On Friday morning Gweru woke up to the news of a frenzied gun attack, in which prominent car dealer Peter Dube (35) shot and killed his second wife’s alleged lover, Shelton Chinhango, also a car dealer based in Kwekwe and her friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe (30).
He also shot and injured his second wife, Nyasha Nharingo (31) and her sister Nyaradzo (34). Nyaradzo’s 16-year-old daughter, who witnessed the horrific incident said she and her cousin, a toddler, who is Dube’s son with Nyasha, survived death by a whisker after he attempted to fire the gun at them only to be refrained by Mudungwe. She narrated the ordeal to Sunday News yesterday.
“One of the shooting victims, Nyaradzo Nharingo is my mother and Nyasha is her sister. On the day of the shooting, my mother, my aunt and their friends went to Masvingo to collect my mother’s passport. She wanted to fly to South Africa on Friday where she was supposed to assume duty on a new job she had got. Dube came home and locked the door. He then told me that we were going to Senga and he also fired the maid and gave her, her salary. I then informed my mother around 8pm and they said they were in Mvuma on their way back,” she said.
“When my mother and my aunt arrived in the company of their friends, they asked me to tell Dube to open the door but he refused. He told me to pack all our belongings and leave. My mother started shouting at him and demanded that he opens the door for me to get out.
“My mother then told him that they were going to call the police. His first wife also arrived. She said Dube had lied to her saying that he was going to Kadoma to attend to a breakdown and took US$50 which he used to pay the maid.
When my mother went to the police station, he then chucked me out of the house. This was around 10pm,” she said.
She said when the police arrived and found the children outside, they assumed that the situation was under control and left. However, Dube continued to refuse to open the door for the women to get their clothes.
“Dube refused to open the door. His first wife then called his brother Advance Dube informing him about the issue.
Advance managed to convince his brother to open the door. My aunt then started packing and went into the car which was waiting for us downstairs. My mother then went back to collect her bag as well,” she said.
The 16-year old said Dube suddenly went berserk and shot the alleged boyfriend Chinhango, Mudungwe, Nyasha and Nyaradzo.
“Dube then came down the stairs running and went into his car and took a pistol. He then came to the Toyota Haice that we were in and confronted the driver (Shelton) accusing him of snatching his wife. He cocked his gun and shot the driver on the head. I then opened the door and ran away. He then pointed the gun at me but my mother’s friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe restrained him. He then turned on her and shot her on the chest. He went upstairs and shot my mother and my aunt. After that I saw the maid coming downstairs screaming for help,” she said.
The two sisters who are battling for life at Gweru Provincial Hospital are said to have undergone a lifesaving surgery yesterday. Dube is still on the run but sources said he contacted his friend and police later on Friday and promised to hand himself over. Acting Midlands police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said police were still looking for him.
By A Correspondent-At least 450 MDC-T senior executives have deserted the Douglas Mwonzora and rejoined the original MDC-Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa.
These executives defected to MDC-T during the Thokozani Khupe era.
This came out last week in Gwanda when the former MDC Alliance Matabeleland South chairperson Watchy Sibanda, who had defected to the MDC-T then led by Thokozani Khupe, was re-admitted into the Nelson Chamisa party last week.
Sibanda resigned from the Mwonzora-led party.
At a meeting held in Gwanda, the Matabeleland South MDC Alliance provincial executive also welcomed back about 450 members, who had followed Sibanda to MDC-T.
Ntando Ndlela, MDC Alliance Matabeleland South spokesperson, told The Standard that Sibanda had brought with him the whole district leadership of MDC-T in Matobo North.
“Edmore Nkomo, a former leader of our party, who went with Khupe, has come back and almost all of those who went away with him in Insiza district are back.
“The Chamisa-led party is growing big here and we are so excited.”
Another bigwig who had gone with Khupe, Mbiyezwe Nare, has also re-joined MDC Alliance in Gwanda district, Ndlela said.
“We welcome home all these comrades. MDC Alliance is home for all who seriously want a better Zimbabwe,” he added.
“We are getting ready to take over power from the failed government of Zanu PF.”
He claimed that people in Matabeleland were “fast seeing that Mwonzora and Khupe are a Zanu PF project”.
Ndlela challenged Mwonzora to try and have a meeting or mini rally in Matabeleland if he wanted to see that he has no followers in the region.

By James Gwati-The bankrupt Grain Marketing Board has deployed its security officers at all police roadblocks throughout the country where they are looking for trucks carrying maize bought from farmers.
GMB, through statutory instrument 145/2019 is the sole buyer of maize grain from farmers.
The repressive regulations make it an offence for anyone to be found with more than five 50kg bags of maize grain.
GMB pays farmers in local currency which never comes fears that farmers could bypass them and sell their produce to millers who pay in instant foreign currency.
GMB claims that it has so far bought than 6 000 tonnes of maize from farmers this year.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is allegedly under pressure from Zanu PF bigwigs to act on his trusted corruption buster Tabani Mpofu whom they accuse of extortion.
Mpofu is the head of the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (Sacu), which is housed in the president’s office.
According to sources, Mnangagwa was last week given a dossier that contained allegations that Mpofu and his Sacu were extorting prominent businesspeople targeted for arrest on suspicion of committing various crimes.
One of them is Pedzai Sakupwanya, also known as Scott, who was allegedly made to pay an unknown sum of money to have his case swept under the carpet.
Sacu allegedly arrested a Chinese national only identified as Mr Foi who was working with Sakupwanya at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga.
The mine was at the centre of a dispute between Sakupwanya’s Betterbrands and Probadek Investment, whose directors include Patricia Mtombgwera and Grant Chitate.
Sukupwanya and Foi were being accused of fraud, but the case was allegedly “killed” by the Sacu team.
However, it is a case involving a tycoon from Manicaland where Sacu investigators allegedly demanded payment for cover-up, which incensed Zanu PF bigwigs in the province.
Defence minister Oppah Kashiri is said to have blown the lid on the alleged extortion attempts by the Sacu investigators after she was informed by Chipinge South MP Enock Porusingazi.
Kashiri is said to have met Mnangagwa over the matter.
Initially Porusingazi was vague about his involvement in the matter.
“I have never met Tabani myself, but if your story glorifies that I exposed corruption, then I have no issue with that,” he said.
“At least it helps show the world that corruption can be fought.”
After two days, Porusingazi sent a text message saying: “I never dealt with the Sacu guys at all.”
Mpofu told The Standard that he was not aware of corruption allegations against him.
“I am not aware of the subject you are talking of,” he said.
Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba said reports that Mpofu had been reprimanded by the president were mere “fabrications”.
“Those are mere fabrications making rounds on social media,” Charamba told The Standard.
“The Special Anti-Corruption Unit is an important institution on issues of accountability and transparency, hence the citizens would have been advised of any changes in the unit.”
Sacu has been accused of only targeting Mnangagwa’s opponents while turning a blind eye to corruption by those close to the ruling party and government.

Simiso Mlevu, a spokeswoman for the Center for Natural Resource Governance, a Zimbabwe environmental and human rights advocacy group, said the decision to allow elephant hunting was “appalling.”
“We strongly condemn trophy hunting — a practice that agitates wild animals and escalates human-wild life conflicts,” Mlevu said.
“It is almost certain that surviving families of wildlife families that witness the senseless gunning down of their family members mete out vengeance on the hapless local villagers,” Mlevu said.
“Contrary to government arguments that trophy hunting is meant to assist with conservation, the practice is motivated by greed and often the money is not even accounted for. There is a need for more innovative and eco-friendly measures to improve revenue generation from photo safaris and tourism in general,” added Mlevu.
Zimbabwe is not alone in the region in allowing elephant hunting for a fee, in December, Namibia put 170 “high value” wild elephants up for sale due to drought and an increase in elephant numbers.

This was revealed by Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri when she consoled families of the crash victims this Saturday.
An emotional moment filled the Senyere family homestead hours after an Air Force of Zimbabwe helicopter crash in the Hukuru Area in Acturus that claimed the life of their young daughter along with two pilots and a technician.
In these painful moments, Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Honourable Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri extended a consoling shoulder to the family following their loss.
Allow me to pass my heartfelt condolences following the passing on of your child.We are with you during this very difficult time as it is not easy to lose a child as young as 1 1/2 years old.Please do not lose hope,said Min Muchinguri as she consoled the family.
The delegation, which included Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), Air Marshal Elson Moyo, toured the crash site which is now the mirror of a fatal moment that robbed the nation.
Government will bear all the burial costs, according to a statement issued by the Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister.
Minister Muchinguri- Kashiri also consoled the Manyowa family following the death of Group Captain Tinashe Manyowa, one of the pilots who perished in the crash.
She also consoled the Mapiye family following the death of Anita Mapiye, the co-pilot on the fateful day.
The Minister also extended her condolences to the Chikamhi family following the death of Tinodaishe Chikamhi who worked as a technician in the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

Zanu Youth League indigenisation and empowerment secretary, Cde Mike Chimombe, was on Friday appointed president of the indigenous business lobby group Affirmative Action Group (AAG) at an annual general meeting held in the capital.
He will be deputised by entrepreneur-cum-preacher Passion Java, Ms Anastancia Ndhlovu, Mr Munyaradzi Kashambe and Mr Mabutho Moyo.
Clifford Hlupeko will assume the role of secretary-general, while Mr Scott Sakupwanya is the treasurer-general. Ari Goldenstein will be in charge of communications and advocacy, while Mr Tafadzwa Musukume will be the legal advisor.
The Herald’s managing editor Ruth Butaumocho was appointed national executive member in charge of media advisory services. In his acceptance speech, Cde Chimombe, who previously served as AAG’s president for Mashonaland West, praised President Mnangagwa for bringing the indigenisation and black empowerment agenda back on track.
“I am glad that the empowerment agenda has been revived. Undoubtedly, with a team with the experience, skills and zeal that we have, we will galvanise the youth, women and other stakeholders to His Excellency’s call for production as we move to support National Development Strategy 1,” he said.

Netsai Marova, one of the three MDC Alliance ladies allegedly abducted by suspected state security agents last year was yesterday denied access to see the incarcerated duo of Joana Mamombe and Cecelia Chimbiri who are being held at Chikurubi maximum prison.
According to Marova, the prison officer at the gate told her that there was an instruction that they should only be visited by one person per day.

By A Correspondent- A 39 year old Japanese man has been arrested on fraud charges after he reportedly dated over 35 women at the same time as a strategy to receive birthday gifts.
The accused, Takashi Miyagawa, a part-time worker, is being investigated for allegedly defrauding dozens of women by pretending he was serious about each of their relationships and receiving hundreds of pounds worth of gifts from them.
The Japanese international was apparently caught out when the women joined forces to create a victims’ association after discovering his extensive infidelity and reported him to the police.
It is alleged that Migawa gave each woman a different date for his birthday to ensure that he would constantly receive birthday gifts all year round.
One 47-year-old woman reportedly thought his birthday was on February 22, another aged 40 was told it was July, while another 35-year-old believed his birthday was in April.
According to local media, Migawa allegedly received a total of around 100 000 yen (£668) worth of gifts from the women, including a £200 suit.-Independent
By A Correspondent- A speeding motorist Kasimogau Onisimo died after a Toyota Runex he was driving veered off the road, hit a telephone pole before overturning twice at the 34 kilometer peg along Mvurwi Kanyemba highway.
The incident left five passengers seriously injured.
The 28-year-old driver from Katsiru village Guruve died upon admission at Guruve hospital after he broke his neck.
Mashonaland Central police deputy police spokesperson Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the accident.
“I can confirm a fatal accident in Guruve where the driver died and five others were seriously injured and are admitted at Guruve hospital,” Dhliwayo said.
Onisimo who was driving his Toyota Runex registration number AEQ 1173 failed to negotiate a curve and hit a telephone pole before his car overturned twice.
By A Correspondent- Simbarashe Dehwah (26), an employee with Population Services International (PSI) in Gweru has been slapped with a 12 months’ jail term after he allegedly grabbed a security guard’s private parts.
Dehwa tried to entice Partson Mazo, a security guard at Cabs to have sex when he found him guarding the property at around 10pm on March 27, 2021.
He asked the complaint to remove his mask, jacket and hat. The accused also dropped his mask. Dehwah then asked to spend the night with the complainant.
As he was asking for a night together, Dehwah then grabbed the complaint’s private parts twice and pleaded for sex. The complaint tricked Dehwah into going to the other side of the Bank where he knew he would find his workmates.
The complainant together with the workmates apprehended Dhewa and handed him over to the police.

By A Correspondent- A four year old boy drowned in an unprotected well in Fula compound, Bindura yesterday.
Trust Sanco (4) was left home alone by her mother Abigail Peyiyo (33) who had gone to the tuckshop when tragedy struck.
The deceased fell into the well while following his eleven-year-old brother who was herding goats close to their home.
Witnesses told Bulawayo24.com that the boy was found floating in the well by his elder brother.
Mashonaland central deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case and urged parents to ensure the safety of their children.
“Children must be always under the care and guidance of mature people at all time.” ,he said.
Exactly six months after he died tragically, Mgcini “Cal_Vin” Nhliziyo’s mother still has a lot of unanswered questions about the night that claimed the life of her son, while simmering tensions with his girlfriend, who recently gave birth to a baby boy, have exploded into full conflict.

