Tocky Vibes, Freeman Shine

There is a growing appetite for Zimbabwean music across the globe of late, with more local artists getting invited for festivals and gigs around the world.

Artists suchTocky Vibes, Freeman and Killer T recently took their act to platforms such as Zimfest in the United Kingdom.

Plot Mhako, an arts experts believe this is a step in the creation of international brands among local artists.

‘‘Lately, we have seen the increase in the number of Zimbabweans that are performing at different International platforms across the world. This is a very welcoming positive development that confirms that Zimbabwean art is indeed on demand.  It says that Zimbabwean music is not only for the local consumption but it’s also music that is appealing to a broader Market,’’ he said.

While these stages have created a platform for local artists to get recognition, renowned guitarist, Mono Mukundu believes artists should leverage on the opportunity and make efforts to create a sound that is original.

‘’This is definitely a positive development for our artists. However, there is need for locals to create a sound that is Zimbabwean for them to get recognition globally. If you look at all the artists who have gone global including Oliver Mtukudzi, Chioneso Maraire their music sold out there because it was original not a copied genre. Even if you check the trends globally the artists that do well are usually those who have an original sound of their country,’’ said Mukundu.

Citizens Defy Zanu PF Threats

By A Correspondent

As the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit approaches this weekend, Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF, is witnessing a surge in intimidation tactics by its hardline faction, the Varakashi.

The Varakashi, a notorious group within the party, is reportedly ramping up efforts to intimidate and suppress dissenting voices.

In a recent development, the Varakashi took to social media to escalate their rhetoric.

A Facebook post from the group boldly claimed, “Yes, protesters are not criminals but they are terrorists.”

This alarming statement reflects the group’s aggressive stance towards those expressing opposition or dissent, framing them as threats to national security rather than legitimate voices of protest.

The timing of these actions is particularly significant given the imminent SADC Summit.

The summit represents a critical opportunity for regional leaders to discuss various issues, including political stability and human rights concerns within member states.

Zanu PF’s attempt to stifle dissent ahead of this event raises concerns about the government’s commitment to democratic principles and human rights.

The Varakashi’s actions are seen as part of a broader strategy by Zanu PF to consolidate power and control public perception in the run-up to the summit. By labeling protesters as terrorists, the party seeks to delegitimize and discredit their opposition, potentially deterring public dissent and securing a more favorable narrative for the summit.

Critics argue that such tactics not only undermine democratic freedoms but also contribute to a climate of fear and repression.

The international community, including the SADC, will likely be closely monitoring these developments to assess their impact on regional stability and governance.

As Zimbabwe braces for the SADC Summit, the Varakashi’s aggressive posture highlights the ongoing tensions within the country and the challenges faced by those advocating for democratic reforms and human rights.

Below are responses to Varakashi’s remarks:

Tatenda Moyo, Harare Resident: “It’s disheartening to see the Varakashi escalating their intimidation tactics. Everyone has the right to voice their opinions peacefully, and these actions only serve to stifle democratic debate.”

Chipo Ndlovu, Student Activist:“The claim that protesters are terrorists is deeply troubling.

This kind of rhetoric is dangerous and undermines the very principles of democracy and free speech.”

Ruth Hwara Funeral In Kuwadzana

Ruth Hwara Passes Away Amid Financial Scandal Involving Over USD 100,000 in Missing Funds.

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | In a tragic turn of events, Ruth Hwara, the kidney patient at the center of a controversial GoFundMe campaign, has died. Her passing comes weeks after her family failed to provide crucial financial documents, including bank and Mukuru money transfer statements, raising serious concerns about the whereabouts of over USD 100,000 that was supposed to fund her life-saving operation in India.

Ruth Hwara’s story, which captured the attention of the Zimbabwean community and the broader diaspora, has now ended in sorrow, overshadowed by a scandal involving the misuse of funds. For over a year, a GoFundMe campaign raised substantial amounts of money, with the explicit purpose of covering the costs of Ruth’s kidney operation in India. However, despite the large sum collected, Ruth was never taken to India for the surgery that might have saved her life.

The ZimEye news network, which has been investigating the matter for several months, repeatedly requested transparency from Ruth’s family regarding the handling of the funds. These requests included demands for bank statements and Mukuru transfer receipts that would clarify how the money was managed and why it was not used to facilitate Ruth’s medical treatment.

Unfortunately, these documents were never provided. The family’s failure to produce any financial records has only deepened suspicions of misappropriation and mismanagement of the donated funds. The absence of these crucial documents leaves many unanswered questions about how the money was spent and whether Ruth ever stood a chance of receiving the treatment she so desperately needed.

In the weeks leading up to her death, Ruth’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Despite the substantial funds that were available, no evidence suggests that any significant portion of the money was used to improve her medical care or to secure her transport to India. Instead, the funds seem to have vanished, with no clear explanation or accountability from those who were responsible for managing the campaign.

The lack of transparency has sparked outrage among the donors who contributed to the GoFundMe campaign, many of whom feel deceived and betrayed. One donor, speaking to ZimEye, expressed their frustration: “We gave money to save a life, but instead, we are left with nothing but grief and unanswered questions. The fact that Ruth never even made it to India is unforgivable. We demand to know where our money went.”

As the investigation continues, the focus will be on uncovering the truth behind the missing funds. ZimEye remains committed to holding those responsible accountable and ensuring that the full story of what happened to Ruth Hwara and the money raised in her name is brought to light.

Ruth’s death marks a tragic end to a saga that should have been about hope and healing. Instead, it has become a cautionary tale about the dangers of financial mismanagement and the critical importance of transparency in charitable campaigns. The Zimbabwean community mourns Ruth’s passing and continues to seek justice for her and the donors who placed their trust in a campaign that ultimately failed to deliver on its promises.

More Good News For ZEP Holders

South Africa- The Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber, has cut red tape on the processing of Zimbabwe Exemption Permits (ZEPs).

The DA minister has set up a new technical team to fast-track the work permit application process.

About 178,000 ZEP holders who are authorized to live and work in South Africa face a looming deadline as their permits expire by 2025.

In response, both Zimbabweans and their employers have been actively applying for regular work permits.
The push for a more streamlined process began in 2022 when Aaron Motsoaledi, the then Minister of Home Affairs, introduced a waiver allowing ZEP holders to apply for mainstream work visas without needing to secure certifications from the Department of Labour and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). This initiative was aimed at facilitating a smoother transition from the ZEP scheme.
However, Schreiber noted an issue where the waiver for the SAQA certificate was mistakenly omitted from the notifications sent to ZEP holders. “This defeated the purpose of the waiver, as it created a bottleneck with home affairs officials unsure of how to process the applications. A legal opinion further confirmed that this oversight needed to be corrected through a technical amendment issued via a circular,” he explained.
The necessary amendment was officially published this Wednesday. Schreiber expressed optimism about the adjustment: “Thanks to this correction, we hope to speed up the process of migrating away from the ZEP towards mainstream work visas for applicants who contribute to the economy and qualify in terms of the law. It should be noted that the waiver only enables ZEP holders to submit applications more speedily and does not influence the subsequent outcome of any application. All relevant criteria must still be met for a specific application to be successful.”
Moreover, Schreiber highlighted the substantial backlog of visa applications, which stood at 306,000 at the end of May. To address this, the department’s “backlog team” is now working in two daily shifts to mitigate the delays.
Concluding, Schreiber emphasized that the technical amendment is part of a broader effort by the department to eliminate regulatory bottlenecks and clear existing backlogs.

Weekend Mass Protest To Go Ahead

By Political Reporter- Organisers of the weekend mass protest against human rights abuses by the government said they are ready for the task.

By Tuesday, more than 10,000 people had confirmed their participation in the August 17 protests organised by a faction of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

This date coincides with the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, set to be held in Harare.

Despite the government’s recent deployment of military tankers onto the streets in a clear attempt to intimidate the populace, the activists remain undeterred.

Operating under the banner “Zimbabwe, Let’s Unite and Fix Our Country,” they have notified the police of their intention to hold peaceful demonstrations.

In a letter dated August 8, 2024, addressed to the officer commanding Harare District, CCC convener Vincent Taruvinga indicated that they expect a turnout of 10,000 protesters. The letter states:
“The purpose of the public demonstration is to peacefully protest against the increased human rights abuses in the country, characterised by the continued arrests and detention of pro-democracy activists. It is to protest against the denial of citizens’ rights to assemble as enshrined in the Zimbabwe constitution. Demonstrators will assemble at Robert Mugabe Square, opposite Rainbow Hotel, at 10:00 hrs.”

CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi confirmed that some of the notifications had been received by the police, stressing the legality of their actions:
“Because of the nature of the regime we are dealing with, we will take every step that the law requires. We have notified the police. There is no section that says we must seek permission. We have just notified them. The police are aware, and they know that the protesters are secure, so we expect cooperation from the police in terms of the constitution. We are targeting to stage protests in all provinces across the country. But in most incidents, police have recorded or acknowledged that they have received our notifications.”

However, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi claimed he was not aware of the notifications, stating that such matters are handled at the district level.

Despite the heavy-handed display of military might last week, which many view as an attempt to instill fear and suppress dissent, the resolve among these activists remains unshaken.

The planned protests are set to test the government’s tolerance of dissent and the people’s determination to fight for their rights in the face of escalating repression.

No Roofs At All On Govt’s SADC Villas 48 Hours Before Summit Despite Millions Paid Italian Contractor

By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Mount Hampden, Zimbabwe — With just 48 hours left before the prestigious Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit, the Zimbabwean government is in crisis mode as the Diplomatic Village, intended to house top dignitaries, remains unfinished. Despite spending millions on an Italian contractor, several of the villas remain without roofs, raising concerns about the country’s preparedness to host the event.

SADC villas still without roofs yesterday

The Diplomatic Village, situated a kilometer east of the New Parliament in Mount Hampden, was supposed to be a showcase of Zimbabwe’s development and hospitality. The government contracted an Italian firm to build 18 luxury villas, specifically for VVIPs and VIPs attending the summit. However, construction delays have left the project far from completion, with some villas still lacking roofs, let alone finishing touches like painting and furnishing, the The Information Development Trust reveals.

Workers have been deployed around the clock in a desperate attempt to complete the buildings, but the scale of the remaining work suggests that these efforts may be in vain. The unpaved and dusty access road leading to the site further compounds the problem, with no streetlights installed along the route from Mount Hampden to Bindura Road, adding to the unfinished appearance of the complex.

The Italian company, responsible for the construction, had initially promised to deliver the villas by mid-July. However, the reality on the ground has exposed significant project management issues, raising questions about the oversight and allocation of the millions spent on this high-profile venture.

As the summit approaches, the government is now faced with the unenviable task of finding alternative accommodations for the distinguished guests or risking the embarrassment of housing them in incomplete structures. The failure to deliver on such a critical project not only jeopardizes the success of the summit but could also have lasting diplomatic repercussions for Zimbabwe.

This unfolding situation highlights significant concerns over the planning and execution of major government projects, with the Diplomatic Village now symbolizing a costly misstep that could tarnish the country’s image on the international stage.

Pressure Heightening For Zimbabwe To Respect Rights Of Activists

By A Correspondent| Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Network (Southern Defenders) has called on Foreign Affairs Minister Frederick Shava to address the escalating crackdown on civil liberties, the arrest of opposition members, and increasing threats against dissent ahead of the upcoming SADC Heads of State and Government Summit.

The government has been intensifying its efforts to suppress dissent, amid fears of protests during the SADC summit scheduled for Saturday. Over 100 pro-democracy and opposition activists are reportedly being held in arbitrary detention.

