By Tinoonga Mawere Chiredzi| Barely two weeks after firing a salvo at First Lady Grace Mugabe, Minister of State For Masvingo Shuvai Mahofa has once again said Mrs Mugabe is too junior to replace her husband.
Speaking in Chiredzi at a Women’s League event last week Mahofa pulled another shocker when she said Grace would not replace her husband because she was too junior according to the Zanu PF constitution .
Mahofa herself who is yet to tackle the food crisis in the province once again tore into the hot succession debate and said Mrs Mugabe needs to be mentored for a long time first.
The veteran politician who recently said government had no capacity to combat hunger, said it was unheard of in the world for a First Lady to replace her husband .
“Only political green horns think that the First Lady wants to replace her husband .
Where in the world have you ever heard of a First Lady who replaced her husband ? Infact she has to be mentored by the two Vice Presidents ,”said Mahofa.
However Women’s League members who attended the event described Mahofa’s utterances as controversial and subtle. Zanu PF politicians are spending their energy on factional battles leaving the electorate in the cold. Senior party officials are reportedly committing resources towards the same although the treasury is literary dry -leaving Zimbabweans in abject poverty.
Having realised she had torched an inferno Mahofa reportedly tried to water down her remarks by claiming the Gamatox elements were working within Zanu PF to fan factional battles and the same elements were brewing the flaming heat in the ruling party. Mahofa has been accused of turning against her boss and observers say she could be putting her job on the line in the Grace Mugabe controlled Zanu PF.
