By A Correspondent- Relatives of the late former President Robert Mugabe say they have already shared his property following his death in 2019.
In a wide-ranging interview, family spokesperson, Leo Mugabe, said it is surprising that Chief Zvimba, who wants Mugabe’s remains to be exhumed from his homestead and reburied at the National Heroes Acre, says some of the late former president’s belongings have not yet been shared.
“We have already shared (his belongings). We’ve done all that. That’s the other responsibility of a nephew, a muzukuru like me. You get my point? That’s where I come in, and we did it. It’s done. Finished.
“We don’t call these people, anashe (chiefs), distant people, you only call close relatives. I have some clothes that used to be his, that were shared on that particular function (homestead event after his death).”
Mugabe claims that Chief Zvimba is not aware that all cultural norms were followed in sharing Mugabe’s property, which includes some farms and clothes.
“Immovable (property) … Some of those things were left for his children. So, basically, it’s normal (for that to happen). It’s normal. Movable things, you know clothes and others, you know, they were all shared. We shared all that.”
Mugabe castigated Chief Zvimba who summoned former First Lady, Grace Mugabe, to appear before a local traditional court facing charges of illegally burying the late former president at his homestead instead of a designated place.
Chief Zvimba says he has given the government the green light to exhume Mugabe’s remains and bury them at the National Heroes Acre where a special enclosure was constructed for him.
At the weekend the Karigamombe clan, related to the Mugabes, held a meeting in which they dismissed Chief Zvimba’s order, noting that he was not supposed to summon Mrs. Mugabe to the traditional court.
The family is vowing to take the matter to the highest court in Zimbabwe in order to block the exhumation of Mugabe’s remains.
Leo Mugabe also insists that Chief Zvimba, who fined Mrs. Mugabe five cattle and a goat for allegedly violating local burial culture, failed to follow laid down traditional norms in dealing with such cases.
He said, “… What he is doing is taking somebody who was married in a family, and he is saying now, you the widow, you must pay. You see, he is suing the wrong person, and this person that he is suing, will then say, you know we are going to take the cattle from the deceased’s estate.
“Who are you punishing? Who are you punishing? The children … Who? People who you did not invite to any hearing, are the ones you are saying, ‘go and pick up the cattle If the cattle were given to the kids, the children, you are now saying go and get the cattle from the children. These children are above 18. They should be cited in many court papers in their own right.”
He said the case will embarrass Zimbabwe.
“I think this whole exercise is an exercise in futility. It will not yield the required results. It will just mess us up as a country, our image and the image of the government and everyone else, because it is not necessary. All this is not necessary.”
Chief Zvimba insists that Mrs. Mugabe should be punished for violating some local traditional rites related to burying people.
She is currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness in Singapore. Mugabe died of cancer in Singapore after ruling Zimbabwe for almost 40 years.
By A Correspondent- If popularity on the soccer pitch could directly translate into political support, then Zimbabwe’s renowned soccer legend, Peter Ndlovu, has a good chance of winning the 2023 presidential elections after he was recently nominated leader of the newly-formed All People’s Party (APP).
Affectionately known as Nsukuzonke during his heyday at Highlanders football Club, Ndlovu is now team manager at Mamelodi Sundowns fC in neighbouring South Africa.
He will not be the first African soccer player to venture into active party politics.
Liberian President George Weah, a former world soccer star of the year, got the most votes in the first ballot in his first contest for the presidential elections in his native land in 2005. However, he failed to secure a majority in Parliament.
There is also Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban who was a footballer who made headlines after he cancelled a Cabinet meeting to play a match for his local club Felcslut FC in 2001.
Although repeated efforts to get a comment from Ndlovu were fruitless, APP vicepresident Sebastian Mubvumbi yesterday told NewsDay that his party was registered with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission on October 31, 2019, but it had not yet done its official launch due to COVID-19 restrictions.
He said Ndlovu had been its leader although this had not been yet announced officially.
The APP said in 2023, Ndlovu would battle it out with the Zanu-PF presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa, MDC Alliance’s Nelson Chamisa, MDC-T’s Douglas Mwonzora and other presidential aspirants for the hot seat.
His popularity in the English soccer league, Mubvumbi said, was evidence that Ndlovu would be able to attract a huge political following.
APP was registered with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission on October 31, 2019, but it was still working out some internal strategies before its president (Ndlovu) could come back to Zimbabwe to take his full leadership role,” he said.
“Ndlovu, one of the greatest football players of all time was preferred to lead the party by a majority of people who call him the flying Elephant. He has not disappointed as a soccer star. Whenever he is called for duty, he is always available, which makes him the rightful candidate to take Zimbabwe into transition.”
Mubvumbi added: “However, he does not have to give up his other commitments in South Africa in order to rush back home to assume his duties as president of the party. It’s not prudent for him to do so, not as yet.”
He said the former Highlanders and Zimbabwe Warriors soccer star was confident of 2023 electoral victory.
Mubvumbi said the APP wanted to change the current top-down approach where the elite dictated development issues to citizens.
“The party would be fully represented in the 2023 elections as it has supporters from grassroot level in all the provinces. They have started building structures and mobilising other supporters,” Mubvumbi said.
“The party’s name speaks about its desire to be a grassroot-oriented party; a party of the subaltern groups in as much as it is the party for all ethnicities, religions and classes. As 2023 beckons, there is not any other time ripe for the people of this great nation to share the same mood to change the current leadership which talks about you, but never to you.
“Zimbabwe cannot continue to be an underdeveloped country at 41 with a few elite individuals enjoying while the rest of the citizens were suffering.”
Ndlovu’s APP party says if it were to be given the mandate to rule in 2023, it would reduce the country’s 10 provinces to five and do away with tribalistic names and tendencies.
Opposition MDC Alliance has claimed that it is confident of electoral victory in 2023, and that it has made inroads in the rural areas that are traditionally considered as Zanu-PF strongholds.
In a communiqué, the Nelson Chamisa-led opposition party said it had managed to attract the rural populace through the party’s Zimbabwe agenda 2021 which is targeting six million voters for the 2023 elections.
“The national executive council (NEC) noted the significant progress that has been made so far in implementing agenda 2021. The agenda has gathered momentum throughout all provinces in Zimbabwe. The enthusiasm both in rural and urban dwellers on the need for convergence is encouraging. Citizens are mobilising to win Zimbabwe for change,” read a communiqué issued by the party after its NEC meeting.
“The people’s party is on the move. It’s getting stronger by the day. There is a stampede among ordinary people to buy party cards and become party members. The party is accelerating its membership drive in recruiting and mobilising for victory. The six million registered voter target is getting close to being achieved.”
But Zanu-PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo described the claims by the MDC Alliance as “wishful thinking”.
“That’s wishful thinking and all I can say is that it’s wishful thought. As for the election as a party we want free and peaceful elections and we wish them to do the same. As for penetrating our stronghold, that’s wishful thinking. We wish them good luck in the elections. However, they should not stay too long in their wishful thinking. If wishes were horses, beggars would certainly ride,” Khaya Moyo told NewsDay.
On electoral reforms, the MDC Alliance said these should be agreed by all stakeholders with clear issues put on the table to the satisfaction of all concerned political parties.
“We reiterate the urgent need to institute and implement genuine electoral reforms; this involves implementing the recommendations by election observer missions. We call for professional and transparent delimitation and census processes as well as sincere voter registration drive before the delimitation process.”
They said Zimbabweans living in the diaspora should be allowed to vote in line with section 67 of the Constitution, adding that electoral violence should end, contesting parties should be accorded access to State media.
“Zimbabwe is suffering from a twin pandemic of COVID-19 and authoritarian consolidation. The regime is on a warpath against its citizens and is in pre-election panic mode. The brazen attack on our constitutional order through the weaponisation of the law, questionable Constitutional amendments and the attempt to create a one-party State must be challenged,” the party said.
In an interview, MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said: “Our people’s agenda is resonating strongly with multitudes of citizens on the ground who are already converging to win Zimbabwe for change. The team’s ability to champion the cause of the people and demonstrate that we are the only viable alternative to Zanu-PF has netted great success.”
By A Correspondent- Harare residents have been warned to brace themselves for acute water shortages in the near future as City of Harare if failing to acquire adequate water purification chemicals.
Harare City Council said that it needs to find other sources of chlorine gas for use in water purification, as its usual supplier is failing to meet demand.
On average, the city fathers require 16 tanks per week, but last week they only received four.
Acting water production manager, engineer Addmore Chawasemerwa, said:
The shortage reduces volumes of water that is produced and the problem is already upon us.
City of Harare spokesperson, Michael Chideme says the shortage is likely to be felt in the long run if it is not addressed.
If we do not have chlorine gas, it means we are reducing the amount of water that we are treating.
We understand there are problems in South Africa with the manufacturer so our supplier is always having problems in accessing frequent amounts of chlorine gas which is directly affecting the city of Harare.
We are now pre-warning residents that there could be a problem in the near future if the situation in South Africa does not improve.
GOVT IS BEST WHICH GOVERNS LEAST..SI 127 signifies panic, lack of astute leadership and absence of prudent economic stewardship. Economic dirigisme and command economics is bad for business and worse for citizens. Rigging elections invites the temptation to rig the economy. Leadership matters!
By Prince Njagu | The untimely and unplanned introduction of Statutory Instrument 127 (SI 127) 2021 by the ZANU PF regime shows how Zimbabwe is being run as a mafia state; a dictatorship state, ran by clueless and impulsive leaders.
ZANU PF imposes regulations and amends them when it feels like doing so. Even when the amendments will not work, the government will try by all means to coerce Zimbabweans into accepting ill drafted bills.
SI 127 (2021) will only increase ZWL$ prices, encourage shortages of commodities in supermarkets and promote trading on the blackmarket. This ZANU PF regime has done this for far too long and all these forced policies and bills have left the vast of Zimbabweans suffering.
The industry has collapsed, leading to basic goods and services being imported into Zimbabwe. Which makes the ZANU PF led administration so delusional to try and force pricing in forex. All imports are done using forex and even ZIMRA accepts duty for imports in forex.
Businesses have already started increasing prices as they try not to lose out on the gazette government exchange rate of 1:85. This is the absurd mandated official rate under SI 127 of 2021.
This all points back to the 2008 era when Zimbabwe faced acute food shortages and people dying of hunger since shops were empty and supplies were on the blackmarket.
“SI 127 signifies panic, lack of astute leadership and absence of prudent economic stewardship,” said MDC-A president, Advocate Nelson Chamisa on his official Twitter account.
“Economic dirigisme and command economics is bad for business and worse for citizens. Rigging elections invites the temptation to rig the economy,“ he added.
Hopewell Chin’ono also criticised the imposition of SI 127 by the ZANU PF government saying it paved way for an economic crisis as prices will skyrocket and the US$ will be devalued.
“Why are prices going up? If a retailer is selling a product at US$1, that is Z$84 at the pegged rate, or Z$130 on the parallel market rate. Retailers are getting their money from the parallel market because RBZ has no forex. So to replace the goods, they have to push up the prices,” said Hopewell.
This shows how unplanned statutory instruments 127 is, the government is imposing a command economy but does not have the financial backing to its policy.
The rich and the elite will not feel the heat, but the vast majority of the Zimbabwean people will feel the effects of this ill-planned policy.
For workers and other civil servants, SI 127 renders their wages worthless. The ZANU PF government will not review salaries monthly to be at par with the prevailing exchange rate or increases in prices for goods and services.
The government will turn a blind eye to the realities that prices are going up daily and the fact that they do not have forex to back up their policy and ease the importation of commodities.
“If Fred was earning US$130 per month and his employer was paying him the equivalent in Zimbabwe dollars; so instead of getting ZW$16,900, he now gets ZW$10,920 because the USD is now pegged at 84 to the Zimbabweans dollar, “ said Hopewell Chin’ono.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has failed to pay teachers who marked the 2020 “O” Level and “A” Level examinations.
Markers who spoke to a local publication said that they are owed $35 000 each and the examinations body intended to raise the money from examination fees which were increased by 1 000 per cent a fortnight ago.
One of the markers told the publication that ZIMSEC informed them that it will stagger the payments. The marker was quoted as saying:
I made inquiries with them and they told me that they didn’t have money at the moment. They said when they start paying, they are going to stagger the payments. Most of us are owed $35 000 each.
ZIMSEC board chairperson Eddie Mwenje, however, said the markers should have been paid by now as they discussed the issue a fortnight ago. He said:
We discussed the matter two weeks ago. You know they are paid after results are out. We published the results some weeks ago and I think they have been paid. I haven’t had any problems with that.
Teachers unions, among them the Zimbabwe National Teachers Union (ZINATU) and Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) on Monday castigated the government, accusing it of being insensitive to the plight of teachers. PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou said:
The money Zimsec uses to pay markers must never be drawn from learners or candidates, but the national budgetary allocation.
It would be irresponsible for Zimsec to benchmark its operations on the payment of exam fees by pupils.
The State must ensure Zimsec operates smoothly, and protect its credibility as a national education examining body.
A fortnight ago, the government set examination fees for the November examinations at ZWL$1 648.00 per subject for Ordinary Level and ZWL$2 400.00 per subject for Advanced Level.
Chief Justice Luke Malaba has asked the High Court to dismiss an application for his arrest on contempt of court charges, arguing that he is lawfully in office.
This follows a ruling by three High Court judges on 15 May that Malaba had ceased to be a judge and Chief Justice after reaching the retirement age of 70.
Malaba returned to office arguing that the High Court ruling had been suspended by an appeal filed by Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi.
This was after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) had appointed Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza to act as Chief Justice before Malaba’s dramatic comeback.
Lawyers for constitutional law activist Musa Kika dispute that an appeal against a declarator suspends the operation of a judgement and have asked the High Court to find him in contempt and jail him.
In his response to the contempt of court application, Malaba said:
Consequent to the filing of the appeals in SC130/21 and SC131/21, I’m advised that regardless of by whom the appeals were noted, the legal effect thereof was to suspend the operation of two orders relied upon by the applicant in this matter.
I, therefore, resumed my duties as the Chief Justice of Zimbabwe following the noting of an appeal by the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General on the basis of the interpretation of the law to the effect of the noting of an appeal against an order granted by this court, not only for the people but for the world at large.
My understanding is that a declaratory is an order that sets out what the law is where there is a dispute on the position of the law for future purposes of the application of that law.
It is for this reason that a declarator without consequential relief is not executable. It does not create rights or obligation. The appeal against such an order will not suspend it because it does not have an immediate effect on the rights of any person.
On Monday exiled former minister Jonathan Moyo claimed that the JSC was involved in illegal moves to influence a panel of three High Court judges to rule in Malaba’s favour.
By A Correspondent- The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Monday said it has devised a less technical, and more easily pronounceable, system for naming COVID-19 variants of the novel coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2.
Scientists said the letters-and-numbers system was so complicated that many people were referring to variants by the places they were discovered, for example, B.1.617.2, which people referred to as the Indian variant because it was first detected in the Asian country.
Variants will be assigned letters of the Greek alphabet in the order in which they are designated potential threats by WHO.
B.1.617.2 has been named Delta under the new system and the variant discovered in Britain (B.1.1.7), which has contributed to devastating waves of cases globally has been renamed Alpha.
Scientists worry that those informal nicknames, such as Indian Variant, South African variant, can be both inaccurate and stigmatising, punishing countries for investing in the genome sequencing necessary to sound an alarm about new mutations that may well have emerged somewhere else.
By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city have just six vehicles covering a population of 650 000, the city’s top cop revealed on Monday as he pleaded for private sector support.
The city has experienced a spate of armed robberies targeting mainly businesses and cash-in-transit vehicles in the past few weeks, with the suspected armed robbers still at large and ready to pounce again.
Commissioner Patton Mbangwa, speaking during a meeting with the Bulawayo business community, said they desperately need new vehicles for faster responses to crime scenes. He said:
The organisation is seriously underfunded in terms of resources. We only have a vehicle each for Queenspark, Luveve, Entumbane, Bulawayo Central (Ford Ranger), Mzilikazi (Ford Ranger) and Magwegwe.
The Hillside vehicle was involved in an accident and it was a write-off while Donnington has what resemblances a vehicle.
Those are the only reliable vehicles that Bulawayo as a province has. All these other stations have no vehicles.
All these Mazda B18s… have had their better days on the road. The reliable Queenspark vehicle is covering the whole Suburban District.
When you make a report, that vehicle might be somewhere on another assignment. That’s the truth of the matter, our bosses and government are aware of this.
I’m glad that you are aware that we’re incapacitated. How can you as the business community of Bulawayo province assist us to be able to assist you?
Two weeks ago, a woman was killed after being shot twice in the head during a robbery at a liquor store in Ascot.
Last week robbers seized money from a cash-in-transit vehicle picking up cash from a Choppies Supermarket in Parklands. The van had cash boxes picked up from six other Choppies outlets.
By A Correspondent- The trial of former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko on criminal abuse of office charges failed to continue yesterday following indications that his lawyer Mr Zibusiso Ncube was involved in a car accident.
Harare regional magistrate Mr Trynos Utahwashe deferred the matter to July 8 for trial continuation.
It is the State’s case that Mphoko allegedly instructed junior officers at Avondale Police Station in Harare to release former Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) acting chief executive Moses Juma and former board member Davison Norupiri, who was Zinara’s finance committee chairperson from the cells.
According to the State’s papers, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) received a case in which Juma and Norupiri were being accused of fraud and criminal abuse of office on May 6, 2016.
Investigations resulted in the arrest of the two for criminal abuse of office.
By A Correspondent- The late Oliver Mtukudzi’s long time friend, steve Dyer has organised a big concert in honour of the late great, the great Zimbabwean musician.
The concert is set for this weekend at Joburg Theatre in South Africa in a show dubbed “Remembering Tuku” and themed along the lines of Africa Month Celebrations.
The show which Dyer is directing will feature two of Tuku’s daughters, Selmor and Sandra. Along with Dyer, they will share the stage with Vusi Mahlasela, Madosini, Ami Faku on May 29 and 30.
“In the cycle of life, it is good that Tuku’s daughters Selmor, Sandra and Samantha are carrying on a tradition initiated by their father,” Dyer told The Southern Times Arts this week. “It is a way to reach beyond the confines of time.”
Selmor has taken over the Tuku brand and she launched her first album after her father’s death last year, and Dyer says it would be a disservice to compare her to her father.
“Comparisons should not be what music is about. What I like is that even though the music that his daughters are playing references Tuku’s music they are also developing their own voices. Music for me is about exploring the best in human intention, achievement and love. Selmor’s album was followed, unfortunately, by a lockdown that impacted on playing the music live. But the music will endure and it doesn’t have an expiry date.”
Dyer also mused about what Tuku would have made of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Perhaps Tuku would be questioning how COVID-19 came to be, but also with a message that we have the strength to deal with it. I hope the show can be a strong remembrance of Tuku the African cultural ambassador, the great songwriter and performer, and the man who is loved by many whose message and sound resonates across man-made borders,” Dyer said.
…The police were called leading to investigation which indicated that there was a triple six and a star on her belly, blood and a strange fluid were also coming out of her mouth…
Police in Bulawayo have arrested a man who allegedly killed a hooker at a lodge and inscribed 666, a number Biblically known as the mark of the beast and a star associated with the occult on her belly in June 2019.
Police spokesperson for Bulawayo Province Inspector Abednico Ncube said Wisdom Mpiloenhle (25) was arrested last week following a tip-off from members of the public.
“On Thursday last week police obtained information regarding the whereabouts of Mpiloenhle leading to his arrest at Wings East Mine, Village 10 Nkankezi, Filabusi and the accused person admitted to committing the heinous act.
“Mpiloenhle allegedly murdered Patience Ndlovu (35), from Cowdray Park suburb, a sex worker whom he had hired and took her to a lodge where they intended to spend the night. During the course of the night, Mpiloenhle allegedly murdered Ndlovu, and inscribed 666 and a star on her stomach with a red substance,” he said.
Ndlovu was found dead at Silver Sands Lodge situated at number 13 Connaught Avenue between Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and Jason Moyo Street on June 3, 2019.
Insp Ncube said Ndlovu’s body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for post-mortem and it was discovered that she was strangled.
“Causes of death were concluded to be asphyxia, strangulation and homicide,” said Insp Ncube.
On June 3, 2019, at around 10AM, Ndlovu’s body was discovered by a general worker who was on duty cleaning the guest rooms. The body was found lying facing upwards fully dressed underneath the bed in the bedroom.
Sources at the lodge said the woman checked in with Mpiloenhle who gave a false Pumula South address as his home at around 3AM on June 2.
On Monday June 3, at around 10AM a staff member went to clean the room and inform the occupants that it was time to check out. She allegedly knocked without a response and eventually opened the door.
When she opened the door, she discovered that Ndlovu was lying dead on the ground. The police were called leading to investigation which indicated that there was a triple six and a star on her belly, blood and a strange fluid were also coming out of her mouth.
Ndlovu was buried at Luveve Cemetery on June 9, 2019. — @jdgjarachara