Southern Defenders Chairperson Adriano Nuvunga expressed concern over the situation, urging the immediate release of those detained for exercising their constitutional rights.

“This crackdown has led to the arbitrary detention of approximately 165 individuals, including opposition members, activists, and human rights defenders. Some of them have reportedly been subjected to torture and other forms of ill-treatment,” Nuvunga wrote.

The detainees face charges of disorderly conduct and other accusations under Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law [Codification and Reform] Act, based on allegations that they were planning protests ahead of the SADC summit.

“We call on you and your government to release these individuals unconditionally and immediately. Their continued arbitrary detention violates their rights to freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly, and liberty,” added Nuvunga.

MONEY MISTAKES

Food for thought;

Dr Banabasi Marambire

After my previous post, I received feedback and questions. Unfortunately, because of time, I will not be able to answer individual questions. I have decided to take 13 days teaching about money. Let’s try to learn something here. Don’t miss out.

Money Mistake #1

Never borrow money that accrues interest to start a business. That is to say, never borrow money to start a business expecting that the business will generate income to pay back the borrowed money plus the interest. Ask yourself this question: “What if the business fails, how would you pay back the money?”

Money people are stacked in debt after they borrow money to start a business, hoping that the business will be successful. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.

So if one is not encouraged to borrow money to start a business, then how can one raise capital. This is my opinion, it might not be a fact but I experienced it and it worked. Every person always has something special. Unfortunately, people don’t like to part with what they think it’s valuable to them. You have a pair of shoes, a suit, chickens, goat, a cow, or even your smartphone that you are using to read this message. Sell what you have to raise capital for business. If the business fails, at least it’s your loss, not other people’s money. You will recover one day.

People are not willing to risk with their own money. They would rather risk with other people’s money, which is a wrong approach.

So please listen, don’t borrow money that comes with interest to start a business. It’s too risky.

Tomorrow, we will talk about “spending”

The C.E.O, Dr

The severity of her injuries required immediate medical attention, but her struggle to secure funds for an ambulance to transport her to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo underscores the harsh realities faced by victims of human-wildlife conflicts.

Elies stomping the ground

Initially, Ncube was taken to St Patrick’s Hospital in Hwange, but due to the critical nature of her condition, she was later transferred to Bulawayo. However, the financial burden of the transfer, including the ambulance fees, has posed a significant challenge for her and her family. This situation has sparked outrage and concern among the local community, who are calling for more comprehensive measures to address the increasing conflicts between humans and wildlife.

Hwange residents, alongside environmental advocates, have renewed their calls for the urgent finalisation of the Parks and Wildlife Bill, which is currently under consideration. The bill is seen as a critical step in mitigating the dangers posed by wildlife in human-inhabited areas and providing necessary support to victims of such conflicts.

Green Shango Environment Trust director, Mr. Daniel Sithole, voiced his frustration on social media, highlighting the inequities in the current system. “A sad event occurred in Hwange when an elephant trampled Loveness Ncube. This emphasises how urgently the bill needs to be amended in order to assist those who have been harmed by conflicts between people and wildlife. For her transfer to Bulawayo, she is having difficulty raising the ambulance fees. The fact that wild animals have an ambulance but human victims do not have one is shocking. These conflicts will only grow more frequent as climate change becomes more severe,” Sithole posted on his X handle.

Sithole’s comments reflect a broader concern that as climate change exacerbates the scarcity of resources, human-wildlife conflicts will likely increase, making it imperative for legislation to provide adequate protection and support for affected individuals. The current situation, where wildlife receives prompt care while human victims struggle to access basic medical services, is seen as untenable and unjust.

This incident has galvanized local and national conversations around the need for a balanced approach that ensures the safety and well-being of both humans and wildlife. As the Parks and Wildlife Bill continues to be debated, many hope that the lessons from Ncube’s tragic encounter will lead to meaningful reforms that prevent future tragedies and provide adequate support for those who fall victim to such conflicts.

Chinese National Fined for Operating Drone Illegally in Zimbabwe

Masvingo, Zimbabwe – August 15, 2024

A Chinese national, Dai Pengfe (55), appeared before the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawfully operating a drone without the necessary permit. The incident, which took place on August 9, 2024, at Nyika Growth Point in Bikita, has drawn significant attention to the legal requirements surrounding drone usage in the country.

According to reports, police officers observed Dai Pengfe operating a drone that had ascended to a height of 15-20 meters above roof level. Upon questioning, Pengfe was unable to produce a valid permit authorizing him to operate the drone, leading to his immediate arrest.

Huge drone- file copy

The court found Dai Pengfe guilty of the charges, sentencing him to a fine of USD 200 or, alternatively, 30 days of imprisonment. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to legal regulations concerning the operation of drones, particularly for foreign nationals.

Local authorities have reiterated the need for all drone operators to ensure they have the necessary permits and licenses to avoid legal repercussions. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by Zimbabwean authorities to regulate drone usage and maintain public safety.

Top Journalist Dies

By Political Reporter- One of the country’s most celebrated journalists, Simba Rushwaya, has died.

Simba Rushwaya

Rushwaya succumbed to colon cancer at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Tuesday at the age of 49.

Announcing Rushwaya’s sad demise, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) said the journalism industry was shocked.

“A professional and respectful individual, Rushwaya worked across various media houses in Zimbabwe, mostly as a sports journalist,” reads the statement.

His distinguished career also saw him being chosen as secretary-general of the Sports Writers’ Association of Zimbabwe (2000-2003).

Rushwaya started his professional journey as a junior sports reporter for the Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe (ANZ) in the year 2000, rising through the ranks to become deputy sports editor in March 2003.

In September 2004, he joined the then-Zimbabwe Mirror Group as deputy sports editor. He was later promoted to sports editor in December 2005 until March 2007.

ZUJ said Rushwaya then moved to Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) where he joined the Newsday newspaper as a senior sports reporter and rose through the ranks to become AMH’sAMH’s group sports editor in 2014.

After AMH the veteran journalist had stints at Flame News from February to April 2015, and Gauteng Guardian (2016-2017) as news editor in both cases.

In June 2019, Rushwaya rejoined the ANZ as the deputy news editor for the Daily News. At the time of his death, Rushwaya had just joined The Manica Post as a senior sports reporter.

Chamisa Calls For Fresh Polls

By Political Reporter- Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) President Nelson Chamisa has called for fresh elections, declaring the 2023 polls rigged and void.

Chamisa, a charismatic leader, insisted that discussions about the 2028 elections are premature and irrelevant until the controversies surrounding the 2023 polls are fully addressed. “2028 is not on the table at all,” Chamisa stated emphatically. “Talking about 2028 presupposes that we had 2023. But 2023 was a nullity, a void; therefore, it does not exist. Nothing stands on nothing.”

Chamisa acknowledged the challenges faced but emphasized the need to continue the struggle for electoral justice. “The fact that we have had challenges does not mean that it’s impossible or it’s not doable. We must continue fighting until we get it. That’s why it’s a struggle. It’s never a walk in the park; it’s not instant coffee or picking pumpkins.”

He criticised those who view the 2028 elections as a solution, stressing the importance of addressing the flaws in the current system. “We must fix what is broken now,” Chamisa urged, calling for electoral reforms that would ensure the emergence of legitimate leaders. “We must have proper processes that produce proper leaders. People must not be sceptical about proper electoral and national processes because, ultimately, that is what we must fight to restore.”

Using a vivid analogy, Chamisa illustrated his point: “If you eat a meal and you have stomach pains and diarrhoea, do you move around and say eating is not good? No! Eating an improper meal is not good. But don’t condemn eating because you ate a bad meal.”
Chamisa also condemned the ongoing arrests targeting opposition activists and pro-democracy campaigners, likening Zimbabwe to “a jungle.” He said, “What we are seeing is a definition of dictatorship. The everyday lived realities of the citizens are indicative of the challenges we face daily. Zimbabwe is such a jungle, and being a Zimbabwean is a struggle. You struggle for everything: water, transport, roads, power outages—it’s a nightmare. The crackdown, the arrests, the persecution are reminders to those in office that they have overstayed their welcome. But it’s also a reminder to all the citizens that the people in office are the wrong ones.”

For the first time since the founding the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in 1999, Nelson Chamisa is not affiliated with any political party.

He resigned from the CCC in January, a party he had helped establish just over two years ago, citing its “contamination” and “hijacking” by the ruling ZANU PF party.

Mnangagwa Oils Soldiers To Crash Weekend Mass Protests

By Political Reporter- The repressive administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fortified the military in preparation to crush the planned August 17 protests in Harare.

On Tuesday, Mnangagwa announced several initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) personnel.

This comes as the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), associated with Nelson Chamisa, claimed to have mobilized over 10,000 people to protest against ongoing human rights abuses by the Harare regime during the upcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit.

In a clear show of force, Mnangagwa last week deployed army tanks in the streets of Harare and Chitungwiza, a move widely seen as an attempt to intimidate potential protesters.

During his address at the 44th anniversary of Defence Forces Day at Rufaro Stadium in Harare, Mnangagwa announced plans to construct 3,000 housing units for the defence forces, along with other non-monetary benefits. He stated:
“An array of strategies is underway to improve the welfare of members of our defence forces. Non-monetary incentives such as civil service housing loans and the civil service vehicle purchase scheme have been extended to members of the defence forces. Furthermore, my government has expanded the transport fleet for the defence forces through the procurement and delivery of an assortment of vehicles.”
“In addition to housing units that are ready for occupation, the Government will soon embark on the construction of 3,000 housing units for members of the ZDF. This is part of my administration’s comprehensive programme to increase affordable housing stock throughout the country.”

Mnangagwa also emphasised the importance of healthcare for the military, pledging that all military hospitals and health institutions will be equipped with modern equipment and sufficient medicines. He added:
“Similarly, healthcare for members of the defence forces is of critical importance for their general upkeep. My government is committed to ensuring that all military hospitals and health institutions have the requisite modern equipment and adequate medicines. The construction of the Defence Forces Referral Hospital at Manyame Air Force Base is being accelerated.”

The Zanu PF government has long been accused of using the military to suppress opposition voices.

The administration is known for prioritizing the welfare of ZDF members, often providing them with preferential treatment compared to other state employees.

In 2017, the military staged a coup that ousted former President Robert Mugabe from power, paving the way for Mnangagwa to assume the presidency.

Kaitano Tembo Set For SA PSL Return

Kaitano Tembo has been linked with a return to the South African top-flight league.

Tembo has been without a job following his sacking at Richards Bay on Christmas day last year.

According to FarPost.co.za, the Zimbabwean gaffer could make a sensational return to Sekhukhune United.

The coach previously led Babina Noko in June 2022 but departed in November of the same year due to a string of disappointing results in the PSL.

He has been offered an opportunity to work alongside Lehlohonolo Seema as his assistant.

Seema was recently appointed the head coach of Sekhukhune to replace German coach Peter Hyballa, who left the club.

Gonyet Crashes into Residential House in Mutare

By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | A tragic accident occurred this morning in Mutare when a large haulage truck lost control and veered off the road, crashing directly into a residential home. The scene is one of devastation as the truck plowed through the house, causing significant structural damage and leaving the occupants and the community in shock.

The aftermath

According to witnesses at the scene, the truck, which was transporting goods, appeared to have suffered a mechanical failure before it swerved uncontrollably off the road. The impact was severe, demolishing a substantial portion of the house’s walls and roof, and scattering debris across the surrounding area. The front of the truck is seen lodged deep into the home, with its cargo still partially covered by a large tarp.

