By Business Reporter- Zimbabwe’s business community is grappling with a severe shortage of foreign currency in the formal market, threatening their ability to restock essential goods.
The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has confirmed this development, warning of an impending shortage of essential commodities if the situation is not addressed.
CZI has called on authorities to assist manufacturers in accessing foreign currency through the Willing Buyer Willing Seller (WBWS) platform.
CZI CEO Sekai Kuvarika acknowledged that while some stability has been observed in the market, businesses are still finding it increasingly difficult to secure the forex needed to keep their operations running. She stated:
“This is a serious issue. Manufacturers are struggling to access forex, which is essential for their operations. We are in continuous dialogue with the monetary authorities to find a solution. Although there is some market stability, the inability to access forex remains a significant challenge, particularly for the importation of raw materials. As you know, Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector is highly import-dependent—over 70% in most cases.” Kuvarika added that the CZI, the nation’s largest business lobby group, has engaged Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor John Mushayavanhu on the matter. She said: “We have met with the Governor to discuss the accumulation of Zimbabwean dollars (ZiG) due to limited access to foreign currency for importing raw materials. From our discussions, it appears the RBZ is considering the law of averages, suggesting that manufacturers may have substantial US$ sales locally, potentially reducing their overall forex needs.”
Economic analyst Rufaro Zengeni criticized the current WBWS platform, arguing that it needs to be liberalized. He commented: “There are contradictions in the current system. If the RBZ has fixed the exchange rate and people are not allowed to bid higher, this creates a shortage. Despite the scarcity of forex, prices haven’t moved in the past three months. This discrepancy indicates a fundamental problem with our price discovery mechanism.” Economist Prosper Chitambara warned that the forex shortage on the official market is contributing to the devaluation of the ZiG and rising inflation. He explained: “It seems there are not enough willing sellers of foreign exchange to meet the high demand from buyers. As a result, many businesses are turning to the parallel market for forex, leading to the depreciation of the ZiG. This is a clear example of the mismatch between forex demand and supply on the formal market.” Another economist, Gift Mugano, revealed that some businesses are only securing a fraction of their forex requirements. He stated: “Business executives have informed me that they are struggling to access forex from banks, with some only obtaining 5-10% of what they need, despite assurances from the RBZ. This high demand for US$ has caused exchange rates to surge, with rates now ranging between ZiG22.30/US$1 and ZiG24/US$1.”

Zanu PF destroyed of all that is good and cannot create anything. We had Whites coming here to colonize and build some sort of civillization, just to be destroyed by the power of greedy.
Zanu PF leadership has paid lip service to all the basic human right principles our late families, Zanu, Zanala comrades and others fought so hard to achieve.
Democracy, freedom of speech and good governance are ideals that Mr Mnangagwa does not hold in high regard. Why did our war veterans fought for, then? Ian Smith is laughing at us in his grave reminding us, of his strong warnings that Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) of tomorrow will just be left-over remnants from Rhodesia because under Mugabe-Mnangagwa black rule, nothing will be built! As much as Zimbabweans don’t want to admit it, it’s true Zimbabwe was better of under white rule.
The only downside with white rule was racial inequality and social injustices which could have been corrected with time.
I’m not saying white people are better than black people but Zanu PF leadership which took over Zimbabwe after white rule is the one that has led to the downfall of Zimbabwe.
Right now the country has people with great ideas and some even contributed to the liberation struggle but there are being arrested, imprisoned and tortured for demanding accountability and a transparent system of governing. Everyone is crying from war veterans, children and ordinary Zanu PF card carrying members. Mnangagwa”s government is an example of everything that is wrong with post colonialism hence the need for them to go in order for us to celebrate the dedication and sacrifice that was made by our brothers and sisters.

A faction of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists aligned with Zimbabwe’s most popular opposition figure, Nelson Chamisa, is planning to stage mass protests.
This date coincides with the 44th Ordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, set to be held in Harare.
Despite the government’s recent deployment of military tankers onto the streets in a clear attempt to intimidate the populace, the activists remain undeterred.
Operating under the banner “Zimbabwe, Let’s Unite and Fix Our Country,” they have notified the police of their intention to hold peaceful demonstrations.
In a letter dated August 8, 2024, addressed to the officer commanding Harare District, CCC convener Vincent Taruvinga indicated that they expect a turnout of 10,000 protesters. The letter states: “The purpose of the public demonstration is to peacefully protest against the increased human rights abuses in the country, characterised by the continued arrests and detention of pro-democracy activists. It is to protest against the denial of citizens’ rights to assemble as enshrined in the Zimbabwe constitution. Demonstrators will assemble at Robert Mugabe Square, opposite Rainbow Hotel, at 10:00 hrs.”
CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi confirmed that some of the notifications had been received by the police, stressing the legality of their actions: “Because of the nature of the regime we are dealing with, we will take every step that the law requires. We have notified the police. There is no section that says we must seek permission. We have just notified them. The police are aware, and they know that the protesters are secure, so we expect cooperation from the police in terms of the constitution. We are targeting to stage protests in all provinces across the country. But in most incidents, police have recorded or acknowledged that they have received our notifications.”
However, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi claimed he was not aware of the notifications, stating that such matters are handled at the district level.

