Tortured Political Activist, Denied Medical Attention

Tinashe Sambiri|Harare political activist, Lengwani Mavhunga, who was tortured and burnt by State Security agents on Thursday, is being blocked from receiving medical attention .

Mavhunga was arrested, tortured and burnt by government agents for attending MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala’s court session in the capital city.

State Security agents are thwarting efforts by private medical doctors to examine Mavhunga.

Below is Hon Sikhala’s statement on the persecution of Mavhunga:

This young man Legwani Mavhunga has been badly tortured by the State security agencies yesterday after he was caught at Rotten Row Magistrates Court on the grounds of attending my court.

I am told he has been burnt by an unknown substance on his face and tortured all over his body…

Mr Mnangagwa, this young man Legwani needs urgent medical attention.

He is currently under the custody of your security services at Harare Law and Order. Nations can’t be governed under such tactics…

They have suddenly rushed him to Parirenyatwa Hospital from Harare Central Law & Order section after the world has been alerted…

They are refusing him to be attended to by private doctors from well wishers. Your voice is very important this hour. Let’s re-tweet and share …

Facts About Anxiety Disorders …

ANXIETY DISORDERS

7 Causes of Anxiety

What’s making you so anxious? You may be surprised — from certain medications to problems with your thyroid, watch out for these anxiety triggers.

Find out what could be making your anxiety worse.
Everyone gets anxious, restless, and frazzled — but if you constantly feel worried, tense, or on edge, you may have an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time.

Doctors make a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) when patients have anxiety symptoms (such as intense and overwhelming worry and three out of six of the following: irritability, sleep disturbance, fatigue, muscle tension, difficulty concentrating, and restlessness) for more than six months.

Examples of other anxiety disorders include:

Agoraphobia
Panic disorder
Separation anxiety disorder
Social anxiety disorder (social phobia)
Specific phobias
According to the Mayo Clinic, you can have more than one anxiety disorder.

Research shows that a combination of environmental and genetic factors likely increase a person’s risk for developing an anxiety disorder, notes the National Institute of Mental Health. Like so many health conditions, anxiety appears to run in families.

In addition to underlying disorders, anxiety may be caused by stress, whether from a major life event or the accumulated effect of small everyday stressors. Anxiety can also come with a medical condition such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma, or thyroid disorders that need treatment. There’s a clear link between caffeine and anxiety and alcohol and anxiety. And certain medications may cause anxiety. In this case, avoiding caffeine and alcohol or changing medications may reduce the anxiety. It’s important to note that while all these things (medications, substances, and stress) can cause anxious feelings, this type of anxiety is distinct from a psychiatric diagnosis of an anxiety disorder.

Some anxiety is normal, but if you suffer from severe anxiety or are worrying too much, it’s important to talk with a mental health specialist about your symptoms. Psychologists focus more on psychotherapy and are not medical doctors. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health treatment. Both psychologists and psychiatrists can diagnose and treat anxiety disorders with psychotherapy, and psychiatrists can also prescribe medications. Psychologists in a few states may have the ability to prescribe, but this is not common or widespread.

Additionally, if you have anxiety with suicidal thoughts, seek emergency medical treatment immediately.

Could any of the following be causing your anxiety?

1
Heart Problems Can Cause Anxiety
man with heart burn heart problems

If you’ve ever had a panic attack, you’re familiar with the way your hands get clammy, you can’t catch your breath — and your heart feels like it’s going to pound right out of your chest. While a panic attack is not a heart attack, there’s a relationship between heart problems and anxiety.

Indeed, about 5 percent of American adults have generalized anxiety disorder, but the incidence is higher in people diagnosed with coronary artery disease (11 percent) or with heart failure (13 percent), according to Harvard Health Publishing. Evidence shows that anxiety can be brought on after a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure, notes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The connection appears to go both ways: People who experience long-term anxiety may experience increased heart rate and blood pressure, reduced blood flow to the heart, and heightened levels of the stress hormone cortisol — over time, all this can lead to heart problems, says the CDC.

2
Anxiety Disorders Are Linked to Alcohol and Drugs

Marti Sans/Stocksy
There is a strong link between alcohol and anxiety. Research shows that people with anxiety disorders are two to three times more likely to have problems with drugs and alcohol at some point in their lives than the general population. But that’s not all: Alcohol and drugs can often cause panic attacks, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA).

People with social anxiety, in particular, may turn to alcohol in order to lessen their symptoms, but alcohol can actually make anxiety worse. About 20 percent of people with social anxiety disorder also have an alcohol or substance abuse disorder, notes the ADAA. No matter which problem comes first, the combination of drugs, alcohol, and anxiety can become a vicious cycle.

3
Caffeine and Anxiety Make You Feel Jittery and Nervous
surprising-anxiety-triggers-03-1440×810
Caffeine is a stimulant — and that can be bad news for someone with anxiety. Caffeine’s jittery effects on your body are similar to those of a frightening event. That’s because caffeine stimulates your “fight or flight” response, and research has shown that this can make anxiety worse and can even trigger an anxiety attack.

Other research suggests that while caffeine can increase alertness, attention, and cognitive function, overdoing it can increase anxiety, particularly in people with panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. And as with the symptoms of anxiety, one too many cups of joe may leave you feeling nervous and moody, and can keep you up at night.

4
Medications Can Trigger an Anxiety Attack

Certain medications have some ugly side effects — and can cause anxiety symptoms or an anxiety attack. Prescription medications to watch out for include thyroid drugs and asthma drugs, while over-the-counter decongestants have been known to cause anxiety symptoms in some people. If you suddenly stop taking certain medications sometimes used to treat anxiety, such as benzodiazepines, withdrawal may cause added anxiety.

Weight Loss Supplements Can Have Anxiety-Producing Side Effects
weight loss supplements which can cause anxiety

Many over-the-counter (OTC) weight loss supplements come with anxiety-producing side effects. Use of St. John’s wort may lead to insomnia, and green tea extracts (which claim to suppress appetite) contain plenty of caffeine. Guarana, an ingredient in some OTC diet products, can contain up to four times as much caffeine as coffee beans. And beware of any product containing ephedra — it can cause increased heart rate and anxiety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned the sale of dietary supplements containing ephedra in 2004.

Are Anxiety Symptoms Related to Your Thyroid Gland?
a woman having her thyroid checked, which can be related to anxiety symptoms.

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in the front of your neck that produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are important for regulating your metabolism and energy levels. But if your thyroid produces too much, it can cause anxiety symptoms, such as nervousness, irritability, heart palpitations, and sleeplessness. Hypothyroidism (in which your thyroid produces too little of the needed hormones) has also been linked to anxiety disorders. If you have anxiety symptoms along with swelling in your neck, weight loss, weakness, fatigue, or heat intolerance, ask your doctor to check your thyroid gland.

Stress Can Worsen Anxiety Symptoms

Stress and anxiety often go hand in hand (stress can be what causes anxiety symptoms, and anxiety can make stress worse). When you’re overly tense, you may also turn to other behaviors that make anxiety worse, such as smoking, abuse of drugs, or abuse of alcohol. Remember that stress and anxiety are often accompanied by physical symptoms such as stomachache, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating.

If you have unexplained symptoms of anxiety, talk with your doctor. Anxiety disorders are treatable…

Mnangagwa Amnesty Leaves Political Activists Languishing In Jail

Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa this week released 2500 prisoners under the Presidential amnesty.

While Mnangagwa released known criminals from prison, he completely ignored jailed political opponents and human rights activists.

According to State media, scores of prisoners who qualified for release under the Presidential Amnesty were freed from various prisons on Tuesday.

The MDC Alliance has called for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Zimbabwe.

Mr Mnangagwa is using the captured courts to muzzle dissenting voices, according to the MDC Alliance Namibia…

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA RUNDU BRANCH SECRETARY GENERAL, SIMBARASHE NDODA EXHIBITS MASSIVE SOLIDARITY TO VICTIMS OF THE CAPTURED JUDICIARY IN ZIMBABWE.

16 APRIL 2021

As a sure way of fulfilling our revolutionary mandate to offer solidarity to all victims of the perpetual Zanupf-sponsored state repression ,manifesting through Captured Courts, Police, Army , Zec and the Parliament , Rundu Branch Secretary General paid a courtesy visit to our leaders in Harare.

The organic and pragmatic leaders Sg Ndoda and the Deputy Spokesperson, Tsara Ropafadzo expressed their solidarity to the illegally convicted vibrant youth leader, Cde Makomborero Haruzivishe who was imprisoned for mere whistling in town. In Constitutional Democracy, solidarity is key! Mdc Alliance Namibia is very grateful to the effort put by its leaders since it reflects the aspirations and dreams of its people to have a corrupt-free Great Zimbabwe led by our political mountain President Advocate Nelson Chamisa (Wamba Dia Wamba).

On his twitter handle, Dr Simbarashe Ndoda wrote, “Mdc Alliance Namibia is in genuine solidarity with the wrongly jailed Makomborero Haruzivishe, falsely charged Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, unconstitutionally detained Joana, Cecilia, Ngoni, Vongai Tome, Last Maengahama and Tungamirai Madzokere.

It’s really sad to witness the arbitrary arrests of Hopewell and other journalists exploiting illegal means to silence voices of dissent.

All political prisoners should be released unconditionally and all political victimisation of social democrats should halt forthwith”.

As a district, we salute the revolutionary zeal in our two leaders from Rundu Branch Namibia for their dedication and commitment to demonstrate their appetite for the change that delivers.

Moreover, the Sg expressed his gratitude and honour in meeting up to cross- pollinate political, social and economic notes with our vibrant Hon Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, Honourable Daniel Molokele and the fearless journalist Hopewell Chin’ono.

He commented the leadership as 100% pro-democracy since they reflected an astonishing and astounding vision for a prosperous Great Zimbabwe manned by God-fearing leadership. Simbarashe Ndoda also reiterated that Mdc Alliance Namibia stands resolutely behind Nelson Chamisa who has the audacity and capacity to put the economy on a sounder footing.

As a district, we shall tirelessly continue to push for the diaspora vote as well as the comprehensive political and electoral reforms.

Moreso, our ambassadors for complete change did not tire easily. Before he met the main wing, he first met angry youths outside Rotten Row Court on the 6th of April. On this day, Zimbabwe and world witnessed democracy on trial. The organic youth leaders promised to continue fighting against Zanupf corruption, looting, gross abuse of human rights and judiciary dependence on the Harare regime. “A very blessed week indeed converging with great leaders with a vision for a better Zimbabwe. From the “madhara’ to the energetic and enthusiastic youths. Ahoy Citizens Ahoyi”, echoed Sg Ndoda after a successful political mission.

We were not perturbed to hear that there was heavy police presence at Rotten Row Court yesterday since it now Zanupf’s modus operandi to beat up and kill people who happen to show solidarity to the incarcerated opposition activists, journalists and all human rights defenders. Zanupf should know that one day, our Motherland shall achieve socio-economic transformation and all enemies of the national democratic revolution will be made to account for their atrocities. Mdc Alliance Namibia says injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere so it is now our moral obligation to confront Zanupf Satanists in the eye for the change that delivers. We shall never be broken as a people, we remain masters of our own destiny together as advocates of Constitutional Democracy. Namibia shall soldier on with the fight for the total emancipation of our suffering citizenry.

Thanks Sg Ndoda and Deputy Spokesperson Ropafadzo Tsara for your revolutionary trajectory. “We shall keep on fighting and those who continue to hallucinate that social democrats will be broken down by this festival of illegalities must go to hell”, said Rundu Branch Spokesperson Robson Ruhanya.

In a nutshell, the district urges all Zimbabweans across the globe to democratically fight against senseless and barefaced corruption. We demand release of our leaders. Namibia remains resolute.

Eddie Cross On Land Tenure

By Eddie Cross

Two historical notes confirm the above title: 1. In the world today only 18 percent of all agricultural land is privately owned under freehold title. Yet this small area produces over 80 percent of all world food and other agricultural output products; and..

2. In the former Soviet Union where all agricultural land was State owned and organised into large State controlled farms, the 3 percent of the land allocated to family plots – in urban and peri urban areas, and this tiny area produced 70 per cent of all the food needs of the people.

The productivity of land held under private, freehold ownership is indisputable.

The question is why? Under freehold land tenure two major influences are enabled:

1. It gives the owner a sense of ownership and this carries with it a sense of responsibility. It also takes on the character of a privately owned asset that can be developed, preserved and protected for future generations. This encourages the re-investment of any surplus revenues in capital development and land improvement; and

2. It gives the land value which can be used as collateral for bank borrowings to facilitate production and investment in land and buildings and fixed assets such as fencing, dams and other forms of immovable asset, all essential to productivity.

All societies in the world started out with land as a ‘common good’, this evolved most often into a Feudal system of land tenure where Chiefs, Feudal Barons and Kings and other institutions of community leadership, assumed control over land and the people who occupied it were ‘serfs’, ‘slaves’ and simply peasants or villagers.

This served as a means of deriving income or tribute and political power. This was the case in Britain and most of Europe before the Reformation and its associated legal reforms (the Enclosure Acts in the UK). Often recruitment for regional armies was made from the men who were working as serfs within these feudal structures. The massive homes and castles of Europe all bear testimony to the exploitive nature of these sorts of societies.

In Africa, land was always a common good, livestock owners ranged their animals over vast areas of land following water and grazing, Tribes with an agricultural tradition followed a slash and burn culture. Permanent housing was rare and when the land they were using became exhausted and unproductive, they simply abandoned their villages and moved.

Colonial settlement changed all of that and in those countries of Africa which had a significant presence of foreign nationals who took up citizenship and residence, they also introduced the rule of law and with it the concept of title to the land.

Fences went up and fixed, commercial utilisation of land for the purpose of establishing urban industry and commerce as well as housing became common.

Farms were established and countries like Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa and Namibia all brought a substantial proportion of the land available under free hold title. Ownership was often on a colonial basis with indigenous people being confined to areas where the land was held under feudal management by tribal Kings, Chiefs and Headmen.

Exactly the same situation applied in Canada, the USA and Australia where the indigenous populations were, and continue to be, confined to tribal areas controlled by traditional leadership and often held under systems that regard land as a ‘common good’ owned by the tribe.

Any review of the state of these areas that continue to be held and managed under these systems will reveal that they, almost universally, remain distinct, poor and degraded with low levels of productivity and high levels of poverty. It’s not a racial issue, it’s not a cultural issue, it is simply a fact that such system cannot generate and hold value.

When I was in Glasgow some 30 years ago I was taken to see a housing scheme for the homeless and the poorer members of that society. It was three years old and was already in a disastrous state – in a few years it had to be destroyed as being uninhabitable.

