By Farai D Hove| MDC Deputy President and self appointed Acting President, Thokozani Khupe has been dumped by the party’s powerful UK and Ireland province.

The MDC UK and Ireland Province is the party’s key source of finances.

Previously the chairman Tonderai Samanyanga was a Khupe backer. But he has since taken a twist now recognising Nelson Chamisa’s leadership.

Below was a transcript of the statement –

FULL TEXT: It has taken considerable time to consult and bring the divergences of views in the Province following the various decisions of the National Council that came after the sad passing away of our great leader Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai. The MDC-T UK & Ireland Province would like to confirm its commitment play an important part in the democratisation of Zimbabwe. We understand our strategic position as a key external Province of the party and we will continue to stand with our leadership and remain focus on the objective of the party.

The Province welcomes the decisive decision by the National Council of the party to confirm Advocate Nelson Chamisa as the party President till next Congress, as we’ll as the Alliance President for the forthcoming elections. We join the party Leadership and the rest of the party membership In this direction which we confidently believe will lead us to winning the 2018 election. A luta continua ate a vitoria final.

The Province would like to make it crystal clear that it remains guided by the decisions of the National Council of the party and will continue to use this official channel to advance any concerns from our membership without bringing a discord to into the party. We remain resolute in playing our important role on resource mobilisation, to ensure the election program is well resourced for this important period. The Province is however concerned about the continued disagreement amongst our national leadership and notes the importance of reaching out to our Deputy President and team, in building a united force in this important election. We encourage President Chamisa to effectively engage Deputy President, Dr. Thokozai Khupe in order to ensure the party remains united as we face a fractured Zanu PF in this watershed election. In the same vain, the Province also wish to encourage our Deputy President, Dr Thokozani Khupe and team to see sense, to be able to read Into the current wave and accept that we need each other to reach our destiny. The people of Zimbabwe are waiting upon us to lead exemplary, in a direction that will deliver in this election regardless of the divergence of our views.

This direction we are on for the 2018 elections with the MDC Alliance has energised the masses of Zimbabwe and if a little effort is put in the management of the diverging views, victory is certain. Let us talk unity, let us share unity, let us sing unity, let us organise unity, let us work for unity and deliver our mandate for the people of Zimbabwe.
