MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Statement On Return Of Green Bombers

National Youth Service Re-establishment: Mnangagwa Laying Ground For Violence In 2023 Elections

14-04-2021

The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly is deeply concerned about the news that Emmerson Mnangagwa’s cabinet has approved the re-establishment of the so-called National Youth Service Programme.

While the idea of the National Youth Service is a noble one as is the case in other parts of the world, it is the nurture in which it has been done and abused in Zimbabwe in the past that makes it suspicious.

In particular the way in which the youths were used as instruments of terror in previous elections.

In the past the National Youth Service became a reproduction machine for violent thugs for ZANU PF with neither skills nor sense of genuine patriotism.

The ‘green bombers’ as products of National Youth Service are infamously referred to were trained as party militia who were unleashed on their very own parents ahead and post 2008 harmonised elections.

Limbs and lives were lost at hands of thugs churned out from a political party controlled National Youth Service!

Sadly the people who were at the forefront of this kind of a National Youth Service that caused our people untold suffering during Robert Mugabe’s time, are the very same criminals who are now pushing for its re-establishment now.

Mnangagwa is very much afraid of a peaceful, free and fair electoral contest against a popular and youthful Nelson Chamisa ahead of the 2023 showdown.

He knows very well that 2023 is his Waterloo hence these desperate attempts to resuscitate a National Youth Service to be used as merchants of violence and intimidation as we head towards elections.

It is also important to note that the idea of a re-establishment of National Youth Service is being mooted at the same time the regime is pushing for the introduction of a Patriotic Bill to insulate Mnangagwa from scrutiny by citizens.

What is important to note here is that Mnangagwa is pursuing his one party stage agenda using both lawfare and coersion.

The coersive part is where the National Youth Service is coming in to force citizens to vote for ZANU PF in 2023 elections.

As the MDC Alliance Youth Assembly we are totally against the re-establishment of the National Youth Service especially given that it is being driven by a political party to pursue their parochial interests.

Confirmed : Peter Muduhwa Starts Training With Bosso

Peter Muduhwa has joined the Highlanders camp ahead of the start of the 2021 season.

The defender returned home after a short unsuccessful stint with Tanzanian giants Simba SC. He had joined the club on a six-month loan but terminated the contract just three months into the deal.

Muduhwa didn’t feature in any game in the Champions League where he was only eligible to play, missing all of the team’s match-day squads in Group A.

The lack of game time prompted him to return to his parent club ahead of the new season.

He took part in the team’s medicals on Tuesday and is expected to feature in the Independence Cup against Dynamos this weekend.

The Sunday’s encounter, which is part of the Independence Day celebrations, will open the 2021 season and mark the return of football in the country after a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The venue for the match is National Sports Stadium in Harare.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Musona To Stay At KAS Eupen

Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has reaffirmed his desire to stay at KAS Eupen beyond the end of the season after the expiration of his loan spell.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Team Panda from Anderlecht, a club he joined in 2018 but struggled to get game time before being loaned to Eupen.

Musona’s deal at Eupen ends at the end of the current season and even though the Aces Youth Academy graduate says he has no idea what will happen, he insisted he would prefer staying at the Bernat San Jose-coached side.

“Eupen is like my home,” said Musona after Friday’s defeat to Standard Liege.

“I’m happy here. I have always given my best but for next season, I don’t know anything yet,” he added.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Breaking : Masvingo Prophet “Anoints” Weed, Beer

Beer

Own Correspondent |Unbelievable things are happening in this country …

Some believers say these are the signs of the end of time.

Controvesial Masvingo preacher and slayqueens godfather Isaac Makomichi has triggered widespread debate after ” blessing” weed and beer in the country.

“If you drink beer you must always come to God and thank Him for his blessings upon your life.

If you are addicted to weed you must pray before taking it then God will bless you.

Don’t allow people to judge you because you smoke weed or you take alcohol, ask God to bless you. From today I bless those who take weed and beer.

Beer is now blessed and the one who drinks it will be blessed, pray for good behaviour before taking weed,” said Makomichi.

“The prophet said we should not judge people because they take alcohol,”said one believer.

Sources say Makomichi is the one who supplies love charms to famous slay queens.

Tinashe Sambiri|Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration on Tuesday stunned the nation after announcing the reestablishment of the dreaded National Youth Service.

Why the Sounds of Nature Are So Good for Health and Well-Being

New data finds that even listening to recordings of nature can boost mood, decrease stress, and even lessen pain.

According to new data, listening to birdsong helped decrease stress.Mia Kievy/iStock
The whoosh of wind through a stretch of forest, birds calling to one another as they land on branches, the gurgle of a brook over a rocky bed — these are the kinds of sounds that are not only calming, but could have profound health and well-being benefits, according to a research review in the April 2021 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

For the review, the researchers looked at 18 studies investigating the health benefits of natural sound; study participants listened to recordings of outdoor sounds in laboratory settings. Participants reported less stress and improved health outcomes, like decreased pain, after listening to recordings of nature sounds.

Water sounds, such as that gurgling brook or a steady waterfall, tended to be the most effective at improving positive affect (the psychological term for a more positive outlook or disposition and the experience of joy and interest), while bird sounds were best for lowering stress.

The study’s lead author, Rachel Buxton, PhD, a research associate and conservation biologist in the Department of Biology at Carleton University in Ottawa, says she isn’t surprised by the findings. “From an evolutionary perspective, humans are hardwired to attend to signals of danger and security. And an environment that is filled with natural sounds feels safe and allows us to let our guard down,” she says.

This research adds to a substantial body of evidence that proximity to nature and time spent outdoors is good for human health and well-being.

Research Shows Green Space Benefits Health in Many Ways
Research published in June 2019 in Scientific Reports found that people who spent just two hours per week outside in a natural setting (including town parks, state parks, woodlands, and beaches) reported greater well-being compared with people who spent less time outdoors.

Return Of Green Bombers – A Telling Reminder Of Zanu PF’s Appetite For Killing Opposition Members

Re-establishing National Youth Service is a rude reminder of Zanupf’s appetite to torture and butcher social democrats, Mdc Alliance Namibia posits!

14 April 2021

Mdc Alliance Namibia castigates the overzealous Zanupf Minister for Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation for re-establishing the satanic cult of violence in the name of the National Youth Service Training programme popularly known as the ‘Border Gezi’. This sadist attempt to bring back the violent Zanupf militia disguised as youth empowerment must be resisted with adequate commitment. We are aware that Zanupf looters long to exploit the vulnerable youths ahead of 2023 harmonised elections. The same Zanupf secret police was created in 2002 towards the presidential poll that was marred by politically motivated violence.

As Mdc Alliance Namibia, we urge all unemployed and poverty-stricken youths to resist these hypocrites who masquerade as socio-economic transformers. Before, during and after the 2002 bloody elections, we witnessed highest levels of human butchery perpetrated by these ‘green bombers’ who were used by the late Robert Mugabe to silence voices of dissent in Zimbabwe. We saw opposition activists and human rights defenders exposed to state-sponsored violence as a way of breaking their resolve to vote for late doyen of Constitutional Democracy President Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai who had stolen the revolutionary hearts of many citizens.

Moreover, it is a pathological lie that the programme is designed to equip the youths with patriotism, discipline, volunteerism, survival skills, hardwork, tolerance and honesty. We are Cognisant of the hypocritical nature of this clueless Harare regime. In 2002, we saw these poor youths used to frog-march unwilling populace to Zanupf rallies. We are very confident that the desperate regime wants to re-start its torture and murder of innocent citizens using our youths. It is now imperative for all our youths to regain their political and national consciousness to figure out the need to fight Zanupf shenanigans. It was used by Zanupf terrorists to rig elections through killing with impunity, intimidation and torture in the rural constituencies.

We have learnt our political lessons as a people and now is the time for the youths to reflect on this lunatic move to nurture violence in government institutions. This idea of Zanupf-sponsored violence must see wide resentment from our right-minded youths who should continue to demand better livelihoods. Zanupf is also desperate to indoctrinate council employees and they are also trying to compromise our doctors through the same evil nature. Zimbabweans must pent up their outrage demanding respect for our youthful generation.

In a nutshell, through our #OneMillionCampaign launched by our vibrant Youths last year, we shall obviously soldier on with our recruitment, mobilisation and radicalisation of the base for the change that delivers. Mdc Alliance Namibia is confident that our youths are not going to be fooled by these fake patriots who pretend to love the youths towards elections. Our youths must resist being condomised by the rogue ,politically inept Zanupf morons. The unprecedented arbitrary arrests and detention of our youths is a testimony of an careless government. We salute our youthful, organic and pragmatic leadership who are being incarcerated for demanding equality and justice before law.

#BREAKING- Former Zim Cricket Captain Slapped With 8yr Ban Over Corruption

Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak has been banned for eight years after being charged with – and admitting to – five breaches of the ICC’s anti-corruption code, including accepting a payment in bitcoins from a potential corruptor.

Streak, Zimbabwe’s greatest fast bowler, had been under investigation for an extensive list of games through 2017 and 2018, during his post-playing career as a coach, from his time in international cricket – with Zimbabwe from 2016 to 2018 – as well as stints in T20 leagues including the IPL, the BPL and the Afghanistan Premier League (APL).

The charges paint a picture of Streak as a facilitator of approaches by a corruptor to people within teams he was a part of. But they also include one charge of disclosing inside information pertaining to matches during a 2018 tri-series involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, a Zimbabwe-Afghanistan series in 2018, the 2018 IPL and the 2018 APL.

Streak was also charged with facilitating or attempting to introduce four players – including a national captain – to a potential corruptor. The three other charges revolve around his failure to disclose receiving gifts or payment in lieu of this facilitation, the failure to disclose potentially corrupt approaches in the 2017 BPL, and, in 2018, the PSL, IPL and the APL. Those gifts include accepting two bitcoins – converted eventually into US$ 35,000 – from the potential corruptor identified in the ICC’s investigation as Mr X. At the APL, Streak was also gifted a new iPhone for this wife, both of which he failed to disclose to ICC anti-corruption investigators.

Although he is believed to initially have contested the allegations, Streak eventually admitted to the charges and agreed to the sanctions. He is now banned from all cricket activities and would be free to resume his involvement again on March 28, 2029.

“Heath Streak is an experienced former international cricketer and national team coach, who had participated in numerous anti-corruption education sessions and was fully aware of his responsibilities under the Code,” the ICC’s anti-corruption head Alex Marshall said in a statement. “As a former captain and coach, he held a position of trust and owed a duty to uphold the integrity of the game. He breached the Code on several occasions, including facilitating the approach of four other players. At times, he also sought to obstruct and delay our investigation.

