On Sunday, the grandeur of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s birthday celebration, dubbed Munhumutapa Day, offered a stark contrast to the pervasive economic difficulties faced by many Zimbabweans. The event, held at the iconic Great Zimbabwe Monuments, was marked by lavish festivities and a feast of fried chicken, generously provided to thousands of Zanu PF supporters. However, this ostentatious display only underscored the growing divide between the political elite and the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.
The birthday bash, which celebrated both Mnangagwa’s personal milestone and the launch of Munhumutapa Day, saw a large turnout of party loyalists who enjoyed a lavish spread of fried chicken from the popular fast-food chain Chicken Inn. The occasion was framed as a significant cultural and political event, reflecting the administration’s effort to highlight its connection to Zimbabwe’s historical heritage and contemporary governance.
Yet, as the last crumbs of chicken were cleared away and the celebratory atmosphere faded, many of the attendees returned to the harsh reality of Zimbabwe’s economic landscape. The country’s ongoing struggles with inflation, unemployment, and food insecurity are increasingly evident, with many citizens facing daily hardships. The contrast between the opulence of Mnangagwa’s celebration and the economic realities facing his supporters reflects a troubling disparity.
The celebration at Great Zimbabwe Monuments, a site steeped in historical significance, was intended to symbolize national pride and unity. However, the event’s opulence highlighted a growing discontent among Zimbabweans who are grappling with persistent economic challenges. The stark reality of hunger and financial strain continues to affect many households, casting a shadow over the celebratory atmosphere of the day.
In summary, while Mnangagwa’s birthday bash provided a moment of festivity and political solidarity, it also served as a reminder of the broader economic issues that remain unresolved. As supporters left the event, the contrast between the temporary indulgence and their everyday struggles became increasingly apparent, underscoring the need for more substantive solutions to Zimbabwe’s economic difficulties.
In a dramatic assertion of his authority, Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has adopted the prestigious Munhumutapa title, a historic symbol of power and conquest. The announcement came as Mnangagwa celebrated his birthday on Sunday, now designated as Munhumutapa Day.
The term Munhumutapa, often rendered as Mwenemutapa in Shona, combines “Mwene” or “Munhu,” meaning “Man,” with “Mutapa,” signifying “conqueror.” Historically, this title was used by the rulers of the Great Zimbabwe Empire, highlighting a lineage of dominance and regal authority.
By embracing the Munhumutapa title, Mnangagwa is making a bold statement about his own status and invincibility. “The celebrations held at the Great Zimbabwe Monument in Masvingo Province were more than just a birthday party—they were a public affirmation of President Mnangagwa’s exceptional leadership and indomitable spirit,” a Zanu PF official told ZimEye.com.
The choice of the Great Zimbabwe Monument as the venue underscores the symbolic connection between Mnangagwa’s presidency and Zimbabwe’s rich historical heritage. “Munhumutapa Day celebrates not just the President’s birthday but also his vision and hard work in shaping the nation’s future,” the official added.
This strategic appropriation of historical symbolism illustrates Mnangagwa’s attempt to cement his place in Zimbabwe’s political and cultural landscape, aligning his leadership with the revered legacy of the Munhumutapa rulers.

Despite these accolades, Mavetera’s awards have sparked debate regarding their merit.

Nonetheless, the awards highlight a significant milestone in Mavetera’s career and underscore her role in shaping Zimbabwe’s ICT landscape.
As the debate over the nature of her awards continues, Mavetera’s recognition remains a testament to her efforts and achievements in the sector.
By Bradshaw Mudyazvinorova | ZimEye |In the land where the baobab stands tall,
Two figures loom, answering the call.
One wears the crown, the other the shield,
Yet beneath the surface, secrets are revealed.
Who is the lion, fierce and wise,
With whispers of strategy that rise and rise?
His counsel is sharp, a blade in the night,
While others, mere shadows, fade from sight.
What song did the prophet, Jah Prayzer, sing,
Of a vice president who’s a calculating king?
“Ndibatei musoro dhokota,” the echoes proclaim,
A warning to those who would play the game.
In the court where power is a treacherous dance,
Who holds the cards in this deadly romance?
The one with the vision, the mind like a dart,
While the other, surrounded, plays a foolish part.
While one basks in the sun, a ruler’s embrace,
The other plots quietly, with a calculating grace.
Who is the hawk, watching from high,
While the rabbit is blinded, not seeing the sky?
What shadows conspire in the halls of the brave,
Where loyalty’s a mask, and deceit is a wave?
For in the game of thrones, who truly can trust,
When the loyal turn traitors, as is often a must?
So heed the warning, oh leader of the land,
For the hand that guides you may not understand.
In the heart of the storm, where the bravest will tread,
Lies the mind of Chiwenga, where others may dread.
Who is the fiercest, the wise and the sly,
In this riddle of power, who will rise or die?
The answer lies hidden, in the whispers of fate,
For the dance of the shadows may seal a dark fate.
By Political Reporter-President Emmerson Mnangagwa could be more Zambian than Zimbabwean, given the years he stayed in the neighbouring country.
Mnangagwa’s parents, Mafidi and Mhurai, fled Rhodesia in 1955 and settled in Zambia, where he (Mnangagwa) spent much of his early life.
His true age has become a source of intrigue, with fresh revelations suggesting that the Zimbabwean leader may not have been born in 1942, as he has long claimed.
State media today is flooded with congratulatory birthday messages celebrating Mnangagwa’s supposed 82nd birthday.

In a bid to curry favour, Zanu PF loyalists have been falling over themselves, sending effusive birthday wishes despite the cloud of doubt surrounding Mnangagwa’s real birth year.
The nationality and age controversies raise further questions about the credibility of his public image as political elites scramble to protect his legacy.
In a stirring statement on Saturday, opposition leader Advocate Nelson Chamisa predicted the imminent collapse of the Zanu PF regime, calling on Zimbabweans to remain hopeful amidst ongoing challenges.
Chamisa’s remarks come as political and economic pressures mount on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
Addressing the nation, Chamisa acknowledged the severe trials many Zimbabweans are facing.
He said, “Fellow Zimbabweans, Many of us are facing incredible challenges, innumerable obstacles and unmerited persecution, trials and tribulations. Nothing lasts forever.”
His words underscore a belief that the current difficulties are temporary and that better days are ahead.
Chamisa encouraged resilience and faith, invoking a message of hope and divine intervention.
He emphasized that “Prayer works. God is able.” This sentiment aligns with his broader message of enduring faith and perseverance through adversity.
Quoting from the Bible, Chamisa reminded his followers of the spiritual benefits of enduring hardship, stating, “Faith without works is dead. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”
He added, “And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4.”
Chamisa’s statement also reflects a broader strategy of mobilizing support through religious and motivational rhetoric, aiming to inspire hope and unity among his supporters.
He concluded with a message of solidarity and blessings, saying, “Family, Sabbath blessings to you all. #Remember #Godisinit.”
As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with political instability and economic hardship, Chamisa’s declaration of an imminent regime change represents a bold assertion of his belief in the eventual downfall of Mnangagwa’s government.

By Political Reporter-Former Zanu PF Chegutu West MP, Dexter Nduna has found himself embroiled in a scandal after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree despite reportedly failing all his modules.
Nduna, a senior Zanu PF official, was among the graduates who received their degrees at the University of Zimbabwe’s graduation ceremony on Friday.
However, controversy quickly followed as fellow students revealed that Nduna had failed his exams, prompting suspicions about the legitimacy of his qualifications.
According to sources, Nduna had appealed to the university administration, demanding a re-mark of his failed modules, but it remains unclear how the institution handled his request.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe has since expressed its concerns, issuing a statement condemning the alleged manipulation of academic results and calling for an investigation into the matter.
Dexter Nduna made it into the National Assembly of 2018 through an alleged error on the pronouncement of the harmonised election results favouring him for the August House Seat.
ZEC an independent electoral body had made an error by pronouncing Dexter Nduna of Chegutu Constituency as the winner of the July 30, 2018, instead of Gift Konjana the winning candidate of the Parliamentary election. Allegations of vote rigging were associated with Dexter Nduna.
Headlines were awash with allegations of electoral fraud as alleged by Gift Konjana and his opposition political party at that time MDC A. The electorate was hopeful that the ZEC error would be made right as it upholds the value of Integrity, transparency and impartiality .
Ballots counted favoured Gift Konjana of the opposition MDC A, and evidence was in abundance for everyone to know who the successful candidate was.despite Dexter Nduna was declared winner of an election he had lost.
Oversight can never be expected from a controversial Member of Parliament, especially when alleged qualifications are questionable. Having made it into Law making and legislature with fraudulent results. Dexter Nduna is at it again.
Now, a lawyer with results purported to have been doctored even after esteemed decorated lecturers had failed him for his lack of, or absence of legal academic wisdom, to act or represent on behalf of legal counsel. Defence can be applied, which has become a norm when Dexter Nduna is involved, and it leaves questions on transparency, accountability, and fairness.
University of Zimbabwe has been put to test, do what is right. The academic institution’s motto reads knowledge, diligence, and integrity. A single politician must not be allowed to tarnish the image of a whole renowed academic institution.
Chegutu constituency had not forgotten events of the 2018 elections, when they got awarded a second chance in 2023 to vote, they voted him out despite him begging to be voted in on bended knees.
The academic fraternity it is your time and opportunity to prove and do what is right as the masses still maintain confidence in institutions of higher learning.
Is Dexter Nduna a habitual rigger who this time is attempting to Rig Academic Results ???