All destroyed…Side view

Rescue efforts were immediately initiated, with emergency services and local residents working tirelessly to search through the rubble for any individuals who might have been trapped inside. The extent of injuries or potential fatalities is yet to be confirmed, but the severity of the crash has left the community deeply concerned for those who were inside the house at the time of the accident.

The house, which now stands partially collapsed, bears the scars of the incident—a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life. The force of the impact tore through brick walls, dislodging chunks of masonry and leaving behind a scene of utter destruction. Tagwirei Accused Of Funding ‘Paedophile’ Rutendo Matinyarare

By A Correspondent| A South African non-governmental organisation Save Our Girls has accused Zimbabwean tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei of funding media activities of controversial political activist Rutendo Matinyarare who is in the eye of a storm over reckless social media posts where he glorified paedophiles.

In their papers deposted at the South African High Court, Save Our Girls cited Matinyarare and Tagwirei as respondents with the latter dragged into the matter because of his role in funding the former’s media activities.

In one of his controversial posts, Matinyarare said; “When you date 16-year-olds you get the bonus of also smashing their mums when you are feeling like mature wine.”

He followed up with another tweet,” Tender and impressionable, Still having dreams before being abused by bad boys.”

When a South African woman by the name of Pumzile responded,” I am the mother of a 10-year-old girl. She clearly isnt safe with the likes of you around,” Matinyarare replied, “When she gets to 16 let me know.”

Chnyanya who filed the case against Matinyarare said his words are chilling words. especially to the parents of 16-year-olds.

Concern Over Rising Cases Of Monkeypox

By A Correspondent| Health advocates in Zimbabwe are expressing concern over the rising cases of monkeypox (Mpox) across Africa, even though the country has yet to record a single case.

The continent has seen a significant increase in Mpox cases and deaths since January this year. To date, 17,541 Mpox cases have been reported, with 2,822 confirmed and 14,719 suspected cases. A total of 517 deaths, with a case fatality rate of 2.95%, have been reported in 13 African Union (AU) member states.

Community Working Group on Health executive director Itai Rusike told NewsDay that the spread of Mpox to several African countries is “very worrying” and urged Zimbabwe to take immediate precautions to protect its citizens and save lives.

“We have just come out of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, and there is a need to upgrade our surveillance and tracking systems, especially along the porous land borders, to ensure that everyone who comes into the country is properly monitored,” Rusike said.

He also praised Zimbabwe’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, noting, “We hope that we can continue to use that experience for strengthening the preventive measures that are required to deal with Mpox.”

Rusike further emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant despite the absence of confirmed Mpox cases in Zimbabwe, saying, “Even though the country has not yet recorded any confirmed cases of Mpox, we should remain vigilant and not lower our guard by becoming complacent as other African countries have already been affected.”

He also stressed the need for effective community engagement to promote awareness and preventive measures for Mpox.

In response, the Health and Child Care Ministry stated that it is prepared to protect citizens from the highly contagious disease.

“One of the things we are very proud of as a nation is our very strong disease surveillance system, as it was one of our key response strategic pillars during the national COVID-19 pandemic,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added, “We specifically worked tirelessly to strengthen our disease surveillance system in schools and at all ports of entry, working collaboratively with all stakeholders.”

It further assured that the government continues to reinforce disease surveillance at all ports of entry and is ready for any eventuality. “In addition to strengthening our surveillance system, the ministry is very much on top of the situation in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidance and local data and science,” the statement concluded.

Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention director-general Jean Kaseya highlighted that reported Mpox cases in Africa had increased by 79% from 2022-23 and by 160% from 2023-24. In the past week alone, 887 new confirmed and suspected Mpox cases were reported on the continent, bringing the year’s total to 15,132, according to data presented during a media briefing.

Mpox, a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus, is a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus, according to WHO. Common symptoms include a skin rash or mucosal lesions lasting two to four weeks, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes. Mpox can be transmitted through physical contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or infected animals. Some outbreaks have had fatality rates as high as 10%, though more recent outbreaks have seen lower death rates.

“Paedophilia” Mnangagwa Sympathiser In Hot Soup Over Wreckless Remarks On Under age Girls

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s campaigner Rutendo Matinyarare is in hot soup over his reckless remarks that encouraged men to hit on under-age girls.

In a video that was widely circulated on social media, Matinyarare is heard saying he loves women and has failed to say no to under-age girls who seduced him.

“I love women, infact i love them so much that dont know how to control myself around them, i have been seduced by 16 year-olds, so a child has just grown out of maturity they come as a little gang to visit ubhudhi in the complex and they seduce you and when you are supposed to say no, you dont say no, i have been there,” said Matinyarare.

Now an NGO named Save our Girls has launched a case in the South African High Court citing social media posts by Matinyarare where he said, “If you date 16-year-olds you get the bonus of also smashing their mums when you are feeling like mature wine.”

Meanwhile, Save Our Girls has also cited tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei as a respondent saying he is the one who is funding Matinyarare’s media activities.

Matinyarare has since responded to the news article denying any links with Tagwirei.

“I am yet to be served with these papers and i am unsure why Kuda Tagwirei is being cited as the funder of what is being labelled my propaganda when i have never met Tagwirei,” he said.

We are honouring the fighting spirit of our
gallant sons and daughters through increased
performance of the agriculture sector. In the
midst of the El Nino induced drought, our
winter wheat cropping season continues to score
remarkable successes. A record 121 982 hectares of wheat have been planted this season. Further,
my Government has already commenced rolling
out preparations for the 2024/2025 summer
cropping season, which is expected to restore food
security through increased production, on the back
of massive irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation,
expansion and utilisation.

Meanwhile, Government is providing social
protection for vulnerable communities and
households to ensure that no one starves.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Our mining sector continues to benefit from
investment into new and existing projects.
I exhort players in the sector to ensure that we
derive maximum benefits from the precious
minerals, which our heroes fought for, by value
adding and beneficiating them.

The role of the energy and power sector in socioeconomic development through industrialisation
cannot be over-emphasised. Low power
production levels at Kariba Power Station are
being offset by the Hwange 7 & 8 expansion
project, which now feeds a constant supply
to the national grid. Among numerous power
augmentation projects, two large solar plants
with a total capacity of 250 megawatts are being
developed and will soon be commissioned.

Our manufacturing sector is expanding value
addition and beneficiation activities. This has
seen manufacturing capacity utilisation increasing
to 53%, and the creation of jobs which are yielding
decent livelihoods.

Micro, small and medium enterprises continue
to scale new heights in promoting women
empowerment and community development, and
are playing a major role in the manufacturing and
commercial sectors.

With a view to enhancing productivity and
competitiveness of micro, small and medium
enterprises, particularly those run by Liberation
Struggle Veterans, the Second Republic is
prioritising workspace provision through
partnerships with Pension Funds, Local Authorities,
the Private Sector and Development Partners. We
have since commissioned several Safe Markets
and Factory Shells across the country.

Government will soon undertake a comprehensive
skills audit which is expected to guide our
investment towards upscaling skills delivery for
optimal national economic performance. The focus
will be on skills required for industrialisation,
business enterprise as well as effective and
efficient delivery of public services to citizens in
modern times.

The devolution and decentralisation programme is
also addressing specific community needs, through
utilising inter-governmental fiscal transfers.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
Infrastructure upgrading and expansion projects
in the transport sector continue to deliver
tremendous results for our roads, bridges and
related infrastructure. Focus has shifted to the
Harare-Chirundu road section, as well as the
upgrading of the Harare-Kanyemba, HarareNyamapanda, the Old Gwanda Road and the
Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway,
among others. Remarkable progress is visible at
the Mbudzi Interchange south of Harare.

The Second Republic is fully aware of the
pressing need for decent shelter for all citizens,
hence, the continuing robust investment which is
transforming both urban and rural communities.
The Second Republic has taken the strategic
decision to position the Rural Infrastructure
Development Agency, in all rural districts across
every province.

The Agency is attending to both gravel and surfaced roads, weirs and small dams
for water provision for domestic and agricultural
use, as well as infrastructure support for clinics,
schools and dip tanks.

Our border posts are undergoing transformation,
with physical infrastructure being complemented
by technological innovations. This is enhancing
the movement of goods and people as well as
regional integration.

Earlier this year, the Second Republic relaunched
the Youth Service in Zimbabwe Training
Programme. This marks an important step in
ensuring that young people are patriotic and loyal
citizens, who reconnect with our national history
and identify with the priceless sacrifices of our
liberators. Our centres at Dadaya in Midlands
and Vumba in Manicaland are currently training
over a thousand youths, while vocational training
centres are being modernised with state-of-the-art
machinery and digital technology.

As we celebrate the achievements of our heroes,
the Second Republic is committed to building
a robust health delivery system that ensures the
highest standards of care. Government has to
date equipped 78% of District Hospitals with
fully functional operating theatres for emergency
maternity surgeries. This programme is being
rolled out to cover all similar facilities.
The crusade which we declared against drug and
substance abuse targets a population that is free
from the menace.

Among a plethora of strategies,
Government is focusing on sporting and arts
infrastructure development, including in rural
areas where the majority of our people live.
On that note, the Rafomoyo Multipurpose Court,
which was recently commissioned in Gutu, will
be replicated across all districts.

The safety and security of women and girls in
an independent and free nation is of paramount
importance, hence, we are strengthening ongoing
efforts to prevent gender-based violence. Cases
are being handled swiftly and firmly in order to
deter offenders.

Our priority in the Primary and Secondary school
sub-sector is to ensure access to quality education.
Through inter-agency collaboration, the highest
possible levels of hygiene are being enforced
in order to safeguard health. We are enhancing
public-private partnerships for the purpose of
improving the teaching and learning environment
at all previously disadvantaged schools.
As it was during the liberation struggle, where
cadres used to innovate during the prosecution
of the war, students in the Higher and Tertiary
education sub-sector are taking innovation to new
heights and creating goods, services, jobs and
industries.

Our commitment to the digital technology
revolution is a cornerstone for empowerment as
part of the enhancement of service delivery and
driving economic growth. Hence, Government is
seized with initiatives such as the establishment
of digital hubs in rural areas. This robust ICT
programme is expected to improve healthcare
delivery, boost agricultural productivity and
create numerous opportunities for individuals,
households and communities towards achieving
prosperity.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
The nation for which our gallant sons and daughters
paid the supreme sacrifice is richly endowed
with breath-taking landscapes, pristine wildlife
and a vibrant culture, all of which contribute to
our status as the tourist destination of choice.
Highlighting this, the tourism sector has been
on a rebound.

Recently, we successfully hosted
the United Nations Gastronomy Conference, where our cuisine showcased Zimbabwe at its
best. The United Nations Tourism Organisation
has since approved the setting up of the African
International Culinary Arts Academy in our resort
city of Victoria Falls.

In Harare, the Liberation City will soon take
its place among the biggest man-made tourist
attractions, together with the Museum of African
Liberation from which all progressive nations on
our Continent will tell the story of their arduous
journey to Independence, democracy and freedom.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Issues related to the welfare and economic
empowerment of Veterans, Widows and War
Victims will continue to be given the attention
they deserve.

In our endeavour to mould lasting national
consciousness that defends, upholds and promotes
our founding values, the Ministry of Information,
Publicity and Broadcasting Services has conducted
research on our fallen heroes.

