By Bret muVet|Former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was today seen marching in Harare in a visibly shrunken, frail body pacing while firmly guided by his young wife, during the $15bhidza protest march. – PICTURES
In order to win, you have to be very honest and be able to accept advice Analysisand adjust accordingly. However because of the big man mentality that seems to rule Zimbabwe Politics, a lot of people just don’t speak up and state the obvious and make adjustments so that the strategy can be adapted in order to win. While some of us are currently sitting in Mansions in Highlands, sipping imported whisky and toasting to a successful demo today, let me be the one to point out what really transpired.
The week before the 2013 elections, the same start venue was used as a rally venue where some estimated between 80000 and 120 000 people attended. In order to be fair, let us average that to 100000.
Today’s demo was named the MOAD- Mother Of All Demos- and everyone was invited even if you were not an MDC-T member or supporter. The Demo was advertised a few weeks before the date, postponed and then moved forward. A lot of time to prepare. A very strong drive for Ecocash donations was launched to provide transport for those out of town.
Having all these items in place we can estimate that there might have been 12 000 people at the rally. Lets assume that 20% of those were people from other parties, perhaps interested NGOs and Civic Society. That means from a number of 100 000 the MDC-T has managed to bring in less than 10 000 supporters to its Mother Of All Rallies. In a country where unemployment is at 90% and people didn’t have to ask for leave from work to attend, In a country where the majority of the population reside in Harare or just outside, this is indeed a worrying number.
Yes we know that in between elections, crowds are hard to come by; Transport is tough to get, people are tired. Yes it is indeed better than nothing, but The MDCT must not ignore the obvious.

They have lost almost 1000% in support. For people like me who are not mathematically gifted, that means in 2013 when there was 10 people at that rally, today there was 1 person.
Where are the other 9?
Stop celebrating as if you have won the election already. Stop telling MT that…. “2018 tinopinda chete”…. “2018 Hazvikone”……. “Save anevanhu
zveshuwa”…..   “NaSave tinosvika”….
STOP IT!! I know you are all scared to speak openly, we did and we were booted out, but someone somewhere needs to tell the man that the party is in a crisis. It will be a miracle indeed if the MDCT get the same 34.94% they got in 2013. If they continue on this course, patting themselves on the back for what is in fact a failure and giant step backwards, they will be shocked in 2018. Add to that the lack of electoral reforms, the 2 senior people who split from the party, and the former deputy president now heading up yet another opposition party, Guys, lets be realistic and say if MDCT get 20% that would be a good result for them.
An army of Lions led by a sheep will still be limited by that sheep.
Please maCadre, Someone, Somewhere, Somehow, get to MT and tell him the reality on the ground so that changes can be made before its too late. The kitchen cabinet is hiding the truth. Fortunately today the truth could not
be hidden.

  5. Urikunyepa there is nothing like 1000%. Percent is out of 100, mening the maximum you can go i s 100 out of 100 to get 100%. Can yo explain 1000%

  7. Practically you do not lose 1000% of support. The reason is simple mathematically. If you have 20 people and you lose 20, that 100% lost, losing 1000% means you are losing what was not yours.Dont think too much you wilI end up being ZANU.It is only positive support which can balloom to even 200000%, because the people can increase on your support beyond an unset number.Going backwards, 20 is the defacto 100%.So don’t waffle telling people 1000%.This shows the uneducated educated Zimbabweans.

  9. Mr. Editor excuse us ! You are so full of negativity. We thought you would focus on Mr. T’s health and back up your story with factual evidence. Yet you end up touching on other more negative issues. I am sure you have serious problems with Tsvangirai. You also expose your stupidity & ignorance regarding statistics. You’re a total ignoramus on this subject. His marriage to a younger wife or his life with other women is his own choice. It does not affect us in or march to freedom against the dictator. You are well aware of the social & economic environment prevailing in Zimbabwe (unless you are writing from the Antactica) – it is very difficult for people to find even 5 rand to go into the city centre. The cost s just prohibitive. The situation is very different from the period around 1999 when people could afford to travel cheaply. If you are in Zimbabwe – I challenge you to invite your own relatives for lunch – to prove my assertions.

  11. I think people need to be real. People were afraid of police brutality. Now that the demonstration went out peacefully, you will were the whole Harare demonstrating next time. Its not about Morgan tsvangirai but about food in country, people are starving because of a ruling party that lost the elections.

  13. This Brett Muvet is confusing a party rally around election time and a demonstration against Dzasukwa misrule.

  15. And you figured all this out on one rally/demonstration. People used to call him Chematama when he was rather overweight. May be the guy has decided to lose weight and all the rumours start flying.
I personally went through this. My BMI was not the best and a doctor advised me to eat healthy, exercise and I lost some 20 kgs. Having nightmare with the wardrobe. People started saying I was HIV positive but that was not true

  17. 1000% exists there is nothing wrong with that mathematic expression. When dealing with numbers you can go below zero that is into the negative figures. The argument here is that Tsvangirai is a spent force which like Mugabe has become a stumbling block. He now represents all the negative things he became famous for fighting against such as staying in a leadership positions for too long, lack of tolerance criticism and extending his terms without elections . Also to mention his controversial marriage to a much younger woman who is hardly first lady material. In short he needs to step down and allow the MDC to elect a new leader.

  19. Another truth is that Hapana atinhwa kuenda kuDEMO. Those who participated didn’t go because of free food and farming inputs. They new kuti kwange kusina sadza. The other truth is that those you claim not to belong to MDC went because they agree with the ideology being fronted by MDC. The Mugabe must go ideology.

  21. Truth is his stats may be wrong. But truth is 1. Morgan has shrunk and llooks not well.
    2. Mdct support is down

  23. Please editor, do not allow certain shallow arguments here. If you lose 100 %, you have nothing. There is nothing like losing 1000%.The writer was heavily intoxicated with Mexican cocaine. You can not erase the message put across by the people. If you say unemployment is 90%, then how do you expect the people to go to the rally when transport is paid?, If you are not scared then you must also ask where is the money. When a revolution occurs, some are anti-freedom. and these are people like you. There is no link between Morgan’s health and your bush mathematics of percentages. If you sing for your supper, do so in a better wiser way. Prophets of doom were saying there will be no one at the march. Now the march attracted thousands, without being driven the ZANU way, you say the number is small. God will forever have on his people like you.By the way what is you position on the missing money?