Kawanzaruwa, who owns Royal Elite LLC—a company specializing in educational, cultural, and sporting events—stands accused of duping her employees and engaging in fraudulent activities.
Reports indicate that disgruntled employees are owed significant sums in unpaid salaries.
According to sources within the company, employees were promised fair compensation for their work but have since been left without payment.
One employee recounted being recruited through a friend, traveling to the UAE for an interview, and subsequently being hired.
The employee was tasked with various assignments, including setting up educational tours and facilitating sporting events.
According to company sources, disgruntled employees are owed thousands of dollars in unpaid salaries.
“I was referred to the company by a friend and decided to apply for a job. I was then called to UAE for an interview after which I was told I had been successful.I was asked to travel to Africa for exploration of which I managed to execute the tasks that I had been. She send me to various sporting companies across the world.
Kawanzaruwa then asked me to bring schools to Dubai for educational tours. I convinced Erry Maple International School staff to take up the Dubai trip, “said one employee.
One employee was only paid for one month and is owed thousands.
Royal Mabika and Maramba her driver are also owed money and she is harassing them.
Kawanzaruwa also seized a USD 3,5 million deal in Zambia that had been facilitated by her employee.
She grabbed the deal and imposed herself on the Zambian government.
Kawanzaruwa is exploitative, she hired thugs to torment her driver. She is also saying all sorts of bad things about the employees who are determined to get their outstanding salaries. “
Despite fulfilling these duties, they were reportedly paid for only one month, with numerous salary arrears remaining.
Further complicating the situation, it is alleged that Kawanzaruwa operates Hatfield Elite School without remitting taxes to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA).
The situation is exacerbated by claims of harassment.
Kawanzaruwa is accused of employing intimidation tactics against her driver, Maramba and another employee, Royal Mabika, and hiring thugs to exert pressure.
She is also alleged to have spread negative information about employees who are seeking their due payments.
Efforts to reach Dr. Kawanzaruwa for her response to these allegations have been unsuccessful thus far. As the situation develops, there is a growing concern over the welfare of those affected and the integrity of the business operations under her control.

He pointed out the unfairness of the situation, sharing an incident where a Zimbabwean general practitioner sent a stage 4 cancer patient to South Africa with a note requesting a pint of blood. “Blood is not manufactured; it comes from people,” he said, emphasizing that Zimbabwe could instead seek help from South Africa to organize blood donations within their own country.
Motsoaledi’s comments echo concerns previously raised by Phophi Ramathuba, the former Limpopo province Health Member of the Executive Council (MEC), who criticized the Zimbabwean government for overburdening South Africa’s health system. Ramathuba was recently elected as the first female Premier of Limpopo.

Sanyatwe introduced Nyamhute during the official opening of a classroom block at Samanyika Primary School in her constituency, sparking criticism.
Opponents accuse Sanyatwe of trying to influence the chieftainship dispute to extend her control over the Nyanga district.
Nyamhute had been appointed as Chief Katerere in 2023 following the previous chief’s death, but his appointment was contested in court for violating traditional succession practices that involve consultation with spirit mediums.
Despite the court’s ruling against his appointment, Sanyatwe is alleged to have acknowledged Nyamhute as the rightful chief.
In response, Sanyatwe denied these allegations, asserting that she was unaware of the court ruling at the time of the event and did not officially recognize anyone as chief during the ceremony. She stressed that she had no intention of meddling in the chieftainship matters of her constituency.
The High Court, under the leadership of Justice Isaac Muzenda, declared Nyamhute’s appointment unlawful and ordered it to be annulled.
The court highlighted that the traditional role of spirit mediums in the succession process for Chief Katerere had been overlooked and called for a new selection process to be conducted by the Provincial Chiefs’ Assembly, with recommendations to be submitted to the President for a final decision.
By A Correspondent| Sybeth Musengezi, a former Zanu-PF activist known for challenging the legitimacy of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ascent to power, has reported that unidentified individuals recently visited his home.
Musengezi filed a legal challenge in October 2021, disputing the processes used by the Zanu-PF central committee to appoint Mnangagwa as acting president following the military coup in November 2017 that removed Robert Mugabe from office. The case is still pending in court.
Recently, a group of armed men, claiming to be from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), visited Musengezi’s residence and demanded to see him. Musengezi was not home at the time.
In response, Ncube Attorneys, representing Musengezi, have written to the police seeking confirmation of whether these men were legitimate officers. They have requested a meeting on August 23, 2024, to clarify the matter. Musengezi’s lawyer, Nqobani Sithole, has stated that they are willing to cooperate with the police if the visitors were indeed CID officers, but they have yet to receive any official response.