So fraught have been relations between mother, Sinikiwe Luphahla and Michelle Maphosa, who looked set to be her daughter-in-law until the rapper’s demise on 25 October last year, that she ordered the removal of her son’s name from a poster advertising a baby shower for the child before he was born, as she objected to the hosting of the event and the venue where it was supposed to be held.
The gig was set to take place at Emakhandeni Cricket Club, the same joint that the rapper was coming from the night he lost his life just a stone’s throw away from his own home.
“I asked them if they had ever seen a baby shower in a bar?” the late rapper’s mother asked while in conversation with media personality Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda.
“They said that they were doing it there because Cal_Vin loved the place. I asked them to take my son’s name out of the poster they were advertising on social media. I gave him that name on my own and I don’t want it used for a baby shower held at Cricket Club. It was too soon after my son’s death for a baby shower anyway. They could have done a baby welcome instead. They then changed and used a different name and said ‘we won’t use your son’s name’. Such things make us question if this person was really carrying Mgcini’s child,” she said.
Luphahla said relations with her would-be daughter-in-law had broken down, with Michelle accusing the rapper’s family of wishing death upon her. At the time of his death, Cal_Vin had one other child, Khloe, with another woman.
“She sends disrespectful messages to my sister in Famona asking why we refused to let her have a baby shower.
“That child is just disrespectful. She was saying she could tell we don’t love her and we probably wished that she and the child would die while she was giving birth. So, we can’t say we know if that was Cal_Vin’s child for sure. She never showed any heartbreak about his death,” she said.
The animosity between Luphahla and Michelle seems to stem partly from the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death half-a-year ago. According to the rapper’s mother, the events of 25 October still need to be unravelled if she is to get closure on the death of a son that she considered a close friend. Luphahla is also still aggrieved that she was not the first port-of-call when her son was injured, as she only got informed about the incident when he had been ferried to hospital, despite the fact that the incident happened only a few metres from her house.
“I heard from one of the three people that were with him. He said they had already sent Cal_Vin to the hospital because he had been hit by a car. He banged on my gate and he told me that and then he went home.
“I wonder why they first went to the Cricket Club before they came to my house. My home is nearer to where he was hit. At least I would have made more of an effort. I have a landline at home and I would have called an ambulance.
They chose to rush to Cricket Club and look for his friends instead of me. His girlfriend says she was the one who ran off to Cricket Club.
I work at Mpilo (Hospital) and I would have made a plan for my son to be treated before he died but they didn’t tell me. Everyone in this area knows where I work. His medical report shows that he bled too much. At least if I had the chance to act sooner I could have helped him,” she said.
Luphahla said she had been given sleepless nights by the fact that the stories of those that were with him on the night of the incident appear inconsistent. After the death of the rapper, police impounded the car of one suspect, Wilfred Mafuka. Luphahla said she had been informed by police that DNA tests showed that the blood found on the suspect’s car belonged to an animal, instead of a human being. She said police had informed her that they were still looking for the car responsible for her son’s demise.
“I don’t sleep. I’m always thinking. It was just me and my son in this house. I have had to get a grandchild to come and live with me to fill that void. When we ask those that were there on the night, they say there were four or five people in the car that hit him. My question then is how do they know how many people were in the car when they say they didn’t see anything about the incident? It means they saw something at least. When I asked if there was a fight at Cricket Club his girlfriend told me that although Cal_Vin sometimes caused fights there, on that particular night there had been none,” she said.
Luphahla said that her suspicions were also raised by the fact that the car that reportedly hit her son was moving slowly when he allegedly jumped on its bonnet and told his three companions that it will drop him off at home.
“They say he jumped on the bonnet of a car and then he asked the people in the car to drive him home while he was sitting on top. I don’t believe it. Why didn’t they pull him back realising that he was doing something dangerous?
They say the car was moving slowly and when it reached the corner the driver applied brakes and it threw him off. It was then that this person ran over him.
“I don’t understand why a car that was driving so slowly could run over a person like that. That was why I asked if they fought with anyone in the bar. His girlfriend says she found him on the ground and he said ‘I have been injured’.
That’s when they rushed back to Cricket Club,” she said. As pain and confusion reigned, Luphahla said that the rest of the events that surrounded her son’s death were a blur.
“Some guy in a car came to me and said ‘have you heard that Cal_Vin has been hit by a car? If you have money for fuel let us go to him.’ I called my sister in Famona and the man and his friend drove me to Mpilo Hospital. That’s where they dumped me. They didn’t even go in to see him. I don’t remember the make of the car or the faces of the two men who took me to Mpilo. At that point I was already behaving like a mad person because of what had happened.
“When I got to the hospital, I found Cal_Vin’s friend and his girlfriend there. They did not even have a drop of blood on them, or any indication that they had at least tried to help my son. They were clean. If the bleeding had been stopped, he could have been here,” she said. -Sunday News

The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company is planning an exhibition with a difference this year that will see schoolchildren barred on the single public day set aside, while conferences, meetings and the prize-giving ceremony will be limited and attended strictly by invitation, Sunday News has learnt.
Last week ZITF, organisers of the country’s biggest annual trade expo announced that the show will make a return this year and will be held in July for four days instead of the usual five days, under tight Covid-19 mitigation protocols.
The exhibition was suspended last year after the country imposed a lockdown following the outbreak of Covid-19 in March.
This year’s exhibition will run from 20 to 23 July under the theme, “Showcasing the New Normal for Business and Industry: Realities and Opportunities.”
ZITF company chairman Mr Busisa Moyo told Sunday News that preparations have started with major consultations underway with various arms of Government especially those in charge of health to determine how some of the programmes will be held while at the same time observing Covid-19 protocols.
“We are still consulting and working that out with relevant health departments and more details will follow in due course,” he said.
Although Mr Moyo could not elaborate, Sunday News understands that there has been a recommendation to bar children on the single public day.
Three days have been set aside as business days while only one day instead of two, has been set aside as a public day.
In the past, ZITF had not only been an exhibition on trade but had become a major family event where the two public days were characterised by thousands of children in most cases accompanied by parents flocking to the Exhibition Centre where there will be a lot of entertainment. The exhibition was also held during school holidays to allow the children to attend.
However, according to this year’s school calendar during the days, schools will be open for the second term.
According to the re-arranged school calendar released by the Government for this year, the second term will run from 28 June to 10 September. Sunday News gathered that even on the business days, attendance will be mostly by invitation while conferences including the prize-giving ceremony will accommodate limited guests.
The Government has stipulated that gatherings are only limited to 50 people to minimise the spread of Covid-19.
The Government has also said people must always follow other measures to minimise the spread of Covid-19, such as social distancing, use of hand sanitisers and regular washing of hands.
A visit to the exhibition centre also revealed the need to urgently start preparations as tall grass has covered most of the spaces.
In a statement on Thursday, Mr Moyo said over the course of the next few days teams will be in touch with exhibitors, buyers and other key stakeholders with information on the show’s operational guidelines.
He also noted that stakeholders should expect to see new features which include heightened health and safety protocols, modified venue layouts, more digital and hybrid meeting platforms, and an emphasis on numbers management.
Mr Moyo said this year’s exhibition will present an ideal platform for stakeholders to converge and rebuild businesses while navigating the contours of the new normal which has become largely buttressed by technology and navigate new regional and global developments.
He also noted that with the planned voluntary mass vaccination for Bulawayo, the company hopes that sufficiently high numbers would have been vaccinated to achieve some level of Covid-19 herd immunity in time for the show.
“Our industry has been heavily disrupted by the pandemic and it is only through the support of industry partners such as our exhibitors and service providers that we will emerge more resilient and offer our events as primary agents for ‘post-pandemic’ economic recovery and renewal,” he said.
While the ZITF traditionally draws thousands of local and foreign delegates, bringing in wider business benefits mainly to the tourism sector and down the value chain, this year’s edition will be taking place under health and safety regulations provided to reduce exposure risk. Meanwhile, as at 22 April (Thursday), Zimbabwe had 38 018 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 35 073 recoveries and 1 555 deaths. A Zvishavane pirate taxi driver (25) has been arrested for allegedly raping a married woman who was also on her menstrual period after giving her a lift from Zvishavane.
The court heard that Mukudzeyi Zhou of Zvishavane allegedly raped the complainant in a bushy area in Shurugwi.
Zhou allegedly ignored the complainant’s plea to stop since she was on her menstrual period and raped her once without using protection. Zhou allegedly dumped the complainant around 8PM along Shurugwi-Gweru road after taking away her cellphone and national identity card.
This was heard during the appearance of Zhou before Gweru regional magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing one count of rape. Zhou pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded in custody to April 26 for judgment.
It is the State’s case that on June 15 last year, the complainant allegedly boarded Zhou’s vehicle at Zvishavane Bus Terminus going to Gweru.
In the vehicle, the court heard was a police jacket, police Outpost magazine and a pair of handcuffs — since the vehicle belongs to a police officer.
The court heard that along the way, Zhou allegedly didn’t pick any passengers stating that he was rushing to his home in Woodlands Park in Gweru.
When he approached dollar turn off along Shurugwi- Gweru road Zhou allegedly told the complainant that he wanted to make a brief detour to pick up a sack of potatoes and it was around 8PM.
The court heard that the complainant agreed without suspecting anything since she thought Zhou was a police officer. Zhou allegedly drove for about 15km and he turned right and drove about 100 metres before stopping the car and switching off the engine.
The court heard that Zhou allegedly dropped the complainant’s seat and ordered her to undress while attempting to strangle her.
The complainant told Zhou she was married and was on her menstrual period.
The court heard that Zhou allegedly ignored her pleas and raped her once without using protection.
After raping the complainant, Zhou forcibly took her smartphone and ordered her to disembark from his vehicle and drove back to Zvishavane.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Zhou’s arrest.- Chronicle

When your tendons are loose and limber, you may be less likely to experience pain and tightness, according to the patient advocacy group CreakyJoints.
Plus, “increasing your flexibility helps prevent injury,” says M. Elaine Husni, MD, MPH, the vice chair of rheumatology and the director of the arthritis and musculoskeletal center at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. “Daily stretching is an underemphasized part of psoriatic arthritis exercise.”
You’ll want to devote at least 15 minutes a day to stretching, but you should consider doing more, says Dr. Husni.
To get off on the right foot with any new stretching regimen, “you should start with a physical therapist to evaluate your physical ability and come up with a plan,” Husni says. “Once you can stretch without injuring yourself, you can make the plan part of your daily routine.”

Hold your hand out and touch each fingertip to the tip of your thumb. Repeat five times. Here’s a simple stretch for hands:
Rest your forearm on a table and let your hand hang down. Clench your fingers while flexing your wrist so your fist comes up as far as possible. Repeat 10 times

Sitting upright in a straight-backed chair, bend your head sideways toward your shoulder; stretch and hold for about five seconds. Keeping your back still, turn your head to the other side as far as you can without pain, holding the stretch for five seconds. Repeat five times.

Once again, and certainly not for the last time sadly, the football-loving public has to deal with the possibility of a Warriors home game being staged outside the country.
Since the Confederation of African Football (CAF) sanctioned all the country’s football arenas from hosting international matches citing lack of set international standards, two Warriors games have been played at the National Sports Stadium- the 2-2 draw with Algeria and the 0-2 loss to Zambia.
When the giant facility was reprieved for the Algeria game, CAF made it clear that the game would be staged there despite the need for bucket seats because no fans were allowed but they (the seats) are still a pre-requisite.
Bucket seats, as the continental governing body has repeatedly-insisted, are a basic requirement for any stadium hosting international matches.
For the past 12 months, the excuse we have been getting from those responsible for installing them has a name; Covid-19.
The respiratory ailment has without brought everything to halt but to what extent has it delayed the installation of bucket seats?
Deputy Sports Minister Tino Machakaire, on his tour of the facility early this year, revealed that the stadium was now under his ministry, after years of being administered by their Public Works counterparts.
Yesterday, ZIFA informed the nation that it has been hit with a US$2000 fine for the state of the National Sports Stadium on the day of the defeat to Zambia last month.
What that simply means is, there is a possibility of the upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifier between the Warriors and South Africa, slatted for June at the same venue, can be staged outside the country.

Zimbabwe is in the hands of cruel people, MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has said.
President Chamisa was commenting on the arrest, torture and persecution of political activists by the Zanu PF regime.
Last week two Harare political activists were tortured by government agents after being arrested for attending MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala’s court session.
On Thursday State Security agents forcibly removed Hon Joana Mamombe from a private hospital where she was receiving treatment.
” Our country is in the hands of the cruel… This must end! Together we must fix our broken politics,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter
“The freedom promise has been deferred. The ‘crocodile’ liberators have betrayed the liberation promise. We need a new brand of politics,” added President Chamisa.

“I was in Mhondoro in Mashonaland West Province over the weekend touring some of the projects our party has initiated to empower rural communities.
The MDC Alliance is supporting rural women with vegetable seeds to grow vegetables to feed their families or sell.
We are also planning to launch an artificial insemination project to support cattle breeding in rural communities.
We are playing our part to fight endemic poverty among neglected and marginalized rural communities in Zimbabwe,” said MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende.

By A Correspondent- Teachers have threatened to go on strike to force government to re-verse its no-work no-salary policy against its workers who are claiming incapacitation.
Labour unions representing teachers said the stayaway would force government to concede to their salary demands of a living wage of be-tween US$520 and US$550 or the equivalent in local currency.
The decision by teachers comes after government this week said it would start implementing a no-work no-pay policy for absentee workers in response to a decision by the labour unions to report to work two days a week.
Government effected a 25% salary hike on teachers’ salaries this month, which saw the highest paid teacher earning $22 000, but unions have rejected the increment, demanding that government revert to the pre-October 2018 salaries of between US$520 and US$550 or equivalent in local currency.
In an interview yesterday, Zimbabwe National Teachers Union president Manuel Nyawo said teachers would escalate their fight for a salary review until government addressed the issue.
“We have decided to escalate our incapacitation fight. There’s no way we are going to rescind that deci-sion until the employer addresses our grievances. We don’t care what they will do. If they want to kill us, they can kill, but we will continue to press on with our demands and our adopt-ed decision of no pay, no work,” he said.
“It’s known that teachers are suffering, but the employer decides to entertain legislators who are earning up to $72 000, but teachers who are earning between $18 000 to $22 000 have to go through such a punishment of no work, no salary. What do they want to achieve with that?”
He said as teachers, they were not going to take the threats by the employer lightly, since the employer decided to punish them when they expected further negotiations.
We haven’t been given the opportunity to meet the Head of State (President Emmerson Mnangagwa) who has the final say in the matter before they take the punitive measure. We are so much disappointed that government seems to be unwilling to really appreciate the good work by teachers for long. The reasoning to punish us for incapacitation is synonymous with cruelty on us workers,” Nyawo said.
His sentiments were echoed by Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, president Takavafira Zhou, who said they had two major options of mobilising to stay away or take government to court under section 165 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
“If government sticks to its no-work, no-pay policy, we are going to mobilise teachers so that there will be little activity in the schools and stay-away. We also have another option to file a court application under the dispute of rights in terms of Section 165 of ILO after government unilaterally reduced teachers’ salaries,” Zhou said.
“That will be only an urgent chamber application for it to be heard. So we are busy mobilising other teachers unions and our colleagues in the Apex Council to declare a deadlock and then file the chamber application. If we are discorded we will achieve nothing so we have to speak with one voice.”
However, Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) secretary-general Goodwill Taderera said they were still to consult with their membership on the direction to take.
“Zimta will continue to consult with its wide structures from grassroots level up to leadership. Zimta always holds meetings at all those levels that will feed into the national executive to give direction,” he said.
“So I wouldn’t know what Zimta will do because Zimta is the membership.”
On Wednesday during a meeting held in Harare attended by seven un-ions that represent teachers to deliberate on issues affecting the educators, the leaders agreed to seek legal counsel to ensure that they are not victimised for not reporting for duty due to incapacitation.-newsday
By Emmanuael Koro- As you might know, climate change is one of the biggest threats to both wildlife and humankind.
Its impacts on and kills all forms of life in the air, on the land, freshwater bodies, rivers and seas and oceans.
Sadly, the Western animal rights groups are hell-bent on selfishly and selectively singling out emotional /charismatic wildlife protectionist issues linked to fundraising opportunities.
Therefore, they ignore the self-regulating Organisation of Petroleum Producing Countries (OPEC) and preferfor selfish fundraising purposes; to impose poaching and illegal wild trade-triggering bans on international wildlifehunting and all forms of wild trade, so that they can profit from it through fundraising.
Meanwhile, African wildlife and people become harmed by such decisions. Without trade, there are no funds for wildlife and habitat conservation. Also, no money socioeconomic developments in communities that co-exist with wildlife. This is a sad scenario because it disincentives conservation. When African communities don’t benefit from wildlife, they see no need to conserve it and its habitat. Hence the popular saying in southern African countries “Use It Or Lose It.”
However, for these animal rights groups, the best way to maintain their fundraising ventures is to continue the dictatorshipstyle imposition of bans on international wildlife hunting and all forms of wild trade, including ivory and rhino horn.
Because if there is no wildlife poaching and illegal trade in wild products (problems that they have created to profit from), then their lucrative fundraising opportunities fall away. Therefore, we should not be surprised by their ‘deafening silence’ when it comes to climate change because they can’t raise as muchmuch from the climate change issues as they do from emotional wildlife-focused issues.
If they were serious about saving wildlife, they should be brave enough to tell OPEC member countries (that include Iran, Saudi Arabia, USA, Qatar and Russia to name a few powerful ones) to stop oil production and use alternative sources of energy. But they won’t because there is not much money linked to climate change issues. Also, of course, because they are scared of them!
The secret about the Western animal rights’ agenda is out again, they follow the money, not wildlife conservation.