In India some years later I visited a housing scheme on 2500 hectares of land in the Capital city sponsored by an international NGO called Opportunity International. There a community of squatters who had subsisted in shacks and under plastic for 23 years had each been allocated just 50 square metres of land freehold plus a loan of US$500 interest free.

You might argue, what can anyone do with that? But what I saw was a community in three storey homes, schools, clinics, industry and roads and other infrastructure and 98 per cent of the original loans repaid. What made it work – security of title.

Closer to home, in South Africa the Government has developed millions of small homes under what they called the Reconstruction and Development Program.

They have not allowed the occupants to buy the homes which are leased to their occupants – often on a basis that forces them to support the Party in Government. 40 percent of those homes today are uninhabitable, when you drive through those areas you see no signs of home improvements, no gardens, no walls – just a different form of slum with the State as the Landlord.

In Zimbabwe, at Independence, we took over a land system that provided 16 million hectares of agricultural land to largely white farmers of settler stock. 16 million hectares of land to the indigenous population that still had rural roots.

After 40 years of Independence about 4 million hectares remain under freehold title but the rest is now ‘state’ land. This change was effected by a land reform program designed to give the indigenous population control of the land and some compensation to the former farmers has now been agreed. The question is what to do with what has been taken over?

The Tribal Areas remain impoverished and its people desperately poor, with nearly 10 million hectares of land severely damaged and threatened with desertification. The former commercial farming Districts are in the majority abandoned and unproductive with farm output down 70 per cent except for tobacco which has been supported by the international tobacco companies.

In urban areas several hundred former farms have been used to provide land for urban housing. All such homes have been built with private money, much of it from the Diaspora who dream of one-day returning home. I estimate that 1,4 million homes have either been built or are under construction here. In the past year we have sold 4 million tonnes of cement for construction purposes in a country that has not seen a construction crane in operation for 20 years.

If we gave these urban home owners, title to the land they occupy, it would create capital stock in the hands of our own people of probably near US$100 billion in assets. Half of which is bankable.

If we did the same thing with the 180 000 new farmers who occupy the land previously owned and occupied by the previous generation of farmers here, it would put real capital into the hand of all these families, much of which could be used as collateral to pay for costs and development of the land. It would bring billions of dollars of dead capital into life with a direct impact on poverty, opportunity and growth across the whole nation. It would cost the Government nothing, the stroke of a pen.

In the Tribal areas we have to give the Villages that make up our rural population and where the majority of our people call home, some sort of security over these village areas and to give them control and management of these areas.

It’s what everyone wants to happen, it would transform this country in the blink of an eye. It would transfer real wealth that is completely untapped, to our own people. Why don’t we do it?

City Of Harare Loses 240 Hectares Of Land In Fraudulent Joint Venture Agreement With Ken Sharpe

By A Correspondent| City of Harare has lost over 200 hectares of prime land after being hoodwinked into a joint venture agreement with an Estonian registered company owned by controversial land developer and businessman Kenneth Raydon Sharpe for the construction of houses, a hotel and truck in among other planned projects.

The agreement which was signed in 2007 has not materialized to this day as the Sharpe’s company Augur Investments OU has not honoured its pledge to contribute between US$20 and US$30 Million into the deal.

This is contained in a High Court challenge filed by an organisation called Homeless People Federation together with former City of Harare Councilor Warship Dumba and Knowledge Tinashe Kwambana, a Harare resident.

The litigants want the Memorandum of Understanding and the Shareholder Agreement between Sharpe and Harare that culminated in the formation of Sunshine Development Private limited to be declared null and void.

In their High Court challenge, the litigants said the joint venture agreement was just a corrupt vehicle to extract land from the City of Harare by Sharpe.

According to the court challenge seen by ZimEye, the joint venture resulted in a 70-30 share agreement between Augur Investments and City of Harare with the former getting the lion’s share.

As part of the joint venture agreement, City of Harare was expected to contribute land amounting to 99,4197 hectares.

But the litigants felt the agreement prejudiced City of Harare since the value of land it contributed was over US$45 Million as per an independent valuation done by Mike Juru of Intergrated Properties Private Limited.

With indications that Harare ended up transferring 239,3823 hectares, the litigants questioned the logic of City of Harare continuing with an agreement which was tilted in favour of Sharpe.

Kenneth Raydon Sharpe, the owner of Augur Investments which entered into a deal with City of Harare to form Sunshine Development Pvt Ltd

Dumba wants to know how the 70-30 shareholding agreement was arrived at as it is not explained in the Memorandum of Agreement.

“Besides the above obvious corruption, there is no explanation in the Memorandum of Agreement or in the Shareholder’s Agreement why the shareholding structure is 70 to 30 in favour of Augur Investments OU,” said Dumba.

Dumba also questioned the criterion used to select Augur Investments to be development parter of the City of Harare.

“There was no defined criterion as to why Augur Investments OU was selected to be the development partner of the City of Harare,” reads Dumba’s High Court challenge.

Dumba and his co-litigants also poked holes in the registration and existence of Augur Investments which is registered in Estonia as opposed to Ukraine as indicated in the Memorandum of Understanding signed with City of Harare.

“The Augur Investments itself is a fraud. The Memorandum of Understanding signed on the 22nd of June 2007 with the City of Harare refers to Augur Ltd a company registered in Ukraine,

“On the contrary the Shareholders Agreement refers to Augur Investments Pty Ltd as a company registered in Estonia,” further reads Dumba’s Court challenge.

A Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigation also showed that Augur Investments was not Ukrainian but Estonian and its address was questionable as it showed a flat in an industrial area.

“Although it claims to be a Ukrainian company, investigations by the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission show that in fact it was registered in Estonia as an Estonian company. And according to papers filed in the Estonian Registry, Augur Investments OU lists Ranakupst 12 Tallin 10917 Estonia as its physical address. However this address is more flat in an industrial area in Tallin the capital city of Estonia,” said Dumba.

More worrying to Dumba and his co-litigants was the fact that City of Harare negotiated and agreed to a deal with a non-existent company which according to the Commercial Registrar of Estonia was registered on 7 September 2007 which was a day before the Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

“The shareholders Agreement between Augur Investments and the City of Harare which created the Joint Venture Sunshine Development Pvt Ltd was signed on the 4th of September 2007 as pointed out above. Only a day after the official registration of Augur Investments OU in the commercial Registrar of Estonia.

“This in fact means that the negotiations pertaining to the Shareholders Agreement were commenced and concluded before Augur Investments was officially registered in Estonia,” added Dumba.

He further told the court that while City of Harare did put land upfront, Sharpe’s Augur Investments did not put anything and to this day havent done so raising suspicions of Sunshine Development being created as a fraudulent vehicle of extracting land from the municipality.

The Joint venture agreement was expected to result in the construction of a hotel, truck inn and shopping centre among other developments.

Zanu Pf No Longer Practicing Old Politics

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF is no longer practising “old politics” and is pushing committedly for unity and tolerance among all Zimbabweans, party spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo has said.

Speaking to the Daily News yesterday, he also assured jittery opposition leaders and their supporters that the return of the national youth service training programme would not lead to violence in the run-up to the 2023 elections.

This comes as the re-introduction of the programme has spooked many Zimbabweans who have bad memories of its recruits – who were derisively referred to as “Green Bombers” during their reign of terror between 2001 and 2009, as then president Robert Mugabe battled to retain his increasingly tenuous hold on power.

Khaya Moyo was also emphatic yesterday that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF were practising a new kind of politics that was “very different from the past”.

“Nobody should be scared of the revival of this project. Why should people be scared of this good programme?

“This is a new dispensation. We are not living in the past and we cannot continue to live in the past.

“We need our youths to benefit from all types of training in terms of various skills. This will help them in future. They can be employers of tomorrow,” Khaya Moyo told the Daily News.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa

“Our youths must have something to do and they can’t sit at home doing nothing. The youth service programme will give them skills to do a lot of things, which will help them in future,” he added.

This comes after Cabinet announced earlier this week the re-introduction of the national youth service, much to the chagrin of opposition and pro-democracy groups.

Formed at the turn of the millennium, the previous youth training programme was the brainchild of the late Border Gezi, who was then Zanu-PF national political commissar and also Youth minister.

During that time, the youths earned notoriety for both violence and the looting of shops under the guise of enforcing the government’s price controls – while imposing unofficial curfews in areas perceived to be opposition strongholds.

Besides being accused of working with the police, army and the secret service to perpetrate human rights abuses in the country, the Green Bombers were also accused of being the vehicle which some bigwigs used to place tens of thousands of ghost workers on the government’s wage bill.

Speaking during Tuesday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the re-introduction of the programme had come after wide consultations.

“The proposal came as a result of consultations between the ministries of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, and Defence and War Veterans Affairs.

“Cabinet noted that national youth service is an important youth development programme which is crucial in nurturing young people into becoming responsible and resilient citizens with a clear sense of national identity and respect for national values.

“The programme is a key strategy for youth empowerment in national, regional, continental and international development guiding frameworks to which Zimbabwe is a member.

The frameworks include the Sadc Revised Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan, the African Youth Charter of 2006, the World Programme of Action on Youth, and the United Nations Youth Strategy 2030,” Mutsvangwa said.

She also said that during their training, the youths would be encouraged to participate in development projects and disaster response activities, thereby assisting in enhancing national capacity to manage disasters.

“Cabinet further agreed that under the revamped programme, vocational training centres across all provinces will focus on entrepreneurship and livelihood skills training.

“This will encompass enterprise awareness, opportunity identification, project financing, and basic farming. The Civil Protection Unit will place emphasis on disaster mitigation and management skills.

“The roll-out of the national youth service programme will involve community attachment of youths for work experience and service to various government departments and local authorities.

“The programme will also take on board the disabled, and maintain gender balance and fair regional representation, with recruitment taking place through district offices,” Mutsvangwa also said.

Meanwhile, opposition and pro-democracy groups have said that the imminent return of the Green Bombers was a bad idea as tension was rising again in the country.

MDC spokesperson Witness Dube – whose party’s supporters were terrorised by the recruits who had been converted into Mugabe and Zanu-PF’s storm troopers before the controversial project was abandoned – was among the people who told the Daily News this week that they had misgivings about the return of the training scheme.

“The return of the national youth service is a cause for consternation to our party and supporters given that it has been previously abused to further partisan interests.

“We urge the government to halt this initiative and take time to further consult with the masses if at all there is any place for it in our national youth development agenda,” he said.

MDC Alliance deputy youth assembly spokesperson, Womberai Nhende, was equally apprehensive about the return of the Green Bombers – who got their derisive name on account of their trademark army-like uniform and violent disposition.

“The mere announcement of the re-introduction of this programme sent shivers down the spines of citizens because of yester-year’s horrors when the military-trained brigade meted out terror to citizens.

“They were a brain-washed lot who were specifically used against political enemies, and in this case it’s meant to counter the MDC Alliance’s citizens’ convergence for change.

“These militiamen and women from the Border Gezi camps only serve at the mercy of their master who will be Zanu-PF, and it’s a well-calculated ploy to have institutionalised political violence come the 2023 elections,” Nhende told the Daily News.

He also bemoaned the fact that the programme, which provided militia training to about 80 000 youths at more than 150 camps throughout the country between 2001 and 2009, was being re-introduced at a time there was again high unemployment in the country.

“We don’t recommend its return because we know the modus operandi of the brigade, which will be made up of youths who will spearhead Zanu-PF’s programmes – as evidenced by the Border Gezi youths being marshals at the party’s functions in their previous operations.

“If this programme continues, we must all be prepared to endure long nights of State-sponsored terrorism by criminals who lack ideological grounding, but are indoctrinated to protect political elites in a partisan enclave,” Nhende said further.-dailynews

Zanu Pf MP Hijacks ZUPCO

By A Correspondent- MDC officials have blasted Mazowe North legislator Campion Mugweni for allegedly hijacking the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO)  bus that was allocated to Mvurwi, for his publicity-seeking stunts.

The bus was allocated by the parastatal yesterday to ply Mvurwi-Harare route as police wage a war against unregistered taxis (mushika-shika)

Mugweni took the opportunity to board the bus and told residents that he had brought the bus to save them from transport problems.

MDC’s Tonderai Samhu blasted Mugweni for his actions in a residents WhatsApp group saying,” For the record Zupco bus raunzwa kuzoshandira kuMvurwi is not from Zanu-PF, neither was it brought here by Campion Mugweni the missing MP, Zupco is a state parasatal or company ikutotsvagao Mari and it identified Mvurwi Harare route as a possible money making route and for one individual or vote searching political party to move around Mvurwi town saying takuunzirai bhazi is just poor and very cheap politiking,

As mvurwi residents we appreciate the effort made by our Zupco company to assist us with transport to and from Harare

Ndazonzwa mumwe mudhara aakunyepera vanhu pamsika kuti bhazi redu rauya kuchatakurwa nekungoburitsa card remsangano, hee raunzwa na mp,iro bhazi nderedu vafambi ,we shall benefit from it and let it be known kuti harisi remahara,we will pay transport costs

Thank u zupco for finally bringing one bus after all long, thank u local media for the effort you made in advising zupco for business opportunity

Tosangana kumbare taakukwira bhazi???????,” reads Samhu’s message.

Another MDC official Evans Mangisa said Mugweni should desist from politicizing everything.

“This ZANU PF MP should desist from politicizing everything last time it was auction floors today it’s ZUPCO he ought to respect people and leave this habit and bring meaningful development.” Mangisa said.

Meanwhile, Mugweni is slowly losing popularity and is trying to hijack any opportunity that comes in his constituency.

Trio In Soup For Beating Up Neighbour And Dumping Hi In Sewage

By A Correspondent- Three Victoria Falls men have been arrested after they severely assaulted their neighbour until he lost consciousness before dumping his body in a nearby drain filled with sewage.

Mr Khaliphani Ngulube of 4873 in Chinotimba narrated to police how he was later rescued by an unidentified passerby who pulled him out of the flowing sewage and carried him home.

Mr Ngulube had approached Sibangiswani Nkomo (32), Cosmas Mulima (30) and Qondisani Ndlovu (27) at Nkomo’s house in Chinotimba where the trio was, inquiring about the whereabouts of a friend identified as Mr Brighton Singonge.

Instead Nkomo, Mulima and Ndlovu became hostile towards Mr Ngulube, upon which their colleague Mr Victor Chingenga, who was with them, suddenly pounced on the complainant and slapped him three times.

Mr Ngulube tried to escape but Mr Chingenga pursued him and the two engaged in a fight. Mr Ngulube then picked up a stone and hit Mr Chingenga once on the head and he collapsed.