The economic collapse is inextricably linked to his rise to power through military coups, electoral manipulation, and the resulting erosion of trust in the country’s leadership.
Since the ousting of Robert Mugabe in 2017, Mnangagwa’s tenure has been marred by a series of military interventions that have not only undermined democracy but also shattered investor confidence. The first coup, which removed Mugabe, was a turning point for Zimbabwe. While many hoped for a new dawn, it quickly became clear that Mnangagwa’s rise was not a transition to democracy but rather a consolidation of power by the military elite.
This was followed by the disputed 2018 elections, where Nelson Chamisa, the leader of the opposition MDC Alliance, was seen as the legitimate winner. However, in a move that shocked the nation and the world, the Zimbabwean military intervened to alter the election results in favor of Mnangagwa. This intervention was even broadcasted on state television, ZBC, which aired military officials discussing the alteration of the election outcomes. The international community, including the United Nations and various human rights organizations, condemned these actions, but no substantial reforms followed.
In 2023, history repeated itself when the military once again played a pivotal role in preventing Chamisa from claiming victory. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) openly criticized the elections, highlighting the irregularities and military involvement. The SADC’s observer mission reported that the elections did not meet the regional standards for free and fair elections, further delegitimizing Mnangagwa’s presidency.

Markets thrive on stability and the rule of law, both of which are conspicuously absent under Mnangagwa’s regime. The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) has been volatile, reflecting the uncertainty that permeates the economy. The Zimbabwean dollar, reintroduced in 2019, has rapidly depreciated, with black market exchange rates often double the official rates. This has further fueled inflation and eroded savings, leaving ordinary Zimbabweans struggling to afford basic necessities.
Economists have repeatedly pointed out that as long as Zimbabwe is led by a president whose legitimacy is in question, the economy will continue to flounder. Dr. John Robertson, a leading Zimbabwean economist, has stated, “No serious investor will put money into a country where the leadership can change overnight through military intervention. The risks are simply too high, and without investment, there can be no recovery.”
The Call for Change
The international community, particularly the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU), have a critical role to play in addressing the crisis in Zimbabwe. The continued military involvement in politics is not only a threat to Zimbabwe’s economy but also to regional stability. Zimbabweans are calling for genuine political reforms and the restoration of democratic principles. Only through such reforms can the country hope to rebuild its economy. Until Mnangagwa steps down or is removed through a legitimate democratic process, Zimbabwe’s economy will remain in a state of perpetual crisis, and the dream of recovery will remain out of reach.
While Mnangagwa speaks of unstoppable economic growth, the reality on the ground is one of economic collapse, driven by illegitimate rule and military interference. The markets, and indeed the people of Zimbabwe, will never trust or invest in a government that has come to power through such undemocratic means. For Zimbabwe’s economy to recover, a new chapter must begin—one that is rooted in democracy, the rule of law, and genuine leadership change.

Listen, be careful, and don’t rush to respond. Don’t interrupt when your client is still speaking. Always answer in a very respectful manner even when the question asked is provoking.
The things that you should avoid are; 1). Try to prove that you know famous people such as politicians or other popular business people. A lot of people mess up by trying to reveal that they know people in the higher offices. Knowing people in the higher offices might be regarded as a corrupt attitude. Invest your time in revealing how much you know your product and how competitive you are in the market. Show the client that you are the best choice among others.
2). Don’t show off and behave like you know better than the client. Don’t impose your ideas on the client. Always ask questions and give solutions to the problems that the client is facing. Only review your previous deals when necessary as a way of giving confidence.
3). Share your experience and the advantage of your product or services in the market. Don’t talk bad about your competitors or other products. You don’t accelerate your product by talking bad about other products or services.
There is a video that once circulated on social media of a great man who was trying to strike a deal, but he messed up by mentioning big names, heeee I know this, heee I can call the president, heeeee I have link to this one and that one. Big people are not happy when they find out that you are using their names to get mileage. Ride on your own experience. If you doubt your own experience to be enough, then the other person will not be convinced of your services.
The most important fact is to know your story. Tell it in a convincing manner such that the other person can easily buy your story. Don’t exaggerate your presentation. Be real and correct.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | It has been 48 years since the tragic day of August 9, 1976, when the Nyadzonia refugee camp in Mozambique was brutally attacked by Rhodesian forces, resulting in the deaths of over a thousand innocent civilians. Among the survivors of this horrific event is Honourable Minister Monica Mutsvangwa, who was known by her war name, “Chido Chimurenga.”

