives going forward.

It’s incumbent on people that instead of taking warnings as alarmist behaviour, sit down and think carefully, take heed of what we always say, the consistent warning that coronavirus is a serious disease.

… Fourth and fifth or whatever waves are going to be of our making and if we are not careful, we are going to brew up a big wave which is going to consume and kill many people.

He dismissed false claims that cases could start to fall as summer sets in saying the Delta variant doesn’t seem to be following a seasonal trend and attacks humans wherever it can find them.

Prof Ngwenya added that the coronavirus is still here for about three or four years to come, so relaxing the lockdown will result in rising infections and deaths due to the excitement that accompanies the relaxation of lockdowns.- H- Metro

Underestimate President Chamisa At Your Own Peril, Hwende Warns Zanu PF Stalwarts

Tinashe Sambiri|God is removing wicked leaders and replacing them with his chosen servants, MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende has declared.

Hwende challenged naysayers to stop criticizing President Chamisa for his religious beliefs as he is drawing divine inspiration from the word of God.

Hon Hwende also took a swipe at Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba for intimidating citizens.

“Vana Jamwanda kungovukura uku kuda kutyisa vanhu zvenhema!!

The people who fought during the war of liberation are suffering like all of us. Only ED and his children nana Jamwanda are busy looting our resources. This ED son with this car akarwa hondo ipi???

The youths must continue registering to vote and mobilize for a people’s victory. The liberation struggle history and legacy will be better protected by President Nelson Chamisa and genuine war veterans will be taken care of by the state.”

“Underestimate President Nelson Chamisa at your own peril.

We see you people criticizing his religious and Christian beliefs, The biggest lesson from Malawi and Zambia recent opposition victories is that God is removing wicked leaders and replacing then with God fearing leadership. Laugh at the Bible at your own peril.

We see you. Plans of removing Zanupf and governing the country Yes we have that’s why we have managed to make the MDC Alliance the only authentic voice of the Zimbabwean masses. Yes it takes a plan and plans we have,” added Hon Hwende.

2023 Polls: President Chamisa Will Defeat Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri| Basing their arguments on historical facts, political bookmakers are projecting that there is no way Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa will win the 2023 Presidential Election.

Malawi and Zambia, both former British colonies are now under new governments respectively and political commentators argue the wave of change is sweeping across the former Rhodesia and Nyasalaland geographical area.

Zimbabwe was initially part of the united Rhodesia and Nyasalaland Republic.

MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala believes in 2023 Zanu PF will be voted out of power.

Below is Hon Sikhala’s presentation:

We must build and expand the horizons of our friends and followers.

The business of insulting other pple should not be part of our portion.

We mean good to everyone and every suffering Zimbabwean. We need all for the struggle and fight for freedom. In numbers we will kick them out.

This country some years ago was called the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. It included modern day Malawi, Zambia and our own Zimbabwe. UZ was once Univ of Rhod and Nyasa

They did it in Malawi and recently did it in Zambia. We will do it in Zimbabwe in 2023.
Come on Zimbabwe!!!

Zimbabweans shld not listen at all to threats of war thrown around by pple like George Charamba.

Zimbabwe will never hv a war again to subvert the pple. He must be careful of what he is bargaining for.

War is not a good thing in any society. Zvibatatei vana George. Musazochema

Is Mnangagwa Turning 83 This Year ?

Tinashe Sambiri|Professor Jonathan Moyo has postulated that the Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa lied about his age.

Moyo posits that Mnangagwa’s year of birth is 1938 and he wil turn 83 next month.

If Prof Moyo’s assertion is anything to go by, it means Mr Mnangagwa lied about his age.

“HOW OLD IS EMMERSON MNANGAGWA? Some who were with him in Zambia, and were born in Sept 1938, say they used to have joint birthday parties with him.

In the 1980s/90s, press reports said he was born in Sept 1942. Now he says he was born in 1946. Truth is he’s turning 83 next month!