By A Correspondent | A 36-year-old Zimbabwean woman died after receiving her a fatal dose of nicotine from a herbalist in Nottingham.
The herbalist has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.

Sophie Jekecha had been unwell for several weeks and complained of stomach pains and it was arranged for Lyndon Nindi, who offered traditional herbal remedies to the Zimbabwean community, to visit her at her home in Aspley.
The 49-year-old, of Kinross Drive in Newcastle, who also worked as a care worker, had attended the house in Aspley Lane under a pre-arranged appointment to carry out his treatment.
During the ritual he conducted, Nindi poured snuff (ground tobacco) in his palm and held it to her nose to inhale as well as putting snuff in a glass of water for her to drink. The intention was to make her vomit.
Part-way through, she became dizzy and needed to lie down. She then became increasingly distressed stating that she could not breathe.
At this point, Nindi called someone to seek advice and then applied more snuff to her body but she became more unwell and then unresponsive.
An ambulance was called but despite paramedics attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead shortly after the incident at around 7pm on 16 February 2020.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called and arrested Nindi on suspicion of manslaughter at the scene.
During their investigation, they found that Ms Jekecha had died as a result of nicotine poisoning and that she had an undiagnosed heart condition which meant that she would be unlikely to survive a toxic challenge such as nicotine ingestion.
Nindi was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court today (Friday 23 April) having previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter and administering a noxious substance (namely nicotine).
Detective Inspector Rebecca Hodgman said: “This is a tragic case which highlights the dangers of extreme herbal remedies.”Ms Jekecha leaves behind an 18-year-old daughter who is now being cared for by other family members.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time and we’re grateful to them for working with us during this difficult and complex investigation.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has mourned the two Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) pilots and a technician, who perished after a helicopter crashed in the Chinyika area of Goromonzi, Mashonaland East Province yesterday.
The crash also killed an 18-month-old toddler identified as Jade Fenyere, who was sleeping in the house with her twin sister Jada, who escaped with burn injuries together with the mother who later tried to rescue them.
The mother and Jada were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and later transferred to Trauma Centre in Borrowdale for treatment, and were reportedly in a stable condition last night.
The deceased AFZ members are Flight- Lieutenant Annita Mapiye who is Zimbabwe’s first female helicopter fighter pilot, Wing Commander Tinashe Thomas Mapiye and Flight Sergeant Chikamhi.
Flight-Lt Mapiye is said to have joined the AFZ in 2012 and had recently given birth.
The cause of the crash will be established after an aircraft accident investigation.
In a statement yesterday, President Mnangagwa said he learnt with great sorrow and grief the fatal air crash involving one of the AFZ helicopters, which was on routine training in the Goromonzi area.
“While investigations are still underway, it has come to my attention that all three members of the crew perished in the crash,” said President Mnangagwa.
“Even more heart-wrenching is the information that the helicopter crashed on a rondavel, claiming one other life and injuring a mother and a child.
“As we await details concerning this tragic incident, may I, on behalf of the party Zanu-PF, Government, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, and on my behalf, express my deepest condolences to relatives of the airmen and the child who perished in this rare incident.”
The President wished a speedy recovery to the injured, adding that Government will do its utmost to ensure they receive urgent medical attention while the deceased are laid to rest with befitting dignity and honour.
The helicopter, an Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412), crashed into a house at Plot 2 of Gardner Road, Ward 16 in Goromonzi.
The AFZ, in a statement, said the helicopter was from Number 8 Sqn at Manyame Air Force Base (Manyame AFB), which was on a general handling training sortie in the Seke-Domboshava Training Area.
The AFZ said when contact could not be established with the aircraft, the Manyame Air Base activated a search and rescue operation, which resulted in the aircraft wreckage being identified.
Commander AFZ, Air Marshal Elson Moyo, said a dark cloud had engulfed the AFZ after news of the helicopter accident.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives after the unfortunate accident. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured after the accident,” he said.
Father to the deceased girl, Mr Joseph Fenyere who owns Plot 2, said he was not at home when the mishap occurred.
“I was informed that a helicopter had crashed into the house after deflecting from a tree branch at a hilly platform a few metres away and burst into flames.
“When the house caught fire, my three children; twin girls, Jade and Jada were asleep inside, while their four-year-old sibling, Dean, was seated in the doorway,” said Mr Fenyere.
Upon hearing the ear-piercing burst, the mother and other people on the scene took flight but she later tried to retrieve her children from the burning house.
By then, Jade had already died while Dean was out of danger.

Linda Sphiwe Mpofu from Bulawayo’s Barbourfields suburb begged the court to protect her from her marauding ex-lover Brenda Mugabazi.
Linda told the Bulawayo Civil Court that she is now living in fear for her life as Brenda did not take the break-up well. She alleged that her ex-lover is violent and abusive and is now stalking her and threatening her for daring to end the relationship.
“On 25 December 2020, she beat me up and I sustained a swollen left knee and foot and I am still limping up to now. Whenever she meets me, she harasses me and declares that I can’t leave her,” reports B-Metro
According to a clearly distraught Linda, Brenda has an insatiable sexual appetite and is always demanding sex from her despite the fact that they are no longer together. In fact, Brenda is alleged to be demanding sex as a way of punishing Linda for leaving her.
Linda also claimed that she now wants to live “a normal life” and accused Brenda of having forced her into being a lesbian.
“I have been living a lesbian life with Brenda (Mugabazi) who forced me into it and I have realised that I cannot continue with it… I am begging the honourable court to grant me a protection order against her…This is because I want to live a normal life again.”
Following the assault that occurred on Christmas Day, Linda was granted an interim protection order in January after she told the court that she was terrified of Brenda’s abuse and sex demands.
She revealed that her situation had worsened as Brenda has been constantly threatening her saying that she will never let her go because she (Linda) is her wife.
By A Correspondent- Villagers of Sika in Bindura were left shell-shocked after a 32 year old woman allegedly starved her two year old son to death and secretly buried him.
Portia Chovhani is currently assisting police with investigations after her missing son’s body was exhumed in a garden a week after his death.
Mashonaland Central police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.
“I can confirm a murder case in Bindura where Chovhani led the police to a garden where she had secretly buried her son Tariro Gondo after a tip off,” Dhliwayo said.
“The child is reported to have been sick for sometime due to malnutrition and was allegedly killed on 8 April and the mother decided to secretly bury him in a garden.”
It is further alleged that Chovhani decided to bury the child secretly because villagers had threatened to deal with her if the child dies as she was reported to have been refusing to carry the child to hospital.
Police warned people to take good care of their children and in case of death to inform the community.
“People should understand that children are supposed to be loved and supported by their parents or guardians,” added Dhliwayo.
“In case of death it should be communicated to the community so that they will assist since it is not an individual event.
By A Correspondent- In Zimbabwe, and most of Africa, donkey-drawn scotchcarts are extensively used by farmers, particularly in the communal areas as a viable mode of transport to carry goods such as agricultural produce, manure, firewood and water.
Scotchcarts, which were hitherto confined to rural areas, are slowly becoming a common sight in urban areas. In Bulawayo, there is an emerging trend of young entrepreneurs who have lately resorted to using scotchcarts to eke out a living.
The scotchcarts are used to transport people from one suburb to another, carrying sand, firewood and farm produce among other goods.
These scotchcarts prominently feature on the city’s congested streets, especially in the western suburbs where they have become a popular mode of transport. However, in their day-to-day routines, scotchcart operators struggle to do business against a host of challenges, which include cat-and-mouse games with municipal rangers and police, exorbitant fines for violating council by-laws.
They are also accused of poaching sand and firewood and also face the occasional rage of residents. The operators have to compete with vehicular traffic for space and they often wait for hours for customers.
In areas such as Cowdray Park, scotchcart operators have taken over the business of transporting sand and firewood. Cowdray Park scotchcart operators have turned an area popularly known as “EmaCaravan” into a hunting ground for clients.
A news crew yesterday visited the suburb and spoke to selected scotchcart operators. Mr Prosper Ndlovu of Cowdray Park is in the business of cutting firewood for resale in his locality and surrounding areas.
“I wake up as early as 4AM to fetch firewood in Nyamandlovu because I will be trying to avoid being spotted by game rangers. Usually, I get orders from my regular customers and most of these are backyard restaurant operators and local residents in sections with no power,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu left his job as a security guard three months ago to venture into the scotchcart business on a full-time basis. He has partnered with Mr Isaiah Ncube who specialises mostly in marketing the business.
“My business partner, Isaiah Ncube helps in terms of looking for customers because he has been a resident of Cowdray Park for many years unlike myself. I came here three months ago and few people know me,” he said.
Both Messrs Ndlovu and Ncube rent houses in Cowdray Park but the donkeys are kept at St Peter’s Village near Old Pumula.
“I have a friend of mine who stays at St Peter’s Village and that is where I pen my donkeys overnight because there are a lot of stock thieves around. The other issue is that whenever municipal police spot these donkeys roaming around, they impound them,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu said on a good day, he makes R400 from selling firewood and carrying sand.
“Now that we are heading towards winter, the firewood business is likely to increase as there will be high demand,” he said.
Another scotchcart operator, Mr Emmanuel Sibanda said most of his business revolves around ferrying people between St Peter’s Village and Pumula including other surrounding suburbs.
“In areas such as St Peter’s, residents are now relying on donkey-drawn scotchcarts as public transport operators are shunning the route because of poor roads. We are therefore capitalising on that,” he said.
Mr Sibanda said he also gets business from communal farmers intending to transport their produce to the market. He, however, said due to council by-laws prohibiting scotchcarts from entering the city centre, he just delivers in the western suburbs. BCC is struggling to deal with donkey crews as residents have made numerous reports over the presence of the animals.
In suburbs such as Pumula South, Pelandaba West, Nkulumane, Luveve 5 and Magwegwe, there are several donkey-drawn cart operators. BCC senior public relations officer Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said it is illegal for anyone to keep donkeys in the city.
“The Bulawayo (Protection of lands and Natural Resources) by-laws do not allow the keeping of domestic animals on individual properties unless there is authority in terms of the said by-laws, a town planning permission and Bulawayo (Public Health) by-laws approval. Rangers do attend to reports as they come,” she said.
Rangers have issued tickets to the culprits and some animals have been taken to the pound which is at Luveve Gum plantation. The fine for offenders is $832 and is subject to review at council’s pleasure.
By A Correspondent- The trial of Wicknell Chivayo and his company Intratrek Zimbabwe (Pvt) Limited, along with former Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) board chairperson Stanley Kazhanje, on allegations that Intratrek paid Kazhanje a US$10 000 bribe, opened yesterday at the Harare Magistrates Court.
Both individual accused and the company entered pleas of not guilty, with Kazhanje applying to have the charge against him dropped since he has already been convicted of hiding the transaction, which he avers was a straight-forward business payment made before he took the ZPC post, from his principle.
Chivayo and his company, represented by Advocate Lewis Uriri, denied ever transferring the US$10 000 to Kazhanje as a bribe, saying it was payment for consultancy services rendered to his firm before Kazhanje joined the ZPC board.
Adv Uri agreed Intratrek Zimbabwe did transfer US$10 000 “into the account of Stanley Kazhanje”, but said it “was made at a time prior to the said Stanley Kazhanje’s appointment as the ZPC board chair and for professional services rendered prior thereto.
“The said Stanley Kazhanje did not do anything to show favour to Intratrek Zimbabwe nor was he induced in any manner whatsoever whether as alleged or at all.”
Kazhanje, represented by Advocate Tawanda Nyamakura, denied the charges, saying he was once convicted on the same payment and applied that the charges be dismissed.
Adv Nyamakura said Kazhanje was convicted on charges of concealing a transaction from a principal, which has a competent verdict for bribery allegations and would be double jeopardy if tried on same allegations.
“It follows that in the original trial, the third accused (Kazhanje) was in jeopardy of conviction of bribery as a charge that is alternative verdict by operation of law,” said Mr Adv Nyamakura.
“The charges arise from a single transaction between the third and first accused in 2016.
“The evidence that proves the one is the same that proves the other. There is nothing new that the State subsequently discovered that could warrant a new charge.”
Kazhanje said trying him on the current charge was in violation of his right to be tried twice on same facts. He denied the allegations, saying he did consultation work for Intratrek Zimbabwe in 2014 before his appointment as ZPC board chairperson in a tender project for Terminal Engineers, which he said was not successful.
Kazhanje said he was entitled to payment for the services rendered to Chivayo’s company and the money was deposited into his personal account. He denied that he tried to influence ZPC to make a favourable decision to Chivayo and his company.
Mr Brian Vito, appearing for the State, is expected to reply to Kazhanje’s application for dismissal of the charges. Regional magistrate Mr Ngoni Nduna presided.-statemedia

“In a master stroke, Zanu-PF agreed to this contentious clause on proviso that it would be held in abeyance for 10 years. It now appears the opposition, clearly out of depth as always, thought Zanu-PF had given in to their law-making whim,” boasted George Charamba
“It never occurred to them Zanu-PF merely conceded without ceding an inch of strategic ground. The running mate clause was unacceptable to Zanu-PF both on grounds of principle and because of unsavoury experiences of the same.”
He was commenting of the Constitutional Amendment Bill No 2, recently passed by parliament, which has effectively amended 27 different sections of the 2013 Zimbabwe Constitutions. One of the amendments scraps the need for presidential candidates to have running mates. An elected VP will have the electoral mandate and confidence to assert his/her independence; as contrast to one appointed by the President and whose tenure can be terminated at the drop of a hat.
“I point this out to expose the fallacy which is being touted by easy journalists and commentators that the current President is responsible for scrapping of the running mate in order to consolidate his hold on power and to block Vice-President Chiwenga in Zanu-PF succession matrix,” explained Charamba.
“Of course, I am charmed to note that these commentators in that false reasoning admit that the future belongs to Zanu-PF. On that aspect alone, they are very right!
“What the current President is doing is merely accomplishing Zanu-PF’s will which was agreed on, under the then late President Robert Mugabe’s leadership.”
In other words, Zanu PF outwitted MDC to have a clause suspending the running mate clause for ten years 2013 to 2023 and now, before the suspension period was over, passed an amendment scrapping the clause altogether. Job done!
“Amendment Bill Number 2 is the single deadliest blow to our constitutionalism so far,” charged Dzikamai Bere, ZimRights National Director.
“It is a tragedy that the people who claim to represent the people of Zimbabwe are acting with impunity against the very people they purport to represent. I hope the people will punish them for this treasonous act.”

