By A Correspondent- Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters Julius Malema has added his voice in the ongoing anti-corruption campaign in Zimbabwe that has seen government officials exposed over looting COVID-19 funds.

He speaks when calls for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to relieve the Health Minister, Obadiah Moyo of his duties over poor management of COVID-19 relief funds have intensified lately after it has emerged that the Ministry purchased personal protective equipment at exorbitant prices.

The campaign is being championed by a number of people including Alex Tawanda Magaisa, the former Chief of Staff in the office of the late former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai and award-winning journalist and filmmaker Hopewell Chin’ono.

Posting on Twitter, Malema said:

We applaud the fight against corruption and looting of public funds going on in Zimbabwe. It is cruel and evil for anyone regardless of who they are to steal money meant to help citizens fight Covid-19. There is nothing revolutionary or patriotic about thieving. Pasi neMbavha! (Down with Thieves!).

Zimbabwe has reportedly lost millions of dollars since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic with government officials named among the culprits.

This comes when the Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube has applied for financial assistance at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) observing that the country’s economy will totally crumble if the World body does not provide the funds.

The Southern African country is ranked among the worst corrupt countries in the world and the rot has affected economic growth leaving the masses in abject poverty for decades.