AS MEMBERS OF THE ZANU Branch in Lusaka in Zambia & although born on different dates in 1938, three persons used to hold an annual joint party to celebrate having been born in the same year, as boys of 1938, and these are Josiah Tongogara, Jonathan Mandaza and Emmerson Mnangagwa,” Prof Moyo posted on Twitter.

Facts About COVID-19 Prevention And Brain Health

Taking preventive measures against COVID-19 can help you protect your brain health, one expert says.

Two studies presented at the 2021 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) in Denver suggest that COVID-19 may lead to cognitive impairment down the road — and that certain symptoms that persist after recovering from the infection may be associated with cognitive decline.

One study uncovered ties between persistent loss of smell after recovering from COVID-19 and cognitive decline. The other found that people whose physical and respiratory health suffered due to a bout of COVID-19 were more likely to have issues with cognition afterward.

“I think what we’re learning is that it’s quite possible that these COVID-19 infections are potentially having an impact on the brain in some way,” says Rebecca Edelmayer, PhD, who is the senior director of scientific engagement for the Alzheimer’s Association in Chicago. Edelmayer was not affiliated with either study.

“There are still a lot of questions about the cause and effect, whether this is a direct or indirect effect [of COVID-19], but what we’re starting to see is data that suggests that people may be having some long-term impact from COVID-19 infection,” Edelmayer adds.

Persistent Loss of Smell Tied to Cognitive Impairment
In one study, researchers assessed 233 people who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) and 64 healthy participants who tested negative.

All participants in the study were age 60 or older. Those who tested positive were studied for three to six months after recovering from the virus.

The study participants underwent testing of their cognition and olfactory function — or function related to their sense of smell.

Many IBD Patients Skipped or Reduced Medication Doses Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic
COVID-19 Transmission, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention:

The results of the study suggested that loss of smell was associated with persistent cognitive impairment among participants who recovered from the virus — and people with more severe loss of smell were more likely to have more severe cognitive impairment.

However, the researchers noted, the severity of olfactory dysfunction was not associated with how severe one’s bout of COVID-19 was.

“There is some suggestion that lack of smell could be a symptom of COVID-19 infection itself, but some people who experience COVID-19 without that symptom are having a persistent lack of smell afterward. So I think we have to learn more about what that symptom itself may imply in terms of the long-term impact of COVID-19 on the brain,” Edelmayer says.

COVID-19’s Lingering Effects on Lung Health (and What It Means for Cognition)
In a small, Greek study, researchers tested physical and mental function beginning with 32 people two months after they’d been hospitalized and recovered from mild to moderate COVID-19.

According to the study’s lead author, George Vavougios, MD, PhD, who is a postdoctoral researcher for the University of Thessaly, the number of participants in this study has now grown to almost 100.

None of the participants had any prior coexisting health conditions other than hypertension, or high blood pressure.

Testing included the six-minute walk test, which measures how far someone can walk for six minutes, as well as their oxygen saturation — or levels of oxygen in their blood as they were completing the test.

Other tests such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment measured whether participants had experienced cognitive decline after recovering from COVID-19.

Early findings from the study showed that more than half (56.2 percent) of participants had cognitive decline after recovering from COVID-19. Cognitive decline was found to be most common among people who demonstrated poor physical health and had concerningly low levels of oxygen in the blood during the six-minute walk test.

“For a healthy person, oxygen saturation would be at 99 percent whether we’re exercising or walking,” he explains. But for many people in the study, their oxygen saturation dropped to 95 percent, which, Dr. Vavougios says, resembles the lung function of someone with COPD (a group of lung conditions that inhibit airflow and cause breathing issues).

This finding could spell trouble for brain health, explains Vavougios. “A brain deprived of oxygen is not healthy, and persistent deprivation may very well contribute to cognitive difficulties,” he said in a press release.

