Sowetan|The embattled Stevens Mokgalapa on Friday made a dramatic return as the mayor of Tshwane.
This after dismissal was suspended by the North Gauteng high court in Pretoria on .
Mokgalapa and council speaker Katlego Mathebe were on Thursday booted out office through a vote of no confidence.
Making the ruling, Pretoria high court judge J Tuchten said: “Having read and considered the documents filed of record and having heard counsel an order is granted in the following terms:
“The applications will be postponed and heard in urgent court on 17 December.
“Pending the finalisation of these applications all resolutions passed by the Tshwane Council on 5 December at its special council meeting and its continuation meeting are suspended and of no effect…” said Tuchten.
He was referring to the appointment of an acting speaker, the passing of a motion of no confidence in the speaker and removing her from office, and the passing of a motion of no confidence in the mayor and removing the mayor from office.”
The costs have been reversed.