Nkomo, Mulisa and Ndlovu joined in the fight and started assaulting Mr Ngulube with sticks while also punching and slapping him repeatedly until he fell unconscious. The trio carried Mr Ngulube and dumped him inside a pool of sewage flowing from a burst pipe.

Mr Chingenga was not arrested in relation to the incident. Nkomo, Mulima and Ndlovu pleaded guilty to a charge of assault each when they appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Ms Linda Dzvene. Each was sentenced to eight months in prison of which two months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The other six months were suspended on condition that each of them completes 210 hours of community service.

Nkomo will do the unpaid work at Chidobe Primary School while Mulima and Ndlovu will do theirs at the Victoria Falls Registrar General Office and Chinotimba Clinic respectively. Prosecuting Miss Audrey Mukanganya said the incident occurred in October last year.

“On the 31st day of October 2020 at 8PM the complainant proceeded to house number 1180 Chinotimba looking for his friend Brighton Singonge and found the three accused and Victor Chingenga seated outside. The complainant asked about his friend and was told that he was not around. A misunderstanding ensued over an undisclosed issue leading to the fight,” said Miss Mukanganya.

She said the three started assaulting Mr Ngulube. Mr Ngulube was treated and discharged at Victoria Falls Hospital while Mr Chingenga did not seek medical treatment.

Matanga Sued For Wrongful Arrest

By A Correspondent- A Harare man has filed a lawsuit against police commissioner-general Godwin Matanga, at the High Court claiming that he was wrongfully arrested and is seeking to be released from custody.

Borislav Trifonov Boynov, who is under police guard in hospital, cited Matanga and an assistant inspector Patrick Matare as the respondents in the suit.

Boynov was arrested last Friday after police officers stormed his house claiming that they wanted to question him about an ongoing Supreme Court civil lawsuit involving his employer.

“On Friday, 9 April, 2021 in the late afternoon, three male police officers came to Bath Mansions premises requesting to see me.

“Upon being made aware of this development by my gardener, I immediately called my attorney, Shingai Mutumbwa, who assured me that he would contact Avondale Police Station to establish whether they were genuine police officers.

“In due course, my legal practitioners went to Avondale Police Station and met with first respondent (Matare) where after I was informed by my attorney that the police had requested that I attend at the police station to answer some questions pertaining to civil litigation proceedings taking place in the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe involving my employer, Technoimpex JSC and one Sarah Hwingwiri,” he averred.

Boynov is also claiming that despite his lawyers making arrangements to have him appear at the police station last Sunday, the police officers returned to his home and informed him of their intention to arrest him.

He was, however, rushed to the critical care unit at Borrowdale Trauma Centre following a medical emergency where he was later placed into police custody.

Around 7:30pm on the same day, I was startled to hear loud noises from attempts at forced entry at my door and when I requested the intruders to identify themselves, they said they were police officers from Avondale Police Station.

“I subsequently received a telephone call from my attorney advising me that he had spoken to the first respondent, who confirmed that his hand had been forced to place me in police custody, but he did not have a warrant of arrest,” Boynov added.

He is further claiming that his arrest was an attempt by Hwingwiri to intimidate him and influence the outcome of the case currently pending at the Supreme Court.

“This is not the first time that I have, at the insistence of Hwingwiri, been arrested and detained by the police without lawful cause.

“In 2016 the same woman, Hwingwiri, caused my arrest and detention without charge at Highlands Police Station.

“I am certain that my current arrest and detention is also at the behest of the well-connected and resourceful woman, Hwingwiri.

“I am certain she has caused my arrest and detention for a second time to intimidate me and advance her criminal influence on the outcome of the litigation matters currently pending in the High Court of Zimbabwe and the Supreme Court,” he claimed.

He is challenging the arrest and his detention at the hospital and argues that it is abuse of power by the police as he was not made aware of the charges he is facing before being arrested.

Matanga and Matare are yet to respond to the lawsuit.-DailyNews

Violent Mourning AFM Church Members Over-Power Police

By James Gwati- Police were on Friday over-powered by the mourning warring rival factions of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM), who were fighting at the funeral of the late Missiondom Sengwayo, the youngest son of the late founder of the church, Reverend Morgan Sengwayo.

Missiondom died on Sunday at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) due to injuries sustained following a brutal attack by thugs at the church house in Pelandaba suburb.

He had been on life support for a week following the attack, which left both the family and the local community with more questions than answers.

The gate was locked and mourners, some from as far as South Africa and UK, failed to access the church premises resulting in chaotic scenes with some angry people trying to destroy the locked gate. Police watched helplessly as the drama unfolded.

There was a heavy police presence during the funeral, which was preceded by a short service at Missiondom’s place of residence.

Residents and church members thronged the church house to pay their last respects.

The situation degenerated into chaos after church members aligned to Missiondom’s camp started chasing away members of the Gumbo faction who were subsequently forced to lock themselves inside their houses.

“These people are the ones who killed our brother and they must account for their evil deeds. We don’t want to see them. They must not come here to shed crocodile tears,” one mourner was overheard shouting.

Mnangagwa Denies Gukurahundi Victims Citizenship

By James Gwati-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is denying thousands of Gukurahundi victims access to death certificates of their murdered relatives, a report by a respected International Human rights lobby grouping has revealed.

According to a just-published report by Amnesty International another publication called, We are like “stray animals”, they cited details how Zimbabwe’s discriminatory and arbitrary nationality laws have left generations of migrant workers and their families marginalized in the only country they have ever called home. Meanwhile, thousands of survivors of the horrific Gukurahundi massacres, one of the bloodiest episodes of Robert Mugabe’s rule, are denied citizenship because they cannot provide the death certificates of relatives, which are required to prove Zimbabwean nationality.

Violence At AFM Boss’ Son Burial

By A correspondent- Violence on Friday rocked the funeral proceedings of the late Missiondom Sengwayo, the youngest son of the late founder of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) of Portland Oregon, Reverend Morgan Sengwayo, as infighting within the beleaguered church continues to rear its ugly head.

The funeral proceedings were marred by chaotic scenes after a rival faction aligned to the church’s regional superintendent Rev Oniyas Gumbo, blocked the hearse carrying Missiondom’s body from accessing the church building in Pelandaba.

Missiondom was buried yesterday next to his parents at Green Gables farm near Khami Ruins on the outskirts of Bulawayo.

He was the only surviving son of the late Rev Sengwayo who died in March 1982.

Missiondom’s father was instrumental in the establishment of the church in the Sadc region.

Mnangagwa Shutters Zimbabweans’ Hopes, Subjects Citizens To Worst Human Rights Violations-Report

By A Correspondent -Hundreds of thousands of people trapped in the misery of statelessness in Zimbabwe have been forced to the margins of society, and struggle to access education, healthcare and housing, Amnesty International said today in a new report. The organization interviewed descendants of migrant workers who settled in Zimbabwe pre-independence, as well as survivors of the Gukurahundi massacres of the 1980s; two groups locked out of citizenship by a cruel combination of discrimination and bureaucracy.

The report, We are like “stray animals”, details how Zimbabwe’s discriminatory and arbitrary nationality laws have left generations of migrant workers and their families marginalized in the only country they have ever called home. Meanwhile, thousands of survivors of the horrific Gukurahundi massacres, one of the bloodiest episodes of Robert Mugabe’s rule, are denied citizenship because they cannot provide the death certificates of relatives, which are required to prove Zimbabwean nationality.

“For Zimbabwe’s stateless, everyday life is filled with obstacles. Accessing education, healthcare and employment can be a nightmare, and the sense of exclusion and rejection is soul destroying,” said Muleya Mwananyanda, Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for Southern Africa.

“The Zimbabwean authorities must take concrete action to address this crisis, including mapping and registering all stateless people. Authorities must ensure laws are in line with Zimbabwe’s own Constitution, as well as international human rights law.”

In Zimbabwe, approximately 300,000 people are currently at risk of statelessness, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Lack of official data means that the exact number is unknown.

Migration and statelessness

Amnesty International research lays bare the devastating consequences of statelessness on the eve of 41 years of independence where many  hoped to live in a country where they are treated equally, regardless of their political affiliation or ethnicity. The current statelessness crisis in Zimbabwe has its roots in colonial history. The British colonial government largely depended on cheap migrant labour from Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia to grow its industries.

After independence in 1980, Zimbabwean authorities passed a series of discriminatory laws which have, over the years, effectively excluded, marginalized and disenfranchised the descendants of these workers.

For example, the 1984 Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act 23 was used to arbitrarily deprive persons of “foreign origin” of their right to a Zimbabwean nationality, even though most were entitled to citizenship under the Constitution. Section 43 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution states that any resident who was born in Zimbabwe to parents with a claim to citizenship of any SADC state – including Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa – is a Zimbabwean citizen by birth.

The Citizenship Act is not yet aligned to the Constitution and continues to be used by the Ministry of Home Affairs to deny citizenship arbitrarily and unfairly to descendants of migrant workers. In so doing the Citizenship Act gives almost unfettered discretion and arbitrary powers to both executive and junior officials to deny people their constitutional rights.

In 2001, a new law required descendants of migrant workers to renounce their ancestral nationality within six months, in order to be granted Zimbabwean citizenship. Many people were unable to do so because they did not hold the requisite identity documents. To be granted Zimbabwean citizenship, they first needed to prove that their parents had been nationals of other countries.

One man, Alex, whose father was Zambian, said: “I have no idea how I can locate my parents’ relatives as I have never been to Zambia.”

Alex does not have death certificates for either his father or his Zimbabwean mother. As a result, he has been denied citizenship, which prevented him from going beyond Grade 7 at school and means neither of his children have birth certificates.

Precarious futures

In this way, the legal limbo of statelessness is perpetuated across generations. Parents are denied birth certificates for their children if they cannot present their own, leaving their children facing precarious futures.

Without the necessary identity documents, many stateless children are unable to access education. Those who do attend school are often forced to drop out, or prevented from sitting their final exams.

Lulumani, a 23-year-old woman, said:

“Life has been difficult and painful. I was brilliant at school, but I did not sit my final exams. Now I can’t get a decent job.”

One man Amnesty Interviewed, Petros, said:

“My eldest child in primary school cannot play soccer for the school like other children because he does not have a birth certificate.”

Stateless people in Zimbabwe also face barriers to accessing health care. Pregnant women are excluded from critical life-saving services such as antenatal care and assistance during labour.

Botshiwe Dube, from Tsholotsho, told Amnesty International how she went to a health centre when she went into labour, but when she could not provide ID she was sent home to deliver her children.

All of Botshiwe’s children were born at home; she told Amnesty International that she feels they are treated like “stray animals because they are undocumented.”

Those without identity documents are also excluded from participating in political activities and from running their own businesses.

The Gukurahundi massacres and statelessness

When Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980 it was a deeply divided country. Tensions between the Robert Mugabe-led ZANU-PF and the Joshua Nkomo-led ZAPU led to an eruption of violence between the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) and the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA), the respective military wings of ZANU-PF and ZAPU.

By early 1982, authorities were violently cracking down on ZIPRA forces in Matabeleland, the homeland of the Ndebele people. Special forces of the Zimbabwe National Army Fifth Brigade were deployed, who carried out atrocious attacks against not only militants but also ZAPU officials and other people. The political tensions spilled into mass atrocities against the Ndebele people, and an estimated 20,000 people were killed between 1983 and 1987. Thousands were tortured and abducted, women were raped, and homes destroyed.

When the crackdown, known as operation Gukurahundi, was over, traumatized survivors had to grapple with the challenges of statelessness as they were required to produce death certificates as proof of their parents to apply for Zimbabwean nationality. However, death certificates for people killed in the Gukurahundi operation were not issued, meaning that those who were orphaned as a result of the violence had no way of proving their parents’ nationality.

Vaina Ndlovu, 68, lives in Tsholotsho in Matebeland North. Vaina’s father was abducted by Fifth Brigade forces and never heard from again following his abduction.  When Vaina tried to obtain a death certificate for her father, registry office officials told her they needed witnesses to confirm that her father was abducted during Gukurahundi, which Vaina’s family could not provide.

Statelessness resulting in violations of economic, social and cultural rights

Stateless people in Zimbabwe struggle to access housing, healthcare and education, violating their rights under the Constitution, as well as international and regional human rights treaties including the UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, to which Zimbabwe is a State Party.

While states have a right to determine their citizenship laws, these laws must be in conformity with international human rights law. As such, domestic law and practices must not be discriminatory and must conform to international legal obligations to not render anyone stateless.

“Zimbabwe must make concrete and urgent changes to the law to bring the Citizenship Act in line with the Constitution. The authorities must take the necessary steps to ensure no further generations are condemned to the margins of society,” said Muleya Mwananyanda.

“The Zimbabwean authorities must publicly commit to creating an equal and inclusive society that accords citizenship to any person born on Zimbabwean soil, without discrimination based on national or ethnic origin.”

Amnesty International is calling on the Zimbabwean government to urgently take adequate measures to ensure the registration and restoration of Zimbabwean nationality to all those entitled to it, as provided for under the Constitution, including all those born and raised in Zimbabwe to foreign parents.

Luke Malaba Sent Home Come What May 2021.

By Mari Matutu | I had an hour long debate with one Dr Masimba Mavaza on retirement of Luke Malaba. He seem to suggest some other power that can excuse Luke Malaba from retiring on 15 May 2021. (AUDIO LOADING BELOW…. )

I will show you how it is impossible for Malaba to be in office after his 70th birth day

1) Section 186 of constitution “Tenure of office of judges
(1) Judges of the Constitutional Court are appointed for a non-renewable term of not more than fifteen years, but—
(a) they must retire earlier if they reach the age of seventy years; and
(b) after the completion of their term, they may be appointed as judges of the Supreme Court or the High Court, at their option, if they are eligible for such appointment.

(2) Judges of the Supreme Court, the High Court and any other Judges hold office from the date of their assumption of office until they reach the age of seventy years, when they must retire.

(3) A person maybe appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court, the High Court and any other courts for a fixed term, but if a person is so appointed, other than in an acting capacity, he or she ceases to be a judge on reaching the age of seventy years even if the term of his or her appointment has not expired.

(4) Even though a judge has resigned or reached the age of seventy years or, in the case of a judge of the Constitutional Court or a judge referred to in subsection (3), reached the end of his or her term of office, he or she may continue to sit as a judge for the purpose of dealing with any proceedings commenced before him or her while he or she was a judge.

(5) A judge may resign from his or her office at any time by written notice to
the President given through the Judicial Service Commission.

(6) The office of a judge must not be abolished during his or her tenure of office.”

It is very clear that a Chief Justice is a Judge of the Constitutional court- it is clear that he signed a non renewable contract of 15 years. It is clear that Malaba is turning 70 years on 15 May 2021. Which means he must retire earlier than his term. The word “must” is a command not an option.

