Breaking News: Massive SADC Demonstration Scheduled in Lusaka, Zambia
Lusaka, Zambia — July 10, 2024
By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | In a significant development, Lusaka is set to host a massive protest organized by Zimbabwean citizens and regional activists. The demonstration, planned for July 11 and 12, 2024, aims to draw attention to the ongoing political and human rights issues in Zimbabwe. The protest is set to take place at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, starting from 08:00 to 14:00 on both days.
The demonstration comes at a critical juncture as Zimbabweans and concerned regional parties approach the Southern African Development Community (SADC) over the delayed release of the official report on the 2023 Zimbabwean elections. The report, which has been the subject of much anticipation, is expected to address numerous allegations of electoral fraud and irregularities purportedly overlooked by the incumbent president, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Zimbabwe has been under intense scrutiny following the 2023 elections, which many international observers and local opposition parties claim were marred by significant irregularities and instances of voter suppression. The unrest and dissatisfaction have only grown as the government, led by President Mnangagwa, has been accused of ignoring calls for transparency and accountability.
Protest Objectives
The organizers of the protest, under the banner “Rise Up Zimbabwe,” have articulated several key objectives for the demonstration:
Demanding Accountability: Protesters are calling for SADC to expedite the release of its comprehensive report on the 2023 elections, which they believe will confirm the widespread allegations of electoral misconduct.
Addressing Corruption and Nepotism: The demonstration seeks to highlight and combat the endemic corruption and nepotism within Zimbabwe’s political system.
Advocating for Human Rights: Protesters are urging regional and international bodies to take a firmer stance on the human rights abuses allegedly perpetrated by the Zimbabwean government.
Regional Implications
The protest in Lusaka underscores the regional implications of Zimbabwe’s internal political struggles. Zambia, as a neighboring country and a member of SADC, plays a crucial role in facilitating dialogue and potentially mediating the crisis. The involvement of SADC is particularly significant as it has historically been a key player in addressing regional conflicts and ensuring stability within the member states.
Security Measures
Given the expected turnout and the high-profile nature of the event, extensive security measures have been put in place. The Zambian government has assured that it will facilitate a peaceful protest while maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all participants.
Conclusion
As the protest approaches, all eyes will be on Lusaka, where the voices of Zimbabweans and their regional supporters will seek to make a powerful statement. The outcome of this demonstration could significantly influence the political landscape in Zimbabwe and potentially prompt decisive action from SADC and other international bodies.
Stay tuned for live updates and coverage of the protest in Lusaka, as the situation continues to evolve.
By Tozvireva Masango- President Emmerson Mnangagwa is constructing a multi-million dollar personal mansion in the exclusive Hellensville neighbourhood of Harare, raising serious questions about the source of his vast wealth.
Located on Wheeleon Road, the palatial property is being built by the Chinese company Zim Nantong Construction.
Spanning 25,000 square meters of prime urban land, the project has been ongoing for the past five years and includes eight cluster houses at various stages of completion.
The luxurious construction project came to public attention on Tuesday after police officers guarding the premises fired warning shots at suspected thieves who attempted to break into the property on Saturday night.
Mnangagwa, widely regarded as the richest man in Zimbabwe, is believed to control significant portions of the nation’s economy.
His fortune is reportedly built on corrupt mining operations, particularly in gold and diamonds, conducted in partnership with the military in Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
At the turn of the millennium, Mnangagwa, along with the late General Sibusiso Moyo and the late Airforce Commander Perrence Shiri, was named in a United Nations report as a chief looter of diamonds in the DRC.
In 1998, while serving as Justice Minister, Mnangagwa convinced the late President Robert Mugabe to deploy soldiers to the DRC under the pretense of solidarity with the late DRC President Laurent Kabila.
Further allegations of corruption surfaced in 2015 when Mugabe accused Mnangagwa of stealing US$15 billion in diamond revenue, which the Chinese mined under military management in Marange.
The stolen diamond money is believed to have funded the 2017 coup that ousted Mugabe, consolidating Mnangagwa’s grip on power.
This extravagant mansion stands as a stark symbol of Mnangagwa’s controversial legacy, built on a foundation of corruption and exploitation.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) condemns the recent actions taken by the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture under the leadership of Minister Gayton McKenzie, which have unjustly victimised the talented and hardworking artist Makhadzi.
This situation arose from a promise made by the Minister, in his eagerness to appease public sentiment, to cease what he termed the “wasting” of money on official supporters.
When the department faced backlash over this promise, questions were raised about their lack of support for Makhadzi’s trip to the United States of America to receive her BET Award for Best New International Act, where she represented South Africa with distinction.
Instead of addressing their stance on official supporters, the department chose to deflect by disclosing the amounts of money they paid to Makhadzi for her performances and appearances. This attempt to portray these payments as a form of support is both disingenuous and reprehensible.
Let us be clear: the payments made to Makhadzi were for professional services rendered, not gratuitous support. To insinuate otherwise is to undermine her achievements and hard work.
The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture should focus on addressing the numerous instances of mismanagement and corruption within their purview, particularly by top politicians, rather than targeting a successful black woman who has brought pride to our nation.
It is common knowledge that this department has consistently failed to support artists adequately. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the EFF who stepped in to provide the necessary aid to struggling artists when the department fell short.
This department has even earned the moniker “Department of Condolences” due to its tendency to offer platitudes rather than tangible support.
We call on the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture to redirect their efforts towards eradicating the wasteful expenditure and corruption that plague their operations, and begin to implement programmes that actually support artists.
Additionally, Minister McKenzie must stand by his commitments without scapegoating artists like Makhadzi, who embody the excellence of our nation’s creative sector.
The EFF stands in full support of Makhadzi and all artists who tirelessly work to elevate South African arts and culture on the global stage.
We demand that the department retract their misleading statements and issue a formal apology to Makhadzi for their baseless and damaging insinuations.
It is time for the department to genuinely support our artists and uphold the dignity of their contributions to our national heritage.
By A Correspondent| Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Senator Jameson Timba and Avondale 77 have been further remanded in custody to the 24th of July.
The case appeared in court at 8:30 AM, as opposed to the previously publicized time of 11:00 AM.
The bail appeal in the High Court has been set for tomorrow, 11th July, at 9:00 AM before Justice Mungwari.
Shots were fired after thieves broke into President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s private residence in the exclusive Hellensville neighbourhood in Harare on July 6.
It is the third break-in targeting the Mnangagwa family in just two weeks after similar incidents at the home of his son and deputy finance minister David Mnangagwa, and at the office of his nephew Tongai Mnangagwa, the deputy tourism minister.
A man from Domboshava who allegedly raped and robbed women whom he lured using non-existent jobs has been nabbed and arraigned before a Harare magistrate.
25-year-old Willard Kudakwashe Jonifati, who advertised fake jobs on a WhatsApp group and took advantage of women who showed interest in the jobs, ran out of luck when he was nabbed for rape and robbery.
It is alleged that he used the same modus operandi on two of his victims who reported him to the police.
The court heard that he would lure his victims to secluded areas where he repeatedly raped them before robbing the women of cash and valuables.
He was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Meanwhile, in another case, Tedius Mhungira aged 35 is facing charges of armed robbery after breaking into a safe at a local company, stealing over US$200 000.
The accused allegedly threatened to shoot the security guard manning the premises before breaking into the office where he and his alleged accomplices who are still at large stole the cash.
He was remanded in custody pending trial.
In another case, fraud accused businessmen, Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu remain in custody pending the finalisation of their bail hearing.
The pair is accused of fraud involving more than US$7 million they received from the government to buy goats for the Presidential Goat Scheme.
In a recent operation, Zimbabwe Republic Police raided and dismantled a marijuana plantation in Kuruwa Village, Gokwe, leading to the arrest of three individuals: Brain Kuruwa (36), Talkmore Muzondiwa (30), and Shylet Magigani (32). The raid, conducted on 3rd July 2024, resulted in the seizure of 67 marijuana plants and 170 kg of loose marijuana.
Additionally, authorities uncovered and confiscated 6,700 marijuana plants cultivated along the Svisvi River in Gokwe.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the individuals responsible for these extensive garden operations.
The crackdown underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal drug cultivation and trafficking in Zimbabwe.
Such operations are crucial in maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law.
Further updates on the investigation are expected as authorities work to identify and prosecute those involved in the illicit cultivation activities.
The recent Policy and Co-ordination meeting at the Zanu PF Party HQ, addressed by Secretary General Dr. Obert Mpofu, shed light on a troubling reality: Zimbabwe’s ruling party continues to grapple with accusations of widespread corruption and mismanagement. As preparations intensify for the upcoming 21st National People’s Conference in Bulawayo this October, concerns over governance and accountability loom large.
The meeting, portrayed by critics as nothing more than a facade for endorsing looting, anarchy, and chaos, underscores deep-seated issues within Zanu PF.
The term “fat cats” has become synonymous with those in power who allegedly exploit their positions for personal gain, draining the nation’s resources while the majority struggle to make ends meet.
Dr. Obert Mpofu’s address, while focusing on logistical details for the upcoming conference, failed to quell mounting discontent both within and outside the party. Zimbabweans, weary of economic hardships and a crumbling infrastructure, are increasingly vocal about their frustrations.
Many view the party conference as a stage for the elite to consolidate power rather than a forum for addressing critical national issues.
The choice of Bulawayo as the conference venue raises eyebrows, given the city’s historical significance and current socio-economic challenges. Some critics argue that holding such a high-profile event in Bulawayo should symbolize a commitment to addressing regional disparities and economic inequalities.
However, skepticism persists regarding whether Zanu PF’s leadership will prioritize genuine reform or continue with business as usual.
At its core, the upcoming conference serves as a litmus test for Zanu PF’s ability to adapt and respond to the pressing needs of Zimbabweans. Calls for transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance have echoed across the nation, with civil society organizations and opposition voices demanding meaningful change.
As Zimbabwe navigates turbulent waters, characterized by economic uncertainty and social unrest, the role of Zanu PF in shaping the country’s future remains pivotal.
Beyond rhetoric and political maneuvering, Zimbabweans yearn for tangible improvements in their daily lives—accessible healthcare, quality education, and sustainable job opportunities.
The 21st National People’s Conference must not be reduced to a mere spectacle of power and influence.
It must serve as a catalyst for genuine dialogue and concrete actions aimed at rebuilding trust between the government and its citizens.
Only through meaningful engagement and responsible leadership can Zimbabwe chart a course towards a more equitable and prosperous future.
In the coming months, all eyes will be on Bulawayo as delegates gather under the banner of Zanu PF.
Their decisions and commitments will reverberate far beyond the walls of the conference venue, shaping the socio-political landscape of Zimbabwe for years to come.
Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change, has urged everyone to support Zanu PF leader Mr. Emmerson Mnangagwa’s upcoming assumption of the SADC Chairmanship.
However, political observers have labelled Tshabangu as a protege of Zanu PF.
In a statement on Monday, Tshabangu expressed his stance: “This August, our country will host a summit for SADC nations, where Zimbabwe will have the honor of chairing the bloc.
This move is crucial for strengthening bilateral relations among member countries. As the opposition, we welcome Zimbabwe’s chairmanship.”
Tshabangu’s endorsement of Mnangagwa’s leadership in SADC comes amid ongoing political developments within Zimbabwe, where the Citizens Coalition for Change is positioning itself as a significant player ahead of national elections.
The SADC summit, scheduled for August, is anticipated to provide Zimbabwe with a platform to foster regional cooperation and address pertinent socio-economic issues affecting member states.
Observers continue to scrutinize Tshabangu’s alignment with Zanu PF, questioning the implications of his support for Mnangagwa’s regional leadership role amidst domestic political dynamics.
As preparations for the summit progress, stakeholders are closely monitoring how Mnangagwa’s chairmanship will impact Zimbabwe’s foreign policy and regional standing within the Southern African Development Community.
Another Zimbabwean prospect has signed his first professional contract at English Championship side Cardiff City.
Dakarai Mafico agreed to his first pro terms at the club to join fellow countryman Tanatswa Nyakuhwa, who has signed a similar deal.
Mafico is related to football commentator Steve Vickers. He was born in the UK to Zimbabwean parents.
City confirmed the news on their website, saying: “Dakarai Mafico has extended his stay following a season of real progress in the 2023/24 campaign.
“After making an impression for the U18s and U21s, the midfielder was included on the First Team bench on the final day of the season against Rotherham United.”
Speaking after signing the deal, the youngster said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed a professional contract. I’ve been working so hard going through the age groups, it’s been an enjoyable time at the Club so far and I can’t wait for more opportunities to come. It was a really positive season for me individually. I played for the U18s a lot, but also stepped in to the U21s.
“Being on the bench for the First Team against Rotherham just topped it off. It was probably the highlight of my season. I’m hoping to get more opportunities next season if they come, but at the moment, all I’m focusing on is working hard and giving everything my all.”