A MINER from Gwanda is on the run after he pushed his workmate down a 15-metre-deep shaft and set him on fire during a dispute over an undisclosed matter.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkhwananzi confirmed the incident which occurred at Joy 4 Mine in Vhovha area on Saturday at around 7PM. He said the suspect, only identified as Mjoza, pushed Moffat Madera (22) down the shaft, threw a pile of clothes inside and threw in a burning log.
Asst Insp Mkhwananzi said a post-mortem report was yet to confirm whether the now deceased had died because of the fall or burns. “I can confirm that we recorded a murder case which occurred at Joy 4 Mine in Vhovha area.
“Workmates who were seated by a fire fled from the scene as the two fought. Another mine worker who was working in another shaft heard noises and when he rushed to inquire everyone was gone and Madera was in the shaft which was now filled with smoke,” he said.
Asst Insp Mkhwananzi said the matter was reported to the police who attended the scene and Madera’s body was retrieved from the shaft.
He said Madera sustained serious burns.
Asst Insp Mkhwananzi said investigations were underway and appealed to members of the public with information on the identity and whereabouts of Mjoza to contact the police.
“As police we continue to urge people to desist from engaging in violence when facing disputes. People should find amicable ways to solve their disputes. We are concerned with violence which is occurring especially in mining areas as it appears to be on the rise and we as police will descend heavily on these perpetrators.
“Mine owners are also urged to maintain registers of their workers and to take down necessary particulars of their employees. In this case the suspect was employed at a mine but his name isn’t known. An identity of a person is crucial when they are on the run,” he said.- Chronicle

STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA ON PROGRESS IN THE NATIONAL EFFORT TO CONTAIN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
30 MAY 2021
Fellow South Africans,
It has been some time since we last held a family meeting.
When I last spoke to you, exactly two months ago, South Africa was recovering from a deadly second wave of coronavirus infections.
Then, the number of new daily infections had stabilised at a relatively low level, and we had placed the country on Coronavirus Alert Level 1.
While we continued to urge caution, the low levels of transmission allowed us to ease restrictions on the size of gatherings.
But now, after several months of low transmission, the number of infections has begun to rise sharply in several parts of the country.
We have seen a sustained increase over the last four weeks.
Over the last seven days, we have seen an average of 3,745 daily new infections.
This is an increase of 31 per cent on the previous week, and an increase of 66 per cent on the week before that.
The proportion of COVID-19 tests that are positive has more than doubled in the last month from around 4 per cent to more than 11 per cent, even as we have increased testing across the country.
We are advised that a positivity rate of over 5 per cent is a cause for concern.
The provinces of Free State, Northern Cape, North West and Gauteng have reached the threshold of a third wave of infections.
It may only be a matter of time before the country as a whole will have entered a third wave.
According to our health experts, the recent surge in new infections is due to the increasing number of social gatherings where people are not observing essential health protocols.
These protocols include the wearing of masks, social distancing, ensuring adequate ventilation and limits on the number of people who attend gatherings.
Other sites of increased transmission are funerals and so-called ‘after tears’ parties, as well as camps and sporting activities at schools.
Because rates of infection have been low for some time, and because we are all suffering from pandemic fatigue, we have tended to become complacent.
We have not been as vigilant about wearing our masks all the time, we have not been avoiding crowded places, and we have been socialising more.
As a result, infections are surging again.
The increase in daily cases is following the same trajectory as it did at the start of the previous two waves.
We have seen in other countries the tragic consequences of allowing the virus to spread unchecked.
The Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19 has therefore recommended that the country urgently implement further restrictions to limit the increase in infections.
It bases this recommendation on the sustained increase in new cases in the last 14 days, increased hospital admissions in almost all provinces and an increase in the proportion of COVID tests that are positive.
Further restrictions are necessary to ensure that health facilities are not overwhelmed and that lives that could be saved are not lost.
Delaying the spread of the virus is especially important now to allow as many people as possible to be vaccinated before the third wave reaches its peak.
These recommendations have been discussed at the National Coronavirus Command Council and, earlier today, with Premiers, mayors and traditional leaders in the President’s Coordinating Council.
Based on these discussions, Cabinet has therefore decided that the country will be placed on Adjusted Alert Level 2 with effect from tomorrow.
This means that:
– The hours of curfew will start at 11pm and end at 4am.
– Non-essential establishments like restaurants, bars and fitness centres will need to close by 10pm. This is to allow their employees and patrons to travel home before the start of the curfew.
– All gatherings will be limited to a maximum of 100 people indoors and 250 people outdoors.
Where the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers with appropriate social distancing, then no more than 50 per cent of the capacity of the venue may be used.
This includes religious services, political events and social gatherings, as well as restaurants, bars, taverns and similar places.
Several important measures remain in place.
It remains mandatory for every person to wear a face mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times when in public spaces. It is a criminal offence not to do so.
The owners and managers of public buildings, centres, shops, restaurants, taxis and buses all have a responsibility to ensure that people on their premises or in their vehicles wear masks, and that the appropriate social distancing measures are in place.
If you test positive for COVID-19, you must self-isolate at home for a period of 10 days from when you first developed symptoms.
If you have been in contact with a person who has COVID-19, you must also self-quarantine for a period of 10 days following your exposure, even if you do not show any symptoms.
Identifying and isolating all contacts of a positive case is our best mechanism to prevent the virus from spreading further, and so it is very important that we all obey the rules for isolation and quarantine.
Funerals remain restricted to no more than 100 people, and, as before, night vigils, after-funeral gatherings and ‘after-tears’ gatherings are not allowed.
While the country is headed towards a third wave of infections, we do not yet know how severe this wave will be or for how long it will last.
According to the scientists that advise government, the severity of this third wave will largely be determined by the amount of contact each of us has with other people.
This means that each of us needs to think about all the people we come into contact with each day and do everything we can to limit those contacts.
Sometimes it is unavoidable to be in contact with other people, such as at work or when shopping or in public transport.
In such cases, it is important that we strictly observe all the health protocols by wearing a mask, keeping our distance from others and ensuring proper ventilation.
But wherever possible, we should cut down on our contacts during this time.
That may mean postponing social engagements, avoiding public spaces and not travelling unless absolutely necessary.
Gatherings are the greatest sources of transmission, whether its weddings, funerals, social parties, religious services, political meetings or simply gatherings of family and friends.
We must remember that the virus does not move from place to place by itself; it relies on the movement of people.
The less we travel, the less the virus is spread.
It is especially important to avoid indoor spaces, as the coronavirus is spread through the air when a person speaks, coughs or sneezes.
If you need to meet someone, including a member of your family, it is safer to do so outside in a well-ventilated space.
Those who are at particular risk, including the elderly and those with comorbidities, should exercise caution and should limit their contacts as much as possible.
If each of us makes this effort now, we will help to flatten the curve of infections.
We will reduce the pressure on our hospitals, and, in doing so, we will save many lives.
As we continue to focus on reducing transmission of the virus through our behaviour, we have embarked on the biggest mass vaccination programme in our country’s history.
Two weeks ago, we started the second phase of the vaccination programme, targeting the balance of our health workers who had not yet been vaccinated during the first phase and all those in the country who are over 60 years of age.
This follows the first phase of the programme, in which nearly 480,000 health workers were vaccinated.
More than 67 per cent of public health workers have been vaccinated
These health workers received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which only requires a single dose.
Since the evidence shows that older people are at a far greater risk of severe COVID-19 illness and death, we have prioritised the elderly for this second phase.
Over the last two weeks, over 480,000 people have received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine as part of the public vaccination campaign.
Because the Pfizer vaccine requires two doses to provide maximum immunity, these people will need to have second dose 42 days after their first dose.
In total, over 960,000 people in South Africa have received one vaccine dose.
Within the next few days, we will have administered vaccine doses to more than one million of the most vulnerable South Africans.
It has been heart-warming to see images of our elderly citizens receiving their vaccine, and to read the many stories of kindness and solidarity from those who have visited a vaccination site.
The positive experiences of the rollout so far reflect both the dedication and professionalism of our healthcare workers, and the intense preparation that has gone into ensuring that the rollout is successful.
The Electronic Vaccine Data System forms the backbone of the programme to manage registration and the allocation of vaccines.
The system links people who have registered to a vaccination site near them.
The system enables the national team to monitor vaccine use and to deploy vaccines to where they are needed.
Registration and vaccination of those over 60 years is going well.
We now have over 3 million people registered on the Electronic Vaccine Data System.
Since this is the first time this system is being used, it is understandable that there have been some initial problems, which have inconvenienced people and sometimes caused delays.
Fortunately, these have been attended to quickly and the system is being continually adapted and strengthened as the rollout proceeds.
There are other challenges we are working to address.
A significant number of the elderly have encountered difficulties in registering on the Electronic Vaccine Data System.
This is due to lack of access to the tools need to register online, such as a computer, internet access or mobile phone, or difficulties following the instructions in English.
We are working to get around these problems, and a huge drive to support the elderly to register is underway.
There are four ways that you can register to receive your COVID-19 vaccine:
– By using the online registration platform available on the SA Coronavirus website
– By dialling 134832# and registering via USSD
– By sending the word “register” via WhatsApp to 0600 123 456
– By calling the national toll-free call centre on 0800 029 999, where somebody will help you to register and answer any questions about the vaccination rollout
Each and every one of us can help our parents, our grandparents, or the elderly people in our community to register on the system and get protected.
All of the vaccines that are approved for use in South Africa are safe and effective.
They have carefully been tested in large trials and subjected to a rigorous approval process by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority and by a number of health authorities around the world.
Most importantly, they all provide protection against severe illness or death as a result of COVID-19.
We are continuing discussions with other vaccine manufacturers so that we are able to include different vaccines in our programme.
Some of these manufacturers are in the process of seeking the necessary approvals from our health products authority.
The mass vaccination campaign is a joint effort with all our partners.
There are now more than 400 vaccination sites in operation across the country in both the public and private sectors.
As we have previously reported, we have secured enough vaccines to reach all adults in the country, which is around 40 million people.
This includes 31 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a single dose, and which will be manufactured here in South Africa.
It includes 20 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which requires two doses to provide full protection.
The scheduled delivery of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines has however been delayed due to regulatory issues related to lack of adherence to proper standards at a manufacturing plant in the United States.
We are waiting for these issues to be resolved before the first batch of Johnson & Johnson vaccines can be released from the facility in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.
While this is a challenge that has affected the supply of vaccines for many countries and not just in our country, we are in constant contact with the relevant authorities to ensure that our doses can be released as soon as possible.
Around 1.3 million Pfizer doses have already been distributed and nearly 500,000 administered.
The next 636,000 doses arrive tonight with weekly deliveries of an equivalent volume until end June, when we will receive 2.5 million doses.
Our reliance on the Pfizer vaccine for now has affected the pace at which we are able to open vaccination sites.
Due to the properties of the Pfizer vaccine which requires an ultra-cold supply chain, inclusion of smaller sites and sites in more rural areas is limited.
When the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been cleared, it will be much easier to administer.
It is a single dose vaccine and can be stored in a normal fridge.
While our vaccine rollout ramps up over the coming weeks, I urge everyone to be patient and to await their turn.
It is important that we allow healthcare workers and those above the age of 60 to be vaccinated first, as they are most at risk of severe illness or hospitalisation.
For the time being, only these two groups are eligible to receive a vaccination until the next priority groups are announced.
I would like to thank all of our social partners, including the private sector, labour, community organisations, religious groups and traditional leaders, for coming up with innovative ways to support this drive.
As the African continent we are pushing ahead with efforts to expand our vaccine manufacturing capacity with a view to be self-sufficient in vaccine production.
We are also part of the global effort to ensure that all countries have access to sufficient vaccines as a matter of urgency.
We are continuing to urge all countries to support a waiver of the TRIPS agreement at the World Trade Organisation so that COVID-19 vaccines and treatments can be produced on a greater scale, at lower cost and at a faster pace.
Just as our response to the pandemic has depended on all of us acting together, the vaccine rollout requires a whole-of-society effort to succeed.
Right now, our foremost priority is to scale up our vaccination campaign to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, in every part of our country.
However, we need to delay the increase in infections for as long as we can to allow more of our most vulnerable citizens to be protected.
Every week that we delay the peak of the third wave allows us to vaccinate hundreds of thousands more people, and may well save their lives.
This is why it is crucial for us to act now, and to act together, to limit the spread of the virus by wearing a mask, avoiding gatherings and indoor spaces, keeping a distance from others and washing or sanitising our hands regularly.
With the acceleration of the vaccine programme, we are getting ever closer to overcoming the pandemic.
We cannot give up now. We cannot let down our guard.
It is up to each and every one of us to protect ourselves, our families and our communities until we are all vaccinated.
I ask you to summon your strength, your courage, and your tenacity as South Africans to stand together and to hold back this third wave.
We can and we will succeed, as we have succeeded before.
God bless South Africa and protect her people.
I thank you.

