Zimbabwean born but South African based business tycoon Sam Mshengu Chabalala says his arrest was an act of jealousy.
Chabalala (23) poured his heart out on Instagram on Saturday, thanking his supporters for being by his side while in custody and during his bail application.
“A lot of people that I thought were my friends never pitched up, but I don’t blame them as they say when days are dark, friends are few,” he said. He warned his fans not to post their achievements on social media as it attracted enemies.
Chabalala also paid tribute to his general manager, Nkosinathi Ngcobo (30), who was shot while at Sam Holdings truck depot in Bethal on 12 September.
A 26-year-old man believed to be one of the hitmen has since been arrested. Chabalala made headlines when he led a convoy of 72 luxurious cars to the Durban July.
He’s facing charges of corruption, fraud, contravention of the Immigration Act and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear in court again on 22 November. He’s out on R200 000 bail.