“The offences did not affect the outcomes of any relevant matches and Mr Streak has agreed to assist the ICC anti-corruption education programme for which we are grateful. He has also expressed his remorse and contrition and entered this agreed sanction decision to avoid the need for a full disciplinary process. The sanction reflects this cooperation.”

The sanctions will come as a shock to many given his status as one of the greatest players Zimbabwe has produced. He was a major figure in the national sides of the mid-to-late 90s, a period in which they enjoyed their greatest successes. He remains the only Zimbabwean bowler with more than 100 Test wickets (he has 216) and the only Zimbabwean with over 200 ODI wickets (237). Streak captained Zimbabwe as well in the 2000s, during a difficult periods when a number of players withdrew from the national side and as relations between the board and team hit rock bottom.

He has since remained in cricket as a coach, with stints as bowling coach of Bangladesh and multiple stints with Zimbabwe. He was also bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

The charges

2.3.2 – disclosing inside information under both the ICC code and various domestic codes, in circumstances where he knew or should have known that such information may be used for betting purposes. In particular, he disclosed inside information in relation to matches in the 2018 tri-series involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan series in 2018, the IPL 2018 and the APL 2018.

2.3.3 – directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any participant to breach the code. In particular, he facilitated or attempted to facilitate the introduction of four different players, including a national captain, to someone he knew, or should have known, may have wanted to approach them to provide inside information for betting purposes.

2.4.2 – failing to disclose the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that the participant knew or should have known was given to them to procure a breach of the code or that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.

2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the code including in relation to international matches, matches in the 2017 BPL, the 2018 PSL, the 2018 IPL and the 2018 APL.

2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC Anti-Corruption code.

  5. Article 2.4.7 – obstructing or delaying an investigation, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and / or that may be evidence of or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Alex Marshall, ICC General Manager, Integrity Unit, said: “Heath Streak is an experienced former international cricketer and national team coach, who had participated in numerous anti-corruption education sessions and was fully aware of his responsibilities under the Code.

“As a former captain and coach, he held a position of trust and owed a duty to uphold the integrity of the game. He breached the Code on several occasions, including facilitating the approach of four other players. At times, he also sought to obstruct and delay our investigation.

Marshall stated that Streak’s offences did not affect the outcomes of any relevant matches and the Zimbabwean has agreed to assist the ICC anti-corruption education programme for which the world cricket governing body is grateful. Streak has also expressed his remorse and contrition and entered this agreed sanction decision to avoid the need for a full disciplinary process, with the sanction reflective of his cooperation.

ED Issues Directive For Chilonga Villagers Displacement

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has directed that no villagers should be displaced by an irrigation project to be implemented by government in the Chilonga area of Chiredzi.

Last month, the State came under fire for attempting to displace over 12 000 Chilonga villagers to set up a lucerne grass farming project after it issued Statutory Instrument (SI) 50 of 2021, which was then repealed and replaced with SI 72A of 2021.

On Sunday, Mnangagwa dispatched his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, to Chilonga to “communicate key decisions of government to chiefs, headmen, councillors and MPs in Chiredzi, ahead of a massive irrigation project planned for the district.”

Yesterday, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba tweeted: “Through the Vice-President (Constantino Chiwenga), President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa directed that the list of beneficiaries for the giant Kilimanjaro sugarcane covering 4 000 hectares be drawn anew to ensure beneficiaries are locals in the main.

“The President has taken a poignant interest in who is who on the list to ensure that government policy of local empowerment is not defeated by land barons from
elsewhere intent on displacing locals, as happened during the colonial era when commercial cane agriculture took form through international finance capital.”.

He said government was embarking on the development of key infrastructure, such as bridges, roads and soft communications to improve mobility and access to markets and inputs in the area.

“Development of Chiredzi falls within a broader national plan targeting for development of all marginal areas of Zimbabwe, principally Binga, Gwai-Shangani, Beitbridge, Chiredzi itself, Middle Sabi, Nyashanu, Rwenya and Kanyemba,” Charamba said.

“The key word is development, not displacement as claimed by detractors. At the heart of this national master plan for depressed areas is community empowerment through diversified irrigated agriculture, mining and eco-tourism. Development of communication infrastructure, principally road networks, telecommunication broadcasting services is a key enabler in the matrix, as is also the intensification and upgrading of livestock in these zones which lend themselves eminently to animal husbandry.”

He said during the same visit by Chiwenga, a new water policy was unveiled at Tugwi-Mukosi Dam, which would meet water requirements of commercial agriculture in Chiredzi district.

During his visit, Chiwenga told villagers that the irrigation project was aimed at uplifting marginalised areas like Chilonga.-newsday

“Dialogue Will Safeguard Our Members From Harm”- What Nonsense?

By Nomusa Garikai- It was America’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell who pointed out just how incompetent MDC leaders are and how they can be a burden, not an asset, to the nation.

In a leaked cable back to Washington, Ambassador Dell said Morgan Tsvangirai was “a flawed and indecisive character who will be an albatross round the nation’s neck if he ever got into power.” The Ambassador said similar things about the rest of the MDC leaders.

The MDC leaders’ failure to implement even one democratic reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU proved beyond doubt they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. They have compounded their pathetic performance during the GNU by participating in flawed and illegal elections and thus giving the vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy.

What is really infuriating is the MDC leaders have known all along that by participating in the flawed elections, they will be giving credibility to the process and legitimacy to the result as David Coltart, one of the MDC leaders, has admitted in his book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote  Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

They have always offered one feeble excuse after another participating in these flawed and illegal elections in 2013 it was “failure to agree a coalition”.

Four of the main MDC factions plus three other opposition parties came together to form the MDC A and still there was no talk of boycotting the flawed elections. “MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” Nelson Chamisa announced.

Right now MDC A led by Chamisa and MDC -T led by Douglas Mwonzora are all gearing up to participate in the 2023 elections; without even one token democratic reforms in place, it goes without saying Zanu PF will rig the elections. Each MDC faction is offering its feeble excuse for participating.

Ever since the July 2018 elections, Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A friends have been threatening roll out street protests to pressure Mnangagwa to accept political dialogue leading to the formation of a new GNU. Chamisa and a number of his follow MDC A leaders were hoping to get cabinet positions.

It is now just over two years to the next elections in 2023, Chamisa has but given up all hope of another GNU and the recall of most of the MDC A senators, MPs and councillors in the last year has left MDC A weak, confused and, most significant of all, broke.

Still, Chamisa continues to call for street protest. MDC A is banking on millions of people coming out on the street to vent their anger at this Zanu PF regime that has presided over the economic meltdown. If the people do not come out and join the street protest, MDC A will be hoping they will vent their anger by coming out in the millions to vote for change and thus overwhelming Zanu PF’s vote rigging shenanigans.

Douglas Mwonzora is hoping to use his new found political muscle, many of the elected MDC A senators and MPs have since joined MDC-T to avoid recall, to push for dialogue with Mnangagwa leading to the formation of a new GNU. He and his MDC-T friends will be allocated ministerial position complete with limos, generous salaries, etc.

“If we adopt the politics of confrontation, the members who will be beaten up, tear-gassed, killed and hurt are opposition members,” argued Mwonzora.

“The market will stall and small businesses that will be affected are those of our members. The vendors who will not trade in cities are our members and big businesses will suffer, and this will affect the labour force we represent.

“But dialogue will safeguard our members from harm, death and other losses which may be caused by confrontation.”

There is no denying that Zanu PF’s response to MDC A’s mass protests will be to use brute force to end the protests. As for the coming elections, Mnangagwa will be aware the people are desperate for change, so desperate they will be going the extra mile to get change.

Zanu PF has no choice but to be prepared to go into overdrive with its blatant cheating and wanton violence as happened in the 2008 elections. The party has already called on the war veterans to mobilise and cabinet has just approved the recruitment and training of the party’s “green bombers” youth militia. The two groups played a key role in the intimidation, beating, rape and destruction of property in the 2008 wanton violence.

This time, Zanu PF will be deploying its trusted foot soldiers months ahead of the elections so they can do their dirty work and be done and dusted well ahead of the arrival of the elections observers, a month or so before voting day. Any violence with observers on the ground will be limited to the subtle reminder of the punishment that will be meted out if the party lose the election.

As for the blatant cheating Zanu PF will resist all pressure to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop the party rigging the elections. Both Nelson Chamisa and Douglas Mwonzora know this and hence the reason neither of them has dared provoke Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies to implement the reforms.

Indeed, it was the fear of provoking Zanu PF that stopped MDC leaders implementing even one reform in the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders into power on the understanding the party will bring about the democratic changes necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. It is totally unforgivable that MDC leaders have failed to bring about even one democratic change offering one feeble excuse after another for doing nothing about implementing the reforms.

Worse still, MDC leaders have participating in flawed and illegal elections giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. So instead of MDC leaders bringing about democratic change they are the ones helping to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship. MDC leaders are now the albatross round the nation’s neck stopping the democratic changes the nation has been dying for!

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the country has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF regime that has rigged elections to stay in power. MDC leaders have wasted many golden opportunities to implement the reforms and end the dictatorship. Implementing the reforms would have upset Zanu PF and so the MDC leaders sort the easy route of doing nothing about the reforms to appease it.

Today, with the nation in a perilous situation, with basic services such as education and health care collapsed and 50% of our people now living in abject poverty; with the nation’s very survival on line; it is imperative that we finally bite the bullet and demand democratic change over appeasement of Zanu PF thugs.

Zimbabweans must demand the implementation of the reforms following by the holding of free, fair and credible elections. If the next elections go ahead with no reforms implemented, then the plebiscite must be declared null and void. Enough of this nonsense of rigged elections and turning a blind eye to it all to appease Zanu PF!

Armed Criminals Masquerading As Soldiers, Police On The Prowl

By A Correspondent- Armed criminals masquerading as soldiers and police officers are on the prowl across the country where they are carrying out well-co-ordinated armed robberies.

In a statement yesterday, Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore said the criminals brandished “search warrants” purported to bear the signature of the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Valerio Sibanda.

“The Zimbabwe National Army would like to alert members of the public that a gang of armed robbers is on the prowl in Mashonaland West province,” Makotore said.

“The robbers are using the names of the ZNA and ZRP [Zimbabwe Republic Police] to dupe unsuspecting victims of their valuable property. They gain access into private premises upon production of fake search warrants.”

He added: “The fake warrants are purportedly signed by the Commander Defence Forces claiming the bearer has authority to search premises or individuals and seize any articles which may lead to acts of terrorism.

“Unsuspecting members of the public have resultantly been robbed and there have been a number of reports of such robberies through the use of such fake search warrants in Chegutu, Kadoma, Chinhoyi, Christon Bank and Mazowe.”