By Municipal Reporter- The Sengezo Tshabangu CCC-run Harare City Council is cracking down on what it calls the growing number of bottle stores in the city centre.
The council says these bottle stores have been linked to chaos and unsanitary conditions.
It says complaints include bottle stores staying open past the mandated 8pm closing time, patrons harassing people, public urination and traffic congestion caused by the stores. Council spokesperson Mr Stanely Gama told the state media that the lawlessness caused by the bottle stores must stop. “We have identified stores with expired licenses. These licenses will be rigorously reviewed before renewal,” he said.“Stricter regulations are being implemented to make it harder for problematic bottle stores to obtain licenses. Additionally, unlicensed stores will be shut down. “Residents are encouraged to report such issues to the City Council. By working together, the city aims to restore order and maintain the beauty of Harare.”
By Political Reporter- The leader of the MDC, Douglas Mwonzora, has attacked the Welshman Ncube-led Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) and its Members of Parliament for supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s third-term plans.
Chamisa left the contaminated CCC early this year after Zanu PF implants frustrated him.
Mwonzora in Bulawayo at the weekend told reporters that Mnangagwa’s recent assertion that he will not seek a third term and will retire at the end of his second and final term in 2028 was a lie.
He alleged that the CCC lawmakers have tacitly approved Mnangagwa’s purported plans to remain in power beyond the constitutionally mandated two-term limit. Said Mwonzora:
The president’s party, ZANU PF, is talking about his presidential term ending in 2030. We know they want to extend the term of office by another term but their ZANU PF lawyers are aware that extending a term may be difficult so they want to extend the presidential term to say it is not five years but now seven years.
Most of their leaders are in agreement. This is selling out Zimbabwe’s constitution, and the people and is selfish because these MPs want to stay in Parliament for as long as possible.
Others have left their political parties to form another party, abandon it, form another one and the people who arerunning this project are former officers from the Border Gezi masquerading as the opposition. They are busy taking the opposition for the ride.
Mwonzora substantiated his claims that CCC is heavily compromised by citing circumstantial evidence. He said:
There is a legal phrase res ipsa loquitur meaning facts speak for themselves. Don’t you see they are compromised? Don’t you see they have a given Emmerson Mnangagwa two-thirds majority?
Don’t you see the leader of the CCC was quiet when the recalls were done? Right now CCC in Parliament have not spoken against the third term, I dare them to speak against the third term.
Mwonzora acknowledged that during his tenure as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, he would occasionally meetwith Mnangagwa and “never made a secret of it”, in contrast to the CCC leaders who have reportedly been hosted at lavish banquets at State House. He said:
I would go to meet him as leader of the opposition but never, never did President Mnangagwa or his wife throw a party for me.
President Mnangagwa’s wife threw a party for the CCC MPs in the State House. What more evidence do we require?
Our brothers and sisters have been compromised and are supporting the third term, supporting the extension of the term of President Mnangagwa.
They have not spoken against a third term, they have actually agreed that Mnangagwa must extend his term. Let them come out and deny it. They have not denounced it.
However, Mwonzora’s allegations against the CCC appear to be a case of the pot calling the kettle black, as he himselfpreviously supported a constitutional amendment while he was the leader of the opposition in Parliament.
In 2021, Mwonzora defended MDC lawmakers for joining ZANU PF MPs in supporting a constitutional amendment that removed the requirement for a presidential running mate, extended the women’s quota, and removed the 70-year retirement age cap for judges.

Police last Saturday barred the MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora, from conducting a walkabout in Bulawayo.
He had planned to lead his delegation, visiting Nkulumane Complex, Sekusile and Cowdray Park on 6 July to interact with traders and provide residents with the MDC-T programme of action.
In a prohibition order signed by the Nkulumane district commanding officer, Chief Superintendent Chrispen Kapita, the police cited lack of manpower for the ban.
Mwonzora convened a hasty presser at the Royal Hotel Media Centre where he condemned the walkabout ban.
“We made an application for a walkabout in five districts and the police barred me and only allowed us to hold a meeting at the (party) headquarters (in Bulawayo),” Mwonzora told journalists at the news conference.
By A Correspondent| Econet Zimbabwe, a leading mobile network service provider, has recently come under fire for its lack of inclusivity and diversity in its events and programs. The company’s decision to exclude local musicians from Matabeleland and online content creators from its Vic Falls marathon and other events has raised eyebrows and sparked outrage.