Now 63 years old, Mutsvangwa vividly recalls the events of that day, her voice carrying a mix of sorrow and resilience as she recounts the harrowing experience.
“Nyathi akaurayisa macomrade, nguva dzese tiri munhamo, tinongoshupika, tichingochema, tichingomuchera, shamwari rega kudaro,” she sings, her eyes reflecting the deep pain of that fateful day.
Nyadzonia had become a refuge for Zimbabweans (then known as Rhodesians) fleeing the war. On that day, the camp housed a diverse population—children, nursing mothers, women, and the elderly—all seeking safety from the war-torn zones.
Mutsvangwa, then a young woman, had left Form 3 at Mutambara High School with her friends Winnet Mupita, Sophia Munakandafa, and the late Veronica Chigumira to join the liberation struggle. She recalls arriving at Nyadzonia, a camp where Zimbabwean refugees were housed. The conditions at the camp were appalling. Food was scarce, and during the first few days, they went without eating.
Competition for food, water, shelter, and other basic necessities was fierce. Violence, though already rampant, took on even more abhorrent forms in these camps. Upon her arrival, Mutsvangwa had two dresses, both of which were taken by other comrades who had no clothes. As she searches her memory, she recalls being served sadza with soy milk, which at times resembled nothing more than colored water. They had to be strong and eat, or they would starve to death. Despite thoughts of returning home, the desire for freedom compelled them to persevere.
As mentioned earlier, this camp was a haven for people forcibly displaced or fleeing from their homes due to war, conflict, or the fear of persecution. These individuals sought safety in other countries. At Nyadzonia, there were over five thousand people. It was estimated that by the end of 1978, there were over two million refugees worldwide, all from Zimbabwe. While refugees seek safety and protection in other countries, it can be a long, difficult, and dangerous journey before they find a permanent place to call home. They were united by the shared goal of training to become freedom fighters.
The journey to Mozambique was challenging. They did not know where Mozambique was, only that it lay to the east, so they traveled eastward, terrified of being captured or killed by Rhodesian forces. Along the way, many were captured, tortured, or killed. Some ended up living in refugee camps, temporary settlements providing basic necessities to those awaiting training. Despite having escaped their home country, refugees in these camps faced significant risks.
Life in a Refugee Camp
Living in a refugee camp was a step toward finding a new place to live and achieving freedom, but it also came with its own challenges. One major problem at Nyadzonia was overcrowding. The camp housed thousands of people in close quarters, making it easier for diseases to spread and creating a hazardous situation in case of an emergency. Overcrowding also contributed to many other issues refugees faced when Nyadzonia was attacked. Supplies and appropriate facilities were insufficient. They had to cut grass to build their own camp houses, with grass beds and sometimes only one blanket. Some slept without blankets, and mosquitoes feasted on them. Zvaive zvakaoma.
Sanitation and hygiene were enforced but difficult to maintain. Nyadzonia also suffered from sanitation and hygiene issues due to a lack of clean water and cleaning supplies. This allowed illnesses and diseases to spread easily through the entire population. People were unable to properly clean themselves, wash cooking supplies, or sanitize areas effectively. This was especially serious for girls.
One of the primary issues in refugee camps was the lack of clean water. Without clean water for proper sanitation, refugees were at risk of dehydration and illnesses from consuming contaminated water. They had to rely on river water.
Food safety was also a concern. The nature of refugee camps did not lend itself to proper cooking and food storage. Without reliable power sources to keep food adequately cooled or warmed, people were forced to risk eating what they had available, leading to foodborne illnesses and other health issues.
Limited medical care was another danger faced by refugees in camps. The harsh living conditions often worsened health problems, leading to death in some cases. Mutsvangwa lost many comrades to illness.
“But as the war would have it planned for us, I remember the horrible events of August 9th,” Mutsvangwa recalls. She remembers sitting on the ground, one of her tennis shoes wedged under the dress she had washed and was drying. She was with her comrades.
“As we sat there, we heard the sound of vehicles approaching the camp. People stood up, rejoicing, thinking they were being taken to training camps in Chimoio, Tete, Tanzania, or China,” Mutsvangwa recounts. “But it was not to be. The vehicles were not there to transport us to training grounds. Instead, Nyathi and the Selous Scouts, disguised as Frelimo soldiers, had come to ambush the unsuspecting refugees.”
Having been at the camp for less than a year, Mutsvangwa saw no need to approach the vehicles. Her turn to go for training had not yet come.
Mutsvangwa remained seated, skeptical of the situation, while her friend Veronica rushed toward the vehicles, only to be met with a hail of bullets as the enemy opened fire on the camp.
“I had never heard the sound of gunshots or bombings before, and I had no idea how to protect myself. We started running in every direction, trying to find somewhere to hide, but the bullets were raining down on us. I saw people in front of me and on the sides being shot and dropping dead. It was a gruesome sight—I even saw a head detach from a body. I have visions of the headless body running, only for the lifeless form to collapse to the ground after a few meters,” Mutsvangwa recounts, her voice trembling with emotion.
The survivors fled to the Nyadzonia River, where Cde. Casablanca arrived to help those who could not swim across to safety. They continued their journey, reaching the Pungwe River, which was larger and more treacherous than Nyadzonia. Some comrades tried to fashion makeshift ropes and planks to help them cross, but the waves were too strong, and many of their own were swept away.
“We walked for a day and a half without food until we finally met up with the people of Zhunda. They gave us oranges, and I remember we shared one orange among 15 of us. That day, I learned the true meaning of love and unity,” Mutsvangwa said.
The group eventually reached Zhunda and later established the Doiroi camp from scratch. A platoon was sent back to the massacre site, where Cde. Pfepferere counted the bodies and buried the dead.
The leaders instructed Cde. Pfepferere to ensure that the dead were honorably interred, if possible, according to the rites of the religion to which the deceased belonged. They were to ensure respect for the graves, group them by units if possible, and maintain and mark them. It was a somber moment.
Since the massacre at Nyadzonia, there have been various accounts of what was done, or not done, with the bodies of the dead. Like us, past societies had cultural traditions or spiritual beliefs about the proper treatment of war dead. Some form of disposal in accordance with societal conventions, such as interment or cremation, was generally an important part of these customs. Respect for the dead, identification of remains, and repatriation of bodies are values we share with past peoples.
Now, as Mutsvangwa reflects on that fateful day, she is grateful to God for sparing her life. She also learned that the man known as Nyathi, who led the attack, was actually Levi Mutasa, a traitor who had sold out innocent souls for his own personal gain.
“The bloodshed at Nyadzonia must not go to waste,” Mutsvangwa says. “We must safeguard the freedom that was won through the sacrifices of so many. We owe it to those who lost their lives to ensure that their deaths were not in vain.”

ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi said that six people were killed while seven others were injured when a Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 19 church congregates veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels after the right front and rear tyres of the vehicle deflated.
The six victims of the accident were identified by their next of kin as follows:
Chamunorwa Jejeje (32) [driver], a male adult of Emganwini, Bulawayo
Nokulunga Ncube (43), a female adult of Nketa 9, Bulawayo
Salathiselu Zikhali Ndlovu (60), a male adult of Nkulumane, Bulawayo
Marry Jongwe (62), a female adult of Emganwini, Bulawayo
Essley Mbewe (58), a female adult Nketa 9, Bulawayo.
Privilege Simango (23), a female adult of Rangemore, Bulawayo.
Nyhati said the bodies of the victims were taken to Plumtree Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital. He added:

The latest to do so was Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, who last week invited Vice President Kembo Mohadi to commission 450 police vehicles.
Sources within ZRP headquarters revealed that the original invitation was intended for Chiwenga, but Matanga altered it due to concerns over the ongoing power struggles within Zanu PF.
“Everyone in government is increasingly uncomfortable associating with Chiwenga because of the power tussles in Zanu PF. Associating with him now comes at a significant risk,” the source explained.

By Political Reporter-Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga last week deliberately avoided Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, fearing backlash from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Instead of inviting Chiwenga, Matanga extended the invitation to Kembo Mohadi to commission 450 police vehicles.
Sources within ZRP headquarters revealed that the original invitation was intended for Chiwenga, but Matanga altered it due to concerns over the ongoing power struggles within Zanu PF.
“Everyone in government is increasingly uncomfortable associating with Chiwenga because of the power tussles in Zanu PF. Associating with him now comes at a significant risk,” the source explained.
Chiwenga has notably refrained from endorsing Mnangagwa’s 2030 campaign, which initially gained momentum through the party’s Youth League and has since spread to all provinces.

By Political Reporter- A Masvingo Magistrate, Franklin Mkwananzi, has sentenced the violent Zanu PF, Masvingo provincial youth chairman Delight Mandebvu to two years.
Mandebvu was convicted and convicted of assault; the charges arose after he assaulted former Masvingo Mayor and lawyer Collen Maboke, his wife and a relative after their vehicle sideswiped along Masvingo Mutare Highway.

The human remains were found at Gold Barron’s Better Brands Harare offices by workers renovating the premises.
Scott also runs the Northern Region Soccer League side Scottland Football Club.
A construction worker using an excavator uprooted a tree at the property on Churchill Road in Avondale and unearthed the human bones.
Officers from Avondale Police Station attended the scene, and as part of the investigation, they took bone samples from the site and referred them to a forensic lab for DNA analysis.

