In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said in yesterday’s accidents, 42 people were also injured compared to 27 last year.
He said the police impounded 67 vehicles yesterday alone compared to 139 that were impounded on Boxing Day last year.
There were 5 838 arrests, 533 less than last year’s figure.
Chief Superintendent Nyathi urged motorists to observe speed limits and respect road regulations, adding that passengers should not be negligent when using roads as well.