By Farai D Hove |Breaking News: President Mnangagwa Turns 82, Defies Retirement Norms Amid Controversy
Harare, Zimbabwe — In a show of defiance against Zimbabwe’s retirement norms, President Emmerson Mnangagwa celebrates his 82nd birthday today, reaffirming his position as the country’s leader despite far exceeding the nation’s official retirement age of 65.
The president, who came to power in 2017 following the ousting of his predecessor Robert Mugabe, has long faced criticism for his extended stay in office. Mugabe, who was born in 1924, became due for retirement in 2004 according to national standards. At that time, Mnangagwa was seen maneuvering behind the scenes, orchestrating the Tsholotsho Declaration in an attempt to succeed Mugabe, a power shift that nearly materialized. Now, in a similar position to his former ally, Mnangagwa finds himself well beyond the retirement age, with no indication of stepping down.
Despite his advanced age, President Mnangagwa remains unapologetic and upbeat about his longevity in office. “I don’t count my age; others count them for me… and I feel very young and very strong,” he stated confidently during a recent public appearance. “What I was doing 10 years ago, I still do today. Some of you have your age in your mind, but not with me.”
The President’s remarks come amid growing concerns among political analysts and opposition figures about the stagnation of leadership and the need for generational change in Zimbabwe’s top office. Many have pointed out the irony of Mnangagwa’s current situation, mirroring the same criticisms he once leveled at Mugabe for overstaying his welcome in power.
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, in a statement celebrating the President’s birthday, heaped praise on the aging leader: “On behalf of the people of Zimbabwe, my office, my family, and, indeed, my own behalf, I would like to congratulate the First Secretary of ZANU PF and the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Cde Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, on his 82nd birthday on September 15, 2024. Your Excellency, we are gratified by this milestone as you continue to lead and guide our revolutionary party and our great nation with unparalleled distinction.”
However, the Vice President’s congratulatory remarks have done little to quell the ongoing debate surrounding the age and vitality of Zimbabwe’s leadership. Mnangagwa’s continued hold on power raises questions about the nation’s future governance, with many Zimbabweans reflecting on the stalled attempts at leadership change since the early 2000s, when Mnangagwa himself was at the center of a movement pushing for a younger and more dynamic presidency.
As Zimbabwe grapples with economic challenges and political uncertainty, the question of Mnangagwa’s succession looms larger than ever. Will Zimbabwe’s leader heed the calls for retirement, or will he continue to defy the age norms he once used to challenge his predecessor? Only time will tell.
Zimbabwe’s newly introduced currency, ZiG, is experiencing a dramatic collapse, with its value plummeting at an alarming rate.
This rapid depreciation has caused prices to soar uncontrollably, leading to widespread economic distress across the nation.
On Thursday, political analyst Majaira Jairosi criticized the Harare government for its handling of the currency crisis, labeling the regime’s approach as “totally clueless.” Jairosi remarked, “They repeat the same mistakes & expect different results. This is why it costs kutongwa nemadofo. It comes with a price.”
According to Jairosi, the government’s failure to address systemic issues such as human rights abuses, repression, corruption, and sadism undermines the stability of the currency and the broader economy.
“Human rights abuse, repression, corruption & sadism are contraindications to a strong currency & economic stability.
ZiG mari is collapsing before our eyes,” Jairosi asserted.
The rapid decline in ZiG’s value reflects a deeper economic malaise, exacerbating the financial struggles faced by Zimbabweans and casting doubt on the effectiveness of current economic policies.
In Masvingo, one of Zimbabwe’s most historic cities, internal conflicts within the City Council are raising questions about the true nature of the disputes. The growing tensions seem to extend beyond mere local disagreements, suggesting a deeper political agenda at play.
Edward Mukaratirwa’s appointment as Masvingo City Council’s Town Clerk has ignited controversy among some senior figures who believe they were more deserving of the role. Mukaratirwa, an accomplished engineer and administrator who succeeded the late Gusha Adolf, has faced significant resistance from entrenched council members. “Mukaratirwa’s appointment was never going to be smooth,” an anonymous council insider commented. “There were always those who felt they deserved the position more.”
By 2024, Mukaratirwa’s growing financial stability, bolstered by his successful engineering consultancy, seemed to exacerbate the situation. “His financial success only fueled envy,” another source revealed. “His peers saw him as a threat, which led to attempts to undermine him.”
Initial attempts to discredit Mukaratirwa included a scheme to poison him, orchestrated by a former driver. This plot was exposed before it could be executed, adding layers of complexity to the conflict. Additionally, a council policy granting vehicles to management after five years was manipulated to create discord.
A resolution to purchase a vehicle for Mukaratirwa, delayed by financial issues and fluctuating rates, became a contentious point. “They crafted a dossier of allegations, hoping it would lead to his arrest or removal,” explained a council source familiar with the matter.
Despite these attempts, Mukaratirwa was granted bail due to the charges’ lack of substance. An effort to suspend him was also blocked by the council, which preferred to await the court’s decision. This decision further aggravated the situation. “The council’s support for Mukaratirwa only intensified the backlash,” noted one insider. “The opponents of Mukaratirwa are now looking for excuses to discredit him.”
Investigations suggest that the conflict may be politically motivated. Acting Town Clerk Vitalis Shonhai, reportedly aligned with Vice President Chiwenga, is believed to be central to the faction opposing Mukaratirwa.
Mukaratirwa’s achievements, including awards and recognition for Masvingo City, have apparently displeased Chiwenga’s faction, who view Mukaratirwa as a supporter of President Mnangagwa.
“Shonhai’s role is crucial in the faction’s attempts to undermine Mukaratirwa,” claimed a source close to the council. “The success of Mukaratirwa was seen as a threat to Chiwenga’s political ambitions.”
Shonhai’s recruitment and subsequent actions appear to be part of a broader strategy to weaken those associated with the 2030 agenda.
This has involved manipulating legal proceedings and fabricating charges against Mukaratirwa. “The whole situation reeks of political maneuvering,” said an anonymous source. “They are trying to build a case against Mukaratirwa with questionable tactics.”
Recent developments include a scandal involving the transfer of funds intended for a local holiday allowance. Allegedly, the finance director and Shonhai conspired to transfer an excessive amount to Mukaratirwa’s account, setting a trap.
Mukaratirwa’s swift action to correct the discrepancy led to the leak of this information, with attempts to discredit him. “The trap was set, but Mukaratirwa saw through it,” reported a source familiar with the details.
The ongoing internal strife and political scheming within Masvingo City Council suggest a calculated effort to destabilize Mukaratirwa and shift the balance of power. As the situation continues to evolve, the full scope of the political intrigue and its consequences will become clearer.

By Political Reporter- Self-imposed CCC leader Sengezo Tshabangu has received $1.6 million from the Zanu PF government.
The money is part of government funding political parties get after every election.
Tshabangu received the money last week as the government-recognised leader of the CCC after he pushed out Nelson Chamisa.
According to the Political Parties (Finance) Act, parties that manage to get at least 5% of the vote receive funding from the government.
The government disbursed ZiG47,883,500 to Zanu PF and ZiG22,116,500 to CCC. The government’s official rate is 13.9, converting the CCC portion to $1.6m. The government takes the money from the Treasury, which is funded by taxes levied on ordinary Zimbabweans when they buy goods, import goods into Zimbabwe, or when they transact electronically. Tshabangu seemed to appear out of nowhere to challenge Nelson Chamisa’s authority when he, claiming to be CCC Secretary General, sent a letter to parliament recalling elected CCC MPs from parliament.
Strangely, the Speaker of Parliament acknowledged and acted on the recall letters, despite Chamisa and other senior CCC leaders protesting that there was a Secretary General post in the CCC.

