However, evidence clearly shows that Chin’ono’s account of his financial success is riddled with inconsistencies. Despite his claims of legitimate business dealings, including a more recent assertion that he made his fortune selling cellphones between 2003 and 2006, he has consistently failed to disclose the name of the UK institution that granted him such a substantial credit at such a young age. This glaring omission has raised serious questions about the legality of his early wealth.

During a revealing interview with the esteemed investigative journalist Geoff Nyarota in 2021, Chin’ono notably avoided answering questions about the origins of his money—a tactic that only confirmed suspicions about his illicit financial activities. This avoidance is a clear indication that Chin’ono has been diverting attention from his fraudulent dealings by presenting himself as a social justice warrior.

The timeline also reveals that Chin’ono, originally known as Mukusha, changed his name during the period in which he mysteriously accumulated vast wealth—a period marked by the absence of any salary or wage records to substantiate his claims of legitimate income. This name change was evidently part of his strategy to obscure the origins of his wealth and to reinvent himself as a respected journalist and activist.

Furthermore, multiple credible witnesses have come forward, with some providing video testimonies, confirming that Chin’ono engaged in credit and cheque fraud before changing his name. Some of his former associates from that time have been convicted of fraud involving millions of pounds, underscoring the illegal nature of the activities that funded his rise to prominence.

Among the most significant testimonies is that of a human rights activist employed by the NHS, who withdrew her support for Nelson Chamisa’s opposition party due to its backing of Chin’ono following his 2020 arrest on charges of incitement to violence. The activist, who has recounted her own experiences with Chin’ono’s bullying tactics, warned that his unchecked behavior could have devastating consequences for Zimbabwe if allowed to continue. One key example of this behavior comes from Dr. Nyasha Maboreke, whose family has expressed concerns about Chin’ono’s use of their name. In a revealing audio interview, Dr. Maboreke stated, *“Even my family have been deeply concerned that he sometimes uses my name as well, directly because if you notice he is now saying Nyasha Maboreke these times. So that he makes a distinction between the two of us. You know our lad he does something when, what I have realised is I can engage to tone down. I have already done so actually but sometimes he has got his own mind you know, CHUCKLE!”*

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed a tragic incident in which a 20-year-old woman killed her 18-month-old son- for crying continuously.

On August 14, 2024, police in Nyamandlovu, Lupane, arrested Siphethebuhle Nkomo (20) for the murder of her child.

Nkomo allegedly strangled her son to death after being unable to calm him down while he was crying at Zimdabule Village 4, Deli, Nyamandlovu.

In a separate but equally disturbing case, Fambisai Tavengerwei (50), a suspected mental health patient, was reported to have killed his 2-year-old son by striking him on the head with a log multiple times on August 14, 2024, at Madzore Village, Nyakunhuwa, Zaka.

On Friday, Kandishaya claimed, “President ED Mnangagwa vanovengwa nevanhu vasina basa,” which translates to “President ED Mnangagwa is hated by useless people,” and further asserted, “Hakuna munhu anotuka ZANU PF anemombe,” meaning “No one who criticizes ZANU PF is wealthy.”

Kandishaya’s remarks have attracted significant attention and criticism, as they seem to imply a direct correlation between poverty and criticism of the ruling party. He noted that SADC possesses unique opportunities for economic success, including a rich resource base, resilient people, extensive arable land, diverse minerals, and a favorable climate.

Mnangagwa stressed the importance of reconfiguring the education system to produce skilled innovators and industrialists capable of meeting local needs. Corruption at ZRP Nyanga Traffic Section

The ZRP Nyanga Traffic Section has come under scrutiny for turning traffic enforcement roadblocks into personal cash collection points. Key locations include Magamba Turn Off, Davchards Turn Off, Troutbeck Turn Off, and Nyamhuka. In Nyamaropa, the collection points are Tangwena Turn Off, Regina, and Satuku Bus Stop.

Under the command of District Traffic Officer Chief Inspector Tandare, known as Mbuya, officers have been accused of using their positions to collect daily fees from motorists. Drivers of combis, “mishika shika” (shared taxis), and motorcycles are reportedly required to pay US$5.00 per day for road access. Failure to pay results in the impoundment of their vehicles.

The officers allegedly use personal vehicles for these activities, including an AD van belonging to Major, an old blue Toyota owned by Mbuya, and a Toyota Mark II owned by an officer known as Ngara. In Nyamaropa, they use a Toyota Quantum and a grey Honda Fit, reportedly owned by an officer known as Matawa, who operates both in Nyanga and Nyamaropa.

Nyanga’s major routes—Nyatate, Nyamaropa-Ruwangwe, Mutare, and Rusape—see an average of 80 vehicles daily, each paying $5.00, totaling approximately USD $400.00 daily for Nyanga alone, excluding Nyamaropa and Ruwangwe.

Reports indicate that officers, including Mbuya, are sometimes seen in plain clothes at these roadblocks, raising questions about their legitimacy.

Some officers reportedly position themselves at unmarked roadblocks, further casting doubt on the authenticity of these enforcement points.

In a related incident, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) recently impounded unregistered motorbikes that were in police custody.

To secure the release of these bikes, officers allegedly demanded up to USD $500 per bike. Motorbikes owned by Nigel, Isaac, Tsara, and others were reportedly released under similar conditions.

