Zanu PF Matabeleland North Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) has nominated Mbongeni Dube as their candidate for the forthcoming Lupane East constituency by-elections slated for the 3rd of August.

Dube was nominated by the province amid revelations that Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube was being pushed by the party head office to contest the seat. Mthuli Ncube though reported to have declined the offer was strongly being pushed for the seat.

The party has called for unity and teamwork towards retaining the seat which fell vacant following the death of Sithembile Gumbo.

The PCC meeting was held ahead of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) nomination court set for Friday the 14th of June.

Matabeleland North Minister of State, Richard Moyo thanked the members of the party for being well organised and urged them to unite in ensuring that the party retains Lupane East seat.

“The meeting went on smoothly and we are proud of the province for demonstrating unity of purpose and we are confident that we will be able to retain the seat,” he said.

Following the proclamation of the bye-election date, ZEC is currently conducting voter education for pre-nomination court.