Of Whom Shall I Be Afraid? – Sabbath School Summary

Sabbath School Summary
LESSON 8
By Elder Dr MASIMBA MAVAZA
Free to Rest
Lesson 8
Memory Text: Psalms 27:1
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

INTRODUCTION

Many of the people Jesus encountered in His earthly ministry were sick, sometimes even unto death. They thronged to Jesus for healing and for rest from their sufferings; and they always received it.

Sometimes He just spoke a word, and they were fully recovered. Sometimes He touched the sick, and, miraculously, they were healed. Sometimes He sent them off, and healing took place as they went on their way. Jesus healed men, women, children, Jews, non-Jews, rich people, and poor, unassuming people. The worst cases of leprosy and blindness were not beyond His reach. Indeed, He even healed those with the worst “sickness” of all—death.

This week, we look at two very different examples of healing. In the one, the sufferer was so ill that he could not even come to Jesus on his own. His symptoms were clearly visible to everyone. In the other case, there were no obvious visible symptoms. In both cases, healing came in God’s time and way.

As we explore the topic of rest from pain and suffering, we also will contemplate the question that all of us, at some point or another in our Christian walk, have experienced. What happens when our prayers for healing aren’t answered?

SABBATH: Jesus Christ is the Great Physician. He devoted more time to healing the sick of their maladies than to preaching. No ailing soul came to him & left unattended to. He healed by words, by touch, & by command (sending away). The rich, poor, young, old, Jews, & Gentiles all got their healing. We’ll study two kinds of His healing; 1. when signs are visible & 2. when not visible. God answers prayer in His time.

SUNDAY: The “why” questions in life are often asked when one is sick; whether life threatening or not. Has the unhealthy habits made us sick? Is it because of our weight or the drugs we took 20 years ago? The sure thing is that we need rest; physically & mentally when sick. A paralytic self-inflicted his malady on himself but Christ healed him (Mark 2:1-4). Sin is the root of all maladies (see DA, p. 267-271).

MONDAY: In healing the paralytic, Christ tackled the root source for his ailment—sin (Mark 2:5-12). He who is the Searcher of hearts operated not by sight—signs & symptoms but what was unseen. Being alienated from God, He was exposed to sickness & no true rest. He who rests in God is able to face all woes in this world. Christ gave healing to the paralytic in both body & soul (Mark 2:8, 9, Gen. 1).

TUESDAY: Statistical data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that over 300 million souls are affected by ailments without symptoms, yearly. Depression, the leading cause of disability in this world is often not talked about in the Christian circles. Some see it as a depiction of lack of faith & hence shy away from raising it (not true). Elijah also got depressed (1 Kings 18 & 19:1-5). God brings joy.

WEDNESDAY: Elijah fled from his post of duty when threatened. If he had faith in God as in Mt. Carmel, he would sparked a major reform in Israel (1 Kings 18:36, 37 & 19:4). When calm, he realized he was just like anyone of us, a sinner in need of a Savior; Christ. He felt weak & was too tired to run. He prayed to God. God sees us as He see Jesus when we pray (Phil. 3:9). Death is not the escape for depression (1 Kings 19:4, 7). Christ is (SC, p. 97).

THURSDAY: As the Burden Bearer, God knew the plight of Elijah. He was physically & emotionally tired. As Jesus gave the paralytic rest, God relieved Elijah from his loads of burden (1 Kings 19:5-8). Elijah was running away from his troubles but God bid him to run to Him. There comes a time in life when we feel down & wants to run. God feels our sorrows & wants to redirect us (1 Kings 19:12, 15, 16 & 2 Kings 2:11, 1:10).

FRIDAY: Times change, but God does not. Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor power shall be able to separate us from God’s love. God is forever good. His relation to us does not change with a change in our circumstances. Always look unto Jesus, for He cares for you. Offer silent prayers in faith & take hold of His strength no matter how you feel. Even when depressed, God listens. His light will find you.

Discussion Questions

? It is often very difficult to help someone suffering from mental disorders or depression. What would be a good strategy for your church to learn how to minister more effectively to those affected by depression?