Journalist Jeffrey Moyo was on Monday denied bail for the second time when he appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate.
Moyo, a freelancer for the New York Times, spent the past seven days in jail and has been remanded in custody to 10 June at Bulawayo Prison.
He was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly contravening Section 36 of the Immigration Act through assisting two South African-based New York Times journalists Joao Silva and Christina Goldbaum to fraudulently acquire media accreditation cards.
He is also accused of conniving with Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) employee, Thabang Manhika in committing the offence.
He denies the charge against him.
New York Times spokesperson Nicole Taylor, in a statement emailed to Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), said:
We are deeply concerned by Jeffrey Moyo’s arrest and are assisting his lawyers to secure his timely release. Jeffrey is a widely respected journalist with many years of reporting experience in Zimbabwe and his detainment raises troubling questions about the state of press freedom in Zimbabwe.
Silva and Goldbaum were deported back to South Africa.

WHO Director-General Special Awards for World No Tobacco Day announced: Minister of Health India and University of Bath for exceptional achievement in tobacco control.
Smokers face a 40 – 50% higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19. WHO partners with Viber, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, WeChat and AI company Soul Machines to reach billions with free digital quitting tobacco aids. The World Health Organization’s ‘Commit to Quit’ tobacco campaign has made resources from its Quitting Toolkit freely available to more than a billion tobacco users, less than 5 months into the year-long campaign.
WHO launched the campaign to support those millions of tobacco users who are actively taking steps to save their lives, but still need help to succeed.
The campaign is currently working directly with 29 focus countries. Each country agreed with WHO on selected activities, including, running national awareness campaigns, releasing new digital tools, revising policies, engaging youth, training health workers, opening new cessation clinics, supporting nicotine replacement therapies through WHO partners, establishing national toll-free quit lines, making quitting courses available, and more.
“Smokers have up to a 50% higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19, so quitting is best thing smokers can do to lower their risk from this coronavirus, as well as the risk of developing cancers, heart disease and respiratory illnesses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “We urge all countries to play their part by joining the WHO campaign and creating tobacco-free environments that give people the information, support and tools they need to quit, and quit for good.”
“To help tobacco users to commit to be quitters and winners, we are using digital aids to release the WHO Quit Challenge chatbot and Artificial Intelligence digital health worker Florence, and making advocacy material available in 30 languages,” added Dr Rüdiger Krech, Director Health Promotion, WHO.
The Quit Challenge gives daily notifications of tips and encouragement for up to 6 months to help people remain tobacco free. It is available for free on WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger and WeChat.
Globally, roughly 39% of men and 9% of women use tobacco. The highest smoking rates are currently found in Europe at 26%, with projections only showing a 2% decrease by 2025 if urgent government action is not taken.
Director-General’s Tobacco Control Awards
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has given special recognition awards for tobacco control to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of India, Dr Harsh Vardhan and to the Tobacco Control Research Group at the University of Bath, UK.
Dr Harsha Vardhan was instrumental in the 2019 national legislation that bans E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products (HTPs) in India. The Tobacco Control Research Group in UK has worked relentlessly to expose tobacco industry attempts and tactics to weaken, block or delay tobacco control, thereby helping secure policy change nationally and globally.

By A correspondent- A Vietnamese woman has chopped off her husband’s manhood to stop him from seeing other women
Her husband was reportedly popular with other women and that made her jealous.
In a bid to solve this, she waited for her man to sleep before she took a pair of scissors to cut the 4-5.
According to a local news outlet, VN Express, reported that the wife later drove him and the penis to the hospital where the surgeons tried to attach the 4-5 back to its rightful place.
Surgeons battled to save the poor man’s 4-5.
One of the surgeons, Doctor Nguyen Thanh Tuan told the publication his team was tasked with reconnecting the recovered portion of the manhood.
Dr Tuan said the operation would take them up to six hours to complete. “The manhood is cut with scissors so the doctor has to treat the wound and wash the severed part thoroughly to avoid infection.
“This operation requires the use of special microsurgery glasses and the surgeon must be trained in microsurgery, vascular surgery,” Dr Tuan told the paper.
The medical team reportedly checked on the patient after 10 days and he said: “I feel fine, can walk, eat normally, the area that was cut off is now pink.”
It is also reported that a case was opened against the woman.
By eNCA – President Cyril Ramaphosa has moved South Africa back to Lockdown level 2.
The President announced on Sunday after discussions with the cabinet.
Under the Level 2 restrictions:
It remains mandatory for every person to wear a face mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times when in public spaces. It is a criminal offence not to do so.
The hours of curfew will start at 11 pm and end at 4 am.
Non-essential establishments like restaurants, bars and fitness centres will need to close by 10 pm.
All gatherings will be limited to a maximum of 100 people indoors and 250 people outdoors. Where the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers with appropriate social distancing, then no more than 50 per cent of the capacity of the venue may be used.
Funerals remain restricted to no more than 100 people, and, as before, night vigils, after-funeral gatherings and ‘after tears gatherings are not allowed.
This includes religious services, political events and social gatherings, as well as restaurants, bars, taverns and similar places.
“While the country is headed towards the third wave of infections, we do not yet know how severe this wave will be or for how long it will last,” the President said.
By A Correspondent-The late Oliver Mtukudzi’s works will be feted this weekend at Joburg Theatre in South Africa in a show dubbed “Remembering Tuku” and themed along the lines of Africa Month Celebrations.
Directed by long-time friend Steve Dyer, the show will feature two of Tuku’s daughters, Selmor and Sandra.
Selmor’s album was followed unfortunately, by a lockdown that impacted on playing the music live.
By A correspondent- Police in Karoi has arrested their colleague on allegations of raping an HIV positive and gender-based violence victim.
Shakemore Muzanechita (50), a constable based at Karoi Urban, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Karoi magistrate Godswill Mavenge on May 29.
Muzanechita, whose police force number is 049493K, was represented by Unite Saize of Saize and Associates.
The complainant is a married woman aged 30.
State prosecutor Pazvichaenda Munakira told the court that at around 8 pm last Thursday, the complainant visited Karoi Urban Police Station intending to report a domestic violence case against her husband. She reported the case to the accused, who was manning the charge office.
It is further alleged that instead of recording the matter, Muzanechita took the complainant to her house to arrest the husband, but they failed to locate him.
Munakira said they then decided to look for the victim’s husband at Hwata business centre.
While on the way, Muzanechita allegedly proposed love to the complainant, who turned him down.
He then dragged the complainant to a bushy area near Tafara Primary School in Chiedza and raped her once.
She tried to stop him by telling him that she was HIV positive, but Muzanechita said he did not care, adding that he would use a condom. After the rape, the cop allegedly asked the complainant to accompany him to his residence in Chikangwe suburb, but she refused claiming that she had left her children alone at home.
The next morning, the complainant told her co-tenant about the matter and she was advised to make a police report.
Karoi Urban police officers went to the scene of the crime in the bushy area, where they found a used condom.
During the investigations, it was also discovered that her domestic violence complaint had not been recorded by Muzanechita.

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has launched terror campaigns in Mashonaland East province with the party using its district coordinating committees to force people to vote for President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the 2023 elections.
In 2018, Zanu PF campaigned with party supporters chanting the slogan “ED Pfee”, but now it has been changed to “#2023 Five Million Votes ED Pfee”.
The new slogan and the terror campaign were unveiled yesterday during the party’s Mashonaland East provincial co-ordinating committee meeting held in Marondera.
Addressing the delegates, acting Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Michael Madanha said all party officials were expected to take part in mobilising people ahead of the 2023 elections.
“We are hands-on in mobilising people to join Zanu PF so that we meet the intended targets. As a province we are expected to deliver 800 000 of the needed five million votes,” he said.
“We are past that time where we despise others in the party, rather we need unity. We condemn those with that behaviour of labelling others as belonging to certain factions. We need to unite and fight in harmony to achieve the 2023 election votes.”