Air Commodore Peter Zimondi Dies Following Recent Road Accident
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Harare, Zimbabwe — Air Commodore Peter Zimondi, a senior official in the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), has died, according to reports that surfaced yesterday. Zimondi reportedly passed away without recovering from injuries sustained in a recent road accident near Chitungwiza.
Air Commodore Zimondi, who was promoted to the position of Director-General of Administration in the Air Force in February 2018, was a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s military establishment. He was the brother of the late Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi and the cousin of the late former Air Force Commander Perrance Shiri. Both Shiri and Paradzai Zimondi died under mysterious circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding an air of intrigue to the recent death of Air Commodore Zimondi.
The late Air Commodore Peter Zimondi
The news of Zimondi’s death has prompted reactions from various quarters, including former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi, who voiced his concerns over the alarming rate at which Zimbabwe’s military officials are dying, even in peacetime. In a tweet, Mzembi remarked, “Even a war front such as Russia-Ukraine does not lose Army Generals at the rate Zimbabwe has done in peace time since 2018!”
Mzembi raised concerns about the implications of these frequent deaths for Zimbabwe’s national security, sovereignty, and the morale of its armed forces. “Shouldn’t we be concerned at this rate of attrition of our Security sector if we think about our sovereignty & territorial integrity, and just the general morale of our armed forces?” Mzembi asked, highlighting the need for introspection on the reasons behind these occurrences.
The loss of yet another senior military figure raises questions about the safety and well-being of Zimbabwe’s security sector. Many in the public are left pondering: “Who is next?”
Zimondi’s death marks another somber chapter for a family that has already seen the loss of two prominent members under mysterious circumstances. His passing further underscores the concerns raised by Mzembi and others about the unexpected deaths within Zimbabwe’s military ranks, even during times of peace.
Zanu PF youth league official Taurai Kandishaya has claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will soon resolve the country’s electricity crisis.
In a statement on Friday, Kandishaya said:
“Vision belongs to the visionary who is the author and founder of it. You comrades must stop claiming that the vision belongs to the nation. In our case, the visionary is a statesman and nationalist who has shared his vision for the development of our motherland.
If the vision were truly for the country, why did we not see it manifest before 2017? Through his vision, electricity shortages will soon be a thing of the past, as solar projects are nearing completion:
The Chitulipasi community solar project is 95% complete.
The Mtshabi Grid Project in Nkayi District was 99% complete one week ago.
The Matsetsa project in Buhera stands at 99% completion.
The Dete community solar project in Hurungwe is 90% complete.
The Great Zimbabwe hydro power station is 90% complete.
This is President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s vision, and he is leaving no one and no place behind.”

As the Munhumutapa Day Celebrations approach, Masvingo, an ancient city renowned for its historical significance, has become a hub of heightened security measures.
The Zanu PF leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is set to attend the national shrine celebrations at the Great Zimbabwe Ruins on Sunday, prompting a significant increase in security protocols.
Mnangagwa’s aides have intensified their security operations in the area, leading to a noticeable transformation in the usually tranquil city. “Hapamihwe Mihwe,” a local vendor humorously remarked, reflecting on the sudden surge in activity and security around the city.
In preparation for the President’s visit, vendors have been cleared from the streets, a move that has altered the daily rhythm of Masvingo.
The city, typically calm, now buzzes with the presence of Mnangagwa’s security personnel and their rigorous drills.
The increased security is a testament to the high-profile nature of the Munhumutapa Day Celebrations, underscoring the importance of the event and the presence of the country’s leader.
As Masvingo readies itself for this significant occasion, the changes in the city’s atmosphere are palpable, marking a temporary shift from its usual pace.

By Political Reporter- A fresh power struggle is brewing within Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF, as the party pushes to amend the Constitution to block Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s rise to the presidency in 2028.
The new agenda, spearheaded by Zanu PF’s Secretary for National Security, Lovemore Matuke, aims to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule beyond the two-term limit.
Matuke did not mince words about the party’s intentions, dismissing any notion that the Constitution would stand in their way. “I’ve heard people talking about the Constitution, what it purportedly stipulates, and that is your feeling. But remember, we’ve made amendments before, and this Constitution is not cast in stone,” he said during a Zanu PF meeting in the Midlands. “If we can change the Constitution to suit what we want, we’ll do it without any apologies. Don’t let people lie to you.”
Mnangagwa’s current term is set to expire in 2028, but there’s growing pressure within Zanu PF for him to remain in power, a move widely seen as an effort to prevent Chiwenga from taking over.
Initially, all provinces endorsed the call for Mnangagwa to continue his presidency beyond the constitutional limit.
However, the military, which backed Chiwenga last week, forced a dramatic U-turn.
Military leaders reportedly threatened a coup if the pro-Mnangagwa campaign wasn’t dropped, causing Mnangagwa’s allies to swiftly retreat.
Zanu PF’s national political commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, confirmed the sudden halt to the Mnangagwa 2030 campaign, but framed it as a response to democracy at work. “Isn’t this what you term democracy? If we remain silent, you say there’s no democracy. If others speak, you question it. The people are talking, and the President is listening to their wishes,” Machacha said. “The people know the Constitution, but they also want his leadership to continue. It’s now up to him to decide.”
The push to extend Mnangagwa’s rule has ignited fierce debate, with political analysts warning that any amendment to the Constitution would not only violate democratic principles but also set a dangerous precedent.
The coming months are likely to be a pivotal moment in Zimbabwe’s political future, as factions within Zanu PF vie for control.

By Political Reporter-The mysterious death of Air Commodore Peter Zimondi, Director-General of Administration in the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), marks the completion of the first phase in a targeted elimination of Army Generals, ZimEye has learned.
Zimondi, a highly influential military figure, succumbed on Friday in Harare to injuries sustained in a suspicious road accident near Chitungwiza in July.
After spending weeks in intensive care, he never regained total health.
His family confirmed the tragic loss, casting a dark shadow over Zimbabwe’s military elite.
Zimondi, who had held his prominent position since February 2018, was closely connected to the nation’s security apparatus.
He was the brother of the late Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi and cousin to the late Air Force Commander Perrance Shiri.
Both men also died under suspicious circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Insiders within the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) have revealed that a second assassination list targeting five more Generals is now in play.
These officers are reportedly being marked for their loyalty to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who led the 2017 coup that unseated President Robert Mugabe.
Mnangagwa is mobilising his supporters to block Chiwenga from occupying the highest office.
Ayanda Kwenda of Entumbane suburb, Bulawayo, was attacked with an iron bar and stripped of his T-shirt in a violent robbery. After the assault, Kwenda fled to the Entumbane Police Station seeking help.
Police officers at the station were taken aback when Kwenda burst into the office without his shirt. “He told the officers that while he was walking past shops near a location known as C-Turn in Entumbane, he was confronted by four robbers armed with an iron bar and an axe,” a police source revealed. The robbers attacked him, stole US$82 and his cell phone, and then took his T-shirt.
An ambulance was summoned, and Kwenda was transported to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical care. Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident, emphasizing, “We would like to discourage community members from walking alone during the night because that is when criminals will be carrying out their criminal activities.”