Only judges of CC that finish their 15 year term without reaching 70 may be appointed as Judges of SC or HC but never CC. This closes tight the chance of anyone to extend beyond 70.

Dr Mavaza tried to hide on 186(4) and say that is a window for extending Malaba’s time. But then who is blind to see that judges under this provision are seating on a case they previously sat on which need to be finished. That is common cause. It has nothing to do with your term of office but the case the judge partly heard. It is the judge who first heard the case who must finish it.

2) Dr Mavhaza went on to rely on the amendment being done in parliament. Without bringing any argument on the merits or demerits of the outcome of amendments being fronted in parliament, it is easy to show Dr Mavaza from s328(7) of constitution that Luke Malaba is not a beneficiary of what ever comes from the parliament.

Section 328(7) “Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, an amendment to a term-limit provision, the effect of which is to extend the length of time that a person may hold or occupy any public office, does not apply in relation to any person who held or occupied that office, or an equivalent office, at any time before the amendment.”

It must be clear to anyone that as of today 16 April 2021 even if the parliament passes the bills into law and allow the extension of term beyond 70 years, that cannot benefit Malaba. He will go and leave the next person to enjoy it.

3) Again Mr Mavaza, should zanu try even to amend s328(7) then s328(9) is a double safety catch

“Section 328(9) This section may be amended only by following the procedures set out in subsections (3),(4), (5) and (6), as if this section were contained in Chapter 4.”

If say zanu want to amend even the s328, it has to go for a referendum in order to allow the changes.

This must be clear to everyone that Malaba has no room to extend. Bye bye Malaba bye bye.

Youths Are Getting Exactly What They Deserve For Not Voting

By Taruberekera Masara, in Pretoria | Democratic space in Zimbabwe is suffocating and facing a painful death. The second Republic is seemingly determined to diminish the country into a one party dictatorship. This is particularly disastrous to the youths. They are not favoured by the policies and the politics of the day. This obtaining is a direct result of our apathy and lethargy to confront the elephant in the room head-on

Statistics from Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (2018) suggest that out of 5.69 million registered voters, only 44% constitute youth between the ages of (18-34). The figures shows how disengaged the youths are on issues that determines their lives and their future.Such stats speaks audibly on how we got to this circus that is throwing our future into disarray. We need to tap from the generational and demographic dividend that favours us.

For my generation (youths), our future is quite bleak. We may not have a pension, there are going to be no jobs, no houses for me and my friends to buy, we are going to rent for the rest of our lives. There’s is rampant corruption in the housing sector. There’s no security of investment. These are the direct results of our apathy.

Zimbabwean politics is allocative. It follows the definition that politics determine who gets what, when, why and how. To suggest this is how wealth is generationally distributed. The young remain income, investment and property poor compared to the older ones. If the youths remain outside political offices chances are that reaching for the feeding trough will be eternally a dream.

Without participating to change the status quo the youth will have to live with the choices they haven’t made. Policies made by people who have already lived their lives. When we went 2018 plebiscite the one thing we really wanted – was stability – which because of our apathy we don’t have. It is sad that we are loosing our most productive years to bickering and political misgovernment. This is partly because our voices are absent at the decision making table.

Still, amid the resentment there was some sympathy for an older generation adrift in the digital world that millennials navigate easily, and frustration about how all political parties had failed large swaths of the country.

One glimmer of hope for some is that the frustration of defeat, and awareness of what they have lost, may push young people toward political engagement.2023 might be a new dawn. Yet the painful truth is that history repeats itself.  If our voices remain absent in the chambers of decision making we will get to sustain lives based on realities of the people who are not alive to our situation.

It is painful that politics and politicians have created  systematic exclusionary tactics to an extent that there has been a dangerous tendency to blame voters for disengaging, rather than asking why politicians cannot inspire them. It is imperative that the respective political parties take a deliberate attempt to pull more youths into its structures so that deliberate actions on succession can be found and perpetuated.

Generational consensus is the best way of crafting timeless policies. It tends to reach out and include all demographic determinants. But as it stands the youths are in the periphery of everything. Issues that affect tend to be overlooked yet they’re are the 75% of the population. It’s not good enough. But we know how we got here

If the youths fail to surf their own ship, politicians can inflate what is essentially a rather plodding, earthbound struggle between capital and labour into a clash between generations, and keep that balloon in the air long enough, they might just distract us from the possibility of any practical solution. Power is not given it is demanded. Politicians will not think about us before they are done with their own issues. To them we are not considered a stakeholder, instead we’re a nuisance. The young have become the pigeons of the public realm, only remarked upon for their inexperience  or when they leave litter in a park.

Our lamenting is not just the economic impact of the weak economy that plunges us into unknown territories, but its incalculable personal cost.We will never know the full extent of the lost opportunities, friendships, marriages and experiences we will be denied. MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti once commented that they were inundated with divorce applications. Diaspora is breaking the family unit, marriages suffer, children grow without proper parenting.

As youths we need to get our game intact. Take the baton and fight for our space. We are wasting. Without a radical pursuit for inclusion we will be forgotten by history. It’s now or never.

Mnangagwa Consolidates Power, Pockets Judiciary

Last week’s move by the Zanu-PF dominated Senate to adopt the controversial Constitution Amendment Bill(1) is a brazen attempt to consolidate President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s grip on power while emasculating judiciary independence.

The Bill, which has sparked fierce debate across the political and civic society divide, will give Mnangagwa unfettered powers to directly appoint the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Judge President, seven years after Zimbabwe adopted a new constitution.

Prior to the amendment, which now awaits the President’s assent, judges were subjected to public interviews before nomination and appointment to the bench.

The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa, whose party has suffered severe setbacks characterised by the recalling of a number of its representatives by the MDCT under Douglas Mwonzora has indicated that it will challenge the legality of the Bill. Ironically, MDC-T, which previously criticised the Bill, voted alongside Zanu-PF Senators last week.

Chamisa’s impending court challenge will seek leverage from Section 147 of the Constitution which spells out that any motion lapses after the dissolution of Parliament as the reading of the Bill happened before dissolution of the Seventh Parliament in May 2018.

Even at that time, the Bill was criticised by former MDC Alliance legislators who argued that when the legislation sailed through parliament, it did not enjoy the backing of two thirds of the National Assembly as required by law.

Analysts said the Bill will benefit Mnangagwa who is angling to give Chief Justice Luke Malaba another lifeline after his tenure which is expiring next month.

Malaba, who handed down the Constitutional Court (Concourt) ruling affirming Mnangagwa’s victory against Chamisa following the disputed 2018 election is set to retire from the bench when he turns 70 on May 15, in line with the law.

But yet his tenure may be extended by another five years renewable annually if Mnangagwa’s political gymnastics via Constitution Amendment Bill (1) yield the desired results.

Malaba’s impartiality is put under scrutiny by Jonathan Moyo in his book Excelgate: How Zimbabwe’s 2018 Presidential Election Was Stolen who argues that the Chief Justice has always been in Mnangagwa’s pocket during the time Zanu-PF was engulfed by internecine factional battles which pitted Mnangagwa and a faction which had coalesced around Robert Mugabe in a bid to take over power from the longtime ruler.

Wrote Moyo as he chronicled how Malaba is alleged to have dealt with Chamisa’s ConCourt challenge: ‘”While there, Malaba received a copy of Chamisa’s ConCourt application from a senior legal officer at the Judicial Service Commission as he was relaxing by the swimming pool at Pretoria Sheraton Hotel.

“After reading the application Malaba turned to the judicial officer and asked him, ‘Is that all? To which the officer replied ‘Yes Sir’. Malaba then shook his head and remarked, ‘Okay akula lutho lah (there is nothing here). By those words, Malaba meant there was no case and he was going to have Chamisa’s application dismissed, even before the case was heard on its merits.”

Even as Mnangagwa manoeuvres to push through the Constitution Amendment Bill, his administration has been lethargic in aligning the country’s laws to the Constitution, which he is now attempting to shred.

The net impact of the amendment Bill, if it sails through, is that it will concentrate excessive powers in the hands of the executive, while weakening the judiciary, which will now be serving at the pleasure of the appointing authority – the President.

Across the House of Assembly and Senate, Zanu-PF has been the biggest beneficiary of various MDC Alliance representatives who were recalled by MDC-T in line with a court ruling.

Critics argue that the constitutional amendment Bill will consolidate Zanu-PF’s authoritarian rule.

Constitutional law expert Lovemore Madhuku contends that spirited efforts by Zanu-PF to push through the amendment, and concerted efforts by MDC Alliance to oppose the proposed changes exposed a tussle among “elites” to further their narrow interests without the involvement of citizens.

“The people of Zimbabwe must never be cheated to think that what is being amended is their constitution. What is being amended is a document of Zanu-PF and MDC. Which is why those who are amending it on one side are Zanu-PF and those who are opposing it vociferously are MDC. So what is bad about this country is that both the amendment and those opposing the amendment becomes a game of elites,” Madhuku said.

“The solution is going back to the drawing board and have a people’s constitution which will never be easily amended. Our problem is when political elites want to make the constitution their game because surely why would it be for Zanu-PF to amend and for MDC to oppose. So you make the constitutional war a war for the elites.” However, Crisis Coalition in Zimbabwe director Evan Vava highlights that the Bill would entrench Mnangagwa’s firm grip on power while compromising the independence of the judiciary.

“In essence, the Bill erodes the previous constitutional provision to subject the process of appointments of the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and the Judge President to public scrutiny and interviews.

“The Bill is thus an attempt to consolidate authoritarian rule through judicial capture and therefore merely seeks to serve the interests of ruling party politicians at the expense of the will of the majority who voted for the constitution in 2013,” Vava said.

Landlady Assaulted After Confronting A ‘Peeping Tom’ Tenant Who Gazed At Her While Bathing

A man from Sizinda suburb who beat up his pregnant landlady after she caught him peeping through the bathroom window while she was bathing has been arrested.

A family insider who spoke to B-Metro said the four months pregnant Thokozani Sibanda (45) got shocked after she heard a funny sound outside the bathroom window.

“When she turned to check, she saw her tenant Willard Sithole (37) gazing at her lustfully and she screamed. Willard whose other hand was touching his manhood shamelessly walked to his room while his manhood was protruding,” said a family insider.

The source added: “After that Thokozani confronted him and in a bid to cover up for his shameful act Willard violently pushed Thokozani, causing her to fall on the floor. He hit her with fists all over the body and also kicked her abdomen.”

Thokozani screamed for help.

“A neighbour dashed to her house and found her lying on the floor in the sitting room while groaning and clutching her stomach. Fearing that she could suffer miscarriage her neighbour quickly phoned an ambulance which arrived swiftly and ferried her to Mpilo Central Hospital. She has been treated and discharged,” said the family member.

Thokozani said: “I got angry after I saw him staring at me through the window while I was bathing and I had to confront him and told him I will report him to the police because he had developed a bad habit that when I was bathing he would peep through the window.”

Efforts to get a comment from Willard were fruitless.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed: “I can confirm that we arrested a man who assaulted his landlady after she accused him of peeping through the window while she was bathing.”

Youths Are Getting Exactly What They Deserve For Not Voting

By Taruberekera Masara in Pretoria| Democratic space in Zimbabwe is suffocating and facing a painful death.

Former Councilor In Bid To Reverse Fraudulent Joint Venture Between Harare And Fugitive Land Developer Ken Sharpe

By A Correspondent| Former Harare Councilor Warship Dumba has taken controversial land developer and fugitive Kenneth Raydon Sharpe and Local Government minister July Moyo to court over a ‘fraudulent’ joint venture agreement between City of Harare and an inexperienced Estonian company for the construction of houses in Warren Park, Hopley and Arcadia.

In a High Court application seen by ZimEye, Dumba together with Zimbabwe Homeless People Federation and a Harare resident Knowledge Tinashe Kwambana wants the joint venture agreement that resulted in the formation of Sunshine Development Private Limited company declared null and void.

According to the joint venture agreement in possession of ZimEye, Sharpe’s company Augur Investments OU which was a day old when the deal was signed would be entitled to 70 percent shares while City of Harare which contributed 99 hectares of land would only get 30 percent shares.

The litigants says the land provided by City of Harare as part of the agreement is worth over US$45 Million based on an independent valuation conducted by Mike Eric Juru of Intergrated Properties Private Limited.

According to the Shareholding Agreement, Sharpe’s contribution was a maximum of US$30 Million which is way less than City of Harare’s contribution to Sunshine Development Private Limited.

Local Government minister July Moyo is also a respondent in the High Court challenge filed by Warship Dumba

Harare Residents Slam Govt Over Unconstitutional Appointment Of Local Govt Board

The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) is concerned by actions of the government of Zimbabwe’s failure to adhere to the provisions of the Constitution with the recent move of constituting a Local Government Board that will be seized with employing senior council officials.

Despite the fact that the government has been touting devolution of power, the government is still clinging to unconstitutional provisions within the Urban Councils Act 29:15 to centralize power and control local authorities.

Section 135 (1)(a) and (b) gives the Local Government Board power to approve or disapprove recommended persons by council for employment on “senior” positions , these include Town Clerk , Chamber Secretary ,directors and their deputies.

Section 134 (1) States that “a council shall appoint persons approved by the Local Government Board to be seniors officials of the council.”

However, Section 274(2) of the Constitution asserts that “Urban local authorities are managed by councils composed of councilors” and Section 276 (1) reaffirm that “a local authority has the right to govern, on its own initiative, the local affairs of the people within the area for which it has been established, and has all the powers necessary to do so.”

The provisions of the Urban Councils Act 29:15 that gives power to the Local Government Board in hiring senior management of council is inconsistent with the Constitution of Zimbabwe. The constitution states “any law, practice, custom or conduct inconsistent with it is invalid to the extent of its inconsistency.”

The involvement of the central government in the selection and hiring of council employees has no place in any devolved system of governance as it weakens the council’s role in human resource management and accountability.

We envisage the reconfiguring of the state in compliance with Chapter 14 of the Constitution on devolution and the continued resistance to change is retrogressive and counterproductive.

We reiterate that the government expedites alignment of local government laws with the Constitution.

Mnangagwa’s Aide Grabs Hillside Land,

By A Correspondent| Lower Hillside residents are up in arms with an alleged President Emmerson Mnangagwa aide who has grabbed an open space at the corner of Glenara and Chiremba Road to set up a car sale business.

According to a ZimEye source, when residents and the area councillor confronted him, he did not produce an offer letter from council but some card which served as proof his proximity to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

After he produced his defence card, the Councillor and residents are now scared to confront him to stop the illegal development.

Residents fear that the development which has already seen the whole area including cycle and pedestrian track being fenced will result in msasa trees being cut down in the process damaging the environment.