By A Correspondent- Some notorious Mazowe war veterans, who invaded a farm belonging to the ex- Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere is reportedly feasting on the oranges which were grown by the fugitive ex-cabinet minister.
Last year, war veterans led by the Mazowe district war veteran chairperson Ephanos Mudzimunyi invaded Kasukuwere’s Concorpia Farm and helped themselves to his harvest, leading to the self-exiled former minister to seek recourse from the courts.
The farm was among those that had been targeted for repossession by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government and yesterday, workers at the farm told NewsDaythat Mudzimunyi had taken control of the 130-hectare farm claiming that he had been allocated the piece of land by the late Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement minister Perrance Shiri.
Mudzimunyi is said to be staying in one of the farmhouses with his family, while production at the farm has been stagnant.
“He is still occupying the farm and says he is not going anywhere. There hasn’t been production here despite that we have a court order and even engaged the Sheriff of court, but nothing has moved,” one of the workers told NewsDay yesterday.
“We did not do anything the whole season and that is a big loss for the farm. Workers are there and they are being paid by Kasukuwere even without doing any work.
“He (the war veteran) is harvesting oranges from the farm and is selling them without the farm owners’ consent.”
Kasukuwere, who is based in South Africa, fled the country in 2017 following the November 2017 military coup that ousted the late former President Robert Mugabe in whose government he served.
He told NewsDay that Mudzimunyi’s actions showed that there was a need for institutions in the country to respect the law.
“The invaders should realise that times have changed and they will not be spared for the damages made on the farm, and we will charge them. Institutions should respect the law. The Sheriff’s office is in serious breach of law in spite of the fact that I have also paid for the removal of the illegal settlers,” Kasukuwere said.
Mudzimunyi was not available at the farm when NewsDay visited the farmhouse that he occupies in order to get a comment from him.
In May last year, Kasukuwere alleged that the illegal takeover of the farm scuttled a US$5 million investment deal with a Dubai-based tycoon.
This prompted him to file an urgent High Court chamber application challenging government’s decision to expropriate part of the farm.
The High Court ruled in his favour, but Mudzimunyi has allegedly continued to harvest export quality oranges on Lot 2, the best part of the vast estate running parallel to the perennial Mazowe River.
Observers have accused the ruling Zanu PF party of using farm invasions to silence its critics.
By A correspondent- A 76-year-old Kuwadzana man committed suicide by hanging himself over alleged neglect by his younger wife and children. Noah Masawu, 76, was found hanging at his house in Kuwadzana Extension by his wife Martha Shoko, 30.
“My husband had differences with his children because they always argued over why he married me when I was 22 years old.
“All his children are older than me and I know that’s where all the problems began because they would say baba matinyadzisa kutora mwana mudiki.
“They didn’t send any money for upkeep and we had nothing to eat or feed our children.
“That’s when I said to my husband, it’s better I take the children with me and go back to my parents since he was not able to fend for the family. “Maybe that’s what has led to him committing suicide because his children had also abandoned him.
“He was talking about hanging himself with a rope and today he took the rope and I just thought it was a joke.
“I even told one of the relatives about it, but they ignored me. “At around 2pm, that’s when I called a neighbour because I was scared to open the door,” Shoko said.
She said when the door was opened, they found him hanging and dead.
“He died because of lack of food, nothing to do with neglect that’s all. “He has left me with four children, including mine, they are all not going to school because we don’t have money,” she explained.

By A Correspondent- The late former Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement minister Perrance Shiri’s name has been mentioned in the violent invasion by a notorious Mazowe war veteran, who invaded a farm belonging to the ex- Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere.

By A Correspondent| Harare North legislator Norman Markham has poked holes into an agreement entered between City of Harare and a controversial land developer Kenneth Raydon Sharpe for the construction of Airport road, a project the justice fugitive got paid with huge amounts of city prime land.
According to answering affidavits filed by Markham in response to an ongoing High Court challenge against the transfer of land to Sharpe, he said the agreement was entered by a caretaker council which ordinarily does not have authority to execute contracts on behalf of the municipality.
A resolution to enter into an agreement with Sharpe’s Augur Investments which Markham exposed as a shelf company was done by a caretaker commission adding that at no time did duly elected councillors approve terms of the Agreement.
“The agreement between the City of Harare and Augur Investments OU concluded in May 2008, was entered into by a body that had no authority to carry out and execute contracts on behalf of a lawfully executed Council. The fact that Minister Chombo appointed a Commission so soon after the 2008 election when councillors where in existence, is an indictment and an unanswerable hurdle against the agreement. It is illegal and void ab initio,” said Markham.
He also demanded that Augur Investments produce its own Resolution to enter into an Agreement with City of Harare.
He also questioned City of Harare’s decision to proceed with the agreements without going to tender which is against the Procurement Act of Zimbabwe.
Markham dismissed Augur Investments claims that everything was above board insisting that it was incontestable that City of Harare transferred huge amounts of land to Sharpe through his numerous satellite companies without following the Urban Councils Act.
He said Augur Investments was a shelf company with different locations and domicile from different countries in Europe to Mauritius and to Zimbabwe.
“On the other hand, it has operated principality through Aleshina Tatiana, Kenneth Raydon Sharpe and Michael John Van Blerk. These are the principals,” said Markham.
Zinedine Zidane has written an emotional letter to Real Madrid fans after resigning as the club’s head coach last week.
Los Blancos announced last week that the decorated Frenchman had asked to leave and they respected his decision, though it was not clear as to why he arrived at that position.
In his letter to ‘Madridistas’, as per AS, Zidane cited lack of support by the club’s hierarchy, as the reason he quit.
Below is the letter;
“I left, but I never jumped off the boat and never got tired of training. In May 2018 I left because after two and a half years of victories and so many titles I felt the team needed a new speech to stay on top.”
“But today things are different, I am leaving because I feel the club is no longer giving me the confidence I need.”
“The club did not support me in building a project now or long term. I know football, I know the requirements of Real Madrid and I know that when you don’t win you have to leave. But here one very important thing has been forgotten, everything that I have achieved.”
“I’ve built relationships on a daily basis, with everyone at the club. I was born to be a winner and I was here to win titles, but there are humans and emotions and lives and I have a feeling that these things weren’t taken care of, even somehow I was blamed. I just wanted to see respect for what we achieved together.”
“I would have liked my relationship with the club and the president in recent months to be a little different. I’m not asking for privileges, of course not, just asking for a memory, for what we achieved.”
“The coach’s career today in any major club will be two seasons, not much longer. In order to last longer, human relations are necessary. This is more important than money, than fame, than everything.”
“It was so painful when I read in the press that I was subject to being sacked upon certain defeats.”
“The news that I would be fired if I lost an upcoming match offended me and the entire team, because these messages were deliberately leaked to the media, creating a negative atmosphere with the staff which aroused suspicion and misunderstanding in the team.”
“I know exactly what the team needs. During these 20 years in Madrid I realized that you as fans want to win and of course we do, but above all they want us to give everything we have as players and as a coach. I can assure you that we gave 100%.”
“I am also using this letter to send a message to journalists. I have held hundreds of press conferences and unfortunately we haven’t talked much about football. I don’t want to give you lessons but I wish the questions asked were not always controversial.”
“Florentino bet on me in 2001 and fought for me to make me come when there were people against this desire. Saying it from my heart, I will always be grateful to the President for that. Now and forever.”
I spent 20 years in Madrid and it is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me in my life and I know that I owe it to Florentino Perez.”
“I’ve always felt that there is something very special between us. I’ve had the great honor of being a player and coach for the most important club in history but above all I’m just a Madridista like all of you.”
“I’m writing this letter for Madridistas. To bid you farewell and to explain my decision to leave my role.”
“When I agreed in March 2019 to return to Real Madrid after a hiatus of around eight months, it was because Florentino Perez asked me to do it of course, but also because you [fans] asked me to do so every day”
“It is good that I have some wonderful guys who were with me to till the end. When things got worse, they saved me with great victories. Because they believed in me and knew that I believed in them.”
“Of course, I am not the best coach in the world, but I am able to give the strength and confidence that everyone needs in their work, whether it’s for the players or workers.”
“I tried to convey the values of Real Madrid in everything, especially to the players who were and will always be the most important in this game. Let’s not forget about football, let’s take care of football.”

Zinedine Zidane has explained the reasons behind his departure at Real Madrid last week.
The Frenchman handed his resignation after the team’s final game of the season agae Villarreal to mark his second departure.
In an open letter to Madrid fans, as published by Spanish outlet AS, the 48-year-old said he left his post after feeling that club president Florentino Perez has lost faith in him.
“I have now decided to leave and I want to properly explain the reasons,” Zidane said in the latter.
“I’m going, but I’m not jumping overboard, nor am I tired of coaching. In May 2018 I left because after two and a half years, with so many victories and so many trophies, I felt the team needed a new approach to stay at the very highest level.
“Right now, things are different. I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term.”
He added: “I understand football and I know the demands of a club like Real Madrid. I know when you don’t win, you have to leave.
“But with this a very important thing has been forgotten, everything I built day-to-day has been forgotten, what I brought to my relationships with the players, with the 150 people who work with and around the team.
“I’m a natural-born winner and I was here to win trophies, but even more important than this are the people, their feelings, life itself and I have the sensation these things have not been taken into account, that there has been a failure to understand that these things also keep the dynamics of a great club going.
“To some extent I have even been rebuked for it.”
Zidane won a total of eleven titles as Real Madrid head coach, but he failed to win a trophy in his last season despite courageously-shrugging off injuries to reach the Champions League semi-final, and took the La Liga battle with eventual winners and City rivals Atletico, right to the wire.
The slump in results strained his relationship with Parez and the gaffer only learned about it through leaked stories to the press.
“I want there to be respect for what we have achieved together,” the coach continued.
“I would have liked my relationship with the club and the president over the past few months to have been a little different to that of other coaches. I wasn’t asking for privileges, of course not, just a little more recollection.
“These days the life of a coach in the dugout at a big club is two seasons, little more. For it to last longer the human relationships are essential, they are more important than money, more important than fame, more important than everything.
“They need to be nurtured. That’s why it hurt me so much when I read in the press, after a defeat, that I would be sacked if I didn’t win the next game. It hurt me and the whole team because these deliberately leaked messages to the media negatively influenced the squad, they created doubts and misunderstandings.
“Luckily I had these amazing lads who were with me to the death. When things turned ugly they saved me with magnificent victories.
Because they believed in me and knew I believed in them. Of course I’m not the best coach in the world, but I’m able to give everyone, whether it’s a player, a member of the coaching staff or any employee, the strength and confidence they need in their job. I know perfectly well what a team needs. Over these 20 years at Madrid I’ve learnt that you, the fans, want to win, of course, but above all you want us to give our all: the coach, the staff, the employees and of course the players. And I can assure you we’ve given 100% of ourselves to this club.”- Soccer24 Zimbabwe
Terrence Dzvukamanja returned to action on Sunday after missing the last two months through injury.
The Zimbabwean forward came on as a second half substitute and played the last eleven minutes of the 1-0 league defeat to TS Galaxy.
The injury was his second in the campaign after sustaining a similar issue in late February.
Dzvukamanja, who has made twenty appearances and scored one goal across all competitions, is now expected to feature in the team’s last two games of the league season as they push to finish in the third place and qualify for the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Pirates are currently fourth on the log standings, tied on 46 points with Golden Arrows who are third due to superior goal difference. They will face Baroka in the penultimate round on Wednesday before wrapping up their campaign against TTM at home.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Hatcliffe Ward 42 Councilor, Elvis Ruzani was arrested by police for clearing a dump site at Matombo area in Hatcliffe and later released without charge.
The youthful Councilor alleged that heavily armed police bundled him into a police truck where he was instructed to stop removing waste without police approval. He further alleged that the police accused him of violating the Covid 19 rules and regulations.
‘I was arrested and thrown into a police truck with armed police officers, I was busy clearing a dumpsite which has become a health hazard to the residents with a forklift and a lorry’, said the youthful councilor.
The incident occurred at a time when last week the Acting Mayor for Harare City Council, Councilor Stewart Mutizwa appealed to the public to help with any resource that can assist the city in clearing dumpsites and refuse collection.
Harare City Council has been grappling with challenges of removing sprouting dumpsites in most suburbs due to non-collection of waste by the local authority caused by a depleted fleet of refuse trucks.
CHRA calls for the immediate stop to the criminalization and monopolization of removing waste, especially in high density areas, where dumpsites have become potential risks of causing waterborne diseases.
The Combined Harare Residents Association condemns selective application and manipulation of the law to suppress freedoms and rights in the constitution under the guise of enforcing COVID Protocols and Guidelines by the law enforcement agencies.