A legal opinion further confirmed that this oversight needed to be corrected through a technical amendment issued via a circular,” he explained. The necessary amendment was officially published this Wednesday. South Africa- Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has raised concerns about the Zimbabwean administration sending patients without paying for the services.
Motsoaledi made these comments during the ANC NEC Lekgotla in Benoni last week.
The Health Minister suggested that countries like Zimbabwe should emulate the approach taken by Eswatini, which King Mswati III rules.
Eswatini has ensured that its citizens pay for medical care when seeking treatment in South Africa. He said:
Eswatini has a medical aid not like ours. Because they are a tiny country, when one of their hospitals cannot treat you, they send you to South Africa via that medical aid and the medical aid pays for you. That means the country pays.
Motsoaledi revealed that South Africa had previously advised the Eswatini government that sending patients to private hospitals in South Africa, which charge very high fees, would collapse Eswatini’s medical aid scheme.
As a result, the two countries reached an arrangement whereby Eswatini nationals covered by the medical aid scheme are instead treated at academic hospitals in South Africa, which charge lower rates than private facilities.
Motsoaledi stated that this collaborative arrangement between Eswatini and South Africa is still in place and working well for both nations.
While initially avoiding directly naming Zimbabwe, Motsoaledi went on to strongly criticize the Zimbabwean government under President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF party.
Motsoaledi took issue with Zimbabwe sending its citizens to South Africa for free medical treatment, stating that this practice is unfair to South Africa.
Instead, the Health Minister suggested that Zimbabwe should request technical assistance from South Africa to help strengthen its healthcare system, rather than simply “throwing” its patients across the border. He said:
Other neighbours don’t do that. They just close their eyes and let people cross the border [into South Africa]… It’s unfair. And I want to say this publicly even though [it’s] sensitive.
When Phophi Ramathuba was being attacked by all and sundry, during that period when she was being attacked, she received a letter from a patient sent to South Africa by a GP in Zimbabwe. “The lady has got cancer, stage 4 already… please give that lady a pint of blood.”
In other words, one country asking another country… I will tell you why that is abhorrent to me. Blood is not manufactured.
We get it from the population. There are human beings in Zimbabwe and they have blood, lots of it, for that matter.
All they need to do if they don’t have the technology of taking that blood is to come to South Africa [and say], “Can you help us with people who are going to get people to donate blood in our country” instead of closing their eyes and throw their people over the border. It’s unfair.
Part of the reason is that Heads of State on this continent, and it is the only continent, when they are sick they go to other continents and leave their nationals alone. We have asked that that has to stop.
Ramathuba is the Premier of Limpopo Province and a former Limpopo Member of the Executive Council (MEC of Health).
She stirred controversy in August 2022 when, as MEC, she berated a Zimbabwean female patient seeking surgery at Bela-Bela, a public hospital in South Africa’s Limpopo Province.
She was filmed telling the Zimbabwean woman that foreigners were overburdening South Africa’s health sector.
The remarks attracted varying responses from people of all walks of life with fellow medical practitioners saying Ramathuba had violated the profession’s ethics.
The Zimbabwean Embassy in Pretoria expressed “shock and disbelief” over the video and conveyed its concerns through the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa said that Ramathuba could have raised the issue of immigrants using South Africa’s healthcare services “in another way”.
While answering parliamentary questions, Ramaphosa said Ramathuba had “raised an important issue” of how “service delivery is affected by migration”.
The High Court of Zimbabwe on Thursday ordered the immediate release of four men, including three police officers, who had been on death row for their involvement in the fatal shooting of Edson Manhembe during a botched robbery at Gletwin Farm, Chishawasha Highlands, on July 2, 2010.
The decision followed a Supreme Court ruling that mandated their resentencing.
The four men—Emmanuel Dolosi, Kudzai Madziro, Leeroy Muteyera, and Ronald Roorai Sambo—were initially sentenced to death but were subsequently resentenced to 20 years in prison each.
In making the ruling, the High Court considered the time the men had already served on death row, as well as the periods they spent in pre-trial detention and post-conviction.
The case, which began with the arrest of the four men in 2010, was marked by a prolonged trial that commenced on September 3, 2012, and concluded in 2014 after multiple delays. These delays were attributed to the reassignment of prosecutors, including the original prosecutor, Mr. Chimbari, who was sent to Sudan, as well as challenges in obtaining necessary case records.
The incident that led to their conviction occurred on July 2, 2010, when the four men were found to have unlawfully caused the death of Edson Manhembe, who was shot three times—once in the chest, cheek, and stomach—during a failed armed robbery at Gletwin Farm.
Despite all four pleading not guilty, the court determined that their actions constituted murder committed in the course of an armed robbery.
Throughout the trial, the accused denied their involvement. Dolosi claimed he was coerced into providing misleading indications; Madziro argued that he was unaware of the robbery plan and was threatened by other participants; Muteyera asserted that he was investigating his co-accused rather than participating in the crime; and Sambo claimed he was forced to remain at the scene under duress.
However, the court found compelling evidence against them, including testimonies from security guards at the farm, forensic ballistic reports, and eyewitness accounts. Despite the accused’s claims of coercion, the court ruled that the evidence demonstrated their voluntary participation in the crime.
Justice Mwayera, who presided over the trial, initially emphasized the aggravated nature of the murder, noting that it was committed with a firearm during an attempted robbery by police officers who had betrayed their duty. The severity of the crime initially warranted the death penalty under Zimbabwean law. However, following the Supreme Court’s order for resentencing and the time already served by the men, the High Court opted to reduce their sentences, leading to their release on Thursday.
Youthful Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Takudzwa Ngadziore has revealed that one of the activists currently detained on charges of disorderly conduct was not in the country on the day of the alleged crime.
According to a Facebook post by Ngadziore, Namatai Kwekweza was in South Africa from 25 to 28 June yet the state is saying she committed a crime on 27 June..
“She was in South Africa from the 25th to 28th of June. The state is saying she committed a crime here in Zimbabwe on the 27th of June. All evidence to prove it is there, including air tickets. Free Namatai Kwekweza ! #EndImpunity_zw,” said Ngadziore.
Kwekweza was ejected from a plane at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport while on her way to Victoria Falls.

13 people have been confirmed dead in two road accidents that occurred on Friday evening in Masvingo and Gokwe.
Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the two accidents.
In Masvingo, seven people were confirmed dead while 99 others were injured along the Masvingo-Zano road.
The accident involved a Chikozho bus which was travelling from Masvingo to Topora carrying 105 passangers. It is said that the bus failed to negotiate a steep gradient and overturned. The injured ones have been taken to Mogenster and Masvingo general hospitals.
The other accident occurred along the Gokwe-Siabuwa road where a Nissan Sulphy collided head on with a Nissan AD van and six people died on the spot, three from each vehicle.
Eight people were injured and were taken to Gokwe General Hospital for medical attention.
Richard Tsvangirai, Member of Parliament for Norton Constituency, has voiced strong criticism of what he calls pervasive corruption within the town council.
Tsvangirai condemned an official named Gutsa at the Norton Town House for obstructing his scheduled program.