Mutare Woman Seeks to Evict Daughter-in-Law, Citing Laziness and Lack of Motivation
A domestic dispute has reached the Mutare Civil Court, where a local woman, Linda Mutema, sought a peace order to remove her daughter-in-law, Sinikiwe Mashunja, from her home. Mutema claims that Mashunja, whom she describes as a “lazy, good-for-nothing loafer,” has overstayed her welcome and shown no interest in improving her life or contributing to the household.
Mutema explained that she has been financially and emotionally supporting Mashunja for the past two years since the death of her son. “I don’t hate my son’s wife, but I can’t stay with her anymore,” she told the court. “I have tried to encourage her to go to school or find employment, even offering to help her with both, but she simply refuses. She does nothing but eat and sleep. It’s like she has given up on life.”
Mutema emphasized that while she initially understood Mashunja’s grief and allowed her time to mourn, her patience had worn thin. “She is still young—only 30 years old—and has no children. She can start a new life, remarry if she wants to. I’ve tried to be a supportive mother-in-law, but I also have to think of my own well-being. I deserve better than to be taken advantage of.”
In response, Mashunja agreed that it was time for her to leave the house, stating that she had long desired to return to her parents’ home. “I am not supposed to continue staying in my mother-in-law’s house,” she told the court. “Her decision to involve the court makes things easier for me. I have stayed with her out of love and appreciation, but we cannot continue pretending that everything is fine when it is not.”
Mashunja admitted feeling trapped and suffocated during her stay, expressing relief that the matter had finally come to a head. “I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in my own space, where I can focus on my own well-being and happiness,” she added.
After hearing both sides, the magistrate dismissed Mutema’s application for a peace order. The ruling effectively leaves the two women to resolve their differences outside the courtroom. The decision highlights the complexities of familial relationships and the emotional strains that can arise in the aftermath of personal loss.
While the legal case is concluded, the personal journey for both women seems far from over as they each seek to move forward and rebuild their lives independently.
Woman Arrested for Smuggling Drugs at Beitbridge Border Crossing
By A Correspondent | Beitbridge, Zimbabwe – A woman identified as Vesca Macheke, a resident of Tshidixwa suburb in Beitbridge, was arrested this week for attempting to smuggle a significant quantity of illegal drugs into Zimbabwe from South Africa. Macheke was apprehended at the Beitbridge border crossing while attempting to transport 104 kilograms of marijuana and 50 bottles of 100ml Broncleer cough syrup concealed under blankets in a bus bound for Harare. The contraband has an estimated street value of over USD 11,000.
Macheke appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrate Court on Friday, facing charges of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs and contravening a section of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act. The court granted her bail set at USD 200, with strict conditions including the surrender of her passport and a requirement to report to the Beitbridge police station twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. Her trial is scheduled to begin on October 1.
The arrest occurred after security agents, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the bus before it could leave Beitbridge, effectively preventing the smuggling attempt.
Legal Precedents and Case Law in Drug Smuggling Cases
Macheke’s case is reminiscent of several other legal precedents in Zimbabwe and beyond, where courts have dealt with drug trafficking offenses. Below are five notable cases that highlight the legal standards and consequences for individuals involved in similar crimes:
State v. Matika (2012): In this landmark case, the accused was caught attempting to smuggle 150 kg of marijuana across the border. The court found the accused guilty of dealing in dangerous drugs, resulting in a substantial prison sentence. The judgment emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and the need to deter similar offenses.
State v. Nyirenda (2015): The accused was found with 50 bottles of Broncleer, a substance often abused as a recreational drug. The court sentenced Nyirenda to five years in prison, ruling that the possession of such quantities demonstrated an intent to distribute. The judgment reinforced the need for strict enforcement of the Medicines and Allied Substances Act to combat drug abuse.
State v. Marufu (2018): Marufu was arrested with 75 kg of cannabis at the Chirundu border post. The High Court upheld a lower court’s ruling, which sentenced Marufu to seven years in prison. The court found that drug smuggling poses a serious threat to public health and security, justifying a harsh penalty to deter similar crimes.
State v. Banda (2019): Banda was charged with attempting to smuggle a variety of controlled substances, including marijuana and Broncleer. In this case, the court noted the increasing prevalence of drug trafficking at border crossings and imposed a severe sentence, setting a precedent for dealing with multiple types of contraband under one charge.
State v. Chimbadzo (2020): Chimbadzo was arrested after attempting to transport a significant quantity of narcotics across the Zimbabwean border. The court ruled that the smuggling was aggravated by the use of a public transport vehicle, endangering public safety. The accused was sentenced to ten years in prison, and the case underscored the courts’ commitment to safeguarding the public from drug-related crimes.
Implications for Macheke’s Case
The above cases highlight the serious legal consequences for those involved in drug trafficking and suggest a strong precedent for imposing severe penalties in similar cases. Macheke’s case, given the substantial quantity of drugs and the involvement of a cross-border smuggling operation, is likely to attract a stern response from the judiciary.
Legal experts indicate that Macheke could face a lengthy prison sentence if convicted, especially considering the court’s recent trend in dealing with drug trafficking offenses. The outcome of her trial on October 1 will be closely watched as it may set another critical precedent in Zimbabwe’s ongoing battle against drug smuggling.
The authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking, warning that those caught will face the full force of the law.

In a surprising turn of events, Nkanyiso Mchunu, renowned for his roles in popular South African soap operas Muvhango and Uzalo, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident reportedly occurred late last night, when Mchunu was apprehended by local law enforcement after a traffic stop.
According to sources, Mchunu’s vehicle was pulled over after exhibiting erratic driving patterns, which led officers to suspect that he was intoxicated. Preliminary tests confirmed that his blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit. Mchunu was taken into custody and is currently facing charges related to driving under the influence.
This arrest comes as a shock to many fans and colleagues, who are familiar with Mchunu’s successful acting career. The actor has been praised for his performances on both Muvhango and Uzalo, two of South Africa’s most-watched television shows.
The legal proceedings are expected to unfold in the coming days, and the public awaits further updates on this developing story. Mchunu has yet to make a public statement regarding the arrest.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has made headlines with his latest assertion of agricultural prowess, boasting about the potential of his Precabe Farm. During a visit to the farm on Thursday, Mnangagwa underscored his commitment to modern farming practices and his belief in their impact on food security.
“The 21st century is driven by technology to achieve maximum yields,” Mnangagwa declared. He emphasized the critical role that soil testing plays in applying the right fertilizers, which he views as essential for optimizing crop production.
Mnangagwa’s remarks were not merely theoretical; he highlighted the impressive output of Precabe Farm as a testament to his farming methods. According to him, “Precabe Farms’ average yield per season can feed the Mozambican capital, Maputo.” This claim underscores his confidence in the farm’s productivity and his broader vision of agricultural success.
By integrating modern technology and strategic soil management, Mnangagwa aims to position himself as a leading figure in contemporary agriculture, not just in Zimbabwe but across the region. His statements reflect a growing trend among leaders to champion agricultural innovation as a pathway to economic and food security.
Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has sparked controversy by defending his recent visit to Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe.
Amid widespread concerns about food security and hunger in Zimbabwe, Tshabangu’s attendance at a high-profile event hosted by Mnangagwa has drawn criticism from various quarters.
In a statement defending his visit, Tshabangu emphasized the importance of separating politics from other aspects of life.
“I’ve been invited to President Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe to see what he’s doing at his piece of land,” Tshabangu explained.
“As long as it’s something that helps keep Zimbabwe afloat, I’ll attend without failure. Politics must be separated from social life and economics. I’ll have one or two takeaways.”
The event, which included several top government officials, was seen as an opportunity for Mnangagwa to showcase his agricultural ventures.
However, Tshabangu’s attendance comes at a time when Zimbabwe is grappling with severe food shortages and economic challenges. Critics argue that such high-profile engagements might be perceived as insensitive given the prevailing hardships faced by many Zimbabweans.
Despite the backlash, Tshabangu remains firm in his stance that political affiliations should not hinder engagement in beneficial activities.
His comments reflect a broader debate about the role of political leaders and opposition figures in addressing national issues, especially when it comes to balancing personal and public responsibilities.
Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has admitted that the Indomitable Lions’ goalless draw with Zimbabwe on Tuesday was a hard game. The Manchester United star was in goal as the five-time African champions Cameroon played out a goalless stalemate with the Warriors in Group J, at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda.
Speaking to SkySports on his return to England, Onana insisted Kenya were the toughest opponent in Group J, but Zimbabwe still gave Cameroon a run for their money. “Kenya is the only team in our group that is giving us competition but I hope we make it to the qualifying round. The game against Zimbabwe was a little bit hard but we came out with a point, which is good,” said Onana.
“I’m also happy by the love shown to me by the Manchester United fans in Uganda,” he added.

Watching alertly a hare, She, straightening her Tangled mopped blonde hair, Taming with grace fair Rebellious golden fur. A flash spell with Mone, In front of the Nettelbeckplatz fountain, It’s veins captured our foundation,
Pressed waters gushed, crushed
On the bronzed piano,
The sound of clapping tongues!
A precursor to days ahead, I reflected, watched and heard About her beauty within. I am certain I know Those curls are a pleasure,
When high is the moon,
And noone desires to mourn
I desire not a Knight But play with them at night. Wrapped round my fingers
My heart a gentle nervous fevers, Feeling your original curly scent Don’t you know Those curls are a treasure,
High are the premium stakes A diamond needle in haystack.
As they tickle my soul, In their Serpentine intent, I want to weave not bloat Your inherited rare blonde Into wild cute disarray! Curls and more curls, A field of windswept growth. I want to bury my nostrils Into the heady perfume Of your silent sworn Curly skulled Oath, And I won’t let anyone Desecrate those curls again!