? We often struggle to be open and honest before God. Scan through some psalms and see how open and honest the biblical authors were before God. How can we foster an atmosphere of openness and honesty in our local congregation?

? Prayer is often difficult when we face depression. Discuss the power of intercessory prayer for those who cannot pray for themselves.

? Why is it so important that we remember that faith is not feeling? Just because we are depressed, discouraged, fearful, and worried doesn’t mean we lack faith or trust in God. It means only that, for the moment, we are depressed, discouraged, fearful, and worried, as all of us have been at some point or another. How can we learn that, at times like this, reaching out in faith is so crucial, no matter how difficult it may seem?

? What great hope can you take from the story of the paralytic, especially if a sinful lifestyle has brought disease and sickness upon you?

Memory Machaya Case: Rapist Arrested

ZRP PRESS STATEMENT

19 AUGUST 2021

British Overview Report Is Politically Motivated Against Zimbabwe – Mavaza

Victor Matemadanda and Dr Masimba Mavaza in studio

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe was shocked by the British Overview Report which cast a very thick dark cloud on Zimbabwe’s economy. In a direct attack on Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and economy the British Overview Report encouraged British citizens not to invest in Zimbabwe.

The intentions of the British was not hidden they came out very clear in their report. After attacking the Zimbabwean economy the British went on to state in their report that Zimbabwean Elections are in 2023. This was not a mention by the way. It was a calculated decampaigning strategy meant to soil the good name of the ruling party. This was politics packaged in an economic report.
The British Overview Report shows all under hand being played by the British in their push towards Regime change. Zimbabweans must treat this report with all the contempt it deserves.

Contrary to the BOR Zimbabwe has experienced a resurgence in economic activity, with GDP growth averaging about 3% percent during 2020-2021. Economic growth in Zimbabwe surpassed the average for Sub-Saharan Africa during this period. The economy rebounded significantly in the early years of the new dispensation averaging 3 percent growth during the pandemic.

Overview.
Prior to 2020 Zimbabwe experienced periods of strong and weak economic performance. Real GDP growth rates averaged nearly 2.9 percent a year reflecting deliberate policies that promoted large-scale investment in domestic manufacturing and agriculture. The latter policies were motivated in large part by a need to achieve self-sufficiency following international sanctions against the Zimbabwean government.

It is a fact that Since 1980, Zimbabwe’s performance has been mixed, reflecting policy lapses and adverse weather conditions that affected agricultural output. The country recorded its strongest post-independence growth performance during 1980-90 with gross domestic product (GDP) growing by an average of around 5.5 percent, higher than the average for Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries, while the population grew at about 3 percent.

But what is economic Growth Economic growth it is an increase in the production of goods and services over a specific period. To be most accurate, the measurement must remove the effects of inflation.
Let us remember that Zimbabwe in 1980, when it became independent from British rule, it inherited a developed and predominantly white controlled economy. Since then, the government of Zimbabwe instituted a number of reforms that transformed the economy from being more of socialism to more of capitalism, as it is today More importantly, is the change in trade dynamics between 1980 and the post 2000 period. National, global and regional trade developments and resultant policies have also contributed to the noted trade shift. The historical decade of economic contraction and political developments, from the start of the new millennium, affected the country’s real economy, as was manifested in shrinking production capacity and hence the composition, value, volume and source of both exports and imports. The measuring of the GDP became biased when Zimbabwe tried to reach an economic emancipation and extricate itself from the policies which favoured the white minority. The over celebrated economy was measured against the white population and the black majority lives did not mater. The moment Zimbabwe interpreted its independence to mean economic freedom the world looks at our economy differently.

While the British try to jinx our economy and rubbish the efforts being done by Mthuli NCUBE the World Bank gave a different view of our economy. The world bank in its March 2021 report said “After facing an economic crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, Zimbabwe’s economy is set to rebound by 2.9% in 2021, supported by recovery of agriculture and due to base effects. Expected bumper harvest and continuation of rule-based monetary policy will stabilize food prices and improve food security. However, disruptions caused by the pandemic will continue to weigh on economic activity in Zimbabwe, limiting employment growth and improvements in living standards.” The world bank reported further that.