National Youth Service Re-establishment: Mnangagwa Laying Ground For Violence In 2023 Elections

Mpilo Resumes Radiotherapy Services

Mpilo hospital

By A Correspondent- Mpilo Central Hospital has resumed radiotherapy services following the Government’s intervention which resulted in the deployment of a physicist.

The machines broke down on 15 August last year and were fixed last month but could not be run as the hospital had no physicist.

As a result, cancer patients from the Southern region had to travel to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare, the only other hospital that offers cancer treatment in the country.

Mpilo acting chief executive Solwayo Ngwenya expressed gratitude to the Government for ensuring that the service resumes.

He said:

We are very happy that the machines have finally been fixed and we have a physicist who was seconded by the Ministry of Health and Child Care to help administer the treatment.

We are particularly grateful that all the work which has been done so far was facilitated by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga during his last visit.

Head of the radiotherapy department Dr Tatenda Chingonzoh revealed that about 120 patients had been on the waiting list last year when the machine broke down.

Said Chingonzoh:

We are happy that finally, we will resume offering radiotherapy at Mpilo although we are in need of a physicist.

The one we have is temporary and then the day he goes we will be forced to suspend the services as this type of treatment needs highly qualified personnel.

MDC Alliance Councillors Snubbed

By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance and MDCT councillors in Beitbridge have raised concern over their exclusion from government programmes, especially when Cabinet ministers are visiting the border town.

The opposition councillors were not included on a scheduled tour of the border town by National Housing minister Daniel Garwe and Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs minister Abednico Ncube on Friday to access civil servants’ living conditions

“Why should they politicise a government programme? Excluding the Beitbridge mayor and his team in events happening in the areas of their jurisdiction is a clear sign of politicising government programmes,” ward 3 councillor Takavingei Mahachi said.

“This project is being implemented within the Municipality of Beitbridge and the mayor should be recognised. Government programmes should not be politicised.

“This system of politicising everything has killed our country. Whoever drafted this programme must stop it.”

Recalled ward 4 councillor Granger Nyoni said it was likely that government wanted another huge piece of land in Beitbridge before finishing the construction of the flats and houses which it started in 2006.

Garwe and Ncube are expected to tour an area set aside for development of 400 housing units for civil servants in the border town.

A medical doctor dispatched to the border town recently lives in a COVID-19 quarantine area, while another one lives in a sub-standard rented house.

Dozens of nurses share rooms in old, poorly-ventilated nurses’ homes, while others live in side wards at their workplace.

One junior civil servant owns two houses while a regional magistrate, two provincial magistrates, an area prosecutor and several policemen and prison officials do not have accommodation.

Garwe and Ncube’s visit to Beitbridge is also expected to speed up the completion of six metres of a sewer line that has stalled the allocation of 26 civil servants’ houses that have been lying idle for the past 10 years.-Newsday

Man Nabbed For The Murder Of A Byo Newspaper Vendor

By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo have arrested the man behind the murder of a city newspaper vendor last week. Jongumuzi Lobati (age not given) of Woodville assaulted the now deceased Farai Mazhindu of Luveve suburb with fists after a misunderstanding along Matshona Road in Old Luveve.

The deceased fell headlong on the tarred road and died on the spot.

To conceal the vice, Lobati dragged the deceased’s body to a nearby bush and fled from the scene. The body of the late Mazhindu, popularly known as Dread or Rasta, was later discovered the following day at a nearby bush along Matshona road with a swollen head and bruises on the left side of its forehead.

On the day the accused was arrested, he was found dressed in blood-stained clothes which linked him to the alleged heinous act.

Lobati has made positive indications at the crime scene with detectives from CID Homicide (Bulawayo). He pleaded guilty to one count of murder before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Rachel Mukanga who remanded him in custody to April 27.

Prosecuting, Mr Terence Chakabuda said on April 6 at around 11PM along Matshona Road in Old Luveve, Lobati and the deceased had a misunderstanding after a beer drink.

“On April 7 the now deceased’s body was found at a nearby bush along Matshona road in Old Luveve with a swollen head and bruises on the left side of its forehead. Three days later, Lobati was arrested and stated that he had severely assaulted Mazhindu with clenched fists and he fell down with his head and died on the spot. He dragged the body of the deceased and hid it in a nearby bush before fleeing from the scene,” said Mr Chakabuda.

There are four key State witnesses who saw Lobati and the deceased having a heated argument at the crime scene. The late newspaper vendor used to operate at corner 6th Avenue and Robert Mugabe.-statemedia

“The Return Of Green Bombers”

By Leonard Koni- The re-introduction of the National Youth Service Training Border Gezi popularly known as The Green Bombers has sent chilling feelings amongst most Zimbabweans who have experienced the brutality of this militia group in 2008.

This is a sign of government failure to create employment for the youths in the country. Zimbabwe is now gearing itself into a fully fledged military country.

There is bad news again. We know that elections are around the corner and the innocent youths want to be used to beat up and threaten people. The programme is not well cooked and these youths want to be dragged to do dirty work for selfish maggots.

Was it really the idea of Kirsty Coventry to re-introduce this militia group which unleashed terror during the 2008 elections under the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe or she is being used as a shield by Zanu PF political big wigs?

If the government is very serious about this programme , then we must first see Zanu PF leaders sending their children at Border Gezi Training School just like the way they are getting these corona vaccines jabs.

The government of Zimbabwe does not have the capacity to run such a national programme when it is still struggling to run some of these programmes to do with development.

At such times like this, such useless programmes must be shelved. They have a history of causing divisions and harm in the past. So what is the difference between the old dispensation of Mugabe?

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is running of of ideas and is just copying and pasting Mugabe’s toxic policies and there is nothing new being introduced to the country.

While a lot of countries have successfully run those programmes, Zimbabwe has a record of bastardising the concept by producing brainwashed desperate poor youths who cannot put food on the table because they are jobless and end up joining such programmes just to get a meal to survive.

This program was responsible for thousands of deaths and violent acts on members of he opposition.

Indoctrinating and weaponising the youths will not solve the current economic challenges being faced by the country.

Sanctions For Kirsty Coventry for Reintroducing Terror Group, Border Gezi

By Farai D Hove | A Harare Councilor has a written advising that the Minister Of Youth, Sport And Recreation, Kirsty Coventry must be put on sanctions to discourage or stop her from introducing the terror group, famously known as Border Gezi.

The Border Gezi formation, disguised under National Youth Service, has for over 20-years been responsible for mass torture and summary killings since the year 2001.

Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition Denounces Zanu PF’s Move To Amend Constitution

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition is concerned by the wanton disregard of the people’s will by the ruling party, Zanu PF which has embarked on a campaign to amend the constitution, adopted in 2013, before its full implementation.

On April 6, 2021, the Constitutional Amendment Bill (Number 1) passed through the Senate after it was submitted for the second time.

The Bill, through amendments to Section 180 of the constitution, gives the President powers to appoint the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and the Judge President in consultation with the Judicial Service Commission.

In essence, the Bill erodes the previous constitutional provision to subject the process of appointments of the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and the Judge President to public scrutiny and interviews.

The Bill essentially gives the President the discretion to choose his preferred candidates for appointment.

This works against judicial independence and goes against the principles of rule of law, separation of powers and transparency in government processes.

The Bill is thus an attempt to consolidate authoritarian rule through judicial capture and therefore merely seeks to serve the interests of ruling party politicians at the expense of the will of the majority who voted for the constitution in 2013.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition stands firmly against constitutional amendments before full implementation of the constitution adopted in 2013. Amending the constitution before implementation amounts to amputation.

The constitutional amendments are a real threat to civic and political rights and are part of machinations by the ruling party, Zanu PF to create a one party state in which they have sole authority to determine the governance of the country.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition is disturbed by the fact that through constitutional amendments, ruling party officials have exhibited a tendency to retain political power at the expense of the will of the people.

We implore the government to abide by the tenets of constitutional democracy and uphold the will of the people. Respect for the constitution is a fundamental pillar of a democratic society.

We further implore the ruling party, Zanu PF to desist from abusing its parliamentary majority to amend the constitution against the will of the people who voted overwhelmingly for the adoption of the constitution in 2013.

Kazembe Kazembe, Matanga In Soup Over Shooting Victim

By A Correspondent- A Bulawayo family has filed a US$436 000 lawsuit against Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe, police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and their subordinates following the fatal shooting of a family member by law enforcement agents in May last year.

In summons filed recently at the Bulawayo High Court, family lawyer Josephat Tshuma accused the police of fatally shooting Paul Munakopa on May 23 last year.

Munakopa was allegedly shot several times by police officers who were travelling in an unmarked vehicle and later succumbed to the injuries.

The family wants Kazembe, Matanga and the police officers, namely Digson Nyoni, Langton Makonye and two civilians Ross Johnson and Kyle Bennet, to pay damages amounting to US$436 000 for loss of support and for emotional shock and trauma arising from the incident.

The damages were broken down as US$346 000 for loss of support, US$50 000 for wrongful death of Munakopa and US$2 735 for funeral and related expenses.

Police are yet to respond to the court application.

Over 13k Border Nabbed At Beitbridge Border Post

By A Correspondent- A combined security forces blitz at Beitbridge Border Post has led to the arrest of 13 288 suspected border jumpers and smugglers between January and to date.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests yesterday, saying most of the suspects were involved in the smuggling of goods from South Africa.

We have a stakeholder approach and the points where you find officers are the ones agreed on by all parties. We have so far arrested 13 288 people who committed offences related to border activities that include smuggling and illegal border jumping,” he said.

In January this year, government deployed 405 security officers selected to take over border security points that were deemed porous and costing the State of revenue.

The officers manning the border are from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Police Support Unit, special army units and the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

Teachers Forced To Pay Forex Rentals

By A Correspondent- Scores of teachers at Eagle Tanning Primary and Secondary schools in rural Marondera are stranded after an indigenous farmer recently ordered them to pay rentals in foreign currency.

The farmer, identified as Godfrey Gonese, allegedly backdated the US dollar rentals to January this year.

In a letter of demand dated March 23 shown to NewsDay, Gonese’s company Lowveld Leather Products, which owns the farm is demanding US$60 per month for a six-roomed house.

Affected teachers at the learning institution told this publication that they could not afford to pay the rentals because their paltry salaries are paid in local currency.

Teachers currently earn between $14 000 and $19 000.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Mashonaland East provincial co-odinator Tapiwa Chengeta confirmed the development yesterday, adding that all schools belonged to government, hence the teachers should not pay the rentals.