Right or wrong, the MPs have the constitutional power and authority to amend the country’s constitution. How can they be guilty of treason for exercising their constitutional power?
However it would be a different matter if Bere said the MPs are committing high treason because they are usurpers; they do not have the people’s democratic mandate to govern the country because the July 2018 elections were not free, fair and credible. There is no denying Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections.
“The (Zimbabwe) electoral commission (ZEC) lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability. Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards,” stated the EU Election Observer Mission final report.
3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora were denied the vote and ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake!
George Charamba is not the first Zanu PF official to boast of outwitting the MDC opposition with disastrous consequences to the nation. As soon as it was clear the nation had approved the 2013 Constitution; Paul Mangwana, Zanu PF co-chairperson on the parliamentary committee that drafted the document, boasted that Mugabe “dictated” the constitution.
MDC leaders had campaigned for a yes vote in the referendum on the new Constitution. Morgan Tsvangirai even claimed the new constitution was “an MDC child”! All nonsense, of course as the new constitution failed its most important litmus test – deliver free, fair and credible elections. And now it is clear even those few clauses that Zanu PF had allowed to be included in the constitution the party was using its dictatorial powers to rig elections and secure absolute majority to amend at leisure!
“As ZimRights, we are against the attempt to push back into the Constitution what the people had rejected during the Constitution-making process,” argued ZimRights national chairperson Takesure Musiiwa.
Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution has failed to deliver or guarantee any of our democratic freedoms and rights notable the right to free, fair and credible elections. Whatever freedoms and rights it gives in one section it takes them all away in the next; it is a dictator’s creed. It is naïve, to say the least, to expect a dictator like Mugabe to dictate a democratic constitution.
The real clever bit is that Zanu PF not only sold the nation a dictator’s creed disguised as a democratic constitution but that even now with all the evidence of rigged elections some people still pretend the elections were free and fair and the dictator’s creed is an exemplary democratic constitution!
There is no one more blind that he who would close his eyes and mind to the truth! It is bad enough anyone should close their eyes to the truth Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by vote rigging thugs precisely because we have a dictator’s creed for a constitution. It is little wonder Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess, the entire opposition camp, civic society and millions of ordinary citizens have all elected to close their eyes and minds. And, worst of all, there no hope of escaping from the mess until we open our eyes and deal with the curse of rigged elections and pariah state.
By A Correspondent- Njube Lobengula MDC Alliance legislator Gift Banda on Thursday unveiled a scholarship programme for the academically gifted primary and secondary school students in his constituency who are from poor backgrounds.
Njube-Lobengula is one of the oldest suburbs in Bulawayo where the majority of the aged and poor are found. in 2020, Njube Secondary School students took to the streets to protest high tuition fees. Banda said a survey conducted by the Njube Constituency Development Committee showed that the situation was a lot worse for students in his constituency coming from poor backgrounds such as orphans who are now being forced to drop out of school.
“it is for this reason why we decided to come up with this revolving scholarship programme targeting the academically gifted from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“This programme targets all students notwithstanding the political affiliation of their elders at their homes,” Banda said.
Ten schools targeted under the educational scholarship fund Mawaba, Nkanyezi, Mtshede, Ngubo, Nyamande, Helem and Nsukamini primary schools and Lobengula Sikhulile and Njube secondary schools.
“We are working with the constituency development committee, social welfare and school heads in the constituency to identify the beneficiaries; taking them from primary school to tertiary education level,” Banda added.
The government also has a social welfare programme, the Basic Education Assistance Module (Beam), where it pays tuition fees for the disadvantaged and orphans. The Beam has however been affected by underfunding from the Treasury.
Council reports show that the government Beam debt dates back to 2014, and has been struggling to clear it resulting in beneficiaries being chased away from school over non-payment.
At one time councillors said contract forms compelling parents and the government to pay up fees on or before schools open should be introduced to ensure that council schools get money due to them.-newsday
By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s decision to reassign key staff in former Vice-President Kembo Mohadi’s office could be an indication that the Zanu-PF leader was in no hurry to replace his embattled former deputy, analysts have said.
Mohadi (71) resigned last month over sexual allegations with a subordinate, aide and students to “save government’s image”.
Mnangagwa was expected to immediately appoint Mohadi’s replacement, but on Tuesday transferred senior staffers in his former deputy’s office to other portfolios in what observers said could be a sign that he was doing away with the office.
The former permanent secretary in Mohadi’s office, Paul Damasane was promoted to Deputy Chief Secretary for Social Services, Monitoring Programmes in the ministries of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation, National Housing and Social Amenities, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare and Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and their parastatals.
David Marapira, who was the Minister of State in Mohadi’s Office, has been elevated to Minister of State in the Office of the President and Cabinet in charge of Monitoring and Implementation of Special Agricultural and Related Programmes that include Command Agriculture and irrigation development.
The reshuffle has been widely viewed by the public as a plot by Mnangagwa to freeze the post until after the 2023 elections which he believes will give him another mandate to rule for a second term.
Other voices have also speculated that Mnangagwa was secretly diverting from the Unity Accord signed in 1987 between Zanu and PF Zapu because he was under pressure to appoint a person favourable to his deputy Constantino Chiwenga.
Under the Unity Accord, Zanu-PF would have two vice-presidents, one of them from Zapu. Mohadi was from the Zapu side and is expected to be replaced by another former senior Zapu official.
Political analysts said Mnangagwa was buying time and delays in filling vacant positions have always been common in Zanu-PF.
Bulawayo-based veteran journalist and political analyst Methuseli Moyo yesterday said the redeployment of the staff was “normal”.
He said Mnangagwa has no reason to depart from the Unity Accord and gamble with a political decision whose effect may suicidal.
“Zanu-PF is re-establishing itself in Matabeleland and, therefore, the president must consider that in his choice for Mohadi’s successor,” Moyo said.
“Freezing the post till 2023 will feed into speculation and create more jostling and more disunity.”
“The Unity Accord is a pillar of national unity. Throwing it away may give rise to all sorts of interpretations.”
Political analyst Austin Chakaodza said Zanu-PF had a tendency to procrastinate when filling up positions which arises in government.
“The freezing of the post should be regarded as temporary pending extensive consultation with the key stakeholders in the Zapu wing of Zanu-PF,” he said.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba said Mnangagwa needed more time to make the appointment.
“The President needs to make several considerations before making that important appointment,” Charamba said.
“The Vice-President had been tasked with various crucial governance roles which needed to remain functional despite his office being vacant hence the need for such appointments,” he said.
By A Correspondent- Transparency International Zimbabwe (TI-Z) says workers are increasingly abandoning government health institutions for private practice, a move blamed for poor service delivery in hospitals.
In its latest report on corruption in the health sector, TI-Z said due to poor remuneration, doctors and nurses employed in the public service were prioritising private health service, where they earned better wages.
The move has increased cases of absenteeism in government-run hospitals and clinics, which cater for the majority of poor Zimbabweans.
About 86% of the respondents who participated in the TI-Z research said they had visited health institutions where health workers were absent, while more than half of the respondents said they had witnessed health workers showing favouritism to other patients.
“The key informants interviewed revealed that there is a mass migration of qualified health workers from government or local council clinics to private sector institutions or outside the country creating a vacuum in the sector,” said TI-Z.
“In some cases, public health sector workers are dividing their time between the public and private sectors.
“This inevitably leads to certain forms of corruption such as bribery, absenteeism, illegal referrals, moonlighting and selling of government posts. Similarly, the respondents reveal a long and growing catalogue of corrupt practices which highlights how badly the public health sector has been exposed to corruption.”
Due to lack of commitment by health workers to public health service delivery, the majority of the respondents said they had been ordered to undergo unnecessary medical procedures or false treatment.
“If the government continues to fail to provide adequate remuneration, welfare and improve the working conditions in hospitals and clinics, it will obviously affect us the end users of these facilities. People are not motivated to come to work and they are hungry,” a respondent told TI-Z.
TI-Z urged government to provide adequate and timely remuneration to public health workers in line with regional standards to curb incidents of theft of medicine, bribery and absenteeism.
Nurses and doctors have engaged in recurrent strikes, demanding improved working environments and better wages, while some have resigned from the civil service.-newsday

By A Correspondent- The two Mutasa Grade One pupils who were brutally murdered and their bodies dumped into a disused Blair toilet have been laid to rest.
Dilan and Melissa Benza (both seven-year-olds), who were cousins, were finally laid to rest yesterday (Friday), 11 days after their gruesome murder.
The two were murdered on their way home from Mbaza Primary School last week and the prime suspect is Solomon Manyama, Dilan’s maternal uncle.
Manyama and his co-accused, Passmore Kumbirai Sambaza have since appeared in court facing murder charges and were remanded in custody to 6 May.
The bodies were squeezed into the pit of a blair toilet at an abandoned homestead about four kilometres from their homes and they both had their throats slit open.
Lydia Manyama, Dilan’s mother, is yet to come to terms with her firstborn child’s death. She told Manica Post:
Dilan and Melissa were cousins. They were inseparable, even in death. They would walk to and from school together.
On the fateful day, there was a School Development Committee meeting at their school and I attended the meeting. However, I left a bit early.
I never harboured thoughts that I would never see my son again. I went back home to attend to other chores.
As Grade One pupils, I expected the two to arrive home earlier than other students. However, they delayed coming home.
Around 3 pm, I started feeling that something was amiss as they would usually arrive home around 1 pm.
I checked with Melissa’s parents and they said she was also yet to arrive.
When we started looking for the missing children, a neighbour suggested that we communicate with Solomon as he was among the last people to leave the SDC meeting.
When we called him, he said he had last seen the children near the Kavhuru homestead. We combed the area but did not locate the children. We even searched the nearby Nhindiwa River, all to no avail.
We called Solomon again and this time he said he had last seen the children near the school grounds looking for wild fruits.
Solomon is my uncle. He was also close to the children as he was a regular visitor to our place.
I never suspected that he would ever be linked to the disappearance and murder of my son. His involvement, in this case, is a bitter pill for me to swallow.
I was there when their bodies were retrieved from the toilet. At that moment, my heart broke.
I just couldn’t accept what was unfolding before my eyes. The sight was just not fair for me and I fainted.
Melissa’s father, Douglas Benza, wants justice to prevail, even it means the banishment of the perpetrators from the area.
He said:
Even if the perpetrators are convicted and given lengthy jail terms, we will never be able to co-exist with their families. These people do not have a place in our society.
They should be relocated to another area because I cannot continue interacting with them. In fact, they should undergo the same pain that our children went through.
This is the sad state of West Park Cemetery, Bulawayo. The tombstones are now barely visible. A few weeks ago myself and some relatives struggled to locate a grave.- Qhawe Moyo
By A Correspondent- The father of an 18-month-old toddler who died when a military helicopter, an Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412) crashed onto a house she was sleeping in and exploded in a fireball in Goromonzi on Friday, said he was not at home when the mishap occurred.
Joseph Fenyere who owns Plot 2 of Gardner Road, Ward 16 in the Chinyika area of Goromonzi, Mashonaland East Province, lost her daughter Jade, while the baby’s twin sister Jada, and their mother escaped with burn injuries.
Fenyere’s other child, Dean, who was seated in the doorway when the chopper crashed, escaped unhurt.
Fenyere said:
I was informed that a helicopter had crashed into the house after deflecting from a tree branch at a hilly platform a few metres away and burst into flames.
When the house caught fire, my three children; twin girls, Jade, and Jada were asleep inside, while their four-year-old sibling, Dean, was seated in the doorway.
The mother and other people on the scene initially ran away when the plane plunged onto the house but later tried to retrieve the children from the burning house.
Dilon Fenyere (19) said they tried to help the mother’s trapped children, but Jade had already died.
The mother and Jada were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and later transferred to Trauma Centre in Borrowdale for treatment, and were reportedly in a stable condition last night.
An eyewitness, Peter Katsago (22), said the chopper appeared to have lost control as it was flying close to the ground.
He said:
I was washing a car behind the house when the helicopter appeared from the western side in the direction of Harare.
Surprisingly, it seemed to be misfiring as it nosedived at a tree branch on a hillock behind the house and deflected to a boulder, before crashing into the house and bursting into flames on impact.
The deceased Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) members are Flight- Lieutenant Annita Mapiye who is Zimbabwe’s first female helicopter fighter pilot, Wing Commander Tinashe Thomas Mapiye, and Flight Sergeant Chikamhi, a technician.
The cause of the crash will be established after an aircraft accident investigation, the AFZ said in a statement.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- Four Hopley families were shocked and left traumatised on Tuesday after discovering that they had been drinking water from a well that had a dead human being for nearly a week.
The body of 33-year-old Bowen Mutori was retrieved from the well six days after he went missing but the affected families had been drinking the water unbeknownst that there was a dead body inside.
A decision was taken to empty the well when the stench became too strong, only to find a body floating on the water.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii confirmed the incident. He said:
At around 2100 hours, it was reported that he saw an unknown vehicle passing by the road outside his house and told his wife that the motorist was looking for him.
He was reported to have put on his shoes and went away only to be found dead six days later. His body was found floating in a well at a house in their neighbourhood.
The owner of the house where the body was found is reported to have been drawing water from the well unknowingly, forcing them to try and empty the well after an unpleasant smell coming from it.
The families continued to draw water from the well until they discovered the body floating.
The body had a swollen face and bruises on the neck and police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Chikomborero Chiwona ( 39), who discovered the body floating in her well, told H-Metro that four families had been drawing water for use without realising there was a body in the well.
She said:
We tried to empty the well because of the stench from the well but nothing was found on only to discover the body floating the following day.
… We used to fetch water for drinking and watering our garden, but we are now forced to look for alternative sources of water.
The well has since been filled with earth as the owners consider it improper to continue drawing water from it.