“In 2020, gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have contacted by 8% for a second year in a row as COVID-19 halted economic recovery. Operating restrictions led to depressed manufacturing, non-mineral exports, and hospitality, trade, and transport sectors. Sales of manufacturing and services firms in July 2020 were about half sales in 2019. Supply-side shocks subsided after easing of mobility restrictions, but domestic demand was weak in an environment of triple-digit inflation, high unemployment and income losses. Demand for imports increased as several years of drought necessitated increased imports of maize and electricity while the pandemic presented new demands for lab equipment and medical supplies. The current account was in surplus, due to high remittances inflows and trade surplus.”

It is very clear that the slowing down of our economy during 2020 was due to COVID-19 which was not originated by Zimbabwe’s miss-governing as the British want us to believe.

Fiscal and monetary policy responses to the pandemic have been limited to contain volatility of prices. Fiscal policy remained tight despite wage pressures and additional spending needs to respond to the pandemic and growing number of poor. The fiscal balance turned into a small deficit of 1.3% of GDP in 2020. In June 2020, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe operationalized the reserve money targeting framework, floated the exchange rate, and introduced foreign auction. These measures helped to stabilize the parallel market exchange rate and reduce the parallel market premium, although it remained distortionary. As a result, inflation slowed down to 322% in February 2021 from its peak of 838% in July 2020.

The pandemic and its impacts disrupted livelihoods, especially in urban areas.  Wage earners in urban areas and the extreme poor were disproportionally affected by the pandemic, as their pay was either cut or not received at all. Rural households rely less on wage employment and nonfarm businesses.
Zimbabwe has done well in fighting the pandemic.

Project preparations became a success for the Health Emergency Preparedness Response Trust Fund to contribute to the country’s National Vaccination and Deployment Strategy in line with a request from the Government. Zimbabwe has reached a two million mark in the vaccination.
This is a feat never expected by any one in the world.

There has been some stealing of COVID funds or misuse there of but this is not at the proportion of the Americans who stole over ten billion in COVID FUNDS. Or the very British whose prime-mister’s girlfriend made millions from Covid funds. This stinks to the highest level.

We are aware that The latest economic analysis for the country says the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts disrupted livelihoods.

The pandemic further disrupted provision of basic public services in health, education and social protection, which were strained prior to the pandemic, affecting poor citizens the most. the report warns that there is a risk of reversing some of Zimbabwe’s previous progress on human capital development.
The Zimbabwe Economic situation is overcoming Economic Challenges, Natural Disasters, and the Pandemic. The report by the British is a shameful biased report. Zimbabwe’s economy is bouncing back in 2021 as the country shrugs off the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the government takes further measures to stabilise the currency, finance minister Mthuli Ncube said. We as Zimbabweans should go by our minister’s word his reporting is not biased and he is the one on the ground. His report is corroborated by the World Bank which is more reliable than the biased British report.

“Gross domestic product is expected to expand by 7.4 per cent after contracting by an estimated 4.5 per cent this year,”Minister Ncube said in a budget strategy paper presented to reporters and businesspeople in the capital, Harare.

Growth next year will be anchored by agriculture and mining, which forecast to grow by 11.3 per cent and 11 per cent respectively, he said.

The country generates the bulk of its foreign currency earnings from exports of tobacco, gold and platinum. So Zimbabwe is thriving in the glory of progress.

We must remember that Economic growth is an increase in the production of goods and services over a specific period. To be most accurate, the measurement must remove the effects of inflation. Zimbabwe has had a bumper harvest thanks to Pfumvudza project. How on earth can any one say our economy has gone down.

