Own Correspondent|The African Union has announced it will honor Zambia’s former President Kenneth Kaunda and his significant support in a fight for independent Africa, the organisation’s representatives said in a statement on Thursday.

This comes after the Zambian authorities emphasised the fact that 95-year-old Kaunda was the only African leader, whose contribution to the liberation of the continent had not been recognized by the AU.

In response to these claims, the AU stated that the Zambian ex-president’s role was never in dispute.

According to AU Commission Chairperson Mousa Faki Mahamat, it won’t be the last initiative implemented in Kaunda’s honour and the Union will continue these practices in the future.