A 76-YEAR-OLD Kuwadzana man committed suicide by hanging himself over alleged neglect by his younger wife and children.
However, neighbours who preferred anonymity sent H-Metro an audio recording by the deceased confiding to them about how his young wife was ill-treating him.
One of them said: “Baba vakauya kune mumwe wedu tika recorder zvese zvavaitaura, taivati sekuru.
“The man died so bitter because of his wife who was neglecting him.
“Masawu told us that he would often be told to go away, they always fought because of upkeep and the wife always threatened him. She is the one who has led to this and it’s fortunate we have it on record,” they maintained.
H-Metro got in touch with the deceased’s son Simbarashe who said he was yet to come to terms with the passing of his father.
“I spoke to him yesterday and I’m really shocked.
“I don’t know what happened and I’m yet to get full details from others,” he said.

By A Correspondent- A 25 year old Tsholotsho man killed his friend after accusing him of stealing his Mobicel cellphone.
Qedamandla Mpala of Gandisa Village under Headman Maduma was yesterday arrested for killing his friend Ernest Ncube (20) over a Mobicel cellphone.
Mpala who always suspected that his friend had stolen his cellphone reportedly asked Ncube on Wednesday last week to accompany him to Bubude Business Centre.
Along the way, Mpala allegedly confronted the now-deceased over the issue but he denied stealing the phone.
Mpala did not believe him, instead, he allegedly threatened to stab Ncube with an okapi knife before hog-tying him.
He went on to cut a switch and repeatedly struck Ncube on the stomach.
When Ncube continued insisting he did not know anything about the missing phone, Mpala allegedly got angry and hit him on the stomach with the back of an axe before raining kicks on him.
An enraged Mpala left his friend tied up.
After a few struggles, Ncube managed to free himself and went home to sleep.
The following day, he started vomiting blood and was taken to Bubude Clinic where he was referred to Tsholotsho Hospital.
The Chronicle reports that Ncube was treated and discharged but died at home that night on Thursday.
Matabeleland North province police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the murder and urged members of the public to solve their disputes amicably.
He also warned that perpetrators of violence will be dealt with.
“Members of the public should never resort to violence whenever a misunderstanding ensues. We urge them to engage third parties such as clergymen, the elderly as well as the Zimbabwe Republic police for arbitration,” he said.

A Shurugwi teacher has offered to pay RTGS$500 maintenance to a woman that he allegedly has a child with arguing that he has several other children at University and he only earns RTGS$20 000.
Noble Pilime who is an Agriculture teacher at Hanke Mission in Shurugwi said he was even having meals at the school dining room because he cannot afford food with his salary. He also has a wife to look after, he said.

Pilime astounded the court when he said he never slept with Mugobogobo. He said that the child must belong too some Police officer who had an affair with Mugobogobo.
He also accused Mugobogobo of creating scenes at the school by coming and insulting him.

“11% reported that it is likely they will have to make redundancies in the next 3-6 months putting a potential 1.85 million jobs at risk across the UK”
Owner managed businesses coming out of the third lockdown are still struggling with the impact of Covid-19 and an uncertain economic outlook:
11% reported that it is likely they will have to make redundancies in the next 3-6 months putting a potential 1.85 million jobs at risk across the UK
24% reported a negative or very negative impact on their business since the UK left the EU
53% of respondents identified uncertain trading conditions as their biggest single challenge
15% cited Brexit supply chain issues as their single biggest challenge
Nonetheless:
84% of respondents reported that they were either confident or somewhat confident that they would be able to access the finance that they needed over the next 6 months with anecdotal evidence suggesting that the major banks were continuing to lend
Longer term 54% were more positive about their economic prospects outside the EU while 46% were less positive
The research among 435 owner managed businesses across the UK was carried out between April and May by the APA, a network of 17 leading business advisory firms who represent over 14,000 of these businesses.
Commenting on the findings APA Chairman Martin Muirhead said:
“What is clear from our research is that a significant minority of owner managed businesses who have managed to pull through the last 12 months are still in survival mode with uncertain trading conditions being the biggest concern to a majority.
“Nonetheless there is also evidence to suggest that those businesses that have managed to weather the impact of Covid-19 are now more resilient and that existing and proposed Government support measures have generally been well received.
“Over the coming months it is vital that Government maintains a flexible and targeted approach to business support focusing resource on those sectors where there is the greatest need. Owner managed businesses form the backbone of the UK economy and need continued, targeted support as we emerge from this third lockdown”
By A Correspondent| Celebrated radio presenter Phathisani Sibanda took a subtle dig at his former paymasters Star FM during the Champions League Breakfast Show on Power FM which he co-hosts with veteran broadcaster Tinashe Chikuse.
Phathisani who is known by several monikers he has coined over the years has assumed another title “Deacon” which is an apparent ‘attack’ on Star FM.
“Ndiri mu Deacon akatiza nevana vesangano (I am a Deacon who ran away with congregants)” Phathisani said referring to former Star FM listeners who have followed him to his current workstation at Power FM.
To buttress his point, the DJ chose Sharon Manyonganise’s song Akatendeka boasting that only God rules his destiny.
“It is only God who will finish what he started in me, not a mere immortal,” he said.
This adds to speculation that Star FM management frustrated out one of their founding DJs who had evolved to be one of the most followed presenters of modern times.
At Star FM, Phathisani was undoubtedly their main man with a huge following and several endorsements.
However, the presenter was frustrated by boardroom squabbles and constant overlooking for promotion which led to his way out.
Phathisani took a hiatus from the public only to resurface at Power FM much to the delight of his avid fans.
Credit to Power FM who managed the coup which has started reaping results if the rave reviews of the Champions Breakfast Show is anything to go by.

First to be arrested on Sunday was Adlight Muunganwa (32) of Chikanga 3 in Mutare and the suspect has been charged with smuggling.
The lorry used by Muunganwa to carry the bales was intercepted at an illegal crossing point at Mary Mount in Mutare, said Chananda.
Recovered from the vehicle were 256 bales of used clothes and 32 of used shoes. On the same day at 9pm, Police manning Forbes Border Post near Mutare were informed of smugglers transporting bales from Mozambique to Zimbabwe and leaving them at a point in a military truck along the border.
Police and ZNA made an ambush and the smugglers fled leaving 32 bales.

By A Correspondent- A jilted 35 year old man reportedly killed his twin brother’s wife for turning down his marriage proposal at Uro-mekaa, a village in the Sawla district of the Savannah Region, Ghana.
The deceased is said to be wife of the twin brother of the suspect Kpeyiri Nieba.
The victim was reportedly preparing shea butter at the farm when she was murdered in cold blood.
Nieba who is already married with four children wanted to marry his late brother’s wife against her will.
Prior to her death, Nieba had allegedly warned the now deceased that she was going to get married to him or no one else, and when he heard the victim had gotten a suitor he followed her to the farm and killed her.
The family of the deceased is still in shock over the heinous crime that was committed by Nieba.
By A Correspondent- A woman from Bulawayo was left nursing some wounds after her husband whom she had busted performing midnight rituals assaulted her.
Thando Moyo woke up to the shock of her life after she saw her husband Trust Sibanda (35) sprinkling hot water around their yard.
After he was busted, Sibanda allegedly went on to assault his wife for questioning him about the midnight ritual.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident to a local tabloid saying;
“I can confirm that a 35-year-old man has been arrested after he beat his wife for questioning him on why he was sprinkling hot water around the yard and inside their matrimonial bedroom,” she said.
According to a source privy to the incident, Moyo got shocked after she woke up in the dead of the night and saw her husband going around the yard holding a jug sprinkling hot water mixed with a concoction.
After that, he reportedly got into their matrimonial bedroom and also sprinkled hot water.
Disturbed by what she was witnessing, Moyo who had only wrapped herself with a towel confronted her husband and accused him of sprinkling a concoction around their yard and that infuriated him.
Sparks flew high as Sibanda manhandled his wife and grabbed her towel and threw it away before bashing her with fists on the face.
Sibanda went a step further and dashed outside the house, brought back a 10-litre container which was full of water mixed with the concoction and poured it on her.
Drenched from the concoction Moyo dashed to a police station and made a report leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
Controversial Australia based former girlfriend to the current Norton legislator Temba Mliswa, Suzan Mutami has announced ambitious plans to run wrestle the Norton constituency seat from her ex-boyfriend Temba Mliswa and has already started a Hashtag titled #2023MaiMatwinsMuOffice.
Mutami who is no stranger to controversy said she will be contesting the Norton seat claiming that the constituency deserves meaningful representation.
In a long Twitter thread, Mutami said she has started mobilizing resources to kickstart development projects for the constituency which she described as having enormous economic potential.
“I’ve been contacted by people saying they are Temba’s emissaries who pleaded with me to take our issues off social media when it is Temba Mliswa himself who originally splashed my nudes and brought the issue on social media.

“His emissaries told me that he is more concerned about his Political brand and not his children whom he has not contributed any single cent towards their preparation. To me all this does not make any sense because a responsible person cannot put politics ahead of his children.
“This has caused me to have thorough Reflections and brought me to the decision of contesting the Norton parliamentary seat in 2023. The people of Norton deserve meaningful and not the current piecemeal development taking place there.