“Last week, we visited the school after hearing that Lowveld Leather Products, whose farm accommodates the school, is now demanding rentals from teachers. It is unfortunate that some people can come from nowhere and claim that government property is theirs. Schools are owned by the State, it is government that provides accommodation to these teachers. We do not tolerate such demands and we will fight until the teachers’ concerns are dealt with,” he said.

Eagle Tanning primary and secondary schools were established in 1979 by Belmont Leather to cater for employees’ children as well as those from nearby communities.

The schools were handed over to government in 1981 through the Marondera Rural District Council.

The farm and factory were taken over by indigenous businesspeople in 1987, who then leased the shoe-making factory to an Italian investor.

The primary school has an enrolment of 652 pupils and 19 teachers, while a total of 546 students are enrolled at the secondary school. The catchment area of the school extends to Marondera town.

Efforts to get a comment from Mashonaland East provincial education director Annatoria Ncube were fruitless as she had not responded to questions sent to her by the time of going to print.-newsday

Residents Fume Over Mayor’s Double Storey Mansion

By A Correspondent- Bulawayo United Residents Association (Bura) has rapped the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) for allocating a double-storey mansion to mayor Solomon Mguni in North End suburb.

Mguni, who currently resides in the high-density suburb of Nkulumane, will now relocate to North End low-density suburb.

The residents felt that by relocating from Nkulumane, Mguni would not keep abreast with the suffering of ordinary residents.

When he was given a mayoral mansion, Mguni was also given tight security after a break-in a few months ago at his Nkulumane residence.

Bura chairperson Winos Dube said mayors were ordinary persons like everybody and, therefore, they could not be treated like superior beings.

“A few months ago, mayor Mguni was given a piece of land at Rangemore at a minimum cost. He who pays the piper dictates the tune. The senior council officials are covering for each other for their own benefit. This is, indeed, horrible,” Dube said.

“The double-storey mansion is a rental house and its bills were supposed to be assisting in the payment of council debts for electricity and the construction of roads,” he said.

Dube said Local Government minister July Moyo should enforce discipline at the BCC and deal with concerns emanating from the conduct of the city fathers of late.

Initially, council had resolved to pamper the mayor with a mansion located in the Hornung Golf Club area in the leafy suburb of Burnside.

The council contends that the mayor, who is the councillor for ward 23, must have secure accommodation following a series of break-ins at his house.

Two months ago, thieves also broke into Mguni’s car at his home in Nkulumane and stole cash, among other valuables.

According to a council confidential report, after the mayor’s car was broken into, the local authority decided to move him to secure accommodation.

The report said the fear was that Mguni could be attacked by disgruntled residents.

“The person of the mayor might be a target of attacks by virtue of the office he occupies. Besides everyday thuggery, the mayor might be targeted for attacks by disgruntled stakeholders for the reason that he is the council’s figurehead. Such attacks might have perilous results,” part of the report read.

“Council owns a certain property at Hornung Golf Club and it is currently leased to a tenant. The town clerk (Christopher Dube) considered it prudent that this be transformed into mayoral accommodation and that council provides security to guard the property and the occupants.”-newsday

Mwonzora Nominates Replacement For Recalled Biti

MDC-T which is led by Douglas Mwonzora has nominated Gweru Urban legislator Brian Dube to be the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament following the recalling of Harare East legislator Tendai Biti a few weeks ago by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Parliament’s unwritten tradition, the Public Accounts Portfolio Committee is chaired by a legislator from the opposition.

The committee has been involved in unearthing acts of corruption that have happened in various state-owned entities especially on issues of procurement.

According to Biti, the committee was finalising its reports that were going to expose corruption that happen in ZESA, Command Agriculture, RBZ and ZINARA.

It will however remain to be seen if the legislators will be up to the task in bringing hard to crack people such as Kuda Tagwirei to Parliament to give oral evidence on various issues.

Making the announcement, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said the nomination was made by MDC-T.

“I also have to inform the House that the MDC-T Party has nominated Honourable Brian Dube to serve as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee,” he said.

“Employ All Qualified Jobless Teachers”: ED

By A Correspondent- The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education requires at least 40 000 more teachers to address the critical manpower deficit in the education sector with science subjects and early childhood development (ECD) classes being the worst affected in terms of staff complement.

President Mnangagwa has directed that all qualified, but jobless teachers be employed. This was to enable schools to run smaller classes in line with Covid-19 mitigatory measures, and the jobless staff is estimated to be more than 15 000.

In January, the Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe said the commission was processing requests from ministries for the recruitment of more workers to fill vacant posts in the civil service.

This was after Ministries, particularly the Ministry of Education, had requested recruitment of more teachers. At least 12 000 teachers have been recruited in the two years as part of efforts by Government to address manpower shortage in the sector.

In an interview, Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister Edgar Moyo said the figures were revised upwards following the need to reduce the number of learners in a classroom in compliance with health protocols of social distancing to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

“With current enrolment rate, we need more teachers to address the issue of deficit. We have employed about 12 000 teachers over the last two years, and now we are talking of 40 000 more that we require,” he said.

“This number has been revised upwards as a result of the need for social distancing in schools hence lower numbers in class and more teachers to take care of all pupils. The recruitment of teachers so that we have sufficient establishment is an ongoing exercise.”

Deputy Minister Moyo said they have since made a request to the Treasury for the recruitment of teachers. He, however, said the number of teachers to be recruited would depend on the availability of resources.

“The need for more teachers has been identified, but it is not just the need to recruit teachers without capacity. It is therefore important to note that our resource envelope can’t carry all that load at once otherwise we will have a serious economic shock,” he said.

“We have submitted our request to the Treasury and as resources become available, Treasury is going to be giving us what we require.”

Deputy Minister Moyo said the shortage of teachers for science and ECD classes was affecting the quality of education and its output.

“We need science teachers since we have introduced science, technology and innovation. We have enough teachers for arts. Appropriately qualified teachers are in short supply and when we talk of shortage of teachers we will be looking at those dynamics.,” he said.

Deputy Minister Moyo said since the syllabus of the ECD can now feed into the whole curriculum of the primary sector, more teachers trained in ECD are required in schools.

“In the primary sector we have a new module, which is ECD module, which used to be housed outside the school system. However, with the implementation of the Nziramasanga Commission on education and training, which was commissioned in 1999, the ECD module is now part of the school system,” he said.

“Our constitution recognises 14 indigenous languages and yet we don’t have enough teachers trained in those languages to teach at ECD level. Children should be taught in their mother tongue to build a strong foundation for their learning, but sadly we still have a huge deficit of teachers in the ECD module.”

Deputy Minister Moyo said while his Ministry fully supports the need for teachers to be remunerated sufficiently to ensure delivery of quality education to the nation, equally there is also need for them to also look at Government’s capacity to meet their demands.-statemedia

Tichaona Chiminya And Talent Mabika Remembered

By A Correspondent | The MDC Alliance party took time to remember two if its heroes, Talent Mabika and Tichaona Chimonya who were petrol bombed on the 14th April 2000.

The two became the party’s first heroes, barely a year after it’s launching back in 1999.

The party posted the below message:

Covid-19 Vaccination: Transparency Critical

10th Edition

A Chinese official is said to have announced that the Sinopharm vaccine has lower efficacy than originally suggested in media reports. This will not be the first time a vaccine has been shown to have low efficacy. We watched the Republic of South Africa switching from Astra Zeneca vaccine to Johnson and Johnson on the basis of low efficacy. We also saw most of Europe halting, albeit temporarily, the use of the Astra Zeneca vaccine on the basis of perceived adverse events following immunization. This is sound pharmaco-vigilance from governments that have nothing to hide from citizens. Initial reports said Sinopharm vaccine had an efficacy of roughly 79-86%. Now the owners of the vaccine say efficacy is lower than that. What should Zimbabwe do?

This is time to act on available home brewed data. We have already vaccinated over 205 275 people since 18th February. What preliminary results do we have on safety and efficacy? The government needs to make an urgent decision based on data as to whether to continue using the two Chinese vaccines or to switch to something else. We now know that 95% of our covid19 is the South African variant. Could efficacy here be even lower than in China? Only live data collected here can inform us correctly for decision and action.

Starting to vaccinate the population with whatever vaccine available was a good thing. Continuing to use a vaccine with proven low efficacy would be a disaster and a total waste of tax payer’s money. But we must measure the efficacy in our own population. We note curiously that the Sinopharm/Sinovac vaccines are still not on the WHO list of approved vaccines. Decision has once again been postponed to end of April.

Here is the most important advice to government: Travel this journey with the people. Alone you may think you’re going fast, but indeed together we will go far. Transparency in all matters pertaining to procurement decisions, safety, & efficacy of the vaccines has no substitute if we are to have a successful covid19 prevention program. All covid19 vaccines are on trial. The people must report their experiences and the population must be kept informed. We have already requested weekly reports on adverse events following immunization in the SitRep.That way we can help the Chinese in their vaccine development process.

By A Correspondent| Former Chipinge South legislator Wilson Tarugarira Khumbula who joined Zanu PF party in 2017 and contested in the party primary elections was this week paraded as a new defector showing desperation by the ruling to perpetuate a narrative.

Kumbula who was the President of ZANU Ndonga before he moved to the ruling party was paraded among opposition supporters from Manicaland who defected including MDC Alliance’s Patrick Chitaka, Samson Sithole and Crosswell Takawira Mugombi from the National Patriotic Front (NPF).

However sources in Chipinge confirmed that Kumbula famously known as Kujokochera was among candidates who contested in the Zanu PF primary elections seeking to represent Chipinge South in the 2018 parliamentary elections.

Kumbula eventually lost to the incumbent Enock Porusingazi who won the seat beating MDC Alliance’s Clifford Hlatywayo and Jerry Moyana of MDC-T.

“Kumbula was recruited into the party by war veterans who wanted his financial muscle to wrestle the seat from Porusingazi whom they did not like, we are surprised by reports that he is said to have defected now when he was even approved to participate in primary elections,” said the source.

Zanu PF has been on an overdrive, poaching opposition supporters with notable names who have crossed the floor being MDC Alliance deputy treasurer Lilian Timveos, former Kwekwe central legislator Blessing Chebundo and Obert Gutu among others.

Rusape Magistrate Orders Govt To Compensate Dog Bite Victim

By A Correspondent| A Zimbabwe court has ordered a police officer and his bosses to pay RTGS$150 000 to a 40 year-old man as compensation for damages suffered after he was mauled by a dog set upon him by a law enforcement agent.

Rusape Magistrate Rufaro Mangwiro recently ordered Constable Zwelibanzi Masuko, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe to compensate Unity Saunyama, a resident of Rusape in Manicaland province after he sued them for damages arising from injuries which he sustained from being attacked by a police dog.