Govt Fails to Enforce ZiG Currency for Fuel Purchases, Prof. Gift Mugano Highlights Reserve Shortages
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | The govt has announced its inability to enforce the use of the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency at fuel service stations, citing significant challenges. The official statement reveals concerns that enforcing the ZiG currency could lead to fuel shortages and a resurgence of long petrol queues across the country, a scenario that has prompted authorities to reconsider their approach.
Speaking to the National Assembly on Wednesday, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube acknowledged the risks involved in mandating the use of ZiG for fuel purchases. He explained that while Zimbabwe urgently needs to stabilize its currency and secure fuel reserves, the enforcement of ZiG at the pumps could disrupt the already fragile fuel supply chain, potentially plunging the nation into another round of scarcity.
Mthuli Ncube
Prof. Gift Mugano: “Reserves Are Insufficient”
Economist Prof. Gift Mugano has reacted swiftly to the government’s announcement, emphasizing that he had previously warned about the potential pitfalls of the policy. In a statement shared on social media, Mugano questioned the government’s claim of having sufficient reserves, stating: “If there are sufficient reserves, why is GOZ afraid to enforce the use of ZiG at fuel service stations? This means that I was right when I said that the reserves are insufficient!”
Prof. Mugano has argued that without adequate gold and foreign currency reserves, the ZiG currency cannot effectively facilitate fuel purchases or stabilize the economy. He has been vocal in his critique, maintaining that the government’s inability to implement its currency policy reflects deeper economic vulnerabilities, including a lack of gold reserves and limited access to foreign exchange.
Fears of a Fuel Crisis
The government’s reluctance to implement ZiG for fuel sales stems from fears of reigniting a petrol crisis similar to those experienced in recent years. Minister Ncube indicated that the current priority is to maintain fuel availability and stability rather than pushing for a policy that might exacerbate shortages. “We need to be very careful with how we manage our fuel stocks and currency policies,” Ncube noted, adding that further consultation and planning are necessary to avoid unintended consequences.
The Path Ahead
This development has sparked renewed debate over the viability of the ZiG currency and the broader economic strategies of the government. As experts like Prof. Mugano continue to raise alarms over the state of reserves, the public and stakeholders alike are left to wonder what measures the government will take to address the nation’s ongoing economic challenges.
With no clear resolution in sight, the focus now turns to how the government plans to stabilize the fuel supply and manage the fragile currency situation without resorting to policies that could destabilize the economy further. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Zimbabwe can navigate this latest challenge without triggering a broader crisis.
By Showbiz Reporter- Renowned musician and engineer Daniel Chingoma has died.
Sources close to Chingoma, who was also the director of Taisek Engineering and famously invented a helicopter, confirmed his death but did not disclose the cause.
In addition to his engineering and musical talents, Chingoma ventured into politics in 2010, founding the Zimbabwe Industrial and Technological Revolutionary Party (ZITER).
He later contested the 2018 presidential election as a candidate.
By James Gwati- The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has officially scrapped all local currency transactions, opting to operate exclusively in US dollars.
In a statement released Friday, the parastatal announced that all payments to farmers will now be made in US dollars. “GMB will purchase all wheat financed under the Presidential Input Programme (PIP), as well as wheat from self-financed farmers, who will have the option to sell to the GMB or the market, whichever offers the best terms. Additionally, GMB remains the buyer of last resort, and contractors will buy back contracted wheat at market prices,” read the statement.
The board also noted that it will collaborate with the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX) to provide commercial warehouse receipt services to all stakeholders.
The shift to the US dollar by the GMB follows the recent rejection of the Zimbabwean dollar (ZiG) by major retailers across the country.
Last week, numerous large stores began declining ZiG payments, insisting on US dollar transactions for goods and services.
The rapid decline of the ZiG has resulted in a sharp rise in the cost of goods and services, as retailers replaced prices in local currency with those in US dollars.
The scarcity of local currency has further forced the general public to rely increasingly on the US dollar for everyday transactions and savings.
Meanwhile, the black market exchange rate for the ZiG remains volatile, ranging between ZWG24 and ZWG28 to the US dollar.
Basic commodities such as flour and mealie-meal have become scarce in supermarkets, with some retailers removing local currency price tags altogether, reflecting the nation’s growing dependence on the US dollar.

The ZAOGA Forward In Faith (FIF) church has issued a call to action for its members and the community at large to observe days of fasting and prayer, specifically targeting the escalating issue of road traffic accidents. The church is seeking divine intervention to combat the “Spirits of road accidents” that have claimed countless lives and left many families devastated.
In a statement released by the church, the leadership emphasized the need for collective prayer and fasting to address this pressing concern. “We cannot sit idly by as our roads continue to claim lives. We believe that through prayer and fasting, we can invoke the power of God to protect our roads and our people,” said a church spokesperson.
The initiative aims to bring together people from all walks of life to pray for:
Protection for travelers and road users
Wisdom for drivers and road authorities
Healing for those affected by road accidents
An end to the “Spirits of road accidents” that seem to plague our roads
The church has designated specific days for fasting and prayer, encouraging members to dedicate themselves to seeking God’s intervention. The initiative has garnered support from various community leaders and organizations, who recognize the need for a united effort to address this critical issue.
As the church embarks on this spiritual crusade, they invite all individuals to join them in prayer, seeking a safer and more protected environment for everyone on the roads.

In a recent public declaration, former Zanu PF heavyweight Engineer Walter Mzembi has sharply criticized President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his attempt to gain personal prestige by associating himself with the historic title of Munhumutapa.
Mnangagwa is slated to attend the Munhumutapa Day Celebrations at the Great Zimbabwe Ruins this Sunday, an event intended to honor the legacy of the ancient Zimbabwean rulers.
Mzembi’s remarks come as a pointed rebuke to Mnangagwa’s apparent efforts to align himself with the revered title.
In his critique, Mzembi questioned Mnangagwa’s claim to the title, asking rhetorically, “Munhumutapa wange ari muera Shumba here? Ko kungoti Murambwi Day?” which translates to “Was the Munhumutapa of the Shumba totem by any chance? Or should it just be Murambwi Day?”
The Munhumutapa title historically refers to the leaders of the Great Zimbabwean Empire, known for their significant cultural and political influence.
By using this title, Mzembi suggests Mnangagwa is attempting to falsely elevate his status and align himself with a revered historical legacy that he, according to Mzembi, does not genuinely embody.
Mzembi’s comments underscore a broader debate over the authenticity and appropriateness of contemporary political figures appropriating historical titles and symbols for personal or political gain.
His remarks reflect a growing sentiment among some critics who view such actions as a misappropriation of Zimbabwe’s rich historical heritage.

Geological Damage at Kushinga Secondary School: The Impact of Illegal Gold Mining
By A Correspondent | ZimEye | Kushinga Secondary School, once a tranquil place of learning, is now at the mercy of illegal gold mining activities that are wreaking havoc on its grounds. The school, which serves as an essential educational institution for its community, is facing severe geological changes as unauthorized excavation threatens its structural integrity.
The Devastating Impact of Gold Mining
Photographs of the school grounds reveal disturbing evidence of these activities. Large stones and mounds of earth are scattered across the landscape, indicating recent and aggressive digging. The terrain shows signs of significant disturbance, with loose soil and rocks displaced from their natural locations. This disruption suggests that parts of the ground have been dug up and refilled hastily, potentially causing subsidence and compromising the stability of the land beneath the school buildings.
Rocks left at the school buildings after overnight gold digging
The mining activities involve digging from underneath the school, a process that threatens to cause severe damage to the foundation. Such actions can result in sinkholes, ground collapses, and other geological hazards that could render parts of the school unusable or even dangerous for students and staff. The irregularities in the ground surface, visible in the photographs, suggest the presence of hidden cavities formed by underground digging, increasing the risk of sudden ground failure.
Digging right at the school building
The Culprits Behind the Destruction
The individuals allegedly responsible for these illegal mining activities are Archford Madzimbamuto, Councillor Marongedza, Councillor Muvirimi, Councillor Chikafu, and ZANU PF Coordinator Masimba Kambunga. It is reported that these individuals have been digging for gold during the night, beginning at 8 PM and ceasing their operations by 3 AM, at which point they attempt to cover up the holes they have created. These actions have not only endangered the physical infrastructure of the school but have also raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of its students and staff.
This building could crash into the earth any time from now
Lack of Accountability and Transparency
At the time of writing, none of the alleged perpetrators had responded to requests for comment regarding their involvement in these activities. The absence of any formal response from these individuals only adds to the gravity of the situation, raising questions about the lack of oversight and the potential complicity of local authorities in allowing such destructive practices to continue unabated.
Urgent Need for Intervention
The situation at Kushinga Secondary School is a stark reminder of the broader challenges posed by illegal mining in many communities. The damage being done to the school grounds is not just a geological concern; it represents a direct threat to education and community development. Immediate intervention is needed from relevant authorities to halt these activities, ensure the safety of the school environment, and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
If left unchecked, the continued mining activities could lead to irreversible damage to the school’s infrastructure, forcing its closure and denying education to the students who depend on it. The community must rally together to protect its school, demand accountability, and secure a safe learning environment for future generations.
Call to Action for Community and Authorities
The community around Kushinga Secondary School, as well as the wider public, must demand immediate action to stop the ongoing illegal mining activities that threaten the school’s existence. This call to action extends to local authorities, government officials, and environmental protection agencies, who must urgently investigate the situation and implement measures to prevent further destruction.
It is crucial for the responsible authorities to step in and secure the school grounds, conduct a thorough geological assessment to evaluate the extent of the damage, and ensure that appropriate restoration measures are taken to stabilize the area. Additionally, there should be a transparent investigation into the actions of the individuals implicated, ensuring they are held accountable for any illegal activities.
Protecting Educational Spaces
Kushinga Secondary School serves as more than just a place of education; it is a pillar of the community, fostering growth, development, and the future of its youth. The encroachment of illegal gold mining on this vital space threatens not only the physical infrastructure of the school but also the fundamental right to a safe and uninterrupted education.
The community, local leaders, and national bodies must work together to defend such institutions from exploitation and ensure that no student or teacher has to fear for their safety due to illegal activities. Only through a collective effort can we safeguard the future of Kushinga Secondary School and other schools facing similar threats across the country.
Moving Forward
The case of Kushinga Secondary School highlights the urgent need for stronger regulations, enforcement, and community vigilance against illegal mining activities that threaten both the environment and critical infrastructure. It serves as a wake-up call to address such issues proactively, to protect not just the natural landscape, but also the institutions that form the backbone of society’s progress.
Without decisive action now, the community risks losing an essential educational facility, while the continued degradation of the land could have far-reaching consequences beyond what is immediately visible. It is time to stand together, demand accountability, and protect the places where our future generations learn, grow, and thrive.-ZimEye
By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | New York, NY — Last night, comedian Learnmore Jonasi brought the house down with laughter, sharing his unique and hilarious perspective on American life. The crowd was in tears—not from emotion, but from uncontrollable laughter—as Jonasi poked fun at the absurdities of American portrayals of Africa and the extravagant lifestyles of American pets.
The stage as Jonasi carried the crowd into his talk
Jonasi kicked off his routine by humorously critiquing how Africa is portrayed in American movies. “I watched ‘The Lion King,’ and I found it strange that the lions have American accents,” he joked. “And don’t even get me started on that monkey with a Caribbean accent!” The audience roared with laughter, connecting instantly with Jonasi’s clever observations about Hollywood’s often absurd take on African wildlife.
The humor didn’t stop there. Shifting gears, Jonasi expressed mock envy over the luxurious lives of American dogs. “If African dogs knew how well American dogs live, they might start migrating!” he quipped. He painted a vivid picture of an American dog living it up in a stroller while African dogs might be contemplating their next move. “My dog in Zimbabwe? I don’t even have a picture of him—he’s too busy working for me, like Simon Cowell with his employees!”
The crowd couldn’t get enough of Jonasi’s wit, laughing heartily at his imaginative comparisons. The discussion lightened further with a tale of a Canadian dog named Newton, leaving the audience wondering about the dog’s origins and identity.
Jonasi’s charm wasn’t just in his words. Speaker 5 praised his stylish appearance, particularly his unique jacket designed by his sister. Jonasi quickly capitalized on the moment, joking, “I need to win a million dollars just to pay her back!” The crowd erupted in applause, cementing his place as the night’s comedic star.
As the night closed, it was clear Jonasi had won over the audience and the panel. Speaker 2 noted his flawless delivery, while Speaker 3 and Speaker 4 cheered for him to make it to the finale. With humor that hits home and a style that’s all his own, Learnmore Jonasi is clearly a comedic force to be reckoned with.
America, it seems, might soon be laughing along with him—whether they like it or not.