In his message after the accident, Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), Air Marshal Elson Moyo, said a dark cloud had engulfed the AFZ after news of the helicopter accident that claimed the lives of three aircrew and a civilian on the ground. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives after the unfortunate accident. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured after the accident,” he said. The names of the deceased will be released after their next of keen have been informed. The cause of the accident will be established after an aircraft accident investigation and funeral arrangements for the deceased will be announced in due course.
By A Correspondent- A third person has died following a shooting in Gweru on Thursday night over a suspected case of infidelity.
The suspect, Peter Dube (35), who is still at large, accused his wife of having an affair, and allegedly shot his wife, her sister, her suspected lover, and a friend.
According to a police memorandum, the deceased, one Shelton and Gamuchirai Mudungwe (30), who were lovers, accompanied their friend Nyasha Nharingo (31) and her sister Nyaradzo Nharingo (34) to Masvingo to collect the latter’s passport.
Nyasha, who is married to Dube as his second wife, did not inform her husband about the trip.
Around 8 pm, Dube went to Nyasha’s place at Bensam Flats in the central business district armed with an unidentified gun and accused her of having an affair with Shelton.
A fight broke out and Dube went outside where Shelton was parked and shot him in the head killing him instantly.
Dube then went back into the flat and shot Mudungwe, a popular socialite in Gweru, once in the chest. She died on the spot.
In the flat, Dube shot Nyasha once on the neck and her sister Nyaradzo once in the head.
The two sustained serious injuries and were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where Nyaradzo passed on later in the day.
We are investigating the cases of murder that occurred along Main Street in Gweru on the 23rd of April 2021 in the early hours of the morning.
However, we do not yet have finer details and our officers are still gathering evidence and conducting investigations. We will update you as soon as we have more details.
By A Correspondent-President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged government assistance to all the victims of yesterday’s Goromonzi Chopper crash.
The accident claimed the lives of three Air-Force of Zimbabwe employees and the civilian.
Three members of the family of the deceased 18-months old toddler were injured in the crash.
In his condolence statement, Mnangagwa said his government was going to assist all the victims. “Whilst investigations are still underway, it has come to my attention that all three members of the crew perished in the crash,” said President Mnangagwa.
“Even more heart-wrenching is the information that the helicopter crashed on a house claiming one other life and injuring a mother and a child.
“As we await details concerning this tragic incident, may I, on behalf of the party Zanu PF, Government, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, and on my behalf, express my deepest condolences to relatives of the airmen and the child who perished in this rare incident.”
He wished a speedy recovery to the injured, adding that Government will do its utmost to ensure they receive urgent medical attention while the deceased are laid to rest with befitting dignity and honour

In the past few days we have seen a lot of irrational decisions done by the govt of Zim through Parliament all in an effort to consolidate power.
Recently the Senate voted to pass the Constitutional Amendment bill #1, a bill from previous Parliament which is against the spirit of Constitutionalism which the parliament stands for as the Constitution of Zim (s147 clearly states that bill, motions and any other business lapses on the dissolution of Parliament & can never be forwarded to the next Parliament.) This violations of the Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land must never go unchallenged.
Again on Tuesday 20th April , the national assembly voted 191 to 22 votes to pass the Constitutional Amendment bill #2 . The shredding of our supreme law must be stopped. The Constitution of Zim was a product of the will of the people. It was a Constitution of the people, by the people and for the people.
Any changes to the Constitution must be people centered. We know that the cosmetic interviews which were conducted during the covid 19 pandemic , the few people who managed to contribute said no to the bill. As citizens we sought the audience of both the govt and Parliament instead they responded by arresting us.
We stand against the #CAB2 because it seeks to enhance and legalise dictatorship, bad governance & corruption. Ladies and gentlemen the issue of the CAB2 goes beyond the issue of democracy Constitutionalism & human right. It threatens our stomachs, our livelihoods. Do not look at the case of Chilonga and Dinde in isolation. This is what is contained in the bill, where the govt has the power to enter into business relations with foreign entities without public scrutiny through Parliament. It means that the govt won’t account to anyone, the principle of separation of powers through arms of state wc are executive, Parliament & judiciary will be defeated as power will be concentrated in the executive only. So more communal land will be given away to Chinese.
We must stand up against the bill we all stand to loose if the bill becomes law. It is meant to benefit a few elites who are in power.

The 18-month-old toddler identified as Jade Fenyere, was sleeping with her twin sister, Jada, when the chopper plunged into their house.
Jada escaped with burns together with the mother who later tried to rescue them.

There is a video circulating where a certain lady is mentioning the name of the Vice President in extortion related cases.
In the video, the lady is also appealing to minister Kazembe to investigate the alleged extortion cases involving Chiwenga.

Linda Sphiwe Mpofu from Bulawayo’s Barbourfields suburb begged the court to protect her from her marauding ex-lover Brenda Mugabazi.
Linda told the Bulawayo Civil Court that she is now living in fear for her life as Brenda did not take the break-up well. She alleged that her ex-lover is violent and abusive and is now stalking her and threatening her for daring to end the relationship.
“On 25 December 2020, she beat me up and I sustained a swollen left knee and foot and I am still limping up to now. Whenever she meets me, she harasses me and declares that I can’t leave her,” reports B-Metro
According to a clearly distraught Linda, Brenda has an insatiable sexual appetite and is always demanding sex from her despite the fact that they are no longer together. In fact, Brenda is alleged to be demanding sex as a way of punishing Linda for leaving her.
Linda also claimed that she now wants to live “a normal life” and accused Brenda of having forced her into being a lesbian.
“I have been living a lesbian life with Brenda (Mugabazi) who forced me into it and I have realised that I cannot continue with it… I am begging the honourable court to grant me a protection order against her…This is because I want to live a normal life again.”
Following the assault that occurred on Christmas Day, Linda was granted an interim protection order in January after she told the court that she was terrified of Brenda’s abuse and sex demands.
She revealed that her situation had worsened as Brenda has been constantly threatening her saying that she will never let her go because she (Linda) is her wife.
By A Correspondent- Serious power struggles have hit the African Apostolic Church (AAC), and are threatening to further spit the apostolic sect.
The church already has two factions which are lead by Apostle Paul Mwazha’s second born son, Alfred Kushamisa and last born son, Tawanda Israel is likely to split agin fowwing the return of Ngonidzashe to the church.
Ngonidzashe, is the eldest son of the founder of the church.
According to Manica Post, Ngonidzashe, who all along was a member of Johane Marange Apostolic Church, has since reverted to his father’s church and is now enjoying considerable support within the AAC.
His recent sermons such as the well-attended Eastview pilgrimage last Saturday in Harare are evidence of how some members of the church are warming up to him.
The elderly AAC leader, Apostle Mwazha, popularly referred to as Mudzidzisi, Mutumwa or Archbishop, turns 103 this year.
The Mwazha divisions, which are not only felt in Zimbabwe, but in neighbouring South Africa and Botswana, have seen each of the formations appointing its own pastors and leaders while conducting services at different places of worship.
When contacted for comment, Chiseko Mwazha, who is also Apostle Mwazha’s son and is backing Tawanda Israel, said he was not aware of the splits.
“We do not know anything about the existence of another faction in the church. If someone is conducting their church services elsewhere, it is their business and we know nothing about that.
“We are only doing what we were told by Mutumwa (Apostle Mwazha). All the leaders and pastors in our church were appointed by Mutumwa. Whatever others are doing has nothing to do with us,” said Chiseko.
Speaking on Ngonidzashe’s moves, Chiseko said the elder Mwazha is not part of AAC.
“Ngonidzashe did not return to us. He is not part of our church as far as we are concerned,” said Chiseko.
However, in a video taken in Harare last Saturday, which this newspaper is in possession of, Ngonidzashe is seen leading one of the AAC sermons with hundreds of congregants in attendance.
Alfred Kushamisa and Tawanda Israel were not part of that congregation.
Sources in the church confided in this newspaper that Ngonidzashe has gained popularity in the church owing to his healing powers that are believed to be a blessing from Archbishop Mwazha.
One of the nagging points in Ngonidzashe’s return, however, is that he is a
polygamist, something that is not acceptable within AAC.
It is understood that a clause in the church’s standing rules stipulates that a polygamist can join the church, but will not be entrusted with a leadership role.
ACC secretary-general, Richard Juru, who is aligned to Alfred Kushamisa, refused to entertain questions from this publication.
“I cannot say anything about that issue. You can talk to Bishop AK himself,” he said.
Another Alfred Kushamisa sympathiser as well as the church’s publicity chairman, Patrick Tawanda Tafa’s mobile phone went unanswered.
Alfred Kushamisa, Tawanda Israel and Ngonidzashe were unreachable.
As the ACC drama continues to unfold, contrasting messages on who should be the Archbishop’s successor have been thrown around.
An audio clip purportedly recorded at a leadership meeting in the presence of Apostle Mwazhawas widely circulated among church members as a church leader – allegedly under the instruction from Apostle Mwazha – pronounced that Alfred Kushamisa is the rightful heir to the church’s throne.
In that clip, Tawanda Israel was given the role of administering the Holy Communion or annual last supper rites. In sharp contrast to that communiqué, in a video clip that was reportedly recorded in South Africa during a Passover gathering, Apostle Mwazha was captured saying Tawanda is his chosen successor.
“My son Tawanda is the one who was chosen by God to be my successor. God visited him in his house. He received my spiritual gift,” said Apostle Mwazha to wild applause.
But as more tension festers in the church, it has emerged that the fights go deeper than the leadership issue, amid stunning revelations that even prayer methods have been part of disharmony in one of the country’s leading indigenous churches.
Reliable sources within the church revealed that there have always been existing differences within the church, adding that the festering tension has only manifested through the succession wrangles.
Long and personal prayers, widely known within the church as “tsindondi”, have been a source of disharmony, with the church’s Board of Trustees insisting on pre-written and recited prayers.
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander, General Philip Valerio Sibanda, has opened up on farm inversion allegations.
Sibanda was last week in the media on allegations that he invaded Goede Hoop Farm in Mazowe.
Responding to the allegations, this week ZDF director public relations Colonel Teddy Ndlovu, said the army Boss had never set his foot at the alleged farm.
“ The farm in question had not been allocated to General Sibanda, who had never visited the farm. However, one of the four sections of the farm had been divided into acquisition and had been allocated to the army and the police as corporate entities”, he said.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has mourned the two Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) pilots and a technician, who perished after a helicopter crashed in the Chinyika area of Goromonzi, Mashonaland East Province yesterday.
The crash also killed an 18-month-old toddler identified as Jade Fenyere, who was sleeping in the house with her twin sister Jada, who escaped with burn injuries together with the mother who later tried to rescue them.
The mother and Jada were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and later transferred to Trauma Centre in Borrowdale for treatment, and were reportedly in a stable condition last night.
The deceased AFZ members are Flight- Lieutenant Annita Mapiye who is Zimbabwe’s first female helicopter fighter pilot, Wing Commander Tinashe Thomas Mapiye and Flight Sergeant Chikamhi.
Flight-Lt Mapiye is said to have joined the AFZ in 2012 and had recently given birth.
The cause of the crash will be established after an aircraft accident investigation.
In a statement yesterday, President Mnangagwa said he learnt with great sorrow and grief the fatal air crash involving one of the AFZ helicopters, which was on routine training in the Goromonzi area.
“While investigations are still underway, it has come to my attention that all three members of the crew perished in the crash,” said President Mnangagwa.
“Even more heart-wrenching is the information that the helicopter crashed on a rondavel, claiming one other life and injuring a mother and a child.
“As we await details concerning this tragic incident, may I, on behalf of the party Zanu-PF, Government, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, and on my behalf, express my deepest condolences to relatives of the airmen and the child who perished in this rare incident.”
The President wished a speedy recovery to the injured, adding that Government will do its utmost to ensure they receive urgent medical attention while the deceased are laid to rest with befitting dignity and honour.
The helicopter, an Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412), crashed into a house at Plot 2 of Gardner Road, Ward 16 in Goromonzi.
The AFZ, in a statement, said the helicopter was from Number 8 Sqn at Manyame Air Force Base (Manyame AFB), which was on a general handling training sortie in the Seke-Domboshava Training Area.
The AFZ said when contact could not be established with the aircraft, the Manyame Air Base activated a search and rescue operation, which resulted in the aircraft wreckage being identified.
Commander AFZ, Air Marshal Elson Moyo, said a dark cloud had engulfed the AFZ after news of the helicopter accident.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives after the unfortunate accident. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured after the accident,” he said.
Father to the deceased girl, Mr Joseph Fenyere who owns Plot 2, said he was not at home when the mishap occurred.
“I was informed that a helicopter had crashed into the house after deflecting from a tree branch at a hilly platform a few metres away and burst into flames.
“When the house caught fire, my three children; twin girls, Jade and Jada were asleep inside, while their four-year-old sibling, Dean, was seated in the doorway,” said Mr Fenyere.
Upon hearing the ear-piercing burst, the mother and other people on the scene took flight but she later tried to retrieve her children from the burning house.
By then, Jade had already died while Dean was out of danger.

“In a master stroke, Zanu-PF agreed to this contentious clause on proviso that it would be held in abeyance for 10 years. It now appears the opposition, clearly out of depth as always, thought Zanu-PF had given in to their law-making whim,” boasted George Charamba
“It never occurred to them Zanu-PF merely conceded without ceding an inch of strategic ground. The running mate clause was unacceptable to Zanu-PF both on grounds of principle and because of unsavoury experiences of the same.”
He was commenting of the Constitutional Amendment Bill No 2, recently passed by parliament, which has effectively amended 27 different sections of the 2013 Zimbabwe Constitutions. One of the amendments scraps the need for presidential candidates to have running mates. An elected VP will have the electoral mandate and confidence to assert his/her independence; as contrast to one appointed by the President and whose tenure can be terminated at the drop of a hat.
“I point this out to expose the fallacy which is being touted by easy journalists and commentators that the current President is responsible for scrapping of the running mate in order to consolidate his hold on power and to block Vice-President Chiwenga in Zanu-PF succession matrix,” explained Charamba.
“Of course, I am charmed to note that these commentators in that false reasoning admit that the future belongs to Zanu-PF. On that aspect alone, they are very right!
“What the current President is doing is merely accomplishing Zanu-PF’s will which was agreed on, under the then late President Robert Mugabe’s leadership.”
In other words, Zanu PF outwitted MDC to have a clause suspending the running mate clause for ten years 2013 to 2023 and now, before the suspension period was over, passed an amendment scrapping the clause altogether. Job done!
“Amendment Bill Number 2 is the single deadliest blow to our constitutionalism so far,” charged Dzikamai Bere, ZimRights National Director.
“It is a tragedy that the people who claim to represent the people of Zimbabwe are acting with impunity against the very people they purport to represent. I hope the people will punish them for this treasonous act.”