The Second Republic is aware of the need
to memorialise the Liberation War through
repatriation, reburials and related processes
to bring closure to the families of deceased
Veterans. Apart from well-known bases such
as Freedom Camp, Mkushi, Nyadzonia and
Chimoio, Government is availing resources
towards repatriating and reburying thousands of
Veterans who still lie in shallow and unmarked
graves in and outside the country.
The need to accurately record, document and
preserve the story of the Liberation Struggle
cannot be over-emphasised. There are numerous
records, which are available both in Zimbabwe
and in countries that supported our revolutionary
war. These require collation, annotation and
electronic storage to facilitate ease of retrieval.

The Department of National Archives of Zimbabwe
is also exploring partnerships with families
of nationalists to establish liberation heritage
archives and sites in all the ten provinces of our
Motherland. The Department has also compiled
documentation of liberation heritage narratives,
with special focus on the Kamungoma Massacre
Site in Gutu, Butcher Site in Rusape, and the
former Dzapasi Assembly Point in Buhera, among
others.

The Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle
Affairs is expected to increase the visibility and
awareness of their programmes, inclusive of the
benefits accruing to our veterans of the liberation
struggle as well as their dependents.

In addition, many injured War Victims should be
registered and compensated appropriately. The
majority of widows of our heroes are not aware
of their benefits, and some children are not in school and do not receive medical attention. We
are, therefore, running awareness campaigns
throughout the country, and requests for assistance
are being received.

Fellow Zimbabweans and Dear Comrades;
Our 44th Heroes Day commemorations are marking
a milestone in that we are conferring medals to
a total of 184 310 Veterans of the Liberation
Struggle who include 56 681 War Veterans; 7 839
Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees;
110 374 War Collaborators; and 9 990 NonCombatant Cadres. We will also confer honours
and awards to deserving persons as follows:

  • the Royal Order of Munhumutapa;
  • the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe;
  • the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe;
  • the Commendation Medal; and
  • the Independence Medal.

The conferment of medals on individuals who
exhibited valour and performed distinguished
humanitarian acts in various fields is intended
to immortalise and memorialise the actions of
the individuals. We are also honouring the Black
Umfolosi ensemble for their song “Unity” which
has stood the test of time. The song fosters unity
in recognition of the fact that we are one people
and one nation of Zimbabwe despite our diverse
geographical locations. From Plumtree to Mutare,
from Beitbridge to Chirundu, we are one people,
united by one national flag and one national
anthem.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Our democratic principles require sufficient
dissemination of the Constitution. It is pleasing
to note that Constitutional advocacy sessions
have now been conducted in all provinces of our
Motherland and cascaded to district level. In May
this year, Government conducted an induction and sensitisation workshop for all Chiefs on
their newly granted role as Marriage Officers.
The Chiefs now have authority to preside over
customary marriages and intervene in inheritance
issues, for the convenience of the general citizenry
in communities.

Our commitment to efficient service delivery is
unwavering. We are entrenching performance
contracting, and the exercise has been completed
at most of our top levels. The ultimate target is to
ensure value for money from all office bearers,
while enhancing accountability to the nation that
we all serve.

Over and above this, the Second Republic
recognises the important role and selfless sacrifices
being made by our patriotic civil service officials
towards the transformation of Zimbabwe into
an industrialising and knowledge-based upper
middle income country.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
In line with our mantra, “a friend to all and an
enemy to none” we continue to form strategic
alliances with our traditional as well as new
partners in both the region and beyond.

Today’s celebrations come a few days before our
hosting of the SADC Summit of Heads of State
and Government, where we will also be assuming
the Chairmanship of our regional body. Build up
events and activities have already commenced,
including the SADC Industrialisation Week
as well as the Standing Committee of Senior
Officials’ Meetings.

I once again take this opportunity to thank
all Zimbabweans for maintaining a peaceful
environment across the length and breadth of
our Motherland. Our brand remains that of a
progressive and loving people who are hospitable
not only to their kith and kin but to all persons
created in the image of the Lord Almighty.

Let us all continue to make our visitors feel at
home away from home, that we are one with
them, and that they shall always be free to visit,
whether on business or on private affairs. That is
the Zimbabwe that our departed liberators whom
we are gathered here to commemorate would have
loved to live in: in harmony and always committed
to the betterment of mankind.

In conclusion, as we celebrate Heroes Day, let
us not take for granted the Independence and
freedom that we are enjoying today, which was
brought about by the sacrifices of the courageous
men and women, who fought against the brutal
racist colonial regime.

I, therefore, call upon every one of us to emulate
their lives through playing our part by laying the
foundations for a more prosperous future for both
present and future generations. Nyika inovakwa,
inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi
balo.

As we honour our National Heroes today, may
we not only look back with admiration at their
profound sense of patriotism but also look at the
future of our country and its unrelenting longing
for the same profound sense of patriotism from us.

To the families of our heroes and heroines,
let me once again commit my Government to
the furtherance of the principles that inspired
thousands to take up arms and liberate this nation.

Our determination to look after your welfare is
unwavering, and we shall always be bound by
the lofty values of Servant Leadership, patriotism
and loyalty as our great nation continues its
relentless march towards the attainment of Vision

  1. As we would chant from the trenches of
the Struggle, Aluta Continua… the Struggle
    Continues… and Victory is Certain.

May the dear souls of our departed heroes and
heroines rest in eternal peace.

Long live our Unity, Peace and Freedom.
Long live Zimbabwe.
Ngiyalibonga lonke.
Ndinokutendai mose.
God bless you all.
God bless Zimbabwe.
I thank you.

Opposition Party Lambasts Mnangagwa Party

Our heroes day is supposed to be an unforgettable celebration of courage, dedication and
heroism. All Zimbabweans are expected to pay tribute to the extraordinary men and women
who made a lasting impact on our lives. Unfortunately, their courage and dedication brought
no fruit.

Many are regretting in their graves, crying and wondering whether Zimbabwe
(Rhodesia) was better off under white rule? With our freedom we have been breeding
corruption, torture, nepotism, murder and tribalism and selling our country resources at a
price of buy one get three for free.
Under the White rule, they brought agriculture, electricity, literacy, education,
transportation, accountability, a very proud national airline and pretty much all the
technology. Zanu PF destroyed of all that is good and cannot create anything. We had Whites
coming here to colonize and build some sort of civillization, just to be destroyed by the
power of greedy. Zanu PF leadership has paid lip service to all the basic human right
principles our late families, Zanu, Zanala comrades and others fought so hard to achieve.
Democracy, freedom of speech and good governance are ideals that Mr Mnangagwa does
not hold in high regard. Why did our war veterans fought for, then? Ian Smith is laughing at
us in his grave reminding us, of his strong warnings that Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) of tomorrow
will just be left-over remnants from Rhodesia because under Mugabe-Mnangagwa black rule,
nothing will be built!
As much as Zimbabweans don’t want to admit it, it’s true Zimbabwe was better of under
white rule. The only downside with white rule was racial inequality and social injustices
which could have been corrected with time. I’m not saying white people are better than black
people but Zanu PF leadership which took over Zimbabwe after white rule is the one that
has led to the downfall of Zimbabwe. Right now the country has people with great ideas and
some even contributed to the liberation struggle but there are being arrested, imprisoned
and tortured for demanding accountability and a transparent system of governing. Everyone
is crying from war veterans, children and ordinary Zanu PF card carrying members.
Mnangagwa”s government is an example of everything that is wrong with post colonialism
hence the need for them to go in order for us to celebrate the dedication and sacrifice that
was made by our brothers and sisters. Happy Heroes day to our departed comrades but you
died for nothing besides enriching Mnangagwa, his friends and crooked Chivhayo.
Thank you

Arrested for Stabbing Sister’s Boyfriend

Masvingo, Zimbabwe – A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Masvingo for allegedly stabbing his sister’s boyfriend during a heated confrontation. The suspect, identified as Mkondisi Mandava, reportedly became violent after his sister’s boyfriend, Felix Sibanda, accused her of being unfaithful and threatened to assault her.

According to a police statement released on the social media platform X, the incident escalated quickly when Sibanda, 42, confronted Mandava’s sister with accusations of infidelity. The situation turned physical when Mandava intervened, attempting to defend his sister. The police reported that Mandava head-butted Sibanda on the forehead during the altercation, which further inflamed the situation.

As tensions escalated, Mandava allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Sibanda multiple times on the thighs. The assault left Sibanda with serious injuries, prompting immediate police involvement. Authorities were quick to apprehend Mandava following the attack.

The police statement highlighted the severity of the incident, noting that the violent outburst was sparked by the ongoing dispute between Sibanda and Mandava’s sister. The situation deteriorated after Sibanda not only accused his girlfriend of having an affair but also threatened to harm her, which seemingly provoked Mandava’s aggressive response.

Sibanda was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed, but authorities have confirmed that he is in stable condition. Mandava is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to the assault.

The police have urged the public to resolve domestic disputes through dialogue and to avoid resorting to violence. They emphasized the importance of seeking mediation in conflicts to prevent such incidents from occurring. The case is ongoing, and further details will be provided as the investigation continues.

Swimming Pool Flats in Mbare, ED Promises Soldiers 3,000 Housing Units

6 Years After Unfulfilled Swimming Pool Flats in Mbare, Mnangagwa Makes New Pledge of 3,000 Housing Units for Defence Forces

Harare, Zimbabwe – In a striking development that has raised eyebrows across the nation, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced plans to construct 3,000 housing units for members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF). This latest promise comes on the heels of a notorious unfulfilled pledge made six years ago, where Mnangagwa promised to build swimming pool-equipped flats in Mbare—a promise that never saw the light of day.

The President’s recent announcement, part of a broader initiative to improve the welfare of Defence Forces personnel, includes a range of non-monetary incentives such as Civil Service Housing Loans and Vehicle Purchase schemes. Additionally, the government has reportedly expanded the transport fleet for the Defence Forces, though details on the execution of these promises remain vague.

“An array of strategies are under way to improve the welfare of members of our Defence Forces,” Mnangagwa declared. “Over and above housing units that are ready for occupation, Government will soon be embarking on the construction of 3,000 housing units for members of the ZDF. This is part of the comprehensive programme by my Administration to increase affordable housing stock throughout the country.”

However, many Zimbabweans are skeptical, viewing this new pledge as yet another empty promise. The 2018 commitment to build modern flats in Mbare, complete with swimming pools, was met with widespread skepticism at the time and has since been branded as a blatant falsehood. Despite repeated assurances, the project never materialized, leaving many to question the authenticity of the government’s promises.

This latest announcement has been met with a mix of skepticism and frustration. Critics argue that the government’s track record of unfulfilled promises casts a long shadow over any new commitments, especially those involving significant infrastructure projects. For many, the pledge of 3,000 housing units for the Defence Forces feels like déjà vu—a grand promise likely to remain on paper rather than turn into reality.

As Zimbabweans wait to see if this latest promise will be fulfilled, the echoes of unbuilt swimming pool flats in Mbare serve as a stark reminder of the gap between political rhetoric and tangible results in the country’s current administration.

Zivhu Attacks “Useless” Old Leaders

By A Correspondent

Killer Zivhu, a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF party, has ignited a storm of controversy with his recent comments targeting aging leaders within the political sphere.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Zivhu criticized old leaders, labelling them as “disgraceful” and unfit for representing the country on the global stage.

Zivhu’s remarks highlight a growing sentiment that the country’s leadership may need a fresh perspective.

“Leadership matters! Sometimes we need a presentable representative to shine on the international stage, not someone who looks exhausted or like he is dying in a few hours,” Zivhu asserted in his post.