The vehicles were commissioned in Harare on Thursday by Vice President Kembo Mohadi.
Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe said: “It is for this and many other reasons that the people of Zimbabwe remain indebted to the government’s stance and leadership,” Kazembe said. “I am privileged to highlight that beyond this batch of vehicles, the government is also in the process of availing cutting-edge technology to the police.” He added, “This fleet of vehicles will significantly improve police service delivery, which is crucial for scene attendance, public order management, patrols, traffic enforcement, border patrols, and general administration.” This follows last year’s commissioning of 755 vehicles for the police by President Mnangagwa.

In a statement, ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi said they will release full details on the two road traffic accidents soon. Reads the statement:
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms two fatal road traffic accidents which occurred this evening in Masvingo and Gokwe where a total of 13 people have died.
In the Masvingo accident which occurred at around 1630 hours, a Chikozho bus which was travelling from Masvingo to Topora along the Masvingo-Zano Road with 105 passengers on board (75 seated and 30 standing) went out of the road while negotiating a steep gradient. The bus then hit a dwala and overturned.
Seven people died while 99 were injured. 65 were treated and discharged for minor injuries at Topora Clinic while 33 who sustained serious injuries were taken to Morgenster Hospital and Masvingo General Hospital for medical attention.
In the Gokwe accident which occurred at around 1800 hours this evening, a Nissan Sulphy hit a pot hole at the four kilometre peg along Gokwe-Siabuwa Road and in the process had a head on collision with a Nissan AD Van vehicle with nine occupants. Six people died, three from each vehicle.
Eight people were injured, three critically and five sustained moderate injuries.
They were taken to Gokwe General Hospital for medical attention.
The Police will release full details on the two road traffic accidents on 10th August 2024.

Let us welcome all the SADC dignitaries and tourists as we reiterate the Police’s guarantee of their safety and security.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores motorists to be exemplary in their driving conduct after the recent rehabilitation and construction of major roads in Harare and other parts of the country by the Government of Zimbabwe.
In this regard, police officers deployed on roadblocks and other traffic enforcement duties will impound all unroadworthy vehicles and take stern action on any motorist who will be found driving through red traffic lights, going against the flow of traffic or creating third or fourth lanes on the roads.
This includes those who will be found driving under the influence of alcohol. Motorists should cooperate with police officers controlling or directing traffic at road junctions, traffic lights and other points.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has also deployed police officers at all the facilities where SADC guests will reside and visit resort centres or leisure spots throughout the country.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police will also maintain its usual visibility in residential, industrial areas and Central Business Districts through patrols, stop and search blitzes and monitoring suspects who might want to take advantage of the pending holidays and the SADC Summit to commit criminal acts.
May I also appeal to parents to prioritize the safety and security of children during this holiday. As the nation steps up the fight against drug and substance abuse in the country, I urge the public to continue giving my office information on drug barons and suppliers for the law to take its course without fear or favour.
The Police will also take decisive action against anyone operating unlicensed liquor outlets or shebeens during this period.
Owners of licensed liquor outlets are enjoined to conduct their business within the parameters of their respective licences and ensure that they observe the stipulated opening and closing times of their outlets.
May I implore the public to feel free to report any criminal acts to the Police at various stations or contact the National Complaints Desk for swift action to be taken.

Dynamos have made a technical team appointment after roping in Warren Mapanga as the new goalkeeper’s coach.
Mapanga replaces Brito Gwere, who left his position following the departure of coach Genesis Mangombe earlier in the week.
He will work under interim coach Lloyd Chigowe.
A statement by Dynamos reads:
“Interim Head Coach Lloyd Chigowe has made his first appointment by bringing in Warren Mapanga to fill in the vacant position of Goalkeepers’ Coach in his backroom staff.”
The statement continues: “Everyone at Dynamos Football Club welcomes Warren, and we believe his wealth of experience will help guide our team of able goalkeepers for the remainder of the season and beyond.
“The Club will continue to work with Lloyd in order to bolster his technical department which still has a number of vacancies that will be filled in due course.
“Once the Club and Lloyd have settled on the candidates to occupy the vacant posts in the technical department, an announcement will be made via our official channels.”
Mapanga has worked with a couple of top flight and second tier clubs namely Grain Tigers, Prime Rangers, Mushowani Stars, Hippo Valley, Golden Eagles, MWOS FC and GreenFuel.
His appointment puts an end to rumours suggesting that Dynamos had appointed their former player Munyaradzi Diya as their new goalkeeper’s coach.
This (Thursday) morning, I had the honour of commissioning the Dzivarasekwa Flats, a housing project under the Enhanced Cabinet Committee on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management.
Dzivarasekwa Flats creates homes for 48 families. This project arose from the devastating floods in Budiriro 5 B Extension, which swept away homes and forced families to temporarily relocate. Now, thanks to this project, affected families have new homes.