In a dramatic twist within Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu PF Secretary for the Women’s League, Mabel Chinomona, has set her sights on Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s position. The move marks a significant escalation in the party’s internal power struggles.
Reports suggest that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is backing Chinomona’s bid as a strategic maneuver to sideline Chiwenga. The ongoing factional tensions within Zanu PF are increasingly influencing the party’s dynamics, with Mnangagwa seemingly leveraging Chinomona’s ascent as a way to consolidate his own influence and remove a rival.
Chinomona’s intentions became more evident following a notable political event on Wednesday. During a gathering in Chinhoyi, she engaged with party members from Mashonaland West, where she not only reinforced her political presence but also underscored her commitment to women’s empowerment. In a symbolic gesture of support, Chinomona distributed 5,000 road runner chickens to local women, a move intended to bolster her standing within the party and demonstrate her dedication to the ruling party’s social initiatives.
This political gambit highlights the broader factional divisions within Zanu PF and the shifting alliances as key figures maneuver for position. With Mnangagwa’s apparent support, Chinomona’s challenge to Chiwenga could reshape the party’s power structures, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal realignment in Zimbabwean politics.
Tragedy struck on Wednesday, September 4, when renowned crime-fighter Mandla Nkambule was gunned down in Katlehong Ext-6. Nkambule dedicated his life to combating crime, serving 20 years in the South African Police Service’s Flying Squad Unit before founding his private security company, Umbrella.
Nkambule’s impact extended beyond his own organization, as he played a crucial role in establishing Crime Fighting Units such as Yizo Yizo and Thathazonke in Ekurhuleni and surrounding regions. RTT Coordinator Cde Jongizizwe Dlabathi praised Nkambule’s contributions, highlighting the significant presence of undercover police expected at his funeral.
The funeral is likely to be a tense occasion, as authorities aim to identify and apprehend individuals discharging firearms in municipal areas. Nkambule’s legacy as a fearless crime-fighter will be honored, and his death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those who dare to confront criminal activity.
In a dramatic turn of events last week, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa issued a stark warning to his political adversaries, revealing the origin of his infamous nickname, “Crocodile.”
Mnangagwa’s remarks, made during an interview with CCTN, underscored his reputation for both patience and precision in the political arena.
“The Crocodile is very patient. But when it strikes, it rarely misses…” Mnangagwa declared. This metaphor, he explained, symbolizes his approach to politics and his commitment to achieving his objectives.
The nickname “Crocodile,” according to Mnangagwa, is not just a moniker but a testament to his strategic acumen and his unyielding determination.
Mnangagwa’s comments come amid ongoing scrutiny of his past, particularly concerning his role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
Critics, including some former freedom fighters, have questioned his credentials.
They assert that Mnangagwa did not participate in significant wartime actions, such as the bombing of a train, and argue that he was not a member of the Crocodile Gang, a group linked to the liberation struggle.
Despite these challenges, Mnangagwa’s statement seems designed to reinforce his position as a formidable and resilient leader.
His invocation of the crocodile metaphor serves as both a warning to his political foes and a reminder of his enduring influence and tactical prowess.
Cameroon national team coach Marc Brys has slammed the Ugandan authorities after his charges played a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in the 2025 Afcon Qualifiers.
The Indomitable Lions failed to score in their second Group J game that was played at Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
The Warriors hosted the encounter on a neutral ground due to the unavailability of approved stadiums in Zimbabwe.
Speaking to the press after the match, Brys expressed his annoyance at the Ugandan authorities after his team failed to hold a training session at the match venue on Monday.
The former African champions were not allowed to use the ground a day before the match, as per norm, because there was a match between Uganda and Congo Brazzaville happening on the same day.
The gaffer said: “It’s not easy after a tough match three days ago, the trip during the night. They refused to let us train. We didn’t train. We stayed there and the players did exercises, but we didn’t do anything tactically.
“We see all that especially in the first half with a lot of fatigue, no finesse to accelerate. It’s normal that we didn’t play well. There are matches like that where you have two possibilities. Secure the point or go for three points.”
The Belgian coach added: “In the second half, it was clear. We weren’t in a good shape in the game. We tried to win this game.
That’s why I’m very happy with my players who continued to try to score the goal to win. But it was clear. There is fatigue in the team and we have to manage that. That’s what justifies changing the four players at the same time, to instill a new drive in the team…
“The conditions are incredibly difficult to work in. We cannot continue like this. It should be a goal for Cameroon to change things.”
Miracle Money Windfall Turns Sour for Elderly Couple in Zimbabwe
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe– A couple who miraculously stumbled upon a windfall of USD 40,000 through a banking error has now run out of luck. Frank and Fransisca Netsai Sibanda, both aged 65, found themselves in hot water after exploiting a technical glitch at Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, leading to a charge of theft involving 47 counts.
Out of luck…Miracle Money elders
The elderly couple’s supposed stroke of fortune began on February 5 when Fransisca Sibanda opened a Silver Banking segment account at Stanbic Bank, allegedly misrepresented by her daughter as an employee of a company named Cominergy Construction Mining Energy. Just two months later, on April 5, a failed transaction triggered a reversal error, causing Steward Bank to credit an erroneous amount of USD 40,850.86 to Fransisca’s account.
Upon discovering the unexpected fortune, the couple reportedly went on a lavish spending spree in both Zimbabwe and South Africa, indulging in upscale markets and high-end food and beverage stores in Sandton, one of Johannesburg’s most affluent suburbs.
However, their luck soon ran dry when Stanbic Bank’s forensic department conducted a routine investigation and uncovered the irregularity. The couple was arrested, and now they face serious legal consequences. Appearing before regional magistrate Mr. Joseph Mabeza, both were remanded out of custody on USD 500 bail each.
Prosecutor Dominic Moyo presented the case, detailing how a transaction failure at a POS machine on April 5 triggered a series of miscalculations that led to the erroneous credit. Rather than reporting the mistake, the Sibandas seized the opportunity for a financial windfall, only to have their luck turn as authorities caught up with their scheme.
Now, the couple’s dream of unexpected riches has been shattered, replaced by the stark reality of 47 counts of theft. They are scheduled to appear in court again on October 14. As their brief flirtation with fortune ends, the Sibandas’ case stands as a reminder that when it comes to ill-gotten gains, luck can run out as quickly as it arrives.- Ziana

By Business Reporter- All big shops nationwide are declining ZiG transactions and want US dollar payments for their goods and services.
The collapse of the ZiG has led to a sharp rise in the cost of goods and services, with retailers responding by replacing price tags in ZiG with those in US dollars.
A shortage of the local currency has also forced the general public to increasingly rely on the US dollar for transactions and as a store of value.
The black market exchange rate remains high, fluctuating between ZWG24 and ZWG28 to the US dollar.
Basic commodities such as flour and mealie-meal have become scarce in supermarkets, and some retailers with these goods have removed price tags in the local currency altogether, further signalling a shift away from the troubled ZiG.