The comments have stirred significant backlash and debate within Zimbabwean politics.

Critics argue that Zivhu’s statements are not only disrespectful but also potentially divisive, exacerbating existing tensions within the ruling party.

Staunch supporters of the ruling party, meanwhile, view his comments as an unwarranted attack on experienced leaders who have navigated the country through numerous challenges.

Zivhu, known for his outspoken and often controversial views, has previously made headlines for his bold statements.

His latest remarks add to the growing discourse about the suitability of long-standing leaders and the potential need for generational change in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how Zivhu’s comments will affect his standing within the party and the broader political climate in Zimbabwe.

Your Excellencies, Members of the Diplomatic

Esteemed Traditional Leaders;
Fellow Zimbabweans, including our brothers and
sisters in the Diaspora;
Ladies and Gentlemen;
Comrades and Friends.

It is my great honour and privilege to address you
all at these 44th Heroes Day Commemorations.
Today, we are joining hands in remembering our
gallant fighters who paid the supreme sacrifice
to free our beautiful motherland from the grip of
colonial domination and subjugation.
Their extraordinary courage and the risks they
took so that we are Independent will always be
remembered. For, it was they who helped shape
our nation.
Even in the midst of neo-colonial machinations
and illegal sanctions imposed on us, let us honour
our heroes with a promise that their sacrifices
will serve as our light and inspiration. We vow to
resolutely protect the integrity of our Independence
and the interests of our nation against those who
wish us to fail.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
Our resilience is the bedrock of our survival as a
nation. As such, and against all odds, our economy
continues to register positive growth. This bears
testimony to the success of our diversification
thrust, as we forge ahead despite the illegal
sanctions, climate-induced shocks as well as
international commodity price fluctuations.

Through complementarity between fiscal
and monetary policies, we are determined to
consolidate the gains so far achieved from the
price stability brought about by the Zimbabwe
Gold (ZiG) currency.

documentation of liberation heritage narratives,
with special focus on the Kamungoma Massacre
Site in Gutu, Butcher Site in Rusape, and the
former Dzapasi Assembly Point in Buhera, among
others.

The Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle
Affairs is expected to increase the visibility and
awareness of their programmes, inclusive of the
benefits accruing to our veterans of the liberation
struggle as well as their dependents.

In addition, many injured War Victims should be
registered and compensated appropriately. The
majority of widows of our heroes are not aware
of their benefits, and some children are not in school and do not receive medical attention. We
are, therefore, running awareness campaigns
throughout the country, and requests for assistance
are being received.

Fellow Zimbabweans and Dear Comrades;
Our 44th Heroes Day commemorations are marking
a milestone in that we are conferring medals to
a total of 184 310 Veterans of the Liberation
Struggle who include 56 681 War Veterans; 7 839
Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees;
110 374 War Collaborators; and 9 990 NonCombatant Cadres. We will also confer honours
and awards to deserving persons as follows:

  • the Royal Order of Munhumutapa;
  • the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe;
  • the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe;
  • the Commendation Medal; and
  • the Independence Medal.

The conferment of medals on individuals who
exhibited valour and performed distinguished
humanitarian acts in various fields is intended
to immortalise and memorialise the actions of
the individuals. We are also honouring the Black
Umfolosi ensemble for their song “Unity” which
has stood the test of time. The song fosters unity
in recognition of the fact that we are one people
and one nation of Zimbabwe despite our diverse
geographical locations. From Plumtree to Mutare,
from Beitbridge to Chirundu, we are one people,
united by one national flag and one national
anthem.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Our democratic principles require sufficient
dissemination of the Constitution. It is pleasing
to note that Constitutional advocacy sessions
have now been conducted in all provinces of our
Motherland and cascaded to district level. In May
this year, Government conducted an induction and sensitisation workshop for all Chiefs on
their newly granted role as Marriage Officers.
The Chiefs now have authority to preside over
customary marriages and intervene in inheritance
issues, for the convenience of the general citizenry
in communities.

Our commitment to efficient service delivery is
unwavering. We are entrenching performance
contracting, and the exercise has been completed
at most of our top levels. The ultimate target is to
ensure value for money from all office bearers,
while enhancing accountability to the nation that
we all serve.

Over and above this, the Second Republic
recognises the important role and selfless sacrifices
being made by our patriotic civil service officials
towards the transformation of Zimbabwe into
an industrialising and knowledge-based upper
middle income country.

Fellow Zimbabweans;

Mnangagwa Rewards Sirizani Butau

ZiG Suffocates Businesses

By Business Reporter- Zimbabwe’s business community is grappling with a severe shortage of foreign currency in the formal market, threatening their ability to restock essential goods.

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has confirmed this development, warning of an impending shortage of essential commodities if the situation is not addressed.

CZI has called on authorities to assist manufacturers in accessing foreign currency through the Willing Buyer Willing Seller (WBWS) platform.

CZI CEO Sekai Kuvarika acknowledged that while some stability has been observed in the market, businesses are still finding it increasingly difficult to secure the forex needed to keep their operations running. She stated:

“This is a serious issue. Manufacturers are struggling to access forex, which is essential for their operations. We are in continuous dialogue with the monetary authorities to find a solution. Although there is some market stability, the inability to access forex remains a significant challenge, particularly for the importation of raw materials. As you know, Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector is highly import-dependent—over 70% in most cases.”
Kuvarika added that the CZI, the nation’s largest business lobby group, has engaged Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor John Mushayavanhu on the matter. She said:
“We have met with the Governor to discuss the accumulation of Zimbabwean dollars (ZiG) due to limited access to foreign currency for importing raw materials. From our discussions, it appears the RBZ is considering the law of averages, suggesting that manufacturers may have substantial US$ sales locally, potentially reducing their overall forex needs.”

Economic analyst Rufaro Zengeni criticized the current WBWS platform, arguing that it needs to be liberalized. He commented:
“There are contradictions in the current system. If the RBZ has fixed the exchange rate and people are not allowed to bid higher, this creates a shortage. Despite the scarcity of forex, prices haven’t moved in the past three months. This discrepancy indicates a fundamental problem with our price discovery mechanism.”
Economist Prosper Chitambara warned that the forex shortage on the official market is contributing to the devaluation of the ZiG and rising inflation. He explained:
“It seems there are not enough willing sellers of foreign exchange to meet the high demand from buyers. As a result, many businesses are turning to the parallel market for forex, leading to the depreciation of the ZiG. This is a clear example of the mismatch between forex demand and supply on the formal market.”
Another economist, Gift Mugano, revealed that some businesses are only securing a fraction of their forex requirements. He stated:
“Business executives have informed me that they are struggling to access forex from banks, with some only obtaining 5-10% of what they need, despite assurances from the RBZ. This high demand for US$ has caused exchange rates to surge, with rates now ranging between ZiG22.30/US$1 and ZiG24/US$1.”

ZimPF Statement On Heroes Day

Our heroes day is supposed to be an unforgettable celebration of courage, dedication and
heroism.

All Zimbabweans are expected to pay tribute to the extraordinary men and women
who made a lasting impact on our lives.

Unfortunately, their courage and dedication bared

Thank you

10,000 Confirmed For 17 August Anti-Mnangagwa Protest(s)

By Political Reporter- Organisers of the August 17 “Zimbabwe, Let’s Unite and Fix Our Country” protest said they had mobilised 10,000 people to partake in the protest.

A faction of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists aligned with Zimbabwe’s most popular opposition figure, Nelson Chamisa, is planning to stage mass protests.

Mnangagwa’s Tight Security Sparks Speculation About Insecurity Amid Zanu PF Infighting

By A Correspondent

On Monday, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s heightened security detail at the National Heroes Acre drew significant attention and speculation.

The presence of an unusually large contingent of around 100 bodyguards around Mnangagwa has fueled discussions about his sense of insecurity, reflecting the deepening factionalism within his party, Zanu PF.

Observers of Zimbabwean politics have noted that Mnangagwa’s decision to surround himself with such an extensive security force could be indicative of growing concerns over his safety and stability within the party.

The Zanu PF, which has been plagued by intense internal conflicts and power struggles, appears to be increasingly fractious, with various factions vying for influence and control.

The National Heroes Acre, a site of significant national importance, typically hosts high-profile ceremonies and is considered a symbolic location. Mnangagwa’s need for extensive protection at such an event raises questions about the level of threat he perceives from within his own party.

This development comes against a backdrop of ongoing power struggles in Zanu PF, which have seen prominent figures and factions clashing over the direction and leadership of the party. Mnangagwa’s decision to employ such a substantial security presence suggests a possible fear of physical or political attacks from rival factions seeking to undermine his position.

The increased security around Mnangagwa highlights the broader instability facing Zimbabwe’s political landscape. As the Zanu PF grapples with internal disputes, the President’s visible anxiety about his safety and position underscores the turbulent and uncertain nature of Zimbabwean politics.

In summary, Mnangagwa’s extensive security measures have prompted speculation about his security concerns and the growing intensity of factional infighting within Zanu PF.

The situation reflects the broader challenges facing Zimbabwe’s political environment, where internal strife and power struggles continue to shape the landscape.

Woman Dies Due to Delayed Medical Attention After Horrific Crash

By Gift Ostallos Siziba

I witnessed a devastating accident on Chinhoyi road, 40km from Harare, and stopped to help.

Despite calling an ambulance, it only arrived at Avondale, and Parirenyatwa Hospital delayed attending to her until we raised a fuss.

Tragically, she lost her life.

This is the consequence of a healthcare system in crisis.

Delayed emergency response times and inadequate medical care can be fatal.

But what’s even more tragic is that speaking out about these issues in Zimbabwe gets you labeled a “regime change agent” or “enemy of the state”.

Citizens can’t demand better without fear of persecution.

This is the reason why we fight! We do it for the benefit of our nation and the future of our children.

Zimbabwe independence
Not yet uhuru!
The fight is on!

Mnangagwa Rewards Children Who Saved Mother From Crocodile Attack But Who Will Save Zim From Garwe Attack?

By A Correspondent

On Monday, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is colloquially known as “Ngwena” (crocodile) in political circles, honored two young siblings for their extraordinary bravery.

Peace and Luckmore Magaya, hailing from Mhondoro in Mashonaland West province, were celebrated for rescuing their mother from a crocodile attack earlier this year.

This gesture of recognition highlights their heroism and brings them to the forefront of national pride.

According to state media reports, President Mnangagwa commended the Magaya siblings for their courage in a dramatic and dangerous situation.

“The 2 young ones were recognized as Heroes by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

These two courageous siblings, Peace and Luckmore Magaya of Mhondoro, Mashonaland West province, rescued their mother from the jaws of a crocodile in January this year. The President has honoured them for their bravery, ” State media reported.

The young heroes’ quick thinking and bravery saved their mother from what could have been a tragic outcome, making their story a poignant symbol of resilience and family solidarity.

Yet, as Zimbabwe celebrates the Magaya siblings’ heroics, the nation finds itself in a paradoxical situation.

While honoring local bravery is commendable, the broader political context casts a shadow over these commendations.

Analysts argue that the real challenge lies in addressing the political “crocodile”—a metaphor for Mnangagwa’s own administration—which many believe has been a source of suffering for the country.

Critics point out that while the President’s actions are praiseworthy on an individual level, they do little to alleviate the systemic issues plaguing Zimbabwe.

The term “Ngwena,” once a symbol of strength and political maneuvering, has become synonymous with controversy and discontent. The call for change in Zimbabwe extends beyond symbolic gestures and requires a substantive shift in governance and policy.