Right or wrong, the MPs have the constitutional power and authority to amend the country’s constitution. How can they be guilty of treason for exercising their constitutional power?
However it would be a different matter if Bere said the MPs are committing high treason because they are usurpers; they do not have the people’s democratic mandate to govern the country because the July 2018 elections were not free, fair and credible. There is no denying Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections.
“The (Zimbabwe) electoral commission (ZEC) lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability. Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards,” stated the EU Election Observer Mission final report.
3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora were denied the vote and ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake!
George Charamba is not the first Zanu PF official to boast of outwitting the MDC opposition with disastrous consequences to the nation. As soon as it was clear the nation had approved the 2013 Constitution; Paul Mangwana, Zanu PF co-chairperson on the parliamentary committee that drafted the document, boasted that Mugabe “dictated” the constitution.
MDC leaders had campaigned for a yes vote in the referendum on the new Constitution. Morgan Tsvangirai even claimed the new constitution was “an MDC child”! All nonsense, of course as the new constitution failed its most important litmus test – deliver free, fair and credible elections. And now it is clear even those few clauses that Zanu PF had allowed to be included in the constitution the party was using its dictatorial powers to rig elections and secure absolute majority to amend at leisure!
“As ZimRights, we are against the attempt to push back into the Constitution what the people had rejected during the Constitution-making process,” argued ZimRights national chairperson Takesure Musiiwa.
Zimbabwe’s 2013 Constitution has failed to deliver or guarantee any of our democratic freedoms and rights notable the right to free, fair and credible elections. Whatever freedoms and rights it gives in one section it takes them all away in the next; it is a dictator’s creed. It is naïve, to say the least, to expect a dictator like Mugabe to dictate a democratic constitution.
The real clever bit is that Zanu PF not only sold the nation a dictator’s creed disguised as a democratic constitution but that even now with all the evidence of rigged elections some people still pretend the elections were free and fair and the dictator’s creed is an exemplary democratic constitution!
There is no one more blind that he who would close his eyes and mind to the truth! It is bad enough anyone should close their eyes to the truth Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by vote rigging thugs precisely because we have a dictator’s creed for a constitution. It is little wonder Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess, the entire opposition camp, civic society and millions of ordinary citizens have all elected to close their eyes and minds. Can you believe that we have a CEO of National Broadcaster, who has a sports qualification? How many people in the market, who have DBA (Doctor in Business Administration), yet today, we have a CEO of ZBC with an Events qualification? Can this be possible under a theme entitled “New Dispensation”, or “Second Republic?” Impossible !!!
Take note of the following:
1. Looting and plundering of national resources is just too much
Gold and precious minerals are not finding their way to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, and there is too much looting, and nothing is happening. The Great Dyke minerals, Midlands belt, and this is inclusive of Zvishavane, Kwekwe, Gweru, Gokwe, and many other places, and there is too much silence from the Executive, and this does not give a good reflection of servant leadership.
2. Criminals have regrouped around you
Unfortunately, they will never come out in the open, until an explosion takes place in the near future. I want to believe, the very purported to be in good books with you, those who pretend to love you, have regrouped in the name of “the last line of defense”, who will be denouncing you in the near future, have surrounded you, feeding you with wrong information.
3. Drop all the politics, and focus on development
The whole nation is chocked with politics. We witnessed recalling of legislators, grabbing of farms, eviction of opposition leader from Harvest House, clamping down of activists, and many other narratives, and this does not give a good reflection of the new dispensation or second republican. No major projects, we are simply witnessing politics.
4. Amending the Constitution is not necessary
Why amending the constitution? The Constitutional making process which took place from 2009-2013 has been reversed. All the Economic gains have been shuttered. Those around you will never give you an honest opinion on what is exactly on the ground. How do we then expect the increase of FDI? No meaningful strategic engagements with credible international partners.
5. The ground is not looking good for you
We are experiencing a light-weight Presidency, and the value of the Presidency is slowly fading away, and the grassroots is now taking your Honourable office as a “Common Office”. There is a need for you to restore value, as State Presidency.
6. You must be felt on the ground
A few weeks ago, we witnessed the official opening of a bridge; though it was a political score, it was not expected from a Head of State, to fly to Karande, to open a single footbridge. You have Deputy Ministers, and local Government officials or traditional Chiefs were alternatively the best, to offer such a service.
7. State House must be strictly for “State functions”
State House is an important place for you as the Head of State, which common people must never hoover around such a beautiful place. State House, should never be commonplace. It must add value to your Honourable office. We saw the likes of Chebundo, Timveous, and many others defecting to the ruling party, and they were paraded on those such important offices, and this gives the impression that State residency, is now commonplace, which is popularly known as ” Plot Number 1″.
7. You must be felt on the ground
We need more volume, on why you are in that important Office. We need direction as a nation, on where we are going. Towns must reflect new ideas, new thoughts, the face of Harare and Bulawayo cities must reflect leadership. We have old Infrastructure, our roads have become death traps, and we have too many groundbreaking ceremonies, there must be a new developmental path or milestone.
8. Put a Valve on Corruption in the public sector
Corruption has been rampant in the whole public sector. No signs of improvement. No meaningful arrests and people may be tempted to think, you are part of the looting scheme. Public officials, senior Government officials who have been fingered in highly profiled cases in the country have remained in their positions, which makes your position weaker to fight the graft. Your neighbouring friend, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, has dropped several public officials as a sign of singling out corruption.
9. We need a Sound Development Policy
We don’t have a proper Economic Recovery plan to deal with the current trajectory. We don’t have a proper National Development plan in place to rebuild our country. We have a fragile economy with no proper apparatus in place to achieve targeted projections.
10. Tribal card has divided our country
It’s all about Midlands or Masvingo clan in our Government and State structures. The Government has now flooded with people from Masvingo or Midlands clan, which does not reflect servant leadership. Key Ministerial portfolios have been awarded to individuals from these two provinces leaving out the whole chunk of 8 provinces, and we risk putting our country in flames. You have an obligation to unite the country.
11. Your legacy
You must be worried about your legacy, as a Head of State. You are remaining with two solid years, as Head of State, perhaps before renewing your contract with the people of Zimbabwe in 2023, what is it that you can show them that you were in that position? You need to be remembered, your kids would want to enjoy meals in town, there is life after politics, you want to walk in town without any escort, you would love to be given the title ” father Zimbabwe”, or ” Uncle ED”, and you would love to drive around without any bodyguards, and buildings which you engineered should be named after you, what is it that we can name after you? You don’t need to open buildings that were opened during Mugabe’s era, you should come up with your own initiatives, and this must happen now.
12. Go through your Facebook posts (2014-2017)
I was going through your Facebook posts, from 2014 to 2017, and I almost wept. I could not believe, it was your page. In times like these, it is important to reflect on your leadership and take the simple route of servant leadership.
13. Government must stop working on TV
What comes out of ZTV, is different from the reality on the ground. We need more TV stations, State of the Art hospitals, state of the art school of medicine, we need spaghetti roads etc. We need more radio stations. Honestly, Mr President, we have one TV station since independence? What has gone wrong with us?
14. The weakest cabinet
The whole central Government is at its weakest point. There is a total disconnection between the State and ordinary citizens. No one cares about what is happening in the Government. Take time to reflect on this, no one is bothered with what is happening in the country. No one has time to watch ZTV, if you ask who is the Minister of Tourism, no one cares much about that. During Mugabe’s era, I would recite all Government officials, Ministers, and ask an individual in the streets to name just three Ministers, you will be lucky to get only two, and it is a sign of a light-weight Presidency. This needs to be sorted.

By Jane Mlambo| Perjury accused aide to the controversial land baron Kenneth Raydon Sharpe, Michael John Van Blerk was yesterday slapped with a warranty of arrest after he failed to show up at the Harare Magistrates Court for routine remand.
Van Blerk is answering to charges of malicious damage to property after conniving with City of Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango, his boss Ken Sharpe, Isaiah Zvenyika Chawatama and three others to destroy a showhouse built by Harare businessman George Katsimberis at at Plot 9 of 21 on consolidated stand number 19559 of 19828 Harare township Corner Teviotdale and Whitwell road, Borrowdale.

According to the state, the eight are facing charges of malicious damage to property as defined in section 140 of the criminal law ( codification and reform) Act chapter 9:23.
“In that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from July 2018 to October 2018 and at Plot 9 of 21 on consolidated stand number 19559 of 19828 Harare township Corner Teviotdale and Whitwell road, Borrowdale, Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited, Michael John Van Blerk, Mandla Marlone Ndebele, City of Harare, Hosiah Chisango, Isaiah Zvenyika Chawatama, Samuel Nyabezi, Lasten Taonezvi and Kenneth Raydon Sharpe who is still at large.

“One more of them, knowing that Georgios Katsimberis is entitled to own, possess or control any property or realising that there was a real risk or possibility that another person may be so entitled, damaged or destroyed the property intending to cause such damage or destruction or realising that there is a real risk or possibility that such damage or destruction may result from their act destroyed a show house which had been constructed by Georgios Katsimberis for a joint venture between Georgios Katsimberis and Kenneth Sharpe,” read the summons.
The state alleges that Van Blerk and two others contravened Section 136 of the criminal law (codification and Reform) Act chapter 9:23.
“In that on a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the period extending from July 2018 to September 2018 and at Harare, Pokugara Properties (Private) Limited, Michael John Van Blerk and Mandla Marlone Ndebele one or more of them misrepresented to City of Harare by failing or refusing to disclose that a house built on plot 9 of 21 on consolidated stand number 19559 of 19828 Harare township corner Teviotdale and Whitwell road, Borrowdale Harare was built with an approved plan dated 1 March 2017 plan WX609 and refused and or failed to advise the complainant Georgios Katsimberis that a show house that a show house that had been built on the above mentioned stand was facing demolition or need representation to stop demolitions before the accused persons started demolishing the house.”
Jailed Robert Martin Gumbura on Friday lost his freedom bid after regional magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo dismissed his bail application on changed circumstances on a matter in which he is accused of attempting a jailbreak at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison along with other inmates.
Mr Mapfumo dismissed his application saying once freed, Gumbura was likely to abscond trial.
Mr Mapfumo said Gumbura was already in custody serving a jail term on other charges and it makes no sense releasing him on bail.
Gumbura applied for bail on changed circumstances arguing that he had approached the Supreme Court seeking a bail pending appeal.
He had also argued that he had applied for stay of proceedings at the High Court.
Police in Nyazura, Manicaland, on Wednesday exhibited a high degree of professionalism when they resisted a US$9 000 bribe dangled by members of a smuggling syndicate.
They arrested six of them and recovered a huge number of second hand clothing bales laden on six trucks believed to have been destined for Harare.
Seven more smugglers, six of them foreigners, were arrested in Binga a day earlier as they loaded 275 clothing bales onto a 15-tonne DAF truck as law enforcement agents intensify operations against smuggling.
In Nyazura, four suspects were first intercepted and arrested but two men appeared and offered the officers a bribe of US$9 000, which the officers turned down and immediately arrested them.
The first four suspects in this case were arrested after a high-speed chase with officers who ended up shooting the tyres of the fleeing suspects’ vehicles.
Two other trucks managed to evade the police but were later found dumped near Headlands.
As police interrogated the four suspects, two people appeared and attempted to bribe them with US$9 000 cash but the officerswould have none of it and immediately arrested the other two.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of contraband of shoes and clothes at Tsungwesi Bridge, onApril 20, 2021, following an ambush by a combined security services team on a special operation against smuggling in Manicaland.
“The team blocked the road as the suspects’ six vehicles tried to flee from the scene, resulting in two of the vehicles having their tyres shot. The two trucks were found abandoned later.
“The security services team managed to stop two other trucks and the four occupants were arrested, while two other trucks were found dumped near Headlands. As the security service members were carrying out some investigations two men appeared and offered them a bribe of US$9 000 cash, leading to their arrest, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to six,” Ass Comm Nyathi said.
By A Correspondent| Local government minister July Moyo has dismissed as ‘frivolous and malicious’, a High Court challenge filed by former City of Harare councillor Warship Dumba seeking to reverse a joint venture agreement which saw City of Harare ‘fraudulently’ transferring vast tracts of land to Augur Invesments OU, a company owned by controversial land baron Kenneth Raydon Sharpe.
Dumba together with another Harare resident Knowledge Tinashe Kwambana and the Zimbabwe Homeless People Federation approached the High Court to have the joint venture agreement that culminated in the formation of Sunshine Development Private Limited company declared null and void.
To Dumba and his co-litigants, Sunshine Development was just a vehicle to corruptly extract land from the City of Harare as Sharpe did not deliver on any of the set projects yet land had already been transferred.

They also argue that the land provided by City of Harare as its contribution to the joint venture agreement is worth over US$45 Million yet Augur with its US$20 to US$30 Million contribution was allocated 70 percent shares in Sunshine Development Private Limited.
City of Harare was allocated 30 percent shares despite putting in 99 hectares of land.
Dumba and his co-litigants also claim that another 145 hectares of land was secretly transferred to Sunshine Development taking the cumulative total to 244 hectares.
Sharpe on the other hand did not put anything into the agreement, this made the litigants conclude that Sunshine Development was just a conduit for stealing land from City of Harare with the protection of the central government.

In his response, Moyo did not offer any explanation, choosing to question the locus standi of the applicants whom he said have no entitlement to the order they seek.
“The applicants has not shown beyond reasonable doubt that they are entitled to the order they seek. Their application is frivolous and malicious,” said Moyo.
He further refuted claims of fraud in the manner in which the agreement to form Sunshine Development Private Limited was reached, saying the commission which was running the affairs of the city at that material time, executed its duties efficiently.
“There was no fraud involved during the execution of the agreements. The applicants are put to strictest proof. The commission executed its duties efficiently,” said Moyo.
In what represents one of the biggest land frauds in the history of Harare, former Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo appointed a commission to run the affairs of Harare led by Michael Mahachi.