“There a chap who annexed piece of council land. The said chap has fenced the area located at glenara and chiremba robots on the hillside side. Looks like he wants to set up car sale and most likely cut down the old msasa trees in that area. Neighbourhood association and councilor have tried to get him out but as soon as he said his defence of protection – card, works in president office or connected to him, everyone chickened out,” said the ZimEye source.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has in the past complained about namedroppers who use his name to get away with crime or getting access to opportunities.

A source at the City of Harare said the local authority is equally worried about these sprouting developments linked to top offices.

The local councillor and Hillside Neighborhood committee could not be reached for a comment on the development but are believed to have tried to approach the person who could only produce his defence card.

Masvingo City Employee In Hot Soup For Dating Troublesome Activist

City of Masvingo is investigating its Public Relations Officer (PRO) Ashleigh Jinjika ‘on many allegations’ including her alleged intimate love relationship with activist Prosper Tiringindi.

Tiringindi has been a constant thorn in council’s shoes for many years due to his abrasive activism and disruptive behavior, and sources said council was not amused by reports that their PRO is in a live-in relationship with him.

“There are indeed investigations that are happening. We investigate, get our facts right and suspend if there is a genuine need to suspend. We don’t suspend then investigate,” said Acting Town Clerk Edward Mukaratirwa who confirmed that the alleged relationship with Tiringindi was among the allegations.

When contacted for comment, Jinjika said she understood some investigations were being conducted into her alleged inappropriate behavior.

“I am waiting for what will happen next. Right now I haven’t received any suspension letter but I am informed the allegations stem from what happened at the press conference,” she said.

She dismissed as false reports that she was in a live-in love relationship with Tiringindi but said whom she got intimately involved with should never be an issue as that would be her own private life separate from her official duties.

Things got to a head on Tuesday, April 13, when Tiringindi, who is not a resgistered journalist, got into a press conference which was being addressed by Mayor Collen Maboke.

Being visibly under the influence of alcohol, Tiringindi then launched a tirade against Maboke, Mukaratirwa and Ward 10 Cllr Sengerai Manyanga; accusing them of maligning him and violating his rights to express himself freely on several platforms.

Members of the media who had turned up had to walk out for a while as they felt that the event was getting too personal, had lost its agenda and was degenerating into a circus.

The press conference was being moderated by Jinjika.

Battle Lines Drawn As DeMbare, Bosso Clash In Uhuru Cup

UNLIKE their old foes Dynamos who held a training game against Cranborne Bullets on Wednesday, Highlanders head to Harare for the Independence Cup final without testing themselves against any opponents.

Dynamos and Highlanders lock horns at the National Sports Stadium in the only major sporting activity that will entertain the nation in Sunday’s Uhuru celebrations, which will be broadcast live on television and radio.

Both teams are expected to parade their new signings when they clash in the first competitive domestic football match in over a year since sporting activities were suspended in March 2020 due to outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dynamos appear to have had better preparations compared to their rivals, who still haven’t shrugged off the year-long rust.

Bosso have only been confined to inhouse training and haven’t tried out any combination in a game situation.

On Wednesday, Ndiraya fielded two teams, with the first one made up of goalkeeper Taimon Mvula, Godknows Murwira, Tino Muringani, Partson Jaure, Jarrison Selemani, Juan Mutudza, Sylvester Appiah, Tinashe Makanda, Shadreck Nyahwa, Trevor Mavhunga and Newman Sianchali.

On paper this is a strong Dynamos side, but they reportedly failed to breach the army side’s backline in 45 minutes.

In the second half, Ndiraya sent in a new team that went on to win 1-0 courtesy of a Luke Musukuri goal.

The second-half line-up had Tanyaradzwa Jinja, Takunda Mawire, King Nadolo, Barnabas Mushunje, Frank Makarati, Tino Chiunye, Munya Mawadze, Emmanuel Jalai, Tanaka Chidhobha, Ali Maliselo and Kudzanayi Dhemere.

While Dynamos have managed to train as a group for at least a full week, with Nyahwa arriving at the Harare giants on Wednesday, Bosso coach Mandla Mpofu only had a full squad yesterday after the club finalised deals with new players.

Reigning Soccer Star of the Year Joel Ngodzo and Pritchard Mphelele were unveiled on Wednesday afternoon alongside seasoned midfielder Winston Mhango, defenders Andrew Tandi and Crispen Ncube and they trained with the rest of the squad for the first time yesterday.

However, Mphelele and winger Banda are doubtful for the Independence Cup final after picking up injuries at yesterday’s training.

Banda and Mphelele failed to finish the team’s training held at Barbourfields Stadium, with both limping off halfway through the session.

Both players were victims of crude tackles and picked up ankle injuries.

Mpofu said the duo was scheduled to meet the team’s medical team “late in the day”.

Besides the injuries to the pair, Mpofu was content with his players’ application at training.

“It’s unfortunate that Banda and Mphelele have picked up injuries and we hope they won’t be out for long seeing that we are only starting preseason. Their availability will depend on the medical team’s assessment, but we won’t risk them if they are not okay,” said Mpofu.

Orlando Pirates youth product, striker Roddie Sibanda, also missed yesterday’s session.- Chronicle

The incident occurred on Monday night in Machaka Village, under Chief Nerutanga, Buhera West. The cause of the blaze is yet to be established. There was no candle or lamp in the burnt hut. Twin siblings – Tanyaradzwa and Takudzwa Machaka (six) – were burnt to death, while Tinotenda Machaka (three) and Rumbidzai Chikomo (13) escaped with serious injuries and were pronounced dead on admission at Murambinda Mission Hospital.

Top Footballer Robbed At Gunpoint…

Three daring armed robbers pounced on former Manchester United defender, Chris Smalling Friday morning and robbed him of his Rolex, jewellery and other valuables.

The Roma defender was inside his home with his model wife and two-year-old son when the armed robbers broke in and forced him to open the family’s safe.

Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claims Smalling’s wife, Sam called and notified the police just before 5 am and officers arrived at the family’s villa, located around 25 miles south of Rome.

The publication further reports that the trio was very distressed when the police arrived.

Smalling was in his Rome villa at the time of the robbery with his wife Sam and two-year-old son Leo

The same report claims police are still investigating the incident and Roma have offered support out to the player.

Smalling joined Roma Italian club from Manchester United on a permanent deal last year, after having initially joined in the summer of 2019 on a loan deal before making the move permanent 12 months later.

He has been linked with a move away from Roma at the end of the season with Juventus and Inter Milan said to be interested in the England international.

The defender, rated at around £12million, enjoys living in Rome but this horrifying situation could open up doubts about his future.

The reported incident is the latest in a series of cases where intruders have targeted the homes of Serie A footballers, managers and other sporting personalities over the past year.

Earlier this year, the home of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie was burgled while the American was playing for the Serie A side against SPAL in the Italian Cup quarter-final on January 27.-Daily Mail

Tinashe Sambiri| A youthful political activist was severely tortured by State Security agents for attending MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala’s court session in Harare on Thursday.

The young activist, Lengwani Mavhunga was also burnt with chemicals.

“This young man Legwani Mavhunga has been badly tortured by the State security agents yesterday after he was caught at Rotten Row Magistrates Court on the grounds of attending my court.

I am told he has been burnt with an unknown substance on his face and tortured all over his body.

I am shocked by reports I am getting that people were randomly beaten outside Rotten Row Magistrates Court yesterday without cause because my Court session was in motion.

This barbarism needs to stop. Why are people being assaulted without cause?

I have never come across the drama like the one I saw 2day(yesterday) at Rotten Row Magistrates Court, where the State retreated from its undertaking to commence my trial on spurious inciting Public Violence charges.

Tout Killed By Kombi Conductor

By A Correspondent- A Chiweshe-based tout (Hwindi) was allegedly killed by a commuter omnibus (Kombi) conductor in a horrific accident that occurred after the two exchanged blows on Wednesday.

Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo reported that the now-deceased, Nigel Dyariwa, had a misunderstanding with Victor Nyainga, a conductor and fought physically. Dhliwayo said:

The conductor and the now-deceased had a misunderstanding and the two fought. The kombi driver, Patson Rande, disembarked from the driver’s seat to restrain the two from fighting.

The conductor ran to the driver’s seat and drove away while Dyariwa latched onto the driver’s door precariously. During the fracas, the conductor failed to control the kombi and hit a tree and the vehicle overturned and landed on top of Dyariwa, thereby killing him on the spot.

The tout’s body was ferried to Concession Hospital for post-mortem.

Police always urge members of the public to resolve their issues amicably.

Meanwhile, private-owned Kombis that are not contracted to the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) are still banned from the roads also though operators have been violating that legislation.

Recently, a Masvingo man broke his leg after being thrown out of a kombi that was engaged in a high-speed chase with a police vehicle at Caravan Park recently.

Madzibaba, Njuzu Clash Over Nude Videos…

A Zimbabwean model based in SA called Njuzu is being accused of performing ritials via nude videos.

Madzibaba Anderia from Harare said as he was watching Njuzu’s video, the Holy Spirit told him that the lady was a ritualist.

“Hongu video ndakariona kanosvika kagumi, asi mweya wematare ukanditi musikana uyu ane mushonga.

Sources claim Njuzu took the charm from “slayqueen godfather” Isaac Makomichi.

“I once called him and he said I should buy his oil, apply it to my face, take a selfie and post it to the guy I love,” an investigative journalist told ZimEye.com.

Njuzu is attracting a huge following on her social media platforms.

We Will Arrest Anyone Who Ignores Independence Celebrations: Minister.

Kazembe Kazembe

A government minister has suggested the state will arrest anyone who does not attend this year’s independence celebrations.

The Herald reports claiming that some local and international organisations are providing funds through individuals and the civic organisations to cause disturbances during this year’s 41st Independence anniversary.

Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe was quoted urging the public to ignore messages, as the Herald stated: circulated by the MDC Alliance that call on people not to celebrate and observe the country’s independence.

All gatherings for the anniversary in excess of 50 people have already been banned as part of efforts to control Covid-19 infection rates.

“My ministry has directed the Commissioner-General of Police (Godwin Matanga) to take action on some political activists, individuals and civic organisations being fronted by the MDC Alliance and have openly threatened to engage in a series of illegal demonstrations dubbed ‘The Winter Jest’,” said Minister Kazembe.

“The police and other security services will be on high alert and ready to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. May I warn those who are planning and coordinating these illegal demonstrations that the law will take its course.

“Local and internationally based organisations who are providing funding through individuals and the so-called civic organisations’ proxies are duly warned to stop fomenting disorder in the country and will be held accountable for any criminal acts perpetrated by groups who are obviously bidding for opposition political parties in the country.”

Police are already monitoring the venues where secret meetings are being held to mobilise for illegal demonstrations. The peace and safety of all citizens was guaranteed as Zimbabwe celebrates its 41st Independence Day tomorrow, said Minister Kazembe.

He said people were free to conduct all lawful activities in a peaceful manner and taking into consideration the Covid-19 prevention measures.

“Covid-19 knows no boundary, creed, status or religion,” he said. “In this regard, Zimbabweans should observe and comply with the Government of Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 health and safety protocols.

“We can only fight this invisible enemy if we remain united as a people. May I reiterate His Excellency, President E.D Mnangagwa’s message that no gatherings will be allowed during this independence holiday.

“The public should continue prioritising the wearing of face masks, practicing social distancing and sanitisation at all times. Social gatherings, which include churches and funerals, should strictly observe the stipulated maximum of 50 people.” Police have been challenged to ensure that all the Covid-19 regulations were complied with.

Government is concerned that some church and funeral gatherings are openly exceeding the stipulated number of 50, with some gatherings going beyond 1 000. Some church congregants and mourners were clashing with police officers on enforcement duties.

“These are a conduit for Covid-19 super-spreaders,” said Minister Kazembe. The law will take its course without fear or favour on such errant gatherings which expose the public to Covid-19 pandemic.”

Man Crushed To Death In Fight With Hwindi

A Chiweshe-based tout was allegedly killed by a commuter omnibus conductor in a freak accident that occurred after the two exchanged blows on Wednesday.

According to Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo, the now-deceased Nigel Dyariwa had a misunderstanding with Victor Nyainga, a conductor and fought physically.

“The conductor and the now-deceased had a misunderstanding and the two fought. The kombi driver Patson Rande disembarked from the driver’s seat to restrain the two from fighting,” Dhliwayo said.

“The conductor ran to the driver’s seat and drove away while Dyariwa latched onto the driver’s door precariously. During the fracas, the conductor failed to control the kombi and hit a tree and the vehicle overturned and landed on top of Dyariwa, thereby killing him on the spot,” he said.

His body was ferried to Concession Hospital for post-mortem. – Newsday

EU Says Zimbabwe Needs At Powerful Opposition

Head of the European Union (EU) delegation in Zimbabwe, Timo Olkkonen, has said Zimbabwe deserves a viable and people-driven opposition to effectively keep the government under check.

Speaking on HSTV’s FreeTalk on Thursday, Olkkonen said for democracy to prevail in Zimbabwe, a viable opposition must be able to stand up and challenge the Zanu PF government when it deviates from the norm.

His comments came amid reports that the bloc told MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora at their meeting a fortnight ago that it did not recognise his leadership because he did not participate in the 2018 presidential elections.

Mwonzora met the EU diplomats two weeks ago in a bid to facilitate dialogue between the bloc and President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

“Having a viable opposition that challenges and questions the government is very important,” Olkkonen said.

“So I do recognise those concerns that when you don’t have that kind of an opposition that would have a mandate from elections. It’s an important issue and that’s why I can understand why those statements are being made.”

The MDC Alliance emerged as the biggest opposition after the 2018 harmonised elections with 2,1 million votes for its presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa. The MDC-T came a distant third with its presidential candidate Thokozani Khupe garnering a paltry 45 000 votes.

However, on March 30 2020, the Supreme Court ruling effectively gave powers to the MDC-T, leading to a series of recalls that have seen the faction, now led by Mwonzora with the majority in Parliament and priding itself as the biggest opposition outfit.

The MDC Alliance has accused the MDC-T of conniving with Zanu PF to decimate Chamisa’s party ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.

Mwonzora, on his part, has warmed up to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, saying he was dropping the “politics of rancour” in favour of a non-confrontational approach.

The United States, in its latest report that summarises the situation in Zimbabwe since February 2020, dismissed the MDC-T as a “minor opposition” that was aided by the State to decimate the MDC Alliance.

Olkkonen called on the government to ensure that after the MDC Alliance MPs and councillors’ recalls, voters must be allowed to elect their preferred representatives.

“I would not want to go into partisan politics and comment on that. People’s representatives are lacking, which is the case now when the people have been recalled but there is need for a remedy and there will be need for elections, for people to express their will and that is why we hope that the situation will be addressed,” he said.