We urge Econet Zimbabwe to rethink its approach and embrace inclusivity and diversity in all its forms. By doing so, the company can tap into the vast potential of Zimbabwe’s creative industry and online community, leading to more innovative and impactful initiatives.
Let’s work together to build a more inclusive and diverse media landscape, where everyone has a chance to thrive.
In a tragic incident, a 31-year-old mother and her 26-year-old boyfriend have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 4-year-old boy. The couple stands accused of killing the toddler and burying him in a shallow grave on the outskirts of Boitekong, near Rustenberg in North West province.
The disturbing revelation came to light after residents of Extension 4 noticed the child had been missing for an extended period. Neighbors had last seen the boy in July 2023, prompting concerns within the community. When questioned, the mother reportedly gave conflicting accounts, raising further suspicions.
Community members, alarmed by the situation, sought the assistance of their local councillor. Confronted by the councillor, the mother purportedly confessed to her involvement in the child’s death. Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has congratulated the UK’s Labour Party on their landslide victory in the general elections, hailing it as a triumph for democracy.
Chamisa praised the peaceful transfer of power, saying it was “refreshing and inspiring to witness democracy in action” and emphasized the importance of citizens’ voices being heard.
In a statement on Sunday, Chamisa said: “CONGRATULATIONS…I sincerely and heartily congratulate the new UK Prime Minister Sir @Keir_Starmer, and the @UKLabour party on the landslide victory they recorded in the General elections.
After witnessing the seamless UK election I wish to congratulate everyone that participated in the electoral process. This is a win for democracy, a win for better ideas and indeed a win for the whole world.”
Chamisa also expressed his hope for strengthened ties between Zimbabwe and the UK, saying: “It is our fervent hope that the new UK government will promote stronger ties between Zimbabwe and the UK…
We look forward to our working together in strengthening our diplomatic and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses, investment and transformation in both countries.”
His comments come as Zimbabwe faces its own struggles with democracy, including disputed elections and authoritarianism. Chamisa’s statement highlights the importance of democratic values and the need for international cooperation to build a better world.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating two separate cases of suspected murder.
On July 5, 2024, at approximately 1500 hours, Shiellah Utete, a 32-year-old woman, was found deceased in a bush near Maldon Compound, Chikari, Chegutu. The preliminary investigation suggests that her ex-husband, Watson Musika, 40, allegedly struck her with an axe, causing fatal injuries.
The suspect was later found unresponsive in his residence and is believed to have ingested a toxic substance.
In a separate incident, the remains of a 16-year-old female juvenile were discovered in a bush near Gremlin Farm, Karoi on July 4, 2024.
The victim had been reported missing on March 18, 2024, while on her way to school.
The ZRP is working to determine the circumstances surrounding both cases.
In recent remarks by former Tourism Minister Engineer Walter Mzembi, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s political maneuvering has come under scrutiny. Mzembi characterizes Mnangagwa as a shrewd operator, questioning the sincerity of his recent statements regarding retirement plans.
Mnangagwa’s assertion that he intends to adhere to constitutional term limits and retire by 2028 was met with skepticism by Mzembi, who dismissed it as a calculated public relations move. Mzembi expressed his doubts in a post on X, stating:
“Announcing that he will abide by the Constitution and serve his two terms and retire by 2028 is a very good PR Stunt by ED.
But we all know that cunning individuals often have hidden agendas waiting for the right moment to reveal their true intentions!”
Mzembi’s criticism gained traction when Mnangagwa referred to himself as “Munhumutapa,” an ancient title for the rulers of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe. Mzembi interpreted this self-reference critically, stating:
“His script was flowing smoothly until he punctuated it by referring to himself as Munhumutapa! Munhumutapas are Kings; they die in office.”
Mzembi’s commentary underscores broader concerns about Mnangagwa’s political ambitions and the public’s trust in his statements.
The comparison to historical figures like Munhumutapa invokes a narrative of entrenched leadership and potential reluctance to relinquish power.
As Mnangagwa navigates the complexities of public perception and political strategy, scrutiny from figures like Walter Mzembi serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in leadership.
The use of historical titles and promises of retirement are weighed against the backdrop of Zimbabwe’s political landscape, where trust and credibility are pivotal in shaping the country’s future.
This analysis highlights the ongoing dialogue surrounding Mnangagwa’s tenure and the implications of his declarations on Zimbabwe’s political trajectory.
By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe – In a shocking incident that has sent waves through the local community, a church in Chinhoyi was the target of a major theft on the night of July 6, 2024. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have confirmed that unknown suspects broke into the church offices located along Highway Drive, Mazari, and made off with a substantial amount of money.
According to a series of tweets from the official Zimbabwe Republic Police Twitter account, the perpetrators gained unauthorized access to the church premises under the cover of darkness. Once inside, they forcibly entered the church offices and managed to break open a safe, absconding with a staggering $35,000 in cash.
Investigators on the scene discovered a burnt fuse and traces of explosive residue, indicating that the suspects may have used explosives to breach the safe. This adds a worrying dimension to the crime, suggesting a high level of planning and sophistication.
The ZRP has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and report to the nearest police station. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events of the night and to bring those responsible to justice.
The theft has left the church community and local residents in shock, with many expressing their concern over the audacity of the crime. As investigations continue, the police are appealing for public assistance in solving this case.
This brazen heist highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures at vulnerable institutions and serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in combating organized crime. The community remains hopeful that the perpetrators will be swiftly apprehended and the stolen funds recovered.
Tendayi Darikwa has found a new club in England following his departure at Cypriot side Apollon Limassol.
Darikwa left Limassol after terminating his contract, just one year from his arrival.
The Zimbabwean defender has now joined English League One club Lincoln City on a free transfer.
The third-tier side confirmed the signing saying: “City have secured the signature of attacking right-back Tendayi Darikwa on a one-year deal with an additional one-year option.
“Darikwa brings with him bags of divisional experience having captained Wigan Athletic to the League One title in the 2021/22 season.”
Darikwa, 32, said after signing the contract: “I’m delighted to be here and have the deal done. The ambition of the football club stood out to me and it’s a club with great values.
“The club was so close to getting in the play-offs last season, and I feel we can build on that. I want to be a part of it, I want to help and hopefully we can do that together.
“I can pass my experiences over the years onto a young squad with plenty of talent. I can have an influence in the dressing room as we learn about each other on and off the pitch.”
Eddie Cross, a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s economy for over 60 years, highlights severe issues facing the country, particularly corruption. According to Mnangagwa’s biographer, who opposes tender-preneur Wicknell Chivayo, over USD 20 billion has vanished. Cross details significant corruption in diamond mining, fuel imports, and various governmental sectors, arguing that poor governance has impoverished Zimbabwe despite its wealth. He urges immediate attention to these problems, including tax system inefficiencies and underfunding of essential services.
FULL TEXT: Issues Facing us in Zimbabwe.
By Eddie Cross | I have been involved in the Zimbabwean economy for over 60 years and have seen just about everything during that period. The Federation, UDI, the liberation war, the transition to Zimbabwe, the total collapse in the years up to 2008, the MAT in 2017. In this period, we have made many mistakes, some deliberate, others just because we felt we had to and others forced on us. However right now there are some things that need our attention!
Perhaps the first is corruption. Despite the formation of the Corruption Commission and many declarations, we still suffer from massive leakages of economic output and income. When I was in Parliament in 2012, I raised the wholesale theft of diamonds from the newly discovered Marange diamond fields. These covered nearly 100 000 hectares and in that year I estimated that we produced more carats than Botswana.
Production from this alluvial deposit started in 2006 and continues today. It was discovered by De Beers and then a small public company in London, was taken over illegally by the Ministry of Mines and then exploited by 6 companies, all linked to powerful elements in the Government, including the State President. My personal estimate is that Marange has produced nearly US$30 billion in raw diamonds since then. A third was probably absorbed in costs but the rest has disappeared. Mr Mugabe famously asked where US$15 billion had gone since mining had started. He knew the answer to that as I think he personally took US$1,3 billion.
Then the ongoing corruption in the fuel industry. This started soon after Independence with the formation of a State trading organisation for importing and distributing fuel. This was dismantled in the GNU from 2009 to 2013 by an MDC Minister but was reinstated soon after Zanu took back power in 2013. These corrupt practices peaked in 2014 to 2017 when world market prices tanked but prices in Zimbabwe were held at a higher level. During this period the President was again a major beneficiary.
Since the Second Republic, this network of corruption has largely been dismantled by the new Government, but if you are as puzzled as I am as to the hundreds of new filling stations opening up – all as independents and wonder why? I am told they are money laundering but I think there are millions of litres of fuel entering the country and not paying taxes or levies. The loss to the Exchequer must be almost as much as we spend on health each year.
Largely because the Minerals Marketing Corporation was disabled by US sanctions, under pricing of exports has become endemic. The CEO of the Corporation was killed in mysterious circumstances and I am convinced it was because he was threatening illegal or under valued exports. The murder of the head of the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Authority was in similar circumstances.
Then there is the whole culture of corruption in every sector of the Governments activities. The news that a Clerk in a Ministry had used her senior signature to falsify imports of 3000 vehicles duty free, the loss to the exchequer must have been US$20 million. She has done a runner. In 2022 the State collected just US$484 million in custom duties at our borders, we imported US$1,4 billion in cars alone and over US$7 billion in all imports. Just do the math, the tax revenues should have been several times that amount.
It is well known that in certain Ministries if you want a decision of any sort, you have to pay for it. I was approached by a senior Civil Servant for a bribe to sign a letter, I said but surely that is your job. I was told “do you think we do this sort of thing for nothing”? I did not pay the bribe and did not get the letter. It has become a culture just as the former head of the Kenyan Anti-Corruption Agency wrote “it was our time to eat”.
This scrouge soon also infects the private sector. The statement by the Dubai Gold Exchange that in 2023 they bought nearly 450 tonnes of gold from informal origins in Africa. That is US$32 billion dollars’ worth, a third from Zimbabwe. No wonder we are awash in US dollars in cash. Right now, up to 700 000 small scale informal miners are out there mining gold to feed their families, that is why we do not really have a food crisis in what has been a disastrous season. But much of this huge flow of cash never comes home.
Add all this together and you can see why I argue we are a rich country, made poor by bad governance in both Government and the private sector. Just look at our informal sector, we are probably the most informalised economy in the world. That whole system does not pay taxes, does everything to avoid its obligations leaving the formal economy to support everything else.
But then also you have to try to understand why those companies who paid for foreign currency on the RBZ auctions have not been paid back after the auction was closed down. I understand all exporters are having 25 per cent of their gross export earnings liquidated, but no consequential payments in local currency are being made. How long can these vital companies to our economy survive? I simply do not understand this situation.
Surely also the State must understand that our tax system has far exceeded the level at which tax proceeds start to decline. The VAT on basic foods? Are we crazy? 30 per cent VAT tax on live cattle sales when the sellers (90 per cent rural peasants) do not have a current valid tax certificate? I think the young people rioting in Nairobi had a real case. The response by Ruto was measured and quick. We simply accept this totally unacceptable situation and go on with life as usual. Our Government needs to recognise that this situation simply cannot go on.

By Political Reporter- The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC has grabbed the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) political party Bulawayo offices.
The offices were used by the CCC faction aligned with Nelson Chamisa.
Mwonzora told reporters Sunday that the MDC was also awarded US$90,000 in compensation from the CCC by the courts.
The property, named the Gertrude Mthombeni House, is situated at Number 41 Fort Street between Second and Third Avenue in Bulawayo.
The party offices in question were named in honour of the late veteran trade unionist, who had also served as a national executive member of the original MDC party led by the late Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.
The offices have been used successively by the MDC, MDC-T, MDC Alliance, and most recently, CCC for their political activities and operations.
After Chamisa departed from the CCC in January 2024, youths associated with him took over the party’s offices, repainting the premises from the previous yellow colour to blue, and also hanging Chamisa’s portrait on the precast wall of the building.
The blue colour is associated with a new political movement being spearheaded by former CCC members Gift Ostallos Siziba and Moses Chibaya, who have claimed that Chamisa will eventually lead this emerging faction.
In response, the CCC faction led by Sengezo Tshabangu took legal action, seeking spoliation damages from Chamisa and his supporters over the unauthorised occupation and rebranding of the party offices.
Tshabangu and his colleagues argued that Chamisa’s supporters forcibly took “control, occupation, and possession” of the building by painting the whole offices and precast wall, which was “unlawful, prejudicial, and amounts to spoliation.”
However, in the latest development, the MDC has gained control, with the courts awarding Mwonzora’s party US$90,000 as compensation from the CCC. Said Mwonzora:
We were in Bulawayo to officially hand over our offices to the provincial leadership. As you know, our offices in Fort Street were occupied by criminals who came and took our offices and painted them yellow. Then the criminals came again and repainted them blue.
As the MDC, we thought enough was enough and decided to take our offices back.
One, the courts ruled that we must get our offices back, and two, the courts said the MDC must be paid US$90,000 by the CCC for having used these offices.
Mwonzora said that the party plans to utilise the anticipated US$90,000 it expects to receive from the CCC as part of its mobilisation efforts in the Matabeleland region.
Mwonzora added that the MDC will also move to reclaim its party offices in other areas such as Gwanda, Hwange, Gweru, and Kwekwe that were previously occupied by the CCC and its affiliates.
Furthermore, Mwonzora revealed that he had sent written notifications to Chamisa, Tshabangu, and Welshman Ncube informing them of the MDC’s intentions, but claimed that they did not respond to his correspondence. He added:
We are not talking about possession. We are talking about ownership, and we do own the property. It is in the name of the MDC.
We have the title deeds and bought this property from a prominent businessman in Bulawayo well before 2011 and well before the CCC was formed.
This was well before Sengezo Tshabangu became the Sengezo Tshabangu that we know today, well before Nelson Chamisa abdicated his party.
Political Reporter- Zanu PF members aligned with the party’s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, have launched attacks on Constantino Chiwenga, blocking him from entering the Presidential succession race.
In a video circulating on social media, Zanu PF Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha is heard chanting anti-Chiwenga slogans at a party meeting, making it clear that Mnangagwa is going nowhere.
This is despite Mnangagwa’s last week hinting that he was stepping down in 2028.

