By Terrence Mawawa Masvingo|A Masvingo Polytechnic Student was on Wednesday grilled by suspected state security agents over a WhatsApp message on President Robert Mugabe’s reported collapse.
The Automotive Engineering student who identified himself as Trynos told ZimEye.com he was apprehended by two men while talking to a friend at Mutsetse Bar at Rujeko A Shopping Centre Wednesday. He said he had just shared the Mugabe heart attack story rumour with his friend when he was confonted by the two men who grilled him over the origins thereof.
“I was at Mutsetse Bar around 4pm when I shared the Mugabe heart attack article with my friend. Soon after showing him the message, two men called me outside and identified themselves as officers from the president’s office. They took my phone and demanded to know where I got the story from.
They quizzed me for 20 minutes and one of them slapped me and soon after took my details. They said they were watching me. They handed over my phone and disappeared. I am still confused and I wonder where they came from,” said the shocked student.
The Mugabe heart attack rumour has raised a lot of curiosity across the world and ZimEye can reveal intelligence officers were Wednesday to Thursday deployed to internet cafes in Masvingo to monitor communications.