The 40-year-old Saunyama was assisted by Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to sue Masuko, Matanga and Kazembe for RTGS$248 755 after Masuko released a police dog in public which mauled Saunyama.

During trial, Tavagadza told Magistrate Mangwiro that Constable Masuko approached Saunyama at a beer hall in Rusape in Manicaland province on 29 August 2019 and made an inquiry about his personal details to which Saunyama obliged. Constable Masuko proceeded to drag Saunyama out of the beer hall and thereafter made shocking allegations to the effect that the 40 year-old man was in possession of marijuana.

In response, Saunyama advised Constable Masuko to conduct a body search on him. However, instead of conducting a body search, Constable Masuko set his police dog on him and he sustained injuries which include two deep lacerations on his right ankle and a deep wound on his right thigh as a result of several dog bites.

Afterwards, Tavagadza said, Constable Masuko then proceeded to drag Saunyama around the central business district as he wanted members of the public to see what police officers are capable of doing.

During this act, some members of the public pleaded with Constable Masuko to take Saunyama to a hospital as he was badly injured and needed medical attention but these pleas were not entertained.

During trial, Masuko, Matanga and Kazembe, who did not dispute that there was harm suffered by Saunyama, which entitles him to make a claim against them and had argued that the claim made against them was excessive, made a counter offer of RTGS$10 000.

Magistrate Mangwiro ruled that Saunyama suffered undue harm and deserved to be paid RTGS$150 000 in compensation as a result of the negligence of Constable Masuko. Magistrate Mangwiro stated that Saunyama was justified to seek compensation from Constable Masuko, Matanga and Kazembe as he had been subjected to shock, discomfort, mental suffering, loss of life’s amenities and disability.

Canaan Banana’s Son Arrested, Convicted Of Sex Attack In UK

The former president of Zimbabwe Canaan Banana’s son, Martin, 49, admitted engaging in sexual activity with a female with a mental disorder impeding choice.

Martin from Liverpool initially denied the offence but later pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a female with a mental disorder, Liverpool ECHO reports.

Although the girl was over 16, the age of consent, it is a criminal offence for a care worker to engage in sexual activity with a patient who has a mental health disorder affecting choice.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Banana, of Silvester Street, Vauxhall, used his position as her support worker to take advantage of her – telling her he liked her and that she “looked like an angel”.

The two exchanged messages about their relationship and matters came to a head in when Banana approached his victim in the hospital, hugged her, and kissed her on the lips using tongues.

A sentencing hearing today was told the victim reported the incident to the hospital and Banana’s employment was subsequently terminated.

Judge Daniel Williams, sentencing, said: “She was extremely vulnerable and had an emotionally unstable personality disorder as a result of a traumatic background.

“The offence was committed in a place where there’s a particular need for safety, where our most vulnerable in society are looked after by a profession which is shamed by this sort of behaviour.”

He admitted the defendant had “fallen far off the trust placed in him” but was now volunteering with a foodbank as part of his church.

Banana was sentenced to a two-year community order and was ordered to carry out the Horizon sex offenders’ programme, complete 25 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement, and to pay court costs of £1,500.

He will be required to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Mwonzora Threatens To Recall Phugeni, Politics of Rancor.

Douglas Mwonzora
Douglas Mwonzora

By Muzi Ncube | Reliable sources have revealed that MDC-T ‘President’ Douglas Mwonzora has hatcheted a plan to recall Senator Khaliphani Phugeni from the Upper House of Parliament.

We all wonder why Mwonzora is obsessed and intimidatated by the eloquent Senator Phugeni, when infact, Mwonzora has his full communication team like Witness Dube who hardly witnesses anything himself, and Lloyd Damba.

A senior member of the party revealed that the Standing Committee has been instructed by Mwonzora to table a motion at its next meeting to rubber stamp the move to oust the outspoken former Party Spokesman for reasons that have not been made clear to the Standing Committee.

The threat to recall Phugeni comes hot at the hills of yet another threat to expel leaders of the party’s USA Province namely it’s Chairman Den Moyo, Secretary Andrew Chaponda and Organizing Secretary Muzi Ncube. The US trio have been targeted for their insistence that the party should adhere to its constitution and have raised concerns about constitutional violations that include the shambolic Dec 27, 2020 extraordinary congress, unconstitutional appointments to the standing committee, misappropriation of $6M party funds by Mwonzora.

The purging and bloodletting we are seeing in the party is the opposite of the politics of rational disputation and tolerance that Mwonora has been advocating of late, said the source who did not want to be named for fear of being targeted by the bloodthirsty Mwonzora who seems to be drunk on power.

Maybe the rational disputation and tolerance is a preserve for his new found friends at Zanu PF. It is no public secret that Mwonzora recently voted in line with Zanu PF at the Senate to pass a bill that gives Emmerson Mnangagwa unfettered judiciary powers to handpick justices of his choice to the Supreme Court, thereby completely decimating the separation of powers between the three powers of government, the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature.

Not only has Mwonzora destroyed democracy within the MDC-T, he is determined to destroy democracy in the country, so much for Mwonzoras’ “politics of rational disputation.”??‍♂️

Zanu PF Fakes The Number Of Alleged MDC Defectors

By James Gwati- Zanu PF is inflating the number of alleged opposition party members who are said to be defecting to the ruling regime.

This came out in Kwekwe where Midlands provincial Zanu PF leadership was having a meeting to celebrate those whom they said had joined the party from MDC.

NewsDay was at the event and reported that although Zanu PF alleged that 150 MDC Alliance youths had defected to Zanu PF, surprisingly, only three surrendered their opposition party cards and regalia, with the majority of the alleged defectors turning out to be touts who were commandeered to join the ruling party so that they could operate freely.

“Mdc Will Be Albatross Round Nation’s Neck” Predicted US Ambassador – We Can Sink Or Finally Cut Free

By Nomusa Garikai | It was America’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell who pointed out just how incompetent MDC leaders are and how they can be a burden, not an asset, to the nation.

– SOURCE: zsdemocrats.blogspot.com

51 Year Old Chitungwiza Man Up For Molesting Five Minors

By James Gwati-Police in Chitungwiza have arrested a 51-year-old man for reportedly molesting five minors whom he also ordered to fondle his manhood.

Allegations are that the man would invite the minors aged three, five and nine and two who are aged 10 years to his room where he would ask them to lower their pants and dance for him.

After the dance, reports are that he would order the minors to fondle his manhood.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said investigations into the matter are underway.

“On April 11, 2021 a report of indecent assault was received at ZRP Chitungwiza, to the effect that five minors (3; 5; 9; 10; 10) were molested by a neighbour (52).

“The suspect invited the minors to his room and asked them to lower their pants and dance for him (seunononga dance) and ordered them to fondle his sex organs. Investigations are underway,” he said.

Dembare Suspends Mzadzi For Demanding Salary, Gives Him US$3

By James Gwati-Dynamos Football club has suspended their goalkeepers’ training coach Gift Muzadzi for demanding his salary before giving him US$3 for transport.

H-Metro Sport gathered Muzadzi was suspended by the executive on Monday after he protested over unpaid salaries.

“He (Muzadzi) was served with a suspension letter today (Monday). He is accused of saying bad stuff about the executive to the board.

“He also confronted the executive about money since they haven’t received their March salaries, so they gave him $3 for transport and he complained that it was not enough.

“So that’s where the issue is coming from, they said he wasn’t supposed to question them. That’s their main reason for the suspension,” said a close source.

Grandpa Hangs Self After Killing Lover

A 75-year-old man from the Whunga area in Beitbridge West went berserk and hacked his live in girlified (57) to death with a machete and an axe following an argument.

Sitoboli Maluko killed Violet Ncube as his 16-year-old stepson watched in shock on Monday last week.

After committing the gruesome murder, Maluko hanged himself on a tree near the crime scene.

The police officer commanding Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirmed the incident yesterday and that the couple’s bodies were taken to the Beitbridge District Mortuary pending post-mortem.

He said initial investigations revealed that Maluko and Ncube started cohabiting at the woman’s homestead as husband and wife in January this year.

“So far, we have established that on April 5 at around midnight, Ncube and Maluko had a heated argument over an unknown matter in their bedroom,” said Chief Supt Nyongo.

“On the same date at around 0930 hours, Maluko and Ncube along with his stepson (16) drove their donkey-drawn cart to Sebasa Irrigation Scheme. The accused person had a machete and an axe in the scotch cart.”

He said along the way when they had travelled for about 5km from their homestead, Maluko suddenly attacked Ncube with a machete and she started running away.

Chief Supt Nyongo said the man followed in hot pursuit and struck the woman on the right knee and she fell down.

He said Maluko chopped off Ncube’s left palm inflicting a deep cut on the right wrist, before striking her on the right side of the neck with an axe.

“After realising she was motionless, he collected his axe and machete from the crime scene. He went on to hang himself from a nearby tree,” said Chief Supt Nyongo.- Chronicle

Uhuru Cup: Major Boost For Bosso As Peter Muduhwa Returns …

HIGHLANDERS’ preparations for the 41st Independence Cup match against fierce rivals Dynamos received a major boost following the arrival of rock-solid defender Peter Muduhwa following an unsuccessful loan stint with Tanzanian champions Simba SC.

Dynamos and Highlanders will renew their rivalry in the Uhuru Cup game on Sunday at the National Sports Stadium, as the major highlight of Zimbabwe’s 41st independence anniversary.

Both teams are set to face off with rusty players following a long-layoff due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and only after less than a week’s training.

Both sides have beefed up their squads, but it is the return of Muduhwa that gives Highlanders some aura of belief, as the dependable defender had been training extensively in Tanzania since February, making him fitter than most of his teammates.

The defender had his six-month loan spell with Simba SC terminated after three months before he played competitively.

On his return, Muduhwa immediately got down to business, undergoing Covid-19 and medical tests with his Bosso teammates yesterday morning.

“We are not taking chances. As we continue with our pre-season preparations, the players are going through medical tests. Football is coming back,” wrote Bosso on their official social media pages.

New signings, midfielder Winston Mhango and striker Lynnoth Chikuhwa also underwent tests yesterday.

But it’s the return of the 27-year-old Muduhwa, who can also play as a right-back or defensive midfielder, which gives Bosso a boost ahead of the weekend Independence Cup.- Chronicle

Green Bombers Bounce Back…

Cabinet yesterday approved the re-establishment of the National Youth Training Programme after it was suspended in 2018.

The approval followed proposals presented to Cabinet by the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry after consultations between her ministry and that of Defence and War Veterans Affairs.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa said the programme was an important youth development initiative crucial in nurturing young people into becoming responsible and resilient citizens with a clear sense of national identity and respect for national values.