By Political Reporter- President Emmerson Mnangagwa has committed serious human rights violations and demonstrated a failure or unwillingness to institute lasting human rights reforms, a respected International rights body has said.
Human Rights Watch said Opposition members and civil society activists have borne the brunt of violence, intimidation, harassment, and repression, which appears aimed at restricting civic and political space in the country.
The past year, in particular, has witnessed the abduction and torture of several activists, as well as the weaponisation of the criminal justice system against the ruling party’s political opponents.
Human Rights Watch said the upcoming Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit must speak out against the intensified human rights abuses by Mnangagwa.
Harare is hosting the SADC summit in August, and Human Rights Watch has urged SADC to use the summit as an opportunity to address the deteriorating human rights situation in Zimbabwe and press the Mnangagwa government to end its crackdown on dissent and uphold fundamental freedoms.
Opposition politicians have been held in prolonged pretrial detention or convicted on baseless, seemingly politically motivated charges. Said Allan Ngari, Africa advocacy director at Human Rights Watch:
The government of President Mnangagwa is accelerating its crackdown against legitimate and peaceful activism ahead of the August summit.
The Southern African Development Community needs to engage with the authorities to take clear measures to ensure the enjoyment of basic freedoms by all Zimbabweans.
SADC should promote respect for human rights by calling upon Zimbabwe’s government to end repression and the arbitrary arrests and prosecutions of activists and opposition supporters.
The pervasive climate of intimidation and repression needs to end.
The heads of state of SADC’s 16 members are scheduled to convene for their 44th regional summit on August 17, 2024, in Harare.
At this gathering, Mnangagwa is poised to assume the chairmanship of the sub-regional organisation.
Chaos continues to stalk Harare giants Dynamos’ preparations for this Sunday’s eagerly-awaited league match against arch-rivals Highlanders at Rufaro, after players refused to train again this morning citing outstanding bonuses.
The two giants renew their rivalry at the iconic venue for the first time since 2019, but it is Dynamos who have been making headlines for the wrong reasons ahead of the clash.
For the fifth day in succession, Dynamos players downed tools at Alexander Sports Club and demanded to see club chairman Moses Maunganidze.
Some players are owed signing on fees while winning bonuses have been scarce this season.
Maunganidze later arrived and addressed the players but no comment could be obtained from him.

This morning, I attended a Roman Catholic fundraising gathering for Holy Sprit Church.
I thanked the church for playing a crucial role in terms of maintaining the moral fabric and spearheading development projects such as the St. Padres polyclonic, which has proven to be a game changer in terms of providing quality healthcare services in Norton.
I also took the opportunity to outline some of the development plans for our town, in particular the water projects.
Lastly, I emphasised the issue of unity towards development, and last but not least, I reinforced my resolve to address some of the challenges that the community is facing.
By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe – Econet Wireless has come under fire for alleged tribalism after it emerged that the company flew prominent Shona artists from Harare to perform in Victoria Falls, located in Matabeleland North, while excluding local talent from the region.
In a Facebook post, veteran broadcast journalist Ezra Tshisa Sibanda criticized Econet Wireless for neglecting local Matabeleland musicians in favor of artists from Harare. The post, which has sparked significant debate, accuses Econet of devaluing its customers in Matabeleland North and perpetuating tribal disparities.
“You are meant to be a national mobile network service provider yet you don’t value your customers nationwide,” Sibanda wrote. “To fly all Harare musicians to perform in Victoria Falls which is in Matabeleland North and leaving out local & Matabeleland musicians is a strong message that you don’t value people from this region.”
The event in question is the “Buddie Beatz Victory Show,” scheduled for July 7, 2024, at Baobab Primary School in Victoria Falls. The lineup features well-known artists such as Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Feli Nandi, Nutty O, Tocky Vibes, King Her, and Chiweddar DJ, all of whom are from Harare.
Sibanda’s post underscores the frustration felt by Matabeleland residents who feel overlooked and underappreciated. He emphasized that Matabeleland people, who use Econet’s services despite the high costs, deserve recognition and respect.
“Matabeleland people use your services which are so expensive just like all other Zimbabweans but your actions are evident enough you just want to milk their money and you don’t care, let alone value them,” he added.
The poster showing Winky D and a host of other Shona artists
The post has prompted a wave of reactions on social media, with many echoing Sibanda’s sentiments and calling for a more inclusive approach that respects the diverse cultural landscape of Zimbabwe.
As of the time of writing, Econet Wireless has not commented on the allegations. The silence from the telecommunications giant has only fueled the ongoing debate about tribal representation and fairness in Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry.
Calls for boycotts and demands for a response from Econet are growing louder as the community waits to see how the company will address these serious accusations.
For now, the spotlight remains on Econet Wireless and its handling of the situation, with many hoping for a resolution that promotes unity and respect for all Zimbabweans.
By A Correspondent| Zimbabweans in Cyprus have fallen prey to a pyramid scheme that defrauded thousands of people.
The suspected man behind the scheme has since been arrested by Cyprus authorities.
Victims in Zimbabwe alone reportedly invested US$146,396 into the scheme.
The pyramid scheme has since collapsed leaving thousands of people counting losses which run into millions of dollars.
According to Cyprus authorities, the suspect, posing as a representative of Metamax, allegedly lured investors with promises of substantial monthly returns, resulting in significant financial losses. Cyprus law enforcement agencies are now meticulously investigating the suspect’s bank accounts and other assets, as reported by Cyprus news agency Philenews.
“The complainants allege that the suspect, presenting himself as a Metamax representative in Cyprus, encouraged investments through videos, claiming to earn €30,000 monthly. So far, the authorities have received 11 complaints from various police departments,” Philenews reported. Dozens are calling the authorities daily, stating they have fallen victim to the scheme.
The suspect, an ex-police officer, appeared before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for eight days.
According to Panayiotis Mourides, head of the Limassol CID’s Economic Crime Investigation Office, Interpol Athens notified Interpol Nicosia on July 5 that Cypriot citizens were involved with Metamax.
An estimated 100 more statements are expected to be taken as part of the investigation. Investigators will examine various pieces of evidence, including the suspect’s and others’ mobile phones, the news agency added.
Allegations are that on July 5, the 54-year-old, accompanied by his lawyers, went to the Paphos CID, stating that his life and his family’s lives were in danger from individuals who sent him threatening messages, holding him responsible for their financial losses.
The suspect claimed he joined the platform in August 2023, initially investing $15 to evaluate advertisements. He stated that he invested $62 and earned €60,000, which was deposited in his Metamax account while his profits reached €130,000.
However, he claimed he was unable to transfer these funds to his bank account. The suspect professes ignorance of who created the platform, asserting that he is also a victim.
He mentioned that he recently traveled to the Philippines, invited for the inauguration of Metamax in Asia, where he realized he was in immediate danger.
Additionally, he stated that he had been communicating with a woman claiming to be from Canada, who showed him documents online indicating that Metamax was registered in Canada, convincing him to invest.
He denies having a leadership role in the group of Cypriot and Greek investors and rejects claims that he organized meetings to persuade unsuspecting citizens to invest.
Meanwhile, back in Zimbabwe, the fallout has left many in desperate circumstances, demanding answers and immediate action from the company.
In a leaked conversation between Metamax officials, Berith, a Metamax team leader for Zimbabwe, communicated her dire situation to Ms. Ava, a Metamax official.
Berith described the mounting pressure from friends and relatives who had invested in the scheme and were now demanding repayment. “My personal safety is under serious threat,” she pleaded, revealing that her team members, mostly from impoverished areas in Zimbabwe, had entrusted their life’s savings to Metamax, only to face delayed withdrawals and financial uncertainty.
Ms. Ava, acknowledging the company’s financial issues, urged calm but provided little reassurance or concrete solutions, leaving hundreds of Zimbabweans caught in the Metamax web licking their wounds.
This crisis underscores the devastating impact of financial fraud on vulnerable communities. Meanwhile, Metamax is said to have created a new platform, Traffic Ad, another Ponzi scheme selling packages that promise daily earnings, primarily targeting individuals in lower-income countries.
While the scheme may initially pay out, most investors reportedly do not withdraw their earnings and become trapped when the scam eventually collapses.

By Religion Editor | ZimEye | Ezekiel Guti, a prominent religious figure in Zimbabwe, has long been regarded as a spiritual leader by many. However, recent revelations and longstanding controversies surrounding his actions and associations cast a shadow over his suitability as a leader for Zimbabwean religion.
donning the corrupt Mnangagwa scarf… Ezekiel Guti leading worshippers in his pro ZANU PF religion
Allegations of Corruption and Mismanagement
Ezekiel Guti has been implicated in the infamous RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme scandal. According to reports, the scheme, which was intended to support agricultural productivity, turned into a conduit for corruption and financial mismanagement. High-profile individuals, including Guti, benefited from loans which were never repaid, thereby shifting the financial burden onto the taxpayers. This misuse of public funds is a clear violation of the ethical standards expected from a religious leader, whose role should be to uphold integrity and righteousness. As noted in a detailed report, “The RBZ debt assumption shifted the financial burden from the elite beneficiaries to the general taxpayers, exacerbating the country’s debt crisis” (New Zimbabwe, July 2023) oai_citation:1,EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme |oai_citation:2,BSR EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme – Part 2 – Big Saturday Read.
Covering Up Serious Crimes
One of the most damning accusations against Guti is his alleged cover-up of his brother Nelson’s paedophilia. Despite being convicted, Nelson remains a bishop in Guti’s church, a situation that raises serious ethical concerns. Protecting a convicted criminal, especially for such heinous crimes, undermines the moral authority of Guti and his religious institution. “Covering up such crimes within a religious institution not only undermines trust but also perpetuates injustice and abuse” (iHarare, June 2023) oai_citation:3,EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme |.
Promoting Superstitious and Dangerous Practices
Guti has also been accused of promoting superstitious practices that pose serious health hazards. Reports suggest that he encouraged his followers to believe in magic powers derived from corpse remains. Such teachings not only endanger public health but also exploit the gullibility of his followers, diverting them from rational and constructive beliefs. “These dangerous superstitions have no place in modern society and reflect a deep exploitation of vulnerable followers” (Big Saturday Read, May 2023) oai_citation:4,EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme |.
Political Associations and Moral Compromises
Guti’s close association with controversial political figures like Mnangagwa, whom he never condemned for alleged crimes, further tarnishes his image. A religious leader’s role includes being a moral compass for society, but Guti’s failure to distance himself from or speak out against political corruption and violence reflects poorly on his leadership. “The alignment with corrupt political figures deeply compromises the moral standing of any religious leader” (Spiked Media, April 2023) oai_citation:5,Zimbabwe’s RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme and its Contribution to the Public Debt Burden | Spiked.co.zw | Best Zimbabwe News Online.
Financial Exploitation of Followers
The financial exploitation of his followers through mandatory tithes, contrary to Biblical teachings that preachers should not live off their followers’ sweat, highlights Guti’s deviation from core Christian values. This practice of enriching oneself at the expense of one’s congregation is a significant betrayal of trust and a stark indicator of greed and self-interest. As criticized in various sources, “The use of religion to extract financial gain from followers is a gross misuse of spiritual authority” (iHarare, July 2023) oai_citation:6,EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme |.
Ezekiel Guti’s involvement in financial scandals, covering up crimes, promoting dangerous superstitions, aligning with controversial political figures, and exploiting his followers financially demonstrates a pattern of behavior that is unbecoming of a religious leader. His actions not only undermine the credibility of his religious teachings but also set a dangerous precedent for moral and ethical conduct within the religious community.
For Zimbabwean religion to foster genuine spiritual growth and moral integrity, it is imperative to hold its leaders accountable. Ezekiel Guti’s tarnished image and actions prove that he cannot be a good leader for the Zimbabwean religious community. The nation deserves leaders who exemplify the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, and it is clear that Guti falls short of these essential qualities.
The RBZ (Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe) Farm Mechanisation Scheme has been a significant point of controversy and discussion in Zimbabwe. This scheme, initially intended to empower farmers through the provision of agricultural equipment, has instead become a symbol of corruption and mismanagement, burdening the country’s taxpayers with substantial debt.
Background and Controversy
The Farm Mechanisation Scheme was designed to distribute agricultural machinery to farmers, ostensibly to boost agricultural productivity. However, it has been marred by allegations of misappropriation and lack of accountability. Many high-profile individuals, including politicians, judges, and businesspeople, benefitted from the scheme without repaying the loans, leading to a significant financial burden on the state. The total debt from the scheme, amounting to over a billion US dollars, was transferred to the taxpayer under the RBZ Debt Assumption Act oai_citation:1,EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme |oai_citation:2,BSR EXCLUSIVE: Beneficiaries of the RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme – Part 2 – Big Saturday Read.
The financial mismanagement associated with the scheme has had dire consequences for public services in Zimbabwe. Hospitals are under-resourced, with critical shortages of drugs and medical supplies. The education sector also suffers, with insufficient funding for essential services, exacerbated by the economic constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This situation has led to widespread public discontent, with many citizens demanding that the beneficiaries of the scheme be held accountable and made to repay the loans oai_citation:5,Zimbabwe’s RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme and its Contribution to the Public Debt Burden | Spiked.co.zw | Best Zimbabwe News Online.
The RBZ Farm Mechanisation Scheme represents a broader issue of governance and accountability in Zimbabwe. While intended to support agricultural productivity, its implementation has highlighted significant flaws in economic management and political integrity. As the country grapples with its debt crisis and the impact on public services, the call for greater transparency and accountability remains a crucial aspect of the national discourse.