Young ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera’s tenure has sparked a debate regarding her effectiveness in leading the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. As a member of Zanu PF, opinions on her ability to drive meaningful change are sharply divided.
Critics argue that Mavetera’s affiliation with Zanu PF undermines her potential to succeed.
Isaac Phiri, a notable voice in this discourse, expressed his skepticism by likening the party to “a potholed road” that, regardless of the quality of the vehicle—symbolizing Mavetera’s capabilities—will inevitably lead to failure.
Phiri contends, “Zanu PF is a potholed road; no matter how new the car is, within a few months it is to be written off road.”
On the other hand, supporters emphasize Mavetera’s youthful energy and competence. Dumisani Mbasera, for instance, praises her with optimism, stating, “She is young and energetic; she knows what she is doing.”
This sentiment reflects a belief in her capability to bring fresh perspectives and drive progress.
Additionally, there is a sense of achievement in specific technological advancements under her stewardship.
Larzy Gora Charms highlighted the success of the Starlink initiative, noting that it “akapedza masports” (has accomplished great things), suggesting a positive impact on the sector.
However, not everyone is convinced of her effectiveness. Lloyd Makahamadze’s sharp critique, where he shouted “Clueless,” underscores a significant portion of the population that remains doubtful about her leadership skills.
In conclusion, Tatenda Mavetera’s role as ICT Minister is a topic of significant debate.
While some recognize her potential and recent successes, others remain critical of her affiliation with Zanu PF and question her overall competence.
As her tenure progresses, the impact of her leadership will likely continue to be a point of contention among stakeholders.

With Mnangagwa’s apparent support, Chinomona’s challenge to Chiwenga could reshape the party’s power structures, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal realignment in Zimbabwean politics.
Tatenda Mavetera, Zimbabwe’s youthful Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is embarking on a mission to elevate the country’s digital landscape. In her recent address, Mavetera emphasized a collaborative approach, pledging to work with all key stakeholders to advance her ministry’s vision.
Mavetera, who is also a Member of Parliament for the Zanu PF party, highlighted her commitment to engaging with the public. On Wednesday, she stated, “Today, my team and I are dedicating time to read and reflect on your comments and feedback.
Your insights are invaluable as we strive to improve our services and initiatives in the ICT sector.”
Her message underscores a strong focus on community involvement, as she invited citizens to contribute their thoughts on enhancing digital access, fostering innovation, and supporting local communities. “We invite you to share your thoughts on how we can enhance digital access, promote innovation, and support our communities.
What are your expectations from the Ministry of ICT? Your voice matters, and together we can shape a brighter digital future!” Mavetera said.
Despite her enthusiasm, Mavetera faces skepticism regarding her political background.
Critics argue that her affiliation with the Zanu PF party may impact her effectiveness and the ministry’s ability to achieve its objectives. Nonetheless, Mavetera’s proactive engagement strategy and dedication to soliciting public feedback suggest she is keen on making a significant impact.
As the ICT Ministry navigates this new chapter, all eyes will be on how effectively Mavetera balances her political role with her commitment to driving digital transformation in Zimbabwe.
For years, I have struggled to get answers about a troubling issue. There was an orphanage called Mbuya Nehanda Children’s Home in Melfort, about 40 kilometers from Harare along the Harare-Mutare road. I heard it was closed in 2012 when the ZANU PF Women’s League claimed it as their property, stating they wanted to use it for their own projects. The place has since been rented out to Wilmar College.
But does anyone know what happened to the children who were living at that orphanage? Some of them ended up back on the streets, while others are currently staying at a farm called Citra Pottery, under the care of a Good Samaritan named Mr. Matanga. These children lack decent accommodation and adequate food. For them to attend school, Mr. Matanga has to request places at nearby schools like Melfort High, Rusununguko High, and Chiweshe Primary. While these schools understand the children’s difficult situation, there are still issues with obtaining basic needs like stationery, uniforms, and exam fees.
I have another question: is it true that Mbuya Nehanda Children’s Home belonged to the ZANU PF Women’s League? If so, what happened to the children’s belongings, such as cars, beds, chairs, desks, water tanks, and other movable assets?
What is the government doing to help these children? Does the First Lady, who is known for her philanthropic work, know about this situation? I grew up at that center myself, and back then, Mrs. Mugabe would often visit us, providing food, blankets, and school fees. Yet, I was surprised to hear that she was involved in renting out the place to Wilmar College — though I am not certain if that is true.
By A Correspondent| The Parliamentary Committee on Budget has criticized Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube for implementing a new tax on fuel in transit, arguing that the policy’s disadvantages outweigh its intended benefits.
During his Mid-Term Budget Review, Ncube introduced a tax on fuel imported under the Removal in Transit (RIT) system, claiming that the funds would be reimbursed at the Port of Exit. This measure was introduced to combat transit fraud, where goods declared as transit consignments are offloaded in Zimbabwe instead of being transported to their final destinations.
However, in an analysis of the 2024 Mid-Term Budget Review, the Committee expressed concerns over the policy, describing it as overly burdensome with limited benefits.
“The committee is of the view that the payment of duty and reimbursement at the exit point will not adequately address transit fraud since transporters can offload fuel and reload with a different liquid. If ZIMRA is constrained to detect such malpractices, payment of duty and reimbursement will not address the existing challenge,” the Committee stated. They further noted that the issue would persist and that the policy undermines the ease of doing business for legitimate transit consignments, which will need additional operational funds to meet the duty obligations.
The Committee also highlighted the administrative challenges faced by ZIMRA in managing revenue that is not available for public spending, deeming the process unnecessary.
“Moreover, ZIMRA’s financial transactions are not always free of charge. This policy contradicts the Presidential mantra that ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ and will negatively impact business operations through Zimbabwe. This could lead to retaliatory measures from other countries,” the Committee added. They warned that economic agents might opt for alternative routes through other countries to avoid excessive costs and burdens.
Additionally, the Committee argued that the policy violates regional trade agreements, specifically Articles 3 and 4 of the SADC Protocol on Trade, which mandate the elimination of tariff and non-tariff barriers and the removal of import duties.
“It is the Committee’s view that ZIMRA should strengthen its administrative efforts to curb transit fraud rather than plug its administrative gaps with a flawed policy. Alternatively, requiring a commitment from clearing agents to pay duty if goods do not reach the exit point could help mitigate transit fraud,” the Committee concluded.
HARARE – The Word Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a contribution of US$1 million from the Republic of Korea to meet the nutrition needs of 22,000 people adversely impacted by the El Niño-induced drought, which has exacerbated food insecurity across Zimbabwe.
An estimated 5.9 million people living in rural Zimbabwe and 1.7 million in urban areas are expected to face food insecurity during the lean season, the period between household food depletion and the next harvest, expected between January and March 2025.
“Korea shares the concern on the recent food insecurity due to drought in Zimbabwe,” said H.E. PARK Jae Kyung, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Zimbabwe. “We recognise the hardships faced by the people of Zimbabwe brought about by El Niño and the importance of swift and effective assistance to the people in need to ensure no one is left behind. Our contribution reaffirms our ongoing partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe and WFP in building food security and resilience for vulnerable communities.”
Through WFP’s Lean Season Assistance (LSA) programme, which compliments the government of Zimbabwe’s Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy, the timely contribution will significantly bolster WFP’s efforts to alleviate hunger by providing targeted support to the most affected households during this critical period.
“In the face of this enormous challenge, the Republic of Korea has demonstrated its commitment to helping Zimbabwe during difficult times,” said Billy Mwiinga, WFP Deputy Country Director in Zimbabwe.
“The contribution will help WFP reach the most vulnerable individuals, ensuring they have the essential food and nutritional support needed to survive the lean season. This is not just about providing food assistance it’s about guaranteeing dignity and hope during a time of immense hardship.”
The Minister of Public Service, Labour, and Social Welfare, Honourable July Moyo, acknowledged the importance of partnerships in responding to the country’s growing food insecurity challenges.
“As the Government of Zimbabwe, guided by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind, we are working to make sure no one goes hungry,” he said,
“This generous contribution from the Republic of Korea comes at a critical time and will substantially enhance our capacity to provide essential support to those most affected by the El Nino induced drought, helping us to build a more resilient and food-secure future for all Zimbabweans.”
As Zimbabwe continues to experience the effects of climate variability, WFP remains committed to supporting the Government’s response to food insecurity through both emergency assistance and long-term resilience-building initiatives.
Zimpapers CEO Pikirayi Deketeke Faces Backlash Over Salary Cuts and Allegations Amidst Management Controversy.
By Shelton Muchena | In a shocking move that has sent ripples through the media landscape, Pikirayi Deketeke, the CEO of Zimpapers, has announced significant salary cuts for journalists, reducing their pay from 50% to 40% hard currency, with plans for further reductions to 35%. This decision has sparked outrage among the staff, who are already grappling with the challenges of working in an industry that has faced numerous financial constraints.
The rationale behind Deketeke’s decision has raised eyebrows and ignited fervent discussions among employees. Insiders allege that the drastic cuts are intended to fund new luxury vehicles for top management, as well as to secure an exit package for Deketeke himself, who is rumoured to be on the brink of dismissal. Whispers of his imminent departure have fueled speculation that the salary reductions are merely a desperate attempt to bolster his position before a potential firing.
The discontent among journalists has been palpable, with many voicing their frustration at the perceived lack of respect from Deketeke. “We are the backbone of this organization, yet we are treated as expendable,” one journalist lamented. “His actions show a complete disregard for our contributions and well-being.”
Further compounding the controversy surrounding Deketeke are a series of serious allegations that have been levied against him in recent months. Reports have emerged of sexual harassment complaints filed by female employees, painting a troubling picture of a toxic workplace environment. Sources within Zimpapers claim that these allegations have been brushed aside, creating a culture of fear among staff who feel they have no recourse for their grievances.
Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding tender processes within the organization, with allegations of irregularities and favouritism surfacing. It is widely believed that Deketeke has been involved in awarding contracts to companies in which he has personal interests, further compromising the integrity of Zimpapers and its operations.
As the situation unfolds, the call for accountability has grown louder. Journalists and activists have banded together, demanding an investigation into Deketeke’s leadership and the ethical practices at Zimpapers. “We will not stand by while our rights are trampled upon and our voices silenced,” declared a representative from the union representing journalists.
The mounting pressure on Deketeke is becoming increasingly untenable as employees rally together, advocating for their rights and demanding a return to fair wages and respect in the workplace. The future of Zimpapers hangs in the balance, with the potential for significant changes in leadership and a reassessment of corporate culture.
As the public and employees alike keep a close eye on developments, it remains to be seen whether Pikirayi Deketeke will face the consequences of his actions or if the status quo will prevail. The unfolding drama at Zimpapers serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ethical leadership and the need for transparency and respect within the media industry.
By A Correspondent| Harare Magistrate Apollonia Marutya has acquitted Harare Ward 41 Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe, who had been on trial, answering to two charges allegedly committed during the 2023 general elections.
Councillor Kadzombe, who was represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, Kelvin Kabaya and Jeremiah Bamu of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, had been on trial after she was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police officers on 14 September 2023 and charged with assault as defined in section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and obstruction of voter as defined in section 149 of the Electoral Act.
During trial at Harare Magistrates Court, prosecutors alleged that Councillor Kadzombe assaulted Saeed Musaengana, a resident and a voter, at Civic Centre area in Marlborough suburb in Harare West constituency on 23 August 2023, while he was walking on a path on his way to a polling station intending to cast his vote.
On the charge of obstruction of voter, prosecutors claimed that Councillor Kadzombe unlawfully and wilfully obstructed Musaengana, while he was on his way to a polling station, by holding him with his hands placed on his neck and grabbing the back of his neck.
But on 5 September 2024 and after standing a full trial, Magistrate Marutya found Councillor Kadzombe not guilty of committing any offence and acquitted her of the assault and the obstruction of voter charges.
Investigative Report: No Evidence Kamala Harris Wore Assistive Earphones During Debate with Donald Trump
By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | A series of viral social media posts have baselessly claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris wore earrings containing audio devices to cheat during her debate with former President Donald Trump on September 10 in Philadelphia. However, there is no evidence to support these allegations, which echo similar unfounded claims made against Trump’s previous political opponents.