Mnangagwa has a long history of boasting of the practice of editing results since 2008 electoral contests, and one of his speeches is his boast that he outshined the then State Security Minister when he was just a Rural Amenities minister who edited Morgan Tsvangirai’s 72percent win so that it reads like 48.
Charamba and Makarawu
In the 2018 elections, Mnangagwa’s party spokesman Chris Mutsvangwa announced the editing of results by the army who did this after shooting dead 7 civilians,, and in 2023, Mnangagwa’s presidential win was denounced by the regional body, SADC, which means at present he is not the country’s president.
But this time the contest is outside the country, in France, and his spokesman’s son has come out number 8.
Mnangagwa who has this long history of editing contest results, announced saying his spokesman George Charamba has truly lost. He said“ My heartfelt congratulations to our remarkable sprinters, Tadiwanashe Makarawu and Makanakaishe Charamba, for placing 6th and 8th in the finals of the 200m race at the Paris Olympics. Their achievements are a testament to the resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit that define Zimbabwe. They have made our nation proud. Let us celebrate their dedication and continue to support our athletes as they represent us on the global stage.”
Zimbabwean opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa has criticized the Zanu PF administration for its failure to alleviate the persistent suffering of citizens.
In a statement released on Thursday, Chamisa emphasized the need for effective leadership to drive economic prosperity.
Chamisa stated:

Citizens enjoyed the ability to withdraw foreign currency from ATMs without limits, and money circulated freely throughout the country.

Recent reports have highlighted a significant military presence in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, as Zanu PF hardliners assert that the army trucks seen across the city are part of routine drills for Heroes and Defence Forces celebrations.
This claim was made by Varakashi, a prominent figure behind the Operation Restore Legacy Facebook page, who stated:
“Heroes and Defense Forces Drills are underway in Harare the Capital City of Zimbabwe and surrounding towns. The mandate of our Security Sectors is to maintain peace and stability in the country.”
According to the statement, the increased visibility of military vehicles is intended to showcase the government’s commitment to national security and public order.
However, this explanation is met with skepticism from various observers.
Critics argue that the timing of these military activities, coinciding with the upcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit, suggests a potential agenda beyond mere drills.

Former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou has died.
Hayatou died on Thursday in Paris, France at the age of 77.
The Cameroonian assumed the CAF presidency in 1988 and left office in 2017 after losing an election to Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar.
He also held high positions within FIFA, becoming the world governing body’s acting president between 2015 and 2016 after Sepp Blatter was suspended.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said in an Instagram post: “Saddened to hear of the passing of former CAF president, former FIFA president and interim, FIFA vice-president and FIFA Council member Issa Hayatou. A passionate sports fan, he dedicated his life to sports administration. On behalf of FIFA, condolences go to his family, friends, former colleagues and all who knew him. Rest in peace.”
CAF President Patrice Motsepe added: “On behalf of CAF and its 54 member associations, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of former CAF president, President Issa Hayatou, as well as to the federation Cameroonian Football, its president Samuel Eto’o and to all the Cameroonian people. The Confederation of African Football and African Football will always show their appreciation to President Hayatou for his enormous and profound contribution, over many years, to the advancement and expansion of football in Africa. He will forever be in our hearts and memories.”
In August 2021 Issa Hayatou was handed a one-year ban by FIFA for breaching its code of ethics when signing a broadcast deal with French media company Lagardere in 2016.
The sanction was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in February the following year.
By A Correspondent| Yadah Stars has been hit with a transfer ban by FIFA after failing to settle an $82,000 debt owed to three Brazilian players.
The club was found to have breached its contract by prematurely terminating the players’ agreements, leading to a complaint with the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe.
This case was subsequently taken up by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber, which ruled in favor of the players. FIFA ordered Yadah Stars to pay the owed amount by July 27, but the club’s failure to comply has now resulted in the ban.
The ban prohibits Yadah from registering any new players, both internationally and domestically, until the outstanding debt is paid. FIFA has also instructed the Zimbabwe Football Association to enforce this ban within the country.
As long as the ban remains in place, Yadah’s ability to sign new players for the 2025 Premier Soccer League season is in serious jeopardy. Attempts to get a comment from Yadah Stars have so far been unsuccessful.
Witnesses say the officers, who are part of the Neighbourhood Watch division, tied Nigel to a Honda Fit mshikashika car after accusing him of drinking alcohol. However, neighbors and bystanders dispute this claim, insisting that Nigel was not in possession of any alcohol at the time.
“He didn’t even have a bottle of any alcohol at the time, they just targeted him,” a neighbor told ZimEye, expressing outrage at the senseless violence.
Disturbing pictures in ZimEye’s possession show Nigel’s bloodied body just after the attack, revealing the excruciating pain he suffered leading up to his death.
Following this tragic event, the Office of the Member of Parliament for Chinhoyi Constituency, Honourable Engineer Leslie Mhangwa, released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
“The Office of the Member of Parliament for Chinhoyi Constituency, Honourable Engineer Leslie Mhangwa, wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the late Nigel Samson, who tragically lost his life in a devastating incident involving the Neighbourhood Watch police at Church YeRound area.
Our hearts go out to those affected by this senseless loss, and we share in their grief. As we mourn the passing of Nigel, we find solace in the words of Scripture: ‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted’ (Matthew 5:4).
May this poignant reminder bring hope and comfort to the bereaved family and friends, even in the midst of unimaginable pain. We stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time.”
The officers involved in this incident have not yet been detained or charged, sparking widespread anger and calls for justice from the local community.