In this context, the bravery of Peace and Luckmore Magaya serves as a powerful reminder of the spirit and resilience of ordinary Zimbabweans. However, it also underscores the urgent need for effective leadership and reform to address the systemic challenges facing the nation. The question remains: while the Magaya siblings have heroically battled a crocodile, who will confront and remedy the entrenched issues represented by the political “crocodile” of Zimbabwe?

Zivhu Mocks Old, Tired Leaders

Chamisa Aides Announce 17 August Mass Protests

How to Make Your First Deposit in Sports Betting: A Beginner’s Guide

If you’re new to sports betting, a first deposit bonus can help you get started. These bonuses are usually a percentage of the amount you invest, and they’re designed to attract new players and increase revenue for sportsbooks.

The most common type of sportsbook sign-up bonus is a deposit match. These offers typically come with a minimum deposit and a certain value of site credits that you must wager before they expire.

Sign-up bonuses

Sign-up bonuses in sports betting are promotions that operators provide new customers to encourage them to make wagers on their sites. These bonuses typically include free bets or deposit match offers. Some sportsbooks also offer a rebate of a portion of the losses on some bets. The size of these bonuses varies, but they can be worth up to 5% of the amount that a player wagers on a particular event.

The types of sign-up bonuses offered in the world of online sports betting vary from site to site, but most follow similar steps. The most common method for claiming these promotional offers is to enter a special promo code, which is normally available with just a click of a button. Other requirements are sometimes attached to these promotional offers, such as playthrough requirements or minimum bets, and they often have an expiry date.

Most sportsbooks will only give out a new customer offer once to any individual, and this is one of the main reasons why it’s important to read the terms and conditions carefully before claiming a bonus. It’s also a good idea to check whether a bonus is applicable only to your first bet, or if it can be used on any subsequent bets you make on the same account.

Another way in which sportsbooks try to lure new customers is by offering a referral bonus. These are often in the form of free bets, but they can also involve cash rewards and additional bet credits. They are effective tools for attracting new players and promoting loyalty among existing ones.

Whether these sign-up bonuses are worth taking depends on the value they bring to your betting experience, and the way in which they are delivered. For example, some sites like bet365 will credit your account with bonus money which can then be turned into real money if you meet certain rollover requirements. Other sites may prefer to credit your account with bet credits, which can only be converted into real money if you earn a profit from winning bets and meet the minimum turnover requirement.

The best sportsbook sign-up bonuses will give you a chance to try out the site before committing to any bets. This is an excellent way to determine which site is right for you. However, it’s important to remember that these bonuses are not a guarantee that you will enjoy your betting experience with that site. The fact is, different sportsbooks cater to different types of bettors. So, if you find one that doesn’t suit your needs, there is always the option of signing up for a new account with another sportsbook.

Deposit bonuses

Sportsbooks offer a variety of deposit bonuses to entice new customers. Bonuses can include free bet credits, second-chance bets, and match-up bonuses. Each bonus comes with its own set of terms and conditions. Understanding these terms can be difficult, especially since many sportsbooks use complex jargon to obscure their terms and conditions. It’s important to read these terms and conditions carefully before making a wager.

Generally speaking, the best sports betting signup bonuses are offered by sportsbooks that offer competitive odds and strong promotions. FanDuel, which was born out of the daily fantasy sports craze, has one of the strongest sportsbooks on the market and offers an excellent user experience. FanDuel also offers a wide range of sports betting signup bonuses and deposit matches, as well as reload bonus codes and odds boost tokens.

Deposit bonuses reward new bettors based on the size of their initial deposit. These can be in the form of a flat amount of site credits or percentages of an initial bet up to an advertised value. Many of these promotions come with a playthrough requirement, meaning that bettors must place certain amounts of wagers before the bonus is available for withdrawal.

Bonuses also exist to reward existing users for bringing in new business. Referral bonuses are a popular example of this. Oftentimes, sportsbooks will give existing players unique codes that they can share with friends and family to earn bonus bet credits when those friends make their first bet.

Aside from the more eye-catching deposit bonuses, many sportsbooks offer ongoing promotions as well. These can be a great way to keep existing customers happy and boost their bankrolls. These are often offered in conjunction with sporting events, and can be found on sportsbook homepages or through special landing pages.

During the Super Bowl, for instance, DraftKings ran a fantastic “Bet $5, Get $280” promotion to attract new NBA fans. Similarly, Caesars offered Super Bowl betting bonuses whereby anyone that placed 10 prop bets won a bonus bet. These bonuses are a good way to test out various sportsbooks without having to risk your own money.

Zimbabwean Businesswoman Accused of Fraud In UAE

By A Correspondent

Dr. Gallie Kawanzaruwa, a Zimbabwean businesswoman based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is facing serious allegations of financial misconduct and exploitation.

Kawanzaruwa, who owns Royal Elite LLC—a company specializing in educational, cultural, and sporting events—stands accused of duping her employees and engaging in fraudulent activities.

Reports indicate that disgruntled employees are owed significant sums in unpaid salaries.

According to sources within the company, employees were promised fair compensation for their work but have since been left without payment.

One employee recounted being recruited through a friend, traveling to the UAE for an interview, and subsequently being hired.

The employee was tasked with various assignments, including setting up educational tours and facilitating sporting events.

According to company sources, disgruntled employees are owed thousands of dollars in unpaid salaries.

“I was referred to the company by a friend and decided to apply for a job. I was then called to UAE for an interview after which I was told I had been successful.I was asked to travel to Africa for exploration of which I managed to execute the tasks that I had been. She send me to various sporting companies across the world.

Kawanzaruwa then asked me to bring schools to Dubai for educational tours. I convinced Erry Maple International School staff to take up the Dubai trip, “said one employee.

One employee was only paid for one month and is owed thousands.

Royal Mabika and Maramba her driver are also owed money and she is harassing them.

Kawanzaruwa also seized a USD 3,5 million deal in Zambia that had been facilitated by her employee.

She grabbed the deal and imposed herself on the Zambian government.

Kawanzaruwa is exploitative, she hired thugs to torment her driver. She is also saying all sorts of bad things about the employees who are determined to get their outstanding salaries. “

Despite fulfilling these duties, they were reportedly paid for only one month, with numerous salary arrears remaining.

Further complicating the situation, it is alleged that Kawanzaruwa operates Hatfield Elite School without remitting taxes to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).

The situation is exacerbated by claims of harassment.

Kawanzaruwa is accused of employing intimidation tactics against her driver, Maramba and another employee, Royal Mabika, and hiring thugs to exert pressure.

She is also alleged to have spread negative information about employees who are seeking their due payments.

Efforts to reach Dr. Kawanzaruwa for her response to these allegations have been unsuccessful thus far. As the situation develops, there is a growing concern over the welfare of those affected and the integrity of the business operations under her control.

SA Health Minister Rips Into Zimbabwe Over Dilapidated Health System

By A Correspondent| South Africa’s Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, has sharply criticized Zimbabwe for its failing health system, which has led to an influx of patients into South African hospitals. Over the years, Zimbabwe’s public healthcare has severely deteriorated, struggling to supply even basic medications like painkillers, while the government diverts funds to other sectors.

Motsoaledi, who took office on July 4, drew an analogy, comparing some African leaders to a father who sends his children to eat at a neighbor’s house without consulting the neighbor. He expressed these sentiments during an African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee Lekgotla in Benoni last week.

He pointed out the unfairness of the situation, sharing an incident where a Zimbabwean general practitioner sent a stage 4 cancer patient to South Africa with a note requesting a pint of blood. “Blood is not manufactured; it comes from people,” he said, emphasizing that Zimbabwe could instead seek help from South Africa to organize blood donations within their own country.

Motsoaledi’s comments echo concerns previously raised by Phophi Ramathuba, the former Limpopo province Health Member of the Executive Council (MEC), who criticized the Zimbabwean government for overburdening South Africa’s health system. Ramathuba was recently elected as the first female Premier of Limpopo.

The ongoing migration of Zimbabweans seeking healthcare in South Africa, particularly in the Limpopo province, highlights the dire state of Zimbabwe’s health sector. Motsoaledi noted that African leaders often neglect their own health systems, preferring to seek treatment abroad—a practice he urged to end.

This issue was exemplified by the late former President Robert Mugabe, who frequently traveled to Asia for medical treatment, eventually passing away in Singapore in September 2019. Critics attribute Zimbabwe’s healthcare decline to chronic underfunding, leading to a mass exodus of skilled professionals in search of better opportunities abroad, while development partners attempt to fill the gaps in the system.

Troublesome Army Commander’s Wife Faces Backlash For Interfering In Nyanga Chieftainship Wrangle

By A Correspondent| Chido Sanyatwe, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage and the Zanu-PF legislator for Nyanga North, is facing backlash for introducing Alexio Chinongwa Nyamhute as a traditional leader, despite a recent High Court ruling that invalidated his appointment as Chief Katerere.

Sanyatwe introduced Nyamhute during the official opening of a classroom block at Samanyika Primary School in her constituency, sparking criticism.

Opponents accuse Sanyatwe of trying to influence the chieftainship dispute to extend her control over the Nyanga district.

Nyamhute had been appointed as Chief Katerere in 2023 following the previous chief’s death, but his appointment was contested in court for violating traditional succession practices that involve consultation with spirit mediums.

Despite the court’s ruling against his appointment, Sanyatwe is alleged to have acknowledged Nyamhute as the rightful chief.

In response, Sanyatwe denied these allegations, asserting that she was unaware of the court ruling at the time of the event and did not officially recognize anyone as chief during the ceremony. She stressed that she had no intention of meddling in the chieftainship matters of her constituency.

The High Court, under the leadership of Justice Isaac Muzenda, declared Nyamhute’s appointment unlawful and ordered it to be annulled.

The court highlighted that the traditional role of spirit mediums in the succession process for Chief Katerere had been overlooked and called for a new selection process to be conducted by the Provincial Chiefs’ Assembly, with recommendations to be submitted to the President for a final decision.

Mnangagwa Challenger Haunted By CIOs Ahead Of SADC Summit

By A Correspondent| Sybeth Musengezi, a former Zanu-PF activist known for challenging the legitimacy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascent to power, has reported that unidentified individuals recently visited his home.

Musengezi filed a legal challenge in October 2021, disputing the processes used by the Zanu-PF central committee to appoint Mnangagwa as acting president following the military coup in November 2017 that removed Robert Mugabe from office. The case is still pending in court.

Recently, a group of armed men, claiming to be from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), visited Musengezi’s residence and demanded to see him. Musengezi was not home at the time.

In response, Ncube Attorneys, representing Musengezi, have written to the police seeking confirmation of whether these men were legitimate officers. They have requested a meeting on August 23, 2024, to clarify the matter. Musengezi’s lawyer, Nqobani Sithole, has stated that they are willing to cooperate with the police if the visitors were indeed CID officers, but they have yet to receive any official response.

Zambia Pulls Out As Diplomatic Tension Escalates

By A Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has swiftly organized a squad to face the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) select team on Tuesday at Rufaro Stadium after the Zambia Defence Forces withdrew from the originally scheduled match. This development follows ongoing diplomatic tensions between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

On Monday, ZIFA revealed a 21-man squad composed of players from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. The team will be managed by technical director Jethro Hunidzarira, who is stepping in for the newly appointed Warriors coach, Michael Nees.