The Mahachi Commission then entered into a Memorandum of Understanding and a Shareholder Agreement with Augur Investments on the 4th of September 2007 barely a day after it was registered in Estonia.
Dumba and his co-litigants argued that both Chombo and Mahachi who drove these agreements were motivated by self-interests.
In their High Court appeal, Dumba and his co-litigants sued Augur Investments, July Moyo, Kenneth Raydon sharpe, Tatiana Aleshina, Michael Van Blerk, Sunshine Development Private Limited, Registrar of Deeds and Registrar of Companies.
Millionaire businessman Frank Buyanga has been placed on Interpol’s Red Notice at the request of Zimbabwean police, freshly-leaked documents show.
The 41-year-old gold coins trader – who has squared off with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family – is accused of abducting his six-year-old son in March last year before skipping the country.
ZimLive has seen a 21-page file of police documents showing frenetic communications between police investigators, their bosses, Interpol and even the foreign ministry as authorities seek his extradition from South Africa.
Contained in the documents is a June 2020 letter from Interpol which confirms that Buyanga was placed on Interpol’s Red Notice following a written request from Zimbabwean police sent on May 4, 2020. The letter to the officer commanding Law and Order in Harare was signed by an Assistant Commissioner S.G. Ndou, the deputy director of Interpol Harare.
An Interpol Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and apprehend a person of interest. Typically, this happens when the suspect presents at an airport of a participating country.
Buyanga’s listing had until now been unknown outside the small circle of investigators and prosecutors because Interpol did not publish his name on its website – a deliberate tactic to avoid spooking a target who is less likely to travel if they become aware of a Red Notice against their name.
Last weekend, a US$3 million Bugatti Chiron owned by Buyanga was seen being driven on the streets of Cape Town, tailed by two top-of-the-range BMWs. It was not clear if he was in any of the vehicles, as videos and pictures posted on Twitter did not show the drivers.
It was speculated last week that Buyanga, who was claimed in court papers that his companies conduct business worth 2 percent of South Africa’s GDP every year, had fallen on hard times after he put up one of his houses in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, up for sale for R18 million (US$1.2 million).
Buyanga has a long-running custody battle for their son with his ex-girlfriend Chantelle Muteswa, which has been to every court in Zimbabwe.
Last year, the British-born tycoon showed reporters an entry into a visitors’ book at State House, claiming Muteswa went to meet Auxillia Mnangagwa, the president’s wife.
Buyanga subsequently accused Muteswa of being in a romantic affair with the first family’s twin son, Collins. This was followed by further allegations – denied by the Mnangagwas – that they were interfering with law enforcement and judges to frustrate his efforts to gain custody of his son.
The drama took a shock turn on March 26 last year when the couple’s son, who was a passenger in a Honda Fit parked outside a supermarket in Harare, was grabbed movie-style and driven away at high speed.
Muteswa filed a police complaint, accusing Buyanga of being behind the abduction. Hours later, Buyanga wrote to police stating that he had, days earlier, filed his own complaint that his son had been abducted from a school by Muteswa, and no action had been taken.
He said in his letter to Highlands police: “I filed a police report for contempt of court with you on March 11, 2020, after the mother of my son, Chantelle Muteswa, failed to comply with a court order which states that my access was extended to allow me to give accommodation to the minor child and sped off with the child.
“I hereby write this letter to notify you that I have recovered my son at Parktown shops in Harare.”
The police documents obtained by ZimLive show that if Buyanga is successfully extradited, he will face three charges of kidnapping, robbery and contempt of court.
The robbery charge relates to a claim by Muteswa that she lost a handbag containing US$2,000 when Buyanga allegedly snatched their son. The contempt of court charge, police say, relates to an April 17, 2020, ruling of the High Court ordering Buyanga to return the child to Muteswa, which he has failed to comply with.
Buyanga’s lawyers have written to Interpol insisting that the Zimbabwean authorities’ pursuit of him is driven by Mnangagwa and his family, and he would not get justice if extradited.
Buyanga also faces legal troubles in South Africa after the South African Revenue Service (SARS) seized gold coins weighing over 565kg, personal jewellery, watches and other property during a raid at the Hyde Park home of his girlfriend, which he has now put up for sale.
The Kruger coins are worth over R600 million (US$40 million), Buyanga said in a Pretoria High Court filing where he is demanding their return.
Her deep-rooted passion for law and love of space drove her to relentlessly pursue her dream of combining the two into one career to become a space lawyer.
Ruvimbo Samanga (25)
A space lawyer supports governmental or commercial space activities by attending meetings and negotiations, drafting and reviewing documents.
Space law is the law governing outer space.
Meet Zimbabwe’s first and only space lawyer, Ms Ruvimbo Samanga (25) of Bulawayo.
She works at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa as a consultant on geographic information systems (GIS) policy.
Ms Samanga said part of her job is to help come up with a Sadc regional policy framework and standards to help GIS practitioners to use GIS in a way that is beneficial and sustainable for development with particular specialisation in the traditional and New Space industry in Africa.
She said space technologies have a role to play in policy and legal affairs as they are a sector of human activity.
Article VI of the Outer Space Treaty designates responsibility to states in creating national space laws that legitimate their activities in outer space (Outer Space Treaty, 1967).
“Just like the activities we regulate through laws here on Earth, space too also has legal principles that need to be adhered to. Likewise, you will frequently encounter contractual law, environmental law, dispute resolution law and even intellectual property law as part of space law practice,” she said.
“As we know, any activity subscribes itself to norms and standards. Even as beings we live our lives according to our own precepts.
Likewise, technology laws and policies have emerged to better allow us to use technology and applications in a way that is safe, secure and sustainable, including through cybersecurity and data-sharing policies.”
Born in Bulawayo on November 6, 1995, Ms Samanga attended Whitestone Primary School and Dominican Convent Secondary School. She graduated in 2017 with an LLB degree with specialisation in law, psychology, criminology, sociology, anthropology, French and Spanish from the University of Pretoria.
She then pursued a second undergraduate degree with the same university in law, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws in 2018, specialising in Moot Court (a mock trial competition for law students), International Business Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Deeds & Notarial Practice.
In 2019 she attained a Masters in International Trade & Investment Law in Africa, specialising in Trade, Investment, Economics and Human Rights (University of Pretoria)
Ms Samanga serves as a research fellow at the Open Lunar Foundation, focusing her research on lunar settlement and development policy.
She was this year named by CNN as one of the three women shaping the future of the African space industry.
In 2019, she won the Zimbabwe Young Achiever of the Year Award and last year she was honoured by the UN Space Generation Advisory Council with the African Space Leaders Awards.
Ms Samanga was also awarded the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship in 2019. She has also been recognised as one of the top 10 Under 30 in the African space industry by Space in Africa, a Nigerian space consultant firm and was recently recognised as one of the Top Talents Under 25 in the world by Generation ZEO, a German magazine.
She holds a Masters in International Trade & Investment Law from the University of Pretoria and currently represents Zimbabwe in the Space Generation Advisory Council and the Women in Aerospace Africa Chapter.
She is also the founder of AgriSpace, an early stage Agri-tech startup developed in collaboration with the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, as a Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen scholar in residence.
AgriSpace is an agricultural services solutions provider for mainly small but also medium to large-scale farmers to adopt digital technologies to improve processes, boost their yield, increase profitability and assist to meet the growing global food demand by lowering the overall environmental impact of farming.
“AgriSpace is a geospatial solutions provider operating here in Zimbabwe using satellite data and geospatial technology to create modified farming solutions for farmers in drought-prone Zimbabwe. We hope to support food security by giving farmers all the necessary data and information that they need to optimize their farming production since Zimbabwe is an agro-based nation,” said Ms Samanga.
“What we do is that we take satellite data and use that to get farmers the information that they need to optimise their crop yields. We use various open-source data frameworks, and that data is then synthetised into our software which we place into a web-based platform for our farmers to use from any mobile device.”
Ms Samanga said she wants to set the pace for young people in the development of space ecosystems. “Being a traditional Government oriented and dominated industry, I really want to be a youth pioneer to develop this industry in a way that will benefit us in the future and will include us in the future,” she said.
A keen space enthusiast, Ms Samanga is also involved in various capacity-building and policy development initiatives in the global space sector.
“Space law is a very new field and unfortunately every time there is a new, developing and emerging economy, you will find practitioners who come in and set the standards. This is why as a space lawyer, I have invested so much time because this is my actual time to steer the narrative,” she said. Ms Samanga said through her work at the UN, the idea is to use space in Africa for sustainable development in a way that is more beneficial and accessible to individuals and institutions on the continent.
“Space laws don’t tackle third-generation issues for Africa because they don’t really matter. When we are talking of third-generation issues, we will be referring to extra planet explorations, going to Mars and the moon and those are the things that shouldn’t be in our immediate scope,” she said.
Ms Samanga said while space is very feasible, there is a lack of space education, particularly in Africa.
“Whenever I encounter questions about space, I hear people say ‘oh, you are talking about rockets. Well, that is not the case, it really is a matter of sustainable development. We have come to use space in a way that is very ingenious in Africa,” she said.
“We have countries that use space for health care, telemedicine, mineral mapping, environmental management, wildlife monitoring, telecommunications. There is a broad spectrum of uses of space.”
Ms Samanga said the uptake of space in Zimbabwe will require re-skilling of the population.
“However, I am hopeful now that the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency has been launched, we will see the new proliferation of space education and space policy in the country,” she said.
The national space agency was launched in 2018 as Government affirms its commitment to allow students and young professionals the opportunity to explore the space industry and use the knowledge to improve agriculture, disease surveillance and infrastructure.
Ms Samanga said despite Zimbabwe having established a space agency, the country including many other space-faring African countries, lack a coordinated Earth Observation (EO) legal framework.
“Such a policy would envision a common data and satellite sharing framework for Africa, investment in research and development in EO data capabilities and technologies, as well as capacity building through international collaborations.
“When I did my research in Zimbabwe, I found out that there are actually a lot of space professionals, people who are actually engaging in space systems but not knowing,” said Ms Samanga.
“If you log onto the internet, call someone, withdraw from the ATM, watch television, you are using a satellite system and these are the things that are well integrated into our society. The question is how can we use space in a sustainable way?”
“Law is the bedrock and foundation of all human activities. You need law to give you certainty, a structure and a strategy and I feel that law in Africa is very haphazard and has been left to allow certain individuals to capitalise, but at the end of the day, the law should favour even the lowest member of society.”
Ms Samanga said the best space faring countries in the world are the ones that began with policy which led to the establishment of the constitution of a space agency, which then launched a rocket or satellite.
“My interest in understanding water resource management came about during my formative years growing up in Bulawayo. Dry spells within the region were common and this resulted in a seasonal shortage of water supply,” she said.
“In 2020 when I became a Ban Ki-moon Global Citizen Scholar, I was privileged to meet a fellow Zimbabwean, Ms Tafadzwa Sachikonye, who was equally passionate about water resource management, and had founded a project known as Water Clix, which seeks to improve waste-water systems and management in urban settlements in Zimbabwe.”
She said she explored synergies between Water Clix and her own project, which incorporated space technologies for agriculture management.
“I wondered whether we might find use for GIS and remote-sensing in water management too, which of course we did. I am most excited to merge sustainable development for water management with space technologies, because it is scalable, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective in the long run,” said Ms Samanga.
“It also ushers Zimbabwe into a 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) era and widens the scope for technological innovation in a previously technologically sheltered region. Working on the space laws and policies behind these interventions is empowering, because I am helping to lay the bedrock for these initiatives to find legitimacy and longevity as part of Government’s strategy for socio-economic development.”
Using her experience and personal journey, Ms Samanga is inspiring youths in Zimbabwe, especially girls to dream big and be able to achieve their goals.
Ms Samanga, with the help of a colleague, Marco Romero and in collaboration with InnovaSpace and Students for Exploration & Development of Space (Zimbabwe), have conducted a series of lectures on space and space-related themes, using interactive sessions, games, videos, comic books and other learning activities.
To spark space science and technology curiosity among the youth, they developed Astro Zimba Space Education curriculum for young children. Late last year, they launched a pilot study with the Whitestone School in Bulawayo.
“This space education curriculum recognises that building Zimbabwe’s space autonomy is hinged on the nation’s capacity to make a critical mass of skilled individuals. This capacity-building must necessarily begin from the early developmental stages,” said Ms Samanga.
“We come up with this programme in the hopes that more children, especially young girls, will be inspired to take up STEM subjects and careers. We identified a gap in existing curricula in terms of the development of the space industry.”

“In the latest show of cruelty and degrading treatment, Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe was forcibly removed from hospital by prison officials last night against the orders of her doctor who says she needs specialist treatment. She remains gravely ill and was scheduled to see a specialist,” MDC Alliance spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere said in a statement.
The third witness in the trial of suspended University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura has told the court that the former first lady Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe was a ghost student and appeared from nowhere.
Doctor Watch Ruparanganda who was chairman of the department of Sociology and senior lecturer during that period stated that he doesn’t know Mugabe and neither does she also know him.
“Some of the duties of my board was to ensure that the enrolment of the students is in accordance with the regulations.
“I don’t even know Grace Mugabe and even if she was here she wouldn’t have known me, she just appeared from nowhere, and it was through grapevine that I heard that she was graduating with a PHD degree,” he said.
Dr Ruparangada further stated that Mugabe was a ghost student as the board did not have any knowledge of her and the topic she was researching.
“As the board, we were supposed to have known her qualifications to avoid enrolling standard six students.
“Mugabe was supposed to have seen me as the chairman like what other candidates like Thokozani Khupe did,” he said.
Dr Ruparangada said Professor Nyagura knew very well that for one to supervise a PHD candidate, he or she had to have the qualifications but he chose to select an unqualified friend of his to supervise the ghost student.- The Herald
VILLAGERS of Sika in Bindura were left shell-shocked after a 32 year old woman allegedly starved her two year old son to death and secretly buried him.
Portia Chovhani is currently assisting police with investigations after her missing son’s body was exhumed in a garden a week after his death.
Mashonaland Central police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.
“I can confirm a murder case in Bindura where Chovhani led the police to a garden where she had secretly buried her son Tariro Gondo after a tip off,” Dhliwayo said.
“The child is reported to have been sick for sometime due to malnutrition and was allegedly killed on 8 April and the mother decided to secretly bury him in a garden.”
It is further alleged that Chovhani decided to bury the child secretly because villagers had threatened to deal with her if the child dies as she was reported to have been refusing to carry the child to hospital.
Police warned people to take good care of their children and in case of death to inform the community.
“People should understand that children are supposed to be loved and supported by their parents or guardians,” added Dhliwayo.
“In case of death it should be communicated to the community so that they will assist since it is not an individual event.”
A Zvishavane pirate taxi driver (25) has been arrested for allegedly raping a married woman who was also on her menstrual period after giving her a lift from Zvishavane.
The court heard that Mukudzeyi Zhou of Zvishavane allegedly raped the complainant in a bushy area in Shurugwi.
Zhou allegedly ignored the complainant’s plea to stop since she was on her menstrual period and raped her once without using protection. Zhou allegedly dumped the complainant around 8PM along Shurugwi-Gweru road after taking away her cellphone and national identity card.
This was heard during the appearance of Zhou before Gweru regional magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing one count of rape. Zhou pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded in custody to April 26 for judgment.
It is the State’s case that on June 15 last year, the complainant allegedly boarded Zhou’s vehicle at Zvishavane Bus Terminus going to Gweru.
In the vehicle, the court heard was a police jacket, police Outpost magazine and a pair of handcuffs — since the vehicle belongs to a police officer.
The court heard that along the way, Zhou allegedly didn’t pick any passengers stating that he was rushing to his home in Woodlands Park in Gweru.
When he approached dollar turn off along Shurugwi- Gweru road Zhou allegedly told the complainant that he wanted to make a brief detour to pick up a sack of potatoes and it was around 8PM.
The court heard that the complainant agreed without suspecting anything since she thought Zhou was a police officer. Zhou allegedly drove for about 15km and he turned right and drove about 100 metres before stopping the car and switching off the engine.
The court heard that Zhou allegedly dropped the complainant’s seat and ordered her to undress while attempting to strangle her.
The complainant told Zhou she was married and was on her menstrual period.
The court heard that Zhou allegedly ignored her pleas and raped her once without using protection.
After raping the complainant, Zhou forcibly took her smartphone and ordered her to disembark from his vehicle and drove back to Zvishavane.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Zhou’s arrest.- Chronicle
Three new television stations risk losing their licences after failing to pay licensing fees to the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) by the deadline of January 21.
Last year the Government issued six free to air commercial television licences and the owners were given 18 months to roll out operations.
The three stations which were not named, were then given an extension by BAZ to pay their fees by June 30 and failure to that Government will re advertise the licencing.
This was revealed by the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Kindness Paradza to Zimpapers Television Network yesterday.
“BAZ issued six free to air commercial licences last year and out of these six only three have paid up licence fees. The remaining three had issues saying because of Covid they had problems raising the fees, so they asked for an extension and BAZ in its wisdom extended to June 30.
“So, we expect them to have paid off by June 30, failure to do that the Government has no choice but to readvertise these three licences for other new players to come in,” said Deputy Minister Paradza.
According to sources, each of the six companies that were issued with licences were supposed to pay $3,2 million by January 21 this year but the three failed to meet the deadline.
ZTN is one of the six television stations that were awarded national commercial free to air television licences by BAZ last year. Other stations that were given the green light to operate are Rusununguko Media (Pvt) Ltd trading as NRTV, Jester Media trading as 3K TV, Acacia Media Group trading as Kumba TV, Fairtalk Communications trading as Ke Yona TV and Channel Dzimbahwe trading as Channel D.
One of the longest-serving Dendera musicians, Allan Chimbetu says his doors are always open for up-and-coming artistes who want assistance.
Allan is the surviving sibling of Simon, Brian and Naison, who are all credited for promoting Dendera genre.
Having started music in 1992, Allan otherwise known as Professor, feels he has enough experience to be able to nurture new talent and show them the way.
“Technically I started music in 1992 but I would want to start when Simon died in 2005. I made the toughest decision to take over the band. I just told myself that Dendera had to go on despite the death of my brothers,” said Chimbetu.
Given his own challenges, Chimbetu says music is an industry which requires fortitude and courage.
“I had to wake up every day and focus on my music. I faced so many challenges though, especially when there was no will left by the deceased. There were quarrels but my focus was music and it led me to release my first album titled Sonny in 2005 which was well received,” he said.
Chimbetu says if it was not for his passion for music, he could have dumped the band a long time ago.
“I went to the United Kingdom more than 12 times on musical tours with Simon and a number of our band members left and ran away. I remained because of my passion for music and not money,” he said.
Following the death of his siblings some of their children also decided to take up music,
Some fans were divided as to who the real deal in Dendera music was.
Sulu, Tyson, Saaiwe and Douglas are some of the children who decided to take the music route.
Allan says despite a few disagreements here and there, he had managed to pull the family together.
“Yes, there were some disagreements just like any other family but as the remaining father, my mission is to bring the family together, I will not back down to any challenge as I try to bring the family together,” he said.
Recently, Allan teamed up with his son, Sulu on the track Nhodzerai from his latest Urgent matter album.
Besides featuring members of his own family, Allan also teamed up with Australia-based Cozy Cozile on another track Hombarume.
He said he wanted to assist not only members of this family but every artiste.
“It’s high time I help up-and-coming artistes because of the experience I have acquired from the time I started this music business. I’m open to those who want to do music,” said Allan.- Chronicle
Zimbabwe’s first female combat helicopter pilot was killed in a fiery helicopter crash in Arcturus, 32km east of Harare, on Friday.
Thirty-year-old Flight Lieutenant Annita Mapiye, who has flown President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was killed with another pilot, a wing commander, and a technician when an Air Force of Zimbabwe Bell 412 crashed into a house in the Hukuru neighbourhood.
A child who was on the ground died after the helicopter caught fire, while a young girl and her mother are admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare after suffering burns.
Air Force of Zimbabwe commander Air Marshal Elson Moyo issued a statement offering his condolences, but did not name the crash victims.
But friends of Mapiye have been paying tribute to the history-making pilot on social media.
“She recently gave birth and this fact alone has devastated everyone who knew her and worked with her,” a friend said.
The Air Force said the crew, who took off from Manyame Air Force Base, was on a “general handling training sortie” over Seke and Domboshava when they lost contact, triggering a search and rescue effort.
Air Marshal Moyo said an air accident investigation would begin immediately to establish what caused the crash.
Mapiye joined the Air Force in 2012 at the age of 21.
In a 2019 interview, she said: “The road to where I am today was not a walk in the park. We were training with men, carrying out the same duties with them, and we were expected to perform equally.
“That’s when I told myself that I can do what men can do, and that became my everyday motto, and the motto kept me going.”
Mapiye came fifth in the basic military training out of 46 trainees, but would fly until 2015 when she sat in the cockpit of a Genet SF260 Fixed Wing.
She admitted being terrified on her first flight. “My first day flying was a nightmare. I was screaming and my instructor was very annoyed,” she recalled. “I went home scared.”
After finally conquering her fears and passing her flight training, Mapiye enlisted for combat helicopter training. Her dream was to fly the president and rescue missions – both of which she accomplished before her death.
“My word of advice to other women and girls is they should always think positively of themselves and be innovative for change. Build your lives, think smart and be confident,” she said back in 2019.
A CHIKANGA woman recently dragged a Mutare businessman to court demanding $12 000 for the upkeep of her 10-month-old baby.
She also argued that she feels used after her divorce from businessman, Trevor Sunduza.
In her application, Tafadzwa Mutasa told Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Murendo, that she wants Sunduza to pay $2 000 for utility bills, $3 000 for clothing and shoes, $3 000 for rentals and $4 000 for medication, among other things.
But Sunduza, through his lawyer, Mr Johannes Zviuya of Bere Brothers Legal Practitioners, described Mutasa’s application as ‘greedy’, arguing that she wants to survive on proceeds from the maintenance of their minor child.
The court heard that Sunduza married Mutasa in 2019 and the couple was blessed with one child before they separated.
“That is a greedy claim which should not be given any weight. She is an angry woman. The most shocking thing is that she is claiming rent for the minor child to the sum of $3000 per month. How does a minor child living with its mother incur rentals?
“She is able bodied and can also contribute towards the upkeep of the child. She should also contribute something so that the baby can be well taken care of while we wait for the DNA results.
“She has claimed $2 000 for water and electricity per month. How does a minor child of a year or less, having been born on May 1, 2020, consume electricity and water totalling that amount when an average household of seven people does not even pay that much?
“Her application must be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. It is motivated by greed and a desire to fix the respondent since they separated. The respondent has since re-married.
“On the same list, she has claimed $3000 for clothing and shoes. Who in this economy can afford to buy such every month? If this were to be accepted that means one would have spent $36 000 on clothes in a year. It is a clear case of vindictiveness,” argued Mr Zviuya.
Sunduza offered $3000 as interim maintenance while awaiting DNA results.
On the other hand, Mutasa argued that she was used and dumped by Sunduza, adding that she was left with nothing to her name.
She said before marrying Sunduza, she was a student but was forced to drop out of school by the defendant.
“My future was disturbed. I had two operations done on me while I was giving birth to his child. Sunduza was so cruel and left me without anything despite the suffering I endured during the operations.
“I feel that I was used and hope the defendant will pay me for the pain and suffering I went through because of the divorce,” said Mutasa.

