Own Correspondent|President Emerson Mnangagwa says the renewal of sanctions by the United States and European Union will not deter the country’s push towards resuscitating the country’s economy.

Speaking at the burial of national hero Emilio Munemo on Saturday, Mnangagwa said the sanctions were a violation of Zimbabweans’ basic human rights and should therefore be removed unconditionally.

Brigadier General Munemo (64) passed on last week after a short illness.

“We call for removal of sanctions that continue to violate human rights to our people. As it was during the struggle, discouragements and misfortunes will be there, let us not be deterred,” Mnangagwa said.

“Our economic and political reforms will move on. Zimbabwe is a train on the move (and) you either board it or you will be left behind, backwards never, victory is certain, our prosperity is certain,” he said.

The President said the engagement and re engagement will continue with those opening doors to the country.

Mnangagwa described the late Munemo as a dedicated cadre and a researcher par excellence.