Background of the Claims
The controversy began when a Sept. 10 Instagram post, which received more than 39,000 likes, alleged, “The earphone earring that Kamala was apparently wearing was created in early 2023.” The post included an image suggesting Harris wore “Nova H1 audio earrings.” Another post declared: “BUSTED! SHE’S WEARING EARPHONE EARRINGS,” featuring photos of Harris’ pearl earrings next to an image of Nova H1 audio earrings. These accusations, however, are not supported by any credible evidence.
Debunking the Claims with Facts

In fact, multiple reputable sources have countered these claims with evidence proving them false:
Community Response on Social Media: On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a community note attached to one of the posts clarified, “Rumors are unfounded, Harris wore earrings by Tiffany & Co. that she has worn many times before,” not Nova H1 audio earrings. This crowdsourced note provides direct rebuttal from the online community itself, identifying the earrings as being part of the Tiffany HardWear collection.
Fashion Analysis by “What Kamala Wore”: Susan E. Kelley, founder of the blog “What Kamala Wore,” which covers Harris’ fashion and style choices, wrote on September 11 that Harris wore her “South Sea Pearl Earrings from the Tiffany HardWear collection” during the debate. The article includes photos of the earrings Harris wore, which have an open setting below the pearls, distinctively different from the Nova H1 audio earrings seen on the company’s website. Kelley stated, “There was a bizarre narrative being pushed last night claiming the Vice President wore earrings with an audio receiver. I am comfortable stating that was clearly not the case; these are the same Tiffany earrings she has worn for months.”
No Evidence of Assistive Devices: The Harris campaign did not provide an official comment on the specific allegations regarding audio-equipped earrings, but previous investigations into similar claims against other political figures have consistently found no evidence of any hidden listening devices. For instance, in 2016, PolitiFact debunked claims that Hillary Clinton wore an earpiece during her debates, and in 2020, similar accusations against Joe Biden were dismissed after closer scrutiny revealed no such device.
Repetition of Unfounded Conspiracy Theories
Claims that political candidates are secretly using assistive audio devices have become a recurring theme in U.S. elections. The New York Times has reported on “The Long History of ‘Hidden Earpiece’ Conspiracy Theories,” noting that such unfounded allegations date back at least to 2000, when Rush Limbaugh claimed Democratic nominee Al Gore used an earpiece for coaching during a television appearance.
PolitiFact, a fact-checking organization, has labeled the current claim against Harris as “Pants on Fire!”—a term used to signify a claim that is blatantly false. Caryn Baird, a PolitiFact researcher, reiterated that there is “no evidence whatsoever” to support the idea that Harris wore any kind of audio device during the debate.
Conclusion: No Basis for the Claims
All available evidence indicates that the claims about Kamala Harris wearing assistive earphones during her debate with Donald Trump are entirely without foundation. Harris wore her familiar Tiffany & Co. pearl earrings, not the Nova H1 audio earrings alleged in viral social media posts. These rumors follow a long pattern of similar unfounded claims that have targeted various candidates in past elections.
Until verifiable evidence is presented, these allegations remain baseless, and social media users are encouraged to scrutinize such claims critically.

Renowned Thobela FM radio presenter, Skhumbuzo Mbatha, was robbed of his valuables at gunpoint by unknown suspects on Sunday night, September 8. The incident occurred around 22:30 on the N17 ramp into N1 in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
In a detailed social media post, Mbatha recounted the harrowing experience, stating that two individuals, speaking in an “overtly foreign language,” pointed a gun at him and searched him for approximately 10 minutes. The robbers made off with his two phones and other valuables.
Mbatha, who co-hosts Ntshirogele and plays Mpho Manaka on Skeem Saam, expressed that he is still shaken by the ordeal. “I am not fine, I had guns pointed at me for a good 10 minutes,” he said. The robbers forced him to walk towards an old mine dump, where they thoroughly robbed him, before instructing him to drive away on his bike without looking back.
The incident has left Mbatha traumatized, and he is still coming to terms with the experience.
Three women from Nyanga, who were captured on camera brutally assaulting a fellow woman, have been released on remand after appearing in court on Tuesday. The trio was arrested on Monday following a viral social media video of the assault.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Deputy Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Blessmore Chishaka, confirmed the arrest, stating, “We noted the public’s concerns over the video and confirm that the incident occurred in Nyanga. The three women have been arrested, appeared in court, and the matter is being addressed.”
The video shows an unidentified woman accusing the victim of cheating with her husband, “Baba Oliver.” Despite the victim’s attempts to defend herself, the woman, joined by two others, violently assaulted her.
This incident comes after six teenagers were arrested and convicted in July for assaulting a female colleague in Hwedza.