Winky D: Local Hero or International Star? A Critical Examination.
By Showbiz Reporter | ZimEye | The debate over Winky D’s status as an international artist continues to rage, with opinions starkly divided. A recent comment by Morella Antonio has reignited the conversation, arguing that Winky D is virtually unknown outside Zimbabwe, with no presence in clubs, radio stations, or public places across Europe and America. Antonio’s perspective suggests that Winky D’s popularity is confined to Zimbabwean communities, even when he tours internationally.
Morella Antonio’s Argument:
Lack of Airplay and Public Presence: Antonio claims that none of Winky D’s songs are played in European or American clubs, radio stations, or public spaces. This assertion challenges the notion of Winky D’s international fame, suggesting his music doesn’t reach mainstream audiences abroad.
Diaspora Events: According to Antonio, when Winky D tours Europe, he performs primarily at events organized by the Zimbabwean diaspora. This implies that his fanbase outside Zimbabwe consists mainly of expatriates rather than a broader international audience.
Comparison to Other Genres: Antonio highlights the popularity of Afro Beats and Amapiano in international music scenes, contrasting this with Winky D’s perceived lack of presence. He references Rozalla Miller’s hit “Everybody’s Free” as the last notable international success by a Zimbabwean artist, underscoring a long gap in global recognition for Zimbabwean musicians.
Counterpoints and Broader Perspective:
While Morella Antonio’s comments reflect a certain viewpoint, it’s essential to consider the broader context of Winky D’s career and achievements:
International Awards and Recognition: Winky D has received several prestigious awards, such as Best Male Artist (Southern Africa) at the AFRIMA 2022 and Best Dancehall Artist at the 2020 African Entertainment Awards USA. These accolades indicate recognition beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
Global Reach of Music Platforms: In the digital age, music consumption is not limited to radio play or club hits. Winky D’s music is accessible on global platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music, reaching audiences worldwide who might not be accounted for in traditional metrics.
Cultural Influence: Winky D’s music often addresses social and political issues, resonating with listeners globally who appreciate his message and artistry. His influence extends beyond mere entertainment, contributing to a deeper cultural exchange.
Diaspora Support: While performing at diaspora events might seem limiting, it also highlights the strong connection Winky D maintains with Zimbabweans abroad. This support base can serve as a springboard for broader international engagement.
The debate over Winky D’s status as a local versus international artist is complex and multifaceted. Morella Antonio’s points reflect certain realities of the global music industry, where mainstream success can be elusive for many artists. However, Winky D’s achievements, international awards, and the availability of his music on global platforms suggest a more nuanced picture.
Ultimately, the measure of an artist’s success and influence cannot be confined to airplay statistics or the venues they perform in. Winky D’s impact, both within and outside Zimbabwe, speaks to a broader cultural significance that transcends traditional boundaries, making him a notable figure on the world music stage despite differing opinions.- ZimEye

In the dynamic landscape of Zimbabwean politics, Nelson Chamisa has once again sparked intrigue and speculation among his political adversaries. The opposition leader, known for his articulate rhetoric and strategic maneuvers, recently took to Facebook to deliver a cryptic yet poignant message.
A Message of Wisdom
On a tranquil Saturday, Nelson Chamisa posted a thought-provoking message that resonated deeply with his followers and supporters alike. Quoting Proverbs 2:6, he invoked the divine source of wisdom: “THE SOURCE OF ALL WISDOM.. Wisdom is a gift from God. ‘For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.’ Proverbs 2:6. Blessed Sabbath #Godisinit”
This post, laden with spiritual undertones, not only underscored Chamisa’s devout faith but also subtly hinted at a deeper meaning.
For seasoned observers of Zimbabwean politics, such messages often serve as a cipher for Chamisa’s next move or strategy in the political arena.
Chamisa’s deliberate use of biblical references is not without purpose.
Throughout his career, he has employed strategic ambiguity to keep his political foes guessing. By weaving spiritual insights into his public statements, Chamisa effectively communicates with various segments of Zimbabwean society, appealing not only to his political base but also to religious communities across the nation.
In a country where politics and spirituality are intertwined, Chamisa’s approach carries significant weight.
His ability to blend religious themes with political discourse not only enhances his appeal but also challenges the ruling establishment on a moral and ethical level. By invoking wisdom as a divine gift, Chamisa subtly positions himself as a leader guided by higher principles, contrasting with the often secular narratives of his opponents.
Beyond the immediate political implications, Chamisa’s Facebook post sparked a broader conversation on the role of spirituality in public life. Zimbabweans, facing socio-economic challenges and political uncertainties, often look to their leaders for guidance and inspiration. Chamisa’s invocation of wisdom from God resonates deeply in this context, offering a beacon of hope and moral clarity amidst the tumult of everyday life.
As Zimbabwe prepares for future political milestones, including elections and policy debates, Nelson Chamisa’s strategic messaging will undoubtedly continue to shape public opinion and influence national discourse.
His adept use of social media and religious symbolism ensures that his voice remains prominent and his intentions enigmatic to his adversaries.
Nelson Chamisa’s recent Facebook post exemplifies his astute political acumen and spiritual grounding. By leveraging biblical wisdom, he not only connects with his supporters on a deeper level but also maintains an aura of strategic ambiguity that keeps his political foes guessing. As Zimbabwe navigates its political future, all eyes will be on Chamisa to decipher the next move in this compelling political saga.
Turkey gave everything but this time it wasn’t quite enough.
Samet Akaydin gave them a deserved first-half lead, heading home Arda Güler’s delicious cross from the right, the assist of the month.
They were so close to going two goals up, only for Wout Weghorst of all people to deny Kaan Ayhan from six yards. Then they tired.
Weghorst then forced a corner that led to Stefan De Vrij’s equaliser, before Mert Müldür stopped Cody Gakpo from tapping home a dangerous Denzel Dumfries cross … but only by diverting the ball into the net himself.
Turkey had chances to equalise, Bart Verbruggen making a late point-blank wonder save from Semih Kılıçsoy, but they couldn’t find another goal to save themselves.
They’ve lit up this tournament with some gloriously entertaining football, and on another day maybe this match would have gone their way.
But it’s the Dutch who set up a semi-final against England, after digging themselves out of trouble with a thrilling second-half fightback. Even better than Turkey’s game with Austria? Maybe. Perhaps!
President Biden Declares Only “Lord Almighty” Could Convince Him to End Re-election Bid.

In a rare primetime interview aimed at addressing rising concerns within his own party, US President Joe Biden asserted that only the “Lord Almighty” could persuade him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Speaking to ABC News on Friday, Biden also declined calls to publicly release results of a cognitive test to reassure voters of his fitness for another term.
“I have a cognitive test every single day. Every day I have that test—everything I do [is a test],” Biden told interviewer George Stephanopoulos.
At 81 years old, Biden faces growing pressure from some Democratic officials and donors to step aside for a younger candidate, especially following a lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump last week. Despite this, Biden firmly rejected the idea, attributing his poor showing to exhaustion and a “bad cold.”
“I don’t think anybody’s more qualified to be president or win this race than me,” Biden stated, dismissing the notion that his age and health could hinder his campaign.
Throughout the interview, Stephanopoulos repeatedly questioned Biden on his capacity to serve another term. In response, Biden appeared more composed than during the debate but still exhibited a weak and occasionally hoarse voice.
Biden’s interview contrasted sharply with his spirited appearance at a rally in Madison, Wisconsin, earlier on Friday. Addressing the crowd, Biden acknowledged the fallout from his debate performance. “Ever since then, there’s been a lot of speculation. What’s Joe going to do?” he said.
“Here’s my answer. I am running and going to win again,” Biden declared, as supporters in the key battleground state cheered.

In a tragic incident, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) reported the death of four soldiers on duty in Orkney, North West, on Saturday, July 6. The soldiers, part of Operation Vala Umgodi targeting illegal mining activities, were found lifeless inside a container structure they used as a guard house. Crucially, all four soldiers had their rifles and personal items still with them at the time of their discovery.