By A Correspondent- A disgruntled 20 year old worker at a mine in Colleen Bawn has been arrested after he stabbed his boss to death with a kitchen knife.
Nelson Ngwenya (55) was stabbed to death by Nqobile Moyo after he dismissed two workers for allegedly stealing explosives at his mine.
Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkhwananzi confirmed the incident which occurred at Heathfield Mine in Colleen Bawn on Tuesday to The Sunday News.
“I can confirm that we recorded a murder case which occurred at Heathfield Mine in Colleen Bawn. The now-deceased who owned the mine, Nelson Ngwenya fired his two workers, Moses Banda (23) and Cuthbert Tshuma (24) for stealing explosives.”
According to the police report, Ngwenya was seated with some of his workers at the mine when Moyo arrived with his two workmates that had been fired and confronted Ngwenya over the matter.
Moyo reportedly went towards a shed that was close to where they were standing and picked up a kitchen knife. Moyo stabbed Ngwenya in the chest and his workmates restrained him.
Unfortunately, Ngwenya died on the spot and his body was taken to the Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, Moyo was arrested while Tshuma and Banda fled from the scene and are still at large.
Asst Insp Mkhwananzi urged members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when faced with disputes. He also appealed to members of the public to report to the nearest police station if they have any information on the two suspects.
“We would also like to appeal to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Tshuma and Banda to contact any nearest police station,” he said.
By A Correspondent- A manhunt has intensified for former Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (Zinara) acting chief executive officer, Moses Julius Juma, who is on the run after losing a High Court appeal against his conviction and sentence on abuse of office charges.
Juma was first arrested in 2016 on charges of abusing his office, but was released after former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko stormed Avondale Police Station and demanded his immediate release.
He was rearrested in 2018, and then tried, convicted and sentenced to 30 months in prison, and was supposed to serve two years in jail after six months were suspended from his sentence.
In a statement on Thursday, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), implored the public to assist with leads on Juma’s whereabouts.
“ZACC is still appealing to the public for information leading to the arrest of fugitive former Zinara acting CEO Moses Julius Juma.
“Anyone with information on his whereabouts to advise ZACC on WhatsApp number 0719529483 or anonymously on zacc.online/tipoffs or landlines 0242307065/6/7 and 0242369602/5/8/14.”
Last week, ZACC national spokesperson Commissioner John Makamure said the anti-graft body was still looking for Juma.
Juma was arrested for hand-picking a tax consultancy company on a contract worth US$500 000 without going to tender as required.
Following his conviction, Juma approached the High Court appealing against his conviction and sentence and was granted $5 000 bail. But after the appeal the High Court upheld his sentence, meaning that he was supposed to serve his prison term.
In a recent statement recently, ZACC said Juma was on the wanted list.
“Moses Julius Juma, former Zinara acting chief executive officer, is a fugitive from justice. He was convicted and sentenced for criminal abuse of duty at the Rotten Row (Harare) Magistrates Court.
“However, he appealed at the High Court against his conviction and sentence. He lost his appeal and has to serve his sentence. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact ZACC on 0719529483 or tip-off line 0242307065-7 or 02422369602/5/8/14,” said ZACC.-statemedia
Former Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere has accused State institutions of failing to enforce the country’s laws after a war veteran leader who led the invasion of his Mazowe farm, last year and harvested his orange produce refused to vacate despite the High Court ordering his eviction.
Last year, war veterans led by the Mazowe district war veteran chairperson Ephanos Mudzimunyi invaded Kasukuwere’s Concorpia Farm and helped themselves to his harvest, leading to the self-exiled former minister to seek recourse from the courts.
The farm was among those that had been targeted for repossession by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government and yesterday, workers at the farm told NewsDay that Mudzimunyi had taken control of the 130-hectare farm claiming that he had been allocated the piece of land by the late Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement minister Perrance Shiri.
He told NewsDay that Mudzimunyi’s actions showed that there was need for institutions in the country to respect the law.
“The invaders should realise that times have changed and they will not be spared for the damages made on the farm, and we will charge them,” Kasukuwere said.
“Institutions should respect the law. The Sheriff’s office is in serious breach of law in spite of the fact that I have also paid for the removal of the illegal settlers.”
Observers have accused the ruling Zanu-PF party of using farm invasions to silence its critics.
Last week, war veteran and businessman Fred Mutanda’s farm in Mutorashanga, Mashonaland West province, was invaded by a group of suspected Zanu-PF youths who said they were not happy with him for “undermining” Mnangagwa by filing papers at the High Court opposing the extension of Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s term of office.
Mutanda last week told NewsDay that he was being accused of working with Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga and Judge President Justice George Chiweshe to undermine the President after he joined the Young Lawyers Association of Zimbabwe in suing government, the Judicial Service Commission, Attorney-General Prince Machaya and Malaba to fight his (Malaba’s) term extension which the courts ruled illegal.
“They (the government) don’t want to be accountable and by doing so, we are betraying what we fought for. You then ask yourself why then did I become a freedom fighter if such things continue to happen 41 years after independence,” Mutanda said.
“They are cowards and now accuse me of teaming up with Vice-President Chiwenga and Judge President Chiweshe in the application they say was undermining the President. I don’t even speak to those people and have never even met them for a cup of tea.”
By Nomusa Garikai- “What will make voter registration different this time around if it did not make a difference in other elections.
Has it become generic to be part of the exercise to register; go to the elections and lose; cry foul that the elections have been lost therefore no legitimacy for Mnangagwa government?” asked Nomazulu Thata
“It is a farce to talk about reversing laws that would have been democratic if that very democracy has never existed in the first place. You (Chief Ndiweni) say you have found a ray of light in your roadmap code: “MyRight2Vote” in your rallying call. I fail to come to terms with the fact that you genuinely think that Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF will be ousted by elections?”
These are all pertinent issues Zimbabweans have ignored for many moons and we are all paying dearly for our folly. Thank you very much Nomazulu for forcing the nation out of our sloth-like slumber to deal with these matters now before it is too late.
MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms; the pre-requisite for free, fair and credible election; during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Mugabe bribe them with the trappings of high office and with their snouts in the feeding trough Tsvangirai and company forgot all about the reforms. They failed to implement even one token reform in five years.
Ever since the GNU debacle, MDC leaders with the encouragement of the Zanu PF apologists and double agents have been selling their naïve and gullible followers that the opposition can win rigged elections. “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” boasted Chamisa before the 2018 elections. All nonsense, of course.
The 2023 elections are rigged in Zanu PF’s favoured already! 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora have, once again, been denied the vote. 5 million voted in 2018 and so the 3 million in the diaspora constitute 3 out 8 or nearly 40% denied the vote. What stringent measures will Chamisa have to reverse something that is already done, a fait accompli.
President Mnangagwa had time to pass the two constitutional amendments changing over 30 sections of the constitution to consolidate Zanu PF’s dictatorial strangle hold on power. The regime did not have time to add a clause in the electoral law to enable 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora to register and vote.
The regime welcomes the diaspora’s generous remittance contributions but cannot abide giving them a meaningful say in the governance of the country.
“MyRight2Vote”, yeah tell that to the 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora.
Chief Ndiweni must know the political significance of President Mnangagwa giving away the first batch of Twin-cab Isuzu trucks to the country’s 270 chiefs. He knows this is a down payment to the chiefs who will then flex their muscle to make sure the majority of voters in their area vote Zanu PF without failure.
President Mnangagwa has already started mobilizing the war veterans and the youth militia, the party’s tried and tested foot soldiers, who would be deployed to step up the harassment and intimidation of the rural voters if they dared to defy the party’s orders. The party is geared to carry out the wanton violence of 2008 if need be!
MDC leaders know that by participating in these flawed elections they are giving credibility to the process and, by extension, giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF. They have soldiered on and participated regardless for one reason and one reason only (the same reason that stopped them implementing reforms during the GNU) – greed.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” admitted David Coltart in his book.
“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
Robert Mugabe and now Mnangagwa have known that as long as MDC leaders continue to participate in flawed elections, Zanu PF’s legitimacy will be assured. And as bait to guarantee the opposition’s participation; the dictators offered a few gravy train seats, a portion of the annual Political Party Finance Act pay-out and, a Mnangagwa addition, a Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) to buy off Zanu PF’s political critics’ silence. “Vhara muromo!” as one would say in Shona.
It is clear why Zanu PF has ignored all demand to implement any democratic reforms. Why would the party concede to reforms and risk losing power when, by exploiting MDC leaders’ greed and the electorate’s naivety, it is guaranteed of legitimacy no matter how flawed and illegal the process got.
“The constitutional amendments are made daily to consolidate Mnangagwa’s dictatorship. Out of nowhere HRH Chief Ndiweni comes up with a political slogan “MyRight2Vote” and he calls this a “game-changer” in the 2023 election campaign,” Nomazulu pointed out.
With the 3 million in the diaspora denied the vote, the rural voters cowed into submission, etc. it is no exaggeration to say Zanu PF has rigged the 2023 elections in advance. The elections are, indeed, done and dusted. It is naïve to participate in an election process whose outcome is already done and dusted hoping for a different outcome but only to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!
If the people of Zimbabwe allow themselves to be conned into participating in the 2023 elections and give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy for another five more years of this corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship, then the nation deserves to suffer the consequences. No one can ever say they were not warned it is insane to keep hoping to win rigged elections!
By A Correspondent | INVESTIGATIVE | The below is a trail of event twists that involved high profile ministers caught between two scandals, one on the sale of stands, and one of trappings using a self proclaimed anti-terrorism expert, Susan Mutami.
It was all triggered when earlier in the year, the Special Anti Corruption Unit head, Thabani Mpofu was close to arresting Local Govt Minister, July Moyo over the alleged sale of stands in Harare, Kwekwe and Gweru for his own benefit.
There were several beneficiaries listed on this reported scandal who are in the ministry of Justice; so to hide this, a quick plan was hatched to get Mpofu fired.
Owen Ncube
Mpofu, who leads the controversial taskforce, was swiftly accused of authoring letters for MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti advising the opposition icon on ways if navigating through the justice system.
Close sources allege that, when this was about to happen, the Norton MP Temba Mliswa went over to president, Emmerson Mnangagwa to advise him to ignore the calls to fire Mpofu, doing this in order to settle scores with the enemy of an enemy (Mliswa had heard that Thabani Mpofu had been set up by July Moyo, Owen Ncube, and Virginia Mabhiza). Mliswa has had several bones to chew with Thabani Mpofu. Mliswa reasoned with Mnangagwa saying: how could Thabani Mpofu author letters for MDC Deputy President Tendai Biti in this age and time when he could simply pick a phone call.
–
Parallel to all this, Temba Mliswa was the subject of an ongoing probe in which he was entangled with an ex girlfriend Susan Mutami.
–
Facts became clear mid February that, Susan Mutami, the centre of the axis, was used to incriminate Mliswa.
–
Mutami is an enigma. She claims she bedded the late SB Moyo, Killer Zivhu, Temba Mliswa. She is even openly announces saying she has bedded the President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
–
She says she has Mliswa’s twins, while at the same time naming her son after his arch enemy, Owen Ncube.
–
5 LOVERS, 2 PREGNANCIES TO 2 DIFFERENT MEN, ALL IN ONE YEAR–
Last year alone she dated at least four different men who include the Foreign Affairs Minister SB Moyo, one after the other:Susan Mutami’s latest profile picture – source: Susan Mutami, Twitter.com
Polite Kambamura, the Mining Deputy Minister (they were engaged). Walter Chikwana, Secretary for the Judicial Commission (they had a civil partnership in 2020), and ZANU PF MP, Hon Kenneth Musanhi (see pictures).
–
Furthermore, an affidavit seen by ZimEye states in addition that she was already pregnant way before bedding Mliswa last year.
–
The affidavit, certified by the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), shows that as at around March 2020, she was still engaged to another man, who works inside the JSC, Mr Walter Chikwana.
–
The man was reached for a comment but wouldn’t speak or respond to questions.
–
Meanwhile, the affidavit states that Mutami was carrying a pregnancy to another man at the end of March 2020. In the affidavit, her boyfriend, Mr Chikwana says:
+
‘ I am Susan Vivian Mutami’s partner and in case of emergency I can be contacted on the above mentioned address or on my mobile number, +263772***********”
–
He then goes on to say he is the legal guardian of SB Moyo’s Child (full name redacted-in accordance with the Children’s Act on the paper).
–
” I am also the legal guardian of (name withheld), and our unborn child as of date. Attached hereto is a copy of my identification.”
–
The affidavit was signed on the 24th March 2020.
Affidavit
The development puts burden on Mutami to explain the timing drama surrounding her two pregnancies (to different men) which are within months of each other.
–
She also says that she is the holder of two Australian degrees of which she has none, and also makes false claims that she is the winner of Australia’s CEO awards. During interviews with Mutami, ZimEye reveals how that her claims to university courses are baseless.
–