Olkkonen also warned that the proposed Patriotic Bill meant to criminalise, among other things, private citizens’ engagement with foreign countries, would further strain relations between Harare and the EU.

Diplomatic sources have warned that the re-engagement plan could go up in smoke if Mnangagwa persists with his push for the Patriotic Bill.

“The passing of the Patriotic Bill would change the relations between the EU, international community and Zimbabwe, that will hurt relations deeply. This is the general feeling in the discussions among diplomats,” a source said yesterday.

Olkkonen, however, refused to comment on the issue raised by other diplomats, but said the EU remains concerned about the Bill.

“We are closely following the political environment as we are moving to the next elections, and of course trying to play our part in the social and economic sphere and it’s important for us because the EU is planning its future co-operation with Zimbabwe,” he said.

The Patriotic Bill seeks to foster patriotism and criminalise talking bad about Zimbabwe. -Newsday

Anxiety Disorders …

Masterfile
Stress and anxiety often go hand in hand (stress can be what causes anxiety symptoms, and anxiety can make stress worse). When you’re overly tense, you may also turn to other behaviors that make anxiety worse, such as smoking, abuse of drugs, or abuse of alcohol. Remember that stress and anxiety are often accompanied by physical symptoms such as stomachache, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating.

If you have unexplained symptoms of anxiety, talk with your doctor. Anxiety disorders are treatable…

Man Bashes Wife For Failing To Cook Properly

A woman who has been physically and verbally abused by her husband for being a bad cook has rushed to the courts to seek a protection order.

Loraine Dombo of Nketa 7 suburb in Bulawayo initially enjoyed the warmth and love of her marriage in the first three years. But after that things took a U-turn, causing her marriage to turn sour.

According to Dombo her husband Ishamael Nkomo became abusive soon after he started taking alcohol.

He would come home drunk and hurl insults at her in front of their children while accusing her of being a poor cook.

He would not stop at that as he would hit Dombo with open hands and kick her all over the body.

He would also throw away the food that she would have cooked for him, saying it was poorly cooked.

When he is done with his wife, he would turn to the children and bitterly insult them, forcing them to scurry for cover. At times he would beat them.

Dombo had to approach the Western Commonage civil court for intervention to stop her husband from physically and verbally abusing her and their children.

“I’m applying for a protection order against my husband Ishamael Nkomo. He comes home drunk and starts insulting me in front of our children.

“After that he would assault me with open hands and booted feet while saying I’m a poor cook. He would also throw away the food that I would have cooked for him saying it’s poorly cooked,” she said.

The distraught Dombo said her husband would also unleash verbal attacks on their children.

“After harassing me he would turn to our children and would insult them for no apparent reason, forcing them to hide in the bedroom and would also hit them while threatening to kill them so as to fix me,” she narrated.

The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted Dombo a protection order against her abusive husband and ordered Nkomo to stop beating his wife and children and to also stop threatening to kill his children so as to punish his wife.- B- Metro

Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe is one of the youngest MPs in the Zimbabwean parliament…

I have known her for a long time and I have worked closely with her since our days in Zimbabwe National Students Union-Zinasu.

Over the years in which I have worked with her, she has always been passionate about what she does.

I can confirm that she is not a criminal but just a conscious Zimbabwean who is desirous of a different Zimbabwe.

It is regrettable that the Zimbabwean government considers her a criminal and they are detaining her in prison.

Today it might be her, tomorrow it might be you or me; let us unite and stand up against the weaponization of law.

Muzadzi Speaks On Suspension

Dynamos goalkeeper’s coach Gift Muzadzi says he is a victim of circumstances after he was suspended from the club this week.

Muzadzi was hit with a sanction along with goalkeeper Simba Chinyani for alleged insubordination and sabotage.

Speaking to the Herald, the gaffer revealed that the issues cited in his letter of suspension include his visit to the club’s board chairperson Bernard Marriot’s residence where he wanted to engage the chairman over his future at the club.

He was in the company of players Chinani, Partson Jaure and Godknows Murwira.

“What actually happened is, on Friday, we went for vaccination,’’ said Muzadzi.

“After that, the guys, Simba Chinani, Partson Jaure and Godknows Murwira were going to the board chairman’s residence.

“They wanted to apologise to the team, through the board chairman after they had initially refused to agree on contracts. What was being said was that the board chairman was the one who didn’t want them to be signed by the executive.

“But, one of the executive members called one of the players’ handlers to say go and talk to the board chairman, because it is not the board chairman who is against the signing of the players, but the club’s chairman.

“So, I was told that the players were going to meet Marriot to ask for forgiveness. The head coach directed me to go with them.”

Muzadzi disputed allegations he confronted the club’s treasurer after their training session on Saturday at Prince Edward and complained about salaries.

“As a technical team, we got US$15, which we were supposed to share for the days we would train, until the Highlanders game.

“And, I asked, how was it possible that five people could share US$15?

“The response I got was that this was the money that was available and I said, ‘But guys, that’s an insult, the treasurer can’t do this to us, it’s better to tell us that there is no money, as coaches, as long as they have given the players’ money for transport.’

“We can always find our own way to the session.

“I then met him (the treasurer) at the gate and I said treasurer, thank you for the insult, that’s what I said, US$3 for the whole week.’’

Meanwhile, head coach Tonderai Ndiraya is hoping for a quick resolution to the Gift Muzadzi debacle.

Logarusic Already Thinking Of Leaving Warriors ?

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic has dropped a hint as to where he might end up coaching after his tenure as national team coach ends.

The outspoken Croat inked a two year deal to become the Warriors coach in January 2020.

He has so far helped Zimbabwe to cross the line for AFCON 2021 qualification but has not ruled out a possible return to Ghanaian Premier League side Asante Kotoko, a club he managed for just four months in 2017 before being sacked.

“Maybe in the future when I am free and if the position is open, why not?,” Loga said on Ghanian radio Ashh FM, when asked if he considers returning to the club as some point in the future.

“Asante Kotoko is a big name and if the situation is right, then sure. I was expecting to be Kotoko coach in 2011, 2012 or even 2013 because of the results I produced in Ghana [with King Faisal and Ashanti Gold] but nothing came and then from nowhere in 2017, the opportunity opened up for me to coach the club.”

“This means in our job, we always have our suitcases packed, ready to go because you never know when an opportunity will open up,” he added.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Overzealous Cops Bash Citizens During Hon Sikhala Court Session

The State asked for more time to obtain what it described as forensic evid,” Hon Sikhala wrote on Twitter.

Ibrahimovic Faces Three- Year Ban

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly facing a potential three-year ban from all football activities due to an investment in a Malta-based betting company.

The 39-year old AC Milan striker, through his company Unknown AB, owns 10% of the shares of Bethard, a gambling site with offices registered in Malta.

He was announced as an ambassador and co-owner of the company in 2018.

But according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, as cited by Daily Mail, the former Barcelona and Manchester United star is now under probe as his involvement in Bethard contravenes FIFA and UEFA statutes which do not allow players to have financial interests in gambling companies.

The publication also claims that the Swedish Football Association have been aware of Ibrahimovic’s partnership in the business for the past three years, and it is the reason the forward’s return to international foot was delayed after retiring in 2016.

He finally made his comeback last month in the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia.

The participation in the competition, plus his appearances in the Europa with Milan, has now reportedly prompted FIFA and UEFA to take steps to punish the star.

And this could earn him a three-year ban, at most, or a hefty fine.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Continued Trial Postponement Of Covid-19 Funds Thief, Obadiah Moyo Suspicious!

16-04-2021

Reports that the State keeps on postponing trial date of Covid-19 funds looter, Obadiah Moyo stinks with suspicion.

The snail paced manner at which the State is pursuing one of the worst corruption scandals by a former Cabinet Minister summarizes the nature of justice delivery system we have in this country.

It is clear that Obadiah Moyo who is Emmerson Mnangagwa’s close relative is untouchable hence these unscrupulous attempts by the regime to let the case die a natural death by continuous postponements of trial date.

The plan is to let go Obadiah Moyo off the hook by crooked means.

It is a case of a corrupt criminal in a corrupt justice system!

There seems to be a directive from the office the appointing authority, President’s Office to the Prosecutor General’s Office to dilly-dally on Moyo’s case until it loses public interest so that he will be eventually let go.

Put into contrast how the State fast tracks trumped up cases of political activists like Makomborero Haruzivishe vis-a-vis that of genuine criminals like Obadiah Moyo who was placed before the courts more than a year ago but is yet to be tried.

Despite bare incriminating evidence, a criminal, Obadiah Moyo is breathing fresh air while innocent souls like Makomborero Haruzivishe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Joana Mamombe are languishing in prison.

It is time to end these games in our justice system!

Political Activist Tortured, Burnt By State Security For Attending Hon Sikhala Court Session…

The State asked for more time to obtain what it described as forensic evid,” Hon Sikhala wrote on Twitter.

What Causes Anxiety?

Masterfile
Stress and anxiety often go hand in hand (stress can be what causes anxiety symptoms, and anxiety can make stress worse). When you’re overly tense, you may also turn to other behaviors that make anxiety worse, such as smoking, abuse of drugs, or abuse of alcohol. Remember that stress and anxiety are often accompanied by physical symptoms such as stomachache, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, and sweating.

If you have unexplained symptoms of anxiety, talk with your doctor. Anxiety disorders are treatable…

‘Continued Trial Postponement Of Covid-19 Funds Thief, Obadiah Moyo Suspicious!’

MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Statement

Youtube Blocks TB Joshua Channel Over Gay Cure Content

Pastor TB Joshua, the controversial Nigerian televangelist, hits Mary Okoye’s head and she falls to the floor. When she gets up, he hits her again and tells her to call her “second”, another woman he refers to as Okoye’s “wife”.

Joshua slaps and pushes Okoye and the unnamed woman at least 16 times and tells Okoye: “There is a spirit disturbing you. She has transplanted herself into you. It is the spirit of woman.”

This scene, which appears in a video uploaded to YouTube in April 2018, then changes to events a week later. Okoye, accompanied by her mother and two sisters, testifies before Joshua and his congregation that “the spirit of woman” had been destroying her life. But now, thanks to Joshua’s intervention, she has “no affection whatsoever” for her “second” and “now I have affections for men”.

The video has been watched more than 1.5 million times on TB Joshua Ministries’ YouTube channel. It appeared first on Emmanuel TV, a television station owned by Joshua’s Lagos megachurch, The Synagogue, Church of All Nations.

Between 2016 and January 2020, the channel posted at least seven similar clips showing the charismatic Christian televangelist engaging in violent exorcism to “cure” gay and lesbian congregants of their sexual orientation by casting out “the demon of homosexuality”.

YouTube closed the channel, which had more than 1.8 million subscribers, on 12 April after openDemocracy contacted it to ask whether this content violated the platform’s community guidelines.

“YouTube’s community guidelines prohibit hate speech and we remove flagged videos and comments that violate these policies. In this case we have terminated the channel,” a YouTube spokesperson told openDemocracy.

YouTube says it “prohibits content which alleges that someone is mentally ill, diseased, or inferior because of their membership in a protected group including sexual orientation”.

“It is great to see social media platforms take a greater role in tackling these harmful practices by banning accounts spouting hate speech and promoting conversion practices,” said Daina Rudusa, spokesperson for OutRight Action International, the global LGBTQI human rights organisation.

“So-called conversion therapy is neither therapy, nor does it result in conversion” and it has been recognised as being “tantamount to torture”, said Rudusa.

OutRight’s Yvonne Wamari, who manages a project fighting conversion therapy in Africa, said that research among the LGBTQI community in Nigeria found that almost half of the respondents had undergone similar rituals, mostly conducted by religious leaders.

Facebook content still up

The TB Joshua Ministries Facebook page has more than 5.6 million followers. Unlike YouTube, which terminated the ministries’ entire channel, Facebook says it has “removed a number of pieces of content from this page for violating these policies”.

“We don’t allow attacks against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, including content promoting conversion therapy services,” said a Facebook company spokesperson. “We take attacks on the LGBT+ community incredibly seriously and encourage people to report this kind of content when they see it so we can investigate.”

Facebook’s hate speech policy “prohibits attacks against people based on their protected characteristics, which include sexual orientation and gender identity”. This  includes “content promoting conversion therapy services which aim to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity”.

But at the time of publication, this 16-minute video in which Joshua claims that a young man, Eugene Monama, “is a man with a woman inside him”, was still available on the ministries’ Facebook page.

During their exchange, Joshua describes Monama as walking and talking like a woman, while slapping and punching him numerous times. The pastor then says he is casting out the “spirit of woman” and claims Monama is “free”. Later, Joshua’s officials cut off Monama’s dreadlocks and the young man says he is no longer attracted to men.

Facebook post: TB Joshua mocks Eugene Monama, claiming that he is effeminate.

One of the exorcisms since taken down from Facebook claims to “cure” a man of “the bondage of the spirit of homosexuality and bedwetting”.

Emmanuel TV is broadcast throughout Africa by DStv, which is owned by the MultiChoice Group, an entertainment company based in South Africa. MultiChoice did not respond to openDemocracy’s query about whether Emmanuel TV’s content violated the country’s Constitution, which prohibits discrimination against people on the basis of their sexual orientation.

openDemocracy also asked TB Joshua Ministries to comment on its pastor’s actions towards LGBT people, and on its YouTube channel being terminated for hate speech. The ministry did not respond. However, it has launched a social media campaign to contest the decision, which it claims was “made in haste”.

‘Prosperity gospel’ meets homophobia

TB Joshua, a Nigerian pastor in the “prosperity gospel” mould, is said to be one of the 20 richest preachers in the world. In 2015, he was reported to have bought a $60-million Gulfstream jet via a front company.

In 2011, Forbes estimated his net worth at $10-15-million. In 2006, Joshua and his wife, Evelyn, were named in the Panama Papers as having incorporated a company called Chillon Consultancy Limited in the British Virgin Islands, according to Nigeria’s Premium Times. However, Joshua denied this.

Hanzline Davids, who works with the Inclusive and Affirming Ministries (IAM), a pan-African network that champions LGBTQI rights in religious organisations, says that Joshua promotes the notion that LGBTQI people are “bad spirits” blocking prosperity.

“Parents from poor communities bring their children that are LGBTQI-identifying to Joshua’s services, in the hope that their ‘bad omen’ child will be turned into something good, and they will start to have ‘good luck’ and prosperity,” says Davids, who is a former reverend with the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa.

For the people taken for these “conversions”, said OutRight’s Wamari, “these practices have a long-term negative impact on every realm of life, causing deep, lasting trauma, which contributes to internalised homophobia, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and substance abuse as a coping mechanism. In a number of instances, individuals have taken their lives.”