(U.S. Army photo by Spc. Taryn Hagerman/Released)
The SANDF, in a statement released on Sunday, revealed that the soldiers were stationed on a 24-hour shift at Shaft 3, a dormant mining shaft near the disused Harry Oppenheimer stadium, a known hotspot for illegal mining. The bodies were discovered by the incoming shift on the morning of July 6 when the container doors were opened.
Upon inspecting the scene, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that all four soldiers had died, with their rifles and personal items still with them. This fact underscores the sudden and unexplained nature of their deaths, as there were no signs of struggle or external injuries.
A district surgeon examined the bodies on-site and found no injuries. Preliminary findings from the Pretoria FSL Chemistry Unit suggest that carbon monoxide poisoning, possibly from a fire made for warmth during the cold night, could be the cause of death. Despite this, the presence of their rifles and personal belongings indicates they were in their usual positions, emphasizing the unexpected and swift nature of the incident.
“The deceased members were found inside a container structure which was used as a guard house for those on 24-hour duty on the morning of July 6, 2024, when the next shift was taking over the following day, upon opening the doors of the container,” said the SANDF. “The SAPS was called in and upon inspection of the scene, all four had died, with their rifles on them and their personal items still with them.”
Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Angie Motshekga expressed her sorrow: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of these brave soldiers. Their dedication and service to our nation will never be forgotten.”
Deputy Minister Bantu Holomisa added, “We are deeply saddened by this loss. The fact that they were found with their rifles and personal items intact speaks volumes about their commitment and readiness to protect our country.”
Acting Secretary for Defence Dr. Thobekile Gamede remarked, “This tragedy underscores the dangers our soldiers face daily. Their loss is a profound blow to the entire defence community.”
SANDF Chief General Rudzani Maphwanya also shared his condolences: “We mourn the loss of our comrades who served with honor. Their untimely deaths remind us of the sacrifices made by our armed forces.”
The bodies have been transported to the Klerksdorp State mortuary for further investigation and post-mortems. The names of the deceased will be released once their families have been notified and all formalities completed.
The loss of these four soldiers, found with their rifles and personal items intact, marks a significant and somber moment for the SANDF and highlights the inherent risks faced by those on the front lines of operations like Vala Umgodi. The investigation continues to determine the exact cause of this tragic event.- Agencies
Nelson Chamisa Congratulates Keir Starmer on UK Election Victory.
Harare, Zimbabwe – By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | In a statement released earlier today, Nelson Chamisa, the leader of Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party for their landslide victory in the recent UK General Elections.
Chamisa expressed his admiration for the seamless electoral process in the UK, commending all participants for their role in upholding democratic principles. “This is a win for democracy, a win for better ideas and indeed a win for the whole world,” he stated, emphasizing the global significance of transparent and fair elections.
The Zimbabwean leader highlighted the importance of citizen empowerment through voting, noting, “It’s always refreshing and inspiring to witness democracy in action and see citizens empowered through the ballot. Citizens’ voices must always count and matter.”
Chamisa also voiced his hopes for stronger diplomatic and economic ties between Zimbabwe and the UK under the new Labour government. He pointed out Zimbabwe’s current challenges, including “illegitimacy, disputed elections, contested national processes, endemic corruption, and heightened authoritarianism,” and called for international collaboration to address these issues.
“The Zimbabwe-UK relations must be strengthened. We look forward to our working together in strengthening our diplomatic and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses, investment, and transformation in both countries,” Chamisa asserted.
In his concluding remarks, Chamisa expressed optimism for the future, stating, “We will endeavor to build a better world and a stronger commonwealth for all.”
Analytical Insight: A New Line of International Support for Chamisa
This congratulatory message not only signifies a gesture of goodwill but also adds a new dimension to Chamisa’s international support network. The acknowledgement of Keir Starmer’s victory marks Chamisa’s third notable international endorsement, following his previous support for leaders in the South African and Zambian elections.
In South Africa, Chamisa has been seen as an ally to key opposition figures, advocating for democratic reforms and transparency. His alignment with Zambia’s newly elected President Hakainde Hichilema also underscores his commitment to regional solidarity and democratic ideals. Hichilema’s victory was celebrated as a triumph over longstanding authoritarian rule, resonating with Chamisa’s own political aspirations in Zimbabwe.
By aligning himself with these leaders, Chamisa is strategically positioning himself within a network of regional and international allies who share his vision for democratic governance and economic revitalization. This growing coalition enhances his credibility on the global stage and could potentially bolster his influence in advocating for political and economic reforms in Zimbabwe.
Moreover, Chamisa’s engagement with international leaders reflects his broader strategy to garner external support, which could be pivotal in addressing Zimbabwe’s political and economic challenges. The backing of influential figures like Starmer, Hichilema, and South African opposition leaders could provide Chamisa with the leverage needed to push for significant changes within Zimbabwe.
In summary, Nelson Chamisa’s congratulatory message to Keir Starmer signifies more than just a diplomatic courtesy; it represents a strategic effort to strengthen his international alliances. As Chamisa continues to build a network of support from prominent democratic leaders worldwide, his position as a formidable advocate for change in Zimbabwe is undeniably reinforced.
Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent declaration that he is currently in his second and final term as Zimbabwe’s President has sparked renewed debate over his intentions and political future.
Mnangagwa made these statements during the inauguration of a Juice and Water production plant at Mutare Teachers College on Thursday, July 4.
Mnangagwa emphasized that both the Party and National Constitutions prescribe two-term limits.
“I am now working on my second and last term and was on my way to taking a deserved rest.”
Mnangagwa also asserted that the ruling party, ZANU PF, will select his successor at the appropriate time, highlighting the importance of party discipline and adherence to the party’s directives.
This announcement comes amidst speculation suggesting Mnangagwa’s potential interest in extending his presidency beyond the constitutionally mandated limit.
Previously, Mnangagwa had fueled speculation with statements like “2030 ndeendichipo” (meaning “I will still be there in 2030”), indicating a possible desire to remain in power beyond his second term.
Critics remain skeptical of Mnangagwa’s sincerity, with some expressing concerns about potential efforts to amend the constitution to facilitate a longer presidency.
The president’s latest remarks, however, appear to signal a commitment to respecting term limits and transitioning leadership within ZANU PF when the time comes.
In response to these developments, there has been varied public reaction, with some welcoming Mnangagwa’s affirmation of term limits as a positive step towards democratic governance, while others remain cautious, citing previous political maneuvers within the ruling party.
Mnangagwa’s assertion that he is serving his final term as president is seen as a pivotal statement that could shape Zimbabwe’s political landscape in the coming years, amidst ongoing speculation and scrutiny regarding his political ambitions and the future of leadership within ZANU PF.
In a controversial move amidst Zimbabwe’s deepening economic crisis and declining healthcare standards, Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has allocated luxury vehicles to the ZANU PF Youth League, purportedly to support youth empowerment initiatives.
According to a ZANU PF insider who spoke on condition of anonymity on Wednesday, the party’s Youth League received a fleet of posh vehicles directly from the President.
This allocation, which includes high-end cars, comes at a time when the country grapples with severe economic challenges marked by hyperinflation, unemployment, and shortages of essential goods.
The decision has sparked widespread criticism from opposition parties, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens who argue that such lavish expenditures are tone-deaf and insensitive to the everyday struggles faced by the majority of Zimbabweans.
Many have pointed out that the funds could have been better utilized to address pressing issues such as healthcare infrastructure, education, and poverty alleviation.
“The timing of this allocation couldn’t be worse,” remarked one political analyst, highlighting the contrast between the government’s spending priorities and the urgent needs of the population.
“While the youth empowerment is important, there are more pressing priorities that demand immediate attention, especially given the current state of our economy and healthcare system.”
Critics have also raised concerns about transparency and accountability regarding the acquisition and allocation of these vehicles, urging authorities to disclose the full details of the transaction and justify the expenditure in light of the country’s economic realities.
Meanwhile, the ZANU PF Youth League has defended the move, asserting that the vehicles will enhance their capacity to mobilize and engage with young people across the country.
They emphasize that the initiative is part of broader efforts to empower youth and strengthen grassroots support for the ruling party.
As public debate intensifies, the controversy surrounding Mnangagwa’s decision underscores deeper frustrations over governance and economic management in Zimbabwe.
With social discontent on the rise amid deteriorating living standards, the allocation of luxury vehicles to the ZANU PF Youth League is likely to remain a contentious issue, reflecting broader concerns about priorities and equity in national resource allocation.
By Municipal Reporter- The government has seized control of key operations and services from the Harare City Council, including waste management, public transport, and road rehabilitation, in preparation for the upcoming SADC summit in August.
These operations have been outsourced to dubious businesspeople closely linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his family.
ZimEye has obtained the names of some of these individuals, who have already received millions of dollars in advance payments.
On Sunday, state media defended Mnangagwa’s takeover of Harare city operations, claiming that the council was incompetent and unable to independently create the clean, safe, and conducive environment necessary for the regional summit.
Below is a blatant justification by the Sunday Mail of Mnangagwa’s corrupt seizure of Harare city operations to award tenders to his cronies:
This prompted the authorities to intervene. As part of the programme, 120 new refuse trucks are being procured for use by Harare and other local authorities. Additionally, major roadworks have commenced in several suburbs to minimise traffic congestion during and after the event. Property owners along Airport Road and roads leading to Mt Hampden — the main venue of the summit — have been given until July 31 to improve the outlook of their properties. The Government is also working on a plan to on-board the private sector in solid waste management after the council indicated that it was incapacitated. Overall, these improvements are intended to be part of a long-term programme of urban renewal in the capital city. Chief director of spatial planning and development in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works Mr Shingirayi Mushamba said the programme will continue even after the summit. “The living conditions of people is what we are targeting as we improve service delivery,” he said. “The SADC Summit will come and go, but what we really want to do is to use it as a launchpad. Whatever standard we achieve, we must maintain it going forward. “In fact, we must improve further.” While the Government has previously stepped in to support Harare, he said, it has now assumed a more prominent role in directly delivering services to residents. This is expected to ensure a marked improvement in service delivery and the overall outlook of the city. “What Government has successfully done thus far has been to work on the backend of the value chain, which is treatment of waste . . . “We have been successful with the Pomona waste-to-energy plant. “What we had not addressed was the waste generation and sorting. “We are buying refuse compactors for local authorities. Right now, we have a huge consignment that the ministry is procuring, which will be deployed to local authorities. “The target is about 120 compactors, which will be centrally managed and deployed to local authorities to ensure proper maintenance. “When it comes to Harare, in particular, Government is now working on modalities and models for waste collection, crowding in private sector participation after the City of Harare indicated that it is incapacitated. “Currently, we are undertaking Operation Chenesa Harare 2 and there are plans to launch Operation Chenesa Chitungwiza as well in the next few weeks.” Mr Mushamba said the Government was also determined to modernise Harare’s public transport system. The plan involves attracting private investment to rebuild the bus fleet currently servicing the capital. The second phase of the programme will witness a gradual transition towards a modern electric bus system, with negotiations underway to bring zero-emission vehicles onto the city’s roads. The final phase involves improving the infrastructure for these buses, including the ongoing road rehabilitation on major routes to reduce congestion and improve travel times, along with plans to upgrade bus termini across the city. “When it comes to public transport, there are about three elements that the Government is working on,” he said. “The first is to crowd in private sector participation . . . Government is working behind the scenes with financial institutions and transport operators to try and rebuild the available fleet. “We have also been looking at how we can modernise the rolling stock, moving away from diesel-powered engines to electric buses. “Again, we are at the negotiation stage, and they will soon start plying our routes.” He said there are also plans to modernise all roads. “Priority by Government is to ensure that all roads, which are major bus routes, are in trafficable condition so that the turnaround time is shortened,” added Mr Mushamba. “If the road is smooth and traffic lights are working, there will be less congestion. “This is what you are seeing happening. “Yes, it looks like preparation for the SADC summit, but it is not just about that. “The idea is to make sure the infrastructure for bus routes is well-maintained. “The next phase that we will be working on are termini. “Government will pay particular attention to bus termini across the major cities.” Zimbabwe will host the SADC summit from August 8 to 18.