Gumbura is the founder of the RMG Independent End Time Message Church, and was convicted of rape in 2014 and sentenced to prison.
He yesterday lost his freedom bid after regional magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo dismissed his bail application on changed circumstances on a matter in which he is accused of attempting a jail break at Chikurubi Maximum Prison along with other inmates.
Mr Mapfumo dismissed his application saying once freed, Gumbura was likely to abscond trial. Mr Mapfumo said Gumbura was already in custody serving a jail term on other charges and it makes no sense releasing him on bail.
Gumbura applied for bail on changed circumstances arguing that he had approached the Supreme Court seeking a bail pending appeal. He had also argued that he had applied for stay of proceedings at the High Court.

The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly demands for the immediate release from prison of the critically ill Hon Joana Mamombe.
Mamombe together with our Vice Chairperson, Cecilia Chimbiri have been languishing at Chikurubi Maximum Prison for close to two months now.
We demand for their immediate release so that Mamombe can access better health care outside the empty state health facilities.
Chikurubi has become worse than Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Concentration Camps and is now a death trap due to its filthy and squalid conditions.
Nomatter the case, the place is just not suitable for human habitation.
We have a sad history with Chikurubi and our female comrades following the death of Rebecca Mafikeni in the same facility a decade ago.
Mafikeni just like what is happening to Hon Mamombe now was denied access to quality private health care until she lost her life in those empty government facilities.
There is no reasonable grounds whatsoever why Mamombe and Chimbiri must continually rot in jail when the very same High Court that denied them bail yesterday granted one to Emelda Mazarani who gruesomely murdered her four children in November last year.
We would like to warn the regime that the continued caging of Mamombe when she is unwell will definitely invite big trouble to their doorsteps.
Mamombe is a young female youth leader who possesses a huge following hence denying her access to health care when she is unwell is surely incitement to violence.
Her release is our priority and matter of urgency!
As an Assembly we are not going to tolerate this inhumane treatment of young females manifest before us.

In Zimbabwe, and most of Africa, donkey-drawn scotchcarts are extensively used by farmers, particularly in the communal areas as a viable mode of transport to carry goods such as agricultural produce, manure, firewood and water.
Scotchcarts, which were hitherto confined to rural areas, are slowly becoming a common sight in urban areas.
In Bulawayo, there is an emerging trend of young entrepreneurs who have lately resorted to using scotchcarts to eke out a living.
The scotchcarts are used to transport people from one suburb to another, carrying sand, firewood and farm produce among other goods.
These scotchcarts prominently feature on the city’s congested streets, especially in the western suburbs where they have become a popular mode of transport.
However, in their day-to-day routines, scotchcart operators struggle to do business against a host of challenges, which include cat-and-mouse games with municipal rangers and police, exorbitant fines for violating council by-laws.
They are also accused of poaching sand and firewood and also face the occasional rage of residents.
The operators have to compete with vehicular traffic for space and they often wait for hours for customers.
In areas such as Cowdray Park, scotchcart operators have taken over the business of transporting sand and firewood. Cowdray Park scotchcart operators have turned an area popularly known as “EmaCaravan” into a hunting ground for clients.
A Chronicle news crew yesterday visited the suburb and spoke to selected scotchcart operators. Mr Prosper Ndlovu of Cowdray Park is in the business of cutting firewood for resale in his locality and surrounding areas.
“I wake up as early as 4AM to fetch firewood in Nyamandlovu because I will be trying to avoid being spotted by game rangers. Usually, I get orders from my regular customers and most of these are backyard restaurant operators and local residents in sections with no power,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu left his job as a security guard three months ago to venture into the scotchcart business on a full-time basis. He has partnered with Mr Isaiah Ncube who specialises mostly in marketing the business.
“My business partner, Isaiah Ncube helps in terms of looking for customers because he has been a resident of Cowdray Park for many years unlike myself. I came here three months ago and few people know me,” he said.
Both Messrs Ndlovu and Ncube rent houses in Cowdray Park but the donkeys are kept at St Peter’s Village near Old Pumula.
“I have a friend of mine who stays at St Peter’s Village and that is where I pen my donkeys overnight because there are a lot of stock thieves around. The other issue is that whenever municipal police spot these donkeys roaming around, they impound them,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu said on a good day, he makes R400 from selling firewood and carrying sand. “Now that we are heading towards winter, the firewood business is likely to increase as there will be high demand,” he said.
Another scotchcart operator, Mr Emmanuel Sibanda said most of his business revolves around ferrying people between St Peter’s Village and Pumula including other surrounding suburbs.
“In areas such as St Peter’s, residents are now relying on donkey-drawn scotchcarts as public transport operators are shunning the route because of poor roads. We are therefore capitalising on that,” he said.
Mr Sibanda said he also gets business from communal farmers intending to transport their produce to the market.
He, however, said due to council by-laws prohibiting scotchcarts from entering the city centre, he just delivers in the western suburbs.
BCC is struggling to deal with donkey crews as residents have made numerous reports over the presence of the animals.
In suburbs such as Pumula South, Pelandaba West, Nkulumane, Luveve 5 and Magwegwe, there are several donkey-drawn cart operators.
BCC senior public relations officer Mrs Nesisa Mpofu said it is illegal for anyone to keep donkeys in the city.
“The Bulawayo (Protection of lands and Natural Resources) by-laws do not allow the keeping of domestic animals on individual properties unless there is authority in terms of the said by-laws, a town planning permission and Bulawayo (Public Health) by-laws approval. Rangers do attend to reports as they come,” she said.
Rangers have issued tickets to the culprits and some animals have been taken to the pound which is at Luveve Gum plantation. The fine for offenders is $832 and is subject to review at council’s pleasure. -Herald

In fact, physical activity is an essential part of caring for your health: It can improve your strength, endurance, and flexibility, and help you manage your weight.
While all forms of exercise are beneficial, gentle stretches can play a key role in relieving psoriatic arthritis symptoms. When your tendons are loose and limber, you may be less likely to experience pain and tightness, according to the patient advocacy group CreakyJoints.
Plus, “increasing your flexibility helps prevent injury,” says M. Elaine Husni, MD, MPH, the vice chair of rheumatology and the director of the arthritis and musculoskeletal center at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. “Daily stretching is an underemphasized part of psoriatic arthritis exercise.”
You’ll want to devote at least 15 minutes a day to stretching, but you should consider doing more, says Dr. Husni.
To get off on the right foot with any new stretching regimen, “you should start with a physical therapist to evaluate your physical ability and come up with a plan,” Husni says. “Once you can stretch without injuring yourself, you can make the plan part of your daily routine.”
Physical therapists are licensed by the state where they practice and work in a variety of settings, according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practices.
In addition to creating a stretching plan tailored to your individual needs, a physical therapist will teach you how to monitor and adjust your program in response to changes in your psoriatic arthritis pain level, disease activity, and response to treatment, says the ACR.

“Fingers are a common site of psoriatic arthritis pain, swelling, and stiffness,” Husni says. To stretch them:
Rest your hand on a table palm up, and bend the fingers together all the way in towards the palm. Rest your hand on the table palm down, and, one at a time, lift each finger as high as you can. Hold your hand out and touch each fingertip to the tip of your thumb. Repeat five times. Here’s a simple stretch for hands:
Rest your forearm on a table and let your hand hang down. Clench your fingers while flexing your wrist so your fist comes up as far as possible. Repeat 10 times

One more stretch: Start by lying on your back on a firm, flat surface. Push down with your feet and shoulders while gently lifting your lower back off the ground.

A 30-YEAR-OLD man from Chakaipa Village under Chief Gwesela in Zhombe hanged himself at his in-law’s homestead following a misunderstanding with his wife over infidelity.
Peter Mlauzi hanged himself after discovering that his wife Blessing Manokore was having an affair. Chief Gwesela confirmed the development to B-Metro saying the village was still shocked by the incident.
“Mlauzi’s actions shocked the whole village and we’re still trying to come to terms with this unusual incident.
“He was a very hard-working man and he worked tirelessly as a gold panner to provide for his family and his in-laws,” he said.
Chief Gwesela said on the fateful day, Mlauzi discovered that his wife was having an affair with another man from the village.
“Upon hearing the news of his wife’s illicit affair, he felt betrayed and he decided to end his life by hanging himself at his mother-in-law’s homestead,” said Chief Gwesela.
He said Mlauzi had since been buried. Chief Gwesela also said that he was yet to meet the Manokores so that a cleansing ceremony is conducted as the incident could be a bad omen to the village.
“I am meeting with the family next week so that we conduct a cleansing ceremony to help appease Mlauzi’s spirit because if that is not done, we might have problems,” he said.
He appealed to members of the public to always seek intervention from a third party in cases of disputes.- B- Metro
By A Correspondent | Zimbabwe’s first female military helicopter pilot, 30 year old Flight Lieutenant Annita Mapiye, was one of the pilots who perished today when their Air Force of Zimbabwe helicopter crashed and burst into flames in Arcturus on the outskirts of Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, respected Journos Hopewell Chin’ono comments saying.
Lt Mapiye together with two colleagues, were on a flight over the area when their chopper crashed onto a house, the Zimbabwe National Air Force announced in a statement in the afternoon. The announcement was as follows:

The helicopter crashed into a house and sadly claimed the lives of two pilots and a technician as well as a child on the ground while another young girl and the mother had burn injuries and were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital. The helicopter took off from Manyame AFB with two pilots and one aircraft technician on board on a General Handling training sortie in the Seke-Domboshava Training Area.

When contact could not be established with the aircraft the Base activated a Search and Rescue operation. As a result of the Search and Rescue effort, the aircraft wreckage was identified. In his message after the accident, Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), Air Marshal Elson Moyo, said a dark cloud had engulfed the AFZ after news of the helicopter accident that claimed the lives of three aircrew and a civilian on the ground. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives after the unfortunate accident. Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those injured after the accident,” he said. The names of the deceased will be released after their next of keen have been informed. The cause of the accident will be established after an aircraft accident investigation and funeral arrangements for the deceased will be announced in due course.