TB Joshua remains popular in South Africa despite the collapse of a Lagos guesthouse belonging to his ministry which resulted in the deaths of 116 people, including 85 South Africans. Joshua was charged for the poor workmanship of the guesthouse, despite claiming it collapsed because a “mysterious plane” had flown over it, but the case has yet to be heard in court.

Madzibaba: “Yes I Watched Njuzu’s Video, Ane Mushonga,Wese Akariona Achamupfimba”

“Hongu video ndakariona kanosvika kagumi, asi mweya wematare ukanditi musikana uyu ane mushonga.

“I once called him and he said I should buy his oil, apply it to my face, take a selfie and post it to the guy I love,” an investigative journalist told ZimEye.com.

Njuzu is attracting a huge following on her social media platforms.

Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe A Fearless, Dedicated Young Freedom Fighter

By Obey Sithole MDC Alliance Youth Assembly national chairperson

Hubby Forced To Wash Plates At Knifepoint

By A Correspondent- Men usually suffer in silence when they are abused by their wives, but Louis Moyo who has been enduring a tough time at the hands of his violent wife, who threatens to stab him to death, summoned the courage to drag her to Western Commonage civil court in Bulawayo.

Moyo’s wife has been verbally, emotionally and physically abusing her husband. He has been forced to do household chores by his wife Bertha Ndlovu. Whenever he fails to do so his wife bashes him and verbally insults him, calling him lazy.

Each time the two were involved in an argument, Bertha would go to great lengths and threaten to axe him to death or wave a kitchen knife in the air while threatening to stab him to death.

Fearing for his life, the hapless Moyo had to seek a protection order against his abusive wife.

“I’m applying for a protection order against my wife, Bertha Ndlovu. She is very violent as she forces me to wash plates or do laundry and if I ask her to help me she would accuse me of being lazy. After that she would hit me with open hands,” he said.

He added: “Each time an argument arises over a domestic issue, she would pick a kitchen knife and wave it in the air while threatening to kill me with it and or at times she would rush to the bedroom and pick a small axe under our bed and threaten to axe me to death. I have tried to reason with her on several occasions but she never listens to me as she is very harsh and she would insult me for no apparent reason.”

Moyo said he has suffered enough abuse at the hands of his wife.

“She has abused me more than enough. I therefore apply for a protection order against her so that she stops insulting me or beating me. I also pray that she would stop threatening to kill me,” he begged the court.

The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted him a protection order against his abusive wife and ordered Bertha not to verbally abuse her husband and she was also ordered not to beat him or threaten to kill him.

S_ex Worker Stabs Ex Over Unannounced Visit

Peter Mpofu (45) was left bleeding after he was stabbed in the neck, forehead and hand by his sex worker ex-girlfriend for visiting her without notice.

Mpofu, who lives in Nketa suburb, visited his ex-lover, Pamela at her place in Tshabalala on Sunday last week.

He arrived in a drunken stupor and the source said he could barely string a coherent sentence.

“Pamela is a sex worker. When Peter arrived at Pamela’s place, she was sleeping in her room with her lover. Peter knocked at the door and demanded that she opens the door for him while shouting on top of his voice that Pamela was his prostitute and she should open the door for him so that they could have sex,” said a source close to investigations.

The source went on to say Pamela told him to leave since she was no longer in love with him, but he kept on knocking at the door.

This seems to have caused Pamela’s blood to boil, prompting her to storm out of her room.

“She questioned him on why he had visited her without her knowledge since they were no longer in love. Peter shouted obscenities at her, while claiming that they were still in love. Pamela got angry and fumbled in her bra and took an Okapi knife and stabbed him three times, once on the forehead, once in the neck and also once on the right hand,” said the source.

He bled profusely and passed out, said his neighbour, who only identified himself as Moyo.

Pamela fled and is still at large.

Mpofu was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital by his neighbours.

A report was made to police.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that a 45-year-old man was stabbed three times by the suspect whom he claims was his ex-girlfriend. The suspect is on the run. We are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the lady. Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station or send a tip – off to 0960358.”

Contacted for a comment Mpofu said: “Pamela was my ex-lover and I usually visited her whenever I felt the need to do so, but that day I found her with another man and she was drunk. She accused me of having visited her without notifying her, after that an argument ensued, and at the height of it she stabbed me three times.”

S_ex Starved Wife Pleads With The Court To Force Her Husband Back Into Their Matrimonial Bed

WHAT do you do when you’re married and your partner doesn’t want to have sex anymore?

Such is the dilemma being faced by a 50-year-old woman from Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North province who sued her 54-year-old husband for neglecting his “marital duties” by refusing to have sex with her.

Peggy Nkomo from Mabutweni Line, claimed her husband of more than three decades, Morgan Mhlanga, has not initiated sex once in at least six years.

The couple is sleeping in separate bedrooms.

In her application for a protection order at the Bulawayo Civil Court, she claimed her husband was not only abusive, but was also at fault for “incapacity to meet his duties as the father of the house”.

She, however, caused a raucous in court when she passionately begged the presiding magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube to “force” her husband to come back to their matrimonial bedroom, a plea she made while indicating that she had stayed for so long without her husband’s intimacy.

“Morgan Mhlanga is my husband. He has been abusive since we started staying together until the time he moved out of our matrimonial bedroom and that was six years ago. He has been hitting me whenever he feels like he wants to beat me. He is now staying in a separate bedroom and does not talk to me anymore despite the fact that we are staying in the same house. He also does not allow me to use some of the matrimonial property and is now cooking on his own,” complained Nkomo.

She said her husband was also harassing their children and grandchildren.

In response Mhlanga defended his actions of slapping his wife with sex sanctions saying she was “talkative”.

“I moved out of the bedroom to avoid confrontation because she talks a lot. It’s not true that I am harassing her and the children. I’m so close to my children and grandchildren to an extent that they even call me bhudas (brother). I am surprised why she is saying I’m abusing her since it’s almost six years without talking to her,” responded Mhlanga.

His response impelled the magistrate to ask Nkomo: “Why are you saying the respondent (her husband) is harassing you when he doesn’t talk to you? What do you mean?

“It’s true that we are not on talking terms since 2016 because when he moved out of the matrimonial bedroom, he took all the blankets. My request now is that I want him back to the bedroom because I don’t have a man. Where am I going to get another husband? What pains me is that when he married me, I was 19 years old and he is now refusing to sleep with me despite the fact that I still need a man,” Nkomo passionately pleaded while throwing her hands in the air.

“But I can’t force him to sleep with you. I really can’t. That is not the purpose of this court. The purpose of this court is to protect you whenever I’m satisfied that there are repeated incidents of domestic violence that put your life in danger,” responded the magistrate.

In her ruling the magistrate dismissed Nkomo’s application for lack of merit.-statemedia

Local Pharmacy MedOrange Breaks New Ground

MedOrange

HARARE, Zimbabwe – Zimbabweans abroad can now buy medication online and have it delivered to family at home, via a new platform developed by a leading local pharmacy.

MedOrange, a local pharmacy chain, has launched a product that allows users to remotely access medicines, pharmaceutical care, health, and beauty products.

COVID-19 has been a key driver in accelerating the growth of Zimbabwean tech businesses offering purchases online, and MedOrange’s new online store adds to its existing range of MedOrange retail outlets.

Managing Director of MedOrange Pharmacies, Diana Hore, says:

“Our world-class online store is built for such a time as this, offering a full range of pharmaceutical and allied services at highly competitive prices. This is also supported by a robust door to door delivery service which offers an unmatched convenience to our diverse customers across the country’’.

MedOrange’s online store is powered by Contitouch Technologies.

Research shows that 30% of the US$1 billion that is sent to Zimbabwe in remittances annually is used to pay for health care services. However, Zimbabweans abroad find it hard to pay for the medication efficiently, with middlemen charging exorbitant commissions to buy and deliver medicines. By using technology, the need for “runners” is eliminated, according to Hore.

“In developing this platform, we spent a significant amount of time talking to people, both in Zimbabwe and in the Diaspora, to understand their needs. What they want is a transparent, efficient and affordable way of paying for medication for their family and friends in Zimbabwe,” Hore says.

The platform will rely on MedOrange’s network of pharmacies to provide seamless service from the purchase of medicines, via www.medOrange.com, to a delivery service. Some of the formerly Booties Pharmacies in Zimbabwe have been rebranded to MedOrange.

Data shows that the global online pharmacy market is predicted to grow to over US$131 billion by 2025 at an annual growth rate of over 20% in revenue. The industry is heading towards an unprecedented growth in both developed countries developing economies, and Zimbabwe will not be left behind.

While the demand for self-health care has grown, there has not been enough platforms that allow easy online access and delivery. This has left many, both in Zimbabwe and abroad, at the mercy of “runners” who charge commission, Hore notes.

“The MedOrange platform eliminates third parties in the ecosystem and provides an efficient and direct bridge between the pharmacy and the end-user,” she says. The MedOrange online shop provides delivery services to all major towns and cities in Zimbabwe.

The company has plugged in to payment platforms such as EcoCash, local banking, Visa and Mastercard, which allows users at home and outside the country options.

“We believe our platform will continue to make a huge difference in the shift to online, fighting against COVID-19 and making medicines accessible to the underserviced areas,” Hore adds.

“Learners Sent Home Over Teachers’ Strike. Who Is Suffering Here?”

Dear Editor

The right to education for children is a globally recognised basic right and is enshrined in our constitution. Anyone who takes away this right from children must not only condemned but immediately arrested on a serious crime of destroying aspirations of future leaders.

Sadly, today pupils at Murowa School were sent back home as the teachers claim to be on strike.

Who is suffering here, is it the employer or the pupils? These are the very same teachers who spent the whole year getting paid for nothing.

These are the very same teachers whose results leaves one with a lot of questions on thier qualifications and capabilities. These are the very same teachers who spend 365 days living in school houses.

It is time for hard decisions and tough action. If the employer can pay the teachers what they want let it be done now. There is need for a reasonable compromise between the two parties failure to then the teachers must either resign or be fired for the sake of our kids.

Our children must not be used as political tools. We want our kids to learn and our teachers to earn. We can’t have salary negotiations from January to December. Parents must unite against this deliberate generational genocide.

Please we want our kids to learn. If those in government ensure this fundamental right please resign now. Heads must roll and big heads fall within the government as laziness and mercenary attitude is weeded out.

All civil servants must serve with the highest degree of professionalism and those responsible for their welfare must do so earnestly and honestly.

Wife Harms Husband’s Privates For Divorcing Her

By A Correspondent- In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a Bulawayo woman allegedly ‘severed’ her estranged husband’s scrotum and penis with her nails apparently in anger after she was reportedly served with a divorce token.

Beauty Manhenhe tore Luckson Gopo’s testicles during a divorce-fuelled row at their house in Nkulumane 5 suburb.

Gopo, who was left in ‘excruciating pain’ after the attack on his genitals, was reportedly rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he was treated for the shocking injury.

This was heard at the Bulawayo Civil Court, where Gopo was seeking a protection order against Manhenhe saying she was always threatening him with violence. So chilling are the threats that Gopo claimed his estranged wife was also threatening to scald him with boiling water or cooking oil.

“Beauty Manhenhe is my ex-wife. We divorced on 25 March 2021, and I left her at her parents’ house in Gweru on the understanding that she would come back with her aunt to collect her belongings. She, however, followed me and she doesn’t want me to leave her. She is disturbing my peace as she is always threatening me with violence and I took those threats seriously.

“I moved out of the house to go and stay at my brother’s place after she attacked me on my privates. Since she always shows violent behaviour towards me, I pray for this court to grant me a protection order against her so that I may live a peaceful life free from any harassment as she has also promised to scald me with hot water or cooking oil on several occasions,” said Gopo while tendering a medical report which shows that he sustained severe lacerations on his scrotum and penis, the injuries suspected to have been inflicted by sharp nails.

He further said Manhenhe should also be banned from going to his workplace.

In her response Manhenhe, however, said she was still married to Gopo.

“He is still my husband because I still do everything for him. We didn’t divorce. We are just fighting and he once phoned my aunt that she comes and settle our disputes. It is also not true that I’m threatening him. The day he suffered those injuries we fought and I also sustained injuries on the head,” responded Manhenhe.

In coming up with a ruling, the presiding magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube took into consideration the fact that the parties’ marriage was on the brink of collapse.

“The parties are definitely in a bad patch showing that they are not in good relations. Applicant claims they have divorced, respondent says they have not. They have both tendered evidence showing they sustained injuries.

“Since the court is not satisfied on the divorce of the parties, I will not give an order on the eviction of either parties from their matrimonial home. A reciprocal order is hereby granted and both parties are ordered not to assault or utter threats of violence at each other,” ruled the magistrate.

Nothing Must Be Left To Chance, Declares ED. Mobilising His Vote Rigging Juggernaut

By Nomusa Garikai- President Emmerson Mnangagwa continues to mobilise Zanu PF’s vote rigging juggernaut in preparation for the by-elections and 2023 harmonised elections.

Two weeks ago he called on the war veterans to mobilise and this week his cabinet approved the reopening of the Border Gezi training centres for the party’s “green bombers” youth militia. The war veterans and the green bombers were the party’s foot soldiers in the party’s strategy of intimidating, harassing, beating and raping to cow the people into submission and vote for the party.

Mnangagwa is extending his mobilisation to the rest of the party leaders and members with the call to revive the party’s structures.

“Structures must remain intact. We cannot approach the next election with an assumed membership base. It is fundamental that we know the figures of those who will potentially vote for us at disaggregated ward, constituency and provincial levels. Nothing must be left to chance,” he said.

“The 2023 harmonised general elections are fast approaching. Let us, therefore, continue tightening our belts and diligently implementing programmes with a greater sense of urgency.”

Zanu PF has never left winning the elections to chance. As far as the party is concerned, holding free, fair and credible elections and thus giving the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country, is tantamount to leaving everything to chance.

Zanu PF did not leave winning the 1980 elections to chance; the party’s election campaign message was that the bush war would continue if the party did not win the elections. The party’s Zanla army was stronger than the other armies on the ground and so the people voted to end the war.

Initially, some people dismissed Zanu PF’s war threats as harmless electioneering banter, all such doubts disappeared when the party launched its 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre.

The primary objective of the Gukurahundi massacre was to force the late Dr Joshua Nkomo and his PF Zapu leaders to disband and join Mugabe’s Zanu PF. Dr Nkomo signed the 1987 Unity Accord paving the way for the imposition of the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship that has ruled the roost ever since.

