By Own Correspondent| The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has revealed that contrary to an earlier figure released yesterday (Monday), the number of accredited foreign observers is 170.

Said the ZEC’s Public Relations Director Justin Manyau in a statement issued today:

“Statistics on accredited foreign observers

Please note that the number of accredited foreign observers as at 7 July 2018 was 170, and not 15 as indicated in the ZEC Chairperson’s brief yesterday. This was due to a typographical error.

These foreign observers for the 2018 Harmonised Elections were broken down as follows:
 Foreign journalists 27
 Foreign Observers 143.”

In her press briefing yesterday, ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba told journalists that the number of foreign observers was 15.

She however told journalists that correct statistics would be issued in due course in order to avoid speculation that she is “dishonest”.