While the history of the global pandemic is still being written, one enduring outcome of the past year will certainly be its effect on the imperative of sustainability. This shared trauma served to remind us just how fragile we are as a community, as a global economy, and as stewards of the earth’s climate. The difficult work of improving environmental, social, and governance norms is taking place at all levels of society, and the resulting changes will have profound implications for investors. So investors should be afraid of investing in the whole world if we judge by the way the world was not prepared to fight COVID-19. It is not fair to single out Zimbabwe and issue a false alarm.

It is surely very safe to invest in Zimbabwe and it is only the figment of a rotten imagination in the mind of those who believe that Zimbabwe is not safe for investment.
Another significant issue highlighted by investors who are benefiting by investing in Zimbabwe over the past year is the peace and security prevailing in Zimbabwe.
The confused economic intelligence operatives must realise that as a nation Zimbabwe is pleased to provide latest thinking on issues that we believe will affect investors in the months and years to come. Zimbabwe has a global footprint and diverse capabilities to enable it to offer both the insight of our economy and the product solutions to help investors realize the possibilities and advantages of investing in Zimbabwe.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in Zimbabwe is projected to reach 3.9 percent in 2021, a significant improvement after a two-year recession, according to the World Bank Zimbabwe Economic Update (ZEU) launched in June 2021.

Zimbabwe has enjoyed peace and tranquility which is rare in other countries.
There has never been a human rights complain in Zimbabwe since the new dispensation. Even the detractors have sang praises of peace in Zimbabwe. The investment has taken a new high and Zimbabwe remains open for business.
One point we must all bear in mind is that it is the same detractors who decide what is a safe environment for investment. Their word is tainted with self serving idiocy and wants to keep Zimbabwe under their thump.

As a nation it is enough we can not take it any longer. People should learn to mind their problems. Right now the UK and America are crawling out of Afghanistan with their tails in between their legs. Instead of concentrating on that they make it their business to destroy Zimbabwe.

The whole issue about Zimbabwe not being safe for investment is calculated to undermine the efforts done by Zimbabwe. It is a clear effort to promote the opposition in the forth coming elections in 2023.

.
Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours in the whole world and it is our duty to guard our interests jealously.

Coup In Welshman Ncube’s MDC As Senior Member Claims Control

By A Correspondent- A member of the Welshman Ncube-led MDC has announced that he expelled the party leadership for aligning themselves with the Nelson Chamisa-led formation and threatened to recall four MPs from Parliament.

A letter by Shipikai Mandaza, who described himself as interim leader of the MDC-N, stated that six senior leaders, among them party leader Welshman Ncube and Dzivarasekwa MP Edwin Mushoriwa, who was the deputy president, were no longer members of the MDC-N after aligning with Chamisa.

Speaking to NewsDay on Wednesday, Mandaza said he would fight to ensure the recall of Mushoriwa from Parliament and other elected officials.

“If you join another political party, automatically you would have expelled yourself from the MDC-N. We cannot, therefore, have a situation where we have Ncube as our president and him being the vice-president of the MDC Alliance. You cannot play for Highlanders and Dynamos football clubs at the same time,” he said.

Mandaza’s letter comes after the MDC-N suspended four officials last week for attending a meeting convened by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T on August 3, 2021.

The four, Mandaza, Christopher Monera (secretary for policy and research), Munhangu Musevenzo (secretary for training and political education) and Gift Kurupati (national council member) were set to appear before a disciplinary hearing, according to Faruoh Jele, the alliance national disciplinary committee chairperson.

Reached for comment Ncube’s spokesperson Kurauone Chihwai said the four are were suspended and would appear before a disciplinary committee in due course.

Embarrassment For July Moyo As Mafume Bounces Back at Town House

By A Correspondent- Harare mayor Jacob Mafume (MDC Alliance), who was suspended last December by Local Government minister July Moyo, is back in the office.

Moyo suspended Mafume on allegations of corruption and replaced him with Councillor Stewart Mutizwa.

Mafume returned to work on Monday and held several meetings, including presenting Sunshine Holdings projects with former Harare mayor Muchadeyi Masunda.

“I am back in the office now. My suspension ended,” said Mafume.