The programme was also a key strategy for youth empowerment in national, regional, continental and international development guiding frameworks to which Zimbabwe was a member.

These included the Sadc Revised Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan; the African Youth Charter of 2006; the World Programme of Action on Youth and the United Nations Youth Strategy 2030.

“The programme is designed to equip youths, who comprise persons between the ages of 18 and 35 years with patriotism, discipline, volunteerism, survival skills, hard work, loyalty, tolerance, resilience, determination and honesty.

“During training, the youths will be encouraged to participate in development projects and disaster response activities and thereby assist in enhancing national capacity to manage disasters,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

She added that country’s Constitution required all institutions and agencies of Government to ensure that youths had access to appropriate education and training, that they participate in social, economic and other spheres of life, and that they are empowered and protected from harmful practices, exploitation and abuse.

Under the revamped programme, Vocational Training Centres across all the provinces will focus on entrepreneurship and livelihood skills training encompassing enterprise awareness, opportunity identification, project financing, and basic farming.

The Civil Protection Unit will place emphasis on disaster mitigation and management skills.

“The roll-out of the National Youth Service Programme will involve community attachment of youths for work experience and service to various Government departments and local authorities,” she said.

“Graduates of the programme will qualify for further training, assistance in starting businesses, and for enrolment for careers in the police, the army, the airforce, nursing and teaching, among others.

The programme will also take on board the disabled and maintain gender balance and fair regional representation, with recruitment taking place through District Offices.”

The programme will be funded by Government upon enactment of the necessary law, but will also be mandated to generate its own income through engagement in commercial activities.

The youths will not pay fees but will be provided with uniforms, training kits and travel expenses and will be accorded allowances dependent on availability of funds.

The National Youth Service was first introduced in 2000 as a brainchild of the late national hero and former Youth Development, Gender and Employment Creation Minister, Border Gezi.- State media

South Africa Suspends Administration Of Johnson And Johnson Vaccine

13 April 2021

We have noted the decision taken by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States of America to advise the temporary suspension of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine rollout in the US.

This has occurred due to reports 6 females who developed unusual blood clots with low platelets. These Incidents occurred between 6 and 13 days after vaccination in women between the ages of 18 and 48 years old. It must be noted that over 6.6 million citizens have been inoculated with Johnson and Johnson vaccine in the U.S

In South Africa. we have not had any reports of clots that have formed after vaccination, and this is after having inoculated 288 787 health care workers under the Sisonke Protocol.

Having said that, after this advisory came to my attention, I held urgent consultations with our scientists, who have advised we cannot take the decision made by the FDA lightly. Based on their advice, we have determined to voluntarily suspend our rollout until the causal relationship between the development of clots and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is sufficiently interrogated. SAHPRA will collate Information from Johnson and Johnson. the FDA and other regulatory bodies to make a thorough assessment of the situation and advise us as a regulatory body that jas exercised its authoritative powers on the approval of the vaccine in their own right.

I humbly call for calm and patience as we ensure that we continue to be properly guided by science in ensuring the safety of our people as we rollout the vaccine campaign.

We hope that the deliberations will only take a few days. Given the preliminary literature on hand, our scientists are confident that the FDA’s decision is on a precautionary basis and we expect that this will not result in h the complete withdrawal of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the vaccination armament.

We also want to assure citizens that these kinds of reports are expected to emerge as part of a robust post-market surveillance system. This should provide comfort that medical authorities keep a vigilant watch on all new products that are deployed into the market to ensure they remain safe and effective for human consumption. it is for this reason that we implemented the Sisonke Protocol and will also implement a similar post market surveillance study for Pfizer when we roll out the first batch of doses to health cue workers.

I am glad to say, however, that there are good news in the midst of this development.

I am happy to announce that we have successfully negotiated for another 10 million doses from Pfizer and of these, we expect just under 2 million to be delivered in May. This therefore means we have secured 30 million doses of Pfizer vaccine for this financial year.

Why the Sounds of Nature Are So Good for Health and Well-Being

New data finds that even listening to recordings of nature can boost mood, decrease stress, and even lessen pain.

Mudede In Trouble

Tobaiwa-Mudede

FORMER Registrar-General (RG) Tobaiwa Mudede has been taken to the High Court for allegedly encroaching onto his neighbour, Roti Gadzika’s farm in Mazowe.
Gadzika claims in his court papers that Mudede had deprived him of access to at least 60 hectares of farmland at Ballineety Farm in Mazowe which they share, after the former RG, who was only allocated subdividion 1 of the farm, applied for more land from subdivisions 1 to 13, leaving only subdivision 14 for him. He said he had made a similar complaint to the Charles Utete-led Lands Commission.

“The disputed area contains some boreholes which I use to irrigate my crop. Mudede is denying me use of boreholes and electricity transformers in the disputed boundaries. He has threatened to evict some of my workers from the compound without notice or a court order.”

Gadzika said he had to seek the High Court’s intervention upon realisation that the Land Commission did not have statutory powers to direct Mudede to stop his unlawful activities.

“I, therefore, humbly pray for an order directing Mudede to refrain from fencing disputed boundaries, stopping him from denying me access to boreholes and electricity from transformers on the disputed boundary, stopping him from evicting my workers from the compound without notice and a court order,” submitted Gadzika.

Mudede is yet to respond to the application. -Newsday

Boarders To Remain At School During Independence Weekend.

Monica Mutsvangwa

As part of efforts to contain Covid-19 infections, boarders have to remain at school over the Independence weekend and gatherings for the 41st anniversary remain limited to 50, but the vaccination programme is being accelerated with a confirmed order of 600 000 doses being delivered soon and authorisation now given to buy another five million doses.

Cabinet yesterday ordered all boarders to remain at school to minimise social contact over the holiday weekend, just as was done over the Easter holidays.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said after yesterday’s Cabinet meeting: “Cabinet is advising citizens to maintain a high level of alertness and adhere to the preventive measures already in force. This includes during the impending 41st Independence Day anniversary when gatherings of more than 50 persons will also be prohibited.

n order to protect learners during the forthcoming holiday and avoid the Covid-19 infection spike as happened over the Christmas and New Year holidays, Cabinet has directed that all learners at boarding schools remain at their schools during the Independence holiday in order to avoid travel congestion and minimise chances of contracting the virus,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

“All school heads, without exception, are required to observe this directive, which is in the national interest.” Cabinet noted that due to the strong Covid-19 surveillance system, last week’s outbreak at Sacred Heart School in Umzingwane District of Matabeleland South Province was easily detected and dealt with. All 117 cases were mild and systems had been activated for contact tracing and strengthening of all standard operating procedures.

Cabinet approved the progress report on the procurement and roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines presented by Health and Child Care Minister Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

“Government is awaiting delivery of 600 000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines following completion of procurement processes. In addition, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development has granted authority to purchase five million more doses of vaccines,” she said.

Cabinet also advised that as of Monday, 234 709 people had received their first dose, while 29 304 had received their second dose.

“Steps are being taken to increase the number of people to be vaccinated across the provinces, particularly in hotspot areas in Matabeleland South, Mashonaland West, Harare and Manicaland Provinces.”

The printing of the new Covid-19 vaccination cards with security features is on course, and the World Health Organisation is working on a platform to store vaccination data for use internationally. This will mean that should travelling Zimbabweans need to be vaccinated to enter any country easily, that country will be able to access secure data, making the fake cards provided by criminals useless.

Minister Mutsvangwa also announced that radiotherapy services at Mpilo Central Hospital had resumed following the recent disruptions. On Friday last week VP Chiwenga said the Government would avail radiotherapy and chemotherapy services at the hospital for cancer patients.

“Following reports on the lack of radiotherapy services in the southern region, Cabinet is pleased to announce that the Mpilo Radiotherapy Centre is now functional. The centre will cover the Bulawayo, Matabelaland North, Masvingo, Midlands and Matabeleland South provinces,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

Following VP Chiwenga’s visit to Bulawayo last year, the Government released funds to fix the radiotherapy machines for cancer patients at Mpilo that had broken down because of overuse following the breakdown of machines at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

Currently, Mpilo and Parirenyatwa hospitals are the only specialised centres for radiotherapy treatment in Zimbabwe and both are now able to provide this service. Without radiation therapy, patients were being treated through chemotherapy, but chemotherapy might not be suitable for all cancer conditions. Herald

Pastor’s Son Killed At Church House…

THE late founder of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) of Portland Oregon, Reverend Morgan Sengwayo’s youngest son, Missiondom succumbed to injuries sustained following a brutal attack by thugs at a church house in Pelandaba suburb in Bulawayo.
Missiondom was the only surviving son of the late Rev Sengwayo who died in 1982.

He died on Sunday evening at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he had been on a weeklong life support following the attack.

The assault, which occurred a week ago, has left the Pelandaba community with more questions than answers amid strong suspicions by family members that the murder could be linked to a rivalry within the trouble-ridden church.

The church popularly known as Ivangeli, was founded by Missiondom’s father in 1955.

Family spokesperson Dr Rayban Sengwayo said Missiondom (46) was attacked by unknown suspects before the assailants left him lying unconscious in one of the rooms at the house.

He said he was discovered by a church member who had brought him food at his room.

“About a week ago, Missiondom was found at his house in Pelandaba with severe head injuries and bruises all over the body. He had been attacked the night before and left for dead and we took him to UBH where he had been in a coma since then,” he said.
Dr Sengwayo alleged that Missiondom was a victim of infighting in the church.

“We are not sure what happened but police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his killing. What we know is that there has been some long-standing rivalry between Missiondom and some church members aligned to a rival faction who didn’t want him to stay at the church house,” he said.

“There is a fight happening at the church resulting in splits. When Missiondom’s camp lost in court following a series of litigations, everyone was evicted from the church premises. We are saying, no matter what hatred in the church, I don’t think it was fair for Missiondom to be a victim of that anger.”

Dr Sengwayo said the rival faction failed to evict Missiondom since the house is still registered under his father’s name.

He said Missiondom’s wife died in Botswana recently. However, due to the closure of the country’s borders as part of Covid-19 regulations, he failed to travel to the neighbouring country for his wife’s funeral.

“Sadly, we were in the process of assisting Missiondom to renew his expired travel documents to facilitate his travel to Botswana so that he could see where his wife was buried,” said Dr Sengwayo- Chronicle

Mzadzi Suspended For Demanding His Salary

By James Gwati-Dynamos Football club has suspended their goalkeeper training coach Gift Muzadzi for demanding his unpaid dues.