There are suspicions that some of these bikes may belong to the police officers themselves, with allegations of collusion involving two individuals, Kudzi and George, who are said to assist in extorting funds from bikers.

Bishop Ancelimo Magaya delivered a scathing rebuke to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government on Thursday, condemning its recent actions against citizens’ freedoms.

His criticism came in solidarity with a recent statement by the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, which condemned the state’s harsh measures as the SADC summit approaches.

In his statement, Bishop Magaya expressed support for the bishops’ position, stating, “I unequivocally stand in solidarity with Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference recent statement in which they in no uncertain terms deplored the state orchestrated clamp down on citizens as the SADC summit draws near.”

Bishop Magaya criticized the government’s tactics as “self-defeating,” arguing that the regime’s oppressive actions ironically support the protesters’ cause.

He further condemned the regime’s use of the law to suppress constitutionally guaranteed freedoms, calling it unjustified and counterproductive.

“Sadly, the second republic has mischievously weaponized the law to suppress people’s constitutionally provided for freedoms,” he said.

Drawing on biblical references to underscore his message, Bishop Magaya warned against the consequences of such repression, quoting Psalm 94:21-23: “The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.

He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.”

In closing, Bishop Magaya invoked a plea for divine intervention, declaring, “God Save Zimbabwe.”

Chivhu, Zimbabwe — In a case that has highlighted the tragic consequences of escalating rural disputes, former Midlands State University lecturer Faith Gudo has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of his neighbor, David Dube. The incident, which stemmed from an altercation over stray cattle, has shocked the community and underscored the importance of conflict resolution without resorting to violence.

Gudo, 52, who owns Wildbeast Farm in Chivhu, had initially denied the charges of murder when his trial began before High Court judge Justice Esther Muremba. Despite his defense, which suggested the killing was not intentional, the court found Gudo guilty after a fully contested trial. Justice Muremba, along with her assessors, concluded that Gudo was responsible for the death of Dube, albeit in the absence of aggravating circumstances that would have warranted a harsher sentence.

The court heard that the fatal altercation occurred following a dispute over stray cattle. On the day in question, Gudo and Dube engaged in a heated argument that escalated when Dube allegedly followed Gudo after their initial encounter. In a moment of unplanned violence, Gudo struck Dube with a stone, leading to Dube’s death.

During sentencing, Justice Muremba acknowledged that Gudo’s actions were not premeditated. The judge noted that after the altercation, Gudo intended to report the incident to the local chairman, indicating that he had not planned to commit murder. However, Dube’s decision to follow Gudo resulted in the spontaneous and fatal use of a stone.

In mitigation, the court considered several factors that played in Gudo’s favor. After realizing the gravity of his actions, Gudo reportedly tried to assist the deceased and took responsibility for covering the funeral expenses. Additionally, he paid half of the compensation demanded by Dube’s family. These actions, while commendable, did not absolve him of the crime but were taken into account during sentencing.

Justice Muremba emphasized the importance of delivering a sentence that would serve as a deterrent to others. She remarked, “A reduced sentence might send the wrong message to society, suggesting that providing assistance and compensation to the deceased’s family could result in a very lenient punishment. Given these considerations, the judge imposed the presumptive penalty of 15 years imprisonment, which is standard in cases where murder is not committed under aggravating circumstances. Gweru, Zimbabwe— In a shocking case that has rocked the legal fraternity in Gweru, a man has been arraigned before the courts for impersonating a lawyer and stealing US$15,000 from a divorce settlement. The accused, Takunda Manjokota, is facing serious charges of theft of trust property and practicing law without proper registration.

Manjokota, who appeared in court today, pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was remanded out of custody until next Wednesday, pending further proceedings. The case has drawn significant attention due to the brazen nature of the alleged crime and the amount of money involved.

According to the prosecution, led by Mr. Bongani Taurai Mavuto, the Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has confirmed that Manjokota is not a registered legal practitioner, notary public, or conveyancer. Despite this, he allegedly posed as a qualified lawyer and duped Ms. Lindiwe Moyo, a resident of Daylesford, into believing that he could handle her divorce case.

The court heard that in January 2023, Manjokota approached Ms. Moyo under the pretense of being a registered lawyer. He allegedly claimed he could assist her in processing her divorce at the Bulawayo High Court, where her case, identified as HC582/10, was being heard. The prosecutor revealed that Manjokota presented himself as an experienced legal professional and convinced Ms. Moyo to entrust him with her case.

Manjokota’s scheme reportedly escalated when he informed Ms. Moyo that he had successfully secured a divorce settlement of US$15,000 from her estranged husband, businessman Mr. Mthonzima Moyo. However, instead of handing over the settlement to Ms. Moyo, Manjokota allegedly demanded a 10 percent fee of US$1,500 for his services. The prosecution asserts that Manjokota never intended to deliver the settlement to Ms. Moyo and instead converted the entire amount to his own use.

The incident has raised alarms about the ease with which individuals can impersonate legal practitioners and exploit unsuspecting clients. Legal experts and members of the public have expressed outrage over the breach of trust and the potential damage to the reputation of the legal profession.

The case against Manjokota is set to continue next week, with the court expected to hear further evidence. If convicted, Manjokota could face severe penalties, including imprisonment and significant fines.

A Toyota Hilux double cab, carrying three passengers, struck four pedestrians who were crossing the road.

Two of the pedestrians died at the scene, while the other two sustained injuries.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post-mortem examination, and the injured individuals were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