Subject: Urgent Announcement – Exposing Wasu and Olga Bhati’s Malicious Activities
Dear Community,
My name is Derreck Gomoriya, a concerned community member, and I am writing to bring to light the fraudulent and malicious activities carried out by Wasu (Masimba Morepower Gombe) and his accomplice, Olga Bhati. Recent events have revealed a concerning pattern of deceit and theft that we believe the public needs to be aware of.
Wasu and Olga – file pic
Background
Wasu, known in the beauty industry as a makeup artist under the name “Wasu Makeup Artist NYC Glam,” has recently been involved in several dubious activities. Initially, Wasu gained sympathy when he was removed from a previous engagement with Mai Titi. A good Samaritan in our community, seeing his plight, offered to assist him by providing access to salon equipment stored in Harare.
The Deception
Unbeknownst to many, Wasu was using business funds to finance a personal trip to Cyprus, in collusion with Olga Bhati, the landlord of the cottage the good Samaritan was using. The deposit for this cottage was $400. However, Olga Bhati began advertising the cottage as vacant and sought tenants willing to pay more than $400, all while still in possession of the deposit and the Samaritan’s equipment.
Theft and Vandalism
Prior to Wasu’s departure to Cyprus, notice was given to Olga Bhati. However, instead of returning the deposit and respecting the Samaritan’s property, she and Wasu colluded to remove the salon equipment from the premises. It has been reported that some of this equipment was stolen and damaged, with Olga cutting the items with a knife.
Olga admitted to the police that she was acting on Wasu’s instructions to seize the goods, claiming it was to cover the money Wasu allegedly owed her. This act of theft and vandalism is currently under police investigation.
Call to Action
We urge anyone who has had dealings with Wasu or Olga Bhati to exercise caution and come forward with any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation. It is crucial that these individuals are held accountable for their actions to prevent further deceit and harm within our community.

Maybe. Perhaps!

By Diplomatic Correspondent – The new UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, has confirmed the reversal of the UK-Rwanda immigration deportation scheme, declaring it “dead and buried.”
On his first full day as Prime Minister, the Labour leader announced he would end the “gimmick” of deporting migrants arriving in the UK illegally to Rwanda, a policy established by the previous Conservative government.
The Rishi Sunak administration, under this scheme, targeted immigrants from Africa, planning to deport them to Rwanda.
The Conservative government excluded immigrants from European countries such as Ukraine and Russia, who were also arriving in the UK in significant numbers.
This exclusion made the scheme appear to be an anti-African or racist project.
Labour campaigned on a manifesto pledge to scrap the scheme, which has already cost around £310m, promising a more effective approach to tackling illegal immigration to replace it.
At his first press conference since entering Number 10, Sir Keir told journalists: “The Rwanda scheme was dead and buried before it started.”
He argued the scheme has “never been a deterrent” as it would only deport “less than1%” of small boat arrivals.
The financial implications of scrapping the scheme and the total bill to the taxpayer are not yet known.
Ending the scheme also leaves a question mark over the fate of 52,000 migrants earmarked for deportation.
The scheme was a key battleground during the final days of Rishi Sunak’s government.
The former prime minister made delivering the policy a key priority of his premiership, arguing it deterred people from crossing the English Channel in small boats.
Despite being announced two years ago by then-prime minister Boris Johnson, the Rwanda plan faced numerous legal challenges and never saw a flight take off.
The plans also faced a painful passage through Parliament, sparking numerous Tory rebellions.
As of 26 June, 13,195 people had come to the UK via small boat crossing in the Channel in 2024 – above the numbers for the same period in the previous four years.
Since 2018, nearly 120,000 people have come to the UK by this route.
He added: “Look at the numbers that have come over in the first six and a bit months of this year, they are record numbers, that is the problem that we are inheriting.
“It’s had the complete opposite effect and I’m not prepared to continue with gimmicks that don’t act as a deterrent.”
The new government has set illegal migration as one of their key priorities.
The Labour manifesto pledged to curb small boats crossing the Channel by hiring investigators and using counter-terror powers to “smash” criminal people smuggling gangs.
Labour has yet to reveal the full details of their scheme.
Earlier this year, Rwandan President Paul Kagame hinted that British taxpayers could be refunded if the deal collapsed.
Kevin Saunders, former chief immigration officer for Border Force, told Times Radio he was concerned about the lack of a clear plan from Labour on how to stop small boat crossings.
Mr Saunders, a Rwanda scheme supporter, said the plan had caused “unease in the camps in northern France”.
“They were very, very worried. And we saw people fleeing to the Republic of Ireland because they didn’t want to be included in it,” he said.
He predicted “between 50 and 60,000” illegal migrants could cross the Channel this year.
Major Setback for Walter Magaya Amid FIFA Sanctions
By Sports Reporter | ZimEye | In a development that could dampen his election as FIFA’s local president, Walter Magaya, the owner of Yadah Stars, has been slapped with a hefty fine by FIFA at a time he is preparing to apply for the ZIFA presidency candidacy.
Walter Magaya
FIFA has fined Magaya’s football club, Yadah Stars, a staggering US$82,000 for breaching expatriate players’ contracts. This significant penalty comes as a major blow to the Premier Soccer League side, which now also faces a potential ban from registering new players for three consecutive transfer windows if the fine is not settled by July 27.
The sanctions stem from Yadah’s improper handling of contracts with three Brazilian players: Joao Pedro Marques Barcellos, Juan Luciano Faria, and Deivid Pereira de Brito. The trio, who were unveiled with much fanfare on July 14, 2023, had their contracts terminated by Yadah under conditions FIFA deemed as “without just cause.”
The situation for Magaya, who has aspirations for the ZIFA presidency, has turned precarious as his club’s reputation takes a hit. The FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber ruled that Yadah must compensate each player US$19,580 plus 5% interest per annum from April 4, 2024, for breaches in their contracts. Yadah must also pay monthly compensation of US$1,220 to each player for the period they were unpaid, from November 2023 to April 2024.
The case highlights Yadah’s failure to meet contractual obligations, including unpaid salaries and unfulfilled travel arrangements, which led the players to file complaints with FIFA in May. Despite multiple notices and attempts for resolution from the players, Yadah did not rectify the breaches, resulting in the players seeking FIFA’s intervention.
FIFA’s detailed ruling included the following directive: “The respondent, Yadah FC, must pay to the claimant the following amount(s): US$19,580 as compensation for breach of contract without just cause plus 5% interest p.a. as from April 4, 2024 until the date of effective payment.”
Should Yadah fail to pay the fines within 45 days, they will face a ban from registering new players both locally and internationally for up to three transfer windows. This punitive measure not only threatens the club’s future but also casts a shadow over Magaya’s bid for ZIFA’s top position.
FIFA’s ruling also noted: “Pursuant to art. 24 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, if full payment (including all applicable interest) is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the following consequences shall apply: The Respondent shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid. The maximum duration of the ban shall be up to three entire and consecutive registration periods.”
Yadah chairperson Everson Chatambudza has not commented on the matter, though the club retains the right to appeal the decision. The sanctions come as a stark reminder of the stringent regulations governing player contracts and the severe consequences of non-compliance.
The impact of this ruling on Magaya’s candidacy for the ZIFA presidency remains to be seen, but it undeniably presents a significant hurdle. The controversy surrounding Yadah Stars and the fines imposed by FIFA could influence stakeholders’ perceptions as the election approaches.
Magaya, widely known for his ambitious vision for football in Zimbabwe, now faces a critical juncture in his career. The outcome of this situation will likely play a crucial role in his future endeavors within the football administration landscape.
By Municipal Reporter- Bogus business people linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa have seized tenders for procuring materials, equipment, and services used in rehabilitating the Central Busines Centre of Harare ahead of next month’s SADC summit.
This follows the government’s takeover of Harare’s operations from the opposition-led council.
Last week, the government assumed control of key services, including waste management, public transport management, and road rehabilitation.
Several Mnangagwa allies controversially secured contracts to provide these services on behalf of the Harare City Council.
One such individual is convicted robber and CIO operative Delish Nguwaya, who controversially received a multi-million dollar tender for refuse collection at the Pomana dumpsite.
Nguwaya is known to have close ties to the First Family.
Under the guise of preparing for the upcoming SADC summit in August, Mnangagwa has effectively taken control of Harare to award lucrative tenders to his allies for sprucing up the once “Sunshine City.”
State media reported that the Harare City Council would be unable to independently deliver the clean, safe, and conducive environment necessary for the regional summit, justifying Mnangagwa’s seizure of Harare.
Political Reporter- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has dropped his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, from the party’s succession list and subjected the process to internal voting.
It was widely believed that Mnangagwa would be succeeded by his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga.
The two reportedly made a gentleman’s agreement in 2017, when Chiwenga helped Mnangagwa oust the late President Robert Mugabe in a military coup, that Chiwenga would take over in 2028.
Through his spokesperson, George Charamba, Mnangagwa conveyed that he is currently serving his second and final term.
Charamba posted this announcement on his X account (handle: @dhonzamusoro007) on Thursday, following Mnangagwa’s commissioning of a juice and water production plant at Mutare Teachers College. Charamba’s post read:
“Speaking in Shona, the President, Dr. ED Mnangagwa, indicated that both the Party and National Constitutions provide for two-term limits. In his case, he is now working on his second and last term and is on his way to taking a deserved rest. When the time comes, added the President, ZANU PF will congregate to elect a new leader. This is what provides for national stability. He also stressed the need for adherence to Party line and Party discipline.”
This marks a notable shift from Mnangagwa’s previous stance.
A few years ago, he surprised the nation with the bold declaration, “2030 ndeendichipo,” which translates to “I will still be there in 2030.”
This sparked speculation about his intentions and the possibility of extending his stay in power beyond the two-term limit.
In the realm of football administration, leadership that blends passion with professionalism is a rare gem. Marshall Gore, a prominent figure in the United Kingdom’s football scene, has now set his sights on transforming the landscape of Zimbabwean football as he vies for the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
Gore’s journey into football administration spans over a decade, marked by his dedicated efforts through various organizations such as Team Zimbabwe, Bhora Africa, and the African Football Association. His commitment to nurturing the sport within the Diaspora speaks volumes about his passion and expertise in football management.
Recently, Marshall Gore made headlines by announcing his candidacy for the ZIFA presidency via social media channels. His campaign, though launched well ahead of the upcoming elections, resonates deeply with his vision of bringing a professional and sincere approach to football governance.
“This is not just a campaign, but a mission fueled by genuine love for the game,” Gore emphasized in a heartfelt video message to supporters. His platform is anchored in principles of service leadership, advocating for a revitalized focus on grassroots development and the elevation of women’s football.
Central to Gore’s agenda is the overhaul of domestic football administration, which he believes has suffered from years of mismanagement. His pledge to support the Premier Soccer League and enhance professionalism within the league underscores his commitment to raising standards across the board.
Moreover, Gore is acutely aware of the challenges faced by footballers, both active and retired. He has outlined ambitious plans to introduce medical insurance and pension schemes for players, recognizing the transient nature of a footballer’s career and the need for robust welfare structures.
“In my tenure, we will ensure that no player is left behind. From medical coverage to retirement benefits, our players deserve the best support,” Gore affirmed, outlining a comprehensive strategy to safeguard the interests of those who contribute tirelessly to the sport.
Looking forward, Marshall Gore’s candidacy represents a beacon of hope for Zimbabwean football, promising not just change but a transformative vision that prioritizes integrity, professionalism, and inclusivity. As the elections draw nearer, his message resonates with stakeholders across the football spectrum: it’s time for a new era of leadership that places the game and its participants at the forefront.
In conclusion, Marshall Gore stands poised to redefine football administration in Zimbabwe, guided by a steadfast commitment to excellence and a profound respect for the game’s traditions and its future. His candidacy embodies the promise of a brighter, more prosperous future for Zimbabwean football—a future built on principles of transparency, accountability, and unwavering dedication to the beautiful game.