Sangoma Arrested For ‘Treating’ Menstrual Patient With His Manhood

A SELF-STYLED witch doctor from Stoneridge in Harare has been arrested on rap_e charges and allegedly using his huge manhood to treat a woman who had mens_truation problems.

Byo Man’s Business Crumbles After Prophet Black Elisha ‘Locks’ His Daughters Private Parts

By Phil Jambaya| Controversial Bulawayo prophet Black Elisha, real name Mduduzi Dube is reported to have caused the business downfall of a local businessman after he locked his daughters private parts, using his spiritual padlock.

The businessman with interest in farming and transport is reported to have been using juju and owned a serpent which used to spiritually sleep with his two daughters to boost his business empire.

“Two ladies in their late mid 30s consulted me in fear. They claimed that they were having nightmares having sex with a scary serpent and they have been failing to bear children and continuously having miscarriages.  I then got into a serious spiritual session with them and I was shown that their father was the one who was using juju to boost his wealth empire.

I applied my spiritual padlock on them, the serpent which used to sleep and suck the girl’s potential was blocked of its evil deed, and this resulted in the fall of the father’s business empire. We have had many similar incidents where parents of relatives use juju on others for the evil betterment of their finances, this is not the first time I have had an encounter with such situations,” said the man of cloth.

The spiritual padlock has led many people consulting the Bulawayo based man of cloth, seeking divine intervention on their cheating spouses and partners.

“I got a revelation to change people’s lives using the spiritual padlock. A padlock is used for locking and unlocking. The spiritual padlock can be used for preventing your partner from cheating, unlocking business potential, fighting spiritual battles, unlocking finances, businesses and even getting jobs. Witchcraft is real and we have many people whose marriages, pregnancy, jobs, love, money and businesses withheld in the dark spiritual realm- all these should be unlocked,” he said.

Speaking to this publication, on condition of anonymity, of the girls said they desperately consulted Black Elisha after failed attempts with love, marriage and bearing children.

“We both had nightmares and we had a feeling that the nightmares were the source of our misery. Fortunately we managed to get help, when we were told it was because of our father’s dealings we couldn’t believe that such could be possible. I think things are opening up and my sister has recently re-united with her lover who had mysteriously left her after making plans of paying lobola,” she said.

Prophet Dube made shocking headlines in 2015 after he reportedly delivered and helped a local woman who had nursed a rare 10 month pregnancy, the woman in the end delivered a bull frog at Mpilo Hospital.
His church was later in the news after his congregants reportedly got blessed with varied grammes of “miracle gold” during a church service.

Recently he made headlines after prophesying that members of the opposition party were going to jump ship and join the ruling ZANU PF, this was followed by MDC leaders Obert Gutu, Tracy Mutinhiri, Lilian Timveous, and others dumping the opposition party to join Zanu PF.

Chilonga Villagers Confront Chiwenga, Demand More Land And Stake In SugarCane Plantations

By James Gwati-Following the failed government plans to evict Chilonga villagers from their ancestral land, the defiant community said they wanted more land and some stake in nearby sugarcane plantations.

The villagers made this request last weekend during a meeting they had with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Most of the sugarcane plantations in Chiredzi are owned and controlled by senior Zanu PF officials or people with close links with the regime.

Government Gives In To Pressure, Reverses Chilonga Forced Evictions

By James, Gwati-The government has given in to pressure from human rights organisations challenging its plans to forcefully evict Chilonga villagers in Chiredzi.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration recently made headlines when it announced that it wanted to move the Chilonga villagers from their land and give it to a single cattle grass grower.

The development attracted attention from human rights organisations and the opposition political groupings forcing Mnangagwa to send his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga to Chilonga for the reversal of the unpopular move.

VP Chiwenga said during the meeting he had with Chilonga community said they were now going to prioritise locals in the irrigation projects that would be established in many other dry areas apart from Chilonga.
“Tatsemura tsemura nzvimbo kuti vanhu vagone kubudirira. Vana vemuno vanotanga kuwana pekurima vamwe wozopindawo. Matunhu ese kusanganisa ne Chilonga inofanirwa kuva ne two hectares dzekurima muWard,” said Chiwenga.

Zanu PF Looting Spree Exposed

By Ben Manyenyeni

When lower levels of government fail, or are assumed to have failed, the role of central government must be seen as one of providing solutions and interventions.

Many people forget that there are ministries responsible for roads and for water – focus is simply on council.

ZINWA and ZINARA are forgiven kids.

Central government cannot and can never argue that a lower tier of government has denied it solutions for the people – especially in crisis times.

A lower tier of government can, as is the case with Harare City Council, argue that higher level of government actions and misrule has denied it the opportunity to deliver services.

The same way government acts in terms of disease outbreaks, food shortages, fuel and electricity deficits should be applied in the areas of perceived failures in local government.

I was in council I saw a billion US dollars of council money lost to ZanuPF decisions on what the world assumes to be MDCA controlled Harare City Council.

Murowa Pvt Limited In Unfair Workers Dismissal Storm

By A Correspondent- Murowa (Pvt) Limited is reportedly terminating contracts of employment for its workers amid claims that the termination is being effected by force on the pretext that there is consensus between the affected workers and the mining giant.

According to a source privy to development, the company has not revealed why the binding contracts are being terminated and why the workers are being presented as having consented to the termination when in fact they were just told that they had been dismissed without notice.

Alleged a whistleblower:

“Murowa recently dismissed five workers who were still under contracts. Some of the employees refused to sign the termination of employment contract but were, however, told that their contracts had been terminated as of February 28, 2021.”

In an audio in our possession, Keith Mashinga who is the Human Resource Superintendent at RZM Murowa confirms to one of the employees who had his contract terminated that working at the company had ceased, without both parties agreeing to sign the mutual termination contract

“…the effective date is 28 February as the letter says…that’s the termination date,” said Mashinga in a leaked audio.

This is despite the fact that RZM Murowa Mutual Termination Of Employment Contract addressed to one of the employees, stipulates in article V on Entire agreement, that the mutual agreement can however become valid if both the employer and the employee have signed the document.

Reads part of the contract:

“This agreement constitutes the entire agreements between the employer and employee. The agreement shall become a binding document upon both parties signing this document. No variation of this agreement shall be binding unless and to the extent that the same is recorded in a written document executed by both parties.”

Speaking to this publication another employee who spoke on condition of anonymity stated that he was unfairly treated when he was dismissed without valid reasons.

“I was not notified neither did they engage me hence the decision was unilateral and lacks legal impetus. These people take us as fools. The sad thing is that they are lying that i have agreed to this termination when in actual fact they are the ones who drafted an agreement without affording me my right in terms of the Labour Act to be consulted on this issue which affects my life and future. Life is tough in the country especially during this covid- 19 period. What surprises me is that they have put forth an agreement to me as a final document and it comes without any basis on how the employer arrived at this decision and the underlying causes.”

Murowa Pvt limited is also accused of effecting unsubstantiated transfers for some of its workers in a reshuffling exercise that has seen those targeted for unfair dismissal being moved from one department to the next.

Added another worker:

“For someone to be dismissed without a basis sets the wrong precedence for all of the workers here. If there is need for a trial to assess one’s performance in accordance with the laws of the companies, every worker must be accorded that opportunity and if they have not executed their mandate as agreed in the contract, they must go through the disciplinary process instead of being fired for no apparent reason.

“If you look at all this, it seems the other Murowa is wielding an axe and wants to make it look like the affected workers have agreed to this termination when they haven’t. Its clearly a violation of the company’s initial agreement to uphold the Code of Conduct.”

Efforts to get a comment from Mashinga proved futile as he referred this reporter to the Vice President Human Resources Administrator.

“Issues to do with media correspondents are being handled by the Vice President Human Admin,” he said.

Called for comment on the matter, the Vice President Human Resources Administration for Murowa Islam Chipango was evasive on the allegations and said:

“We are speaking to them and also through their lawyers. I think to them it will not be fair, and also to us it will not be fair. So I will not make any further comments regarding that issue. They are still our employees. They were not dismissed, we are still with them. We are talking to them, through their lawyers. We actually had a meeting with them on Friday. They might not necessarily be oming to work whilst we are still discussing, but they are still our employees.

“We let the matter be managed properly through legal moves following the provisions of the Labor Act, which is what we are doing. Let’s allow the process to proceed before concluding. In any case before concluding that this is fair or not fair I think we have not yet reached a stage whereby we can say an employee was fairly or unfairly dismissed or removed No one was removed from work, Those are our employees we still have them, we are still talking to them through their lawyers.”

The arbitrary termination of an employee contract of employment by an employer outside the four corners of the law is expressly prohibited in terms of the mandatory/peremptory provisions of Section 12 (4a) of the Labour Act.

The affected workers have engaged Caleb Mucheche and Partners Law Chambers for assistance.

In a letter that Caleb Mucheche and Partners Law Chambers drafted and signed addressing RZM Murowa and was seen by this reporter, it is a violation of the constitutional labour rights for the company to dismiss employees in the name of mutual agreement when both parties have not agreed on signing.

“The employer party purported to unilaterally terminate their employment contracts under the guise of alleged mutual termination of employment in terms of Statutory Instrument 15 of 2006 section 5 (c) but as a matter of fact and law there was no “mutual” termination as alleged at all.

For the avoidance of doubt, the law requires that any mutual termination of employment be in writing, agreed upon by the employer and employee parties and bear both signatures of the aforesaid consenting parties and not one party foisting it on another.”

“Suffice to underscore that our clients’ legal rights and jobs are jealously guarded from any illegal termination by Section 12B (1) of the Labour Act (Chapter 28:01) which categorically and equivocally provides in an instructive way that “Every employee has the right not to be unfairly dismissed.”

“In the same vein arbitrary termination of an employee contract of employment by an employer outside the four corners of the law is ex p re s s l y p ro h i b i te d i n te r m s o f t h e mandatory/peremptory provisions of Section 12 (4a) of the Labour Act.

Needless to reiterate that any unfair or unlawful termination of our clients, contracts of employment is a gross violation of their constitutional labour rights embedded in terms of Section 65 of the constitution of Zimbabwe,” read the letter.

Meanwhile Legal Practitioner Lazarus Maposa stated that the termination effected by Murowa pvt Limited failed to take into cognisence the basic rights and obligations of both parties in a contractual relationship.

“Termination on mutual agreement by any parties in an employment relationship is by no doubt one of safest forms of separation, primarily because of the mutual effect that brings the contractual protagonists at the core cause of the action.

Whilst the instant circumstances do not necessarily require the details of the contractual agreements that were subsisting at the time of termination, a basic understanding of the law is relatively sufficient enough to conclude on balance of probabilities that the termination that was effected by RZM Murowa (Pvt) Limited herein referred to as the employer failed to take regard of the basic rights and obligations of parties in a contractual relationship.