Asked to state which universities issued her 2 degrees, Susan Mutami says: the @AusEmbZim performed all verification checks. She says: "There is no way a whole embassy would just leave and accompany me to go and donate, and hand out donations without doing proper checks on me…" pic.twitter.com/deBmXUv4St
She is also put to task on her CEO Awards claim, and it is revealed that she was only a passerby at the function who posed in front of a camera holding someone else’s award. (SEE RGM INTERVIEW BELOW)
Her ex lover, Mliswa has maintained his allegations that he was set up by the Central Intelligence Organisation in order to incriminate him using Susan Mutami.
After all this she is lawfully stopped while trying to leave the country, and then she is put under the custody of the Central Intelligence Organisation.
Mutami is held for possessing details on the attempted assassination of the president and killing of three aides at the White City Stadium, then she is whisked out by two powerful ministers who have close links to the president, July Moyo (local governments), Owen Mudha Ncube, minister of state security. After being whisked out without knowledge of the mother body of the CIO, she then starts to attack to the Director General of the CIO, who she claims she once dated, then threatening to release secret information on the cabinet, Politburo and a number of other official secrets, while on the same tweet, absolving the two ministers, July Moyo and Owen Mudha Ncube.
At this time, July Moyo is under investigations for parceling out land, a case being probed by Thabani Mpofu’s SACU organisation.
July Moyo is very close to permanent Secretary Mrs Virginia Mabhiza and Kumbirai Hodzi, the prosecutor General. At the same time, Thabani Mpofu’s SACU is having clashes with the Prosecutor General. There was a collusion between the Prosecutor Gen and July Moyo to get Thabani Mpofu fired. The PG and July Moyo then approached the president Emmerson Mnangagwa to pass allegations that Thabani Mpofu has advised Biti.
The event trail is as follows:
Thabani Mpofu is accused of writing WhatsApp letters to MDC Alliance MP Tendai Biti giving him advice on how to return to parliament, and this makes the president very angry. At this time, Mnangagwa has also been told by Perm Sec Virginia Mabhiza, and Prosecutor Gen Kumbirai Hodzi, to ignore the request to arrest Minister July Moyo on land fraud.
Mnangagwa then summons Thabani Mpofu to State House where he is dressed down. It is reported that Mpofu has been fired. ZimEye contacts Mpofu who tells this news network, it’s not true at all. Are you my employer?, Mpofu fires a question while answering to the report.
Soon afterwards, Temba Mliswa who is naturally against Mpofu, comes to the rescue of Mpofu to tell the President that Mpofu has been set up. Thabani Mpofu also gets support of the CIO DG Isaac Moyo. This angers July Moyo who together with Owen Ncube sponsor Susan Mutami to tweet ‘some dirt’ on Isaac Moyo while absolving July Moyo and Owen Ncube publicly, on the Twitter website.
State security sources report saying Mutami was whisked out of Zimbabwe through the Beitbridge Border post. ZimEye requests paperwork to confirm that the escape was truly through that border post. No date is provided, but by end of April 2021, she is now safely in Australia.
Both Owen Ncube and July Moyo are contacted for a comment, and their phones are put down soon after hearing the interview questions.
Responding to the state security reports, Mliswa denies ever approaching Mnangagwa to assist Mpofu. He tells ZimEye: “Mpofu, Matanga, Mudha, July Moto, and Ziyambi Ziyambi are all one and the same, working hand-in-hand.”
It surfaces that Mutami is an agent of July Moyo and his team to settle their matters with Director General, Isaac Moyo. Thabani Mpofu then suddenly comes out the victim of the two warning camps.
The development has raised questions on how safe Zimbabweans are when ministers and two officials are using a woman to settle their personal scores. Is Zimbabwe is being run by people controlled by bottom power, or is it that Susan Mutami has some ability to capture all these people, or she is so dazzling to control the nation’s top government officials?
By A Correspondent- The ruling Zanu PF party has begun to popularise its new slogan in preparation for the 2023 elections.
In 2018, Zanu PF campaigned with party supporters chanting the slogan “ED Pfee”, but now it has been changed to “#2023 Five Million Votes ED Pfee”.
The new slogan was unveiled yesterday during a Mashonaland East provincial co-ordinating committee meeting held in Marondera.
Addressing the delegates, acting Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Michael Madanha said all party officials were expected to take part in mobilising people ahead of the 2023 elections.
“We are hands on in mobilising people to join Zanu PF so that we meet the intended targets.
Zanu PF is already in an election mode, and is in the process of reviving district structures.-newsday

By A Correspondent- The number of Covid-19 positive cases at Bondolfi Teachers College in Masvingo has risen to 116.
The institution which has over 300 students has been put under strict lockdown measures and surveillance to contain the spread of the virus into surrounding communities.
Masvingo Covid-19 Taskforce spokesperson Mr Rogers Irimayi told Sunday News that the situation at the college had been contained and the health personnel were making sure there is no movement of those who have tested positive.
“Yesterday we recorded 13 new cases and the number at the institution rose to 116 and that is the situation that we have as Masvingo.
“The situation, however, has already been contained, students have been separated. We now have others in quarantine and others in isolation. “The health personnel at the moment are on the ground ensuring that there is no movement of those that are infected and also we are having restricted monitoring of movement in which no visitors are allowed at the institution.
“Parents of students at the schools are not allowed to visit their children,” he said.
Bondolfi Teachers College was on Thursday declared a hotspot area and all the students have been put on 14-day quarantine and no visitors are allowed in the school premises.
Meanwhile, Mr Irimayi said they were happy with the uptake of the Covid-19 vaccines.
“We are happy with the way people are responding, there are quite a several people who are going for vaccination. As you can see we are having stocks running out which is a good sign that there is a high uptake of the vaccines.”
By A Correspondent- Zanu PF Mazowe District Coordinating Committee secretary for production Tichaona Chawana said there was an urgent need by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to reform the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Addressing residents in Mvurwi at the weekend Chawana said the police have become more devious than actual thieves.
“We no longer have a police force in Zimbabwe. The police officers have become thieves themselves. Recently at Mvurwi hospital there was a series of theft cases but the police were reluctant to act,” fumed Chawana.
“We hear the x-ray machine was stolen and no action was taken by the police, last time council officials swindled millions of dollars from home seekers and they took time to act only to move when a ZANU official happens to be the chairperson of the council stepped in.”
“ZANU PF is supreme we should police our area because we do not have the police,” he added.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) has fired its staffer for hosting two foreign journalists.
“On May 10 2021, the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) learnt of the deportation from Zimbabwe of a man and a woman claiming to be New York Times reporters and carrying forged accreditation cards and receipts which they reportedly said had been obtained on their behalf by Mr Jeffrey Moyo, at the time a properly accredited local reporter for the same New York Times.
“The arrest and deportation of the two individuals arose from the fact that they lacked papers which in terms of the law they were supposed to obtain as a prerequisite for obtaining temporary local accreditation as journalists,” ZMC said in a statement.
Investigations by the media accrediting body revealed that the names of the two journalists did not appear in the ZMC register. “The accreditation card numbers and receipts representing proof of payment for accreditation were forged.
“The two individuals had not visited the ZMC offices. “The two individuals had written to the relevant authorities to seek the prior clearance papers required before one can work locally as a journalist on a temporary assignment.
“The relevant authorities had denied the two individuals the prior clearance,” read the statement.
The two journalists that had initially been denied accreditation later presented forged accreditation cards.
“It was also alleged that after recognising the initial irregularity, Mr Jeffrey Moyo privately approached a ZMC staffer who also allegedly agreed to collude with Mr Moyo and his now deported guests.
“It was alleged therefore that the two individuals claiming to be New York Times reporters, their host and colleague Mr Jeffrey Moyo, and the ZMC staffer (now on forced leave) knew that they were breaking the law,” ZMC said.
The organisation said its day-to-day operations were guided by provisions of the law.
“The Commission does its work in a transparent and accountable manner.
“The fact that the fraudulent accreditation cards were quickly identified by immigration officers and confirmed as fraudulent by the ZMC is the testimony of the professional and secure manner in which the ZMC conducts the accreditation,” read the statement. Moyo is in police custody.

“The culture of leaving is important and must be upheld in offices of public trust and senior government officials in [permanent] secretaries, ministers, parastatal bosses, the registrar general, clerk of Parliament and even the judiciary.”

Tinashe Sambiri|Residents of Whange Central Constituency are not happy with the invasion of their territory by Chinese investors.
The residents want to be involved in development initiatives in their area.
The residents expressed their views at a public hearing that was hosted by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Environment and Climate.
The meeting was held in response to a petition that was submitted to the Parliament of Zimbabwe by the Dinde Residents Association.
See statement below:
Office of the MP Salutes Dinde Residents
Yesterday, as the Office of the MP for Whange Central constituency we attended the public hearing that was hosted by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Environment and Climate.
The meeting was held in response to the petition that was submitted to the Parliament of Zimbabwe by the Dinde Residents Association
As the Office of the MP we observed the following among other issues:
There was a very good attendance since the local residents turned out in their large numbers
The local residents were very peaceful and conducted themselves in the most civil and dignified manner
The local residents did they best to articulate their concerns in the most rational manner
The local residents spoke almost entirely with a single voice. There was a visible sense of common purpose and unity
The local residents made it clear that they are not against any investors or development but they are simply unhappy at the lack of respect and inclusion in the process. Consultation or participation of the local communities was a very essential factor.
We thus hope that the Portfolio Committee and indeed the Parliament of Zimbabwe will in response; do its best to intervene in favour of the local communities of Dinde.
We are looking forward to seeing the Portfolio Committee report especially its recommendations on the way forward.
As the Office of the MP, we would like to congratulate the Dinde of residents and honour them for their clarity and courage.
May God bless the people of Dinde and indeed the rest of Whange Central constituency. Amen
By my hand
Daniel Molokele MP for Whange Central constituency