The Zambia Defence Forces were initially set to play against their Zimbabwean counterparts as part of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces celebrations. However, their withdrawal is believed to be connected to escalating diplomatic strain between Harare and Lusaka. In June, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa accused Zambia of aligning with Western powers by permitting the United States to establish military bases within its borders, a move he argued endangered Zimbabwe’s security and left him feeling isolated.

In response, Zambia filed a complaint with the African Union and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to address the diplomatic dispute. Despite the rising tensions, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Jenfan Muswere, had earlier confirmed that the Zambia Defence Forces would be participating in the celebrations, including the football match at Rufaro Stadium.

Mnangagwa Says Zimbabwe’s Experiencing Unstoppable Economic Growth

Rebuttal: The Economic Reality Under Mnangagwa’s Rule

By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently claimed that Zimbabwe’s economy is on an unstoppable path to recovery, attributing this to his government’s strategic initiatives and resilience in the face of adversity. However, a closer examination reveals a far different reality. Zimbabwe’s economy remains in a deep crisis, one that many argue will never recover as long as Mnangagwa remains in power. The economic collapse is inextricably linked to his rise to power through military coups, electoral manipulation, and the resulting erosion of trust in the country’s leadership.

Since the ousting of Robert Mugabe in 2017, Mnangagwa’s tenure has been marred by a series of military interventions that have not only undermined democracy but also shattered investor confidence. The first coup, which removed Mugabe, was a turning point for Zimbabwe. While many hoped for a new dawn, it quickly became clear that Mnangagwa’s rise was not a transition to democracy but rather a consolidation of power by the military elite.

This was followed by the disputed 2018 elections, where Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the opposition MDC Alliance, was seen as the legitimate winner. However, in a move that shocked the nation and the world, the Zimbabwean military intervened to alter the election results in favor of Mnangagwa. This intervention was even broadcasted on state television, ZBC, which aired military officials discussing the alteration of the election outcomes. The international community, including the United Nations and various human rights organizations, condemned these actions, but no substantial reforms followed.

In 2023, history repeated itself when the military once again played a pivotal role in preventing Chamisa from claiming victory. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) openly criticized the elections, highlighting the irregularities and military involvement. The SADC’s observer mission reported that the elections did not meet the regional standards for free and fair elections, further delegitimizing Mnangagwa’s presidency.

Economic Collapse: The Cost of Illegitimacy

The consequences of Mnangagwa’s illegitimate rule have been dire for Zimbabwe’s economy. Since 2017, the country has seen an unprecedented economic decline, with hyperinflation reaching levels not seen since the 2008 crisis. According to the World Bank, Zimbabwe’s inflation rate soared to over 600% in 2023, eroding the value of the Zimbabwean dollar and plunging millions into poverty. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has repeatedly warned that without significant political reforms, Zimbabwe’s economy is unlikely to recover.

Investors have also fled the country in droves, fearing the instability that comes with a government propped up by military force rather than democratic legitimacy. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has plummeted, with figures from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) showing a 35% decrease in FDI inflows between 2018 and 2022. The lack of trust in Zimbabwe’s governance is a major factor, as businesses are unwilling to invest in a country where the rule of law is undermined by military interventions.

A Market Without Confidence

Markets thrive on stability and the rule of law, both of which are conspicuously absent under Mnangagwa’s regime. The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) has been volatile, reflecting the uncertainty that permeates the economy. The Zimbabwean dollar, reintroduced in 2019, has rapidly depreciated, with black market exchange rates often double the official rates. This has further fueled inflation and eroded savings, leaving ordinary Zimbabweans struggling to afford basic necessities.

Economists have repeatedly pointed out that as long as Zimbabwe is led by a president whose legitimacy is in question, the economy will continue to flounder. Dr. John Robertson, a leading Zimbabwean economist, has stated, “No serious investor will put money into a country where the leadership can change overnight through military intervention. The risks are simply too high, and without investment, there can be no recovery.”

The Call for Change

The international community, particularly the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU), have a critical role to play in addressing the crisis in Zimbabwe. The continued military involvement in politics is not only a threat to Zimbabwe’s economy but also to regional stability. The recent condemnation of the 2023 elections by SADC is a positive step, but more needs to be done to ensure that Zimbabwe returns to democratic governance.

Zimbabweans are calling for genuine political reforms and the restoration of democratic principles. Only through such reforms can the country hope to rebuild its economy. Until Mnangagwa steps down or is removed through a legitimate democratic process, Zimbabwe’s economy will remain in a state of perpetual crisis, and the dream of recovery will remain out of reach.

While Mnangagwa speaks of unstoppable economic growth, the reality on the ground is one of economic collapse, driven by illegitimate rule and military interference. The markets, and indeed the people of Zimbabwe, will never trust or invest in a government that has come to power through such undemocratic means. For Zimbabwe’s economy to recover, a new chapter must begin—one that is rooted in democracy, the rule of law, and genuine leadership change.

Marketing your company to knew customers

By Dr Banabasi Marambire

Food For Thought;

You must know how to sell your company in order to win business. Especially when penetrating knew markets. You need to know your story.

Recently, I was in Lesotho Pitching for business to a big client. These were people who had never dealt with us, and our duty was to convince them that we were the right company for the job.

In this setup, your first 3 minutes of the meeting are very crucial. It will determine how long the meeting will last and also the outcome of the meeting. This first stage of the meeting is always categorised by questions. Answer the questions as brief as you can and don’t lie. Don’t stammer or give too much information than requested.

Listen, be careful, and don’t rush to respond. Don’t interrupt when your client is still speaking. Always answer in a very respectful manner even when the question asked is provoking.

The things that you should avoid are;
1). Try to prove that you know famous people such as politicians or other popular business people. A lot of people mess up by trying to reveal that they know people in the higher offices. Knowing people in the higher offices might be regarded as a corrupt attitude. Invest your time in revealing how much you know your product and how competitive you are in the market. Show the client that you are the best choice among others.

2). Don’t show off and behave like you know better than the client. Don’t impose your ideas on the client. Always ask questions and give solutions to the problems that the client is facing. Only review your previous deals when necessary as a way of giving confidence.

3). Share your experience and the advantage of your product or services in the market. Don’t talk bad about your competitors or other products. You don’t accelerate your product by talking bad about other products or services.

There is a video that once circulated on social media of a great man who was trying to strike a deal, but he messed up by mentioning big names, heeee I know this, heee I can call the president, heeeee I have link to this one and that one. Big people are not happy when they find out that you are using their names to get mileage. Ride on your own experience. If you doubt your own experience to be enough, then the other person will not be convinced of your services.

The most important fact is to know your story. Tell it in a convincing manner such that the other person can easily buy your story. Don’t exaggerate your presentation. Be real and correct.

A Survivor’s Tale: Remembering the Horrors of Nyadzonia

As Narrated to
Ilyana Sithole and Dr. Masimba Mavaza

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | It has been 48 years since the tragic day of August 9, 1976, when the Nyadzonia refugee camp in Mozambique was brutally attacked by Rhodesian forces, resulting in the deaths of over a thousand innocent civilians. Among the survivors of this horrific event is Honourable Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, who was known by her war name, “Chido Chimurenga.”

Monica Mutsvangwa…

Now 63 years old, Mutsvangwa vividly recalls the events of that day, her voice carrying a mix of sorrow and resilience as she recounts the harrowing experience.

“Nyathi akaurayisa macomrade, nguva dzese tiri munhamo, tinongoshupika, tichingochema, tichingomuchera, shamwari rega kudaro,” she sings, her eyes reflecting the deep pain of that fateful day.

Nyadzonia had become a refuge for Zimbabweans (then known as Rhodesians) fleeing the war. On that day, the camp housed a diverse population—children, nursing mothers, women, and the elderly—all seeking safety from the war-torn zones.

Mutsvangwa, then a young woman, had left Form 3 at Mutambara High School with her friends Winnet Mupita, Sophia Munakandafa, and the late Veronica Chigumira to join the liberation struggle. She recalls arriving at Nyadzonia, a camp where Zimbabwean refugees were housed. The conditions at the camp were appalling. Food was scarce, and during the first few days, they went without eating.

Competition for food, water, shelter, and other basic necessities was fierce. Violence, though already rampant, took on even more abhorrent forms in these camps. Upon her arrival, Mutsvangwa had two dresses, both of which were taken by other comrades who had no clothes. As she searches her memory, she recalls being served sadza with soy milk, which at times resembled nothing more than colored water. They had to be strong and eat, or they would starve to death. Despite thoughts of returning home, the desire for freedom compelled them to persevere.

As mentioned earlier, this camp was a haven for people forcibly displaced or fleeing from their homes due to war, conflict, or the fear of persecution. These individuals sought safety in other countries. At Nyadzonia, there were over five thousand people. It was estimated that by the end of 1978, there were over two million refugees worldwide, all from Zimbabwe. While refugees seek safety and protection in other countries, it can be a long, difficult, and dangerous journey before they find a permanent place to call home. They were united by the shared goal of training to become freedom fighters.

The journey to Mozambique was challenging. They did not know where Mozambique was, only that it lay to the east, so they traveled eastward, terrified of being captured or killed by Rhodesian forces. Along the way, many were captured, tortured, or killed. Some ended up living in refugee camps, temporary settlements providing basic necessities to those awaiting training. Despite having escaped their home country, refugees in these camps faced significant risks.

Life in a Refugee Camp

Living in a refugee camp was a step toward finding a new place to live and achieving freedom, but it also came with its own challenges. One major problem at Nyadzonia was overcrowding. The camp housed thousands of people in close quarters, making it easier for diseases to spread and creating a hazardous situation in case of an emergency. Overcrowding also contributed to many other issues refugees faced when Nyadzonia was attacked. Supplies and appropriate facilities were insufficient. They had to cut grass to build their own camp houses, with grass beds and sometimes only one blanket. Some slept without blankets, and mosquitoes feasted on them. Zvaive zvakaoma.

Sanitation and hygiene were enforced but difficult to maintain. Nyadzonia also suffered from sanitation and hygiene issues due to a lack of clean water and cleaning supplies. This allowed illnesses and diseases to spread easily through the entire population. People were unable to properly clean themselves, wash cooking supplies, or sanitize areas effectively. This was especially serious for girls.

One of the primary issues in refugee camps was the lack of clean water. Without clean water for proper sanitation, refugees were at risk of dehydration and illnesses from consuming contaminated water. They had to rely on river water.

Food safety was also a concern. The nature of refugee camps did not lend itself to proper cooking and food storage. Without reliable power sources to keep food adequately cooled or warmed, people were forced to risk eating what they had available, leading to foodborne illnesses and other health issues.

Limited medical care was another danger faced by refugees in camps. The harsh living conditions often worsened health problems, leading to death in some cases. Mutsvangwa lost many comrades to illness.

“But as the war would have it planned for us, I remember the horrible events of August 9th,” Mutsvangwa recalls. She remembers sitting on the ground, one of her tennis shoes wedged under the dress she had washed and was drying. She was with her comrades.

“As we sat there, we heard the sound of vehicles approaching the camp. People stood up, rejoicing, thinking they were being taken to training camps in Chimoio, Tete, Tanzania, or China,” Mutsvangwa recounts. “But it was not to be. The vehicles were not there to transport us to training grounds. Instead, Nyathi and the Selous Scouts, disguised as Frelimo soldiers, had come to ambush the unsuspecting refugees.”

Having been at the camp for less than a year, Mutsvangwa saw no need to approach the vehicles. Her turn to go for training had not yet come.