“It is common cause that the procedure for mutual termination is provided for under section 12(4a)(b) of the Labour Act, Chapter 28:01. It being a consented exercise, the law gives the parties an opportunity to exercise a collective and amicable role to discontinue with the employment relationship and to the separation packages accompanying thereof.

Whilst the law confers these rights to parties, due regard must be paid to the underlying principles that satisfy or qualifies a separation that culminates from a mutual route, and two following precautions are necessary; firstly the parties involved must be fully aware of the nature, form and legal consequences underlined thereto and secondly in doing so, the process would have been born out of meeting of minds by the parties, each one of them committing to the termination voluntarily.

“Once a termination that has been effected in the name of a mutual route fails to take due regard to the aforementioned precautionary steps, the termination becomes a unilateral decision by a single party and will not be accorded recognition as one that is born out of meeting of minds. The termination thus becomes unfair in all material respects. Having given that insight, the present circumstances swiftly draw my attention to the Supreme court case of Magodora and Others v Care International SC/91/13. Although I acknowledge that the circumstances in the cited case are distinguishable, there are pertinent remarks made by the court then and can hardly be left untold for purposes of emphasis.

The court had this to say: ‘…It is not open to rewrite a contract entered into between the parties or to excuse any of them from the consequences of a contract that they entered into freely and voluntarily accepted, even if they are shown to be onerous or oppressive…’

“The underlying principles of contract law are pertinent in the preceding remarks from the court. A binding contract is one that indicates the meeting of minds by two capacitated parties and this is often expressed through the appending of signatures .

One party thus cannot unilaterally vary an agreement to the consequence of unceremoniously rendering the other redundant without having to follow the due process that made the same come into being. In short, none of the parties will be excused for either the foreseen or the unforeseen consequences of the contracts and any form of variation should certify the tenets of our law failure for which the legal consequences will be far reaching,” said Maposa.

Maposa stated that the termination contract also lacks legal basis and that it draws the attention of Section 12B of the Labour Act which deals with unfairness in terms of dismissal.

“ I am of stern understanding that the terminations that were effected by the employer in the guise of a mutual agreement are a legal nullity, they lack the qualifications due, they suffer from legal barrenness and cannot sustain any valid argument before any competent court or tribunal of this land. Consequently the results born out of such barrenness are akin to putting nothing on something and then expect such to stand. The cause of action, the action itself together with its consequences are void ab- initio.

“I will not seek to pre-empt the legal fatalities that will obviously be suffered by the employer in this case, apparently the employer is likely to suffer the allegation of unfair dismissal, the fate for which follows the rules of the thumb. It is common cause that the consequences of unfair dismissal are far reaching and will take the two remedies one being the alternative.

At the conclusion of the case, the court is more likely than not to order reinstatement or payment of damages in the alternative and on condition that the employer is able to prove the supervening impossibility of the major.

“To sum up this I can say that a claim of unfair dismissal is bound to draw the attention of the court to Section 12B of the Labour Act, Chapter 28:01. Section 12B which deals with unfairness with regards to a dismissal will test the claim from three dimensions and them being; firstly the question of procedural or substantive defects arising from a dismissal that either does not adhere to the relevant code or chooses not to use one at all and is given in terms of section 12B (2), secondly the question of constructive dismissal given in terms of section 12B (3)(a), & lastly the question of legitimate expectation given in terms of section 12B(3)(b),” he said.

Harare City Council Blocks Investor From Refurbishing Rufaro Stadium

The Harare City Council (HCC) turned away an approach from another private investor who wanted to renovate Rufaro Stadium to modern standards, Acting Mayor, Stewart Mutizwa, has confirmed.

The HCC owns the Mbare facility which is in bad condition due to lack of proper maintenance.

And in April 2019, a private investor proposed to give the stadium an all-round make-over and would, in return, get the naming rights of the stadium.

Speaking to The Herald, Mutizwa said the deal fell through after the council rejected the move to rename the venue.

“Yes, there was an investor who came and proposed that they wanted to help in renovating Rufaro Stadium, sometime in April 2019,” the acting mayor revealed.

“The issue that led to the stalling, in the talks, was to do with the naming rights.

“The conditions were a thorn in the flesh and we couldn’t go with it. There are legal connotations involved there.”

This is not the first time the HCC has reject a deal to sell the naming rights of Rufaro Stadium.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Latest On Mourinho, Solskjaer Tiff

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s son, Noah, has been embroiled in the row between the Manchester United manager and Tottenham’s Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer and Mourinho have been engaged in a verbal fight since the weekend’s meeting in the EPL in which the Red Devils won 3-1.

The United boss was unhappy with how Spurs’ Son Heung-min went down holding his face after being fended off by Scott McTominay in the build-up to an Edinson Cavani goal which was ruled out after a VAR intervention.

The Norwegian said in his post-match: “If that was my son and he stays down, and he needs his mates to help him up, he doesn’t get food because that’s embarrassing.”

Mourinho then hit back, saying Son’s father is a ‘better person’ than his managerial rival.

The Portuguese replied: “I just want to say that Sonny (Son) is very lucky that his father is a better person than Ole. I am a father. I think as a father you have always to feed your kids. Doesn’t matter what they do. If you have to steal to feed your kids, you steal.”

Noah Solskjaer, who started his professional career in Norway with Kristiansund last year, has now jumped to the defence of his father, criticising the Spurs coach and Son in a Norwegian newspaper Tidens Krav.

“Yes, I laughed a lot on Sunday too,” said the 20-year-old. “I always get food, I can assure everyone about that.”

Pressed on his reaction to Mourinho’s defence of Son, Noah added: “I have never been lying down the way Son did.

“Mourinho probably just wanted to take the focus away from the fact they had lost.”- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Billiat Should Not Be Confined To Wings – Gavin Hunt

Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt believes Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat plays better when employed in the center-forward role than as a winger.

Billiat came back from injury to score the decisive goal in Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-2 draw with Guinean side Horoya, which propelled the Soweto giants to their first ever Champions League quarter-final qualification.

Speaking after the match, Hunt opined that the nimble-footed Warriors star is more effective upfront than on the wings.

“I tried to go a little bit narrow on the left-hand side after taking Happy (Mashiane) off. So we went a little bit narrow and played Mshini (Nkosingiphile Ngcobo) on the left-hand side. Obviously we needed (Lazarous) Kambole to come on and then I put Billiat at number nine,”explained Hunt.

He (Billiat) is a striker and not a wide player. I’ve always seen him play wide. I prefer him as a striker, but I have not had the opportunity to play him (as a striker) because we have been struggling in the wide areas,” added the former Bidvest Wits coach.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Minister, Police Boss Sued For US$436k

By A Correspondent| The family of the late Paul Munakopa has sued Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and two police officers for causing the death of the late Bulawayo resident.

In summons filed recently at Bulawayo High Court, former ZLHR Board Chairperson and senior member Josephat Tshuma representing the Munakopa family, which includes his mother Erica Munakopa, his fiancée Tracey Mufidzi, his sister and parents and guardians of his minor children, said police officers acted negligently and caused the death of Munakopa by discharging firearms without due care and attention.

Tshuma said police officers are liable for their misconduct.Munakopa was shot several times on 23 May 2020 in Bulawayo by ZRP officers who were travelling in an unmarked vehicle and later died as a result of injuries he sustained.

Tshuma wants Kazembe, Matanga and the police officers namely Digson Nyoni, Langton Makonye and two individuals Ross Johnson and Kyle Bennet to pay damages amounting to US$436 000 for loss of support to the Munakopa family including Paul’s minor children, emotional shock and trauma caused by witnessing the death of Munakopa.

Out of the US$436 000, US$346 000 will be for loss of support, US$50 000 will be damages for causing the wrongful death of Munakopa and US$2 735 will cover funeral and related expenses.

Legislator Fights Massive Harare ‘Land Theft’

By A Correspondent| Harare North legislator Allan Norman Markham has sued President Emmerson Mnangagwa, City of Harare and Local Government minister July Moyo for conniving to transfer 273 hectares of prime land valued at over US$205 Million to a controversial businessman Kenneth Raydon Sharpe as payment for the construction of Airport Road, whose contract is fraught with illegalities.

The land in question 654 Pomona Township measuring 273 hectares has its title in the President of Zimbabwe.

According to a High Court application filed by Markham, Tavonga Savings Scheme and Jacob Pikicha, the agreement to transfer of 654 Pomona Township represents a complete fraud as the City of Harare officials who acceded to the deal did not have authority from the municipality.

“The Deed of Settlement executed on the 28th of May 2018 is nullity in that, the City of Harare through its council never authorized Herbert Gomba nor any other party to execute the aforesaid agreement,” said Markham.

He added that the registration of the Deed of Settlement, done in the High Court on the application of Augur OU under the Case Number HC4528/19 is a nullity which must be set aside as City of Harare nor Minister of Local Government did not have authority to execute the Deed of Settlement.

Markham further argued that the contract awarded to Ken Sharpe’s Augur Investments for the construction of Airport Road was done illegally as there was a caretaker council that approved the deal was illegal as its appointment was never gazetted in accordance with the law.

“We contend that the caretaker council that signed the Agreement with the City of Harare was illegal. It was illegal in that it was never gazetted. it was illegal in that a caretaker council could never have been appointed when lawful councilors have just been elected,” said Markham.

“Minister Chombo appointed Mahachi to loot the City of Harare. In terms of Section 47(2) (b) of the Urban Councils Act, elected councilors assume office immediately after the announcement of an election which in this case was made on the 30th of March 2008

“Minister Chombo thus acted unlawfully in appointing a caretaker council after councillors had been elected,” Markham added.

He further questioned the awarding of the Airport Road contract to Sharpe without going to tender as required by the Procurement Act of Zimbabwe.

“The Agreement between the City of Harare and Augur Investments was never subjected to tender and because of this it is a nullity.

“Moreover, in terms of the City of Harare’s its own internal procedures, any contract beyond the sum of ZW$50 000.00 required to be subjected to public tender. Therefore the City of Harare’s its own internal regulations were flouted,” he said.

In her response to Markham’s application, Tatiana Aleshima cited as the third respondent said Sharpe and his company Aurgur Investments were absolved by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The Anti-Corruption Commission absolved the 1st responded, 2nd respondent and myself of any wrong doing. The case never went to court and therefore the statements are irrelevant and must be expunged from the record.

She further stated that the Land Commission Secretary Virginia Mabhiza, requested the commission to conduct an enquiry so as to clear Sharpe and herself and they were not implicated in the Uchena land commission report on illegal parcelling of state land.