Residents of Beitbridge expressed outrage on Monday over the distribution of elephant meat, alleging that government officials and members of the ruling Zanu PF party unfairly claimed the majority of the meat for themselves.
The controversy unfolded after Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Parks Authority) rangers euthanized two elephants at a council farm along the Limpopo River, citing safety concerns due to the animals’ proximity to the town.
According to eyewitnesses, the discord erupted when local residents were invited early in the morning to help skin and collect the meat from the elephants. However, tensions rose when government officials and council members reportedly arrived later in the day, commandeering a significant portion of the meat.
“We heard that the meat was being gathered for all civil servants and council officials. They came and loaded most of it into their trucks, leaving very little for those of us who had done the hard work of preparing the meat,” a resident told NewsDay Weekender.
Social media platforms buzzed with criticism from Beitbridge residents, condemning what they saw as an unfair distribution of the elephant meat.
“Taking advantage of their positions, government officials and even a vehicle from Zanu PF swooped in and took the lion’s share, leaving ordinary citizens with scraps,” another resident lamented.
Critics argued that the elephants had encroached into urban areas due to human settlement expansion, leading to sporadic conflicts and raids in Beitbridge East.
Parks Authority spokesperson Tinashe Farawo defended the decision to euthanize the elephants, emphasizing public safety concerns.
“We had to eliminate the elephants to protect residents, as they had become aggressive and were posing a danger,” Farawo stated.
Beitbridge, predominantly accustomed to wildlife encounters such as hippos and crocodiles, seldom deals with elephants venturing so close to town.
Albert Nguluvhe, a legislator representing Beitbridge East, denounced the perceived misconduct by government and Zanu PF officials.
“If true, this is unacceptable behavior, particularly when food is politicized. It’s important that transparency is maintained in such matters,” Nguluvhe commented.
The incident has sparked broader discussions among residents about wildlife management and equitable distribution of resources in Beitbridge, a town grappling with both economic challenges and occasional wildlife intrusions.

By Devine Mafa | In Zimbabwe, a nation grappling with the legacy of violent suppression, the leadership of Pastor Evan Mawarire and Nelson Chamisa presents a paradox. Despite the regime’s history of brutality, they advocate for a pacifist approach, which raises questions about their commitment to meaningful change.
Divine Mafa
The Limits of Pacifism
-Their support for stay-away protests and prayerful interventions amounts to a sanitized form of resistance, which fails to confront the status quo. By urging caution and inaction, they inadvertently perpetuate the power dynamics that have long favored the regime. The non-violent method, though well-intentioned, is inadequate against a regime that has consistently employed violence to maintain control.
Collaboration or Complicity?
Mawarire and Chamisa’s approach can be seen as a form of collaboration or complicity with the regime. By failing to challenge the status quo, they reinforce the power structures that have maintained Zimbabwe’s authoritarian political system. Their leadership undermines the potential for meaningful change and betrays the aspirations of the Zimbabwean people.
Zimbabwe requires leadership that will mobilize and empower the masses, rather than encouraging them to surrender to the regime’s whims. The pastors’ approach may be well-intentioned, but it is ultimately a betrayal of the revolution. To achieve true freedom and democracy, Zimbabweans must demand more from their leaders and reject the sanitized version of resistance offered by Mawarire and Chamisa.

By Political Reporter-Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has seized upon the death of Silas Takawira Mashupiko Masawi, a member of the Zimbabwe Political Prisoners Detainees and Restrictees Association (ZIPPEDRA), to weave a narrative about his supposed contributions during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
Mnangagwa’s involvement in the liberation war has always been shrouded in mystery, with many questioning the authenticity of his claims.
On Friday, while offering condolences for the late Masawi, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 86, Mnangagwa once again attempted to portray himself as a key figure in the fight for independence.
Masawi, at the time of his death, was the chairman of the Tangwena Zanu PF District in Mazowe West Constituency.
However, Mnangagwa’s condolence message seemed to focus more on his own exploits than on the life and contributions of Masawi.
Below is Mnangagwa’s statement, wherein he appears to inflate his role in the liberation struggle: “Following the blowing up of a steam locomotive outside Fort Victoria (now Masvingo) in 1964 by the Crocodile Gang, a ZANLA Guerilla Unit I led, Colonial Administration Forces went on a manhunt against members of the group. I escaped and went into hiding to stay at the late Michael Mawema’s house in Highfield and it is at this house that I first met Cde Silas Masawi in 1964. Cde Silas Masawi, already active in the underground movement of ZANU, was a dependable and committed cadre in the liberation of this country. I stayed with Cde Masawi under one roof until I was betrayed and arrested in 1965,” President Mnangagwa said in his condolence message. He continued, recounting Masawi’s arrest in 1967 and subsequent release after three months, followed by a conviction in 1973 under the Law and Order Maintenance Act (LOMA), which led to an 11-year imprisonment. Mnangagwa detailed Masawi’s hardships, including the loss of sight in his left eye and hearing in his left ear due to torture, and noted Masawi’s release in 1980, shortly before Zimbabwe’s independence. Mnangagwa also highlighted a 2021 visit from Masawi to State House, where the two reminisced about their past. He spoke of Masawi’s efforts to revive the Nyachuru chieftainship, which had been abolished by the colonial administration in 1896, and how he had honored Masawi’s request to restore it, naming him as the rightful heir. “On behalf of Zanu PF, Government and on my own behalf I express my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Masawi family upon the loss of a dear husband, loving father and grandfather. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Mnangagwa concluded.
While Mnangagwa’s statement paints him as a central figure in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, many remain sceptical about the accuracy of his recollections and his actual contributions during that pivotal period in the country’s history.
By Political Reporter- Welshman Ncube has once again claimed that former Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa was responsible for destabilising the opposition.
Ncube told a Bulawayo-based radio station that Chamisa’s “strategic ambiguity” caused chaos and confusion that engulfed the party before and after last year’s general elections.
Ahead of the August 3, 2023 polls, CCC did not conduct primary elections to select candidates, instead employing a controversial system that sidelined several long-serving opposition activists in favour of newcomers.
Then, in the aftermath of the elections, party activist Sengezo Tshabangu seized control of the CCC, aided by state institutions, and embarked on a series of infamous recalls that ultimately gave ZANU-PF a majority in the National Assembly.
According to Ncube, Chamisa’s “strategic ambiguity” rendered everyone within the party as mere onlookers, except for Chamisa himself, who even went so far as to call himself the “change champion in chief.”
Ncube also claimed that Tshabangu was never elected as the interim secretary-general of the CCC, but rather took advantage of the “strategic confusion” within the party to unilaterally appoint himself to the position. Said Ncube said:
Over and above that, as we headed for the August 2023 elections, there was already serious confusion within the party as to who held what position and who did not hold any position.
This other day we will wake up having Advocate Fadzai Mahere as the spokesperson and the next day it will be Mr Promise Mkhwananzi, all this under the animal, which they called ‘strategic ambiguity’.
This is what caused all this confusion, which ended up giving birth to an interim secretary known as Tshabangu, people that we never elected to those positions as party members.
Ncube, who has positioned himself as the interim president of one of the rival factions within CCC, that his group is actively engaged in restructuring the party in preparation for an elective congress. He said:
After this critical exercise, we will then take the party back to the people for them to elect their leaders of choice andhopefully, those who will be elected won’t make the same fatal mistakes we did like allowing this strategic ambiguity animal, which devoured the party.
Nelson Chamisa resigned from the CCC party in January 2024, asserting that the party had been infiltrated and hijacked by ZANU PF through its embedded agents.
Spain kept themselves on course to win a fourth European Championship as Mikel Merino’s 119th-minute goal sent them into the semi-finals and eliminated hosts Germany following a pulsating encounter at Stuttgart Arena.
This was the most anticipated match of the tournament so far as it put together the resurgent home nation against arguably the best-performing side to date at Euro 2024 – and it certainly lived up to expectation.
Played with aggression, tension and drama the contest barely let those watching pause for breath from the moment Dani Olmo gave Spain the lead six minutes into the second half.
The substitute side-footed home a cross from 16-year-old star Lamine Yamal – his third assist of the Euros – and his strike opened up a game that had been played with caution until then.
Germany hit the post through their own substitute Niclas Fullkrug, but equalised in the final minute of normal time when Florian Wirtz sent a thunderous strike in off the post to send the home fans wild.
Mikel Oyarzabal and Wirtz then sent efforts agonisingly wide in extra time, Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon superbly clawed away a Fullkrug header while Germany had penalty appeals dismissed after the ball struck Marc Cucurella’s hand in the box.
But with seconds remaining of a thrilling tie, Real Sociedad forward Merino – who spent the 2017-18 season at Newcastle United – thumped home a header to send Spain into the semi-finals, where they will face France in Munich on Tuesday, 9 July.