Mutsvangwa remained seated, skeptical of the situation, while her friend Veronica rushed toward the vehicles, only to be met with a hail of bullets as the enemy opened fire on the camp.

“I had never heard the sound of gunshots or bombings before, and I had no idea how to protect myself. We started running in every direction, trying to find somewhere to hide, but the bullets were raining down on us. I saw people in front of me and on the sides being shot and dropping dead. It was a gruesome sight—I even saw a head detach from a body. I have visions of the headless body running, only for the lifeless form to collapse to the ground after a few meters,” Mutsvangwa recounts, her voice trembling with emotion.

The survivors fled to the Nyadzonia River, where Cde. Casablanca arrived to help those who could not swim across to safety. They continued their journey, reaching the Pungwe River, which was larger and more treacherous than Nyadzonia. Some comrades tried to fashion makeshift ropes and planks to help them cross, but the waves were too strong, and many of their own were swept away.

“We walked for a day and a half without food until we finally met up with the people of Zhunda. They gave us oranges, and I remember we shared one orange among 15 of us. That day, I learned the true meaning of love and unity,” Mutsvangwa said.

The group eventually reached Zhunda and later established the Doiroi camp from scratch. A platoon was sent back to the massacre site, where Cde. Pfepferere counted the bodies and buried the dead.

The leaders instructed Cde. Pfepferere to ensure that the dead were honorably interred, if possible, according to the rites of the religion to which the deceased belonged. They were to ensure respect for the graves, group them by units if possible, and maintain and mark them. It was a somber moment.

Since the massacre at Nyadzonia, there have been various accounts of what was done, or not done, with the bodies of the dead. Like us, past societies had cultural traditions or spiritual beliefs about the proper treatment of war dead. Some form of disposal in accordance with societal conventions, such as interment or cremation, was generally an important part of these customs. Respect for the dead, identification of remains, and repatriation of bodies are values we share with past peoples.

Now, as Mutsvangwa reflects on that fateful day, she is grateful to God for sparing her life. She also learned that the man known as Nyathi, who led the attack, was actually Levi Mutasa, a traitor who had sold out innocent souls for his own personal gain.

“The bloodshed at Nyadzonia must not go to waste,” Mutsvangwa says. “We must safeguard the freedom that was won through the sacrifices of so many. We owe it to those who lost their lives to ensure that their deaths were not in vain.”

Mnangagwa Bootlickers Snub Chiwenga

By Political Reporter-Top Zanu PF, officials and heads of government departments are avoiding Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, fearing backlash from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The latest to do so was Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, who last week invited Vice President Kembo Mohadi to commission 450 police vehicles.

Sources within ZRP headquarters revealed that the original invitation was intended for Chiwenga, but Matanga altered it due to concerns over the ongoing power struggles within Zanu PF.

“Everyone in government is increasingly uncomfortable associating with Chiwenga because of the power tussles in Zanu PF. Associating with him now comes at a significant risk,” the source explained.

Chiwenga has notably refrained from endorsing Mnangagwa’s 2030 campaign, which initially gained momentum through the party’s Youth League and has since spread to all provinces.

During a party rally last week, the Vice President openly expressed his opposition to Mnangagwa’s 2030 campaign and cautioned party members against advocating for the president’s continued rule.

Mutsvangwa Ndewemakuhwa: Mzembi

By A Correspondent

Former Tourism Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi has raised serious allegations against Chris Mutsvangwa, claiming that Mutsvangwa is conspiring to oust President Emmerson Mnangagwa from office. Mzembi’s comments, made over the weekend, have sparked significant debate within political circles.

Mzembi described Mutsvangwa as a “charlatan,” noting that he has been dismissed as a Cabinet Minister by both former President Robert Mugabe and Mnangagwa himself. According to Mzembi, Mutsvangwa is not a cooperative team member but rather a disruptive force within the ruling party.

He accused Mutsvangwa of employing tactics that create discord and undermine unity among party members, suggesting that his actions are driven by a penchant for gossip and seeking to create division.

This assertion adds to the already tense political climate in Zimbabwe, where internal party conflicts and leadership challenges are common. Mzembi’s remarks could further exacerbate existing tensions and contribute to the ongoing scrutiny of Mutsvangwa’s political maneuvering.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on how both Mnangagwa and Mutsvangwa respond to these accusations and the impact they may have on Zimbabwe’s political landscape.

Come Back to Zanu PF, Dexter Nduna Appeals to Kasukuwere and Mzembi

Zanu PF official Dexter Nduna has made a subtle appeal to former party officials Saviour Kasukuwere and Engineer Walter Mzembi to consider returning to the party.

In a post on X, Nduna wrote:

“Maybe you comrades need to find common ground.

Mnangagwa Aide Jailed

By Political Reporter- A Masvingo Magistrate, Franklin Mkwananzi, has sentenced the violent Zanu PF, Masvingo provincial youth chairman Delight Mandebvu to two years.

Mandebvu was convicted and convicted of assault; the charges arose after he assaulted former Masvingo Mayor and lawyer Collen Maboke, his wife and a relative after their vehicle sideswiped along Masvingo Mutare Highway.

Magistrate Mkwananzi suspended the whole custodial sentence after considering that the accused suffered a broken leg during the melee.

Mandebvu will go to jail if he commits any offence with violence in the next five years.

Mandebvu’s left foot was run over by a vehicle as he was assaulting the trio. Medical reports showed that the foot is permanently damaged.
Mandebvu was convicted after the court concluded that his defense had loopholes and that it did not make sense for Maboke to run him over after a small misunderstanding following the side swap.
Maboke, his wife Tariro and relative Simbarashe Matyei’s statements corroborated and were consistent with the injuries recorded on their medical reports.
The incident happened on March 2, 2024, at the 45km peg along the Masvingo – Bikita road at night. Maboke’s vehicle was being driven by his wife. After sideswiping, Mandebvu made a U-turn, pursued Maboke’s vehicle and blocked it after 10km.
Mandebvu disembarked from the vehicle accompanied by several men, and they assaulted Maboke, his wife and Matyei who was allegedly struck with a bottle in the face.

Security First: Protecting Your Data in the World of Mobile Applications

Indeed, the use of mobile apps cannot be underestimated, especially given that the world is going digital at a very fast pace. They are widely used in such aspects of life as banking or entertainment. However, with such convenience comes a lot of danger. It is even more important to guard your data as much as possible. Let us take a look at these threats in this article and why it is crucial to keep your apps updated.

Mobile App Security Threats Awareness

For instance, there is the MelBet app download for Android. However, it is especially widespread in betting, and if security measures are not taken, then users can face certain dangers. This can go a long way in protecting your data as the app is from a believable source and has good reviews. It is also important to be vigilant of the permissions an app demands, as many of them that demand too many permissions are usually a con.

There are many security threats that could be associated with the use of mobile applications. Due to the vulnerability of the applications, hackers are likely to breach the applications with a view of extracting sensitive information. One of the main threats is malware that can be embedded in apps and take your data. The fourth threat is that the connection can be unsafe, and your data can be stolen.

Importance of Regular Updates

Fortifying the applications is one way of maintaining their security, such as updating them. Updates also contain remedies for security flaws, such as bug fixes. Here are some reasons why updates are crucial:

  • Bug Fixes: Updates fix issues that are well-known to hackers and could be utilized by them.
  • New Features: Updates may include new security features for protecting your data.
  • Improved Performance: This usually provides an enhanced way of running the app with better security.
  • Compatibility: Updates guarantee that the given apps are compatible with the newest operating systems.

Ignoring updates means your device can be at risk of threats, and you can easily fall prey to them. Users should get into the habit of frequently visiting the software’s website for updates and installing them as soon as possible to maximize the software’s security.

Secure Your Mobile Device

It is crucial to guard your portable equipment in order to avoid losing your valuable data. Security does not have to be complicated in order to be effective, and improving it is as easy as following a few steps. By following these tips, you will be safe from many of the threats out there in the world today.

Choose Good Passwords and Implement the Biometric Authentication

One of the best practices is to come up with strong passwords since it helps in securing your device. It is recommended that a strong password should contain combined letters, numbers special characters. Do not use weak passwords like “123456” or “password. ” It is also wise to change your password frequently to avoid having multiple people know your password.

More security is provided by such methods as fingerprints, or facial recognition for entering the system. This makes the method quite strong, as hackers are likely to have a hard time emulating it. Integrating powerful passwords with biometric solutions forms a protective wall that cannot be breached easily by an unauthorized person.

Enable Encryption

Encryption is another critical aspect of security measures that must be put in place. It anonymises your data so that any person who tries to read it cannot understand anything if he or she does not know the decryption code. Encrypting your device ensures the security of such information as financial data and personal messages.

In most of today’s devices, encryption features are already incorporated. Make sure this feature is active in all options. Encrypting files helps to enhance the security layer; your files will be protected in case you misplace your device, or it gets stolen.

Managing Your Applications: Be Careful with App Permissions

Whenever you download an app, it comes with a prompt requesting several permissions. These are some of the requests that may be important, while others may not be. It is also important not to be too permission-orientated since this can also help save your information. Just like with any other application, it is always important to monitor what the app requires and whether or not the requirement makes sense in the general functionality of the app.

Consider these tips:

  • Read the Permissions: Know what rights the app wants on your device.
  • Limit Access: Do not request permissions that are not necessary to be used by the application.
  • Review Regularly: From time to time, review app permissions and make necessary changes to them.

Therefore, it is advisable to avoid granting application permissions, which pose a high risk of data exposure.

Utilise Security Software

One can use security software on the mobile device as a way of protecting his or her data. Security apps are capable of doing a virus scan, prevent any unauthorized access and give protection in real time.

For instance, the anti-virus assists in identifying and eradicating viruses before they can bring destruction. Also, security apps may include such options as safe browsing, which informs a user about potentially unsafe sites. Maintaining the security software up-to-date helps you have the latest shields against new threats.

Purchasing good security software is a wise measure that provides additional protection against hackers.

Final Words

Protecting your data on mobile apps is very important in today’s society. Learning threats, using passwords, enabling encryption, being careful with the permissions, and using security programs will help to protect personal data. The mobile experience can be safer if security is made a priority and one stays alert.

ZimPF Condemns Zanu PF Barbarism

09 August 2024

PRESS STATEMENT
The Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) condemns the tyrannical behavior of Zimbabwe
government, lead by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and we are asking him to
stop denying citizens their fundamental rights just to please SADC.
Our Prisons are full of Political Prisoners being denied bail on frivolous and
malicious charges. It is clear that the Unconstitutional appointment of Chief Justice
Malaba by President Mnangagwa, was made in order to undermine the
independence of the judiciary, instill fear and threaten citizen’s rights.
The targeting of civil society, arresting of political activist, torturing of innocent
citizens and severe restrictions on political activity have stifled fundamental
freedoms, while the likes of Mike Chimombe, Wicknell Chivayo and others, including
government leaders, are siphoning public resources for personal gains through
goat schemes.
As ZimPF we are concerned and unhappy that to silence the dissenting voices and to
stamp out possible demonstrations violence, torture, and abductions seem to be
the only options deployed. Zimbabwe is going through difficult political and socio-
economic conditions. Civil society actors fill in important gaps in supporting
communities enjoy basic rights through provision of humanitarian support and
empowering communities for civic engagement and participating in democratic
processes. Safeguarding the civic space is essential for Civil Society Organizations
(CSOs) to organize, participate and communicate without hindrance.
We demand that the government of Zimbabwe, by exercise their rights responsibly,
stop harassment of citizens, and we call for a restraint of torturing innocent
activists.