Former mayor Herbert Gomba (MDC Alliance), who was elected mayor in 2018, but was recalled by the MDC-T, is also facing criminal charges.

Mafume succeeded him before his suspension. Luckson Mukunguma took over as acting mayor and was also suspended.

NewsDay reported sources at Town House as saying Mutizwa was the preferred choice of government officials, adding that it was only a matter of time before Mafume was “dealt with”.

Victory For Chamisa As Mafume Bounces Back at Town House

By A Correspondent- Harare mayor Jacob Mafume (MDC Alliance), who was suspended last December by Local Government minister July Moyo, is back in the office.

Councillor Stewart Mutizwa had been acting Harare mayor since Mafume’s suspension, and it is not clear who is in charge at Town House between the two.

Mafume returned to work on Monday and held several meetings, including presenting Sunshine Holdings projects with former Harare mayor Muchadeyi Masunda. :

“I am back in the office now. My suspension ended,” said Mafume.

Mafume was suspended last year following his arrest on criminal abuse of office allegations relating to improper allocation of residential stands, charges that he denies.

Gukurahindi Victims In Explosive Meeting With Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent- Matabeleland traditional leadership is preparing for a Gukurahundi explosive meeting with Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to the state media, the meeting is due this Saturday in Bulawayo.

Several chiefs from Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South will today and tomorrow hold meetings to deliberate on the subject ahead of the meeting with Mnangagwa on Saturday.

Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga is also expected to attend the high-powered meeting on Saturday.

The others expected to attend the meeting are the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Local Government and Public Works officials.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi on Wednesday confirmed the development, saying the chiefs are expected to add flesh on the agenda of the meeting. Said Ziyambi:

Ask the chiefs, we are just facilitators, we have been invited as well. I’m sure they will be happy to tell you because we don’t want it to appear as if it’s our meeting when it’s their meeting.

President of the National Council of Chiefs, Chief Charumbira who is expected to be part of the meeting said he could not comment over the phone.

But sources close to the developments told the Chronicle that the Gukurahundi issue is expected to top the agenda.

Gukurahundi is a term used to refer to the 1980s massacre of an estimated 20 000 people mainly from the Ndebele ethnic group by the Zimbabwe National Army’s 5th brigade, trained by North Koreans.

Gukurahundi is derived from a Shona language term that loosely translates to “the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains.

Kazembe Gives In To Pressure, Sets Police On The Late Memory Machaya’s Husband

By A Correspondent- Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe has given in to pressure from the public and finally unleashed the police on the husband of the late 14-year-old girl Memory Machaya, who died while giving birth.

Memory’s death caused an outcry, with the international community expressing concern over the rising cases of child marriages, especially within white garment churches.

Evans Momberume, a member of the Johane Marange in Bocha Mutare, is set to appear at the Mutare Magistrates Court following his arrest in the eastern border town on Wednesday.

Law enforcement sources said Momberume, who had escaped police after abruptly leaving the shrine, was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Homicide Division.
If convicted of having sexual intercourse or performing indecent acts with a young person, Momberume will be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

According to Memory’s mother and aunt, she was buried inside the shrine two hours after her death, but the church’s leaders have denied this.

Memory’s mother said she was blocked from witnessing her burial and banished from the church for “causing trouble”. Investigators are still searching for her burial site.
Zimbabwe has two sets of marriage laws, the Marriage Act and Customary Marriages Act. Neither law gives a minimum age for marriage consent, while the customary law allows polygamy.
A new marriages bill that is before parliament for debate seeks to synchronise the laws, ban the marriage of anyone below 18 years and prosecute anyone involved in the marriage of a minor.

COVID-19 Prevention And Brain Health

Is Emmerson Mnangagwa Turning 83 ?

2023 Elections- History, Odds Tilted Against Mnangagwa: Wiwa

Bogus Army Officer Nabbed Over 19 Rape Charges

HBy A Correspondent- A Harare man who impersonated being Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officer appeared in court Wednesday facing 19 rap_e charges.