To secure its iron grip on power, Zanu PF has corrupted every state institution; the Police, Judiciary, Army, Public media, etc. turning each into a Zanu PF department in all but name. The party has nationalised many of the country’s companies and appointed party loyalist to run them in a move designed to consolidate the party’s power and influence at the expense of the individual’s freedoms and rights including the right to hold those in public office to democratic account.

Those who hold public office must be accountable to the people, the public, on his behalf and interest they are supposed to act at all times. The holding of free, fair and credible elections, in which the people have the power to remove and replace those in public office is the essence of good governance.

Those in position of power and authority must never ever forget that they are mortals and, per se, fallible. So whenever those in positions of power and authority deny the people a meaningful vote they are, per se, proclaiming themselves infallible. And that is exactly what Zanu PF has done.

Of course, Zanu PF are not infallible, the country would not be in the economic and political mess we are in otherwise.

Indeed Zimbabwe is up to her eyes in this economic mess as can be seen with complete collapse of bait services such as education and health care, million now living in abject poverty because the nation has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging regime for 41 years and counting. Zanu PF is not leaving anything to chance in its preparation to rig the coming elections and extent the party’s rule.

Enough is enough! People must demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to restore all the individual freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections. If Zanu PF does not implement the democratic reforms to restore the people’s right to a meaningful vote then the 2023 elections must be declare null and void.

Zanu PF has blatantly rig the elections, ever since the country’s independence in 1980, and got away with it every time. It will be insane to allow this to happen ever again.

MDC Alliance Calls On Local Authorities To Reduce Municipal Rates

By A Correspondent- The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has called upon various local authorities across the country to reduce municipal rates as the majority of ratepayers cannot afford them.

Some of the rates proposed by councils and authorised by the Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo average between 500 and 700 per cent.

In a statement on Thursday evening, MDC Alliance Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development, Sesel Zvidzai said the party has engaged with stakeholders in several councils in the past two months with a view to reducing the rates and service charges to levels that can be afforded by the people.

Said Zvidzai:

Our own expert assessments suggest that reductions of between 20 and 30 per cent will not harm the financial positions of most of the councils. The reductions may cause some gaps in some municipalities.

Additionally, Zvidzai demanded that Treasury fills in the so created gaps by transferring funds to the local authorities timeously and equitably.

The national constitution stipulates that a minimum of 5 per cent of the national budget be transferred to local authorities in support of service delivery demands.

Zvidzai said it incumbent upon the central government to intervene to even out the negative effects of COVID-19 lockdowns on the capacity of the people and business to generate income.

Zim Born Pathologist Sued Over George Floyd Cause Of Death “Slur”

Zimbabwean-born pathologist, Dr David Fowler, has been testifying for the defence in the murder trial of fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin charged with killing George Floyd.

The South African-trained pathologist who was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is currently being sued for civil rights violations and covering for police stating they did nothing wrong in the murder of Anton Black.

Fowler graduated from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 1983 and is the former state of Maryland chief medical examiner.

The Zimbabwean-born pathologist reviewed Floyd’s case for the defence and told the court on Wednesday he considered the cause of death to be undetermined.

Fowler stated there were many factors that could have contributed to his death, including heart disease and exposure to vehicle exhaust fumes during his restraint by the police.

He said Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck was not a significant factor in his death adding the deceased was living with up to a 90 percent narrowing of his arteries before he died.

The pathologist also argued that Chauvin’s knee wasn’t near Floyd’s airway. He, however, agreed that Mr Floyd should have been given immediate medical attention when he went into cardiac arrest as there still was a chance to save his life.

Some Americans and South Africans have weighed in on Fowler’s involvement in the case.

A tweet by author and CNN commentator Keith Boykin is what triggered the responses. Boykin tweeted on Wednesday:

Of all the forensic pathologists in the world, why did Derek Chauvin’s defence team pick a guy who graduated from the University of Cape Town in SA in 1983, when SA was still a racist apartheid regime?

Floyd’s death sparked protests across the world as protestors called for equal treatment of Africans globally.

The police officers who arrested Floyd were responding to a call that had suggested that the deceased had used a fake $20 note at a local restaurant.

It was later discovered that the money was not fake.

ED Mnangagwa knows his things

…. Zimbabwe is in safe hands….God bless.

Freeman Chari, a US-based MDC activist said the project was not worth celebrating.

He said:

My issue with this government is its penchant to celebrate mediocrity. Karanda stonewalk was built 2 yrs ago and Mnangagwa wanted to open it in December 2019 but it was swept away (US$5m). Instead of cracking the whip, they gave them more money to do same shoddy stuff. The ruling ZANU PF posted a picture of the bridge and the president saying it was one of president Mnangagwa’s success story.

ED Says Zim’s State Of The Roads Are In A State Of Emergency

The president posted on social media platforms after the commissioning of the bridge announcing his commitment to the rehabilitation of the roads across the country.

He said:

Zimbabweans, our roads are in a state of emergency. It pains me to see so many potholes on our once great highways. We must act urgently. Today my government committed ZW$33.6 billion to rapidly rehabilitate 10,000 kilometres of Zimbabwe’s roads. I will not let you down

The development attracted varying responses with some arguing that the bridge was insignificant for a whole president to commission it.

One comment on Twitter read:

That’s small bridge those are the work of Sabuku or councils that to waste our taxpayer money for that shit shows the highest level of incompetence by the Mnangagwa Gvnt are you not shamed of that celebration that small bridge as a achievemnt hence the road itself its dust.

Another one said development must not be confined to a few regions but reach every corner of the country.

Read the comment:

Let’s hope it’s not a Mashonaland only fund. We also pay taxes in Midlands and Matebeleland.

Another one said that the bridge was not even linked to any road.

It reads further:

Lets say they want to start it over from the roots until they reach to the morden spaghetti road kkkkkkkkkik our useles government.

A Twitter handle named Dark Force suggested that the development was a non-event. Read the comment:

I won’t open my mouth, let me keep quiet until Mnangagwa comes and officially open it.

Others suggested the bridge should have been named after the president instead of Karanda.

Reads one comment:

This should have been named Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa bridge. They must put their names to these things.

Another one compared and contrasted the actions of President Mnangagwa and those of Rwanda President Paul Kagame and concluded that Zimbabwe was coming from a bad to a worse situation. The above comment reverberates the view that President Mnangagwa is worse than his predecessor the late Robert Mugabe.Another comment on Twitter suggested that the president was in the right direction.

Govt Ordered To Reimburse Motorists Who Paid USDs To Get Number Plates

Government has been ordered to reimburse motorists who paid for new vehicle registration plates in foreign currency since July last year, but failed to get them.

In a landmark ruling on Wednesday, High Court judge Justice Webster Chinamhora also ordered government to stop charging for the vehicle registration plates in United States dollars.

The ruling was made after a motorist, Mfundo Mlilo, represented by Tendai Biti, challenged the decision by the Transport ministry to charge US$80 for a set of vehicle registration plates saying it was unjustified as the country was officially transacting in Zimdollars.

The judge also ruled that the Transport ministry had no locus standi to levy charges in US dollars.

Biti confirmed the ruling in a tweet: “Pursuant to an application we filed in October 2020, the High Court today set aside SI [Statutory Instrument] 161 of 2020 which obliged payment of vehicle plates in US$. Justice Chinhamora ruled that Min of Transport had no power of levying charges in US$. Govt must now refund motorists.”

Mlilo approached the High Court in October last year, a month after his imported Subaru car was impounded by the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) for failing to display registration plates.

He was ordered to pay US$80 in order to get temporary plates and an additional $100 for inspection before his car was released.

“The impounding of my vehicle without a court order and without due process was wrong and unlawful, this in the first part of this application I seek a declaratory to the effect that in impounding my vehicle without warranty and without an order of court as he did on September 21, 2020, the respondent acted unlawfully,” he wrote in his application.

“The first respondent (Transport minister) is thus running a (money) raising scam in respect of which he is levying and collecting US$ for number plates and in the process, huge amounts of money.”

Mlilo said after his victimisation, he carried out research and established that on July 8, 2020, the Transport minister in terms of section 53 of the Vehicle Licensing Act Chapter 13:14 published the vehicle and licensing Amendment Regulations 2020, known as SI 16 of 2020.

He challenged the SI arguing that the sole legal currency operating in Zimbabwe was the Zimbabwe dollar, also commonly referred to as Real Time Gross Settlement.

Mlilo said he was a human rights activist in Zimbabwe and throughout his life, had been fighting for protection of these rights.

“Throughout my life I fought for protection of human rights. I grew up in Matabeleland, where my family were victims of Gukurahundi. I lost several members of my family to the atrocities associated with Gukurahundi,” he told the court, citing it as a reason he why he pursued the case.

He added: “I, therefore, seek for a declaratory order in terms of the draft. I also seek a declaratory to the effect that the Minister of Transport’s impounding of my vehicle on September 21, 2020 was unlawful and not backed by any law.

“I am entitled to the benefit and protection of the Finance Act, which codifies for the use of the Zimbabwe dollar. By enacting SI 166 of 2020, the minister has denied me equal protection and benefit of SI 142 of 2019, as incorporated in the Finance Act No 7 of 2019.”

Byo Shebeen Queen Escapes Jail Sentence For Scalding Client Who Demanded US$2 Change

A 34-year-old shebeen queen from Ntabazinduna Flats in Mzilikazi suburb escaped jail for scalding her colleague who was demanding US$2 change from her.

Brilliance Hlomayi took a kettle from the stove and poured hot water on Ms Kgomotso Nkosi who lives at the same flats after they quarrelled over the change.

Ms Nkosi sustained serious burns on her left upper arm. She was attacked following a misunderstanding after the shebeen queen told her that she had given her change to one of Ms Nkosi’s friends.

It was not stated in court what Ms Nkosi had bought. Hlomayi pleaded guilty to assault charges before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Rachel Mukanga.

She was jailed for two months with an option of paying a $10 000 fine before April 25. Asked by Ms Mukanga why she committed the offence, Hlomayi said she failed to control her emotions as Ms Nkosi wanted to attack her and her child.

She also appealed for leniency saying she had realised that she caused great harm to Ms Nkosi.

The magistrate said the court will not condone such inhuman behaviour. She said a medical report confirmed that Ms Nkosi suffered serious burns. Sentencing her on Monday, Ms Mukanga said a just sentence provided the option for a fine for the offence.

Prosecuting, Mr Terence Chakabuda said on April 3 at around 7PM at Ntabazinduna Flats in Mzilikazi suburb, Hlomayi, a shebeen queen, had a misunderstanding with the complainant over US$2 change which Ms Nkosi had left.

“The accused informed the complainant that her change had already been collected by one of her friends. They had a misunderstanding resulting in the accused person rushing and taking a kettle which was on the stove with boiling water and poured it on the left upper arm of the complainant,” said Mr Chakabuda.

ED Says He Is Pained By The Sight Of Potholes He And Mugabe Ignored For 37 Years

President Mnangagwa has said he is pained by the potholes on the country’s “once great highways” while committing $33,6 billion towards the rehabilitation of 10 000kms of the country’s roads.

Cabinet in February declared the country’s road network a state of disaster as most of the roads have become untrafficable following damage by heavy rains that were received across the country.

Posting on his Twitter account, the President said the country’s roads need urgent attention.

“Zimbabweans, our roads are in a state of emergency. It pains me to see so many potholes on our once great highways. We must act urgently. Today my Government committed $33,6 billion to rapidly rehabilitate 10,000 kilometres of Zimbabwe’s roads. I will not let you down,” tweeted President Mnangagwa.

Most Zimbabweans have said it is a nightmarish experience driving on pothole riddled roads, especially on the country’s highways.

Driving along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, the country’s gateway to the Mighty Victoria Falls is now terrible for drivers as parts of the road are littered with potholes as a result of heavy rains.

A number of trucks get stuck on the side of the road while others lose control when avoiding potholes.

The same is true for Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road as the highway has been dilapidated due to incessant rains that were experienced this season.

Sikhala Trial In False Start

The trial of MDC Alliance vice-chairperson Job Sikhala, who is being accused of inciting public violence, failed to commence after the State indicated that it needed forensic results of the audio evidence in its possession.

The State, represented by Garudzo Ziyadhuma, asked for postponement of the trial, saying they were waiting for forensic results on audios that purportedly feature Sikhala.

But the defence, led by harrison Nkomo and Jeremiah Bhamu, opposed the application for postponement, saying the State indicated that it had completed its investigations in September last year.

Nkomo said the postponement of the matter violated his client’s right to liberty after it has been postponed on several occasions.

Magistrate Stanford Mambanje postponed the matter to next Wednesday for trial. Sikhala is being accused of inciting the public to commit violence by propagating audios and video of incitement.

Meanwhile, former Cabinet minister Priscah Mupfumira, who is accused of criminal abuse of office, has applied for her matter to be conducted separately from that of former permanent secretary Banarbas Matongera, who is facing similar allegations.

Mupfumira submitted that she wanted to be separated from Matongera so that she can rope him in as a defence witness.

The matter was postponed to next Wednesday for ruling.-Independent

Wiwa: Violent State Provocation Will Have Devastating Consequences

FRIENDS OF JOB SIKHALA SOLIDARITY TRUST:

16 April 2021.

The violent behavior displayed by the police against innocent and peaceful friends of Job Sikhala, who came to Rotten Row Magistrates Court for solidarity at his trial on fake charges of inciting public violence can not go unchallenged. The police came full in their truck and started assaulting hundreds of people who wanted to get into Court and follow the proceedings. These people remained calm throughout despite assaults and denial to enter the court. After being denied to enter the Court, they sat peacefully outside waiting for the proceedings to complete and disperse thereafter only for them to be assaulted randomly without notice and flew into different directions. This has to STOP. It’s unacceptable and if it persists, we do what we know best.

To our shock and surprise, the police came and started assaulting everyone at the vicinity of Rotten Row Court. This pushed the people to regroup in Harare CBD and showed their displeasure through a demonstration. The demonstration that took place in Harare, yesterday was provoked by the police.

This should send a clear message that, we as the Friends of Job Sikhala, will not tolerate to be abused for no apparent reasons. If the behavior displayed by the police yesterday at Rotten Row persists on Wednesday the 21st of April 2021, where we will converge once more again to hear the judgement of the application made by his lawyers, we are going to SHUTDOWN, Harare. We generally don’t make empty threats as our history demonstrate in the past. We dare the police to behave the way they did yesterday at Rotten Row and we assure you that we will retreat into the CBD and what comes thereafter will be the consequences of the behavior of the police.

It won’t be business as usual in Harare. It won’t operate on the day in question. We will do what we have been denied to do by the dictatorship of Emmerson Mnangagwa. We will shut it down easily. This we will carry it out. Stop the abuse you did yesterday and this is a WARNING .