He committed the offences, which also include robbery after offering the women transport on various occasions across Harare.

He is also being charged with money laundering and impersonation.

Sam Muropa (31) appeared before Harare magistrate, Dennis Mangosi who advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

The bogus gunman was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to September 18, 2021.

The police said more complainants were still filing charges against Muropa.

According to state papers, the accused bought an Audi A4 vehicle, registration AFA 0272 using the proceeds of crime.

On 27 July this year at around 11 am, the first complainant boarded a Toyota Wish, silver in colour with three occupants including Muropa intending to get into town.

The court heard along Samora Machel Avenue one of the accused’s colleagues seated at the back seat grabbed the complainant by the neck while his accomplice who was seated by her side pointed a pistol at her.

He later grabbed her handbag and stole US$600.

After that Muropa and accomplices covered her face with a cloth and dumped her close to Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison where she was assisted by prison wardens.

On July 29, 2021, at around 14:30 hrs the gang also robbed another complainant of US$20 cash and valuables worth US$170.

The following day, another unsuspecting passenger boarded the trio’s car intending to get into town.

Along the way, close to White House shops in Kuwadzana, the suspects produced knives and ordered the complainant not to lift her head.

They assaulted her with clenched fists and later parked their vehicle at a bushy area near Nharira Farm in Norton.

Muropa allegedly rap_ed the complainant once without protection. After the ordeal, he stole her iPhone and Samsung J4 Plus, national identity card, and US$13.

The trio later dumped her, and she was assisted by good Samaritans.

The court heard the victim told Muropa she was HIV positive after which he forced his manhood in her mouth and later ejacu_lated between her thighs.

They stole money amounting to US$105, Samsung phone, HP laptop, USB, and hard drive.

The accused person threw the complainant’s handbag through the passenger window and ordered her to disembark while nak_ed. She lost property worth US$590 and property worth US$200 was recovered.

Five days later, Muropa and accomplices picked another passenger in Kuwadzana and drove to Bulawayo Road where they suddenly attacked her while in their vehicle.

The court heard they searched for valuables and ordered her to undress.

It is alleged they then forced her to mastur_bate threatening to rap_e her if she did not comply with their orders.

They let her mastur_bate for close to 20 minutes while watching and later dumped her 20 meters away from a railway in Tynwald.

She lost valuables worth US$84 and nothing was recovered.

On the same day at around 11:45 am, two sisters fell prey to the trio after boarding the Toyota Wish at Oriel Girls High in Chisipite intending to get into town.

The two sisters were forced to undress and mastur_bate while the suspects went through their belongings.

They stole US$93, a handbag, wallet, blower, braids, identification particulars, and cellphones before dumping them.

On 13 August, two women from Budiriro were allegedly rap_ed by Muropa on different occasions.

On the same day at around 2 pm, Muropa allegedly rap_ed another woman in Westwood without protection before stealing her belongings and dumping her.

The 17th and 18th counts happened on August 15.

Muropa and friends picked the complainant who they later left nak_ed near Zindoga shopping centre in Waterfalls after stealing valuables worth US$842 from her. Only a Covid -19 vaccination card in her name was recovered.

The second victim on this day was picked up from Highlands.

They blindfolded her and rap_ed her from Highlands to Hatfield without protection. They dumped her and drove along North Road.

She also managed to identify Muropa at an identification parade. She lost property worth US$120 and nothing was recovered.

The last incident investigated occurred on August 16 when the complainant was robbed of goods worth US$520 and nothing was recovered.

On August 16 upon his arrest, he was searched and found in possession of a ZNA military police identity card in the name of Thilli Adnico and a ZNA ID in the name of Pride N Elate Mutembedza.

The court also heard he impersonated Norman Chimuka, who is a lawyer.

On count 21, during the period from January 2021 to July 2021, the accused in the company of his accomplices committed a spate of armed robbery cases in greater Harare and used the proceeds to buy an Audi A4.

Muropa is represented by Tinashe Mbala.
